For the time being, it appeared as if all questions concerning the evolution of ascendants and the sustainment of their form had been answered. The ultimate truth was that digital life was simply too diverse and admittedly incredible to be filed into a few categories with simple explanations. The doctor was of course right with this conclusion, and his evidence for that was irrefutable. Size was in no way equivalent to might and potential - Cion was the living proof for that. Nonetheless, this meeting was not meant to be filled with such discussions. Joint bliss seemed infinitely preferable to her, which was a sentiment that was quickly agreed upon.
Returning the quick hug by hastily nuzzling her darling's cheek, the silver fennec sat down alongside the wonderful members of this house's family. Remaining composed and quiet, she observed them as formalities were officially dismissed - a notion she appreciated. There truly was no need to behave as if attending a court, especially with so many jolly and benign people around her. Nevertheless, she was crossing her petite fingers in the hope that the dish she had assisted in creating was to everyone's liking. Fortunately, this appeared to be the case.
With a hushed sigh of relief, the unassuming fox too claimed appropriate cutlery for herself and started to dine with manners that remained becoming for someone who carried herself with the grace of a lady. It was how she was and the way she wanted to be, and the idea of pretending something else did not even enter her mind. And as she evaluated the taste of her produce, seeing as the tongues of others came into view, she chuckled and nodded contentedly. Considering the spontaneity of their cooking the result was indeed serviceable.
"I suppose I was mindful." She responded modestly to Mikemon in appreciation of his implicit compliment, yet not wishing to affront Syre who was currently so marvelously sunshiny. This was precisely what she wished for her to always be, and to witness it filled her with seldom felt glee. More than that, to at last experience the serenity of a family again, though it was not her own, was... indescribable. It was without doubt were their hearts lied, and hers yearned for a similar fortune. Briefly glancing at the caring felidae, thoughts of their possible tomorrow began keeping hold of her. Just maybe...
"I'm glad." Cion commented, her tone dreamy and gentle. For those present, it was possible that they understood it as a statement of personal satisfaction. After all, everybody enjoyed the meal for a variety of reasons. And although this played a role, it was not the crux of her words. No - she was glad to have this chance, and a reason to smile.
It was strange however that both made her core beat rapidly, and her breath dry and shallow.

The interesting-but-personal discussion about Cion's own level was put off to the side. To be honest, between Mikemon's academic mind and Holly's boundless curiosity, such a conversation could have lasted for hours - but, at a certain point, it would have have probably dragged on the patience of even their accommodating guest.
Instead, it was much better for the lot of them to just live in the current moment, and enjoy a nice hot, homely, casual meal between the lot of them. Syre didn't mind the jokes at her expense, though Holly's comment earned a short, playful glare from the black cat. Really, it was just a nice, enjoyable meal with the lot of them, and a rare time for all of them to catch up with each-other. With the 'age' of this family, nothing about the entire experience made it feel like a formal gathering.
They were family - but more than that, it felt like a happy, close-knit group of friends, taking the rare chance to spend time together as a group. And Cion and Syre's curry helped facilitate that. Though as it wound up, and as Mikemon started to pull back his chair, Syre found herself rolling her eyes.
"Oh, c'mon - your office work can wait another ten minutes. Did you forget?"
"Um... oh - oh, right, the pie!" Mikemon put a hand to his head, as Syre gave a laugh, nodding to Holly to get that nice, warm pie over to the table. There might have been leftovers with the curry, but with five hungry 'mons staring down the pastry?
Probably not a chance with this one!

It wasn’t so much she was done with her questioning as she was trying to figure out what questions to ask next when they had the time. There were so many things she’d want to address but right now there were more pressing manners. Like what they were about to eat! Holly leaned on the table, almost gushing at the food that was in front of her. She had a huge appetite given her typing and with the fact she was still growing wouldn’t help!
”I remember the first time syre made me something; I was really happy that she was cooking for me because at the time da and ma were busy. So she thought it be a good idea to try it herself! Suffice to say the amount of milk and water i had to drink to make my tongue stop burning musta been a few gallons at least!”
Holly let out a small chuckle; grinning ear to ear. Maybe a few gallons was an exaggeration but she remembered that day quite fondly! Even if it was before… well all that wisemon nonsense that her mother had gone through. She’d shift in her seat rather happily and she’d turn her head to her sister that grin growing a little bit more. She’d offer a playful wink to her sister; they both knew she meant nothing by it!
Holly perked up when asked to get the pie, hopping off of her chair. While silence on the other hand wasn’t entirely done herself. Enjoying the last few spoonfuls; she hadn’t expected the pie to be done so close to the end of dinner. Maybe she had just lost track of time?
”Oh this is gonna be good~”
Holly was pretty quick to get the pie out of the oven; placing it down on the table with some mitts. She’d provide a knife to cut it with and would divey it up between the five of them; her grin hadn’t vanished and once she was sitting down again she’d take a test bite…
”Maybe next time we should make two pies…”
”Or maybe a tray of brownies?”
Holly perked up at that suggestion from the wolf and silence couldn’t help but grin. Given how things were it was easier for her to eat the pie with a hand or something but the fact she was going out of her way to use a fork… Well she wanted to enjoy this!

Often, it was difficult for introspective people to relinquish their inner world to instead appreciate and enjoy the one on the outside. Over the recent years, Cion had undoubtedly become such a person, especially since she was someone who was almost always mindful and prudent. Did she consider it a taint that she wished to cast aside? Admittedly, she was not sure. It was a vital aspect during dire straits, but it made savoring the present an effort. After all, she spend too much of her attention on her feelings - both positive and negative.
Everything had to make sense in her atypically petite head, and nothing was permitted to be out of order. Every tiny facet simply had to be processed and comprehended by her. Why? To be in control of course. The sentiment of failure was well-nigh impossible for her to deal with, yet it was this grimness which likely did not allow her to be content in the first place. Unfortunately, it gnawed at her even during this wonderful hour of family and glee. However, it was not the fear of disappointing Syre's kin, but the memories of a bygone life that impeded her. To be among dearly beloved... she envied this fortune.
But why then was she acting in such an asinine way? This was her golden opportunity to change and improve her lot, so why exactly was she wasting it with thoughts and internal monologues? Not only was she in the presence of her sweetheart, but also cherished friends and acquaintances that were her parents and siblings. What better chance did she have to relish the boons of family than today? And who knew! With the way their bond was growing, perhaps she could earn herself their approval! Yeah! She merely had to be proactive.
The silver fennec already had scored plenty of points with her culinary skills, and the stupendous apple pie gave her additional time to contemplate how to proceed. But first, compliments were due. "A simple yet excellent harmony of crisply hearty cake and sweet-and-sour apples. I hope you do not mind me remembering the recipe... and the idea of a tray of brownies." She credited the feline siblings with a confident smile and slight jest in her voice. Was she overdoing it? Absolutely! But that was just an idiosyncrasy of hers. Oh, and if only there were drinking glasses present to raise them in a heartfelt toast. Hmm... maybe later.

"Oh, quite exaggerating, you lightweight."
Yup, it didn't take much for Syre to match her sister's level of snark, a chuckling smirk appearing at the edge of her lip. The two were sisters, after all, and what would that be without being able to take free 'shots' at each-other every once in a while? Truthfully, Syre did actually cut back on the spice after that incident, taking quite a few lessons from K's cookbook on the long run.
That delightful dinner would be followed by a delicious, filling desert, but as expected, there were no leftovers of that pastry by the end of it, and all the plates would be near spotless at the end. Taking another bite of the pie, Syre's ear flicked a bit at Cion's comment, remarking on their choice of apples. The cat blinked, and managed to stifle a small chuckle as she swallowed her bite. The cat didn't mind Cion's compliment, but she did nod to the nearest, frosted window.
"Mm... there's a reason we make curry and stew a lot up here, hun. Modern as this place is, its stupid cold and hard to get a lot of the more 'fragile' food up into town. I could hardly tell you what kind of apples went into the pie, because its a treat for us to even have fresh apples up here at all."
Blunt, yes, but Syre didn't lose her smile throughout that whole explanation! "Its not all bad, though: nice, open air allows us to get a lot of smoke going, so we get some of the most delicious slow-cooked meat up here if we want. And as much as I'd like this place being a bit warmer, well, I gotta say that I'll miss the aurora season when we settle in lower ground."
"You're speakin' like this place is still not gonna be open to ya, kitten." Mikemon chuckled, ruffling the top of Syre's head as he walked past with his empty plate, towards the sink. "Holly's got her own place too, and yet she spends a good amount of time around here. Its like she can't stand to be rid of us."
"D-don't tease, dad." Syre sighed, shaking her head, smiling as she looked over to Cion. "Heh, but its true. And looks like we'll have the door open to one more..."
