Mandrake stood not far from a safe filled with bits he had promised to guard. A Sunflowmon was distressed about a thief that struck almost every place on that street. These burglaries had the Town Security in a frenzy and were taking help from anyone that would volunteer. It seemed that no one knew much about the robberies except that the unknown thief struck only at night and was able to steal large amounts of loot before disappearing into the shadows.
'Maybe this thief uses magic to not only enter undetected but escape undetected as well. If that's the case two can play at that game.' Mandrake thought as he walked around the room he was guarding. There was only one way in being a door and a couple of hiding places for Mandrake to take cover in so he could get the drop on the thief.
Ducking out of sight behind a pillar that was curiously in the room he channeled his magic and used his 'Hypnotic Illusion' to put the illusion of a cloth covered oak table over the small safe effectively disguising the it. The cloth of the illusion touched the floor and was white. Now that the safe was temporarily out of sight it was time to wait for the thief.
Hours passed since the sun went down and it soon would be midnight. The room he was only lit by a few small lamps barely casting light in the room but the darkness didn't bother Mandrake in the slightest. Soon two small flames, one red and the other blue, floated into the room before zipping back and forth taking on the shape of two tiny ghosts. Mandrake's blue eyes watched the flames as they flew around as if trying to scare any potential guards away.
'I was right, these flames are nothing but illusions which only means the thief is nearby.' Mandrake thought as the blue and red ghost shaped flames vanished into thin air. Soon a figure entered the room and as it passed one of the lights a familiar form appeared. It looked to be an Impmon, like Mandrake, but had certain features that made its identity obvious. 'So it seems the thief was an Impmon X all along. That explains the possible magical connection.' Mandrake thought as he watched the Impmon X. One red eye, the other covered by an eye patch, glanced around the room in confusion.
"Where is the safe?" it growled before it continued "I snuck into this place last night to scout for potential loot. Safes are heavy and cannot get up and walk away." The Impmon X glared around the room spotting Mandrake's illusion. "What is with that table? That wasn't there before. Unless..." Mandrake began to make a move toward the Impmon X as the thief launched a blue fireball at the illusion causing it to fade. "So a mere illusion was disguising the safe but where is the caster? If this illusion was here that means the one responsible is still near and was not frightened away by my illusion."
"How very perceptive of you, Impmon X!" Mandrake exclaimed causing Impmon X to turn around spotting a blue eyed Impmon standing behind it. "As long as I'm here you won't be making off with the money in the safe."
A cruel grin spread across the Impmon X's face and its red eye glowed before it asked "Oh and what are you gonna do? I've outwitted city security for quite a few months so what chance to you have to stop me?"
"I'll do what I can to stop you and since we are both rookies the fight is pretty much even." Mandrake said as he waved his hands before a magical scythe appeared "Storm Scythe!"
Impmon X snickered "What's that? Another illusion? You think that alone can scare me? Time to fry. Night of Fire!" Dark flames flew at Mandrake at high speed. Mandrake then used his telekinesis to make his scythe float in mid air and spin before he shot it at Impmon X's flames. The speed combined with the spinning broke up the dark flames only resulting in Mandrake's scythe vanishing. Impmon X stared in shock at the inventiveness of Mandrake, not to mention the blue eyed Impmon's telekinesis. "Telekinesis? That's one trick I never picked up."
"Now. Now. One does not just pick up such a gift. One is generally born with telekinetic abilities and it seems, judging by your surprise, that you were not so fortunate."
"I don't need telekinesis to one up you. I'll show you!" Impmon X growled and its hands, one hand glowing blue and the other glowing red, it then shouted "Take this! Summon!" From the ground emerged a fire and an ice elemental before they flew at Mandrake.
Thinking quickly Mandrake waved his hands and said "Hypnotic Illusion!" What looked like the safe from the room was now floating in front of Impmon X causing it to dissipate its attack.
Too perplexed to talk the Impmon X stared at Mandrake's illusion in disbelief before turning where the safe used to be from its knowledge. Before it realized that the floating safe was only an illusion, Mandrake grabbed Impmon X's arm. Glaring in rage at Mandrake its hand became alive with flame. "If you don't release me you'll regret it! Night of Fire!" Mandrake let go of Impmon X yelping in pain as the flames burnt his flesh. Taking advantage of Mandrake's pain Impmon X kicked the blue eyed Impmon to the ground.
Mandrake hit the ground with a pained groaned landing on his stomach. With a cruel glint in its red eye, the Impmon X moved closer to Mandrake its hand alive with fire once again. Meanwhile, with a pained grunt, Mandrake managed to push himself to his knees. He waved his hand and generated a flame in his palm. Glancing into Impmon X's red eye he said "I'm not done yet, Impmon X. Badda-Boom!" With that a red flame flew out at Impmon X, giving the X-antibody carrier a taste of his own medicine one could say. Impmon X howled in pain and crumpled to the ground.
Just then City Security had shown up after apparently being called by Sunflowmon and hauled Impmon X away. Shortly after that medics were called to tend to Mandrake's burns. Despite the burns he suffered he had succeeded in stopping the thief and after he healed he would start traveling again.
