Mandrake had just gotten out of the hospital after the burns he suffered from his battle with Impmon X the previous night. Though the healing techniques used on him took care of the worst of the burns they apparently weren't able to deal with them completely. His back was still sensitive and he had a few bald patches in his purple fur where it was painfully burned off but those bald spots would grow back in time. The burns on his back had another unpleasant side effect where if he stepped wrong or even bent the wrong way, a shooting pain shot through his body causing him to flinch and stop until the pain faded.
Because of his issues, he was moving slowly and stiffly along. Though it was a nice day, Mandrake found it hard to enjoy it and hoped he wouldn't come across any problems as he didn't feel up to dealing with them. Heck, he didn't feel like doing much other than walking around Rosewood. The digmon in town only briefly glanced at him but other than that ignored the blue eyed Impmon while tending to their own business.

The foiled burglary the other night hadn't gone unnoticed. There was mention in Rosewood's morning news that a would-be thief had been apprehended, and the story embellished on a fight between two impmons. Well, to be fair Des hadn't seen the commotion herself so she couldn't tell if the news was hyping the win to save face for the town's law enforcement. In any case, watching the blue-eyed impmon limp around the streets did make her curious. The tsukaimon silently observed from a nearby rooftop as the impmon would stop every now and then due to physical pain. Even from her perch she could see the bald spots in the other digimon's fur, presumably where it had been burned off.
Spreading her wings she leapt off of her vantage point and glided towards the impmon.
"You should take it easy; you look pretty banged up," called out the tsukaimon as the distance closed between them. She stopped several feet away from the impmon using her wings to hover in the air. Curious eyes looked the stranger over. "What happened to you, anyways? You wouldn't happen to have been involved with that attempted robbery, hm?"

Mandrake felt a presence with his telepathic abilities though he had no idea of the strangers intentions. Though he could tap into the oncoming stranger's mind, he didn't believe he could concentrate in his condition anyway so he hoped the stranger meant no harm. Soon a Tsukaimon floated in front of him and he took in her appearance. Though he summoned his scythe magically it was smaller than it normally was but just tall enough for him to lean on. It seemed to take some pain and pressure off him making him wonder why he didn't think of this solution sooner.
"I assure you that aside from some healing burns, I am fine." Then the stranger asked about the robbery from last night. "Regarding the robbery, yes I was involved but I was protecting a safe full bits so the money wouldn't be stolen. An Impmon X was the thief though I find it strange it wasn't mentioned in the newspaper I read shortly before I was released from the hospital this morning."

A surprised look crossed over Des' face when the scythe appeared out of no where. The tsukaimon darted backwards in the air at first, but then floated forward again once the impmon leaned against the weapon for aid.
"I see," replied Des, silently doubting that the impmon was as well as he was suggesting. However, she listened to him talk without any further interruptions. When he was done she lowered herself to the ground to stand on her hind legs. She looked up at the impmon with a sly smile. "Well as always, the devil is in the details, right? I guess the writer thought there'd be more hype if they left some details out. Would've made for a riveting story if you two were family, but still, you did a good job!" The tsukaimon waddled closer several steps to get a better look at the impmon's burns. She hummed softly to herself.
"Was it worth it, you think? Getting involved and getting burned, I mean?" She looked back up to the impmon and tilted her head to the side. "I know Rosewood was asking for help and all, but they could have at least given you something to put on your burns."

Something about that sly smile could be interpreted in more than one way from slightly amused to malicious intent and since Mandrake didn't know what the Tsukaimon's intent was he decided to keep a wary eye on her. That, however, didn't stop him from being polite. "I assure you that Impmon X was no relative of mine. As far as I know I have no living family."
He watched the Tsukaimon's body language as it seemed apparent that the stranger was trying to figure out what to make of him just as he was trying to do the same. "Was it worth getting a criminal that could have easily become more dangerously violent off the streets? I think so. As for the burns they were much worse than what they are now and if not for the hospital's medical staff and their healing techniques, I wouldn't be up and about at all."

"Mm, I can sympathize with the 'no living family' part. Must make doing heroics like last night easier, though? Altruism is one of the best cures for loneliness." She paused to rub her chin thoughtfully as she digested the rest of his reply, responding shortly after a few seconds had passed. "I guess that makes sense, sure. Who knows what that Impmon X would have done if his crimes continued? He was more than willing to hurt you for interfering."
The tsukaimon's expression perked up as if she remembered something.
"Oh! I didn't mean to pry so much without introducing myself! I'm Desdemona! You can call me Des, though." The bean shaped digimon nodded a greeting with a smile. "I'm not from Rosewood, so my curiosity got the best of me. It's not everyday you get to meet a real life hero." She pointed a claw over her shoulder, gesturing vaguely down the road.
"Let me treat you to a cold drink in celebration! No liquors, though! I don't make that much bits myself," she teased playfully with an innocent wink.

It was true Mandrake was lonely but not because of his lack of family. With any luck he would find his friend soon. Meanwhile Mandrake said "It is also possible the illusion I used to hide the safe might have angered him more. I should have been more careful when the fight began but brawling is hardly my style of handling things."
The Tsukaimon than introduced herself and Mandrake replied "A pleasure to meet you, Des, my name is Mandrake. I'm a traveling magician so I'm not from Rosewood either." He watched the direction Des pointed in and then, after seeing her innocent wink, replied "A cold drink doesn't sound like a bad idea as I don't have much in the way of bits myself." Though it was true he was working these jobs to make a bit of money he didn't need to tell a seemingly mischievous stranger everything, after all.

Des seemed pleased when her offer was accepted. She eagerly waved the impmon onward as she remained on the ground herself. In the state Mandrake was in even she could keep up with his walking pace, but she made no further mention of his injuries as she walked beside him.
"There's a small cafe down the street that we can sit inside. They got plenty of things that might be refreshing for you right now." She paused to count on the three claws of one hand as she lifted off drinks, but was quickly forced to utilize her second hand for the task as well. "Iced water, iced coffee, iced tea, fruit juice, they even have soda if you like the bubbly stuff." The tsukaimon glanced back up at Mandrake.
"Wow, though... 'Mandrake the magician.' That's got a nice ring to it. Do you think after you've gotten all better that you could teach someone like me some of your magic? I already know one trick."
With that being said Des clapped her tiny hands together and vanished. Immediately she reappeared ten feet away down the road with her hands on her hips.
"See? That's pretty good, right?"

Fortunately the walk to the wasn't far since Mandrake was more than willing to sit down for awhile. As he moved slowly along, Des having no trouble walking alongside him. Usually for a Tsukaimon to keep up with him they would have to fly. Having short legs tended to make walking fast tricky at times, heck so did no legs. After spending his fresh and in-training stages as a paint spitter with no legs, he was glad for the long legs he had as an Impmon. That and the greater connection to magical power that wasn't uncommon for Impmon anyway.
Watching as Des tried to figure out how to carry three drinks, Mandrake said "Allow me, ma'am." He then lifted one hand and used his telekinetic abilities to lift an iced tea into his hand. "At this point I am but a humble illusionist." He said as he watched Des teleport and then said "Though obviously I plan on picking up other tricks over time. Possibly even teleportation like you have."

She seemed pleased with his reaction to her teleport, although in truth the range she could do it at right now wasn't very helpful for much. She was as amused with the impmon's display of power as well. Still holding a bottle of water and a can of iced coffee she waddled back over to their seats and jumped up onto her chair, placing the drinks down next to herself.
"No need to be so modest, Mandrake. Learning tricks like ours isn't very easy. Controlling them? Even harder." She took a moment to pop open the tab of the iced coffee can and took a quick sip before glancing back at the impmon. Her voice lowered as she put on a curious expression. "Is that why you're here in Rosewood? To find some long lost secret or something? Sorry if I'm prying, but it just seemed strange to find a magician like yourself here in such a simple town."
Then again, she herself was a teleporting tsukaimon, and probably just as strange to see here. Her small wings tucked themselves in as she spoke up again.
"If you don't mind the extra company, I could tag along with you while you're here in Rosewood? Help you with anymore baddies while you heal up! Us magic users hafta stick together, right?"

Mandrake sat down at the table with Des and sat down with a brief hiss of pain before he made his scythe vanish, it being magical in nature. He was glad digimon healed faster than humans because suffering as long as a human would was not a pleasant thought. Taking a sip of tea he felt a little soothed by the cool liquid. What were the odds of locating another traveling magician in a place like Rosewood. For all he knew such a thing could have been fairly common.
"It is true that magic takes time to master, Des. However I'm not in Rosewood for a long lost secret. Just here to earn bits so I can continue looking for a friend of mine that I haven't seen since we were both in-training digimon. He most likely has digivolved by now since we are close to the same age. Meaning I'm facing a tough quest indeed."
When Des mentioned keeping him company while he recovered, he had to admit the idea had merit. So far she hadn't proven herself to be a cruel digimon and he didn't think he had the strength to use his telepathy. Using his telekinesis had been rough enough but he managed to hide it well. "I don't see any harm in spending more time in your company. Sure beats being vulnerable and alone."

She sipped at her drink as he explained why he was in town. His reason was simple, but unexpected. This was not the hub of civilization that Terminus City was, or a place where knowledge was gathered like Luminas City was. Still, if Mandrake couldn’t find his friend in either of those cities then he wouldn’t have much of a choice but to search on his own. Despite her cheerful demeanor a frown tugged at her lips as she thought about the loneliness he must have felt to undertake such a tough search. It was a thought that drove too close to home for her liking, and she shook her head to clear her thoughts.
“I see. That must be rough, not knowing where he is. He must have been a good friend too, if you’re willing to do all this to find him. What was his name? I can try to keep an eye out for you if you want?” She paused for a moment to scratch at the side of her head thoughtfully, trying to remember something.
“Say… Since we’re on the topic of finding people, I’ve been looking for someone with white fur and a flashy red cape myself. I’m afraid I don’t know their name, or what kind of digimon they are, either. It’s all just a hazy memory.” Des shrugged her tiny shoulders, unable to provide any other kind of helpful information. “It almost feels like they’re a ghost from a past life or something, so I haven’t been looking too hard myself? It’s funny that we can be reborn, but completely forget everything that was important to us. Is that what happened to you too, Mandrake?”

"His name is Lothar and last I saw him he was a Tsunomon with impressive physical strength. Since Tsunomon can have varied evolution lines he can be one of many possible options. However, if he keeps certain traits he had when I last saw him like being a bit bigger than average and having brown eyes, I guess that narrows things down. Lothar is also no mere stupid brute so deep down I know he should be fine but it makes me wonder if he's searching for me as well or even has a human partner. Of course I have nothing against humans since the Human World is intriguing to me still." Mandrake said though if Lothar was in the Human World he had a low chance of sensing him telepathically considering all the minds in Shibuya.
Then Des mentioned someone she barely seemed to remember possibly someone she knew from a previous life even. It seemed he was not the only one looking for someone. "I'm afraid I've never seen a digimon like that but, with an appearance like that, your friend would be a memorable sight. As for previous lives I'm not sure if I had one Des. I've also heard of the Human World having influence on some digimon before they're born. Maybe that is another reason that world draws me. I don't know why but I have a feeling it might be a key to a part of myself even if it is small."

“A big tsunomon with brown eyes named Lothar, huh?” repeated Des as she tilted her head slightly in thought. That definitely didn’t ring any bells, but that did narrow things down quite a bit for future reference. Mandrake was right, though; who knew what Lothar had digivolved to since their last meeting? Well, at least she could ask any Lothars she came across if they knew anyone named Mandrake. Des shrugged again after Mandrake commented on the digimon she had been looking for herself. Whoever they were, they must have been a sight to catch her eye sure, but she really didn’t know.
“Hmm,” mused the tsukaimon as she mulled over Mandrake’s theory about the human world. “I hope not,” she said flatly, clearly not liking the thought at all although her expression remained calm. “The humans do have a fascinating world unique from our own. I do love the food there, as it has something extra to it. However, humans are.. strange, to me at least.” She set her iced coffee down on the table as she looked out to the street, eyeing a random human walking around.
“The candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long, I believe is how the saying goes? I’ll admit that I don’t understand them as a whole, or even as individuals. Sometimes they act so destructive to themselves and everything around them. If Lothar has aligned himself with a human partner, I hope they’re both getting along.” Des shook her head before glancing back to Mandrake. “Have you been to the human world yet? Shibuya’s a nice place with plenty to see.”

"To be fair, Des, I think humans find us just as strange." Mandrake said as he glanced briefly at the same human Des was looking at before he turned his attention back to his drink as he took a sip before setting it back down.
At the subject of humans being destructive towards themselves and others Mandrake said "To be fair, we digimon tend to be far more destructive towards each other considering our potential for dangerous powers. Though I'm sure we have the potential to be just as destructive towards ourselves as humans do. Makes me wonder how much like humans digimon are at times."
When asked if he had been to Shibuya, Mandrake smiled before he said "While looking for Lothar I have adventured to Shibuya a few times though during my first trip I ran into some trouble. Some human mugger tried to rob me at knife point in broad daylight. At least the local law enforcement was able to deal with him considering if I had done so I would of likely disrupted my holosuit. As I'm sure you know, very few digimon are able to pass as humans in costumes in Shibuya. Which is especially true at the rookie stage."
