Mandrake totally understood the perks as well as the dangers of being an adventurer but staying in one place to long was boring to him. Yet even he understood the appeal others had for a more stable life that came with living in one place. "As someone who carries very little I can understand the appeal of modern conveniences when I stop by in a town. One can not always find things like creature comforts out in the wild. As for overcoming obstacles, I agree that it is always worth it."
As Des mentioned a spell she wanted to learn involving turning her hat into a tent, Mandrake said "Such an ability could have it's uses when it comes to traveling and, who knows, maybe you can even find some other uses for it if you use your imagination."
"At least in my travels I've gotten used to roughing it." Mandrake said with a smile.

She pursed her lips in a thoughtful expression at his suggestion of using a large tent for more than traveling. The witchmon hummed for a moment before grimacing.
“I can’t say I’d do well ‘roughing it,’ at least not playing rough in that sense,” she said with a chuckle as she shook her head. “If I could turn my hat into a tent housing its own closed pocket of reality, then my imagination could find other rough uses for it. For now though, it’s just a distant thought.”
Des picked up her drink, but paused at its weightlessness. She gave the can a light shake to confirm it was empty before setting it to the side on the table. The clone who had been fanning Mandrake’s back left them after picking up the can to throw it away.
“Do you have a place to stay while you’re in Rosewood, Mandrake?” asked the seated witchmon. “I’m renting a room at one of the inns, and you’re welcomed to rest there for the time being. Just keep the heroics down, alright? You’re a tough mon with a good heart, but everyone has their limits, yeah?”

"I guess while I've been traveling I have just gotten used to roughing it when not staying in towns but I understand it's not for everyone." Mandrake said as he had gotten used to the excitement of traveling despite the potential dangers it had. Mandrake lifted the can he had been drinking from and finished his drink. As one of the clones picked up her empty can and went to throw it away, Mandrake pushed himself up and summoned his scythe using it to support himself and proceeded to make his way to where the cans could be disposed of. Even though it was a painful process, he managed to throw the can away and return to the chair he had been sitting at dispelling his scythe seconds later.
When she mentioned if Mandrake had a place to stay in Rosewood, he said "Unfortunately since I recently got out of the hospital I haven't had time to get a room for myself. I would be flattered to share the room." When mentioned he was a tough mon with a good heart, Mandrake then said "I have to admit you are the first digimon to describe me as tough, Des. Most consider me at best a weak little trickster or an annoying one."

She nodded in acknowledgement of his agreement about roughing it; most adventurers would probably have ribbed Des for not liking it herself. At least outwardly it seemed that this impmon really was a kind person after all. The witchmon said nothing as Mandrake stood up to throw his own drink away, even though it was obvious walking pained him. Forcing help where it wasn’t wanted was something she was generally against, being a rather prideful being herself.
“Ah, think nothing of it,” she reassured with a carefree wave of her hand. “As a tsukaimon I don’t take up a lot of space myself, and it’s about time someone else did something for you, at any rate.” The witchmon hummed softly in thought at his words while idly tapping a finger against the table. “Impmons do have a reputation for being mischievous, yes. That being said, there is a toughness of the body, and a toughness of the mind. You shouldn’t sell yourself so short, Mandrake.”
Rising up from her seat Desdemona waved her hand again, this time in a dismissive gesture towards her clones. Her witchmon clones disappeared immediately, and as she kept her hand out her broomstick materialized as well. She grabbed onto the item and lowered it before taking a seat on the broom. Hovering above the ground with it Des smiled at the impmon and held out her hand.
“Have a seat, then. I’ll fly slow so you don’t have to worry.”

"Many rookie level digimon don't take up much space except for a rare few." Mandrake said in response to Des's statement about not taking up much space as Tsukaimon. "Which is why when some rookies digivolve into giant creatures at the champion level can be so surprising." At her statement about Impmon's having a reputation of being mischievous, Mandrake chuckled before he said "That they do but I've learned in some cases magic users and mischief tends to go hand to hand. I'm proof of this at times."
Mandrake watched as Des casually dismissed her clones with a simple wave of her hand before materializing her broom. Soon she was seated on her broom and offering her hand to Mandrake intending to assist him on climbing aboard even offering to fly slow. Standing slowly up and using the table for support, he then reached out to her with his clawed hand taking a firm hold of it. Now all he had to do was wait for her to pull him up.

Mandrake's comment about rookies evolving into giants had her wondering momentarily what he might digivolve into. He was the first impmon she had encountered in person. Although she was familiar with the general reputation of the species Mandrake seemed to be an exception to the rule. He had even stopped another impmon from committing mayhem.
'A strange individual, but individuals standing out from the crowd were always more exciting,' she thought to herself.
"Magic and mischief, trouble and fun. They're all the same to me." The witchmon smiled pleasantly in agreement as she watched Mandrake ease himself out of his seat. Once he took her hand she carefully lifted him up. She placed him forward of her own position on the broom, and held his arm to keep him steady, ever mindful of the burns on his back. Once he was situated Des levitated them higher, up above the quaint buildings of Rosewood. Then they moved forward at a relatively slow but steady pace. They didn't fly too high though to be above the forest's canopy.
Flying directly made the trip much shorter than it would have been on foot. The inn Des had rented a room in was built onto and into a towering tree, with stairs and walkways crisscrossing the bark to huts at various points on the tree. Des stopped at one such abode that would have been several stories above the ground on a conventional building. They landed on the front balcony, low enough to where the witchmon had to step off so Mandrake could disembark at his own pace.
"Here we are," she spoke as she opened the front door. Being a rented living space there was nothing grand about its décor, but it certainly lived up to its intended purposes. "You might find something for your burns in the bathroom. Help yourself to what's in the fridge as well. I'll be in Rosewood for some time, so don't worry about needing time to recover yourself."

When Des said 'Magic and mischief, trouble and fun' Mandrake chuckled before he said "I understand those words to well." Then he sighed before he, in a less amused tone, continued "Though back in my home village the villagers hated me for a reason I still don't understand. After all just because Impmon are known for mischief doesn't mean I'll burn a village down after all."
Though Des gently helped him onto her broom he did wince quietly in pain. He was beginning to think that he shouldn't have been so arrogant when facing that Impmon X. Unfortunately arrogance was a bit of a flaw of his that he probably would have to contend with at a later date. He just hoped no one else would suffer if his arrogance struck again.
Soon the broom landed arrived at an inn built into a towering tree. It was a nice touch design wise but Mandrake was definitely glad he didn't have to walk up those stairs because of the burns on his back. In his condition he doubted he could have made it up the steps alone anyway.
Des landed on the balcony and Mandrake carefully got off the broom with a shooting pain traveling up his back from the burns causing him to release a brief hiss of pain. Silently nodding in thanks, Mandrake hobbled towards the bathroom. Knowing cool water would help he carefully climbed into the shower after making sure the water was at the right temperature.
Sometime later Mandrake felt a bit better as he slowly made his way out of the bathroom after drying off and headed toward the kitchen. Since his appetite was small it wouldn't take long to satisfy his need for food as he rooted through the fridge and, after making a sandwich, he made his way to sit down on a nearby chair to eat.

"From what I've heard of so far, only impmon X's have a habit of burning things down," joked the witchmon in reply to the comment Mandrake made about his village.
She then allowed Mandrake to take time to himself as she devolved back into tsukaimon and laid out on the bed. While she had made a whimsical comment just then, it had given the little digimon some food for thought. She patiently waited for the impmon to finish in the bathroom and the kitchen, and by the time Mandrake was done with his sandwich she herself was moving about. Her wings flapped softly as she held herself aloft in the air and flew near the impmon.
"Hey, Mandrake? I don't mean to bring up old wounds, but earlier when you mentioned that your village hated you for no reason. You don't strike me as the type to retaliate against that kind of unwarranted spite." Des looked away in thought before continuing; when she spoke again she returned her gaze to Mandrake.
"I don't think I could tolerate something like that, myself. So what did you do?"

Mandrake chose not to comment about Impmon X's and burning down villages. His mouth was full anyway so that was a good excuse to remain silent. Sometime later Des dedgivolved back into Tsukaimon and shortly entered the kitchen just as he had finished his sandwhich.
"I know it would make sense for me to hate the villagers for how they treated me but I don't. Hate and fear can make rational digimon behave in ways that seem nonsensical. Perhaps a digivolved Impmon once caused the village misery before I was born." he said with a sigh before he continued "And you're right, I'm not the vengeful type but, if not for the Jijimon who raised me and a Tsunomon named Lothar who I befriended, I easily could have been no better than a hateful monster. Didn't help that all the children used to bully me, including beating me up, and their parents did nothing to stop them."

It was a long moment before Des replied, so lost in her own thoughts she was.
"That... is a fair answer, Mandrake," she finally said flatly. The tsukaimon landed and stood up on the table. "As a magic user I sometimes find that which I can't explain to be alluring, like new spells for example. But emotions are something I haven't yet been able to really nail down consistently. Strangely, that unknown frightens me a little." She chuckled and shook her head.
"Strong feelings, like hate, or sometimes even love? They aren't always rational. Dealing with them isn't as straightforward as practicing a new spell. So what was it that this jijimon and Lothar taught you that makes this matter so easy for you to deal with? You exude a calmness I haven't seen in many other digimon new to adventure."
Des wasn't sure what answer she was looking for exactly, but the way Mandrake carried himself made her think that he did have some kind of mystical answer she hadn't thought of before. If he didn't, she supposed that'd be fine as well. Either way, she did wonder why this impmon was the way he was.

"I agree with emotions not being as easy to understand as magic." Mandrake said as he thought on it. Compared to emotions magic spells seemed more straightforward to understand. Even the ones the were built around deception.
"Aside from succeeding in raising me to be a kind digimon and helping me learn how to control my telepathy, telekinesis, and control my magical energies I don't remember Jijimon doing anything to special. Maybe it was meeting Lothar that had something to do with it since he was the first digimon about my age to treat me with kindness. His family are traveling merchants and spent that summer in my village." Mandrake said with a sigh as the discussion was reminding him of the friend he was searching for before he then said "As for why I exude this sense of calm, as far as I remember, I've always been a calm digimon by nature. It has helped me so far but my arrogance against Impmon X got me burned last night."

The tsukaimon wasn't sure if she was ultimately satisfied with Mandrake's answer. As expected, he agreed that emotions were fickle things themselves. There was no tome of knowledge that could disprove that notion. Rubbing at her chin in thought Des hummed softly to herself.
"Y'know? Now that you mention it I really didn't have a mentor aside from the Swanmon in the Village of Beginnings. I can't say I've ever had a long term friend, either; although, I've never felt the specific need for any of those things? My thoughts were all I had, and they were.. restless."
Was she really missing out on something worthwhile? It was too early to say, but Mandrake was proving to be an interesting case study. Still standing atop the table the tsukaimon waddled over to the impmon.
"You can't really go wrong with having more friends though, right? So how about it, Mandrake? Do you want to be my friend?" she asked as she held out her hand, smiling earnestly. "I don't know if I'll be any good at it, but you never know till you try!"

Mandrake watched as Des rubbed her chin and hummed in thought to his answer. He may have been in some ways wise for his age but in others he was just as in the dark as they were, particularly with understanding the emotions of others. Emotions were quite the struggle to figure out indeed.
She had no mentor aside from the Swanmon in the village of beginnings and, unlike him, had no long time friends. Her life sounded like a lonely one and for that Mandrake could relate. Since he left home his quest to find Lothar had yet to be successful and, unlike before Lothar's family came to his village, he was now feeling a curious sense of emptiness. It was as if he was incomplete somehow which was confusing to Mandrake seeing how young he still was.
Then it was Des that reached out and not just in the physical sense as she held her hand out if offering a handshake as she then offered her friendship. "I understand quiet well about being alone and definitely would of liked to have lots of friends. Don't worry about not being good at friendship, Des, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. Life is a learning process after all." Mandrake said as he reached his clawed hand out accepting her offer of a handshake.
