He too would be doing the same due to his obsession with anime, manga, and other similar pop culture entertainment options. Then, a set of situationally relevant choices appeared before his avatar, so Faustein made him choose the middle one
“Hey, thanks! These will help me a lot!! Any chance you’ll let me in on what they contain?”
The NPC Divermon chuckled, but nevertheless, he obliged by providing a perfunctory sneak peek
“The first one contains mostly utility cards, but the second contains more monster cards. You can always come back here to buy more cards off me as and when necessary. Now then, do you want to learn about Card Battles?”
Faustein’s avatar nodded, so then the NPC Divermon pointed him to the other NPCs, Card Master Ken and Collector Luke, the action triggering the conversation sequences of those NPCs in turn
Okay… Card Types… Digimon Card… Program Card… Folders…Field Setup…Phases…S-Energy…Combos…Battle Prizes…Cardmon…Freeze Bug…Special Cards, eh? Alright, I should analyze each of these and commit them to memory...
Faustein thought as he read each topic carefully being taught by the NPCs Card Master Ken and Collector Luke. Finally, after several minutes of revising each section, he was finally done. Sadly, he was not able to test out his newfound knowledge in a practical card battle, so for the time being, he made his avatar exit the Yellow Cruiser building. Then, he made his character return to the Asuka City Streets and visited the establishment called Smith’s Shop. There, a Gargomon NPC greeted him while displaying various weapons and armor for him to browse through
“Hi there, welcome to Smith’s Shop! I am Gargomon and I run this store…wanna buy some weapons and armor?”
Faustein made his avatar nod and so, the Gargomon NPC explained further
“If you’re not sure what to buy first, I suggest buying two weapons and mostly body armor for each body part of each digimon you want to equip…oh, and shields are kinda unnecessary at your level, so best not to waste your precious bits on them right now. Also, don’t bother buying cheaper equipment since the more expensive stuff is a better deal cuz of superior durability.”
With that, the NPC Gargomon’s conversation sequence ended and it fell silent, after which Faustein watched as his avatar thanked it and proceeded to purchase the equipment for the Renamon X on his team first since its stats seemed to have the most growth potential out of the three unit team that he had with him. All this while the Renamon X had been silent, but now she hugged him while giggling and remarking excitedly
“Aww, you bought all this for me, Master?! You’re not so r00d after all, in fact you’re quite generous!”
Needless to say, Faustein was taken unawares and did not know quite how to respond in the situation, so he merely did the one logical thing he could conceive of, still with the same impassive, inscrutable facial expression
“It is imperative to extend the viability of this digimon team as much as possible.”
He was about to continue, but then, his guilty pleasure of floof enjoyment overtook his mind and he simply let his face sink into the rather luxuriant mass of silky soft fur present on her thorax, which incidentally happened to be where she was hugging his head. It was so very tempting to just fall asleep in standing position like that, and he had almost nodded off too for several minutes while murmuring to himself with an ear-splitting grin on his thin lips

“Ah floof…gift of the heavens…so warm and so comfortable…how truly splendorous…”
Alas, it was not to last very long for soon, the logical side of him which was predominant reasserted itself at that moment with a furious vengeance. Thus, he was forced back to the harsh reality which was his current game environment and the fact that he had a contract to fulfill as swiftly and as thoroughly as possible. Hence, with a supreme effort of will, he forced his mind back to the present and refocused it on the task at hand, namely, the secret investigation of the Digimon Online VRMMORPG and of the mysterious incidents which had been purportedly plaguing it. The purchase of two generic weapons and a full set of generic body armor which he had done about an hour ago had cost him almost all of the BITS he had in his possession, so for the time being, he watched as his avatar thanked the NPC Gargomon and then exited the shop. Then, once the game had given control of his avatar back to him, Faustein made his avatar head to the Inn where he saved his game progress and then upon exiting, headed out from the southern exit point of the city.
The first area Faustein and his avatar encountered was one known as “Central Sector - Asuka Bridge” as could be seen from the floating holographic label which appeared in the air above him once he entered the area and triggered its program. There was not much in the way of notable NPCs in this locale besides the city guards which were a RookChessmon and BishopChessmon. So, he simply exited the area to the south, and eventually reached the next area which the name “Central Sector – Central Park” displayed on its particular holographic floating label. Upon arrival, Faustein made his avatar enter the park and look about in an attempt to activate any NPCs, but no such luck was to be had here. However, there were other sights to take in at the locale. There was an NPC Tamer named “Natsuko” who looked rather strong and even offered to give him a Digimon Battle at the end of her conversation sequence, but since she looked to be far stronger than Faustein’s avatar, he refused for the time being. After that, he noticed an old woman questioning a set of holes which were pockmarking the ground of Central Park. However, they did not reveal anything significant at the moment, so he left them alone and headed off toward the northwest part of the Central Sector.
There, Faustein was alerted to his avatar noticing a Gym ran by a Leomon NPC. Faustein controlled his avatar to approach the Leomon NPC to activate its conversation sequence after which he was allowed to train his digimon team there for a while. Once Faustein felt that each digimon had its necessary stats at a high enough level, he made his avatar pay the Leomon NPC and then headed back into the park area. After that, he spent the next several hours participating in random battles against the wild Digimon there and luckily, these gave him 155 EXP to each of his three digimon and 340 BITS in total, so it was well worth the effort. Consequently, each of his digimon were now at level 5 and had unlocked their respective Champion forms as well. During these battles with the wild Kunemon and Tapirmon, Faustein was alerted to another suspicious anomaly in the game’s programming. Some of the digimon enemies had unusually aggressive, strangely realistic responses instead of the usual telltale preprogrammed reaction sequences which would be otherwise common to the game.

Apart from that, these anomalous digimon also had a black, glitchy aura around them which looked like a haze of what seemed to be ancient Digi-Code.
Something anomalous this way comes, I perceive. The plot thickens, how very curious indeed. They almost look like actual Digimon, but this aspect is not yet clear.
Faustein mused silently while his avatar just stood there confused by the event, and at that time, his Renamon X nudged him and whispered
Heads up, Master. These digimon are not normal, in fact, they almost look like…
Faustein snapped out of his thoughts and then glanced at her sideways while whispering back and completing the thought for her
Real digimon? Yes, I was pondering the same issue. It is imperative that we be on guard for any other such anomalies for it looks like something truly IS wrong with this game
With that the conversation ended for the time being and then, he made his avatar start up the path just south of Leomon's Gym. After that, he made his avatar wind his way upwards until the roof of the Gym came into view. Finally, he made his avatar climb up the ladder to the roof, then take the next ladder down to the chest which he could see laying on the ground below. The chest contained a Power Charge which he made his avatar pick up and place in his inventory. Once this was complete, Faustein controlled his avatar to move back to the Central Park area after which he directed his avatar toward the area he could see to the eastern direction on the mini-map. As his avatar arrived, the area’s program triggered, leading to the appearance of the familiar floating hologram with the area label on it, this one being “West Wire Forest”.
Forest of Death, here I come…I suppose I should be vigilant and avoid any suspicious snake ladies and masked wetsuit and rebreather wearing enemies if at all possible…
Faustein thought to himself with an amused chuckle as he noticed that the game design made the forest before him look and sound just like a certain deep, dark, and dreary forest in a certain anime from the human world. After musing thus silently for a few moments, he and his digimon triumvirate entered the West Wire Forest and were immediately engaged in a series of wild battles on their way further in, though the enemies were simply more of the same, specifically Kunemon and Tapirmon, but at least each of his three digimon gained another 155 EXP while his account gained another 340 BITS for a total of 680 BITS, so he did not gripe about that. However, at a certain spot, Faustein was alerted to his avatar having triggered an NPC child. This one looked like the stereotypical rich snob and even behaved like one in that he refused to engage Faustein’s avatar in a Digimon battle or Digimon TCG either. So, with nothing else to do, Faustein made his avatar take the east facing path deeper still into the forest.

The area which greeted his avatar’s sight had the label “West Wire Forest – East Sector” as could be seen from a brief examination of the floating hologram which had appeared on cue moments after stepping into said area. Faustein then made his avatar move about a full 360 degrees so he could make a mental note of all the notable structures or locations. During this exploration, his avatar along with his digimon team encountered slightly stronger digimon, these being a series of level 10 Kuwagamon and level 10 Betamon. Upon defeat after these grueling battles, each of the digimon trio, namely Kotemon, Patamon, and Renamon X received 330 EXP while Faustein’s avatar became even richer by an additional 500 BITS which brought his grand total to 1380 BITS. Unfortunately, after each battle, Faustein was forced to make his avatar run back to Asuka City and heal at the Inn, so by the time he was done, he had somewhat less money than before. Still, it was more than enough to purchase two more sets of generic equipment for the Kotemon and the Patamon, so now each of his three digimon were ready to face whatever threats lay deeper in the forest. Furthermore, they had gained a couple more levels, so they were all at level 7 now, a fact that further boosted his confidence in their viability.
Alrighty! Now, what else is there in this place, I wonder?
Faustein felt his avatar’s preprogrammed thoughts seep into his mind as before and then watched as said avatar looked about and noticed a trail that he had not explored yet. In accordance with that, Faustein controlled his avatar to follow the trail through a clearing, and made him head north at the intersection. The path then turned east and at the end of it was a chest waiting for them
Another chest, eh? I wonder what this one contains within its confines.
Musing thus silently, Faustein controlled his avatar to open the chest and inside, he found a "Buckler", a single unit, basic shield type, generic equipment. Luckily, he had avoided making his avatar purchase any shields thus far, so this was a welcome addition to his growing armory.
Awesome!! It’s a Buckler, so now I can buff my digimon’s defensive powers by some degree!!
Faustein felt these excited thoughts of his avatar seep into his mind once again and smirked briefly before refocusing his attention on the next set of objectives. He had already explored the vicinity, so it was finally time to head further outward in his exploratory expedition. Before that, however, he needed to head back to Central Park since the routes to the other areas always seemed to start there. That is exactly what he made his avatar do, and soon after reaching the Central Park, he searched for the western exit, located it, and then followed the path past Leomon's Gym and exited the area to the west. Upon reaching the end of the path, he found that his avatar had entered the next connected area known as “Central Sector - Plug Cape.”

I wonder, what sort of digimon will I find here? This should be intriguing indeed.
Faustein then controlled his avatar to walk down the path and approach the kid NPC at the bottom. This one was called “Soccer Kid Hide”. As Faustein’s avatar drew near him, Faustein was alerted to his avatar noticing said NPC kicking the tree in front of him and complaining because some digimon called “Cardmon” was not coming out. Naturally, Faustein made his avatar ask the NPC Soccer Kid Hide
“Why are you kicking these trees like that?”
To that, the NPC Hide replied in a most matter-of-fact tone as if the info were the most obvious thing in the world
“I am doing it to find Cardmon, of course! Cardmon is a Digimon that drops Boosters with extra cards upon defeat, by the way.”
At that moment, Faustein felt his avatar’s thoughts seeping into his mind once again as before
Whoa!! So cool, I have got to start checking this out!! Maybe I will get lucky and score some sweet cards
Faustein chuckled and shook his head at the naivete of his avatar, but then refocused his attention on the game. He then watched as his avatar asked the NPC Soccer Kid Hide about the process of acquiring Cardmon Boosters.
“You need Tree Boots to kick these trees in order to get the wild Cardmon to fall out of them. Then, you need to defeat them to get the Boosters. I can tell you how to get the Boots in exchange for my lost Gabumon card. You game?”
The NPC Soccer Kid Hide said and then stated his request in the same breath. So, Faustein made his avatar choose the Accept option in the dialogue that came next and then headed off in search of the Gabumon card. Eventually, he and his avatar ended up in Asuka City and thus, Faustein decided to take a short break to visit the Armory and the Gargomon NPC there. He used the remaining BITS in his avatar’s account to purchase a Bamboo Spear weapon type equipment piece and after completing the transaction, he controlled his avatar to visit the Inn next to save the game. Once there, he saved the game by using the NPC Guardromon’s service and then wandered around for a while. Luckily, he found a way down the ladder nearby and then searched the end of the shelves opposite some NPC named “Fussy Frederika” to find Hide's lost Gabumon card. At this point, he was shown an alert regarding his CHARISMA stat which had apparently leveled up enough by this point to unlock the Card Battles at the Yellow Cruiser building.
Sweetness!! Now I can challenge those guys at Yellow Cruiser and win even more amazing cards!!
Faustein smirked as he felt his avatar’s thoughts seep into his mind and since he was thinking about doing that anyway, that is what he controlled his avatar to do in the end.
After the usual travel, he was once again at the Yellow Cruiser building and so, made his avatar head inside. Once there, he noticed the four Card Battlers in counter clockwise direction as NPCs Tamers “Steve”, “Gloria”, “Wong”, and “Nokia”. Faustein made sure to edit his deck to include Hide’s Gabumon card since it was a 4/3 in terms of offense/defense powers before engaging the first of the lot.

This one, aka Steve had a Lv.7 Protector Folder, so he was fairly easy to beat since he only had some low-level digimon and there were no real surprises over the course of the game. After the win, Faustein made his avatar open a Booster Pack with Divermon as soon as he won it. This gave his avatar the cards to edit his deck before the next Card Battle. After spending some time to review his strategy, Faustein controlled his avatar to challenge Gloria, who was the next opponent by talking to her twice just as he had with Steve earlier.
Gloria happened to be slightly tougher than Steve as Faustein noticed when he began the Card Battle, and wielded a Lv. 8 Amazing Patamon folder and associated deck. Thanks to the upgrades to his deck, however, she was not that difficult either. In fact, she only had some lower level Digimon and the best one in her deck was a Kotemon. It was a very defensive deck, though since Gloria's Digimon were all heavy on HP. The only real hiccup was that she had managed to summon three Patamon out at once after which she summoned MagnaAngemon in Faustein’s first round with her. Naturally, his avatar lost that round since he was just playing with the Practice Folder. The good news was that she was not able to replicate that feat in the next two rounds, and thus, Faustein was able to control his avatar to play the remaining two rounds and win the match against her overall since it was best 2 out of 3 as it had been with Steve.
Oh my, these Card Battles are much more fun than they had seemed at first glance. It is probably smart to start playing these in the real Digital World whenever it is this mission reaches completion.
Faustein mused silently as he made his avatar edit his deck once more for the next Card Battle with the cards that he received from the Prize Booster given by Gloria. The next fight which was against Wong was tougher still and he possessed a Lv. 6 Mind Folder. The reason this Card Battle was tougher was due to the fact that Faustein noticed that Wong had a high level summon engine which let him swarm his side of the field with several Digimon simultaneously at almost every turn.
Curses, this dude is actually pretty tough, I will probably be losing this round
Faustein felt these thoughts of his avatar seep into his mind and concurred mentally before refocusing on the game at hand. As expected, his avatar lost the first round, but in exchange obtained valuable data on the structure of Wong’s deck. Consequently, Faustein was able to synthesize a winning strategy which allowed his avatar to defeat Wong in the subsequent two rounds of play.
Once he received the Prize Booster for this match win, Faustein edited his avatar’s deck one final time for the last of the matches. This one was against Nokia who used a Lv. 5 Cool Digimon Folder and oddly enough, this match was the easiest of the four for Faustein and his avatar. The most powerful thing that Faustein saw him summon was a Renamon (4/4). Actually, he never even had 10 AP on the table at any one time. In this manner, Faustein managed to control his avatar to defeat all four of the aforementioned Card Battlers and in the process, managed to make his avatar’s deck a fair degree greater in combat capacity. Afterwards, he exited the Yellow Cruiser and went outside, which triggered the familiar floating holographic label to appear over the building next door.

El…Dorado? Did the programmers really make an allusion to that old legend here of all places?
Faustein thought amusedly as he looked up at the giant boldly lit sign atop the El Dorado building. Then, he walked inside and initially, his path was obstructed by some NPC labeled as “Item Freak Ken”who told him that he could not enter, but thankfully, another NPC which was a digimon called a “Ponchomon” came to his aid by scanning his avatar and noting aloud that his Charisma stat was indeed high enough to grant him access to the facility. After this, the Ponchomon handed the “El Dorado ID” item to Faustein’s avatar while explaining that the card in his hand was the official ID card for the El Dorado facility and that he needed to have it on his person at all times while within its confines. Then, the Ponchomon explained further, all the while speaking in that same, incredibly thick, Spanish accent
“This is a very nice item, amigo. Later on, it will let you access auctions and the Black Market and Heavy Arms shops. So, don’t go losing it, amigo!”
There, the conversation sequence ended and then, Faustein controlled his avatar to put the “El Dorado ID” item in his Key Items section of the inventory after the game had displayed the usual acquisition popup notification. Subsequently, he made his avatar walk up to an NPC labeled “Rapper Mike” who then asked for the ID, so Faustein controlled his avatar to show the NPC the ID for El Dorado which he had received moments ago. With that, the program controlling the doors opened them and then the NPC “Rapper Mike” welcomed him and then ushered him inside. Once inside, Faustein was able to make his avatar go down to meet the rest of the El Dorado denizens. He made him talk to some of them, but there wasn't anything more to do there at this stage. So instead, he decided to have his avatar explore a curious looking door over at the bottom of the floor. This door at the bottom led his avatar to the “Water Tunnel” area, which in turn led to a structure called the “Cargo Tower”. Sadly, he couldn't do anything at either of those locations at the moment either. Therefore, Faustein controlled his avatar to head back up to the El Dorado floor above at which point he realized that it was time to finish prepping for his avatar’s journey into the world.
There are a couple of quests and some Digimon Battles to take care of, so perhaps it would be wise to leave Asuka City for the Central Park area once more.
Faustein mused silently as he leaned his avatar up against a wall behind him as he considered his next few options. Then, he made his avatar exit the El Dorado facility and then head off to the Central Park area as before. Once here, he was alerted to his avatar noticing the brilliant holographic battle notice icon floating atop the nearest NPC aka “Tamer Natsumi”. So, he made his avatar head southeast of the bridge to reach her location and then talk to her twice as was the protocol which activated her battle programming, thus launching them into a Digimon Battle against each other. During this, Faustein found that Natsumi’s team increased in difficulty level progressively from first to last digimon. She started out with Betamon, then moved to Vegiemon, and finally to Kiwimon.

In response, Faustein decided to lead off with Kotemon instead of bringing out his strongest partner, the Renamon X. Thanks to all the training it had received prior to this battle and the equipment it had been given, it was a fairly straightforward, but still difficult fight. Afterward, he used one of the 10 Power Charges he had in his avatar’s inventory to heal the Kotemon and then proceeded to battle the Vegiemon, and somehow managed to knock it out as well, though this second battle did force him to use his Kotemon’s champion form of choice, Dinohyumon to do so.
In the third battle, however, the Kiwimon that was his Kotemon’s opponent proved to be much more difficult for a fair few reasons. The first of these was its sheer attack power which was far greater than anything Faustein’s Kotemon could muster in its tired state. Actually, it came in and hit for over 150 points of damage, and since it got the first hit on the sorely wounded Kotemon, it was able to KO it easily. Thus, Faustein’s Kotemon fainted and so, he was left with Patamon and the strongest of his partners, Renamon X. It was then that he noticed that same inexplicable malicious aura from earlier now surrounding the Kiwimon. This and the other strange thing about it, namely its seemingly too realistic response sequences alerted him to the fact that this was actually a real Digimon masquerading as an in-game NPCs just as those wild digimon had earlier.
Stay alert, Master. This is another one of “them”. I think it’s best if you let me handle this one, don’t you think?
His Renamon X interrupted him at this stage with this suggestion and that gave Faustein pause to think about his strategy for the impending confrontation. Then, he realized that Renamon X was indeed the correct choice for the battle and so, he sent her out. Since both were real digimon, it was a fairly even fight, but at times Faustein did have to make his avatar use up a couple of Power Charges to keep her going till the end. Fortunately, at the end of the battle, Renamon X digivolved into Kyuubimon X which was enough to destroy the corrupted digimon, Kiwimon, completely, thanks to her strongest move, the “Dragon Wheel” attack. Since he won the Digimon Battle, the scenery now went back to normal and Tamer Natsumi’s programming activated to give him the usual congratulatory message and his victory reward which was 78 EXP and 145 BITS. After this, Faustein regained control of his avatar from the game, so he made his avatar head over to the “Plug Cape” area again.
Once there, as before, Faustein made his avatar talk to the NPC “Soccer Kid Hide” again and he thanked Faustein’s avatar for finding his Gabumon card. True to his word, he told Faustein’s avatar about the “Tree Boots” item. It turned out that in order to get them, it was now necessary to become friends with a digimon NPC known as Veemon. Hence, Faustein made his avatar go off to try to find this Veemon NPC. Unfortunately for him, Veemon wasn't all that easy to find and so, Faustein controlled his avatar to return to Plug Cape and talk to NPC "Soccer Kid Hide" again. This time, he told Faustein’s avatar an interesting bit of information which sounded like a clue

“If you want to find out about Veemon, you need to go where people meet and talk to a certain maid/waitress. Good luck!”
Faustein thought about that for a moment and realized the clue pointed to the Lamb Chop bar and grill in Asuka City. So, he made up his mind to move his avatar there, but before he could do that, he was alerted to his avatar noticing something intriguing and then the game took over control of his avatar and Faustein had to watch the cutscene with his character thanking Hide and then running off in that direction. Fortunately, the game gave back control of his avatar back to Faustein and that was the fact that he was once again back in the Central Park area.
It seems all roads lead to Central Park, how quaint a sight this is…
Faustein mused silently and chuckled and he looked about to see where the game was trying to lead him. After a while, he noticed the main road heading off to the south, so he made his avatar take it to see where it would lead him. Before long, Faustein found his avatar was now in a beach-like area. Then, after looking about for several moments to get a panoramic view of the surroundings, Faustein made his avatar enter the area. Upon entry, Faustein was alerted to his character noticing the usual floating holographic sign for the area, this one displaying the name “Central Sector – Shell Beach”. So, Faustein made his avatar wander about the area noting that it was quaint, peaceful, but yet heavily infested with wild Digimon. Whilst in the grassy area, Faustein’s avatar encountered a series of 10 Betamon and 5 Vegiemon. Thankfully, due to all of his team digimon being able to access their Champion forms and also because of the weapons and armor that they had been equipped with, these Betamon and Vegiemon were not too much of a threat. At the end of these battles, Faustein smirked as he noticed his avatar’s finances increase once more to 595 BITS while each of his three Digimon gained 278 EXP thus far, with the inclusion of Tamer Natsumi’s rewards, of course.
The progression of these three is advancing more slowly now, I see. It is only to be expected, I suppose, since the next stage for them would be their Ultimate forms which are significantly stronger
Faustein thought silently as he considered the possibilities for the Ultimate forms of his three team Digimon. The Renamon X he was sure would become a Taomon as per usual. This was because her current Champion form was that of a Kyuubimon.
The Patamon on his team had the current form of a GuardiAngemon as its Champion form and while that was slightly different from the standard Angemon, he was fairly certain it would become a MagnaAngemon for its Ultimate form. The question lay with Kotemon as he had not encountered any of its forms in the real Digital World yet and currently, it held the Champion form of Dinohyumon. So, he surmised that it would be best to just pick the easiest of whatever options he would be presented with back at the Digimon Lab where he had first unlocked each of his three Digimon’s Champion forms. With that thought in mind, Faustein realized that his avatar needed to do a lot more training for his three Digimon henceforth and so, to start him off on the right foot as it were, Faustein controlled him to wander about for quite a while on the sands of Shell Beach.

It took quite a while since he had found some other anomalous aka corrupted Digimon here, namely 10 out of the 32 Gizamon which he had made his avatar battle with to train his Digimon team. However, at the end of this grueling gauntlet, Faustein noticed with a smug smirk that his avatar’s finances were now 1280 BITS richer, for a grand total of 1875 BITS and that his avatar’s three Digimon were each a couple of levels further toward their Ultimate stage goals. This was due to the 600 EXP that each of them had received from the sum total of these wild battles which meant that they were each now at Lv. 9.
After this, Faustein decided to give his avatar’s Digimon a break so they could naturally recover their HP and other stats as well. In the interim, he controlled his avatar to go southwest for some distance and at the end of this stretch of path, he noticed a metal bridge. Naturally, he made his avatar cross said bridge, go down the sandy ramp that lay beyond, and then had him follow the beach southeast until he came upon a really old fisherman NPC. His name was “Fishing Guru Tai Kong Wang”. The approach activated the NPC’s conversation sequence once Faustein had made his avatar talk to him twice.
“Heyo! I can make a fishing pole for you if you bring me a pole, string, and a hook, sonny! What do you say? Interested?”
Of course, Faustein made his avatar pick the “Accept” option at the end of this conversation sequence because he was interested to see what game features or areas such an item would unlock for him. However, he did not have all the materials on hand so he made his avatar ask the old NPC for directions on where to obtain them. Interestingly enough, apparently one of these, the “Bamboo Spear”, was an item he had encountered before and had one of already, but he needed a total of 3x of the “Bamboo Spear” item.
Now would be a grand time to go back to Asuka City. Perhaps I shall find at least one of these components there.
With that thought in mind, Faustein controlled his avatar to head back to Asuka City and visited the Central Sector again. Once here, he made his avatar head into the “Smith’s Shop” establishment and then purchase 2x “Bamboo Spear” for 200 BITS to complete that part of the “Fishing Rod” item requirement. After that, he also picked up a set of 30x “Antidote Disks” for 300 BITS total for since he was planning to go back into the forest area later. Then, he noticed that the NPC called “Waitress Debbie” was actually in the “Lamb Chop” bar and grill as he made his avatar exit the “Smith’s Shop” establishment. So, naturally, he controlled his avatar to head here. Once inside and after the game showed an auto-play cutscene of his avatar striking up a conversation with said NPC “Waitress Debbie”, Faustein controlled his character to trigger the next of her conversation sequences
“I saw Veemon the other day. He was looking for something at Wind Prairie. I wonder if he's still there, and if he'll play with me next time.”
Faustein raised one eyebrow slowly in as he looked at her quizzically heard the weird way in which the waitress was talking and the strange intonations which accompanied her out loud musing and out of place giggling
Just what kind of demented “play” are they planning to do together exactly? Such a strange NPC this one is with all her queer mannerisms. Oh well, best to just avoid asking about that.

Faustein thought silently before refocusing his attention on the present and after the NPC stopped talking, he made his avatar exit and then head to the Inn where he saved his game progress thus far with the help of the Data Backup Unit Guardromon NPC and healed his Digimon fully with the help of the Nurse Gatomon for 180 BITS for the three members of his Digimon team. Along with the 500 BITS expense for the 2x "Bamboo Spear" and 30x "Antidote Disks" total earlier, this new expense now left with his avatar with 1195 BITS remaining in his finances. After that was done, he controlled his avatar to head out to the West Wire Forest again. As he wandered deeper and deeper this time through the East Sector of that area, as before, he found that his avatar had to go through a veritable hornet’s nest of wild Digimon. Of course, these forest dwelling ones were again the same series of Betamon, Kunemon, and Kuwagamon. This time, each of these swarms of 10x members had that corrupted look, hyper-aggressive behavior, and jet-black aura around them which was composed of glitched looking ancient Digi-Code indicating that they were all real Digimon.
Real Digimon again, eh? How irksome, and yet so fascinating that this avatar’s Digimon are able to overcome them so quickly. Oh well, law of the jungle, I suppose…what an amusing notion.
Faustein thought as he witnessed the battle unfold before him. Thanks to all of his avatar’s Digimon now being Lv.9 though, Faustein was able to control them to defeat and destroy every one of these swarms and at the end, his avatar received 550 BITS which brought his finances to a total of 1745 BITS currently while each of his three Digimon gained 270 EXP which put them each at Lv. 10.
Great Scott, this corruption seems to be spreading ever more swiftly as the game progresses onward. It is quite possible that someone or something is actually behind this for this does not seem to be a natural digital phenomenon. Is this unknown force somehow luring and trapping these Digimon in this game, perhaps? That bears further investigation, but I suppose the answers will reveal themselves in due time.
Just then, his reverie was interrupted by the development of an otherworldly milieu followed by the sound of a strange garbled voice, one that seemed to be electronically altered, presumably to obfuscate the true identity of its bearer
“So, “they” have called a human from the outside world into the game to thwart my plans, eh? And I see that you’re quite the consummate combatant, but I do NOT appreciate you exterminating all my minions, so this is your one and only warning. Leave this world and never return again, for if you do, your life shall be forfeit!!”
This disembodied voice was laced heavily with palpable malevolence, its tone being ice-cold and steely as well. However, Faustein was not fazed by this in the least as he had heard such threats before. So, he simply retorted, his tone calm and almost bored but he did have his usual smug smirk on his thin lips

“Ah, the plot thickens still further I see. Very well, do your worst then. Let us see which one of us is forced to their knees in abject submission to the other at the end of this war.”
He finished making his avatar respond thus to the verbal provocation by the voice with some verbal provocation of his own and caused him to fell silent afterward, waiting for the disembodied voice to respond in some manner. However, all he earned in reply was a series of rather irritated sounds which resembled, curiously enough, the clicking noises made by an incensed beetle’s mandibles. Intrigued by this, Faustein filed this information away for future reference. Then, just as quickly as the surreal atmosphere with the disembodied voice had appeared, it again dissipated to nothing and left an ominous silence in its wake. Nevertheless, Faustein made his avatar continue moving onward into the forest as he had cleared the area of wild Digimon spawns for the time being. After reaching a certain distance, Faustein was alerted to his avatar noticing that there were another couple of item chests just like the last time.
I wonder, what might these two contain for me? Only one means of discovering the answer, I suppose.
With that thought in mind, Faustein controlled his avatar to open the two chests which then bestowed on his avatar another 10x set of “Power Charges” and a second “Buckler”. Here, he felt his avatar’s thoughts seep into his mind once more
Sweetness! Now yet another of my digimon will have some additional defensive capacity thanks to this Buckler
Faustein smirked and chuckled as he was even able to feel his avatar’s excited sentiment now, a fact that made him marvel at the sophistication of the game’s emulation software and contemplate the sheer volume of data input and layers of coding it must take to achieve this sort of complex synchronization. However, it was imperative that he hasten his investigation of the game, so he forced his mind back to the present situation. Then, he waited patiently for the acquisition notification sequence to end before making his avatar put the items away in his inventory. After that, he made his avatar follow the path to the T-junction in the forest path again, only this time, he made his avatar turn south instead. Then, Faustein controlled his avatar to take the next turn in the path which then led to the west and at the end, his avatar was left in an open area where there was an NPC labeled as “Card Battle Tamer Catherine”. So, Faustein made his avatar head over to her, which initiated the conversation sequence for said NPC.
“Hey there KuroFaustΩ, do you want to Card Battle with me? I promise I will be gentle.”
Naturally, Faustein made his avatar accept the challenge. However, he found that he had to make his avatar talk to her twice in order to activate the Card Battle option. Thus, Faustein began his avatar’s Card Battle against her. Catherine turned out to be not very much of a challenge as she wielded a simple Lv. 11 Vermin theme folder which didn't have any really powerful Digimon, but she did many weaker ones. This in turn allowed her to usually have at least four of them out per round, and several times, she was even able to fill her side up with six. Despite this, all it really took for Faustein to beat her was making his avatar summon a few moderately powerful Digimon from his folder which included the Gabumon card of the NPC “Soccer Kid Hide”, and occasionally one really powerful one, that one being a Divermon. Overall, Faustein managed to overwhelm her by controlling his avatar to pull around 15/15 total stats per round, so he didn't have many problems in achieving victory over her.

“Nicely done, KuroFaustΩ. I am impressed, you look like you’ll go far in the upcoming tournament. Perhaps you’ll even become Server Champ someday! Anyways, as a reward for your victory, you get a Booster 03a! Hope you get some rad cards, dude!”
The NPC “Card Battle Tamer Catherine” said in a somewhat overly ebullient manner as she handed Faustein’s avatar his prize for the Card Battle victory, that being a Booster Pack 03a. That ended the interaction sequence, so afterwards, Faustein made his avatar go back to the main path and follow it as it winded first south and then east which let him get to the next area. This area had the name “East Sector – East Wire Forest” as could be noted from the floating holographic area label which showed up once Faustein’s avatar entered said area. Of course, as he had before, Faustein once again memorized the route he made his avatar take to get there and filed it away in the mental map of the game world which he had been constructing thus far. Naturally, this was done to allow him to come back even quicker later on. Once again, as before, Faustein noticed that the wild Digimon swarms in the area immediately honed in on his avatar and proceeded to attack him. Fortunately, these were composed of just 20x each of Betamon and Kuwagamon.
So, Faustein’s avatar was able to command his Digimon trio and lead them to victory in destroying these enemy Digimon fairly easily given how powerful they had become by now and also due to all the equipment they were now wielding in each battle. Thanks to this latest encounter, Faustein noticed that his avatar’s Digimon had each jumped up two more levels from their previous one, Lv. 10, and so now they were each at Lv. 12 due to each receiving 420 EXP which when combined with the 1148 EXP each of them had thus far, gave a grand total of 1568 EXP. Meanwhile, Faustein’s avatar had his bank account balance rise to 2645 BITS in total. After that was done, Faustein made his avatar roam about further into the area and soon, his avatar was confronted by the sight of an Inn like the one he had seen back in “Asuka City”.
An Inn? In such a remote place, no less? Perhaps the game designers meant for this to be a sort of rest area for the adventuring PCs in the game which would allow them to avoid the arduous sojourn all the way back to Asuka City in order to use the Inn there.
Faustein thought silently for a few moments, but then his speculative musing was interrupted by the notification that his avatar had noticed an NPC nearby. So, Faustein made him look about to try to find this NPC and after a few moments, that was exactly what happened to him. Just north of the entrance to the Inn was this NPC and she had the label “Card Battle Tamer Lucia”. Since this was the case, Faustein surmised that he had to make his avatar speak to her twice just as he had with the previous NPC called “Card Battle Tamer Catherine” in order to activate her interaction and Card Battle sequence. So, that’s what he did and sure enough what he expected came to pass
“Hey there KuroFaustΩ, do you want to Card Battle with me? I wish to prove that I am still at the top of my game as I am quite confident in these skills of mine.”
In this manner, the Card Battle against “Card Battle Tamer Lucia” began in earnest. Unlike the previous opponents whom Faustein had made his avatar Card Battle against, Lucia was actually fairly decent at wielding her LV 12 Ogre Folder as she had claimed earlier. Almost every Digimon in her deck had a 2 in one stat, if not both. She also had a couple of more powerful cards. In addition, sometimes she was even able to get three Goblimon out onto the table after which she summoned her deck’s headliner card Etemon for a sweeping, powerful attack. Needless to say, with such opposition Faustein and his avatar had their work cut out for them. However, thanks to the cards he had received from opening the Booster 03a which he won from the NPC “Card Battle Tamer Catherine” earlier in the game, Faustein was able to make his avatar win in the end, albeit only a very slim and tenuous margin.

Great Scott! Now that was a truly stupendous Card Battle and it took everything that this avatar of mine had in his Deck just to defeat her. I wonder, will all the Card Battler Tamers whom my avatar and I may meet henceforth wield similarly prodigious prowess as her?
Faustein sighed as he lamented thus and then speculated briefly before coming back to reality. Then, Faustein made his avatar go back and follow the trail south and east until he got to a place with a signpost stuck in the ground. Just to the south of that was the Inn which he had seen earlier, so he decided to take the opportunity to give his avatar’s Digimon trio some much needed rest to recover HP and other stats. This forest Inn was a bit more expensive than its predecessor in Asuka City, but in exchange, it was much easier to navigate as well. The usual Data Backup Unit NPC Guardromon was upstairs besides some NPC girl who was rambling about her lost Veemon. So, Faustein controlled his avatar to save his game progress thus far with the help of the Guardromon NPC and then paid the 120 BITS to heal and restore each of the three Digimon on his team to full stats which set him back 360 BITS in total, but thanks to his recent victories against the wild digimon he could easily afford it. Now, his avatar’s finances were lowered to 2285 BITS. Then, Faustein made his avatar go downstairs in the Inn. There, he and his avatar encountered an NPC boy who was searching for a Bakemon, but can't find him. This NPC boy had also informed Faustein and his avatar that he could see ghosts around the area, apparently masquerading as normal Digimon.
This boy seems to be quite scared. I wonder, is there any truth to his tale? I suppose I should meander about just to verify it one way or another for myself.
Faustein thought silently as he and his avatar listened to the boy’s allegedly spooky tale. After the conversation sequence ended, Faustein made his avatar run around the place, but throughout his meandering, he could find no such ghosts anywhere.
Is the kid just crazy? Maybe, maybe not. It's something for me to keep in mind, I guess.
Faustein felt these preprogrammed thoughts of his avatar seep into his mind once more as before and chuckled, shaking his head. However, he could not deny that he too shared this sentiment. After coming back to the Inn to regain his bearings, Faustein controlled his avatar go back outside again and then head in the northern direction along the path before him, past the sign. At the end of that path, Faustein and his avatar found themselves in yet another wide, open area which was somewhat like a forest clearing. Then, he made his avatar look all around so that he could take in the setting details. The first thing he noted was that, to the north, there was a ramp that led upwards to some other area. Naturally, since he was curious what lay beyond, Faustein moved his avatar in that direction next. Once he had climbed the ramp and reached the top, Faustein found another NPC titled “Card Battle Tamer Robert”.
“I have been waiting for you at the top here and wanted to Card Battle with you, buddy! So, let’s throw down!! Come on, how about it, eh?”
Faustein was highly amused to see such a hilariously energetic NPC, but nevertheless, he made his avatar pick the “Accept” option when the usual two relevant choices were presented to him by the game’s programming. This NPC “Card Battle Tamer Robert” had a LV 13 Water Animal Folder and like the name implied, his deck turned out to be an all-blue, Digimon-heavy deck. It also fielded some Digivice cards and Blue Remove cards as well.

Over the course of the Card Battle, Faustein found that Robert did had some heavy hitters, and so, he ended up being the first Card Battle Tamer among the ones Faustein had dueled thus far to top 20 AP AND HP at the SAME time. Consequently, Faustein found that he needed to summon some Champion stage Digimon to stay evenly matched, and at certain points, he had to even play some Assault and Protect Armor cards too. Luckily, he had been making his avatar open every Booster Packs and constantly edit his Deck as and when he had won those Boosters. So, he was at least able to achieve a stalemate by the end of the Card Battle against the NPC “Card Battle Tamer Robert” with Faustein having a slight lead, of course. Thanks to that, he was still able to receive a Booster 04a from “Card Battle Tamer Robert”.
Holy Heisenberg, this one was indeed just as difficult as the last Card Battle. So, is the game software adapting the difficulty level of the “Card Battle Tamers” NPCs in accordance with the strength and versatility of my avatar’s Deck and Folder? How fascinating indeed.
After opening the Booster, Faustein controlled his avatar to continue north past the NPC “Card Battle Tamer Robert” and into the next area. Once he got there, Faustein was alerted to his avatar noticing the usual floating holographic area label in the air, with this one having the text, “East Sector – Protocol Forest” on it. As per usual, Faustein made his avatar look about the area to not only take in the sights and sounds, but also to activate any area-based programming that may have been waiting for him. After that, he made him wander about as well which invited the area’s resident wild Digimon swarms to attack his avatar in a frenzy. The main ones here were of two types, a 30x swarm of Dokugumon and one more such group of wandering Goblimon. The dirt area by the entrance was where the 30x swarm of Dokugumon were hanging out, literally, by spider web ropes attached to the forest canopy. To make things easier on himself and his avatar, Faustein decided to make his avatar stay to the south end of Protocol Forest for the time being. Then, he began making his avatar fight, first taking on the swarm of 30x Dokugumon. At the end of this series, these Dokugumon dropped 30x of an item labeled rather unimaginatively as “Spider Web”. Of course, they also gave Faustein’s avatar 1200 BITS which brought his finances to 3485 BITS and each of his three Digimon received 630 EXP which brought each of them and their Champion stages as well to Lv. 13 since they each possessed 2198 EXP total.
Though this turned out to be the case, Faustein did find that he had to be careful, as Dokugumon's attack did poison his avatar’s Digimon a few times, and the amount of HP they had lost due to this poison each round far exceeded the damage they had taken directly from Dokugumon swarm’s melee attacks. This had necessitated the use of several Power Charges to keep their HP high, but he was careful to carry some Antidote Disks just in case, somehow, he managed to have his avatar’s Digimon survive the onslaught. Fortunately, there was another factor working in his avatar’s favor too. Over the course of the battles, his Patamon’s Champion form which was GuardiAngemon had learned the support ability “Small Heal” which gave each target 100 HP regen/turn. Thus, it was instrumental in his successful destruction of the enemy Dokugumon as it greatly increased the viability of his avatar’s Digimon team as a whole. After defeating this swarm of Dokugumon, Faustein controlled his avatar to move farther in.
At that point, the path was obscured by overhanging trees and here, he found that this subsection was inhabited by groups of 30x Wandering Goblimon. These were slightly easier as they did not have any status effect moves like the Dokugumon from earlier. Still, they managed to dish out quite a bit of damage with their “Gobli Club” melee type attacks, especially since they had attacked in a group. However, due to each of his avatar’s three Digimon now being at Lv. 13, he was able to defeat and destroy them all by the end of these several battles. Once again, as before, Faustein found his avatar’s finances increased by 1350 BITS to 4835 BITS total while each of his avatar’s three Digimon gained 660 EXP total which brought their EXP total to 2858 EXP which bumped each of their basic stages and their respective Champion stage digivolutions up by a couple more levels to Lv. 15. Once all this was done, Faustein was alerted to his avatar noticing some structure which was visible through the gap in the trees. So, he made his avatar investigate it and found that it was labeled as “Protocol Ruins – Entrance”. However, despite his intense curiosity about the place and what potential adventure and research material lay therein, Faustein did realize that his avatar’s digimon were all running rather low on HP, AP, and other such stats. So, he forced his rising curiosity down with a powerful effort of will and instead made him go back to the “East Wire Forest” area since by this point, he did have enough “Spider Web” and was satisfied with the levels and digivolution stage progress of each of his avatar’s three digimon.
