Once back in “East Wire Forest”, Faustein controlled his avatar to head to the Inn there and saved his game progress with the Guardromon NPC and then healed his avatar’s Digimon with the Nurse Gatomon NPC. The latter of the two set his avatar’s finances back once more by another 360 BITS, making his current total to be 4475 BITS. After that, Faustein then made his avatar go back to the big clearing where he had found the ramp and then, he controlled his avatar to take the east path to the next unexplored area, this one being called “East Sector – Divermon’s Lake” from what could be seen on the floating, holographic area label in the air which appeared once his avatar entered the area. As he had before, Faustein made his avatar roam about so that he could take in a panoramic view of the locale and make a mental note of all the sights, sounds, and other things of importance therein. As he did, he noticed that the local swarms of wild Digimon were coming to attack his avatar just as their counterparts in the other wild area sections of the game had before them. Like the other corrupted, anomalous digimon from earlier, these swarms at “East Sector – Divermon’s Lake” were also displaying the same signs, as Faustein could see when he activated the secret program command which he had been using to check the corrupted, anomalous status of Digimon enemies thus far. This time, the swarms were 40x Betamon and 40x Crabmon, but Faustein was not worried as his avatar’s digimon were sufficiently strong by now to handle these enemies, even though they may be real digimon.
It took quite a while to go through all of them, however, since they too appeared in three-unit cells each time just as the other swarms of corrupted, anomalous digimon had before them. However, it was most definitely worth it since Faustein noticed that avatar was richer by 2200 BITS which raised his finances to 6675 BITS while each of his three digimon received 1080 EXP which put each of their cumulative EXP gauges at 3938 EXP in total. That, in turn, meant that each of his three digimon and their digivolutions aka Champion stages were at Lv. 16 now. After this usual grindfest was finished, Faustein controlled his avatar to heal each of his digimon with some of the Power Charges in his inventory. Once that was taken care of, Faustein made his avatar wander south until he came upon a ladder. Naturally, as he was curious about what lay at the bottom, Faustein controlled his avatar to go down it to the lowermost rung. At that stage, he led his avatar to walk over and talk to what seemed like another NPC “Divermon” which he had noticed was floating in the lake. However, there was something wrong with this one as the usual conversation sequence did not trigger when Faustein made his avatar select the “Talk” option once. That meant that this was the kind of NPC the programming for which was activated by selecting the “Talk” option twice instead of the usual once.
So, that was what Faustein made his avatar do, and lo and behold, this time what issued from the NPC “Divermon” were a series of gurgling and choking sounds which made it seem like there was something stuck in his throat and causing him a great deal of pain. So, Faustein led his avatar to follow the sequence of steps indicated by the NPC “Divermon” and ended up pulling out the obstruction, and to his surprise, it was some item labeled as a “Red Snapper on a Hook”.
“Ugh!! Now THAT is a big relief!! I seriously thought I was going to die back there!! Thanks for helping out a mon in need, KuroFaustΩ!!”
The NPC “Divermon” said in a rather loud tone filled so clearly with relief at being saved, but still, the decibel level made Faustein wince since it hurt his keen ears. Then, he studied the next few dialogue options and selected the most natural one to make his avatar say
“So, what is this thing, exactly?”
The NPC “Divermon” responded with a laugh, but obliged him with the answer nevertheless
“That is a “Red Snapper on a Hook” item which is necessary for making top quality fishing rods. By the way, I would like to invite you to come over to Duel Island sometime, where my friends will Card Battle you. We’ve been wanting to hold a tourney for a while now, but we just didn’t have enough players. If you were to take part, however, the player requirement would be fulfilled easily.”
With that the NPC “Divermon” fell silent as its conversation program had finished execution. However, Faustein and his avatar had other business to attend to at present, so he made his avatar decline the offer instead.
Now, I have all three components of the fishing rod. I wonder, should I have my avatar return to Tai Kong Wang at Shell Beach and have him build it?
Faustein mused thus silently, but in the end, he decided against it as he and his avatar had something to do before that visit to the old fisherman. Instead, Faustein controlled his avatar to go back up the ladder and cross the bridge. Then, he made him go south, then west following the path. At the large clearing, he made his avatar cut east again and then take the winding path north, after which, he finally led his avatar jog east at the end to reach the next area which was known as “East Sector – Wind Prairie” from what could be seen on the floating, holographic area label in the air which appeared once his avatar entered the area. Like the other corrupted, anomalous digimon from earlier, these swarms at “East Sector – Wind Prairie” were also displaying the same signs, as Faustein could see when he activated the secret program command which he had been using to check the corrupted, anomalous status of Digimon enemies thus far. This time, the swarms were 40x Yanmamon , but Faustein was not worried as his avatar’s digimon were sufficiently strong by now to handle these enemies as well, even though they may be real digimon.
It almost seems like whatever was controlling that disembodied voice is attempting to wage a war of attrition against me. How irksome indeed, but I suppose it is the logical choice of action. I would have done the same if I were facing a skilled enemy as well, after all.
Faustein grumbled silently thus, but nevertheless, he kept up the grindfest just as he had done so many times before till present. It took quite a while to go through all of them just like with the Betamon and Crabmon from the lake before, however, since they too appeared in three-unit cells each time just as the other swarms of corrupted, anomalous digimon had before them. However, it was most definitely worth it since Faustein noticed that avatar was richer by 1200 BITS which put his avatar’s bank account at 7875 BITS total while each of his avatar’s three digimon had received 640 EXP which put each of their cumulative EXP gauges at 4578EXP in total. That, in turn, meant that each of his three digimon and their digivolutions aka Champion stages were at Lv. 17 now. After this usual grindfest was finished, Faustein controlled his avatar to heal each of his digimon with some of the Power Charges in his inventory. Once that was taken care of, Faustein controlled his avatar to head further in to the area. After some meandering, Faustein was alerted to his avatar noticing an NPC in the middle of the prairie standing by a small rock. This one had the label, “Tamer Akiba” and he had a floating exclamation point hologram over his head. Naturally, as Faustein was curious about what this NPC wanted, so he made his avatar approach him and thus, activated the NPC “Tamer Akiba” and his interaction program

“I am feeling lucky and want to Digimon Battle you, pal! Come on, it’s will be a grand time, so let’s have ourselves a Digimon Battle!!”
Of course, since Faustein was eager to get each his avatar’s three digimon to Lv. 25 which was when they would unlock their Ultimate forms, he made his avatar accept the challenge. This NPC “Tamer Akiba” ended up using a lone Tapirmon which Faustein thought wouldn't be much of a threat. This one, however, wasn't a run-of-the-mill Tapirmon as he soon found out over the course of the Digimon Battle. It had over 300 health and was able to hit each of his avatar’s Champion-level Digimon for 100+ damage a shot. It also had good speed, which allowed it to evade their attacks and even to get two turns in a row on occasion. All that said, it still wasn't much of a fight and Faustein managed to have his avatar beat said Tapirmon in 6 hits by using the finishers from each of his Champion level digimon, twice each. Luckily, however, it was not one of the corrupted, anomalous real digimon on his task would have been far more difficult that it actually was in this battle.
“Darn, I lost that one! You’re really strong, KuroFaustΩ!! However, I did my best so I have no regrets!! Let’s fight again someday and at that time, I won’t lose again!!”
With that, the NPC “Tamer Akiba” fell silent and the usual EXP and BIT gain popup message showed up in the battle summary screen. As would be expected from such a difficult battle, the rewards were considerable in degree, to the tune of 1800 BITS and 1037 EXP. Consequently, his avatar’s finances rose again, this time to 9675 BITS and each of his three digimon’s respective cumulative EXP gauges increased to 5615 EXP total, putting each of them a couple of levels higher, namely at Lv. 19.
After besting the NPC “Tamer Akiba” and gaining the rewards from the battle, Faustein controlled his avatar to continue east to the far end of the Wind Prairie where he managed to find the NPC “Veemon” that he had been looking for all this while. Naturally, Faustein made his avatar approach said Veemon and talk to him to trigger its interaction sequence
“Hey, KuroFaustΩ!! Are you here to play with me too?! I am so excited that I get to play with a new friend!! Now what do you say…”
Of course, Faustein simply wanted the Veemon to give him the “Tree Boots” Key Item, so before the NPC “Veemon” could get carried away, Faustein made his avatar interrupt it
“Listen, I merely want that “Tree Boots” you have with you, okay?”
To that the Veemon replied with a smile and a nod, but imposed a condition
“Oh, okay then! I am fine with giving you a pair, but only if you play with me!!”
Upon hearing that, Faustein mulled the offer over briefly, but could not find any other alternatives, so in the end he made his avatar accept the offer
“I see, as you wish then. I will engage you in whatever game you see fit.”
Veemon fell silent for a few moments, but then piped up with its decision
“Sweet!! I want to play hide-and-seek in the “Kicking Forest” area. If you find me, you'll get the Tree Boots. If you leave the Kicking Forest without finding me, you lose and I will go home to eat, and you will be forced to do this over again. Capiche?”
Then, Faustein was forced to watch a short cutscene wherein the NPC “Veemon” fell silent and ran off into the Kicking Forest, and his avatar counted to ten and followed it. After the cutscene ended, the game gave back control of Faustein’s avatar to him, so Faustein made his avatar enter the new area which was known as “East Sector – Kicking Forest” from what could be seen on the floating, holographic area label in the air which appeared once his avatar was past the entry point by a few paces. Luckily, this time, the wild digimon did not attack immediately as they had done before in other areas.
Interesting, I was expecting my avatar to get mobbed by wild digimon again as has happened before now. Oh well, I suppose I should be grateful for this fortuitous occurrence.
So, while musing thus silently, Faustein took advantage of this lull and used it to have his avatar track down the NPC “Veemon”. Specifically, he just made his avatar run around the first bunch of trees south of the entrance and checked each one as he went by choosing the “Check option which appeared at each tree. It turned out that find the NPC “Veemon” was fairly simple as it was hiding about halfway down the path. After Faustein managed to find it, the NPC “Veemon” took Faustein’s avatar back out to the Wind Prairie and gave him the “Tree Boots” item at last. Before it left, however, it did provide a brief explanation of how to use them
“Here's a quick explanation of how to use the Tree Boots. Go up to a tree and when the “Kick” option pops up before you, select it. Then, a radar will show up and display the distance between you and Cardmon. Keep in mind though, that there is some chance you'll be attacked by a random wild Digimon, such as Woodmon. If the radar's purple, then you’re out of luck and instead will have to battle a random tree-dwelling digimon or a Woodmon. If it's blue, then you're getting closer to the Cardmon. Finally, if it's pink, then you're a tree or two away from a Cardmon.”
After that, the NPC “Veemon” left the scene while remarking about how it will be going home to have a meal. Faustein and his avatar, however, had other things to take care of at this stage. Namely, Faustein wanted to have his avatar try out his new “Tree Boots” item. So, he controlled his avatar to follow the directions and went on a kicking spree, with his targets being the trees all around his avatar, of course. As would be expected from the warning that the NPC “Veemon” had given before leaving, Faustein and his avatar did indeed have more random tree dwelling digimon encounters and Woodmon encounters than they did with their actual target, Cardmon. Specifically, they had to go through 30x Vegiemon, 30x Woodmon, and 30x Yanmamon in between each of the 10x Cardmon over the course of their kicking spree. Of course, even these random wild digimon encounters proved to be lucrative and beneficial in terms of experience gain for their digimon trio since Faustein’s avatar had his finances increase by 5800 BITS to a final grand total of 15, 475 BITS while each of his three digimon, aka Kotemon, Patamon, and Renamon X had their cumulative EXP gauges increase by as much as 2900 EXP for a grand total of 8515 EXP for each of them.
Naturally this gave each of them and their digivolutions aka Champion stages a sizeable boost, though overall, each of them only managed to climb up two levels higher to Lv. 21 due to the ever-increasing difficulty of the EXP gain curve set by the game’s algorithms relevant to digimon growth. Still, they had gotten that much closer to achieving their Ultimate stage forms, so it was a worthwhile effort in the end. More importantly, Faustein’s avatar had managed to get a total of 4x regular Booster 3B packs and even 1x Rare Booster 01 pack from the Cardmon encounters during this kicking spree and these gave him a fair few useful AND powerful cards, so Faustein and his avatar were satisfied by the results.
After the high of their nerding out over the Digimon cards they received from the Boosters had worn off, Faustein finally brought his mind back to the present and refocused it on the next, even more important task. Needless to say, this was the crafting of his new “Perfect Fishing Rod” Key Item which they could do now that they had all the materials in their possession. So, Faustein controlled his avatar to go back to Shell Beach to get that fishing rod built by the NPC “Old Fisherman Tai Kong Wong”. Once there, Faustein made his avatar talk to “Tai Kong Wong”, which activated the NPC’s interaction sequence.
“Very good, sonny! You have all the components necessary for a fishing rod. If you will hand those over to me and then wait a minute, I can make you the best fishing rod ever."
The NPC “Old Fisherman Tai Kong Wong” said and then fell silent, holding his hands out to receive the components. Faustein controlled his avatar to hand over the parts for the “Perfect Fishing Rod” Key Item and then began the wait for the NPC to be done. It took several minutes, but finally, the old man NPC came back with the finished product.

“Hey, nice work, old man! Thank you for making this fishing rod for me!”
Faustein watched his avatar thank the NPC “Old Fisherman Tai Kong Wong” and afterward, said NPC wished his avatar luck and after giving him the “Perfect Fishing Rod” Key Item, he explained how to use it.
“Yer welcome, sonny!! You have to wait for a fishing rod icon to appear over a nearby body of water, and this tells you that you can fish in it. A green and blue horizontal bar will appear with a cursor moving quickly back and forth over it. If you stop the cursor in the blue area by reeling in the fishing line, you'll fish up a Cardmon which as you know, drops a Booster upon defeat.”
He paused there for a moment and then continued explaining the fishing process
“If you stop the cursor in the green area by reeling in the fishing line, you'll fish up a Digimon that differs depending on the area you’re in that time. In the beginning areas you'll likely catch a Coelamon, but that changes in other areas. So, keep this in mind, okay sonny?”
Once he had finished explaining, his programming had terminated his interaction and conversation sequence, so the NPC “Old Fisherman Tai Kong Wong fell silent and went back to his fishing, leaving Faustein and his avatar to their own devices once more. As he had before with the “Tree Boots” Key Item earlier, Faustein controlled his avatar to try out his new “Perfect Fishing Rod” Key Item. He followed the instructions given by the old fisherman NPC and so, went on a fishing frenzy this time. It took a fairly long time and around 40 tries, but finally Faustein was able to make his avatar get the basics of fishing down pat. Like before with the trees and the kicking, 30 out of the 40 tries resulted in him having to fight a Coelamon swarm which finally added up to 30x Coelamon altogether. Thankfully, it was a single Coelamon each time, so despite each one being quite powerful, they ended being fairly manageable with the level of stats each of the three digimon in the team led by Faustein’s avatar. At the end of these 30x Coelamon, Faustein noted that his avatar’s bank balance rose by 3600 BITS to 19,075 BITS while each of his three digimon had their cumulative EXP gauges rise by 2550 EXP to a total of 11, 065 EXP which put each of them a couple of levels higher again at Lv. 23
This is SO rad, yo!! Each of my three digimon are almost Ultimate levels now, just got a couple more levels to go, woohoo!!
Faustein felt these overexcited thoughts of his avatar seep into his mind once again as they had several times before and chuckled at this since he was highly amused by it. However, they had more important things to do, namely checking out the Boosters they won from the 10x Cardmon which they managed to fish up during their fishing frenzy. These had given Faustein’s avatar an additional 1200 BITS which meant that now, his finances were at 20, 275 BITS total while each of his three digimon had received an additional 600 EXP which put their cumulative EXP gauges at 11,665 EXP total. This did not boost their levels, but at the very least, each of them was a few more steps closer to the Lv. 25 milestone at which each would be unlocking its Ultimate stage form. Along with that, Faustein’s avatar had also received 10x Booster 1b which provided him with even more powerful and useful cards for his Deck, though they were a few cuts below those he had gotten from the Rare Booster earlier.
After all of this was done, Faustein made his avatar head back to Asuka City proper where he once again saved his game progress at the Inn with the Guardromon NPC and healed and rested his avatar’s digimon for another 1200 BITS total which set his finances back to 19, 075 BITS once again. Once this was finished, Faustein controlled his avatar to head over to the Leomon Gym which he had seen in the vicinity of Asuka City since he figured it would be best to max out the stats on each of his avatar’s three digimon, at least as far as their current level cap would allow him to do at present time. It did take a while and cost half of his avatar’s total accrued BITS which dropped his finances to 9538 BITS total, but finally it was done. So, Faustein was fairly certain that with the levels of his avatar’s digimon and the maxed-out stats which they had now due to the training, they would be able to handle very nearly any enemy they would be meeting in the near future, at least for a good while. After this, Faustein led his avatar over to the Inn with the Guardromon NPC and the Nurse Gatomon NPC and while there, saved his game progress and healed once again to restore all stats back to full gauge. Then, he made his avatar exit Asuka City and led him over to the “East Sector – Wind Prairie” again.
Upon reaching there, he made his avatar go east until he could see a path leading uphill to the north. Naturally, Faustein controlled his avatar to go up said path and enter the cave which lay at the end of it. After leading his avatar through this cave and out into the territory on the other side, Faustein found that his avatar had finally unlocked an area known as “East Sector – Seiryu City”. This could be seen from the floating, holographic area label which had appeared in the air above and in front of his avatar once he had stepped into the area completely. Ahead of Faustein’s avatar lay a large ramp which seemed to be the only way into “East Sector – Seiryu City”, so naturally, Faustein controlled his avatar to start climbing up the ramp. Partway up the ramp, Faustein and his avatar encountered a guy standing around. This male NPC introduced himself as “Tamer Chris” and then challenged Faustein’s avatar to a Digimon Battle
“Yo!! I have been raring to Digimon Battle a strong opponent. How about you? You look pretty strong, so be a sport and don't disappoint me, mate!!”
He said in what sounded like a typical Aussie accent and that activated the dialogue option screen to show up in front of Faustein’s avatar. Normally, Faustein would find such random opponents too bothersome to bother with, but in this case, he wanted to see just how effective his avatar’s three digimon team was with all the upgrades they had gotten recently. Consequently, he controlled his avatar to pick the “Accept” option and away the two went to their Digimon Battle. The NPC “Tamer Chris” ended up leading off with a very hard to hit Kuwagamon which turned out to be one of those same corrupt anomalous real digimon as the ones he had seen earlier. So, Faustein countered by using his avatar’s Renamon X and her magic techs, but to take out said Kuwagamon, he found that he had to use the Renamon X’s Champion form, aka Kyuubimon. Then, the NPC “Tamer Chris” followed up the Kuwagamon with a Flymon which was pretty quick and was also corrupted and anomalous just like its predecessor. Unfortunately, the Kyuubimon form of the Renamon X held by Faustein’s avatar had low defense despite all of the training he had done with it, so it was hit fairly hard by the Flymon enemy, to the tune of well over 200 damage per hit.
Luckily, it had just enough HP to survive the encounter, so Faustein used his turn to switch out the Kyuubimon X for Kotemon and digivolved it to Dinohyumon in order to defeat the second Digimon, aka Flymon, of the NPC “Tamer Chris”. The last of the three digimon used by the aforementioned NPC was a Yanmamon isn't bad at all. It was also corrupted and anomalous just like its forerunners, but nevertheless, it hit about as hard as Flymon but wasn't quite as fast. As a result, Faustein was able to make his avatar use his Patamon and its Champion form, GuardiAngemon to finish off the Yanmamon and win the match overall. After the win, the game displayed the usual win screen detailing the EXP and BIT gained from the match. This one gave Faustein’s avatar 210 BITS which put his finances at 9748 BITS total, and to each of his three digimon, it granted 130 EXP which put each of their cumulative EXP gauges at 11,925 EXP in total.
“Hey, nicely done, mate!! You really ARE strong!! So, let’s have a rematch sometime!!
With that the interaction sequence ended and so, the NPC “Tamer Chris” fell silent. After defeating him, Faustein made his avatar go into “Zephyr Tower”, the building behind the aforementioned NPC while musing silently
Thankfully, neither that Flymon nor the Yanmamon that followed had an evade rate as high as the Kuwagamon. I am grateful for that, since this match would have ended in a far different manner otherwise.
Once he arrived inside, the usual floating holographic area label appeared, displaying the full name of the structure as “Seiryu City – Zephyr Tower”. After noting that, Faustein had his avatar check out the area map and filed away the locations of all the important locations as well as the general location of “Seiryu City” and that of “Zephyr Tower” in his mental map which he had been constructing thus far. The first stop he had his avatar make after dueling the NPC “Tamer Chris” was the Inn upstairs. Upon arrival, Faustein had his avatar look about for the Nurse Gatomon NPC so he could heal his digimon trio. She charged him 16 BITS per Digimon, but by this point, he had enough cash that this price was not a problem. Afterwards, Faustein had him avatar look about and eventually noticed a Divermon NPC a couple of stalls from the Nurse Gatomon NPC. So, he controlled his avatar to head over and buy some Booster packs from him. Then, since there was nothing else to do on that floor, Faustein made his avatar go back down to ground level where he noticed an Item Shop and Armory. So, he made his avatar visit each one in turn. First, at the Item Shop, he had his avatar restock his inventory with various medical supplies such as “Power Charges” and “Antidote Disks”. Next, at the Armory, he made his avatar trade out the basic, generic type equipment which his three digimon had been using till then with their advanced level counterparts of the same category. All of this cost him half of his cash supply, leaving him with a mere 4834 BITS total, but these purchases were well worth the hefty price as they boosted not only his avatar’s Card Battle capacity, but also his Digimon trio’s battle prowess and viability by a considerable degree.
After everything was set, Faustein controlled his avatar to look about in order to see if there was any NPC that he could interact with at present. There was one such NPC labeled as “Charming Ellie”.
“Oh, where could my dear Marie be right now?! Darn, I am SO worried about her!!
The female NPC kept muttering thus and pacing, but when Faustein’s avatar approached, the usual conversation sequence did not trigger, indicating that this wasn't actually something that he could do anything about at his current stage. Therefore, Faustein merely made his avatar leave “Zephyr Tower” and head out for the time being instead. After traveling straight east for a while, finally Faustein and his avatar unlocked a new area of “Seiryu City”, this one being the “East Sector”. This could be seen from the floating, holographic area label which had appeared in the air above and in front of his avatar once he had stepped into the area completely. Right after entering, Faustein and his avatar encountered another female NPC, this one being labeled “Marie”
Was this the female NPC that other one was talking about? Oh well, she does not look like she has anything to do for me at present, so I will let her alone for now.
Faustein mused silently as he left her to her own devices and instead had his avatar enter the tower structure right next to her. As he entered, the floating, holographic area label which had appeared in the air above and in front of his avatar informed him that the tower was called “ Gale Tower” or more accurately, “Seiryu City – Gale Tower”. However, he was not able to proceed much further due to the giant Airdramon which was lying on the ground, obstructing his path and to all appearances, fast asleep. This was clearly an NPC, but he could not have his avatar interact with it either, so for the time being Faustein decided to just leave it alone. Instead, he controlled his avatar to go back to the main path and continue on his way through town. After what seemed like a while, Faustein and his avatar came upon yet another tower, this one being called “Seiryu City - Seiryu Tower”, as could be seen from the floating, holographic area label which had appeared in the air above and in front of his avatar once more to label the structure. Across from the “Seiryu City - Seiryu Tower” was another female NPC, this one having the label “Sarah”.
“Ohmigosh!! the Seiryu City leader is SO handsome!!”
This female NPC was also rather strange to Faustein as she seemed to be somewhat of a space cadet as was such a person with a spaced-out expression was called in the vernacular. Occasionally, Faustein could hear her muttering about how handsome the Seiryu leader is, but there was nothing else to do with her at the moment. So, Faustein decided to have his avatar enter Seiryu Tower instead. Right after entering, Faustein was alerted to his avatar noticing a Backup Unit Guardromon NPC located a few paces away from the door. So, Faustein controlled his avatar to save his game progress thus far with its help and then continued onward moving him onward. Eventually, he and his avatar came upon a “Digi-Lab Assistant Piximon” NPC. Upon approach, its conversation and interaction sequence triggered as per usual.

“Hey there, KuroFaustΩ. I am Digi-Lab Assistant Piximon at your service. I am a remote access UI terminal for the Digimon Lab back in Asuka City. I can allow you to access the same functions of the Digi-Lab while you’re away from it. These functions include options such as switching Digimon, loading purchased Techs, and checking Digivolution Trees. So, would you like to avail yourself of these at present?”
It asked and then fell silent, causing the drop-down menu with the aforementioned choice to appear in front of Faustein’s avatar. Faustein pondered the issue for a few moments and then turned back to the Piximon NPC while making his avatar choose the option that he wanted currently
“Neato. I would like to check Digivolution Trees.”
The Piximon NPC was silent while processing the input and compiling the data and after a few minutes, it displayed the information in a visual chart form for Faustein’s avatar
Aha, so I really AM on the cusp of achieving Ultimate form for each of my mons. So, Renamon X will become a Taomon X, Patamon will evolve to a MagnaAngemon, and Kotemon will unlock its Paildramon form, huh? Awesome!!
Faustein felt these preprogrammed thoughts of his avatar flow into his mind as they had so many times before and also felt his excitement, just like before. This caused him to smirk in amusement after which he proceeded to analyzing and memorizing the data given to his avatar. After that was done, he made his avatar close the drop-down menu, thus ending the interaction sequence for the Piximon NPC. Then, he made his avatar go up the steps to the landing above. On the balcony Faustein’s avatar found two guys who were apparently working for a rival company of some other company known as MAGAMI Inc. They seemed to be spying on the Digimon Online VRMMORPG. So, he controlled his avatar to go up one more floor. On this upper floor, by a doorway, Faustein’s avatar met a male NPC called “Repeating Tom”. Upon approach, the NPC’s interaction and conversation program triggered as per usual.
“Hey, you know what? Hey, you know what? I heard that the Seiryu Leader is training right now at the Protocol Ruins. That is, if you’re looking for him. That is if you’re looking for him.”
Faustein raised a quizzical eyebrow at hearing this NPC repeat himself while wondering silently
An NPC that repeats himself? How very strange…Could it be a loop bug, perhaps?
He speculated for a little while, but he had no further data on it, so he merely made a mental note of this NPC in his mental dossier of game feedback facts which he was going to report on to his clients for this request. There was nothing yet in the room through the doorway beside the “Repeating Tom” NPC. So, since he had done everything that he could have his avatar do there at the moment, Faustein decided to have him go to “Protocol Ruins” to track down the Seiryu leader. With that in mind, he made his avatar exit the Seiryu Tower and then head out toward the Protocol Ruins. Along the way, he found a signpost to guide him which informed him that he could have his avatar get there from the “East Sector - Protocol Forest”, an area he had visited before in the game, only this time he was accessing it from the other side which lay near Seiryu City.
Holy Heisenberg, this forest looks just as troublesome from this side. What a drag
Faustein lamented for a few moments before focusing his mind on the task at hand. He then made his avatar go up the trail and then turn east into the woods. To his chagrin, Faustein found that he had to have his avatar navigate the woods and come out the other side to get their destination, aka “East Sector – Protocol Ruins”. The problem was that he couldn't see the path because it was covered by the trees on this side as well. Consequently, the only thing he could have his avatar do was run around trying to find his way first northeast to the greener section of forest, and then back west and slightly north to get out of it altogether. It took several hours since the forest was so bewilderingly labyrinthine, but finally he did manage to have his avatar reach the other side of the forest successfully. Once there, Faustein and his avatar found themselves on a stone path staring at what looks like the base of a black obelisk. There was only one path beyond it, so Faustein controlled his avatar to cut north, go up the steps, and at the end of that flight of steps, he could finally enter the “East Sector - Protocol Ruins”. Luckily, there were no wild digimon attacks made on his avatar during this aforementioned sojourn through the forest, so his avatar’s digimon were still at full HP and AP.
Is this avatar truly ready for a dungeon crawl? Oh well, it remains to be seen, I suppose.
Naturally, since it was a dungeon, the “East Sector – Protocol Ruins” turned out to be quite difficult. Every level was practically crawling with wild Minotarumon, and they were able to hit pretty hard so Faustein found that he had to deploy his avatar’s three digimon team with utmost care. After the initial wave, Faustein made his avatar go east and follow the path. Thankfully, it didn't branch off, so he did not get lost along the way. After traveling in for a while, Faustein saw his avatar come to a set of stairs. Naturally, he made his avatar take said stairs to the first landing above. There was another set that led up to an ancient Egyptian style tomb and sarcophagus which contained a Pharaohmon which was apparently the boss monster for the “Protocol Ruins” as Faustein could deduce from the holographic label which had appeared floating in the air above the boss digimon with the information “WARNING!! PHARAOHMON BOSS BATTLE IMMINENT!!” displayed on a police tape like background. Regardless, Faustein was undaunted and made his avatar go up and talk to him in order to activate the impending boss battle
“I, Pharaohmon, have sworn an oath never to lose to any opponent!! Behold my almighty power, puny mortal!!”

This derisive speech only seemed to excite and incite his avatar more and Faustein could feel his eagerness to battle, defeat, and destroy the Pharaohmon boss grow still further. Thus, the boss fight against the Pharaohmon began in earnest.
Pharaohmon, as it turned out, wasn't too tough despite his apparently illustrious background. He could only hit for a bit over 100 damage per strike, but what Faustein found to really be the thing he had to have his avatar watch out for was his Necro Mist attack. It did damage AND poisoned his digimon several times. As a result, during this battle each of his digimon lost more hit points to poison than to Pharaohmon's physical attacks. In order to maximize his chances of success, Faustein decided to have his avatar lead off with a hard-hitting Digimon which also had decent defense. So, Kotemon was really the only option in this case, so he positioned it as the leader with Patamon and Renamon X as rear guards. Thanks to the upgrades they had received, however, Faustein found that he only really needed to digivolve the Kotemon to a Dinohyumon which was a Champion-level Digimon to take out the Pharaohmon. That said, this fight did cost Faustein’s avatar half of the “Antidote Disk” status cure items in his inventory, but in the end, it was well worth it since this allowed his digimon to stay in the fight and eventually defeat the Pharaohmon.
After the battle, Faustein found that Pharaohmon gave his avatar an equipment item called the “Old Wand” which seemed to be some kind of crafting material, so Faustein left that alone and just had his avatar stow it away in his inventory for the time being. Along with that, this victory granted 2400 BITS to his avatar and 1200 EXP due to the level difference between his three digimon which were all Champion stage and the Pharaohmon which was a Mega level. Thanks to this encounter, Faustein’s avatar had his finances increase to 7234 BITS while his digimon each had its cumulative EXP gauges rise to 13,125 EXP which put each of them at Lv. 24 effectively and very nearly at Lv. 25 as well. After beating down Pharaohmon, Faustein made his avatar go back down to the landing below, then turn east, and finally dropped him off to the path below. Once he regained his bearings, Faustein controlled his avatar to go north through the doorway and wrap around to the west to come out from the other side. Fortunately for him and his avatar, the Seiryu Leader NPC they had been looking for all this while was in the open area just south of the doorway, with some Digimon. So, since he did not want to waste any time, Faustein immediately made his avatar go and talk to the Seiryu Leader NPC to activate his interaction and conversation sequence
“I don't fight the weak. If you really want to battle me, you'll have to defeat MasterTyrannomon in Tyranno Valley first. Come back to Seiryu City after that and then, I will fight with you.”
The Seiryu Leader NPC said in an arrogant tone while rejecting Faustein’s challenge in this initial attempt. So Faustein had his avatar ask the next logical question
“So how exactly do I get there?”
To that, the Seiryu leader replied, giving directions on how to go there
“The entrance is in the Kicking Forest. You had better be prepared though, as that place eats weaklings alive.”
Thus, the conversation and interaction sequence for this NPC ended, so then Faustein controlled his avatar to start making his way out of the “Protocol Ruins”. He found that getting out was much easier than actually finding the place. All he had to make his avatar do to get out of the Protocol Ruins was jump off the ledge to the south and then go east and south. However, before heading to the “Kicking Forest”, he figured that stopping by “Seiryu City” on the way to “Tyranno Valley” via the “Kicking Forest” for a quick rest and game-saving session would probably be a good idea. So that’s exactly what he controlled his avatar to do next. After that, he made his avatar head off to the “East Sector - Kicking Forest” area. Once there, Faustein found that all he had to make his avatar do was just follow the northern cliffs to the east until he found a ladder. Then, he controlled his avatar to climb up it and continue east. After that, he made his avatar climb the next ladder he found, and then, finally he made him go north to finally enter into “Tyranno Valley”.
Let’s see here, Renamon X has Ice based techs now, so maybe it could be a good idea to let her lead the charge by being the vanguard in the battles to follow.
Faustein mused silently and then followed through on that thought by having his avatar rotate his Digimon until his Renamon X was in the vanguard slot. Then, he resumed making his avatar proceed through Tyranno Valley by going north and then leading him to climb the ladder at the end of that path. At the top of the ledge, there was a ladder leading up, so he made his avatar take this northward ladder again. Afterward, he had to make his avatar go west, then north across a wooden bridge, west across another wooden bridge, and then finally wind his way north and east along the path until he reached one final ladder. Naturally, he made his avatar climb this one as well and once he reached the top, he could see the “MasterTyrannomon” NPC sitting on a throne. So, Faustein controlled his avatar to go and talk to it in order to challenge it, and the line he had his avatar pick to say was the one he thought was most amusing
“Alright, granny!! Get off your rocking chair and come fight me!!”
Needless to say, this incensed the “MasterTyrannomon” NPC and began the interaction and conversation sequence
“How dare you insult me like that, punk?! Fine, then!! I’ll stomp you till you’re as flat as a pancake!! Ready or not, here I come!!”
Just like that, the battle against the “MasterTyrannomon” NPC commenced in earnest, preceded by the usual boss battle warning of “WARNING!! MASTERTYRANNOMON BOSS BATTLE IMMINENT!!” displayed on a police tape like background, of course. This battle against the “MasterTyrannomon” NPC turned out to be a good old-fashioned slugging match as it would be called in the vernacular.

That was because throughout the battle that ensued, the “MasterTyrannomon” NPC used physical attacks mostly while it fired off its “Master Fire”, a Fire-based special technique only occasionally. The problem was, however, that he did more damage per round than all three of the digimon team led by Faustein’s avatar were able to do combined per combat round. Thankfully, Faustein had been sure to max out all the stats on each of the three digimon of his avatar’s team earlier at the Gym, so their high defense and fire tolerance proved to be definite bonuses in this fight. That said, Faustein still found it necessary to have his avatar slow down use a few “Spider Web” items from the ones he had remaining in his avatar’s inventory to slow him down a bit. Mostly, it was able to stop it from getting multiple attacks in a row, though occasionally, it also did give his avatar’s digimon a double attack per combat round. The constant throughout the battle was that Faustein had to make his avatar use the Champion-level forms of his three digimon and plenty of healing items to wear down and finally defeat the “MasterTyrannomon” NPC.
After Faustein’s avatar defeated it, not only did MasterTyrannomon compliment him on the prowess of his three digimon, but it also gave him the “Old Claw” item to serve as proof of his victory. Like the “Old Wand” equipment crafting material item from earlier, the “Old Claw” item wasn't a readymade weapon, but rather it was yet another equipment crafting material item for future use. So, Faustein decided to have his avatar keep it around in his inventory. Apart from that, his avatar and digimon trio also did receive the usual boss level EXP and BITS rewards too, these being 1400 EXP and 2800 BITS for the currently finished fight. Consequently, Faustein found that his avatar’s finances had risen to 10,034 BITS in total and each of his digimon now had cumulative EXP gauges which clocked in at 14, 525 EXP total, which in turn meant that each had now unlocked their Ultimate level forms, namely Paildramon for Kotemon, MagnaAngemon for Patamon, and Taomon X for the Renamon X. Needless to say, the Taomon X was by far the strongest of the lot. Then, he made his avatar go all the back to the entrance to “Tyranno Valley” and made sure to have his avatar get a “TNT Ball item from a wandering “Triceramon” NPC which he and his avatar had come upon on their way out.
Now, it is time to head back to Seiryu City and have that boss battle with the Seiryu Leader NPC at last.
So, that was what Faustein did in the end. After reaching “Seiryu City” once more, he controlled his avatar to make sure his Digimon were well-rested and their game progress was saved before going to confront the Seiryu Leader NPC in battle. It took a short while due to all the data, but finally, Faustein and his avatar were all set to face him. So, Faustein made his avatar climb the stairs in “Seiryu Tower” and go through the south door on the top floor. Upon reaching there, Faustein was alerted to his avatar noticing that the Seiryu Leader was alone on the balcony. Therefore, Faustein directed his avatar to head over to the Seiryu Leader NPC and trigger his conversation and interaction program.
“Ah, so you have returned, eh? Well then, show me proof of your victory, challenger KuroFaustΩ.”
As per the request, Faustein controlled his avatar to show the Seiryu Leader NPC the Old Claw that he had procured from MasterTyrannomon NPC after defeating it. In response, the Seiryu Leader NPC smirked while remarking
“So then, it would seem that you DO have some fighting prowess after all. Very well then, challenger KuroFaustΩ. You shall have your battle request granted to you.’
With that, the battle was joined at last, this one having higher stakes than any that came before it till that point.

The first of the Seiryu Leader NPC’s digimon was a Minotarumon. Of course, this Minotarumon was just a higher-powered version of the ones that Faustein and his avatar had fought in the Protocol Ruins earlier. It had around 500 HP, but didn't hit that hard with any of its attacks. Therefore, Faustein was able to control his avatar to defeat it by sending out his Kotemon and evolving it into Paildramon, the Ultimate form he had chosen for it. The next digimon which was send out by the Seiryu Leader NPC was a Tyrannomon. His Tyrannomon had around 600 HP and seemed to prefer to swing its tail as a melee attack fairly often. Its special attack was fire-based, so the Fire tolerance which Faustein had been careful enough to develop on each of his avatar’s digimon proved to be a big plus just as it was with MasterTyrannomon earlier. Because this Tyrannomon’s special attack had an elemental property to it, it actually ended up hurting the Renamon X which Faustein had his avatar send out less than its predecessor, the Minotarumon had damaged his Kotemon. Per round, the Seiryu Leader’s Tyrannomon inflicted around 120 damage per hit to the Renamon X that Faustein had his avatar send out against it. As he had before, Faustein made his avatar digivolve the Renamon X into its chosen Ultimate form, Taomon X and after a while, managed to take out the Tyrannomon through the use of its series of ice element moves. Naturally, this was his choice since he knew from his encounters with other Tyrannomon in the true Digital World that it would be weak to the ice element.
Then, the Seiryu Leader's final Digimon was Apemon. This Apemon’s attacks were far more powerful than both the Tyrannomon and the Minotarumon which were its forerunners. It was also pretty quick on its toes, which translated into it periodically getting two attacks in quick serial succession on the Taomon X which Faustein’s avatar had out at this point. Thankfully, however, it was vulnerable to fire, so this worked to Faustein’s advantage. As a result, he decided to send out his avatar’s Patamon and evolved it into its Ultimate form of choice, MagnaAngemon. Then, he directed his avatar to use a few of the remaining “Spider Web” items in his inventory to slow the Apemon down. After that, he controlled his avatar to go on the offensive and over the course of this final fight, after he realized that the Apemon was vulnerable to fire-based moves, he was able to capitalize on that by focusing almost exclusively on the MagnaAngemon’s fire element attacks. Thus, he was able to finally achieve victory against the Seiryu Leader NPC at which point, the title match was over at last. This title match boosted Faustein’s avatar’s bank account contents by a total of 4750 BITS.
Meanwhile his digimon had each received 1760 EXP so now, Faustein’s avatar had a grand total 14, 784 BITS. Of course, each of his three digimon now had their cumulative EXP gauges at 16,285 EXP which put each of them at Lv.26. Afterwards, the Seiryu Leader NPC congratulated him on his victory. Then, the Seiryu Leader NPC gave Faustein’s avatar the “Seiryu Badge” and “Silver Ticket” Key Items. Then, he proceeded to explain their effects
“Well done, challenger KuroFaustΩ. Now, this Seiryu Badge is just one of those things that are necessary to progress through the game, and the Silver Ticket lets you train a higher range of stats and other various Tolerances besides just Fire at the Gyms henceforth.”
Needless to say, Faustein’s avatar was incredibly excited and even did a little victory dance upon hearing that
Sweetness!! This is SO rad!! Now I can go make my three digimon even MORE powerful!!
Thus, these preprogrammed thoughts of his seeped into Faustein’s mind as they had done several times before
This one is as excitable as ever, eh? How amusing…
Faustein thought silently as he waited for the cutscene to end and after that, the Seiryu Leader NPC wished them luck
“Well, that’s that. Good luck, challenger KuroFaustΩ. I can see great potential in you, and so I suggest that you go and visit Suzaku City in the South Sector if you wish to continue gaining strength and experience.”
After this, since his conversation and interaction sequence were over, the Seiryu Leader NPC fell silent, leaving Faustein and his avatar to their own devices. So, Faustein controlled his avatar to begin heading out. Before he could have his avatar step out, the kid NPC who was by the door to the balcony in Seiryu Tower stopped his avatar
“Hey!! Nicely done, champ! I guess you want to go to the South Sector now, eh? Well then, use the gondola at East Station to get there.”
Then, this NPC fell silent and let Faustein have his avatar head out of “Seiryu Tower”. Of course, before he truly left, Faustein was sure to have his avatar take the obligatory rest and save break to ensure that his digimon were all fully healed and their other stats were also back to their current max capacity. After exiting “Seiryu Tower”, Faustein decided it would be best to visit “Asuka City” once more as he now had a fair amount of BITS to spare and could afford to go on a brief shopping spree to upgrade the equipment on each of his avatar’s three digimon to the next higher level of generic equipment.

Once he was out in the streets, Faustein was alerted to his avatar noticing the usual floating hologram in the air, only this time it displayed the words “CHAPTER ONE AND TWO: COMPLETE. NOW LOADING CHAPTER THREE.”
Just two completed thus far, eh? Oh well, slow and steady wins the race, I guess. I wonder how much more effort the rest of the game will demand of me?
With that thought swirling about in his mind, Faustein had his avatar exit “Seiryu City”. As he and his avatar came out of Seiryu City, they were met by “Teddy”, the male NPC friend of Faustein’s avatar, whom they had not seen since the beginning of the game. “Teddy” seemed to be terribly excited about some really momentous news as was apparent from the loudness and hyper-enthusiastic tone of his voice
“Hey, KuroFaustΩ!! Nice to see you again, buddy!! It’s been ages since we entered the game, eh?! Guess what?! Lucky Mouse, the genius hacker, has appeared at last!! Word on the street is that he can hack into ANY program, computer, or network in the ENTIRE world!! I am just DYING to meet him!!”
Faustein winced internally as his ears were practically ringing from the decibel level of Teddy’s voice while his avatar was clearly amused by his friend’s excited state. Following Teddy's news, the whole environment in the vicinity turned glitchy for a few brief moments after which, Faustein felt a sudden, unexpected jolt of searing pain, as though his avatar had been electrocuted by a lightning strike. Of course, no such thing happened at all. Shortly afterwards, an announcement came across the server, appearing in the air as one of those floating holograms with a police tape background to it
“ATTENTION ALL USERS!! DUE TO AN UNEXPECTED TECHNICAL MALFUNCTION IN THE DIGIMON ONLINE VRMMORPG, EMERGENCY MAINTENANCE IS NOW BEING PERFORMED BY THE IT STAFF. CONSEQUENTLY, PLAYERS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RETURN TO THE REAL WORLD UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. HOWEVER, MAGAMI INC. WILL NOT CHARGE PLAYERS DURING THIS TIME, SO YOU SHALL ALL BE ALLOWED TO PLAY COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND OUR SINCERE APOLOGIES FOR THIS INCONVENIENCE.”
Teddy listened to this announcement and exclaimed even more loudly and with even greater excitement, if that was possible
“I am sure that Lucky Mouse had something to do with that announcement!! I will go and check it out!! Smell ya later, KuroFaustΩ!!”
At that point, Teddy ran off to find this “Lucky Mouse” NPC, but Faustein saw something even more ominous, as his whole field of view which he had been accessing through his avatar’s eyes had turned jet-black. After this, a strange digital noise like sound started to issue forth all around him which then led to a hazy figure appearing before him that eventually took a vaguely humanoid shape. A strange, yet somehow familiar clicking sound was coming from it.
“So, you intend to persist in your opposition of me, eh? Well then, this is the beginning of the end for you, pathetic human!! Remember my name, “Lucky Mouse”. I shall trap you here within this game henceforth and ultimately destroy you permanently!!”
A series of further clicking noises issued from the figure, but Faustein and his avatar both blacked out at this point and so, Faustein did not experience any from the figure and would not remember this encounter later on. After several hours had passed, Faustein had finally come to and his world was filled with color once more, but he could only see a sliver of it due to his currently heavy-lidded eyes and disoriented mindset
Holy Heisenberg, what in the world happened back then? My…memory, I cannot seem to remember the details
Faustein thought silently, slowly trying to reboot his mind and thoughts, but was facing some rather heavy resistance to this attempt. Each time he attempted to recover his memories, a searing jolt of excruciating pain coursed through him and thus inhibited him from making much progress. It was then that he noticed the beginnings of his strange new situation
…ster!! Master!!...wrong?!...pen your eyes!!...lease, come back to me!!
A familiar voice was apparently calling to him, and the panic and worry was evident in the voice.
A female? Who or what could this be, I wonder? I do not remember making any such alliances with this voice.
The feminine voice was somehow familiar despite his inability to associate it with any known memories. In response to his continued unresponsiveness, the voice appeared to increase in volume and urgency
MASTER!! WHAT’S WRONG?! PLEASE, OPEN YOUR EYES AND LOOK AT ME!!
At this stimulus, Faustein’s eyes finally flew wide open and a rather vulpine countenance greeted his crimson red gaze, this visage being that of his avatar’s Renamon X, the only real digimon among the pack of three he had with him. Needless to say, Faustein was taken aback by this and pulled himself up to a sitting position gingerly and quite groggily. The first thing he noted as being amiss was the apparent absence of his avatar and his avatar’s thoughts which he had gotten used to seeing and experiencing all this while as a spectator. So, he began turning his head this way and that and also moving each part of his body and inspecting every system in an effort to systematically determine what if anything was wrong.

Sensory input checks out…movement systems all green…cognition currently in recovery…emulation seemingly normal…pain simulation detected…wait, pain simulation? Why would I, the spectator, be feeling my avatar’s pain? This is inexplicable indeed. For that matter, where IS my avatar anyway?
He could feel his thought process speed up considerably as this maelstrom of neural impulses swirled in his mind and brain. Then, it happened at last; as he was moving his head about, he noticed the sight of what seemed to be his avatar’s hand. However, when he attempted to raise it, he could only see the hand and not the rest of the avatar’s body.
Strange, this seems almost like an FPS-style perspective. I was under the notion that the game was done in third person POV since that’s what I have been experiencing till now. So then, is this another of those bugs or glitches in the game? Like those seemingly real digimon from before?
Faustein muttered to himself, attempting to compile a series of hypotheses and theories which could potentially explain his present condition. As he looked about, the fact that his perspective had been permanently changed from third person to first person became more and more apparent. It was finally confirmed when he went over to a nearby pond and looked at his reflection and saw himself as he looked and dressed in the real world instead of his avatar’s form and attire which he remembered as being far different from his own. Then, he opened the standard UI which was provided to all player characters in game and which he had been using via his avatar till the present moment. As he scrolled through and opened and closed the various tabs, menus, and sub-menus therein, he noticed that the logout button which had been present at the very bottom of the Profile and Settings menu was nowhere to be seen.
I see, so that’s it. That explains the FPS-style POV and why I am not able to see my avatar anymore, as well as why I can feel pain on a personal level and lastly, why I saw my IRL form when I examined my reflection in the water just now.
He muttered further to himself, and then turned to the Renamon X which was standing beside him, waiting patiently for him to reveal the truth about his present condition, speaking in hushed tones
It would seem that both you and I have been trapped in this game for the foreseeable future by some as yet unknown force or person, though to what end, I cannot yet say for I do not possess any data which would elucidate the reason behind this occurrence. Therefore, it would behoove us to be very careful henceforth, as we may find that grave or otherwise mortal injuries which we may sustain in battle actually can lead to our untimely demise.
The Renamon X was now calmer than she had been before and so, replied in a far more even, cool-headed manner and in a somber, serious tone which was unlike her usual playful manner
I see, so it is as I surmised then. Very well, Master, with your permission, I shall attempt to do my utmost to defend both of our lives both in and out of battle henceforth.
With that she fell silent and both of them walked back to where his two other digimon, Kotemon and Patamon were waiting for them on standby mode. Upon reaching them, he went into his UI and then reactivated their NPC programming which had, for some strange reason, been deactivated forcefully. After that, Faustein and his three digimon made their way back to “Asuka City”, this time being far slower and more careful than ever before to avoid unnecessary battles, whether with NPC Tamers or wild digimon. After what seemed like several hours of ceaseless walking which had very nearly tired Faustein out since he was more of a brainiac nerd than a bodybuilding athletic jock, the group finally managed to make it all the way back to the “Asuka City – Central Sector” area.
Despite the troubling implications of his currently in game trapped state, Faustein found that, though his stamina was the same as it was in the IRL world, his mental capacity and other associated functions were greatly boosted in operational efficiency since he was interacting directly with the game’s programming instead of via an avatar intermediary. Likewise, the game’s response time had also seen a manifold increase, as far as he could tell anyway. So, he couldn’t really complain about that part at least. Once he and his digimon trio reached back to Asuka City, Faustein headed on over to the “El Dorado” facility. Then, he went down the stairs and through the doorway, then passed through the underwater tunnel to the “Cargo Tower” area. Upon reaching there, he noticed that an auction was going on, and that he was just in time for the main item. Said item was apparently some digimon specific equipment item called the “Divine Barrier”. This was a Patamon-exclusive shield that, according to the NPCs there, could only be obtained at this particular auction at the “El Dorado” facility. After the NPCs placed their bids, then one of the special NPC organizers of the auction came up to him and asked
“Good evening, user KuroFaustΩ. Would you like to bid 800 BITS for this item? I promise it is well worth the hefty price.”
Needless to say, since he was curious about the item’s effects and because he had plenty of spare BITS to spend, he agreed to the special NPC’s offer
“YES!! I HEREBY BID 800, NO, MAKE THAT 1800 BITS FOR THIS ITEM!!”
He proclaimed loudly, as per the rules of the auction even though he personally thought that was rather unnecessary to raise his voice that high. The whole audience went deathly silent and every head there turned around to look at him as though he were insane. The special NPC which was still standing before him was also staring at him, mouth agape.
“What’s the matter? That is surely not too much to spend, is it? It is a mere pittance for me.”
The special NPC started sweating bullets now, but after a while seemingly recovered and rushed off to the podium where the auctioneer was current standing and displaying the item. They started to whisper heatedly and after a few more minutes passed, the auctioneer announced the results
“GOING ONCE!!...GOING TWICE!!...SOLD!! THE “DIVINE BARRIER” IS HEREBY SOLD TO USER KUROFAUSTΩ SINCE THERE ARE NO HIGHER BIDDERS!!”

Then, the special NPC which had been conversing with him and invited him to join the auction carried the shield over to him carefully and gingerly and presented it to him. Faustein placed his right hand on the shield which seemed to shrink the shield, dematerialize it, and then store in his inventory with the rest of his equipment. The special NPC then thanked him while shaking his hand profusely
“Thank you very much, KuroFaustΩ!! Your contribution is much appreciated!! There are more auctions throughout this season and all of them are held right there, so returning regularly is a good idea.”
The special NPC told Faustein and then fell silent since his interaction sequence and conversation sequences were over at that point. Then, after the special NPC left, Faustein opened his inventory menu and equipped the “Divine Barrier” shield to his Patamon. After that, he and his three digimon exited the “El Dorado” facility and went over to the “Asuka City Streets” area since there was nothing more he could have accomplished there at his current level. On the way there, he noticed that two more areas had opened up at his destination, namely the “Heavy Armory” and the “Black Market”. So, he and his digimon hurried their pace along and soon reached there. Then, he along with his digimon trio found that, to access these two areas, they had to go into “Smith's Shop” first. However, Faustein had to flash his “El Dorado ID” item at the kid by “Gargomon” NPC’s counter to get past him.
Then, Faustein went straight out the back door and realized that it led to the “Heavy Armory”. He entered and then spent over half of his remaining BITS on a full outfitting for each of his three digimon, this time the equipment being the next higher level above Advanced, aka Heavy-type and all of them specific to each of his three digimon. This expense along with the 1800 BITS he had spent on the special shield piece from earlier, left him with a meager 4984 BITS remaining in his finances. Then, he and his now fully equipped digimon came back inside and then went up the ladder and out the back up there. This put them in front of the “Black Market” where they found that they could get “Super Charges” which were 2000 HP worth healing items which were being sold for 400 BITS each. So, Faustein spent 4000 BITS and bought a 10x set of “Super Charges” which were then stored in the “Medicines” section.
With that, Faustein accomplished everything that was possible in that area, so he and his three digimon went over to train up some tolerances at “Leomon's Gym” since that was an option now that he had the “Silver Ticket” Key item. However, due to his massive expenditure earlier, he only had 984 BITS remaining. That in turn limited him to the most basic level of the Advanced Elemental Tolerance training and Advanced Stat training
Oh well, at least something is better than nothing. Hopefully, this will be enough to deal with whatever enemies will show up in my path going forward.
Now that he and his digimon had gotten some training in, he took them over to the Inn and after the usual rest and save break which cost him the remaining BITS in his bank account, he was ready to proceed with the next few parts of the game plot. Unfortunately, he would need to go grinding again since he was bankrupt now. So, he and his three digimon started to head on over to the “Kicking Forest” area. Once there, he looked over the map which informed him that, to get to “East Station”, he and his digimon had to go east from the forest entrance. After a while, they reached what seemed to be a large, placid lake. At the lake, they had to cut south to the metal bridge, cross it, and then follow the trail east once more. There was a fork in the path just after it curved south. Then, he and his digimon continued south along the path, following it as it wound back west, but ignored the ladder down that they saw as they passed by the area. Finally, they had to cross a wooden bridge and then entered the “East Station” area. As he and his digimon ascended the stairs which led up into the facility, he could see an NPC who had the usual floating exclamation mark icon overhead, indicating that the interaction and conversation program was now active. So, Faustein went over to said NPC which turned out to be a female one.
“Hi there! I am Tamer Tomomi! I am having trouble deciding whether or not I should go on my upcoming date. So, to clear my head, let’s have a Digimon Battle!”
Faustein could not see any “Refuse” option, so he accepted the challenge and then the battle began between the two. This “Tamer Tomomi” turned out to have a team that consisted of a Betamon which was the starter, a Kiwimon after that, and RedVegiemon brought up the rear since it was apparently her strongest. Thanks to all the equipment upgrades as well as the Advanced Tolerance and Advanced Stat training that Faustein had put his three digimon through at “Leomon’s Gym” earlier, none of her three digimon proved to be a true challenge. Thus, Faustein proceeded to win the Digimon Battle against her which led to his finances increasing from 0 to 2250 BITS. Meanwhile, each of his three digimon gained a total of 1000 EXP which put their respective cumulative EXP gauges at 17,285 EXP as a grand total. Sadly, they did not go up even one level, but then they were rather advanced by this stage so Faustein realized that it would only make sense considering how the growth curve was becoming ever more difficult as time went on.
“Perhaps I won’t go on that date after all…”
The NPC “Tamer Tomomi” mused aloud and started to murmur further to herself, so Faustein left her alone and instead, approached the console to the south. Strangely, he saw none of the usual service staff there which made him wonder
“Where is every one of the usual staff who are supposed to be stationed at such areas?
Then, he examined the system closer in order to figure out the reason for the absence of operational staff. It turned out that the system was completely automated, and he realized that he would need what was apparently called a “Blue Card” to ride the gondola. This seems to be the only way to the South Sector area. So, I need to find a digimon that has been born from a Blue Card, eh? Methinks that sounds a lot like a Guilmon. Wasn’t there that one Guilmon in Asuka City? I will probably need to go and talk to it.
With that thought in mind, Faustein and his three digimon headed over to the “Central Sector – Asuka Bridge” area which they had visited before. As they approached the gates to the main “Asuka City” area, Faustein was stopped by a “Mystery Player” NPC.
“Yo, my name is Keith, and you'd better remember my name, n00b. I’m going to win the tournament which is coming up soon. For now, though, I want to battle with you.”
Once again, Faustein found that he had absolutely no choice in this Digimon Battle and so was forced to accept it. As the battle began, Faustein found that Keith's first Digimon, a Triceramon, was fairly strong. Fortunately, it was his most powerful Digimon and neither of the other two he had on his team even came close it in any regard. This Triceramon was an Earth element digimon, so Faustein sent out his Patamon and evolved it into a MagnaAngemon which then used its wind-based moves to utterly defeat it, especially due to the considerable level difference between the two. Keith then pulled his knocked out Triceramon back and then sent out his second digimon which was a measly little Kunemon. Needless to say, since Faustein knew that the Kunemon was weak to fire element moves, he proceeded to swap out his MagnaAngemon/Patamon for his Kotemon. He then directed it to evolve into Paildramon which promptly took out the Kunemon with its fire-based moves. Finally, Keith brought out a Kuwagamon and in response, Faustein sent out his most powerful digimon, aka Renamon X. He evolved her into Taomon X and then she used her “Talisman of Light” move to finish off Keith’s Kuwagamon. This battle gave each of Faustein’s digimon 1920 EXP which finally raised each of them to Lv. 27 since it boosted their respective cumulative EXP gauges to 19, 205 EXP. At the same time, Faustein found that his finances increased again, this time by 3000 BITS to a grand total of 5250 BITS.
However, it seemed that the “Mystery Player Keith” NPC was not quite a graceful loser since Faustein heard him exclaim after the match
“Bah!! You only won because I was going easy on you, dang n00b!!
Then, Keith left the scene and Faustein was free to continue on into the main “Asuka City” area. While he and his digimon were there, he decided to go talk to the “Tamer Genji” NPC.
“Hey there, you look like you’re doing well, KuroFaustΩ!! Good for you!! I want to see just how far you've come till now. So then, how’s about we have ourselves a rematch?!”
This conversation then led to yet another Digimon Battle between Faustein and the “Tamer Genji” NPC. For this rematch, Genji led off with his Kuwagamon, which Faustein used his Kotemon to promptly smite by evolving said Kotemon to its Ultimate form, Paildramon. After his first Kuwagamon went down, Genji follow it up with another Kuwagamon, this one being a bluish-green color. Fortunately, this second Kuwagamon was dispatched almost as easily as the first. For this one, Faustein sent out his Renamon X and evolved her into her Ultimate form, aka Taomon X after which he directed her to use her “Thousand Spells” explosive-type attack to defeat the aforementioned second Kuwagamon. Needless to say, that was the end of the battle and at point, the usual battle summary screen showed up and displayed the rewards information. Each of Faustein’s three digimon received 630 EXP which put their respective cumulative EXP gauges at a grand total of 19,835 EXP while also giving his finances a small boost to the tune of 1150 BITS, leaving them at a max of 6400 BITS. Overall, this was an easy battle given the reward for it.
After this, Faustein and his three digimon proceeded to the lower level of the “Asuka City” area where they had found the “Guilmon” NPC before, but this time, it was not there. Naturally, Faustein and his digimon scoured the entire area for said Guilmon NPC and finally found it at the Inn, on the second floor in one of the top bunks. Upon activating its conversation and interaction sequence, the Guilmon informed Faustein
“I don't have the Blue Card, but my cousin does, and he's on his way to Seiryu City right now. By the way, my cousin is fairly hungry, so he may stop somewhere to eat first.”
Faustein frowned as he realized that he had to physically make the trek along with his three digimon all the way back to Seiryu City. Sadly, he had no choice in the matter, so he begrudgingly headed out as quickly as he could at his current level. On the way, though, He did take a peek inside the one place to stop and rest between Asuka and Seiryu City, namely the Inn in the “East Wire Forest”. While there, he let his three digimon rest and recover with the help of the “Nurse Gatomon” NPC for a hefty 3000 BITS total, leaving his finances at 3400 BITS. However, it was well worth it since now all of their stats were back to full capacity. Then, he saved his game progress thus far with the “Data Backup Unit Guardromon” NPC after which he decided to check upstairs on a whim. He did find a Guilmon NPC, but this one did not have the “Blue Card” item either. However, it did inform him that the one which did have it was in “Seiryu City” right now. So, he headed out once more on his way to “Seiryu City”.
This time, thanks to his direct connection to the game software, it did not take as much time to get back to “Seiryu City”. Once there, Faustein searched all over until finally, he found a Guilmon at the “Zephyr Tower” at the Inn section. This one was labeled “Tricky Guilmon”, but despite this, it did hand over the card when Faustein talked to it. Something about the ease of the interaction and the anticlimactic end didn't feel right to Faustein. However, he could not identify the reason for his unease, so he let the matter rest for the time being. After storing the card in his inventory, Faustein and his three digimon went all the way back to East Station where he registered his account and tried to take the gondola to South Sector, but it didn't let him register successfully. So, he stood around trying to figure it out for a minute, which was when he realized that the “Tricky Guilmon” NPC had given him the “8lue Card”, not the “Blue Card”.
That accursed Guilmon, this is such a drag. I think I shall have to go and have a friendly chat with it after all
With that thought in mind, Faustein and his three digimon went back to Seiryu City, but did not find the Tricky Guilmon there. However, there was a more forthright Guilmon NPC nearby Seiryu Tower which told them that the Tricky Guilmon NPC had left for the East Wire Forest Inn. So, Faustein went there and after a long, rather “friendly” discussion with said Tricky Guilmon NPC, he did get the genuine “Blue Card” this time. Now that he had it, Faustein and his digimon made their way back to the terminal, registered their account with the real Blue Card. After registration was complete, Faustein automatically boarded the gondola, possibly due to the game’s programming at this scene. Strangely, the gondola stopped part way to South Sector. Faustein was a bit taken aback, but then a warning message flashed across and an earthquake hit the area. At this point, a digimon called “Bulbmon” fell down onto the track and attacked him as well as his digimon. This battle was quite tough, but thanks to all the growth and equipment upgrades his digimon trio had gone through since the beginning of the game and also due to his direction connection with it, they were able to defeat it. After that wholly unrewarding battle, the “Bulbmon” split apart and from the remains, there came the hologram of a strangely familiar looking figure which spoke
“Pesky human!! You continue to stand in my way at every turn!! I have had just about enough of you!! So, we shall have to settle this in the real Digital World!! You have been warned, so begin counting your days, for you are now and forever a dead man walking!!”
After that the human figure morphed into that of some strange alien bug like digimon which reminded him of the rumored Snatchmon. Faustein sighed and then used his administrator privileges to log out forcefully after which he emailed the report about the game to his clients aka the mysterious company that had hired him for this job. Once that was done, he realized it was late, so he went to bed, thoroughly exhausted and looking forward to a nice long rest.
