”H-holly read to me some stuff from time to time when she wasn’t studying… or m-ma did when I was falling asleep. So of.. Course I’d be curious. I ah… Would like that a lot actually!”
Coal perked up and smiled at her da; though hearing that… well that she wouldn’t have to figure out what she wanted to be yet made coal relax visibly. Being around so many different walks of mons and having all of them being so oddly successful in their different roles? Made her a little… worried about herself. Maybe not to the same degree that holly had when she started out but it was there.
”I… was a bit worried… but thanks da...”
Coal blinked a bit as he explained how to work with the tails and how to work with the legs. She’d try a few times and eventually get the hang of it. Plus a few face plants or slip ups. Suffice to say it’d take a bit for her to be fully at it.
”Mm… I bet this sort of stuff is easier when you have four legs rather than just two…”
Holly was glad to have help like this given the complexity of the material. Having to explain a lot of the basics was helping her along with the more complicated stuff. She’d flick her ears to either side and mull over the next question. Data beat… well what did data beat? It wasn’t a simple triangle like a lot of things. But the base was there.
”In theory Data is supposed to have an edge over vaccine; but it’s certainly not as strong of an advantage as vaccine has over virus or virus has over data.”
Once coal made it out of the room she’d look around like she had never been to this place before, wobbling over to one of the chairs and using it to lean on. It was still hard for her to get absolutely used to this place. She’d thoughtfully rub at her neck. Wondering how the outside would look… Now that she could walk through the snow without having to swim through it!
”I’ll take her out later, get her to stretch her legs. I think she’ll like it.”
Silence warmly rubbed at the top of mikemon’s head and turned her attention to her daughter. Noting that the glasses suited her… and noted that the renamon was wearing the goggles around her neck so that if she needed to she could just switch when she wanted to. It was an odd choice to the shutmon but given that she had her own set of goggles well… she wasn’t one to judge!
”Well it’s good to see you out there. How are the glasses?”
”Well they make it so my eye d-doesn’t hurt so much ma…”
”Good!”
Silence grinned a bit and thought about it for a moment; there was a good chance here. She could take both of the sisters down to the mart later…
”Say. Mikemon, what if I take these two down to the mart today for our shopping? Holly could use the extra time with her studies.”
”Hey I’m doing better!”
”Not using your clones for once too.”
Holly felt a blush creep over her face and she’d mumble a little bit before turning back to amber; she felt her ears burning with that comment. All silence could do was stick out her tongue at holly in a very teasing manner; followed by a barking laugh.
”Oh you have no idea how it sounds to have multiple people with the same voice talking to one another. First time I walked in on you doing that I thought I was dreaming!”

"You'll get it, hun. I have confidence in you."
With that bit of encouragement, it wouldn't take long for Coal to join the rest of the family. Amber listened to her older sister with interest, even if she didn't completely understand every technical detail that Holly was going over. "Hm, you think it would be even if they were to put it in a triangle like that - oh? Oh, hey, sis!" Amber smiled, giving Coal a wave. Seeing her twin lean up against that chair, Amber tilted her head. Glasses and goggles?
"Looking good on ya!" Following up with ma's encouragement, she'd take another glance down at the notes, and chuckle as Silence mentioned going down to town. "Ah, don't worry too much about it, Holly." The Renamon-X looked down at the MeiCrackmon's notes. "I don't get any of the formulas or whatnot you're putting down... so its probably best for you to think over the mathy stuff yourself."
"Well, I'll be around to help if ya need it." Mikemon smirked, and nodded to the Shutmon. "I can handle things around here just fine. You have a good time with the two of 'em - oh, though we are out of flour. Make sure you get a bag or two while you're in town?"
Well, Silence would probably already have a list. Flour, sugar, chicken... some normal stuff, and stuff to restock after that curry night!

”T-thanks da…”
Coal fidgeted a little bit and stared at the others; it was strange being able to see them like this. In such a strong and straightforward manner. She remained mostly quiet and kept listening to what holly was explaining to her sister. She didn’t really understand it too much.
”I think it’d probably be something more like a hexagon if you got all the types together. Here let me show you…”
Each type had an intrinsic advantage over others; while there was a pair that just didn’t seem connected to either of them. Free and Unknown seemed to be just… there. Not really doing much while the others seemed to be linked one way or another.
”Free and Unknown are case by case; they are also exceptionally rare with only a few known entries each. There has been a spike in the latter case though.”
”T-thanks sis…”
Coal smiled a bit and eased to looking at the notes herself; she understood… almost nothing that was here. She’d tilt her head a little bit and her eyes seemed to track the information quite well. Seeing the graph she’d mumble a bit and with a claw would trace in a circle to each.
”So what typing are we then? Amber’s vaccine right? And I’m virus?”
Coal only could guess really; she figured with all this nonsense that she’d be in that family. Nothing bad came from it but it was information she could do stuff with later more than likely.
”I think I’ll be okay da, most of it is just reiterating stuff…”
The shutmon shifted and stretched, though once coal and amber were close enough she’d pick the both of them up in a big bear hug. She was proud of her little renamons and was glad that they were able to pick up so much so quickly. Coal timidly hugged her back before they’d find themselves back on their feet.
”Now c’mon you two; it’s a good day to shop since it won’t storm till later…”
Silence would help them bundle up with some cloaks before taking one of their hands each and leading them towards the market district of town. She’d hum a little bit along the way; her own merry tune but it had a strange and gentle undertone to it.
”And today we’re gonna surprise your father and sister with something~ You two get to pick out deserts!”

"... Mmm... so Free and Unknown are just outside the list entirely? Does that make it a better type to be?"
"Not at all, Amber." Mikemon gave a shrug, looking on at this little lesson. "The advantages and disadvantages are minor at best. And being an 'unusual' data type makes it harder to receive transfusions or care from most others. Not to mention, its also difficult for 'Free' Digimon to become anything more powerful than Champion."
Huh. The Renamon found herself looking at the notes with a tilted head, ear flicking as Coal tried to guess their types. Amber was Vaccine and Coal was virus? Amber thought it over, but found her fur standing up on her back, as she was suddenly scanned.
Not by Coal, but by her dad. Mikemon's eyes briefly gained the same tint that Coal's had, as the doctor gave a chuckle. "Nope! Amber, you're a Data type. And Coal, you're Vaccine."
"Wait... even though we're both Renamon, its that different? I mean, we're sisters! Twins, almost!"
"Sometimes it doesn't work like that! Most MeiCrackmon are virus types, but Holly over there's Vaccine!"
So really, what was the point in even guessing? Amber chuckled, gave a shrug, and slipped right off to Silence as she invited them out to the store. Coal had a nice, red cloak, whereas Amber's was green, making them nice and easy to pick out of a crowd. Both were held close to Silence, soon making their way out into the cold banks of Snowpoint. The snow crunched beneath their feet, packing gently to ice in their footprints.
"D-Dessert, huh?" Amber stammered, gripping her claws around the edges of her cloak. "H-heh. So long as we can get s-something warm! S-sheesh... I n-need to grow out my coat some more..."

”I think it has something to do with the way their data is structured and how it interacts with the world around them. But having no advantages or disadvantages is sometimes worse than having some.”
You could play off of both your weaknesses and strengths after all. Hearing that part with the levels too made Holly pause and consider how rare cion must be. Wasn’t she a free type? Or was she a vaccine? It was really hard to tell. She hadn’t scanned their data and had only made a guess.
Coal visibly flinched as she felt her data get swept; hearing that she was a vaccine made her blink really slow and she’d look down at her hands. It was strange; she had read in one of holly’s books that some appearances were almost just being a part of one thing or another. Lighter colors for vaccines and darker colors for virus’ for one. But then again… the digital world was full of exceptions.
”From what holly told me is that OmegaShutmon is an unknown type while the rest of my forms are all vaccines. It’s kinda weird really.”
Coal perked up and look to her mother, giving their hand a small squeeze as the shutmon brought that up. The shutmon grinned and gave them a gentle pat on the head; the fox flushing a little bit and looking down at her feet.
”The digital world is… very strange…”
Once they were out in town coal seemed to brighten up a bit; but rather than wearing her glasses she’d be wearing her goggles. She really didn’t want the former to break and had left them behind for the moment. She’d glance at amber and then look down at her own hands. Or rather just one of the hands sinc ethe other was firmly held by silence.
”Absolutely! My idea was to have you guys pick out something they’ll have to make and deliver for us~”
”...I… wouldn’t mind getting some sherbert actually… r-raspberry sherbet…”
Silence blinked a few times and looked down to her daughter; chuckling a little bit and for a moment letting go of either’s hands to rub at the top of their heads. She’d quickly go back to holding their hands and leading them along…
”We can easily do both~ With your father’s job and mine we definitely make more than enough money to splurge on my morning sun and summer’s moon~”
"M-ma!"
Coal felt her cheeks start to burn red and silence couldn't help but chuckle at those nicknames; she felt they were terrible but honestly she felt like they were also really accurate. Both were warm in different ways and she wouldn't trade the world for them...

Yes, the Digital World was very strange, full of exceptions and circumstances. Cion was, indeed, a through-and-through free-type, and even Dr. Mikemon and Silence had 'neutral' data types in their upper levels as well - Mikemon at Mega, and Silence at Super Mega!
That aside, though, it was time to hit the town. Amber and Holly could chat over the specifics later (or, more likely, Amber could draw something for her older sister to take her mind off of all that studying!). For now, the two sisters went out with their mom into town. Coal had her goggles, and Amber had an arm raised up to keep that frigid air out of her face.
"Mm, delivery sounds great. I'm surprised you don't do more of it with all of... 'this' here." She vaguely motioned at the weather, ear flicking as Coal mentioned her choice of dessert. Sherbet, really? "Are you trying to make me cold, sis?" The Renamon teased, giving Coal a gentle bump on her arm, the roughhousing fox quickly drawn into line as that hand settled on her head.
... And it wasn't just Coal who was embarrassed! "M-morning Sun, really?" She forgot about the cold, just chuckling in disbelief at her own nickname! Well, twas the right of parents to poke fun at their kids, sometimes. Thankfully, it wouldn't take them too long to get to town - the weather had been tame over the last few days, and the roads were relatively clear - and with the wind no longer being a factor, Amber found herself more comfortable on the cobblestone streets of Snowflake!
A town with durable buildings, thick roofs, and no less than two pubs in sight at the front of main street, filled to the brim with rowdy mine workers and gruff-looking Digimon. Even Amber, a bit more outgoing, held herself closer to Silence as they would walk into town.
"Is... is there even a proper grocery all the way out here? How do you stay so-well stocked?"

”Oh this? This is nothing. See my body is more or less colder than the surrounding area; so in fact it’s quite warm for me right now. Deliveries are more for when we want something by a certain time or the like...”
Silence let out a small chuckle and to demonstrate she’d blow out a swath of icy crystals from her mouth. Nothing that was an attack but just to show off that indeed the shutmon was a frigid piece of work!
”A-ah! Well uhm… N-no but... ”
Coal fidgeted a little bit and flushed brightly as silence led them through town. She wasn’t so much poking fun at her daughters as she was trying to encourage them in a different way. Or at least trying to give them a little something. With the roads being mostly clear it was easy to lead them along.
Coal squeaked a bit as she saw some of the miners and gruff looking digimon, practically vanishing into silence’s cloak to hide herself. The shutmon looked down at the two of them and frowned a bit. Was the company around here really that bad and at the question silence let out a laugh. Scooping the both of them up to set each of them on her shoulders. If they wanted to be close to their mother there likely wouldn’t be a safer place!
”There’s a lot of little things around here that we go to, the bakery, the deli… Some stuff that you can only get through hunting and if we really want to we can take a portal to one of the other cities for other stuff we need. That and I can teleport long distances; even take people with me too. Though it’s a little… over the top.”
Silence snorted a bit at the thought of her Gate ability. She had only found it out by stumbling through her forms. All sorts of things that she was still struggling through herself. Would she admit that to these two? No. No she wouldn’t.
It’d be maybe five or so minutes before they were in front of the exact bakery. She had come here time and time again with mikemon after visits to the pub or with holly when they were chatting up a storm. She could only remember the once with syre but then again their schedules were practically opposite!
”Now we can get sherbert but we also do need to get something nice and hot... ”
The shutmon would ease the two down from her shoulders and motion for the both of them to head inside. Their mother would have to de-digivolve to her own renamon form; one that came with a cape and everything. But unlike the two of them she was far more muscled and had that stark white fur!
”Now go on and pick your goods, I’ll be in in a moment!”

Well, could Silence really blame them? This was the first time that either of them were in town. And yes, the miners and rock workers were scary, most of them being Champion and higher golem-type Digimon, and the like! That said, they seemed to look on at Silence with warm smiles and waves, breaking the illusion that this was just a rough-and-tough city.
Hoisted up onto Silence's shoulder, Amber gave a small chuckle. She balanced herself pretty well, and enjoyed getting a nice, higher look over the city! "Sheesh, teleporting just to get groceries? Well... maybe you don't have a choice if the weather gets too bad..." Snowflake definitely wasn't a place for outside markets. No, it was a place for a giant bonfire in the town center, and several stores surrounding the place. It was how the three ended up right at the bakery, and how Amber and Coal found themselves hopping off the Shutmon so she could de-digivolve!
A 'regular' white Renamon, walking in alongside twin Renamon-X. There were two new faces, but heck, the eggs were already somewhat the talk of the town when they were first picked up! "Kay! C'mon, Coal!" If need be, she'd take Coal's arm and lead her sister inside. She'd soon have a basket, and a small list in hand! Everything here did look good, but it wasn't as if she could grab everything in sight!
"Let's see... flour, wheat bread... salt, sugar..." The individual ingredients weren't too hard to find, though Amber definitely did look like a first-timer here!

”yeah sometimes I’d have to. If the weather got bad enough, but then again your father has portal stuff going on anyways so~”
Silence gladly returned those waves and warm smiles; coal herself shied away from those that she didn’t know. She was very shy and didn’t know what to do with new people that she had no relations to. Silence stretched a bit and grinned lightly as the other two entered the bakery.
”I swear…”
A small shake of the head and she’d get to talking with one of the passerbiers. Seeing if they had any news or the like and even picking up the newspaper for today. Seeing how the delivery boy was out sick for the week.
While inside the renamon-x looked around and stuck close to her sister. Even looking like a first timer to those that were in here; the few rock golems or the like didn’t seem to pay them no mind… Well until they came into the same aisle as they were in! Rocky grins and small waves here or there. But it was eventually the shopkeep that stuck his snowy snout in.
”Lookin to bake your own goods today girls? Silence's youngin's right?”
The chackmon’s doofy grin was easy to see from the get go and he seemed friendly enough. Though he seemed to be lacking the stereo typical launcher on his shoulder it wasn’t difficult to figure out what he was!
”A-ah!”
Coal being on the closer side of the two immediately huddled behind her sister; peeking out at the shopkeep who was blinking owlishly at the response to his greeting and query!

Amber didn't mind her sister being so close by, honestly. After all, it was another person to hold a basket as Amber went through the shopping list!
Flour, wheat bread, salt, sugar, milk, eggs - after Syre's little cooking binge with Cion, there was a lot of basics that the family had to stock up on! It took Amber a bit to find everything, with it being her first time there, but it wasn't too hard to fill out the shopping list. "Let's see... it looks like the last thing we need to find is... red pepper? Is that something that would be at a bakery - hm?"
Her ear flicked, the Renamon-X blinking as she heard a voice. She was surprised to have to look down - to see another Digimon just about her dad's size! "Er... yeah! I'm Amber, and this is - gah!" The yellow fox gave a blink, feeling Coal slip right behind her!
"C-Coal?! Seriously, don't just sneak up behind me like that!" She gave a chuckle - and stepped off to the side, wrapping an arm around Coal's back. "Go on, say hi! He's not gonna bite... I think..."

Coal looked around curiously as she held a basket for her sister; they were probably better about finding the stuff they needed to bake anyways. The black-renamon-x curiously picked up one such flour bag to look it over. Reading the ingredients as her sister spoke. The last thing they needed was red pepper? Why would they need something like that out of a bakery?
”What’s… a red pepper even used for?”
She had to wonder while staring at the chakamon; she felt a deep seated fear in her core and she’d grip at her chest a bit. She wasn’t used to new people in the slightest and it wasn’t hard to drive her straight into a panic. She’d wince a bit as the other wrapped her arm around her back.
”S-sorry… he… s-scared me. H-..Hi..”
”Bit of a shy one ain’t she? We’ve got ground red pepper for spice but if you’re lookin for the actual bit that’d be next-door. Bakery right next to a grocery. Who would have figured?”
The chackmon let out a soft laugh and leaned to look the two renamon’s over. They were unlike silence or the other siblings he had seen during his time here. But he could tell that the two would probably end up making their mother proud.
”A pleasure to meet the both of yah. And don’t worry I won’t bite; these teeth are better for veggies anyways!”
The chackmon grinned ear to ear and if the ground red pepper wasn’t what the twins were looking for he didn’t have it here! They’d have to go next-door with their mother and find it that way; in yet again another shop... Hopefully one that coal would be comfortable with.

"Hm? Oh, 'red pepper' is the red-flake stuff that's used for the chili. I don't think mom sent us out to a bakery to try and get vegetables?"
That made sense enough to her! And on sight of the Chackmon, Amber felt just how nervous Coal was, even after the fox tried to carefully introduce her sister to the situation. Despite her talking, it almost felt like Coal was ready to scream or run out the store running at any moment. Not that it was entirely a bad reaction: the Chackmon was a stranger! A stranger, that even Amber wouldn't have talked to...
... If it wasn't for the name-tag on the Chackmon's jacket, and the jacket belonging to the store! "Thanks for the heads-up, then! We'll be up to check out shortly. C'mon, Coal." She'd carefully tug Coal away from the smaller Digimon, and would slip over to the adjacent aisle, quickly finding that plastic bottle full of spicy red flakes. And with the two alone in the aisle, Amber gave a sigh.
"Are you going to be okay getting in line, sis?" Amber asked, a bit concerned. "Everyone's here for the same reason we are, to buy stuff to cook with. Just relax - we'll meet up with ma right after, alright?"

”The… stuff that syre likes to make so much?”
Coal rubbed at her cheek and stared down at the Chackmon; he wasn’t so bad. She could see the outline of his body ever so slightly and the other mon scratched at his ear wondering what that sensation even was! The renamon-x awkwardly shifted and nodded her head as the chackmon gave out some helpful instructions for the two.
”All right! I’m just a stocker so you’ll be dealin with my boss. Big ol friendly snowball that one.”
He’d give them a small wave and go back to his work. The renamon letting out a surprised gasp as she was tugged away from the Chackmon. The blackrenamon glancing around as they were in this new aisle. She’d look to her sister at that sigh.
”I’m… I.. I’ll be okay… I think.”
Coal mumbled a bit and wrung her hands, looking somewhat nervous. But hearing that they’d be meeting up with their mother right after? Well that wasn’t so bad. She’d exhale a little bit and with one hand firmly gripping her sister’s upper arm she’d give the other a nod.
”A-alright…”
Now the real test for coal would be very shortly; if she could handle herself around multiple people that she didn’t know… But then again would she even be able to keep herself quiet? Calm even? Why was her mother taking so long to get back to them? She’d nervously fidget as she followed her sister...

"Mhm! Syre likes spicy stuff!"
Amber gave a smile at that - and about a minute later, when she was giving Coal the 'pep-talk', her smile was gentler and considerate, giving a nod to the black Renamon-X. Coal wasn't handling this perfectly, of course: she was holding onto Amber, even as they got into line, and it seemed like she was about to 'pop' at any moment. It was enough that people both tried to keep their distance and, unfortunately, found themselves looking in Coal's direction. With how she was, she was standing out, which only brought more and more unwanted attention her way!
Still in line, and noticing this, Amber gave a sigh. The line wasn't too long, and it didn't take much for her to get everything on the counter in front of the Frigimon. "T-that's everything. How much do I owe you?"
Amber's tone was short. She wanted to get Coal out of here as soon as possible, and get her right back to Silence. Because, really, she didn't know how to handle the situation, other than to remove Coal from it!

”Is… she the only one?”
Coal didn’t actually know who else in their family liked spicy things, in fact she didn’t know much about her other family members' truth be told. She was only a week or so old at this point and her nervousness started to get the better of her. Thankful that people were giving them distance but she visibly shrank away from people as they looked to her. Trembling as she held onto the basket, it was practically the only thing stopping her from running out of the store.
She’d squeak at seeing the fridgimon and hide behind her sister while trying her best to put the basket on the counter for the other mon. The large snow digimon raised a brow at seeing the two and shifted his weight to look over what was in the baskets before scanning them with a little beeper.
”750. Anything else?”
He’d glance at the two; wondering if they even had the money. He didn’t recall knowing if… OH! He’d raise his brows slightly as he realized who’s kids these must have been and reached behind the counter for some bags.
”Your mum has store credit so let me just… tally this stuff on that…”
Their mother must have planned for the two of them to go shopping and not even a few minutes later would they be outside with the bags. Coal visibly deflating from the tension of being in that situation. Though not even a few moments after that would the two of them be scooped up by their mother once more!
”Hey there you two! How did it go?”
The wolf was smiling ear to ear and in one hand she was holding a sizable bag of her own. She must have gotten something from one of the stores nearby for the lot of them!
”D-do I have to do that again…?”
”Eh? Oh! Not anytime soon; snowstorm is moving on in so I’ll have to go shopping in whitewater or terminus instead~”
Silence seemed to miss the nervousness in her daughters voice… or if she did she was going to wait till later to help her out!
