Flower Shop Girl & the Lion Repairman [Kan]

"Did you make sure to close the shop?" Honoka heard her father's voice from the phone resting on the floor. She glanced over to the ragged-looking door that frequently got stuck in its maligned doorframe. She could see the "Open" facing her direction.
"Mm." Her hands were pressed against the floor, supporting the weight of her body while her feet hovered just millimeters from the wall. Her hair fell down under the top of her head as she stared at the pink device sitting beside her phone. Inside its small screen, a flower with a face blinked back at her while remaining completely silent.
"If you want to lock the doors, then you can just let him in once he arrives. Last time I checked, those group of students were still hanging around the corner." Her father always avoided calling people delinquents, but the intention was still there.
"It's fine. They don't have any reason to come in here, anyway." She assured her father. She glanced back towards her pink Digivice, and the flower-creature within. Even if some uncouth youths decided to barge in here and cause trouble, Honoka thought she had a way to deal with them. Then again, maybe not. Could she even transform when not in the Digital World? Regardless, she could probably drive off some school punks with a broom, transformed or not.
"I know, but..." He gave a long, tired sigh from over the phone. "I don't like that you have to be there alone. I should reschedule for when Eiji's not at his other job..."
"It's fine!" She repeated, trying, but ultimately failing to keep the irritation from her voice. "The sooner you get the computer fixed the better, right? I bet he won't even take that long, anyway!"
"It still makes your father uncomfortable. Sorry. I wish we could afford to hire some actual employees... I'm still making deliveries, but I'll be there in a couple of hours..."
"Dad..." Honoka's tone grew a sharp edge to it as a realization dawned on her. "You're not talking to me while driving, are you?"
"I..." It was all the young woman needed to hear.
"How could you!? You're going to get fined, or cause an accident!" She adjusted her weight, slowly lifting one hand up and pressing her finger on the phone. She had to lean her feet against the wall in order to keep her balance. "I'm hanging up before you get sent to jail! I love you! Bye!" She ended the call, and let out a sigh of frustration before returning to her two-handed handstand. It wasn't exactly a proper or decent employee behavior, but the blinds were shut at the moment, and no one could see through the door, regardless.
All she had to do was make sure nothing happened in the shop while the repairman was here. Waiting for the repairman was boring, and she was supposed to have been training today regardless. Her father was worrying too much. It was just going to be another boring day at Hanasaki Rainbow.

It wasn’t too strange for him to get called out to go repair something here or there; he used to do it much more often when he was younger. If anything he enjoyed the little outings; it let him see more of the city that he barely knew a thing about. See more people that he barely knew or didn’t even know existed! So with that he had decided to drive over to the back streets.
Most people wouldn’t bother; most people would take a cab or maybe just hoof it if they really needed something from this area. But not him; the massive man’s presence often was enough to dissuade people from doing anything. Given he stood a head, shoulders and sometimes even chest above those in any given location here.
Japan wasn’t known for having the tallest people around after all…
But it did have a plethora of options for vehicles! One of which he was driving at the moment; it was just a rental while his vehicle was off getting some much needed updates in the digital world. He knew that digital world gear was better than most human stuff so he had opted to just buy one there.
It was a decent drive from his shop to this one and it’d be about ten or so minutes from the end of the conversation that Honoka was having with her father before he showed up. The simple black car pulling up along the curb before shutting off. He’d stuff the keysinto one of his pockets and lean to pull his bag from the passenger seat.
A moment later he stepped out of the car; causing a few people passing by to glance at him. It was rare to see someone like him around; he still probably screamed american even if he had been living here for thirteen or so years. Closing the door and making his way to the entry of the flower shop he couldn’t help but glance up at the name.
Didn’t he do a service for them a while back? Or maybe he had grabbed some flowers for gretal when they were still dating?
It was hard to remember; so much had happened in the last decade that small moments seemed to just skip on by. Managing a small frown of thought the man would knock on the door; the blinds were shut and he couldn’t tell if anyone was around. Had he come at the wrong time? Kan grumbled to himself and pulled out his notepad; slipping on his reading glasses to take a gander at the notes he had written down.
No he was here at the right time; but maybe it was just the fact the store was closed that was throwing him for a loop? So he figured the next best thing would just be to knock on the door. A steady thump of one two three; thankfully right on the frame of the door rather than the centerpiece.
”Anyone in there? It’s the computer-repair-guy. Kan.”
It’d be even more of a pain if they had to run out and just forgot to put up a ‘back in five’ or something too… But then again he wasn’t exactly paid by the hour. He was paid for the job overall. Was a lot more stable that way given how fast he could work.
Given what the large man was wearing he probably didn't even look the part of computer repair man. More like a businessman just wearing his casual stuff. Jeans. white T shirt. Hawaiian overshirt. He didn't even know why he was wearing this today but it just felt kinda right. That and the weather did permit this kinda stuff around this time of year...

A loud thud came from the door, much louder than what Honoka expected. She suddenly lost her balance, letting out a brief yelp as she tumbled across the floor, eventually springing to her feet. She let out a sigh of relief as she stood up, rolling her shoulders forward as she turned towards the door. A man's voice introduced himself as the computer-repairman. He wasn't running particularly late, so she found it particularly suspicious. How much was her father paying this guy if he wasn't late? If he was dipping into personal funds again she swore she was gonna...
"Right! I'll be right there!" She called out with a smile on her face despite the fact no one was there to see it.
Leaving her Digivice and cell phone on the floor near the wall where she had been training, she took a couple of steps towards the door before she took stock of herself. Doing handstands did wonders for building up arm strength, but it did very little for keeping a composed appearance. She quickly tucked in her sleeveless shirt, smoothed out her skirt, and straightened her hair with her fingers. She swiped her store apron from the counter top as she pulled it over her head and loosely tied it around her waist. "Just one more second!" She stepped up to the door, turning the doorknob and pulled, yet the door didn't open. The door must have gotten jammed into the frame again.
Honoka placed her hand underneath the doorknob and pushed upwards, using her legs to brace herself. With a grunt of effort, she was able to yank the door open. Maybe after the computer got fixed they could afford to hire a carpenter to fix the frame, instead of having it open a crack during store hours. A girl could only dream.
"Sorry!" She gave an apologetic bow. "We're normally open during these hours, but we're kind of..." Too poor to afford employees. "...understaffed right now, so my father decided it would be best to be closed during your visit... Kan-san, was it?" She gave one more bow, a more formal greeting. "I'm the owner's daughter. Nijimura Honoka..." Her voice trailed off as she took a look at the man standing in front of her for the first time. Definitely a foreigner, with a large, muscular build that Honoka definitely wasn't jealous of. At all. What had her attention however, was the white device hanging around his neck. A device she had seen far too often from people these past few days.
Seriously, where have all of these people been hiding all her life?
"Th-thank you very much for coming..." She finally managed to spit out.

Not hearing anything immediately wasn’t a surprise; he’d just shift his bag so that it was hanging off of one shoulder before looking around. This area looked really god damn familiar to him but he couldn’t place his finger on it. Maybe he really did come here to get flowers before; he didn’t seem to recall ever being called here on business before. Most people outside of society hill usually didn’t bother with his services; more because of the distance they figured he wouldn’t be willing to travel.
But he didn’t much care; hearing someone call out that they’d be right there he relaxed just a little bit. But the older man blinked as he heard the voice call out again; one second? Well it’s not like he was paid by the minute and this was his only ‘job’ today. After this he’d probably go back home and just relax. He’d tilt his head and shrug; responding quickly if not a bit cheerfully.
”No worries. I’m not in a rush.”
Then came the struggle of opening the door; was the doorframe cracked or something? He’d frown a bit and shif tto help but… once the door opened he’d be greeted with a rather charming if not sweet looking young girl. She had to be about half his age if he had to guess and… was her hair pink? He couldn’t help but wonder if that was natural or not. Given that his own hair was a dark red it wasn’t too out of bounds right? No… definitely dyed. But that didn’t much matter to him. He’d return the bow with one of his own.
”It’s all right; I know how it can be. Only have two employees other than myself.”
If he could even call his ex-wife an employee. She was a mercenary of the digital world that was well versed in the human one thanks to him. He’d tilt his head ever so slightly as she continued on; so that’s why they were closed. Giving a nod at her questioning his name he’d raise his brows a little bit at seeing her bow again. Certainly polite; maybe a little too polite for someone such as him but he wouldn’t berate someone he just met for something like this!
”Well it’s a pleasure to meet you Ms. Nijimura.”
He’d return the bow; though his eyes followed where hers were looking and he noted that she seemed to be surprised at his device. If not a little.. What? Nervous? Would this be nervousness? He’d chuckle at her thanking him for coming; seriously it was his job! Why would he blow off someone asking for help?
”Not a problem. Now where’s the computer?”
If it was a hardware issue he had some things he could add in or shift around; if it was software that was easier. If allowed he’d enter into the flower shop; taking a quick glance around...

Honoka realized that she had frozen up in the doorway as she suddenly hopped back to let the large man inside. "S-sorry! I didn't mean to just stand there! Please, come right in!" She turned around to see her phone and Digivice still lying on the floor. As Kan presumably stepped inside and looked around, she walked over towards her electronic devices and picked them up. "Ah, so our computer is right around the counter!" She put them into her apron's pockets as she gestured towards the counter. She led him around the counter towards a desktop computer well past its prime. It's initial eggshell-white color had turned into a faint yellow color and dust covered the entire machine.
"It's kind of old, and it won't even start..." Honoka tried to explain. Eiji, one of her brothers, had tried to explain to her what was wrong with it, but Honoka didn't understand a single word. Technology was more akin to magic for the girl, and even something as simple as changing her ringtone was completely beyond her. She had accidentally changed the language settings to something she couldn't read one day, and didn't know how to navigate through the menus.
"It's the only computer my father knows how to use, so it's difficult to take online orders and make deliveries right now..." She tried to explain, silently wondering what a guy with a Digivice around his neck was doing here. "We've taken some orders from some of our regulars over the phone, but there's only so many times they can cheat on their wives, you know?" She tried repeating one of the jokes her father would use on some of their customers, but it just felt hokey and unnatural to the girl. She tried hard not to think about how much infidelity supported their business.
In front of the computer was a small, ratty computer chair. Its entire back-side was missing, and of its five legs, one of the wheels was nowhere to be found. She and Eiji may have found it sitting next a dumpster one day, but she'd never tell. However, the man had to be well over a hundred kilograms, maybe even one-twenty, so if he were to take a seat it would no doubt collapse under his weight. The last thing she wanted to explain to her father why the repairman was lying unconscious when he got back. And he was only here to help, after all. It would just be rude.
So, she swooped in and plopped down in the seat ahead of Kan, carefully scooting the chair away as to give him enough room to work. She gave him a smile while suppressing the urge to repeatedly slam her own head against the wall for being so impolite. Forcing her self-loathing aside, she glanced at the Kan's Digivice once more, looking at the door still hanging open. "Ah... so do you have a partner? For work, and... other stuff..."
If there was some sort of secret lingo that Digivice wielders had, no one had ever bothered to share it with the teenage girl. So instead she had to settle for incredibly awkward conversation topics.

”Ah it’s all right. New people. I get that.”
Kan easily brushed the fact that he knew she was staring at his digivice to one side; some people recognized it. Some people didn’t. The only question he had for that was if she did or not. If she did then it was trying to figure out how to address this sort of stuff. If not… Well then it was probably wondering what kind of tech that was!
He’d lean to look at where she mentioned the computer was; he’d furrow his brow as he noted that well… The computer was quite old. Ancient even; at least by today’s standards. If it wasn’t booting up there was a plethora of problems that it could be.
”Older models do tend to last a while but if it won’t even start I guess the problem might be with the hardware rather than software…”
Kan rubbed at his chin and stared at it for a moment before following the younger girl to where it was. He’d blink as she took the chair and only shrugged in response of it. It didn’t look like it could support his weight in the slightest but you never knew.
”Makes sense, my first computer I tried and tried over and over to fight to make it work for as long as I could. Now it’s just sitting in my upstairs collecting dust and reminding me of fond memories with it.”
It was his escape when he was younger, programming. Hacking into various places; checking things over… All that and more. He’d shift and place his bag down next to the counter before taking out the tools of the trade. Quite a few things in fact. He even had a place mat for where he could put the parts once he started taking the thing apart!
Hearing her joke he’d shake his head; managing a small smile. It was a bad one he felt but she must have heard it somewhere. His ex-wife probably would have laughed. In fact he’d have to tell her about this later if she was around.
”Spose I wouldn’t know. Not the reason my ex-wife left me.”
Another chuckle and the man would first check if the pc would boot at all; figuring that if it at least was getting power he’d hear it try to kick up. If not? Well… that could be a load of different problems. No reason to take it apart without unplugging it either…
”Well. My ex-wife runs the shop when I’m not around or if I’m out on business. Though the employee I hired only works the afternoons after school so I don’t know if you’d count that.”
He’d frown a bit as he didn’t even get what he was hoping for with the computer. Shrugging to himself he’d move to unplug it. He’d have to crack it open and take a look at what was inside then!
”And for other stuff… Hmm. I suppose? If you really could call him a partner. But his form takes some getting used to.”
What did you call a spirit that was just in it to make sure you didn’t fuck up again? A guardian? Or whatever snyder was. He’d consider for a moment and tap his digivice. If she followed his meaning she’d probably get that he was a spirit wielder.
Or it’d just confuse her more. He wasn’t sure; if she didn’t have a clue about the stuff she’d probably think he was talking about some scarred up or deformed man he had to work with! It was all right any way you ran it.
”What about you? I don’t often see someone of your age working for places like this. With or without a partner around. Or parental figure I guess.”

"Ah, well, it was the first computer my parents had bought together, so when my mom..." She left it at that. She doubted that the repairman wanted to hear a dead mom story. "I guess my father wants to keep things the same, you know? Even though one of my brothers had been insisting on upgrading for a couple years now..." She forced a smile while she squirmed uncomfortably in her seat. He had briefly mentioned some personal things, like his old computer and the fact that he used to be married, but Honoka didn't want to pry into the man's life like that. She had always been something of an overly-curious girl, but thanks to that she got a brand new piece of technology and a much more bizarre life added onto her already busy life.
She pulled out her own Digivice as she watched Kan work on the broken down computer. He definitely seemed to know what he was doing, and she wasn't really able to ask questions about it. He could say stuff like, "I'm re-calibrating the viscosity of the module pylons" and it would all sound the same to the girl. "But... I know a little bit about getting used to new forms... I'm used to moving my body around, so having a new one is..."
She looked around nervously, blushing as if she was revealing an incredibly lewd secret to the stranger. "I... my new limbs get shorter so it's hard to move around as I would normally, and you'd be surprised how much your sense of balance gets affected just by having a tail. Plus... my hands... become flowers, so I can't really do anything with them when I change..." She still wasn't sure if the man knew what she was talking about. She still hadn't quite seen a Digivice quite like his yet, but that strange design was far too reminiscent of the other ones she had seen before.
"But... It's really just my father, one of my older brothers, and myself at the shop these days... My oldest brother is in university right now, and my least older brother..." Was a lazy delinquent. "Is usually up to other things..."

Kan paused when the teen explained that this was the first computer her parents had bought together; hearing those four words he’d nod his head. He understood how things were; how it was hard to have change. He was the same when one of his friends had passed. Never having parents himself he couldn’t really relate to losing them.
”I know how it is when something so firm in your life is just gone all of a sudden. Upgrading might be for the best to be honest...”
The man shifted and well; he’d start to get to work. Taking great care to make sure the computer was unplugged, set on the counter and he could get into taking it apart. Inspecting each piece; hooking them up to a small hand held that would check if they were receiving power and if they were working properly. It was basically a small computer that just was made to run diagnostics for stuff. Made his life easy. If he found a part that wasn’t working he could easily replace it.
Hearing her talk about her forms definitely made him pause; so she was a spirit weilder just like he was. But rather than be a cat or dog or some kind of other animal it seems as though she was a plant based spirit user. He’d shake his head and chuckle at the irony he saw.
”When I was younger my form at the time was much bigger than I was. So getting used to the limbs was… interesting to say the least. Most of them had tails; it just adjusts your balance. It’ll take practice to get everything handled.”
He’d frown as he came across a couple pieces that seemed to be burned out. Likely from not wanting to muck with this piece of equipment too much else it might lose whatever spark it held to the rest. But it was an easy fix so far… He just hoped it wasn’t a dead motherboard.
”Mm I see. So youngest of three?”
It was a simple question that she didn’t have to answer; hearing that he was ‘up to other things’ made kan shake his head. He knew how that was; he used to be like that. But in a different way. His shop was always around after all and it was just so easy to get back into life.
”My only suggestion is if you practice? It’s easier to do in the shibuya station; well the shibuya station for people like us. Either that or find a bit of privacy.”
Another burned out part; this one had been dead for a while judging by what he was looking at. Shaking his head he’d set it aside and so far it just turned out to be three or four pieces. Easy fixes all of them! But now for the real ‘problem’ child…
”I’d also avoid usin it at school. I didn’t have to deal with that cause I was eighteen when I got mine.”

Honoka gave the computer a solemn stare as Kan began to unplug and dismantle it. Once she realized it, however, she forced a smile. "Yeah... I doubt she would have particularly cared about what computer we use, so long as the shop can function..." She admitted. When he pointed out her place in the family, she shook her head politely. "Youngest of four, actually. The middle brother is out of high school now, but he still lives with us and helps out around the shop. He also has other jobs, which is why I'm here by myself right now..."
Then... things felt weird for the girl. Sure, they had... outed? Was that the right word for it? Was having a Digivice really supposed to be such a big secret? It's not like anyone would have believed her if she told someone that there was a magical land in another world connected to our subway system, where the trains have attitudes. But even though they had revealed their Digivices to one another, it didn't seem to faze Kan. He continued to go about his business as usual. Was it really not that much of a big deal, or was he just that dedicated to his work? She fiddled her thumbs around nervously as she just watched him work.
Eventually Kan recommended she practice, which was a little easier said than done. She didn't really have the time for it, really. "I keep meaning to, but between my studies, gymnastics, and working here, I can't really make any time for it..." Then she got an idea.
"Kan-san... time works differently in that world, correct? Do you think that... most Trailmon would mind if I took... extended rides there? Because if I could study in the Digital World, then I suppose I could have time to practice... other stuff." She wasn't sure why she was speaking so vaguely, other than the fact that it just seemed like the right way to go about it.
And when he mentioned school, Honoka simply grimaced. "I'd be too scared to transform at school or anywhere else in public, honestly... I know a few thugs around school and in the neighborhood who could use a flowery spanking, but I'm worried that I'll get captured by the government or something as some sort of alien... Though I guess in a sense... I would be..."

”Honestly, if the motherboard is fried I might as well just set you guys up with a new computer. I think she’d be happy to know that you guys are using what you can get.”
Kan sighed a bit; he didn’t want to push for information regarding what he presumed to be a dead parent. But he’d turn to her when she corrected him about her place in the family. That of four huh? Middle brother out of high school and… helped around the store and even had other jobs. The man rubbed at his chin thoughtfully and turned his head back to the computer. Just two more parts at this point that he had to go over. One being the motherboard and well.. The other was the fan. He doubted that needed replacement or even if it did it would be cheaper than anything else really.
”Ah yeah. Early on it’s hard to find time.”
He admitted quite plainly, when he was younger he had the same issue. Testing the fan he’d give a snort as it blew some dust on him. He’d brush it off and just shake his head. Then came the question that… well. Every tamer, spirit wielder and even mon he had come across asked him.
”It’s a seven to one ratio. One day here equals one week there. It’s why I can do rush jobs so effectively. They don’t particularly care if you bounce between worlds; their job is to ferry people. They have a set schedule too so just learn it.”
The man let out a soft laugh and glanced at honoka as she grimaced. So she was too fearful to transform at the school? Or in public? He’d rub at his chin thoughtfully and hearing what she’d like to do to some thugs made him actually laugh rather loudly.
”Ah yeah. I did the same thing when I was younger, but my first set of spirits couldn’t be perceived by people that didn’t know about the digital world. Worked out kinda. And yeah. DATS is what you have to watch out for; or rather neo dats I think they go by?”
He’d frown and shake his head; after the entire goldenweek incident the man had taken great effort to lay low. Not going out more than he needed to and keeping snyder in his digivice more often than not. The man shifted and started to check the motherboard. Frowning as he could smell a faint scent much like burnt toast.
”Ah. Yeah that’d do it…”
That also meant without a doubt that the flower shop needed an entirely new computer; at this rate it likely had burned out because of some fault in the power source giving too much to one part… and then just cascading into the others.
”There’s really not much I can do with this computer unfortunately. Smell this piece?”
He’d hold out the motherboard to the teen; his frown was evident and he knew that well. They likely couldn’t afford getting a new computer if their door was like that. But he had a few suggestions… And come to think of it his old laptop could easily serve as this places ordering device… It was a 2014 model which would blow whatever they had out of the park.
”One thing led to another and that smell basically tells you that it’s dead. And that's the motherboard; the brain of the computer. IE. Most expensive part. Well often more than not.”

"W-well... I'm not really the person to talk about new computers..." Honoka replied nervously. "Eiji knows more about that stuff than I do, and my father would be the one paying so..." She decided to leave it at that. She really wasn't in her own element when it came to this kind of stuff. Kan looked back at her for a bit, but went back to work, testing various bits and pieces of the equipment.
Then Kan confirmed the time disparity, even went so far as to specify it. Honoka tried to to the math in her head. If she had two nights a week off or about four hours each day, then that gave her about eight hours a week of free time in the human world. But multiplied by seven... Multiplied by seven would make fifty-six, then subtracting the eight hours she would have spent anyway gave her an extra forty-eight hours a week to study and practice. All of a sudden, the girl could have nine-day weeks. So if she was exhausted she could have a place to rest easier, or she had much more time to prepare for exams. It didn't quite seem fair, admittedly. Still, shouldn't she use the advantage she had been given?
Then Kan had brought up something that piqued her curiosity, taking the time to laugh at something she said. "Wait, did you say... a 'set of spirits'? That means that you had more than one, right? Is that supposed to be normal for us? Because I only have the one..." He brought up something called DATS, or perhaps Neo-DATS, warning her about them. "I figured that there might be some kind of group like that... It seems really weird that there's this whole other world out there that nobody seems to know about, after all. Especially when it's in a place as public as Shibuya Terminal."
Kan held out a blackened computery-looking part as she sniffed it and nodded. Definitely smelled like something burnt out. "I guess... no one could notice the smell, considering..." She gestured to the flowery themes around the entire store. Still, the computer was gone, but she didn't particularly feel too bad about it. "Well he won't be happy, but... I think dad will be able to accept it. When you're dealing with flowers, you kind of have to get used to the things around you withering and dying, after all..." It came out a little more morbid than the girl would have preferred, but all she could offer was a sad smile.

”Fair I spose. I’ll have to ask them what they use it for primarily; other than for orders at least.”
Kan paused at hearing that her father would have to be the one paying; he’d look around and frown. Would he really feel right taking money from these people? Aside from the obvious physical problem here could they actually manage with whatever money he’d leave them over with?
Kan rubbed at his chin; his older computer would likely do the job for them… He’d have to wipe it and make sure that it was fresh and ready to go but… It’d be a far upgrade to what they were used to. He’d blink a bit as she asked about his spirits.
”All right all right. Let me explain. When I first started out I was a tamer, someone with a partner. I in fact had two separate partners; split apart by a few years or so. Then I became a spirit wielder nearly a decade ago. With my first ‘group’ of spirits being corrupt and kinda a problem. Now I have a completely different set of spirits with different goals and personalities. It’s very uncommon to change partners that often. You’ll more than likely have one major spirit line and a few offshoots depending on how much you do in the digital world.”
He’d shift a bit and look over the computer parts that he had in front of him. Having her smell that one piece and then her make comments about that new group well… He’d just nod his head. There wasn’t much he could say about it.
”You’d be surprised about what people don’t know.”
It was all that he could say about that; given that he had been doing this almost longer than he hadn’t been. Hearing the morbidness of it the man frowned; he would have reached out and patted her on the head but… Honestly he didn’t feel like that would be appropriate.
”Wither and die yes, but you also have to remember the beauty of things for what they are. And the smiles that they bring before they go. I think if I talk to your dad about this he’ll see the reason and I have something that he might not be able to turn down either. Though I spose it depends if he’s all right with a laptop and not a desktop…”
The man side eyed the computer and kneeled to give it a look; frowning a bit as he took a look at the other parts that were blackened. All told… it’d be about the equivalent of what the computer was worth. Kind of unfortunate given that actual nice working ones were considered antiques at this point…
”See I have this computer back at home that used to be my old laptop. Truth be told I don’t use it so I wouldn’t be against helping you guys out. One business to another. And don’t get me started on the sappy businessmen that come to my store either...”

As Kan looked around at his surroundings, Honoka couldn't help but think of the look that most people that weren't from the neighborhood gave. A little bit of pity, perhaps a bit of smugness. Many-a-customer learned to appreciate what they had in life just by standing in this run-down store. It honestly infuriated the girl to an extend, despite the fact that she understood it. Still, she didn't quite get that same feeling from the large repairman. His expression seemed more like a practical understanding.
When he explained about his history with Digimon, about having a Digimon partner, then having two. Then he somehow acquired a problematic set of spirits. It seemed like Kan had quite the history going back well over a decade. She couldn't even begin to fathom what kind of adventures the man had, yet spoke so little of. "Well... I don't know what exactly I want to do in the Digital World just yet... I don't even know why I got this device and Spirit in the first place..." She looked at her D-Tector's screen. It looked blank to everyone else, except for Honoka. Floramon was staring back at her, waving with her flowery appendage. Honoka gave a smile back. She wondered if ten years from now, would she be similar? Or would she be too busy with... whatever she decided to do in life? Aim to become an Olympic athlete? Take over the flower shop? Become a professional dancer? She had less than three years left until people expected her to know what she wanted to do with the rest of her life. What place did some fantastical Digital World have in her future?
Then Kan's singular comment about being surprised about what people don't know snapped her out of it. It left her confused in a completely different way. What kind of cryptic message was that? There were all kinds of massive and dangerous Digimon out there, after all. There's no way something like a fire-breathing t-rex or a gorilla with an arm cannon could just be covered up!
Then Kan started commenting about her rather morbid statement. It sounded absolutely cheesy, but she still nodded and smiled back. "You're right. I think that forgetting the good can be even worse than remembering the bad..." As tacky as it was, a little cheese was pleasant every now and then. He had then offered to give them his old laptop computer. Honoka's jaw dropped for a second, then her expression became stern. Her eyebrows narrowed."That's not nece-" She had to stop herself from outright refusing the man.
As willing as she was to give it, Honoka absolutely despised other people's charity. It just didn't seem right to her to take something for free when she worked so hard for everything she did. But it took a second for the teenage girl to realize that this wasn't about her. And it wasn't like it was her decision in the first place. And her father would likely have no qualms about taking a free computer, considering the blackened evidence already laid out.
So instead the girl bottled up her fragile pride and general insecurities, swallowed it, and gave Kan a respectful bow. "Thank you very much for everything you've done!"

No pity from kan; he knew how hard it was to run a store by yourself. He knew how much it pained people to have to look at this sort of stuff, see their livelihood being dragged down. The man rubbed at his neck; he knew the pain to the point of him having to reach out to the yakuza. Fix things for them, hide people for them, cars, guns… whatever. You name it he had fixed it. But they didn’t have an easy out like that; an out that he was still dealing with the fallout of.
He knew that this computer would help; so why wouldn’t he offer it? He was here to fix their problem with the computer and if giving them a new one would assist with that he would go with it. Something that he knew gretal would be surprised to hear about. Much less see him with the computer she had met him with.
”That’s always the question. Why me? Why this spirit? I had the same when I started and… I still have that question but I understand that the digital world doesn’t always explain things. Don’t worry about it too much; they teach us lessons that we need but there’s always more to it with each person.”
Kan rubbed at his chin and inspected the parts one last time; with all of them there… Well the man sighed. He’d have to be quick about it and started to text Gretal. She was digital side but; she’d be able to get to his shop and get things ready before he would even get back home.
”Just keep on the up and up. All we can do.”
Hearing that she was about to refuse his offer followed immediately by a bow and what he assumed to be a somewhat… forced acceptance he’d just sigh.
”Look. I’m not doing this out of pity or kindness. But from a business aspect. Customers come here for flowers, see you guys have a new computer; wonder where it’s from. Then of course you tell them you got it from me and then they come and check my place out.”
He didn’t get to fully finish before a gruff, if not overly masculine voice could be heard from around the shopkeeps neck. Though it seemed to be a little more lower...
”You are an exceptionally bad liar kan.”
...And that voice projected itself from his digivice; the man scowled and folded his arms while looking down at it. Snyder; his spirit must have been listening in and well… given that they were connected to one another it wasn’t hard for him to speak up with this sort of thing.
”It’s true though.”
”Yeah but when that’s your afterthought rather than what’s… how did you phrase it? ‘The right thing to do?’ You got issues mate.”
The voice let out a small laugh before kan shrugged his shoulders; charity wouldn’t be a good word for it in his opinion but he was also trying to remain cool about the fact he just got outed by a disembodied voice near his chest.
”Well my… employee will be here in an hour or two with the new computer. Seems she’s not as busy as she’d like.”
”Employee, Ex-wife. Same difference right?”
”Sovereigns help me… Snyder…”
”Heh.”

Kan certainly was a quiet type. He seemed a bit like her oldest brother, Daichi. No matter what was going on trying to pull information out of him was difficult, but he was always willing to help someone in need. Hell, if he wasn't living at the university dorms and their father essentially forbidding him from letting the shop distract him from his studies, he'd probably be the one minding the shop right now.
Honoka knew the only thing that could possibly get in the way of them receiving help was her own pride, so she tried to dial it down a bit. It was difficult for the girl, but it didn't mean that she couldn't be grateful, after all. It just made her uncomfortable, as if she were too weak to help herself. But at the same time, she knew that this entire situation wasn't about her. Yet she still hated it for some reason.
Kan thankfully managed to distract the girl with his pondering and Honoka listened intently. In the end, all she was supposed to do was not worry? She looked back to her D-Tector to see Floramon on the screen smiling and waving like always. The ghostly flower always seemed to be wordlessly happy, and to be honest, Honoka found it to be comforting. It's like the spirit was just happy to be alive - so to speak.
"I feel like... If I did receive this Spirit... Even if I don't have some grand destiny, or whatever, I should still do stuff to be helpful, right? Both in the human world and the Digital. I..." She gave a nervous smile as her hands trembled for a second. "The Digital World is still kind of scary for me. There are so many aspects that I don't understand, and the only thing that other humans and Digimon have told me is to just keep at it and eventually I'll learn. I really wish someone made a guidebook out of all this, or some kind of online video tutorial, or something... Though I guess that kind of video series wouldn't exactly go viral, would it...?"
"But the parts of the Digital World I have learned about had both good and bad people in them! So... I feel like I should try and do my best to help those that I can and... stop those that I can't..." She have a nervous chuckle as she began to realize the weight of her words. "Sorry, I must be sounding a little sanctimonious right now!"
Kan began to justify his act of charity and Honoka was about to put her hand up and assure that he needed no explanation, but was interrupted by a voice coming from Kan's Digivice. They shared some back-and-forth until Honoka felt it was appropriate to speak up.
"I assume that's your..." She struggled to find the right word for it. Then again, what exactly did she consider Floramon? "Your partner? It's nice to meet you. My name is Honoka..." She was about to give bow, but stopped herself. "Oh, but you've been present the whole time, haven't you? I guess you'd already know that by now. Sorry!"
