NEXUS: Chapter 2B - Science Fiction
|
Post by Zachary "Zaber" Scryer on May 30, 2020 20:26:48 GMT
Science Fiction:
After the discussion on the Tamer Net, aka the NEXUS forum, Zachary now waited outside the grandiose building that stretched high into Shibuya's skyline. The Tokyo Institute of Technology. It felt nice to chill more in the real world for Zachary, as he was more comfortable there as he wore his blue jacket and felt a cooler air on him today.
The goal today was to meet an old friend of Zachary's one he had met online a while back. An ingenious person-- a kid a year or so younger than Zachary. However, he was wicked smart. Prodigy smart! He was 15 years old and was already in college. While he kept in touch with him, his smarts were well versed in computers, physics, and other concepts that went well over his head.
It had been a while since they talked, even video chatted-- but when Zachary thought of the need to find someone with technical expertise to help with NEXUS, he came to mind!
With his message to his friends in NEXUS, he waited in the commons of the college. If any adult teacher or student asked, they could say they were looking into colleges. Zachary leaned against one of the planters that lined the walkway. On the concrete rest-- Panthermon sat there too. He was cloaked invisible, unseen by the majority of humans that passed by, however, by now Zachary could freely sense where he was, able to tell he was close beside him.
Zachary would check his Digivice Syncro, awaiting word from the others. They would be arriving soon as he checked the clock, reading about a few minutes close to 4PM. With luck, some would show.

Ryuji trotted to the destination mentioned on Tamernet with Yoshihiro in his backpack like he usually was while they were in the Human World. The members of Nexus were called to meet this fifteen year old prodigy that was in college. Yoshihiro wiggled around in the backpack as he said "How is he being in college so special anyway, Ryuji? You graduated from this High School a year early and you aren't some super genius."
"Yoshihiro, we're in the Human World and humans as a whole aren't aware of digimon so keep it down. I graduated a little early through extra hard work not by being a genius." Ryuji replied hoping the little digimon would stay in his backpack unless needed. He'd hate to have to come up with a crazy excuse to explain the tiny digimon's existence. Luckily Yoshihiro usually made this easy since he normally stayed in the backpack.
Soon Ryuji spotted Zachary in front of a grandiose building and ran up to meet him. "Hi Zachary, do you know if anyone else in NEXUS will be showing up?"

A Holo-Suit... what a shameful form of apparently necessary self-abasement. Regrettably, it was evident that the inhabitants of Earth were not yet fully acquainted with her kind, and given DATS policies showing herself in public was likely a terrible idea. Maintaining a good relationship with one of their agents was strenuous enough, hence she did not wish to risk what she had achieved thus far either. A tool to cloak herself with would have been preferred, but evidently whatever means Shadow had to do so was not accessible to her. Oh well, at least her temporary transformation was not too far-off from her original appearance.
With 2000 Bits removed from her figurative purse, which was at best loose change to the affluent lady, Cion had made it herself comfortable in the backpack that Mr. Scryer had to carry with him as to transport her properly. Although foxes were not an odd sight to behold in this reality, they were nonetheless rare pets. Due to aforementioned reasons, it was not in her nor anybody's interest to make her presence known. The pouch the tiny, white fennec resided in was not necessarily cozy, but it sufficed. If nothing else, it allowed her to observe the fascinating workaday life of humans in their natural, metropolitan environment. The colorful sights were... entrancing.
Nevertheless, she hoped that this supposed prodigy would turn out to be a promising candidate for Nexus' managing board. Not because she was too invested in the entire project herself, but mainly for the sake of the lad she counseled. He had already proven himself to be a capable leader several times, but the path he had chosen was never-ending. Would it be another triumph, or his first setback? Above all, how would he deal with either outcome? Today's events were certainly intriguing.

Some time had passed since the last two big adventures in Faustein's life, one being an encounter with a strange void like, anomalous dimension due to a recent glitched update to the Digital World's programming and the other being his temporary imprisonment at Rustport due to the unhappiness of its residents in reaction to his effective but highly dubious medical treatments. Of course, he had broken out and escaped the reach of the long arm of the Rusport law enforcement, so he was once again a free man. Since then, he had gone back to his usual scheduled and regimented life. It was some time after these two events that he had gotten another messgae from NEXUS about a potential ally. So, Faustein had already messaged the Director of Team NEXUS, one Mr. Zachary Scryer, or Zaber as he was more commonly known to all. He had been granted permission to join the day's field activity, namely the investigation and recruitment of a potential new member of Team NEXUS. According to the information on TamerNet, this person was a mere 15 year old boy, but he was no ordinary teenager for he was supposedly attending the prestigious Tokyo Institute of Technology and currently studying several advanced topics in the hard sciences. I wonder what has changed since I graduated from the place? Ah, such fond memories indeed.Faustein mused as he readied himself in his semi-formal city outing ensemble consisting of a simple navy blue blazer, a formal white shirt under that with a crimson red scarf wrapped around his neck. Below he had the standard student-type dark-colored pants and finally ended the attire with thin charcoal gray socks and of course, his favorite pricey light brown sneakers. The hems of said pair of pants were currently folded up slightly. These pants were secured by his usual military style tactical utility belt into the compartments of which he placed the various tools of his trade as well as other miscellaneous items. Normally, he would have worn his usual military style backpack but that would have looked too out of place, so he opted to take his old shoulder bag which was a relic from his student days at Tokyo U. that he had kept around and regularly maintained to be in good condition. In it of course were the usual miscellaneous electronics which would be carried in his regular backpack. His bionic left arm which was hidden from view by his shirt and blazer of course had his digivice, grappling gun, and some other devices which were concealed for the moment. Then, he headed out to the rendezvous location, aka the Tokyo Institute of Technology. It did not take him much time to reach there and soon, he was walking across the Commons to where he could see the leader of NEXUS waiting for the rest of the members to show up for the day's meeting. As he moved across, a gentle zephyr blew which caused his strange shock of seemingly gravity defying whitish-green hair which was tied up in a low ponytail to wave about gently. It was bright with the sunlight streaming everywhere, but thankfully, his polarized lens bearing Google Glasses were present on his face obstructing the sunlight from interfering with his vision too much. It also served a secondary purpose of keeping his strikingly bright crimson red eyes from being noticed by prying eyes until he saw fit to reveal them. Within the next few minutes he had reached the group and saw the young man he knew to be Director Scryer waiting there for the rest of the team to arrive as well. There was also another young man there, but Faustein did not know who he was just yet. Naturally, he presumed this would be revealed in due time, so for the moment, he raised a hand in a slow wave with a polite smile on his thin firm lips while speaking his usual rich baritone but melodious voice which seemed to resonate lightly in air "Faustein reporting for duty, sir. I presume our target has not yet shown up? Or perhaps he has shown up and has gone away for a break or some such activity?"He asked the young man called Zaber and then fell silent, waiting patiently for events to unfold in the situation, secure in the knowledge that were there to be any trouble, he could always simply call his two digimon, Taser the Kokuwamon and Lego the ShadowToyAgumon, from his Xros Loader to protect him. While he waited, he slid the cuff of his blazer back some and checked his HUAWEI smartwatch for the time to ensure that he kept himself on schedule. OOC:Appearance:

Zachary was pretty chill till he saw Ryuji show up. He smiled and waved to him. Panthermon regarded them, sensing them but didn't voice up. Invisible, he probably would remain so unless he spoke. Either way, it wasn't smart for him to jump in and reveal himself in an open space like this.
"More should come but we just gotta see who else shows," Zachary said as he took out his backpack t o check for something. "Anyway, I called ahead and my friend should be-- GHAAA!!" Zachary cried and almost dropped his backpack. Even Panthermon turned in his state to look.
Inside the Bacpack was a certain white fennic fox that Zachary knew as none other than, Cion. The fennic fox Digimon had 'stowed away'. inside his bag and now appeared to be hiding out in there. "Cion?! What the-- When did-- How did you get in my bag?" he exclaimed, trying to keep his tone down despite the surprise.
Panthermon didn't even bat an eye at the silliness and just gave a soft purr that probably the others could hear as well.
Finally, arrived the last one-- a new member who joined via the website and the first time they were meeting face to face. A white-haired kid who appeared to be older than Zachary. He wore a dark jacket, pants and a scarf along with carrying a traditional Japanese bag. It was clear he was the new member how he approached and acted all military at him. A small bit of sweat formed on Zachary's brow as he rose up, not sure what to say with that. "Hi there. Um, at ease?" Zachary replied in military lingo, "Hey there is no need for being so formal. We are all equal and friends here, so no worries. And he isn't a target. he is a friend, and I'd like to see if he would be willing to help us." Zachary explained.
"The big issue is we are exposing ourselves to someone who probably knows little-to-nothing about the Digital World. Even if he is willing to help us, he probably need to adjust to how things work there and between our worlds. " Panthermon's voice spoke out-- coming from out of nowhere. Clearly being invisible, the source would be hidden unless you could tell by sound. Still, he now spoke t o them since they were all present.

Cion crawling into Zaber's bag and caused Ryuji to jump in surprise. "Come on ,Ryuji, I ride in your bag all the time so why are you shocked by another digimon hopping in Zaber's bag?" Yoshihiro chuckled from within the depths of Ryuji's bag as he looked out at the digimon disguised as a fennec fox before he said "I guess this digimon wasn't small enough to fit in Zaber's bag without a holosuit."
"I didn't see her coming either and you didn't use that hearing of yours to warn me." Ryuji said to the Calumon in his backpack.
"I thought I was supposed to keep a low profile, Ryuji." Yoshihiro said with a hint of playfulness to it.
Before Ryuji could say anything to Yoshihiro's words an unknown man made his way unto the scene. Apparently he was a new recruit indicating by his behavior. Then as Zaber and Panthermon explained what they were doing there Yoshihiro poked his head out of Ryuji's bag unbeknownst to his tamer and focused his sharp hearing in the direction of Panthermon by wiggling his large ears.

The silver fennec, calm and patient as she constantly was, had prepared herself to do nothing today than to make it herself relatively comfortable within her director's cramped confines and listen in to the interview which involved a supposed prodigy of Earth. After all, from what she had witnessed, Mr. Scryer was actually someone who valued and heeded the counsel she gave. Why else would her position be that of a mentor to the aspiring leader? Naturally, to be effective in this purpose, she had to be aware of Nexus' undertakings, including recruitments, to pass her advice onto him.
Which was why the lad's reaction was quite surprising, if not outright shocking. Gazing at him with aureate eyes, the entity who was cloaked to look far more like an actual fox, aside from her short, green scarf, did not know what to say. It was better to not speak anyway, hence she let her hidden facial expression voice a thousand words. With an expression of biting doubts, she expressed two crucial things. The first was if the boy had truly not noticed the additional weight on his back. The second was in consideration of the fact that she had no partner, therefor no digivice, to traverse the realms of humanity without notice.
Was this not obvious to Zaber? Besides, did he implicitly question how able she was? Well... at least Shadow got a chuckle out of this. Ryuji and Yoshi were apparently amused by the scene as well. Regardless, it made Cion curious - were was the rest of their sizable brotherhood? Did they have a busy schedule, or were they simply not interested? Quickly, she figured that there was no point in pondering this thought, because their candidate arrived the minute.
And then the Panthermon just decided to talk while invisible. With her eyebrows raised high as the stars of the night sky, she instantly wondered what their previous subtlety had been for. Furthermore, she had seemingly misjudged the savvy of the black feline, because there was no other fitting adjective than daft to describe his bêtise.

Faustein had nodded and then offered a polite smile to everyone present once Zaber/Zachary had informed him that there was no need for formalities and that everyone here was equal and friends as part of Team NEXUS. He also visibly relaxed while remarking about their prospective meeting partner
"Ah, very well then. My apologies, this is a first for me as I have only just joined the team recently. I will keep that in mind henceforth."
He had said and then fell silent while watching with great amusement as Zachary aka Zaber apprently received a big surprise in that he had opened up his backpack, only to find something truly unexpected in there, as Faustein could surmise from his loud startled yelp. Said amusement probably was showing on his lips as they were currently twitched upward into a half smile-half smirk which indicated his bemused state of mind. He was looking around curiously at the others when a voice was heard seemingly out of nowhere, so he began turning his head slowly about this way and that to ascertain the source of the noise. The voice was remarking on how the major problem in the situation was that they were divulging their existence to a third party which, to their knowledge, had no prior contact with or experience in the world of Digimon and its contents. So, Faustein turned back to Zaber/Zachary
"Would this disembodied voice belong to one of our allies, perchance?"
He asked curiously and then went on to address the issue of the person they were supposed to meet with
"So then, what sort of activities would he be helping out with at HQ, if I may ask?"
He asked and then fell silent once more as he waited for events to progress further at their own pace. Hopefully, this person they were all here to meet would show up soon and not keep them waiting much longer.

Zachary heard them and went to briefly explain as he rose from the bench-- while Panthermon remained hidden and he kept his backpack close. "So, basically as I explained on the forum, if we want to add to our group and get other tamers involved, we need more than a simple forum," he began. "The Digital world is a big place, filled with a technological concept none of us can really understand. We need someone who could understand HOW the digital world works and perhaps even add to our needs with their technical expertise. "
As he explained this, he looked to the university building. "Luckily I have an internet friend who is now enrolled in the Tokyo Institute of Technology. He is the smartest computer science person I know," he said, "Thing is I don't think he knows about Digimon or the Digital World. It's a bit of a risk but if we can get him to join us, even if he isn't a tamer, he may be able to help us grow as a group. Fact is, we need someone with that kind of intelligence and skill to help reach and protect other tamers and Digimon."
Panthermon gave a soft growl from the 'shadows'. "Well, I'm convinced," he said.
Zach rolled his eyes as he looked at his friends, human and digimon. "Anyway, I arranged a meeting with him when he isn't in class, so let's go. "
They soon entered the university, which was as pristine inside as it was inside. Following the directions Zachary/Zaber had emailed to him, the room they needed to find was on the 9th floor, in the computer labs. Apparently, the guy had a private lab scheduled to use for his projects. They luckily ran into no other obstacles as they were before the lab.
Lab 924 at the end of the hall.
With a mild moment of hesitation, Zachary reached up and knocked on the door with his fist.
"Come in. It's open," a voice called.
After a moment, Zachary opened the door to let them all inside. Even Panthermon while still invisible.
The inside of the computer lab was dark, alit by mostly the computer screens running on the different tables. It wasn't mere monitors too as there were hard drives on the computers, along with some serious teched-out towers for high computer processing, server storage and other tools. The kind of computer gear used for high-grade supercomputer processing.
At the end of the room was a single person, his back to them as he typed vigorously on the computer, writing and spitting out lines of computer code. His glasses reflected the code he wrote as he didn't even turn around to even say hello.
Zachary smiled lightly, even though his friend didn't turn to him. "You know, you really should turn around when a person enters the room," he joked.
"Sorry but just running some calculations to a decryption algorithm to help with a project I am doing for my applied computer science course. Atop of some personal physics calculations for a project, I am working on," he explained with a superior tone. "Still, I was surprised you wanted to meet me. You seemed... insistent to meet. And with friends?"
Zachary smiled sheepishly as he looked to his friends. Hopefully, the Digimon of the group would keep hidden for the moment. "Guys, this is Logan. My internet penpal and the guy I hoped could be the solution to our 'programming problems', " he said, using the code word programming problem to substitute any mention of the digital world.
"Hello," Logan said without even flinching from his computer screen.
(Continuing with the mission--- thank you for the wait guys)

Yoshihiro listened from within the depths of Ryuji's backpack as Zachary explained everything. Since this human knew likely nothing about the Digital World or digimon, he was wise enough to not only stay concealed from sight but to continue keeping an ear out for things seemed to be getting more interesting.
Ryuji followed Zachary and likely his invisible partner as well until they walked into a lab where someone was typing away at a computer. After mentioning he was working on a project he soon introduced himself as Logan. While decryption programs weren't Ryuji's field of expertise he had to admit at some level it was interesting. Deciding to introduce himself as well he offered his hand in an attempt at a handshake before he said "Nice to meet you, Logan. My name is Ryuji." As always the messy haired teen carried himself with a sense of seriousness in his demeanor. With luck he would come off as somewhat professional too.

Faustein noticed how Logan was steadily typing away at his keyboard, working on what seemed to be decryption programming
Quite the skilled ally we have come to recruit here...perhaps I can learn to advance my own programming skills from him sometime...
Faustein mused briefly while watching Ryuji go up and attempt a handshake with Logan and after that was done, Faustein went up and introduced himself to Logan as well with a handshake to accompany it as per the usual norms of decorum
"I am Dr. Stein. Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Logan."
Then, he glanced briefly at the computer screen at which Logan had been working and then turned back to Logan, remarking
"Decryption programming, eh? If I may ask, which is your preferred cipher from among Caesar, Vigenère, and Affine and which one are you currently using? Also, perhaps we can talk shop sometime in the near future as I am looking to further my own proficiency in this area of programming expertise."
Then, he fell silent to see what Logan would say and what the reactions of the others in the group would be like to his remarks.
