It wasn't long after meeting Hachi that a duo of local Digimon "ambushed" them. Unfortunately, the Dokunemon was unable to get out of the way of Wormmon's Sticky Net, and became caught up in the webbing. Monmon and Vegiemon were not the only Digimon to show up, as a humanoid butterfly Digimon shows up. She asks the two ambushers about the tied up Dokunemon and the other intruders.
Vegiemon shakes his head, confirming it was not him who tied up Hachi. It appears as though Wormmon became quite enthralled with this new Digimon. Monmon loads his slingshot and takes aim at the Worm King. Wormmon notices the chimp going on the offensive. Monmon releases the slingshot and launches a small round fruit at Wormmon. The Worm King jumps up and turns, deflecting the fruit with his tail.
While the maneuver did deflect the attack, leaving only a small bruise, the fruit flies straight towards Dante and bonks him in the head. The self isolated Tamer grabs his head and groans in agony. He staggers around for a bit until he stops seeing stars. Wormmon appears concerned for his Tamer, putting his front legs up in a shrugging motion. It was accidental, but it did bring Wormmon some joy seeing Dante in pain.
Monmon poses with his hands on his hips, smugly enjoying the satisfaction of hitting both Dante and Wormmon. "These intruders won't be a problem for long. We can take them! Right, Veg?" Vegiemon sneers at the trio, raising his vines in the air and preparing to go on the offensive. "Just give the word, boss, and these pests will be outta your hair."

"Hm... it seemed like he was tied up by a Wormmon," Hudiemon concluded as she looked at the material that the bug was wrapped up with. "Perhaps it was a mistake to send you two out here since they do a fine job at trapping themselves. No insult to either of your competencies, of course."
"Being tied up is fine and dandy, but I do request to be able to move please," Hachi requested in a condescending tone. He really didn't feel like being held captive right now.
The Hudiemon simply ignored the Dokunemon's request. "Vegiemon, grab the intruder and make sure that he does not escape. I trust that you can do that?" While Vegiemon was hopefully doing what was asked of him, Hudiemon flew over a little ways to see how Monmon was doing with the other intruders. From her perspective of what just went down, that reinforced her view that the intruders were pretty stupid.
Monmon and Vegiemon were eager to finish off these three. Hudiemon simply raised her hand towards them. "No need. The most competent one has been tied up, these two will be no problem for me." She pulled out some rope and handed some to Monmon. "Tie up the human's hands while I tie up the Wormmon."
The two of them could definitely try to escape, but in Wormmon's case, it would be a lot harder as Hudiemon was stronger than him in this current form. Hachi raised an eyebrow. "So why are we being held captive? Did we break the law?"
"We are simply protecting our village's most treasured artifact from lowlife thieves like the both of you."
"Artifact? Interesting, I'm looking for a kind of artifact as well."
"Then I suppose that means we were correct to capture you. As for your fate... well, let's just say it'll be a miracle if you survive."

It was clear that this new Digimon did not think too highly of these intruders. Hudiemon is getting on Wormmon's nerves. The Worm King raises an antennae and stands with his front legs on his hips. "Who do you think you are, bigshot?! I'll go where I please, home girl."
Dante was expecting Vegiemon to attack, but their leader instructs them to tie up the intruders, seeing as how Hachi is already caught in Wormmon's net. "You think we are just going to let you tie us up? Preplatypus!" "I think you mean preposterous. Let's go along with it for now." "Oh, of course you would like where this is going."
Dante walks forward and raises his hands out in submission. Vegiemon grabs his wrists and twists them behind his back, wrapping a vine around them. "Aww man, not the popo again. You guys are profiling insects and hairy pale dorks!" Wormmon stubbornly goes along with Hudiemon's requests. Monmon snickers as Vegiemon goes to tie up Wormmon.
"Haha! That's what you losers get for messing with our village!" Vegiemon ties a vine around Monmon, tying him to Wormmon. "What the Dark Area?" "He's little, and sneaky. You have to keep him close." "Tied to this primate? This day just keeps getting better."
Vegiemon then proceeds to tie up Hachi. He rounds up the suspects and salutes to Hudiemon. Wormmon is noticeably upset, but Dante appears calm. "We mean no harm to your village. The two of us came here to get away from it all, not steal your artifacts." "Just keep your paws off me, and I won't send you into oblivion later." Dante knows that if push came to shove, Wormmon could Digivolve. If it meant avoiding a battle right now, the exile is willing to go along with this. Now he can learn more about Hachi and this village. "You better feed us!"

Annoyed by how much Wormmon was being a loudmouth, Hudiemon decided to tie up Wormmon's mouth as well, halting his ability to speak. "There we go, this will go much smoother now that the loud one is quiet. And yes Monmon, Vegiemon is correct, I don't trust that one to NOT run off on us."
Now that everyone was trapped and accounted for, Hudiemon would lead the group down the jungle to where they planned to throw these prisoners. As they traveled, Dante insisted that they weren't trying to steal their village's artifact. "You were with this Dokunemon who just admitted he was."
"I believe all I said was that I was looking for a kind of artifact," Hachi said as he was being carried by Hudiemon. "But in reality yes, it is most likely your artifact. And it will be mine."
"Not unless we have anything to say about it. The totem containing our village's founder Stingmon can only be used by who he deems worthy to wield his spirit."
"Well then maybe I'm the one. You never know. Just let me know where it is and I'll just go see if I'm worthy and be on my way." Hopefully Vegiemon or Monmon were dumb enough to tell him the location of the spirit...

As they are rounding up the prisoners, Hudiemon decides to cover Wormmon's big sideways mouth to prevent him from speaking. Despite Wormmon's protests, Dante doesn't seem to mind that much. The Worm King flails around, his head bopping up and down. When Dante denied that he had any intention of stealing their artifacts, Hudiemon mentions that they are traveling with Dokunemon who said he was looking for an artifact. The Dokunemon riding on Hudiemon states that he will get the artifact he seeks.
"We don't know that bug. It was only a while after we crossed paths that your goons jumped us. What kind of corrupt ruling is this where we get taken hostage for walking down a trail?"
Vegiemon seems quite irritated that Dokunemon believes he is worthy of wielding the totem. "You don't know what you are getting yourself into. Only a really strong Digimon can wield the spirit of our founder." "Maybe he should take the test, so so we can watch him fail horribly."
Vegie gets annoyed with his compadre suggesting that and smacks him on the back of his head with one of his vines. Not having anything to do, Dante continues walking along with the village's security force. The soles of his shoes have worn down significantly since coming to the jungle, and his feet are sore. This certainly seemed like a strange trio of Digimon. Monmon had been quite rude, and clearly has issues with Wormy, but it appears as though he gets dumped on quite a bit by the other Digimon.
"Is this how they always talk to you?" "Ya, but you get used to it. I'm not as strong as some of the Digimon in our village." "Well, that is no reason to disrespect you, is it?"
Vegiemon sneers at the captured Tamer. His vines slither across the ground and trip Dante's leg, causing him to fall face first into some stinging needles. The Veg cackles with delight as Dante groans and start scratching his face vigorously. "Watch your step, human. Hee hee hee!" Wormmon jerks his body to the side, tugging on the vine and causing Monmon to bump into Hudiemon. It is clear that the Worm King isn't happy with Hudiemon's round up.
"Grr, stupid flying skank thinks she's so great. I'm going to put this stupid monkey in a cage and serve Vegie head in a side salad. The Worm King is not amused!"
Dante continues itching his face with his shoulder. His patience was starting to wear thin. The whole reason they came to this jungle was to get away from it all. Maybe Hachi knows something about the artifact he is seeking. The Dokunemon appears quite confident that he will get the relic.
"Hachi, are you sure this is the right place? These natives do not seem that welcoming to outsiders." "Ya? Well you wouldn't roll out the red carpet if your village had been through what we went through." This seemed to be a sore spot. "Oh? Please, do tell." "Well, you are not the first thieves to come to our village." Wormmon gets aggravated being called a thief, and Dante is none too pleased as well. "Again, I don't want your dang relic. Wormmon can transform to Stingmon just fine."
Vegiemon scolds Monmon for talking to the prisoners. Dante continues to study the behavior of these Digimon. The three of them don't seem too friendly, and Hudiemon is certainly their leader, but then Vegiemon turns around and bosses Monmon around. This information could prove useful. Maybe once they reach the village, they will let their guard down.

I cannot say that he didn't have that coming, Hachi thought as he watched Hudiemon tie up the Wormmon's big mouth. He thought he talked too much anyways, Hudiemon was practically doing everyone else a favor by shutting him up like that. Did he ALWAYS talk that much?
Dante claims to not know Hachi before asking why they're being taken hostage for walking down a trail. "Multiple Digimon have tried to steal this Stingmon's power, because it is unlike other Stingmon. It has the power to poison and hurt others in a much worse way than physical attacks. All those who tried to steal before have walked down that very trail."
"Sounds like my spirit then. I am able to poison others as well."
Monmon suggested that Hachi take the test anyways to watch him fail, only to be smacked by Vegiemon. "Nonono, Monmon has a point. Let me take the test, so I can prove that I truly am the worthy owner of this special Stingmon totem."
"Even if you were worthy, we wouldn't let you just take it. It is precious to us."
"Well that complicates things a bit, so you all might just have to lose the totem for my benefit."
Hudiemon was about to argue something back, but that was when Wormmon managed to cause Monmon to bump into her. While Monmon was one of the weaker Digimon, Hudiemon wasn't a monster and disrespected him. She knew Wormmon caused it, and glared right at him, saying no words.
Eventually the group reached the jungle village, complete with houses that hung from trees as well as bridges connecting these houses. The local businesses were still on the ground however, and most of these Digimon had wings so traveling between the two levels was easy enough. The group walked past the town center, which housed a large wooden statue of a Stingmon with his forearm blades out. Hachi smirked; he could just sense that the totem was within the statue.
"Well this has been fun but alas," Hachi said before vanishing altogether. Whatever was tying him up was completely cut, and little scuttling footsteps could be heard running away. He completely abandoned Dante and Wormmon, how rude.
"Did either of you know about that ability?! I'll look after these other two, you just find that Dokunemon!" Hudiemon commanded to Vegiemon and Monmon. Hachi uses "In the Shadows" to escape.

It was less than pleasant going along with Hudiemon while bound. Maybe if Dante could keep Wormmon and Monmon from fighting, things wouldn't go awry. The group reaches the jungle village, a nice little town with houses in trees. They reach a building with a unique Stingmon statue. Wormmon marvels at the insect statue, hopping up and down.
Hudiemon had made it clear that they had no intention of handing over any artifacts, so Hachi decides to take action. Sensing the artifact in inside the statue, the Dokunemon uses a cloaking ability to disappear into the shadows. Dante is surprised to see Hachi take off.
"Uh, Hachi? I don't think you are supposed to do that."
Dante continued playing dumb and harmless. Hudiemon questions her underlings and commands them to search for Hachi. The duo frantically follow Hudiemon's orders. For a bunch of goons, they did show loyalty to their superior. Vegiemon heads towards the statue, raising his vines out in multiple directions to try and snare the cloaked bug. Monmon tries scouting the area, but Wormmon bolts towards the statue, pulling Monmon along.
Wormmon poses next to the statue with Monmon looking confused and frustrated. Dante struggles to reach for his phone while his wrists are bound and starts taking pictures of Wormmon next to the statue. It made Dante happy to see Wormmon so excited. Monmon tugs on the vine and continues to look around for Hachi, but Wormmon tugs back. The two Rookies get into a tug of war, but Wormmon stops pulling and uses the momentum to slingshot himself head first into the primate.

If it wasn't completely obvious to Dante and Wormmon by this point, Hachi had completely abandoned them. He didn't know them, their personalities clashed, why should he worry about their safety? If they're smart and strong they could get themselves out of this jam if they wanted to. Hachi's goal at this moment was to crack the statue wide open and get the totem inside.
The only question was, how?
As he ran around the area cloaked, he noticed how it was Vegiemon that was primarily guarding the statue, using his vine arms to try and grab Hachi. That gave him an idea, which was a risky one since he could either be grabbed or squashed like a mosquito if he wasn't quick enough.
Still invisible, Hachi used his Dokunemon legs to climb up onto the statue, specifically the neck/chest area of the Stingmon, taking a moment to "roll" his eyes upon seeing the antics the human and his Wormmon was up to. Yeesh, good thing I abandoned you two morons, Hachi thought. He then deactivated his invisibility move before calling out to the Vegiemon. "You weren't looking for me, were you?"
If all went according to plan, Vegiemon would punch the area Hachi was, breaking a hole in the statue if Hachi jumped out of the way in time. Afterwards would be a very bright glow, the Stingmon totem levitating out of the statue and slowly moving towards Hachi... Hachi deactivates "Into the Shadows" and begins to taunt Vegiemon into attacking.

Dante didn't know what to do when Hachi suddenly disappeared. As Vegiemon is waving his vines around in the air, the Dokunemon appears on the neck of the statue. Vegiemon quickly turns his attention to the statue and sends a bundle of vines shooting towards Dokunemon. Dante realizes what Hachi is doing when the attack damages the statue and the spirit totem comes out.
The guards are enraged that Hachi has the totem. Vegiemon flails his vines along the ground, kicking up a gust of thorns to slow Hachi. Wormmon and Monmon are cut by the thorns. Sensing that a fight is unavoidable, Dante gives the nod to Wormmon signaling it is time to Digivolve. Wormmon's restraints break as a green aura of energy rises from his body. Wormy Digivolves to his Champion form Stingmon. He cocks his wrist as his energy cannon charges up energy.
"Ho ya! King of Sting time! You're coming with me, you filthy baboon." Stingmon grabs Monmon by the tail and jets up into the air. The primate screams in terror as Stingmon soars around in the sky. Stingmon increases altitude and drops Monmon. Just before Monmon plummets to the ground, Stingmon swoops down and catches him. Stingmon throws Monmon into Vegiemon, sending them tumbling into the base of the statue.
When no one is looking, Dante sneaks off and takes cover behind a tree. He reaches into his pocket and takes out a lighter, using it to burn the vines around his wrists and break free. "That's more like it. Time for a smoke." Dante takes out a cigarette and lights it up. He takes a few steps back and looks over to watch the fight.

Hachi smirked; his plan was a success. The dummy Vegiemon actually managed to bust open the statue, allowing the Stingmon totem statue to be taken by its rightful owner, who was indeed going to be Hachi. Deactivating his Sprite spirit form, he pulled his D-Tector out and pointed it at the totem, allowing it to be sucked right into the device.
Before long, fractal code would appear on Hachi's free hand. Now having a good clue about doing such a thing, Hachi scanned that code with his D-Tector. "Spirit... Evolution! Stingmon!"
And just like that, the high school boy had disappeared. In his place was now a Digimon that most would definitely recognize, which was indeed a Stingmon. He then notices that the Wormmon had Digivolved into a Stingmon as well, and was now giving a good ol' fashioned one-two to the Monmon, and even taking Vegiemon along for a beating as well when Monmon was thrown into him, causing them both to crash into the statue and destroy what was left of it.
"You... you..."
"I'm afraid that I cannot play any longer, as I already have what I came for. I appreciate the goodbye gift of the totem though, and I will be in your debt. Goodbye." And just like that, Hachi used his Digiport to just bolt away from the scene, once again abandoning Dante and Stingmon to deal with Hudiemon.
Guess all he cared about was the totem after all.
