LIFE BEHIND BARS (MPC 75B: IMPRISONED) [COMPLETE]

As Stein collapsed to the ground, Honoka felt a small ping of guilt as the man tumbled over. It passed quickly, however. She had never understood how guys were supposed to get anything done when such an obvious weak spot in that area. If it really was so devastating, shouldn't all guys have protective cups built into their underwear or something?
Deputymon burst into laughter as Stein received his comeuppance, but started to question the prone mad scientist. She supposed that a Digimon wouldn't know about that weak spot, or that the man might need some more time to respond. Instead the girl took it upon herself to speak to the revolver Digimon. And she'd rather not hear his voice in a pained soprano rather than his usual baritone.
"Warden! Please give me another chance to explain myself!" Honoka pleaded, hoping she had garnered enough goodwill. "I'm definitely not an enemy, and if we get the chance to talk with cool heads I think you'll get to see that!"

Despite his present agony, Faustein could not help but raise his head slightly and flash a smug, albeit pained smirk at the Deputymon when it had asked him about his intention to work together with the other prisoners to orchestrate a prison breakout/riot and then use the ensuing confusion to escape the clutches of justice. "Ah, so you DO have a brain underneath that veritable panoply of ranged firearms and ammunition belts, after all, warden. It had initially seemed that you did not, considering how swiftly you came to the decision to imprison such a malign influencer as myself here amongst all of these..."desperados" as you call them."However, this move consisting of an incensing smirk and the followup disparaging reply to goad the Deputymon into action was not just one made by Faustein to display his narcissistic arrogance and superiority complex toward the Deputymon. No, in fact, it was also one of the setup phase of the new escape plan he had devised while laying there crumpled in pain. However, it was not yet time to initiate the main phase of this new plan, so for the time being, he simply laid his head face down to the ground again and maintained his collapsed posture, clutching his groin area and continuing to let his body utter convincing groans of pain now and then for cover. Meanwhile, he let his keen ears take in the conversation between Honoka and the Deputymon. Deputymon had been about to address Faustein in a very irritated manner "Why you little twerp! I oughta..."Unfortunately for it, Honoka had started to talk just then and so, attracted the Deputymon's attention towards her. Apparently, she was going through with her own plan to mollify the Deputymon's ire towards her by urging the Deputymon to hear her side of the story and then converse with her in a cool, composed manner This girl does not seem to be the type to listen to reason or learn from experience. Oh well, let us see when her path leads us and how HER efforts can be used to MY advantage to facilitate the enactment of this new escape plan.Faustein thought silently while surreptitously listening to the Deputymon addressed Honoka with a quizzical and somewhat aggressive manner "Oh ya do, huh?! Well then, let's hear it! Start flappin' those gums of yers, girly! Ya better hope for yer sake that yer apology is a good one! Otherwise, yer gonna git lynched just like that one."It said while swinging its gun barrel in the direction of Faustein in an attempt to nod at him. Then, it fell silent and waited for Honoka to explain her side of the story, though odds are it would not believe a word of her apology. OOC:WC:- Post WC: 464

Honoka had to suppress her anger as Stein began taunting and mocking the warden. Seriously, she was trying to talk to Deputymon while it was calm, and now the man was trying to egg the Digimon on? She understood that she had probably just ruined his plans of a jailbreak somehow, but was he really trying to keep her here? What kind of crab mentality bullcrap was that!?
Still, Deputymon had enough sense in it to at least hear the girl out, though it's tone didn't assure her of anything remotely resembling a level head. Still, what it said bothered her. A lynching? Like, a metaphorical lynching or a literal one? Was Deputymon planning on executing the man beside her? He was a little kooky to be sure, but from what he explained, it didn't seem like he had killed anybody? Didn't that seem like a bit of an extreme punishment? And what was this talk of Honoka being lynched? For essentially tripping a police officer!?
Still... Deputymon must have had a bad day. It got tripped up while chasing some Kamemon for doing goodness-knows-what, it had to deal with this irritating, smug, overly-verbose, annoying, condescending, know-it-all jerk... Plus it was possible that the Digimon just plain hated humans. After meeting someone like Stein, who wouldn't? Still... she needed to get Deputymon to trust her somehow. She stepped back from the bars, giving her space to bow her head.
"I didn't mean to get in the way of your job, Warden Deputymon!" She began, keeping her head down in the bow. "This is my first time in Rustport, and as soon as I got off the train, I heard a Digimon screaming for help! I saw Kamemon being chased by a much larger Digimon, so I did everything in my power to help it!" She looked up to meet Deputymon's gaze. "I know I shouldn't have taken... that kind of stuff upon myself, but surely you can understand what it's like to see someone in need, right?"
She pulled out her Digivice and offered it to the warden Digimon. "The truth is, I probably could have fought back and escaped when you tried to arrest me..." She admitted. "I might have even been able to break out of here if I really wanted to put my mind to it. But just running away wouldn't have sat right with me! Just like keeping silent while my cellmate tried to include me in his plans for a jailbreak!"
Stein had called her naive earlier, and to an extent, Honoka agreed with herself. But at the same time, mistrusting everyone around you wasn't a way to live. She had to believe that... well... you could believe in others. Word Count:

As Faustein listened while still keeping up his pained groaning act, the Deputymon had taken the time to hear Honoka's apology. She was going on about how she should not have interfered with the law as she did, and had also appealed to the Deputymon's morality "Yer right, you shouldn't have gone and done that, girly! The office of sheriff exists for a reason, ya know! So you civilian types dun go gettin' involved in dangerous business! That Kamemon is known repeat crook around these here parts, and thanks to yer interference, now I gotta start mah search for the dang criminal back at square one! Perhaps you shoulda stopped and thought 'bout why exactly an officer of the law is chasing a target before jumpin' the gun like that!"After this short tirade whilst glaring at Honoka, the Deputymon calmed down and uttered a sighing sort of noise, though due to the construction of its body, the resultant noise came out in a rather eerie, metallic, rattling sort of way. Then, it resumed talking, still with that stereotypical cowboy manner of speech "However, since this is yer first offense, I'll let it slide this time! Do this again, and ya won' be so lucky! Ya hear me, girly?!" At that point, Honoka had handed it her digivice and then went on about how she could have escaped at any time if she so desired, but did not out of interest of goodwill garnering. Deputymon examined the digivice and then looked back at Honoka "Shucks, yer really this trustin' and naive to jus' hand over yer precious digivice to me? How do ya know I won' jus' confiscate it, eh girly?"It asked her and then fell silent, waiting for her reply while also thinking about when to hold Faustein's lynching to punish him for his crimes against the citizens of Rustport. Honoka took back her Digivice once Deputymon finished his lecture, but Honoka couldn't help but feel a little annoyed. It wasn't lie Deputymon had announced that he was a police officer, or anything... how the hell was she supposed to know that? Plus, constantly being called "girly" was started to get a little grating. Still, she kept the irritation off her face as she maintained a polite smile. And when he asked her how she knew the Deputymon wouldn't just confiscate it, she nodded.
"I didn't know, warden!" She replied. "But it's important to trust the authorities, right? After all, if I can't trust you, then who else can I trust in this world?"
Still... something didn't quite sit right with her. She looked over towards Stein, still on the ground and obviously in pain. He was definitely a creep and she wouldn't mind if she never met the man again in her life, but still... If Deputymon was serious about hanging Stein, she couldn't just let that pass.
She sighed, because she didn't want to. But appealing for Stein's life was the right thing to do.
"And forgive me for... intruding, but is there any chance that you can... not execute Stein-san? I don't think killing him would be the right way to bring about justice..." She twiddled her thumbs nervously, unsure how Deputymon was going to respond to Honoka's rather soft-spoken appeal. "I don't know the details, but it's not like he killed anyone during his... mad science spree, right? So if he hurt the community, then shouldn't the appropriate punishment be... community service, or something? That's assuming he doesn't actually try to break out, and he apologizes fully for his actions! But killing someone just doesn't... fix the people that were hurt, you know?" Word Count:

The discussion had been dragging on for so long that Faustein had actually started to doze off now that the pain had receded quite a bit. So, he had decided to take advantage of this and started to pretend to be completely unconscious, as if the pain had overwhelmed him to the point that it had shut down his brain and body, albeit only temporarily. He even went so far as to lower his breathing rate down to tactical breathing level and arranged his body in such a way that only the most trained physicians could pierce the illusion he was presenting now. Of course, the reality was that, despite the fact that he was laying face down on the ground and absolutely still, he was very much conscious and cognizant of what was going on around him.
This girl does not learn easily, I see. Oh well, perhaps whenever she comes face to face with true malice present in the world, she will have the same epiphany that came to me during my youth.
Meanwhile, the conversation was still occurring between the Deputymon sheriff and Honoka. The Deputymon first addressed the query that Honoka had put to it.
"There are handful of counter-arguments that could potentially be made to yer remark, but that's a can o' worms that probably should not be opened here. So, how's about we just call a truce and agree to disagree here?"
However, when she tried to suggest that Faustein not be executed, but just be forced into community service to atone for his sins against the citizens of Rustport, the Deputymon refused outright with a shrug to accompany it
"Oh no, you see...what he did to mah constituency is something FAR worse than death. In fact, death would be a welcome release from the suffering they're goin' through now due to his zany treatments. So, the decision to lynch this jerkwad ain't mine, it's the cry of the fair mon of Rustport. Unless yer confident in yer ability to convince all 600 of 'em to forgive 'im, this lynching will go ahead on schedule."
The Deputymon finished remarking while scratching its head with a quizzical look on its face, or what little could be seen of it. Then, it paused for a while but then resumed with one final comment, this one a query
"That aside, why are ya stickin' up for 'im, girly? I thought you hated 'im cuz he was a jerk to ya all this while."

Honoka took one more look at Stein as he slumped to the ground. She didn't think she hit him that hard that he'd pass out from the pain. She began to wonder if he was just that weak, or if she caused a lot more damage than she initially thought she did. She pressed her lips into a frown as she gave a small shrug. Oh, well. A guy like him probably wasn't going to have any kids, regardless.
She turned her attention back to Deputymon as it questioned her on her motives for appealing for Faust's life. "Disliking someone and wanting them to die are two very different things," She answered. "Humans don't get to be reborn like Digimon, after all. We only get one life to work with and..." She tilted her head towards the unmoving mad scientist at her feet. "Most of us try and make the most our lives and others, even if some don't do the same..." She looked back to Deputymon with clear, unwavering eyes. "But we only get one shot at this! So if someone's doing something wrong, then you should make them correct their actions instead of ceasing them entirely!"
She clenched her fist and let out a deep sigh before continuing. "So if I have to go all over town and convince six-hundred people to forgive him, I'll do it! Even though he's a creepy, annoying, tactless, unreasonable jerk!" Word Count: You know damn well I forgot how to count during that tragic incident of '09. You should be ashamed for even asking that. Who raised you, that scary vampire from sesame street? He was always so terrifying, I couldn't watch him on screen. Then again, maybe that's why I don't know how to count...

The Deputymon still did not agree with Honoka, but then standing around and talking to her was starting to give it a headache, so it just decided the best course of action would be to agree with her instead.
"Well, fine, suit yerself."
With that, it unlocked the prison cell door and then stepped inside, picked up Faustein's unmoving form and then heaved him out after which it stood aside to let Honoka walk out as well. Upon seeing this, the rest of the digimon in the prison cells around them began to clamor and boo them, but the Deputymon paid them no mind, and simply carried Faustein out while leading Honoka out into the streets as well. Faustein let himself be carried several meters away before finally enacting his plan. He spoke the words necessary to activate the Digi-Port function on his digivice
Digi-Port, open.
In response a medium sized Digi-Portal opened up about a foot away from the group and then sucked Faustein out of the grasp of the Deputymon and into it, instantly allowing him to escape to the human world's Shibuya Station which was the connection point between the Human World and the Digital World. Then, he wasted no time in hailing a cab and having it transport him off to his house. Meanwhile, Honoka would be left to her own devices to do whatever else she wanted to do in the aftermath of his escape.
