Desolate Tundra, a mountainous place of harsh snow and biting winds. Despite the area's surprising beauty one figure traveling through the biting storm was hardly enjoying the conditions. A while back Stacy had obtained an EV Suit but, even though she was using it to protect her from the harsh climate, she shivered as she trudged in snow that was waist deep. Maybe it was the mere thought of the whether or perhaps it was the fact that snow had gotten into the boots she was wearing. Either way, she was all to eager to find cover from the storm. Even though she was wearing the EV Suit, her leather coat was zipped up tight and her hands were stuffed in her pockets.
The landscape Stacy traveled was blurry and it wasn't just from the snow blowing around her. As the winds had picked up she had removed her glasses seeing as her glasses had become a hinderance as the snow stuck to the lenses and blocked her view. So as of now they were resting in her left pocket with her D-Tector. Scanning the blurry landscape with her bad eyes she had to squint to make out anything but figured she could make do with what sight she had since in most cases it proved true for her.
An hour later, however, it seemed to her she was wandering in circles. In the storm every thing looked the same to her but, with her lousy sense of direction, for all she knew she could of been heading back the way she came. Coming to a stop in the waist deep snow she glanced at her pocket pulling out her D-Tector as it had begun beeping. That was strange considering it hadn't done that before. Maybe there was something she wasn't sensing. Then a thought came to mind 'Why the hell am I traveling waist deep in snow when I can digivolve into a wolf. I should have done this ages ago since wolves maneuver in snow much easier than humans.' Shaking her head at her own stupidity she began the evolution sequence. Fractal coding appeared around her right hand before she ran her hand over the top of her D-Tector. "Execute! Sprite Spirit Evolution!" she exclaimed before being enveloped in warm holy light. As the light faded a wolf howl pierced the air and a small white wolf became visible. "Hinookamimon!"
Hinookamimon sprinted atop the snow as if barely making contact with the white powder itself. Brown eyes which had much better eyesight than the average human made out the image of a mountain in the distance. What was strange was she was the mountain was alive with holy energy. Perplexed by this, Hinookamimon picked up the pace heading for the mountain. It was odd she couldn't see the energy as a human but maybe this was just a digimon thing. If that was the case, then such a thing could probably be picked up by any digimon nearby. Whether that was good or bad was unknown at this point but as fast as she was moving she had a feeling she would find out soon enough.
Soon Hinookamimon reached the glowing mountain and looked around soon spotting a cave at the base of the mountain. The mouth of the cave was wide as well as tall. Entering the cave she soon saw a wide and spacious cavern with multiple stalactites and stalagmites that were at least a few feet around or more. Coming to a stop, Hinookamimon shook to rid her fur coat of excess moisture before she returned to her human state. Reaching into her left coat pocket, she pulled out her glasses and placed them back on her face. Seeing normally, Stacy glanced around and spotted a tunnel in the back of the chamber.
Figuring the tunnel was better than the biting blizzard outside, Stacy headed to the back of the chamber and into the tunnel. The tunnel started out dark but as she walked the walls began glowing with golden writing that lit the chamber. Stacy stopped momentarily to examine the glowing writing on the wall. Reaching out she ran her hand along the letters finding them warm but soothing like the light that enveloped her when she digivolved. Though the writing made no sense to her, she seemed to be instinctively pulled deeper into the cave. Something was back there and Stacy had a feeling that it was important. Soon she reached a curious chamber at the end of the tunnel that had what looked like three slabs that seemed to be made of a curious combination of metal and stone. In front of the slabs was what seemed to be a control panel.
As Stacy approached the slabs, a metal wall came down behind her sealing off the tunnel she came from. 'Great, unless this panel opens the tunnel my only way out is through using a digiport.' she thought as she continued forward. Just as she almost reached the control panel metallic hands came up from the floor and seized ahold of her wrists. Before she knew it her arms were bound behind her back and she was forced down onto her knees.
As Stacy began struggling in an effort to free herself, a disembodied voice sounded throughout the room. "Halt intruder, though you possess the power of the ancient digimon Hinookamimon, Blitzwolfmon, Nanamimon, and a fraction of LupineCerberusmon that hardly means you are worthy of the spirit I guard. The completed form of the Beast Spirit LupineCerberusmon."
"What do I need to do to prove my worth? For each of my spirits I have overcome many difficult challenges." Stacy said as she tried to struggle free again but still to no avail.
"I have scanned your memories of each of those challenges but strength enough won't allow you to overcome all challenges, human." the voice said causing Stacy to become affronted that her memories were invaded without her permission but she remained silent as the voice continued "Neither will your reliance on any companions. So to prove your worth I require you to solve five riddles."
"Seriously, all I have to do is solve riddles?" Stacy asked incredulously.
"Correct but I suggest you think clearly before you answer each riddle for failing even one will have a grave consequence." the voice replied as the restraints that bound Stacy began to hum with life. "Should you answer one wrong the restraints that bind you will vaporize you on the spot."
"I know various members of my family have told me to think before I speak but this is more than a little excessive." Stacy grumbled. Then out loud she said "All right, I'm ready. What is the first riddle?"
"What is the only 5 letter word that becomes larger when you add the letter “r” to it?" the voice asked plainly.
'Only five letter word that becomes larger when you add the letter R. Looks like an easy answer but there is no guarantee all the riddles will be a breeze.' Stacy thought. Then she said "The only word is large."
"Correct but the other riddles will not be as easy as that one. Now for the second riddle. You can find me in the Earth, Mercury, Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter but not in Venus and Neptune. What am I?"
The second riddle was indeed trickier than the first and Stacy repeated the question a few times in her head before she noticed a pattern. Some of the planets had something in common except for Venus and Neptune. With a smile she answered "The answer is the letter R since there is no R in Venus or Neptune."
Though you are correct, do not get cocky. Now for riddle number three. You find me once in the morning, twice in the afternoon but never in the evening. What am I?" the voice said.
Repeating this riddle in her mind she came to a realization. Whoever this voice was, he or she loved patterns it seemed but she would keep her guard up. It was possible that one of the last two would throw something out of left field at her. Calmly, Stacy answered "The answer is the letter O since their is one in morning, two in afternoon, and none in evening."
"Correct. Now here comes the forth riddle. You see me 3 times in December, once in June, twice in November but never in July. What am I?" the voice said as if impressed now.
Once again, Stacy repeated the riddle quietly in her mind and swiftly found the pattern. "The answer is the letter E since it appears three times in December, once in June, twice in November and not in July."
"Once again, you are correct. Now for the final riddle. What is the beginning of eternity, the end of time and space, the beginning of every end, and the end of every place?" the voice said now confident that it would stump her with the hardest of the riddles.
Stacy's shoulders began shaking with the force of her restrained laughter. It was hard to believe that a riddle she learned from a cartoon she watched in the early 2000s was the fifth and final riddle. Though her situation was far from funny she found it a struggle to cease the silent laugh so she could answer. Somehow she managed and after taking a deep breath, she said "The answer is the letter E."
The restraints released Stacy and disappeared to wherever they came from and the door sealing her in opened as well. "Very good, though greater challenges await you, I think you have the potential to retrieve the rest of the spirits." A totem resembling a three headed wolf came from the middle slab in the back of the wall and Stacy raised her D-Tector to accept the totem as it came to her. The disembodied voice had not spoken any more as if it was never there.
Deciding to activate a Digiport instead of heading back outside she headed for the Human World, while unknown to her, the mountain itself had lost it's glow.
