As far as things were, everything was pretty calm at the moment. At least until the scouting operation began. Honoka —that’s how her name is spelled, btw— and Lili took to the skies, while Mandrake focused on his telepathy in an attempt to detect the mind of anyone near and Cion used her herculean willpower began to fill one the various depressions dotting the land.
Once that was done, however, Honoka would perceive an alteration in the air's pressure as a strange pattern began to be drawn in the sand below. From one moment to the next, she felt as if her whole body was pure lead and an unseen force dragged her down violently. The rest of group would begin to feel that unnatural pressure greatly impeding their movements.
You’re not welcome here.
Mandrake would be able to hear a commanding voice resonating within his head. It came from the tunnel’s depth.
Leave us alone.
Its tone was threatening, but there was also a measure of protectiveness in it. The type that’d rather not resort to violence, but wouldn’t doubt about it if it came to this.
Leave this place and never return. Or else.
A series of tremors began to shake the landscape; they weren’t violent enough to cause significant damage to any landbound digimon, but everyone would have to make a conscious effort to maintain their footing. As soon as it ceased, however, everyone nearby would find out that the mound that Cion had finally had, once again, returned to its previous form. Will of the Swarm [Passive]: Airborne digimon in this ability's radius area are violently forced to crash land. The speed of everyone present is reduced by 50%.

Well it seemed Luna's idea for Honoka to go airborne was accepted and Mandrake and Lothar gave insight on Scorpiomon or at least what they knew on those digimon. "So watch my toes, I got it. Still Ultimate level huh? Guess I better be more careful." still she remembered meeting other digimon that we're higher or lower level then others of the same type, maybe they'd luck out and they'd all be around champion level. Luna laughed to herself, as if it'd go that smoothly.
However while she was paying attention to them she didn't notice Cion walk over and proceed to lift around, well she wasn't that sure how much but it was a lot of it, and place it in one of the holes, Luna didn't know how to respond, she wanted to investigate a bit more but hey this works too. Wait no this does not work at all, Luna felt something weigh down on her body, her knees bending a bit she wondered what this weird force was before thinking about Honoka in the air, would this affect her as well. Deciding as a just in case precaution Luna slowly raised her hand, using the other to pull it up faster pointing it at Honoka in the sky. "Reflect Barrier." she shouted casting the barrier around the spirit tamer, now if she fell from the sky that barrier should absorb most of the impact.
Though she would bounce around like she was in a hamster ball but it would be way less harmful than hitting the ground like a sack of bricks. But while she was focused on that she wasn't able to maintain her footing and slipped in the sand, falling forward she managed to catch herself and sit up on one knee.
"Ughh, guess that's the defensive measure." Getting up Luna brushed the sand off her body looking around. "Everyone ok?" that shaking wasn't that bad but she still figured making a conscious effort to make sure no one got hurt was the best idea.
But while looking around she did notice that the mound Cion had moved returned to its previous form, scratching her head Luna felt confused. "Guess this is going to be harder than I'd hoped." Luna muttered to herself as she walked over to check the mound.

Honoka had taken to the skies to scout ahead, but she didn't even get any time to examine her surroundings. In fact, she found it quite difficult to get further up.
Honoka... something's wrong!
"I feel it..." Honoka confirmed. She tried as hard as she could to fight it, but ultimately she ended up plummeting down further into the sand. She braced herself for impact only to discover something even worse. She was covered in some sort of barrier of darkness. "No... nonononono..." She kept muttering to herself. Whatever was covering her slammed into the sand, sending her back up into the air only to come crashing down.
Hey... What's going on? Honoka!?
The barrier slammed into the hot sand a second time before dissipating, leaving a Lillymon lying on the ground curled up into a ball. Honoka could barely keep herself together, as whatever passed for a heart in this form felt like it was racing. Just being surrounded by darkness for a brief moment was enough to send her into a panic. All of a sudden, maybe accepting a mission into a potentially dark mine was a really bad plan, but Honoka didn't even stop to think about that kind of thing.
Hey, get a hold of yourself! All of a sudden, Honoka felt her hand move against her will and pinch her cheek. Honoka nodded to no one around her, attempting to stand up, but finding it particularly difficult to do so.
So... flying wasn't a no-go... And judging by how the Lillymon's legs were straining themselves just to keep standing, just the act of moving quickly in general was forbidden.
"I'm fine, thanks..." She finally responded to Luna. "If that's their idea of a welcome, however, I'm not thinking that our chances of talking with them are going to be very high..."

Shortly after Honoka had decided to scout overhead Mandrake was given commands from within his mind. Clutching his head he tumbled forward with a pained groan coupled with the increase in pressure. Though the pressure slowed Lothar, the Leomon's powerful legs kept him upright and allowed him to grab Mandrake before his friend fell on his face.
Opening his mind again Mandrake telepathically said to the Scorpiomon hive "There are those that need the resources of the mine. If there is a way for you to let the miners work then I'm sure you won't have to leave your land."
Keeping the mental link open while waiting for the response from the Scorpiomon he saw the state Honoka was in and, with Lothar's help, made his way to her. She seemed alright on the surface and even said so. Then Mandrake said "The Scorpiomon reached out to me telepathically and they are far from happy. I'm beginning to worry that things could quickly grow out of hand."

Hmm... well this was far from unexpected, but nonetheless unpleasant. Feeling what she concluded to be distorted space-time tearing her frame towards the sandy floor, Cion narrowed her aureate eyes with a clearly displeased look tainting her face. Bristling once with anger, she realized that her previous efforts had been rendered null and void. The Scorpiomons were evidently apt in their craft that was terraforming. More than that, they were as territorial and hostile as the machines had suggested. Perhaps they truly were the feral savages who knew no welfare but their own.
Dismissing the threat with an amused sigh, the unassuming fox gave Luna a casual thumbs up in appreciation of her care. Following this, she gently folded her arms and decided to let her allies speak first. They had done so previously, so why not maintain the status quo? The experience was novel and valuable to the younglings, and she preferred to be in the background anyway. Therefor it was a shame that they were so drastically hampered by the increased gravity, rendering them brittle and taciturn. If combat broke out they were likely in a very bad situation - a factor that needed to be considered.
Before long, the silver fennec recognized that silence prevailed. This however was far from an issue. If her companions were not willing to engage their adversaries in conversation then she certainly was. Slowly, calmly and gracefully treading towards the various depressions, she shifted her paws behind her back. Beaming with poise and vigor, she cleared her throat and spoke as loudly as necessary. "We seek to end a chain of conflicts between you, those you have supposedly driven off, and others inadvertently involved. We prefer to do this peacefully and evenhandedly, hence your cooperation would be most expedient and appreciated."
See? That was the way to do it. Their impetus was clear as day, as was their steadfastness. Nevertheless, intellectual honesty and a tendency for diplomacy were guiding their actions and words. There was no need for explicit threats, nor snap judgments. Last but not least, it was always wise to emphasize the advantages of any given terms. Now for the cherry on the cake, for which she even ceased her movement - a request based on vested interest. "Please, show yourselves so we can talk in a civil manner. We'd like to hear your side of the story."

It’d take a bit for the group to recoup. On one side, Luna and Honoka were recovering from what had been no doubt a failed adventure, while on the other, Cion and Mandrake wanted to further interact with whatever dwelled in this area. First off. Mandrake’s attempt at communicating with the hive would be… relatively successful, if one wanted to call it that. This is our land. At least in regards to what Mandrake was proposing, he could sense a palpable aversion from whoever he was conversing with. They didn’t seem like the friendly sort. There’s no place for usurpers in it. Maybe negotiating with this sort of being was going to be a tall order. Maybe the argument needed to be executed in another way. It was hard to say. And no group of interlopers will change that. What about Cion, then? Suffice to say that her words had been more… eloquent? Friendly? Less direct? It was hard to say, even though their result was easily seen by anyone present. In that instant, a lightning crackled directly above her. A lightning bolt descended, purposefully avoiding the fennec —and anyone in her immediate vicinity— by the tiniest of margins, all while instantly turning the sand around the impact point in a pristine crystal platform. Once the light receded, the silhouette of a young male that sported clothes way too formal for this climate stood, a disinterested expression evident on his face. “Sheesh. Alright, I guess that Dear Mother decided you’re worth something, given that I’m here to talk to you instead of frying you in this moment.” Quite the courteous introduction, wasn’t it? He then made a hand gesture, akin to a wave. “Pleased to make your acquaintance; you can call me Junior. I’m here on my Mother’s behalf; I’ll listen to what you have to say… for as long as I want. You better not waste my time.” Judging by the holosuited digimon’s words, it seemed like this situation would be a lot dicier than the last one, especially considering that the pull that had been weighing everyone down all this time didn’t seem to apply to the newcomer.

Well this all went from sorta bad to jeez what the heck just happened, Honoka falling from the sky, Mandrake hearing the voices of the Scorpiomon. ….they had telepathy? Luna really didn't see that one coming. Cion seemed fine though if maybe a bit annoyed that her efforts were for naught. Speaking out for the co-operation of the Scorpiomon Luna decided to hold her words and wait to see if they got a response, she was doubtful but hopeful.
Eventually that hope was proven to not be misplaced as lightning crackled above their heads right above Cion, Luna stood waiting not making a move as the lightning struck nearby missing the group, someone else might be afraid of getting hit but she stood calmly, if they wanted to attack she would of figured it'd be something other then a thunderstorms. Maybe even a swarm of digimon would be more likely.
Left in the lights wake was a, human? Wearing clothes that didn't fit the environment they were in. A Holo suited digimon was Luna's first guess as she figured humans couldn't travel via lightning. Least if they could they should do it was more often as that's kinda cool. Returning the wave with one of her own introductions seemed like the logical first step. "The pleasure is ours, my name is Luna. We're here on behalf of the city of Whitewater."
Not wanting to waste anyone's time Luna got straight to the point. "We came here originally to get the mine that was overtaken by machine digimon back into the hands of Whitewater, they told us you drove them away from here and that's why they took over the other mine. We don't wish to drive you away nor the machines. If there's anything your group needs so all parties can get along we'll do what we can." Short simple and to the point, Luna didn't want any fighting between any of the parties.

Maybe it was due to her recent run-in with one of her greatest fears, but Honoka's mind wasn't exactly operating optimally right now, and things started to blue together. Lothar had moved towards her to check up on her, and she assured everyone that she was alright. Mandrake seemed to communicating with the Scorpiomon telepathically, something she still felt was rather rude, to be honest. Wouldn't it be better if one or two of the Scorpiomon just showed up so everyone could talk? What was the point of using telepathy at this juncture? And wouldn't the very fact having someone that could read or speak with minds or whatever be rather hostile towards any sort of negotiations in the first place?
Cion apparently agreed with something along those lines, as she pleaded with the Scorpiomon to show themselves. And... they did not. In fact, instead of a scary scorpion monster burrowing out from the sand there was some well-dressed human guy that descended on a freaking bolt of lightning. Not exactly what she expected, honestly. Oh, and these random scorpion Digimon guys could apparently control gravity, too.
Luna seemed to have negotiations in check, and she didn't really have anything to add, either. Besides, having a bunch of explanations and demands coming from so many different sources could just get confusing, so she took the time to collect herself and her thoughts.
She was unable to fly now, no matter how hard she tried. Which meant that flying around was out of the question for now. That also meant that she didn't get much of a chance to see anything, as it suspiciously seemed to have activated not long after Honoka took to the skies. Which meant... what, exactly? Was there something that they didn't want someone to see, something that would have been apparent from a high vantage point? There was obviously more to this group than a simple group of scorpions, after all. So while Luna, Cion, and Mandrake all moved to communicate with "Junior", Honoka simply decided to take a walk around the area's perimeter. She doubted it, but perhaps this effect on her only had a certain range on it, and she'd be able to take to the air once more if only to satisfy her own curiosity.

It seemed that Cion's request that they show themselves was granted as what seemed to be a human appeared in a flash of light. It didn't take telepathy for one to realize this was a digimon using a holosuit but Mandrake said nothing about that. While Luna began talking with the digimon called 'Junior', Mandrake spotted Honoka heading off out of the corner of his eye. It seemed she was planning to get a look around since she couldn't fly. While a good idea, Mandrake knew such a thing was risky and he was having trouble standing due to altered gravity so he was now leaning on his staff for support with Lothar not far from him. Lothar's great physical strength allowed him to be standing with relative ease but Mandrake knew that even his friend's mobility was greatly hindered. Opening a mental link with Lothar, Mandrake said 'Lothar, go with Honoka. Even if this field has a certain range, it is too dangerous for her to be wandering off. It doesn't matter if she is a spirit wielder."
'But what about you, Mandrake? You can barely stand.' Lothar replied back over Mandrake's mental link.
'It's alright, I'll manage somehow. As long as things don't escalate things should be fine.' Mandrake said as he closed off the link with Lothar and watched as his Leomon friend followed after the spirit wielder known as Honoka after glancing suspiciously in the direction of Junior.
Taking a few steps forward while leaning on his staff, Mandrake stopped not far from Luna and said "Perhaps we can continue these negotiations without the altered gravity. Judging by how many minds I sense, we don't pose any threat to you."

The hidden originator of the nearly omnipresent voice reached out to them with claims that were pertinacious to say the least. But was this truly a land for them to claim? Was it not them who were the usurpers - the interlopers? Regardless of what answers time had in store for her, Cion was glad that she had pursued a tactfully diplomatic approach. No matter the outcome, she occupied the moral high ground, which was immediate gratification to her. Naturally, she was driven by results as well, but few victories were absolute.
Beholding the globe lightning with a raised eyebrow and watching it discharge adjacent to her, not the slightest wince manifested itself in her body. On the contrary... she openly displayed her disport by harrumphing with a rapt, perhaps slightly wintry smile. An act of aggression this had not been, and even if what could a bevy of Scorpiomons possibly do to harm her? Warp space-time further? Adorable. However, she was not here to live out her condescension. There was a slight possibility that the crustaceans were not vile and warmongering, hence all options had to be considered. Besides, it was not as if the machines had acted in a better manner that earned them her unconditional support.
Nonetheless, to see them manifest and utilize a holo-suit was certainly bewildering. Not a majority of digimons were accepting of humans, so to witness one voluntarily assume their shape was without doubt intriguing. Regrettably, their mediator lacked the refined manners that she did, which of course were becoming to someone performing a political duty. Nevertheless, the candid arrogance at display was somewhat perplexing. Were they incapable of perceiving her superior data signature, or did they simply not care? Question for later...
Shrugging at Mandrake's false statement or willful deceit, the silver fennec briefly shifted her aureate eyes to behold Luna and the words that she wished to state. Thankfully, she explicated their disposition concisely and accurately. Again, Cion not approve of the policy of appeasement that was present, though she understood whence the others came. Fortunately, she had no qualms with being more straight to the point. "Thus I requested to hear your side of the story. As stated, we pursue, if possible, an evenhanded and preferably peaceful solution - or rather outcome."

The negotiations were underway on short order. All things considered, they were pretty peaceful; Junior acknowledged Luna’s introduction with a wave of his hand. The only being that cared about pleasantries, so things would be kept short, at least for the time being.
First off, the digimon proceeded to listen to everyone’s requests before speaking himself. “Well, while my presence should be enough of a gesture of good will, I guess that holding a conversation under these circumstances isn’t the most comfortable. Give me some moments.”
Had that been as easy as to ask for it? Seemingly so! After a dozen or so seconds, the borderline overwhelming pressure the group had been subject to was completely lifted, and everyone was thus able to walk and fly again normally.
“Our side of the story, huh? I guess I can do that.” A look was given to Cion before Junior started narrating. “This is my family’s ancestral home. They’ve inhabited this place for generations, or… at least we did. One day it was just seen as a business opportunity and the previous generation was driven out. Mom was part of it, so she, but she’s the kind that won’t give up as easily, you know?”
It was easy to guess the rest of the history, but not finishing it wouldn’t be aesthetic. “Fueled by resentment, she vowed to come back here one day and reclaim what was hers. So, long story short, she raised an entire brood, and while I suggested a possible diplomatic solution to this problem at first, we weren’t taken seriously. So, we just stormed this place, resulting in us being where we are.” He made a small pause, in case the realization hadn’t sunk in. “I personally don’t mind a peaceful solution, but I’m sure you all can appreciate the irony of the situation, and how the person behind the ultimate decision isn’t going to negotiate any terms with a group or groups that had been nothing more than a congregation of hypocrites towards us.”
He shrugged nonchalantly, as if there wasn’t anything else worth saying. “What are you going to do about it?”
At least on paper, the choices available were somewhat obvious, even if neither was very savory. What would the group do? Honoka herself wouldn’t need to go far to feel the pressure relieved from her body. Would she find it weird? Probably.

Luna was happy she managed to say her point so easily, maybe she was pretty at this whole negotiation thing then she thought. Her allies though were a bit different, Hinoka had left and started wandering around the area. Luna wondered why, was it to get a better feel for the place? Either way Lothar went with her so Luna felt fine letting that slip from her mind while she focused on the conversation.
Speaking of that Mandrake had asked for the field to be lifted, Luna didn't know if this was a deceitful tactic or he truely felt the group was no threat. While she had no grasp on anyone's combat experience first hand she knew regardless of the group they still presented some threat to the Scorpiomons, if they didn't that field wouldn't be here in the first place. Cion was more to the point then she was however, their side of the story was important so Luna didn't exactly disagree with that. She gave a nod agreeing with what Cion said.
And per Mandrakes request the field was lifted, Luna lifted her arms and bent her legs getting the feeling back into them, felt great to move again. Her attention was fully on Juniors story, she easily knew where he was heading with the story but he finished it anyway. Absentmindedly her hand clutched her chest and she looked down, the story did make her feel bad for their group but even worse she could see pretty easily there seemed like no option for peace, at least with how the facts presented themselves.
She opened her mouth about to suggest they try but closed it, who were they anyway? Just some outsiders. They'd get laughed out of the room in seconds, especially since they were here for those said hypocrites. "If it's any consolation, I am sorry to hear that, though I suppose that means little coming from an outsider of that conflict." she didn't know if Junior would even care but she felt the need to say it anyway.
Well the choices were clear, Luna didn't exactly know what they should do. Well she knew what they could do but… she decided to wait for more of the group to talk.

Honoka had noticed Lothar was following, and Honoka simply nodded her acknowledgment of the lion man Digimon. But she didn't get very far at all until she realized whatever strange effect that had affected the area had been lifted. She was still within earshot of Junior's story, and had rejoined the group proper by the time he finished his story.
And at that point, Honoka was full of uncertainty that had plagued her during this entire mission. She had wanted to paint the Scorpiomon as the villains, send them packing, and let everyone else live happily ever after, but the Scorpiomon, regardless of their rather violent methods, were just taking back their home. And protecting a place that meant the world was something that the teenage girl understood all too well. If someone tried to take away the family's shop, she was damn sure would do everything in her power to prevent that, and there would be hell to pay if she failed.
Still, Honoka thought she saw a glimmer of hope. There was only a small chance, but she thought she had to at least ask. "Wait, Junior-san, was it? Something you said earlier gave me an idea! You said that the only reason your family took back this home was because it was an ancestral land, right? So where did you live in between being driven out of this land and retaking it? If you lived in a similar place, then maybe it would serve the machine Digimon''s purposes as well!"
She looked to her four companions, hoping they would understand where she's coming from. "If there's two suitable mines in this area, then isn't there a chance that there could be three? And if Whitewater, the machine Digimon, and the Scorpiomon all have their own property, then there shouldn't be any problems, even if it's not exactly what the machine Digimon requested, right? Plus, if the Scorpiomon recently moved out of their old place, then there's a chance that no one else has moved back in!"
Honoka understood that it was a long shot, but if there was even a slim chance of everyone getting along without any more violence, shouldn't even the slightest, most inconvenient opportunity be explored?

Shortly after the gravity lifted Lothar returned with Honoka. It seemed that she didn't wander too far so she was still able to hear Junior's words. Indeed this situation was trickier than Mandrake had thought. Apparently the Scorpiomon had been driven off their land some time ago and just wanted it back.
Mandrake listened to what Honoka said and had to admit she had a point. This desert was likely filled with areas that could be used for mining so finding another site should be simple enough especially for machine digimon and their scanning abilities. "It seems you have a good potential idea, Honoka, but the problem is will our clients be willing to make such a compromise? I would rather this whole thing be resolved peacefully myself."
"Based on what I've seen growing up, machine digimon tend to follow logic most of the time. So maybe they can be reasoned with." Lothar said after being quiet for most of the time the group had been together.

Post by Cion on Aug 16, 2020 9:46:20 GMT
Though not of capital importance to her, Cion nonetheless recognized the gesture of lifting the local pressure as was it was - a token of good will. As bold and brash as the fittingly named Junior was, he did not seem to be a malevolent person. He simply was a lad who took care of his family, which to her was an admirable quality. Certain actions could and would be interpreted as misguided and rash, but they at least had a relatable foundation. The same was the case for why this clan of Scorpiomons had claimed, or rather reclaimed, this sandy locality.
And if the story was truthful in its entirety, then they were hardly to blame for this mess. Sighing and folding her arms, the silver fennec closed her aureate eyes and got lost in deep thought for a moment. The machines had certainly proven themselves to take whatever they sought, so had such a felony already occurred in the past? If yes, why did this tribe not consult other authorities? Surely there were organizations that gladly lend a helping hand. Not all groups had been formed over the last few years. Urgh... nobody here was inculpable, except their clients perhaps.
Luna's words indeed were unbecoming to this situation, although everyone was likely to recognize her good-naturedness. Regardless, they needed a practical and all-encompassing solution. If peace and order was not established, then history was bound to repeat itself eventually. To the unassuming fox's surprise, lady Nijimura was quick to explicate an interesting approach that was worth considering. "Or it serves Whitewater's purpose." She interjected calmly, believing it was easier and more agreeable for a mining operation to relocate than an entire piece of civilization - as advanced and apace as it was. It was far from an optimal outcome, but a decent middle ground.
However, Mandrake had a valid point. Were their employers willing to relinquish their indisputable right for the principle of peaceful coexistence? They were ready to do so partially, but fully? It without doubt was a bit of a stretch. "Asking does not hurt." She reasoned with an even-tempered tone to her voice before turning her attention back to the digimon disguised as a human. With the intention to convince its matriarch, Cion briefly contemplated what to say, but soon smiled confidently. Nodding, she stepped forward with her paws entwined and resting in front of her hip.
"The resentment of your mother is understandable, but, and I must emphasize this, unwise. In fact... it undermines her very goal." She stated firmly yet kindly. Giving her respondent a moment to internalize and adapt to what she had just asserted. Once she had his noticed she continued. "Or is it too far-fetched of an idea that the machines will return someday, for any conceivable reason? Even if they fail, you will inevitably suffer. I am sure, in spite of her pride and devotion to her forefathers, that this is not what she wants for her brood, correct?"
A different perspective - one not filled with blind ambition and vested interest. Maybe that was required, not only for this kin of course, to heed rationality and recover from the wounds of yesteryear. After all, this was not about a single individual or group, but the interests of whole states... as large or small, modern or natural as they were. "Besides, neither us nor those who have assigned us to act on their behalf have treated you hypocritically. And if you show yourselves to be the better people, by again seeking out consensus, then I personally vow that it will be recognized."
Did this suffice? The restrained Arniomon crossed her fingers internally that it did, despite maintaining her outwards poise. Solely if everyone was compliant to engage would the full truth be revealed. From there on, agreements and concessions could be made. Taking in long breath, she allowed silence to reign the dessert for a few seconds until she broke it for a final time. "This has the chance to end today for good... but the choice is yours."
