Welp... things were turning out about as well as Mordreid expected. Which was a shame, since they were all probably gonna get killed. And they were all trapped, so there wasn't even the option of fighting back... If everything remained the same. Honestly, Mordreid was curious on whether he would be the same when he regenerated, or if he would be fixed somehow. And he would probably get to meet Hawkeye, Kazuo, and Kaya... Oh, that's right! Kaya was a human, and that meant that they must go the the human village of beginnings!
But if what Mordreid heard was true, then by the time Mordreid grew up and was ready to explore the world again, Kaya would only be a seventh of Mordreid's age! And that wouldn't do at all! Humans were weak and fragile enough as it was! He didn't need some little human baby going around. So... Mordreid had to be a little more revealing about himself.
So he let out a long sigh. And as he did so, a faint black mist began to seep out of his body.

The voice was like multiple demonic voices fighting to establish dominance over the PawnChessmon's voicebox, as if the Digital World itself wanted to silence him. And though he spoke the truth his words were hardly understandable.

The mist suddenly coalesced into a black mirror that appeared in front of him. It shattered into a thousand ebony fragments that vanished into nothingness - along with the PawnChessmon.
But Mordreid wasn't gone entirely. Having teleported within the shadows of a particular tree he silently grasped the backpack as they were no doubt confused as to his disappearance. He suddenly lunged from the tree, landing on top of the Flymon's back and tossing the backpack towards his comrades.

Things were looking bad. The Fanbeemon had all aimed their stingers at the three "thieves" that were stuck on the tree, ready to be stung to death. Kaya began to breathe heavily; she didn't want to die! She was more freaked out than that time she went tubing on a river in the woods. And Hawkeye was stuck too, so he couldn't do anything to save her...
Something strange suddenly happened though. Out of nowhere, a demonic voice suddenly came out of the PawnChessmon... or rather, multiple demonic voices. It was very disturbing indeed, and it frightened the Fanbeemon enough that the three who were holding him just dropped Nao onto the ground and flew away screaming.
But then a shroud of mist surrounded Nao before shattering like glass, revealing that he had disappeared! "Where is that wanna-be wretch?! Find him! FIND HIM, I SAY!"
The other Fanbeemon didn't listen; they were all too scared. Instead of obeying their queen, they all made like trees and left, leaving the Flymon all by herself. "YOU COWAAAAARDS!"
Kaya, Hawkeye and Kazuo were confused by this point. Hawkeye had never seen a PawnChessmon that could do something like... well, like THAT! While they were still processing it, Nao suddenly landed on top of the Flymon before throwing the backpack to the group. The good news was that it landed by Kaya's hand.
The bad news is it was now stuck to the tree as well.
The Flymon reacted as how any sane being would react to something jumping on top of them; she flew around like crazy, trying desperately as hell to shake off the PawnChessmon, specifically into that same blotch of honey the others were stuck on.
"Come... on..." Kaya groaned as she tried to reach her Digivice, which was sticking out of the backpack just barely out of reach.

It turns out that standing on the back of a large hornet monster wasn't a great idea. As the Flymon started to fly around to shake the PawnChessmon off of her, Mordreid had to struggle to maintain any sense of balance. Still, between the beating wings and the angry screams, he really couldn't think of a way to stay on there without using violent methods.
But... this was a mean Flymon, wasn't it? After all, she wanted to kill his new friends. And that wasn't very nice! So... maybe he should be mean to the Flymon as well? He shrugged, grasping his spear. A black mist covered the tip, turning into a black sludgy substance that erupted into several black thorns that were sticking out of the dark knight's weapon. Then he thrust his spear into the Flymon's back. It was a stronger Digimon than Mordreid was, so it likely wouldn't deal too much damage, but at the very least he could have something to hold onto. Plus the thorns would help the spear stay lodged into the royal insectoid Digimon's back. Removing it... would be a great deal more painful than expected.
So as Mordreid hanged on for dear life, all he could to was hope that Kaya and her device could help get herself out of this mess and defeat the Flymon and her army. Or at the very least, get themselves to safety. Mordreid could take a beating, after all, so they could probably move on without him if they had to!

The Flymon screamed in agony as she felt the lance stab right into her back. This definitely made her fly around like crazy even more just to shake off this annoying pest covered in metal. On the other hand, Mordreid was correct about how it would give him a better grip by giving him something to hold onto. It was all up to whether or not Mordreid's mitts were sweaty or not that decided if he stayed on or flew off.
"Almost... got it...!" Kaya groaned as she tried desperately to reach her Digivice with her left arm. Finally, she was just able to grasp it with two of her fingers. "Yes!" She turned it around and activated the Hardlight Baton, cutting through the honey that locked her arm to the tree before turning it off. She snapped with her right hand fingers, triggering the DNA charge, before slamming the top of the Digivice into that hand. "DNA Charge!"
"Hawkmon, Digivolve to... Angemon!"
Hawkeye's Digivolution allowed him to be free from his honey prison. Now as an Angemon, he was the same level as Flymon and was ready for a fight. He pulled out and arrow and aimed his bow at the bug. "It is just you and me now, your highness."
Flymon growled as she immediately took off into the air with Hawkeye following suit, definitely causing Mordreid to fall off at this point. Thankfully Kaya had freed herself and Kazuo from the honey with her Hardlight Baton at this point, so the Tentomon was able to catch Mordreid in midair. "Wow, for a walking suit of armor you are VERY light!"
"Come on, we gotta go, Hawkeye will catch up later," Kaya urged the two Digimon as Kazuo set Mordreid down on the ground gently. If the PawnChessmon would choose to follow, the three of them would run for quite a bit until it seemed safe to stop... hopefully they wouldn't run into any more Fanbeemon.
After taking a moment to stop and breathe, Kaya looked at Mordreid with a serious expression. "So Mordreid's your name, huh? Is that why you can't tell the truth? Please tell us everything, the TRUTH of everything, I don't care about how it'll make your voice sound."
"Uh, I kinda care, he sounds creepy like that," Kazuo added.
"You're not helping Kazuo, no offense."

Mordreid was pulled back and forth as the Flymon tumbled around in the air, but his grip held strong. And while he was focused entirely on holding on and preventing himself from becoming a dark-knight-shaped hole in the ground, Kaya had managed to free herself, at least enough to reach that thing humans used to let their Digimon cheat the laws of reality and Digivolve. Talk about unfair! Oh well, at least the Hawkmon 'roided up on the power of love and friendship was on his side today!
Though, that Hawkmon was now an Angemon now. Neat. A little bright and prissy-looking for Mordreid to appreciate. Call the dark knight biased, but he preferred a darker, more sharper appearance. Just felt a little more visually striking, you know?
Anyways, those thoughts ran through his mind as he was thrown off the Flymon's back and was caught by the bug who didn't Digivolve for some reason. So... he was the weakling of the bunch, huh? But Mordreid thought he should wait until the Tentomon landed before he said anything along those lines.
"I going to run away!" Mordreid demanded, standing still. "I'm going to completely forget about my lance!" He pointed up towards the back of the Flymon. His spear was still embedded into the insect Digimon's back.
What's more, he didn't seem concerned at all by Kaya's attempts to get more information from him.

"Gee, Kazuo, I do not thank you at all for saving me from falling," Kazuo said as he impersonated Mordreid's voice as best as he could after setting him down, before switching back to his normal voice. "Why THANK YOU, it feels great to be appreciated from time to time!"
"Not the time for that, Kazuo," Kaya lightly scolded him.
Mordreid didn't want to get away until he got his lance back from the Flymon. Kaya and Kazuo sweatdropped as they looked at each other; how were they supposed to get THAT? They'd have to wait for Hawkeye to beat Flymon, and that could take a while!
Well their worries were nullified as the Flymon was slammed into a tree before flying back up to the fight, flinging Mordreid's lance off of her and causing it to land a few feet away from the group. "Hey, your wish came true!"
Now that Mordreid had his staff back, hopefully now the group could run to a safer area where they wouldn't get stung by Fanbeemon, or have a sudden Flymon or Angemon crash right into them during their battle. If Mordreid were to get to safety with them now, Kaya wouldn't let the subject drop. She rummaged through her backpack and pulled out a bag of colorful sour gummy candies. "You like sour stuff you said, right? Well, I'll give you this whole bag if you explain everything. The truth of everything."

"Wow! That's an amazing impersonation of me!" Mordreid praised, patting the insect Digimon on the back. "I guess that means that I'm in your debt, considering I didn't help you guys in the slightest just now! I'm definitely not upset that you never thanked me for getting you your belongings back in the slightest!" His rather vindictive tone was apparent towards Kazuo.
They seemed surprised that Mordreid didn't want to leave without his weapon, but he couldn't understand why. What kind of Digimon left behind their weapon in the middle of combat? Besides, what if Hawkeye ended up destroying his spear by accident? That would be incredibly infuriating! Thankfully, things seemed to work out as his spear fell to the ground not long after. Mordreid skipped over to his spear and hugged it tightly. "That's certainly inconvenient! But I'm definitely angry right now! Every dark knight needs his weapon!" He exclaimed as he grasped it tightly and followed behind Kaya and Kazuo.
Mordreid had his doubts about this decision, though. What kind of friend left their ally to fight an enemy alone, after all? Sure, Hawkeye may have become a Champion-stage Digimon, but a swarm of Rookies could still bring him down if he wasn't careful, and that was without another Champion Digimon taking him on. If they ran away, Hawkeye would have both to contend with. Still, Kaya was apparently insisting on abandoning him, so he could only hope that her trust in her Angemon partner wasn't misplaced.
Once they got to safety, Kaya produced a bag of gummies towards Mordreid and attempted to bribe him in exchange for information. That was... a little insulting to the PawnChessmon, to say the least. What was he, some kind of pet? Asking him for information was one thing, but such a paltry gift was... condescending, to say the least. Still, Kaya sure was being pushy. So Mordreid supposed he could tell this human a little bit about himself.
"Sure thing! I was born in the darkest depths of pandemonium, a place completely unlike the village of beginnings!" He began, taking the bag of gummies and placing them in a pocket in his armor, where a black mist suddenly formed tiny little tendrils as it dragged the item into places unknown with a faint, ominous chuckle that came out of nowhere. "So, nothing was really wrong with me in general, so I had plenty of friends to hang out with, and had a whole lot of fun, too! Then I Digivolved to Rookie, and left my home by my own will! So a pretty average life, I'd say!"

Kaya sighed, knowing that Mordreid was right; they forgot to thank him for his help. The human smiled and knelt down to his level. "You're right, Mordreid, we did forget. Thank you for helping me get back my backpack. We couldn't have done it without your help." If Mordreid allowed it, Kaya would then give the little PawnChessmon a nice and simple hug as a form of appreciation.
"Yeah, sorry about that, I suppose with everything going down it slipped from my mind..."
As the group got to safety, Kaya realized that they didn't properly explain why they were leaving Hawkeye behind like this. Mordreid probably thought they were abandoning him! To ease his worries, Kaya explained it all. "Don't worry about Hawkeye by the way, he knows these woods like the back of his wing and he knows how to escape if he needs to. Besides, we have comms so I can just call him and tell him where we are if he can't find us."
Once they were in a safe area, Mordreid accepted the sour gummies from Kaya, misinforming her that it meant that they were true friends now. He explained that he was indeed born in the village of beginnings before putting the bag of gummies in his pocket, where a black mist formed and tiny tendrils pulled the bag inside. That was... pretty unnerving.
The next thing that Mordreid said was pretty sad. He thinks there is something wrong with him, he had no friends, and he was forced out of the place he called home. Neither Kaya nor Kazuo could relate to that. The two looked at each other before looking at Mordreid again.
"Well, who wants to be friends with those jerks from the village, right? You've got us, if you want."

"I'm definitely annoyed now that you thanked me!" Mordreid announced with a chipper tone. Kaya knelt down and suddenly wrapped her arms around the PawnChessmon's body. He panicked for a second, wondering what the human was planning. Was this some kind of human technique to make a Digimon self-destruct!? Was she just trying to strangle him? Mordreid debated impaling the little girl while he still had a chance, but instead decided to bide his time. She didn't seem to cause any damage, so he just stood there frozen like a statue until Kaya finished with her hold over him. It wasn't entirely unpleasant, but it definitely made the Digimon a little uncomfortable. The PawnChessmon was a dark knight, after all! He shouldn't have allowed himself to be grabbed so easily!
Kaya elaborated more on Hawkeye's condition and Mordreid nodded and spoke with a cheerful tone. "That's really unfortunate! Being stung to death by a swarm of insect Digimon while the people you care about most have abandoned you certainly sounds like a way to go out! I'm definitely still hoping that it happens! But I'm sure that he won't be affected by any kind of poison or paralytic techniques used by the Flymon that would prevent him from communicating with you!"
They seemed a little unsettled at Mordreid once he accepted Kaya's gift for some reason, and he couldn't for the life of him figure out why. Was there something one his armor? He examined himself to make sure that everything was in place, and everything seemed to check out.
Then they made a comment about calling all the people he grew up with jerks. That was awfully mean of them! They didn't even know them! "It was understandable that they all feared me, though! I am a dark lord, after all!"

Kaya had to admit, she didn't think about the potential poison techniques that Flymon use that could affect Hawkeye. Still, she decided to be optimistic and she let her expressions show that. "Hawkeye's smart, he knows how to avoid that kind of thing... I hope. Besides, we didn't go too far, if he doesn't come back soon we can go searching for him."
"That is until we discover that Hawkeye is infected with some kinda parasite that turns him into a complete terrible monster!" Kazuo teased in a spooky tone, raising his claws to resemble something like a spooky storyteller.
POW!
"DON'T EVEN JOKE LIKE THAT," Kaya yelled at the beetle, who was now laying on the ground with a big bruise on his head. Kaya immediately gasped as soon as she realized what she did. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I didn't mean it!"
"S-Sure felt like you did... besides, I deserved that."
Their fears would soon vanish however, as the group would hear the sounds of wings flapping, bird wings more specifically. The Angemon from before would land in an open space by the group before devolving into his more familiar Hawkmon form. "Worry not, Flymon has been defeated and on their way to the Village of Beginnings."
"Thank you, Hawkeye," Kaya thanked her partner. She looked back over at Mordreid. "Sorry we dragged you into this, Mordreid. Is there anything we can do to make it up to you?"

"Wow! That's not ultraviolent at all!" Mordreid exclaimed as Kaya struck her friend and mercenary to the ground. He apparently said something out of line, but Mordreid couldn't tell exactly was so inappropriate. Did Kaya not like parasites? He supposed that made sense. They could be kind of icky at times. Well, she apologized afterwards, so he supposed that everything was hunky-dory.
Then Hawkeye arrived, devolving back into his little birb form and announcing his victory. Mordreid clapped his gloves together making metallic clanking sound as he did so. "Good work, but I hope you didn't absorb any of the Flymon's royal malice! That can be dangerous for you in the long run! But it's definitely better than any icky parasite that corrupts you and turns your digicore into a dark and corrupted form like my own!"
Kaya had inquired something further, even going so far as to apologize to Mordreid for getting him involved in a sticky situation. Well, Kaya and her friends were the ones that got stuck. Mordreid got grabbed. "I'm absolutely livid about this whole situation!" He admitted. For a brief moment, he saw a mirage of a strange-looking Impmon. He looked around towards the others, and they didn't seem to notice it. Were his eyes playing tricks on him? "Well, I'm gonna stick around here for a little while longer, but I don't want to meet you guys ever again!" And with that, the little dark knight ran off on his own, chasing a mirage into the shadows!
