Magnus nodded at Katherine’s statement. It was probably the explanation that made the most sense given the context they had, even though it was still a tad unbelievable; how an invisible force capable of throwing boulders at them wasn’t able to procure some crystals for itself. Dwelling on it wasn’t going to get anyone anywhere, however. Especially in a situation like this one, where action seemed like the cleared path towards some sort of favorable conclusion.
Things as they were, the brunette had no other option than to leave handling the situation to her peer’s capable hands. “I bet it’ll be a piece of cake to you two.” It was for him to be confident like that, but the two girls had proven to be extremely proficient at what they did; some encouragement couldn’t possibly hurt, right?
There wasn’t much else to be said regarding that situation; Katherine slashed the card and Jazz was affected by Chameleon Cape before venturing into the unknown room. But not without one last question directed at Miyu. How exactly were they supposed to get there? Well. The answer to that was quite simple. “Well, duh.” Miyu answered, matter-of-factly. “U just follow the path I made on my way down, and you should find yourself right back where I was before I fell on top of y’all!”
That would mean that Jazz would have to get out of their current location and continue their ascent, at least for a small while; the point where the explosion that had torn a good deal of the ceiling was pretty easy to spot, and was probably easy to access for a flier such as Jazz’s current form.
What exactly would be past it? From her spot, the first thing that would become glaringly obvious was the collection of cages and cells that littered the massive chamber that Jazz had entered. The room seemed like it had no clear exit, save for the one that Miyu had so artfully created; it was populated with cages and cells of various sizes and forms, and it looked like they all had at least a digimon inside, almost as if it were akin to a prison!
It didn’t take long for the passage query to get an answer, either. From what seemed like a strange warpgate located at the ceiling, a gold-plated, parrot-like digimon descended and began scanning the various cells in the room for a couple of seconds. Its sight remained on the empty cell for a couple of seconds before it finally disappeared by going through the same gate.
If Jazz lingered in this room for several more minutes, another warden was likely to appear from the warp gate. Alternatively, she could scan the individual cells in search for any clues or maybe even for Magnus’ partners, even though Miyu would’ve probably told him if she shared a room with any of them, right? She wouldn’t omit that detail.
There were probably other details to be observed in the room, but none were striking enough from her current position.

The process of designing a plan had been relatively simple, as well as Miyu’s explanation regarding how to go up. Angels could fly, therefore CefiroDarcmon had it pretty easy when it came to going up by herself. “H-Hopefully it will…” Katherine rubbed the back of her head and smiled faintly when seeing the trust Magnus seemed to have on them. It was time to do this!
The first thing Jazz found out was this floor was, just as Miyu had indicated, some type of prison. Cages and cells like the one that egg was trapped in were spread through the whole room. At first, she focused on looking around to see if she could spot those rock-like creatures with a single yellow eye the Penmon mentioned before. Were they supposed to protect these cages? Where were they? After that, the Darcmon would try to find out what type of digimon were trapped in these cages. Were they awake? Did they look strong? She would certainly make use of her camouflage to gather this information while remaining unnoticed.
Eventually, a warden far to fit the description Miyu had provided appeared. This was some type of bird creature! And apparently it had found about one of the cells being empty. Granted, the Penmon did mention there were other, stronger guards around. Was that the cage Miyu had escaped from using very questionable methods? If anything, the creature left the room as quickly as it had appeared.
In any case, Jazz would certainly make sure to study the content of each cell in the search of a digimon that looked like one of Magnus’ partners. Hopefully, at the very least, she would be able to identify a pattern that the digimons imprisoned had in common. She would go further into her investigation by studying the walls or any other structure in the room, in the search of any secret mechanism that she could operate here, trying to spot if any of crystal similar to the ones they had gotten could be seen around. She needed more information about this room before going back to the group and she would move around to gather all of the data she could.
What about the rest of the group, then? Well, while they waited for Jazz, they could at least use their time on finding out more about this place, right? Although unable to take too much distance from Katherine, Jaenryu had been able to find a room a few meters away from the spot where the hole Miyu had opened on her way down was located. Given its high proximity to where Jazz was supposed to return after her probing, it couldn't hurt to take a look around.
Although fairly uneventful at first sight, this small hall did have elaborate engravings on its walls, similar to those Katherine had studied on the altar right before they found Magnus. In this case, it was a set of three hieroglyphs. “I will take a look.” Katherine nodded at the group before taking some steps forward, although the drawings were quite easy to see from any spot of the room.
In this first antique piece of art, the group could see the small, rotund yellow-eyed beings Miyu had described before again. Just like Katherine had explained before, they gathered around a central object that resembled some cube and seemed to hold great power. Four crystals floated around this core, some type of energy had been drawn coming out of them and forming a cloud over the object. Within this cloud, she could spot a dog-like winged digimon, which the Spaniard seemed to recognize immediately.
“Anubimon…”
On the second piece, one could see this mystic, powerful core striking thunder over some of the rocky, small creatures, and granting approval to some others.
The third one, however, looked a lot less detailed, and even a bit sketchy, as if whoever had drawn this did not have all the time it needed to complete it. In it, Katherine could see a creature emerging from the sea. It looked like half a squid and half a devil, with two big tentacles coming from its back and bestowing a truly evil look. It seemed to be having some type of effect on the yellow-eyed creatures, and in the next frame one could see those little beings revealing against the core, taking away the crystals and letting this devil gloom mischievously over it. Sadly, this drawing had not been finished, and any more information was missing.
“So Anubimon…” Jaenryu noted.
“I’ve had to research lots of history about the Dark Area. As far as I know, Anubimon works as some type of ancient judge, capable of imprisoning digimon with evil data and granting pardon to the good ones.” Katherine explained while turning towards Magnus and the rest, pointing with her finger at the second drawing.
“So these things worshipped their own judge. Sadly, I cannot figure out what that second creature coming from the sea is. It may be a digimon I am not at all familiar with”
“I don’t understand what is happening in this one.” The Spaniard added pointing at the third hieroglyph. “That thing made the little ones… reveal against their leader?” She tilted her head looking at the painting and then glanced at Magnus. "What do you think?"
After receiving an answer, Katherine turned to look at Akemi and took some steps towards the Numemon. “Akemi…” She crouched to talk to the slimy digimon, trying her best to not scare her. “… Do you have any clue of what that digimon coming out from the sea might be? Do you remember ever seeing something similar before?”
Aquatic. Evil. Half squid, half humanoid. Red, sharp eyes. Tentacles coming from its back.
Right now, asking the only sea digimon she had close by was her best bet. The Spaniard felt if she could figure out who that digimon was she could build some solid theory regarding all of this mess.

Magnus had to admit, Katherine alternating between moments of massive insight, just to doubt about herself at the slightest flattery was something completely endearing, and kinda adorable, to boot. He couldn’t avoid to smile a bit dumbly at the display as Jazz flew towards the place that had served as Miyu’s prison not long ago.
Such a journey would be accompannied by its fair share of interesting discoveries. Of course, the pattern would be be pretty clear once she gave the place a look after its warden departed. Every prisoner was a rookie-level digimon or even less, and most of them had distinctly avian features; it made sense that Miyu would be imprisoned here, and maybe even that the warden itself had been a birdlike digimon. That, however, also ruled out the possibility of any of Magnus’ partners being present, sadly enough. However, it opened the possibility for them being decently near, at least in case other containment blocks followed the same normals regarding how to group their prisoners.
However, Jazz’s time was certainly running short. From where the first warden had exited, two other birdlike digimons descended; these looked like fairly big terrestrial birds with menacing appearances and a reddish coloration that was slightly off-putting. They began inspecting every corner of the cell, slowly sniffing every inch of the room. Unless Jazz had any ideas on how to avoid the very vigilant and sudden inspectors, chances were that not even her invisibility could save her from being spotted.
What about the other group, then? It seemed like Katherine wasn’t a fan of being idle, and for a very understandable reason. Now that Magnus was able to give the room a look, he as well recognized the strange symbols that adorned the wells, even though he wasn’t nearly as proficient as his peer at deciphering them.
In fact, quite the contrary actually. The male wasn’t all that great at following what his companion was saying, but did his best to follow along with her explanations. Least to say, these drawings proved to be very interesting, even though the only thing the group could do as of now was to speculate on their actual meaning rather than enunciating any actual thesis regarding them. In any case, and after some seconds of idle contemplation, Magnus finally spoke. “Maybe they were influenced by that devil-squid thing? Maybe it orchestrated whatever happened in this place. But wonder what it looked to gain from doing what he did.” He made a pause, just to add a few seconds later. “Maybe he wanted the crystals for himself? It’d explain why whatever’s lurking in this place seems to hold them so dearly, at least assuming that’s what we’re dealing with. I can’t really think of any other reason, but I also feel like we’re missing some clues to have the full picture. What do you think, Katherine?”
Luckily, everyone present had Akemi’s knowledge at their disposal. Miyu might’ve goitten offended she wasn’t asked as well, considering her nature as an aquatic digimon as well, but… she was too busy examining a funny-looking rock that seemed embedded in one of the walls. In any case, the Numemon seemed fairly certain —at least for her standards— when she spoke. “Th-that’s a Marine D-Devimon. They usually m-mean bad news even th-though they’re n-nice ones out th-there.”
In this case in particular? It seemed to be the bad news type, but it was also not something easy to know. The complete truth would only be uncovered with time.

Given the clues were clear, Jazz was quite agile in understanding the pattern this room followed. Birds guarding locked birds. The wardens being slightly alarmed at one of the cages being empty, of course. But where were the yellow-eyed rocks now, then?
Although these recent discoveries made the nature of this room clearer, they did nothing to dissipate the overall doubts she could have about this place in general. Sadly, since only birds were kept here, none of Magnus’ partners could be found. Given that she had taken a good look at the room and nothing got her attention, it was probably a good time to move on.
The CefiroDarcmon was pushed to execute the idea she already had in mind when two more wardens appeared. These looked more skillful and determined on finding whatever was wrong in here. Considering she was what was wrong in here, she knew she had to move quickly!
Since she did not have any trick to hide her scent or her overall presence further than the card she was using, and being that there were not more exists in the room beside the one Miyu had artificially created herself, there was only one place to go to keep exploring the secrets of this place. The angel locked her eyes on the warp gate above and, making use of her camouflage to remain as undetected as she could, just zoomed flying towards the portal, hopefully, she could cross it to the other side, just how that first warden had done. What were the chances she could? What would she find on the other side?
Back on the floor right below that one, in the chamber the rest of the group had decided to explore, Katherine listened to Magnus closely. The Spaniard nodded at the brunette’s deductions but decided to wait for Akemi’s answers before contributing to that one yet.
“Marine Devimon…” She muttered, looking at the menacing creature. The Numemon seemed to be 100% creature that was the digimon depicted there.
“I don’t know a lot about aquatic digimon, but if that’s a creature from the Devimon family, these cannot be good news.” Jaenryu noted with his deep, characteristic voice. “Devimon are known for being able to taint the hearts of smaller, weaker creatures. They can fill the hearts of other digimon with evil sentiments in order to control them in the search for their own objectives.” The fire dragon faced the paintings again. “Judging by what I can see here, I would say that’s exactly what he did to these little ones.”
Katherine nodded again, ready to complement Magnu’s own deductions. “I would definitely say that it influenced them. It changed something on them so they turned against Anubismon.” She squinted, glancing at the hieroglyphs again. “However, look at this.” The Spaniard walked up a small set of stairs to get closer to the piece, standing on a small platform while pointing at a specific part of the incomplete third drawing. “Here you can see the yellow-eyed things taking the crystals away from the core. Then, in this drawing here...” She pointed at the continuation of that one. “… Marine Devimon looms over the core, but Anubismon is not there anymore. We could rule that off on the piece not being finished, but...”
It was likely things the group had deduced before started clicking again for them.
“You think Marine Devimon ordered them to leave the core vulnerable by taking and hiding the crystals, so he could get his hands on it.”
“… And that’s why Anubismon is trying to make us gather the crystals again. He probably wants us to take them to the core so he can be summoned and fight Marine Devimon. The rest of the digimon are either under Marine Devimon’s control or imprisoned; we’re his only hope.”
The satisfaction of getting closer to finding out the truth and a piece of the enigma unveiling would be feeble. After all, it was a matter of time before Miyu touched that funny-looking rock embedded on the wall, right? If (When?) she did… nothing would happen on her side. Katherine would be the one to experience the consequences of such action, when the rocky platform below her started disappearing out of nowhere, leaving her to slowly fall to a dark pit. The progressive nature of the floor just vanishing below Katherine, made everything happen in slow motion for her. The Spaniard’s eyes widened as panic started invading her body. She desperately extended her hand to try to grab onto something but… would anything react quick enough to grab her? And, furthermore… could that be resistant enough to not fall into the darkness with her?

Jazz’s decision to push ahead into the unknown was quite risky, but at least for the time being, it paid off. She managed to get past the birds’ notice and ascend into the gate where they had previously entered.
What was on the other side was both expected and a little bit boring from the prison-like structure; a hallway that branched into various gates like the one Jazz had just used to enter, and a nearly-constant influx of digimon entering and exiting the various gates among it. Depending on the time she decided to linger on the hallway, she could probably establish the same pattern as with the avian digimons’ cages. Robotic and android-like digimon seemed to heavily favor one of the gates, and the same applied to predominantly aquatic digimons, reptiles, angels, and other varieties of digimons. This could probably help her locate Magnus’ missing partners, or at least a decent portion of them, if she remembered their species.
Yet, a single question lingered in the air. Would she go ahead on her own, or seize the opportunity to retreat and inform everyone back at their location? The choice was hers. In the meantime, it seemed like the group comprised by everyone else was unveiling the ancient mysteries regarding this place’s origin, and how things happened to be the way they were.
Apparently, Jaenryu’s opinion on MarineDevimon was quite the more more aggressive than Akemi’s, given that one of his species was being implicitly framed for the grim destiny this place ultimately had. Magnus remained pensive at this conclusion; could this really be the case? At plain sight, it seemed like it, but he wondered whether that was the full truth or if there was something else they were missing? At least for the time being, it was a bit hard to know. “It seems weird that somebody would paint this and everyone would leave it be if it told the truth. After all, if MarineDevimon was the bad guy, I’d probably wouldn’t like having the bad rep in my very home? It seems a little fishy to me.”
Least to say, the pun had definitely not been intended, just like Katherine’s unexpected fall into what’d probably be a pretty messy death. Luckily, Magnus happened to be around and hastily extended his hand to get a hold of the female’s arm and pull her upwards, hopefully to a safe, non-in-risk-of-crumbling surface. He obviously looked distraught at what might’ve happened and had acted out of reflex more than anything else. Once it seemed like nobody would fall to their demise any time soon, he gave Katherine a look before setting her back on her feet. “You okay? That was a close call.”
Of course, Miyu scooted away as stealthily as she could from the rock while everyone seemed worried about the human girl’s welfare.

“Katherine’s a Shakomon, which is like a giant clam…”
Without a doubt, Jazz remembered that much. The idea of a Shakomon holding the name of her tamer had been such a funny idea that it had remained engraved in her memory. Now, she was at the operational base where all of the gates were located, where these wardens made their way through these hallways to reach the gates and check the prison rooms where, hopefully, the rest of the species remained.
The angel made sure to check what these wardens did when coming in from one of these gates. Like… what was their pattern once they were done inspecting their respective cell? Were they going somewhere else? Was there a warp gate that took to some central room where they all emerged from? Maybe that would be just too easy.
In any case, once she made sure to give it enough time in searching for the existence of a central room, Jazz pushed forward. If she could still remain undetected for a little longer and could, at the very least, make sure she had spotted one of Magnus’ partners, she would do so, in order to go back with some tangible data.
The CefiroDarcmon flew swiftly through the respective hall and went through the gate favored by aquatic digimons.
While Katherine was barely starting to process Magnus’ concern, potential disaster had stiken.
Without having a solid, physical form, it was hard for Jaenryu to do a lot more than trying to engulf Katherine’s body to protect her from the fall as well as he could. Luckily, Magnus had reacted quickly enough to save the day. By pure inertia, Katherine’s body was pulled towards the young man, forcing her to hold onto him to avoid bouncing back. Luckily, Magnus was resistant enough to avoid falling to the floor with the girl on top on him, preventing this story from having a fan-service resource that has been re-used at least a million times in other narratives.
Still terrified and with her eyes wide open, Katherine was holding tight to Magnus’ shirt while breathing heavily. It was his voice that made her come back and understand she was safe. Still holding tight to him, she raised her head slowly, starting to realize who had aided her. She remained silent, looking at the brunette without issuing any word for some long seconds. “Y-Yes… It was.” She managed in a whisper. “Thank you. A-A lot.” The Spaniard added while taking some steps back, away from the dark pit and gaining distance from the man as she blushed a little.
“Thank you so much, young man.” Jaenryu expressed his gratitude with sincerity in his deep voice.
After staring at her savior for a bit too long, Katherine shook her head quickly, going back to his comments before all of this happened. “That’s… a very valid point.” She admitted while looking at the painting. “Maybe he doesn’t care cause he has no followers, only slaves. There’s also the chance he hasn’t explored the entirety of the catacombs and hasn’t found these but… then… the fact that painting is not finished… is very strange.” Without a doubt, Magnus had posited the very valid scope where… they may be being tricked. What if there was something else? Something beyond MarineDevimon being the bad guy?
Hopefully, Miyu had not walked away too far from that rock. It had started glowing and it now had a distinctive blue color.

As far as one could tell, Jazz’s infiltration mission was going extremely smoothly, yet… its inherent success was hanging on a crucial detail; Chameleon Cape. Had Magnus and company known how the card was supposed to work, they probably would’ve suggested something to avoid the oncoming event. Alas! While the D’Arcmon flew through the likely-to-be aquatic warp gate, she’d probably notice that the effects of the card that had granted her invisibility were beginning to fizzle out, and a couple of moments afterward going through it, she was completely visible again.
At the very least, the cell’s ambiance was exactly like she had predicted; many aquatic, or aquatic-adjacent digimons. And, among those, there was an unfriendly-looking Chaos Seadramon that looked to be the active warden, at least for the time being. “Intruder!!” The serpent shouted, immediately rousing any digimon that might’ve not noticed the event. “Shut down the entrances, now!”
The clamor that followed was pretty easy to notice. Jazz not only had to deal with the warden now; but also find a way to get away before the whole place became inescapable through traditional means. What would she do next? One could say that the situation that involved everyone else was less urgent, but no less dire; luckily, Magnus had managed to catch Katherine in the nick of time, and she had emerged the situation unscathed. In the aftermath of such a close call, the male smiled a bit shyly at the praise going his way. “You’re welcome. I’m glad nothing happened.” Truthfully, Jazz had done the same for him on this very day and he felt like the compliments were undeserved as that’s just what anyone on his spot would’ve done but… arguing that point was probably beyond silly.
It was a pity that they didn’t have all the necessary information to crack this very mystery at the moment, and it was a truth that whatever the reasoning, it seemed like they were in the thick of a conflict of interest between two forces. Would they eventually have to pick a side? At least for the time being, that one was unknown. What they knew, at least for the time being, was that their conversation would be interesting by a shrill, yet nondescript sound that came just from where Jazz had gone. “Th-that doesn’t sound very g-good.” Akemi mentioned while eyeing the sound’s general direction. “D-Did something happen t-to Jazz? Sh-should we go after her?”
And that wasn’t even the only thing they had to take care of. Miyu was fairly quick to point out the strange event that was happening near her. “Hey guys! This rock is shining too! What should we do about it? I don’t think it’ll do any good, but I’m not sure about what’s going to happen either.”
So many decision points, and so little time, too. The situation was borderline overwhelming, and the possible avenues to take were fairly ample. What would they do?

Although Jazz had no way of precisely calculating how long would the effect of Chameleon Cape would exactly last, she was more than aware that it could not last a lot more. However, she was also aware that, having reached this point, turning back would have the same result. Since the complexity of this prison was a completely unknown matter for her just some seconds ago, when reaching this bigger distributor she realized turning back meant going through another ample room, an action that required an amount of time the effect of the cape would not outlive. Instead, she had decided to push forward, figuring that, if they were going to find out she was here anyway, she better found as much information as she could first.
The angel tsk’d when the Chaos Seadramon inside the room saw her and triggered the figurative alarms. The cape had lasted even less than what she predicted, and she couldn’t even take any immediate action after entering the room before being discovered. Although she held more than one suspicion regarding the power level of this creature, she knew her first goal was to release the prisoners.
“I guess there’s no other way to do this…”
The Cefiro Darcmon lifted her staff in the air and a massive whirlwind started forming around her. This quickly turned into a massive, wide tornado that engulfed the whole room and swirled around her, the opponent, and all of the cages that could be located inside. In a way, it felt like the Jazz was controlling how the wind moved as the waves attempted to slash, knock over or slam the cages against walls to try and break the digimons in them free. In case this was not enough, Jazz would take advantage of the significant decrease of speed that would affect her opponent, and try to break the cages with her sword, or at least try to test their resistance.
“I’m here for the long game…” She muttered while glancing at the Chaos Seadramon and flying across the stage.
Katherine, who was still studying the situation with the rest of the group, flinched when hearing this shrill. As most of them knew would eventually occur, it was likely Jazz’s mission had been compromised. The Spaniard’s eyes widened as she turned towards Akemi and then back at the direction of the shrill. She nodded firmly, although Miyu’s voice distracted her again.
“Is that…?”
After locking her eyes on the object and immediately knowing what it was, Katherine sprinted towards Miyu’s position and firmly retired the item inserted on the wall, with the confidence of someone who knew nothing bad was going to happen, although she clearly did not have that certainty.
“Everyone, we need to go!” The Spaniard ran in the direction they came from and went through the hallway while looking at the shiny, blue crystal. Hopefully, Magnus and the rest would be able to keep up the pace without much trouble. Jeanryu took the lead, as he clearly could know where Jazz was located, having left a part of his fire stuck to her.
Meanwhile, Katherine attempted to communicate again with what they now knew was one of their hosts. “Anubimon!” She shouted, holding that crystal tightly. “We have the last crystal. If you’re ready to wake up, you better let us know where the core is!”
And, just like that? The creature seemed interested in answering now. A trail of yellow mist started materializing throughout the catacombs, apparently following a set path. When the path Jaenryu was supposed to follow to find Jazz and the path the yellow mist wanted them to follow bifurcated, Katherine slowed down abruptly, stopping in her tracks. She turned towards Magnus, looking at him in the eyes. “Jazz needs reinforcements. Please go help her. I’ll go talk to Anubimon, or whatever is in here. Whether he’s the good or the bad guy, he’s against whatever is in control now, and we already know they’re too resistant for us to engage in a long fight with them.” The green-eyed’s frame was a bit shaky. Of course, it terrified her to go wake up an ancient digimon all alone, but it didn’t look like they had time to do both things, did it? “I’ll find you once I’m done.” She nodded firmly right before getting ready to turn away and follow the trail of the yellow mist.
——Behold… the Power of the Wind!: A devastating storm is generated by Omen, engulfing the whole battle stage. The wind moves with great strength slowing down greatly everyone around the stage except for CefiroDarcmon, who can read perfectly how it moves. The storm lasts for 2 turns. 5 posts cooldown.

To say the least, Jazz’s current situation was fairly precarious; being thoroughly outgunned and outmatched wasn’t very hopeful, yet she was still determined to make out the most from this. Her next attack wasn’t quite directed towards her opponent, yet its effect on the environment could be clearly seen; the cages that littered the room showed visible signs of wear after being slammed by the violent winds, some being outright fractured by the ensuing gale.
Least to say, the liberated digimons poured out of their cells almost instantly; most of them frantically looked to further escape from this strange prison, yet not a lot could be accomplished in the ensuing tumult. In fact, the disorderly presence of the digimons that had been starving for freedom until now proved to be more of a hindrance than anything else.
Luckily, not all the news were bad ones. Jazz had, in fact, freed most of the imprisoned digimons, and at least a number of them had chosen to be sensible about their circumstances and decided to not expose themselves to an unpredictable and dangerous battlefield, and for just reason! It seemed like the Chaos Seadramon had taken a page from the Darcmon’s book, and exactly like she had summoned a whirlwind moments ago, a raging whirlpool began forming above the serpent’s head.
“You won’t escape!” Moments afterward, raging currents began to assault the chamber as if they were a stormy sea, with the brunt of it directed at the angel. Being slowed down didn’t seem to be something that affected Jazz’s foe greatly, at least for the time being. It was on her to harness the new environment in her favor, in case that was possible. Otherwise? Things wouldn’t look so good. In the meantime, it seemed like the other group had caught wind of the ongoing situation, at least regarding that something might have been horribly wrong with Jazz. Some glances were exchanged amongst Magnus and Akemi before Katherine’s own urgent call; neither member of the trio was one-hundred percent sure of what was exactly going on, but they could certainly make an accurate guess regarding the nature of it. The human and the two digimons careened right behind Jaenryu while the curly-haired girl attempted to communicate with… Anubimon, apparently? Guess that desperate situations called for desperate measures.
Nevertheless, it was fairly surprising when the thing actually responded and wanted nothing more and nothing less than for the group to split. Was that a good idea? Leaving Katherine alone didn’t exactly sit well with Magnus; a lone human was pretty much defenseless in a situation like this one. Was there anything he could do to lessen the burden on her? An idea sprung to the male’s mind right away, and even if he wondered whether what he was about to propose was a good idea or not for a second, he decided to go with his gut instinct given that time was of the essence. Returning her gaze, he spoke. “Take Miyu with you. She’ll at least be able to protect you somewhat. I’ll leave with Akemi at once.”
Given how the situation didn’t lend itself to any arguments, Magnus just evolved Akemi and went off in the direction of Jazz’s disappearance. Miyu, on the other hand, stood beside Katherine, an expectant look in her avian eyes. “Ready when you are, cap’n!”
What would come next? That was the true mystery. At least for the time being, the only thing that Magnus could hope for was that he wasn’t too late to help Jazz with whatever was hounding her.

Whether it was because neither they nor their target had moved too far away from their departing point or because of the pure adrenaline, the situation demanded, the road towards Jazz would prove to be considerably short. Eventually, Jaenryu stopped at the middle of one of those murky clears located between the long, rocky hallways, and looked above. “This is the place!” He noted with certainty.
Of course, Jazz was still occupying the floor above this intermediate floor they were now on. “Could you open a small breach to go there and help her, Akemi?” He asked, clearly focusing on the exact part of the roof she should pierce through. “Please be careful, we don’t know what’s happening in there, neither do we want the whole place crumbling on us.”
From down there, they could hear there was certainly a lot of movement up above. Something Jazz was very well aware of! The CefiroDarcmon’s eyes widened when she saw this monster make a copy of her technique, although using water as the leading element. “I wasn’t trying to!” That probably wasn’t entirely true…. But still! Jazz raised her staff in the air, redirecting the slashing currents of wind around her towards the water coming her way. She was not trying to make the wind be her shield but, instead, for it to mix up with the raging water and redirect the currents, as if this was just another brutal storm on high seas. Still considering a part of this whirlpool could not be stopped by her wind, she was more than willing to take damage in order to redirect a significant portion of this water. If thing went as planned, a giant whirlpool would be swirling around the whole room soon after. The wind was supposed to be the vessel that partly controlled the violent nature of the water.
Realizing the environment had radically changed, and knowing how many released digimon now occupied the room, she called for those who could benefit the most from this context, those water digimon that were prisoners some seconds ago.
“Hey!! Everyone!! I’m going to need your help! You know how to deal with water, don’t you?” She shouted, her eyes closed. Whether this worked or not, the second part of her speech would be directed at a certain someone in particular.
“Katherine! Are you here!? Magnus and Akemi have been looking for you!”
Would the Shakomon respond to the call? Could Akemi arrive in time to fight along with her sister? Things probably couldn’t work out that well, right?
In any case, Jazz was already getting ready to attack herself in case everything went to hell.
Katherine had shown a faint smile to Magnus and then to Miyu, once the General decided she better take one from his army to protect her. There was something about a person she had just met saving her moments ago and now trying to give her any type of protection that warmed the Spaniard’s heart. She nodded firmly and turned around to follow the mist, hopefully with Penmon following suit.
Not long after the bifurcation, the pair would reach another clear. The room it held was significantly smaller than the others they had seen so far, but also had a very particular aura to it. It was as if it belonged to a separate dimension, as if it was isolated from the rest of the cave. Although she had no way confirming it geographically, to Katherine it felt as if she was the heart of this place. Which would make sense according to what they had seen in the inscriptions.
At the center of the room, a tall pedestal was located. On top of it, a black, cube-like item. The mist that had brought the two of them there had disappeared. “There’s no doubt. This is the core that we saw in the hieroglyphs.” Suddenly, Katherine’s eyes widened. She could feel her heartbeat increase and the air around the room turned a lot heavier. Having a bit of trouble breathing, she took out the other three crystals from her bag, and held the four of them in her hands.
“D-Do you… feel that?” She asked, looking at Miyu, and then at the core. “It’s like it is… calling us.”
The floor started shaking, although not aggressively. Four pedestals more were rising from the ground, forming a cross around that found its center on the black core. The green-eyed looked at each of the pedestals and then at the core. “It wants us to put the crystals back around the core, jut like in that picture we saw…” She muttered, as this overwhelming energy kept glooming above the two. It was calling. It was yelling, even. It was desperate for them to put the crystals there.
Katherine took a deep breath and turned towards Miyu. “Should we…?” She started a sentence she never finished, looking clearly concerned about the consequences giving Anubimon what it wanted or not could have.
“Do you have like…. A digimon instinct for this stuff?” She asked. “What does your gut feeling say?”
——Aura, la Tormenta: Once again, the wind surrounds CefiroDarcmon’s body, this time at great speed, creating a tornado around her, protecting her from any attack from ultimate or below leveled digimon. The shield only reduces to a 50% the damage taken from Mega leveled digimon and it doesn't work against Super Mega (or above) leveled digimon's attacks, while she charges a dreadful attack, raising Le Blanc Pucelle into the sky. The next turn, CefiroDarcmon releases her charged-up technique, she starts spinning inside her own tornado, flying at full throttle against the opponent, piercing right through them, dealing an enormous amount of damage. 6 posts cooldown.

Magnus didn’t like this situation in the slightest. However, he was pretty much forced to deal with it as it came. Parting ways with Katherine wasn’t something he fancied doing, especially given the degree of danger she was putting herself in, but it wasn’t like there was any other sensible choice at hand, or even the time to think about something they might’ve missed. With one final silent prayer for her success and safety, he focused on his very own task. Being distracted could very well spell the doom of the entire group and was no better than being dead weight.
Eventually, Jaenryu stopped by what looked like a random stop between hallways, pointing to the likely location of Jazz. Some brute force could save them a lot of time, seemingly; after the spirit’s words, Magnus gave Akemi a look, and she nodded in understanding. Brandishing her staff, she extended it upwards in a graceful, yet deadly motion. The resulting gap was big enough for everyone present to go through, but not much more than that; even in the heat of the moment, it seemed to be precisely crafted according to Jaenryu’s specifications.
“Let’s advance. Hopefully we’re on time.” Despite Magnus' outward confidence, the truth was that nothing could possibly prepare him for what awaited. How had the situation turned so… chaotic so suddenly? Her memory was fuzzy, and she didn’t remember all that well what happened, or why she ended up in a situation like this one. In her haze, the only things the digimon remembered were being herded by… something, and ending up in some dank, crowded cell with beings that she barely recognized.
Why was everything so blurry? She never remembered ever feeling so sluggish, yet here she was. She felt uncomfortably slow, yet no matter how much she struggled, the digimon couldn’t remove the haze from her mind. This stupor, as oddly calm as it was, was also vaguely frustrating. Even in the face of… movement? She didn’t know why, but everyone seemed to be panicking, or struggling around the cell’s bars even more. The sudden flow of water awakened her slightly, but the Shakomon still failed to see urgency in the matter. It was only when the angel’s visage became clear that the haze began to dissipate.
She was supposed to do something here, right? She had companions… and even a name. What was her name? It suddenly pierced her like a ray of lucidity, and that’s when everything suddenly became clear. Katherine! That was her name. And both her general and her sister were looking for her. What the hell was she doing here, lazing around? She had to get to work.
Despite not identifying the voice that had called towards her, the shellfish strode towards the voice, which belonged to the angel she had seen before. She gave her a look, and then blinked. “And you’re supposed to be…?” This obviously wasn’t Akemi, or Miyu, or Sasha. Not even Mai.
Of course, there was no time for pleasantries, given the situation. The ChaosSeadramon redoubled its efforts at weaving through the attacks of the Darcmon variant and assaulting in return, and Jazz would quite likely have her hands full dealing with it. However, amid the repetition of the water typhoon, a Sagomon, a human, and a weird spirit thing would likely emerge from a small gap in the ground, look around, and finally affix their gaze on the combatants, and the puzzled clam that was near them.
“S-sister!” Akemi exclaimed for the briefest of moments before Magnus took the initiative. “We need to get away from this place as quickly as possible! Jazz, grab Katherine as quickly as you can. We can get back through the breach opened by Akemi!”
It was hard to tell if they could avoid ChaosSeadramon’s attacks in time, even less so if everyone could squish themselves through the small opening without being pursued, but the attempt was worth a shot, wasn’t it? In the meantime, Miyu diligently followed Katherine as their journey brought them deeper into this strange cave. As they advanced, they found what was admittedly a weird altar-like place; the penguin gave a brief look around before speaking to Katherine. “Sorry. I don’t really feel anything!” Truth to be told, Miyu was fairly dense at this kind of things, so she probably wouldn’t be holding any meaningful conversations any time soon. She, however, had something to say regarding the situation. “I’d do it, though! If we’re here, it must be for a reason, right? I’m sure everything will be fine as long as you go with your instinct!”
In this case? Miyu’s instinct was to act, and she wholeheartedly supported Katherine in this endeavor. “Unless this place has anything else to note, I don’t think there’s much for us to do, anyway!”
And at least on that aspect, she was correct.

Weren’t it for the chaotic situation at hand, Jazz would have spent a considerable amount of time shocked at the situation developing. It was already odd enough to be looking for a Shakomon named Katherine, but it was even stranger to see her address her! Even if it was just a name similarity, there was something deeply odd about having to come to help a digimon that was not her tamer but was exactly named like her. “My name is Jazz!” She managed while fending off the water flying everywhere propelled by the wind. “It’s nice to meet you!” The angel added. Luckily, before the situation turned even more confusing, she would see the group emerge from the floor, accompanied by Jaenryu. “Y-You’re here!” She managed, still having a considerable amount of trouble dealing with this raging storm. In the end, Jazz’s mission was to find and protect Katherine, and, although being a lot less stealthy than what she would have liked, she had managed to get pretty far on that goal, so she was going to work on that until the end. The CefiroDarcmon landed in front of Magnus, his partners, and Jaenryu, creating a new redirecting current of wind to protect them from the upcoming water and give them time to escape through the gap. “Go! I’ll follow you!” She managed, as her body showed the dire injuries this battle had caused. It was then when the whole chamber started shaking, even further than how it was frenetically being rattled before. This went beyond a certain technique causing stride, they could feel the entire place shaking as if it was about to disappear. There was an enormous force manifesting over this place, and it didn’t seem happy! “It would seem Katherine did something…” Jaenryu muttered. “Go!” He instructed the group before merging back with Jazz. His work here was done.
And yes! Katherine had definitely done something. The Spaniard nodded at Miyu, who pushed her to follow her own instincts. That’s what she had been trying to do for a while, hasn’t she? She was actively trying to be more assertive and have more trust in herself, so the Penmon passing the ball back to her was probably exactly what she needed. There was not a lot more to do, just as the critter said. “I have no clue if you are the good or the bad guy here…” She explained as she walked towards each pedestal and put each of the gems they had collected with lots of effort through this whole ordeal. “… But I just want me and my friends to be out of here in one piece, so you better help us with that part in exchange for bringing you back!” The reaction to her putting the last mysterious jewel in place was immediate. The whole place started shaking abruptly again and she could hear a voice resonate from deep within the chamber. “Ma…. “ “… Devi….” “MARIN DEVIMON!”
An ancient voice screamed in wrath. “DON’T FORGET OUR DEAL, YOU BASTARD!”
Katherine screamed back with all of her lungs, that shout getting drowned in the noise caused by the shaking. Slowly, she felt her body vanish, and her first reaction was to run toward Miyu and hug her, making sure if she was teleported, the Penmon would come with her too. “There is… An evil force is waking up!” Jazz could feel a dark, evil energy growing somewhere in this place, ready to come into play. It was almost as overwhelming as Luke’s final form, and it definitely wanted revenge. As the floor crumbled below her, she could see what looked like the ghost of Anubismon materializing in front of ChaosSeadramon and trying to impale it to death with a savage blow. The water swirling around started taking a monstrous shape, creating a gigantic, sea-devil she had never seen before. The image was shocking, but she had to come back to her senses as everything kept crumbling. The rest of the group would find themselves in a similar situation, now it was not only the floor under Jazz, even the floor below the gap and further below that kept crumbling. Everything was just turning into a giant black hole and they were all falling through it. Katherine and Miyu would materialize out of thin air around the rest of the group too, falling into the void. “Eek!!” Katherine grabbed her digivice and pressed it against her chest as she fell. “Kath…!” Jazz reacted to her tamer appearing next to her right before her body got engulfed in light again. Having turned into a giant hippogryph, Jazz flew at great speed to relocate below Magnus and the rest, catching them with her wings. “Everyone! We’re getting out of here!” She shouted, as rocks and debris kept falling around them. “Akemi, Katherine, help me clear the way out!” The beast called for help as she flew up with the crew at her back.

Least to say, the Shakomon wasn’t precisely out of the weird torpor that had been afflicting her for who-knows how much time. She stared at Jazz quizzically, but ultimately nodded at her. “Pleased to meet you too.” Even her words seemed a bit doubtful, but that didn’t matter when having the current situation into account.
Magnus’ group was safe, at least for the time being. “You sure you’re fine, Jazz? You don’t look so well…” The male’s voice trailed off; the truth was that, even that being the case, this was probably their best shot at leaving. Given the tremor that followed, there were even less reasons to be doubtful about it. After Akemi went and procured Katherine and the sigh of relief that followed, the group began to backtrack their path towards the crack from where they had emerged. Right now, the best they could hope was that Jazz wouldn’t overexert herself that much, and that whatever was happening would play in their favor… whatever that was. Who would’ve known, that for what felt like the first time ever, Miyu had actually given anyone good advice. The penguin looked with curiosity at the events being set in motion after Katherine set the crystals; truth to be told, she didn’t have the best of feelings about this, but that must also mean that something good was to happen, right? Well, not much else could be said when the identity of whatever was lurking was revealed. Marin Devimon didn’t sound very happy, and that didn’t sound so good for the well-being of either of them. However, Miyu wasn’t unaware of how her companion’s body was losing solidity progressively, and that probably meant that at least they had done something well. She ran towards the human and held her tightly, knowing that they were in this together, and nodding with uncharacteristic solemnity.
“I think you did a good job!” She exclaimed, truthfully. Despite the possible repercussions, it was a positive thing that the human could stand on her own two feet, right? And, considering how her own body was shimmering as well, that meant that whatever she did, at least was somewhat right.
What came next, then? That would be found out soon enough. “Sounds like something we needed just now.” Magnus replied to Jazz snarkily. It wasn’t directed at her, but who could blame anyone for that reaction in the face of more bad news? The fact that the aforementioned bad news had taken the form of Anubismon and decided to take its anger on the Seadramon was… a relief, all things considered.
Both the humans and the digimons stared agasp for a couple of seconds; the savage blow that the serpent had received seemed nothing more and nothing less than crippling, and no doubt a moment of respite to the group. “S-so strong.” There wasn’t much time for idle remarks like that one, but one couldn’t deny such a simple truth, especially in the face of the overwhelming power just displayed.
And no less, just in time for human-Katherine and Miyu to appear, almost as if some sort of magic had been involved all along. It was a good thing that Jazz had a form that could accommodate all the fallers and everyone else, really! Otherwise, no one knew what could happen amid this chaos. Everyone fell somewhat snugly on her back, and even if the space was a little cramped, at least everyone could ride on top of the not-quite hippogriff. With everything collapsing around them, nobody could say anyone disagreed with Jazz’s plans, however.
“Katherine, focus on the small obstacles, Akemi will take care of anything that looks like a pressing issue.” Considering their current situations, that’s what made the most sense. Katherine wasn’t strong enough to help with anything too big without evolving, and it was probably fairly impossible for Jazz to maneuver comfortably or even fly at all if she had to deal with something like a top-heavy Anomalocarimon. “The path ahead is our priority. We need to get out of here.”
Even if it had been a single blow, ChaosSeadramon was definitely worse from the wear after such a powerful strike. Yet it still wasn’t finished, and was quite angry. However, its focus had been diverted from the prisoner group towards the shadow assaulting it. And that resulted in a fierce fight that was throwing debris everywhere. For now, the only thing Magnus could do was making sure he was holding tightly to Jazz, and making sure Katherine was doing the same. “Just an exciting way to meet up, don’t you think?” Humor not fit for this situation for sure, but at least they were doing relatively better than some moments before, even though that wasn’t saying exactly much.
It was only then when he remembered something that had taken a backseat in his mind. Just after Katherine shot down a rock falling towards them, he asked. “Katherine, do you know where Sasha and Mai are? Neither Kemi nor Miyu knew much about them.”
While somewhat distracted, the Shakomon could mutter an answer. “They were together the last time I saw them. I don’t remember exactly were, but it’s probably not very far from this place. We were separated shortly before my imprisonment. We should keep our eyes open in case we see any of them.”
The sheer amount of adrenaline had definitely made her come to her senses a lot faster. With any luck, the group would be able to find the missing members before this cave-in claimed them. With this information, the male looking at her fellow human. “Keep your eyes open, if they’re out there, chances are Jazz will have to sweep in to rescue them.”
With this in mind the group would hopefully exit the chamber safely, even though no place seemed safe from the crumbling cave at the moment. Where would they go now?
