Getting Up To Speed (Lantis)

Lantis was glad to hear that from Speed. "Thanks for that, mate. Even though the relationship with me and Bells is more complicated than usual - you know, my partner is his parter's sister, so we're not exactly closely related, well, we still live under the same roof, so we still care for each other deep down."
For the most part, Lantis liked to maintain an air of superiority over Bellamy in their household, mainly because his partner was the elder sister of the family, but, still, there were much more layers of complexity over that. Yes, Lantis would claim to be the top cat when challenged, but, there was more depth to it than that. He knew his "partner-in-law" had much more depth than was obviously present, and he respected that.
Lantis was somewhat glad to hear these assholes be scolded for their lack of awareness of the situation. While he wanted to stand up and punch them for calling Speed a freak so obviously, he remained resolutely still as the events played out. He listened to the explanation that they had known each other in the Village of Beginnings. And it seemed very likely that they would cause trouble for them once they left the restaurant.
"Well then. If that's the case, let's eat up all we can to keep our energy high." Lantis replied to Speed. "And if they give us crap when we leave, well, we'll be at full energy when we kick their sorry arses together." he finished with a grin.
Lantis was looking forward to it actually. It had been a while since he had cast down justice against pricks like these. And then, right on cue, their "perfect burgers" were served - two each. Lantis picked up his first one and took a bite, and felt energized to the maximum. This beautiful harmony in his mouth - of the wheat of the buns, the juices of the meat, the flavours that had been preserved in their cooking. There was no doubt in his mind now, Max was the real deal when it came to digimon chefs.
"Oh man..." he said to Speed after he had finished his first burger, proceeding to the second. "You know, I honestly hope they're still there to give us crap, I feel like I can riverdance on their faces after this!" he then excitedly ripped into his second burger.

It was obvious that the encounter with those three Digimon had really impacted Speed's mood. Where he was bubbly, energetic and a jokester before, now he just looked either tired or bored, resting his head on his claws. Lantis didn't know it wasn't just as simple as putting them in their place; they dealt a lot psychological damage to Speed all those years ago... if Speed tried to fight them now, there's no telling what could happen. "This was the reason why I was afraid to come..."
Speed raised an "eyebrow" in interest when their burgers were served. Lantis mentioned how he could riverdance on those assholes' faces after eating it. Speed just groaned. "Can we just stop talking about them? Please?" Speed asked, getting annoyed by all of Lantis' jabs at them. Not that they didn't deserve it, but it was getting old.
The blue drake looked down towards his own burger. It definitely looked delicious, so maybe this was what he needed to stop feeling down? Speed picked up his burger and took a small bite, before his eyes widened with enthusiasm.
THIS IS THE BEST THING I'VE EVER TASTED! Speed thought as he ate the rest of the burger even faster than Lantis did, which for him was eating at a normal pace. Max wasn't kidding, this really was the perfect burger! It was definitely something to take him out of his funk, at least temporarily.
Still, he couldn't help but think of the trio on the other side of the area, and how they treated him and Psych back at the Village of Beginnings. They went as far as to say that he and his brother weren't even real Digimon... you can't get more hurtful than that.
However, while Speed wasn't looking at them, if Lantis was looking at their table he'd notice them periodically look back at the couple's table. While their facial expressions were hard to read, it definitely didn't look like they were planning anything cruel...

It was clear that Speed's mood had been ruined by seeing these digimon. As much as Lantis wanted to teach them a lesson, that if they called his boyfriend a freak in front of him that he'd deliver them a world of pain, it was the fact that Speed didn't want to focus on them that calmed him down.
"Well, alright." the Leomon said in response. This was about them after all, and he wasn't going to let those basic assholes get in the way of their date.
As Lantis had grown up being trained as a security guard in Terminus City, he knew to pay attention to where potential troublemakers were looking. And the fact he saw the strangers' eyes frequently look at them made him think that they intended something for them once their meals were over. Lantis silently dared them to try. Just one provocation... but for now, he focused on how Speed was doing. He didn't want the mood ruined by this.
"Mmm, nothing beats some good old steamed hams, eh?" Lantis asked, making conversation. Unfortunately saying this invoked the wrath of the chef.
"HOW DARE YOU CALL MY OBVIOUSLY GRILLED BURGERS STEAMED YOU BARBARIC IMBECILE-"
The Impmon-X was held back by Floramon and Gabumon.
"No! Chef! It's just a human world meme!" Gabumon cried as they dragged him back to the kitchen.
"Yeah! It's from upstate New York!" Floramon added.
Lantis glanced at them as they did so, before turning back to Speed. "Yep, he's Bellamy's kid." he concluded with a giggly demeanor, having had Bellamy yell at him enough to make the comparison.
Wiping his mouth with a napkin, there wasn't much else for Lantis to do other than pay the bill when it was presented, which he did so without bringing up Speed's old tormentors. "So then, what do you feel like doing now?" he asked, looking forward for an excuse to get him as far away from them as possible.

If there was one thing that was constant about Speed, it would be that every part of him lives up to his name. Just a minute ago his mood was lowered by the arrival of those customers, and now he was as happy as could be as he munched on his perfectly made burgers. It was as if he just momentarily forgot about what had just happened!
After he finished his meal, Lantis also agreed that the burgers were very good, although he was confused about why he called them "steamed hams". Visible confusion was extremely present on Speed's face, but before he could ask about it the cook Max suddenly started shouting at Lantis, startling Speed considerably. It was so bad that Gabumon and Floramon even had to hold the chef back. The scene definitely didn't go unnoticed by the trio on the other side.
"The hell is the chef's problem?" Fusao asked, as they didn't hear Lantis's comment about the burger.
"Something that does not involve us," The Shurimon Hayate responded. "Besides, it seems to be settling down."
"Let's try to not make him angry ourselves," Ujarak said as he sweatdropped.
Now that the situation was settled and the food was finished, Lantis asked Speed what he would like to do now. "Well, now that I got some grub in my belly I'm all energetic! I was thinkin' maybe I could truly show you how fast I can go, if you get what I mean?"
Before the two of them could leave though, Hayate had walked up to their table. Out of the three, he seemed at least okay compared to the others. "Pardon me, but can I speak to you for a minute, Speed?"
"A minute for you is an hour for me, so no thanks," Speed said coldly as he zoomed off, just waiting a little bit away from the restaurant to allow Lantis to catch up.
"I knew that would happen..." the Shurimon sighed. Before Lantis left, he spoke again. "Despite my friend's behavior and whatever Speed may have told you, we're not here to cause trouble or hurt him again. We simply mean to apologize, in any way we can."

Lantis chuckled a little here. "Ah, don't worry, I've seen Bellamy react like this enough to know that he doesn't really mean us harm, he's just making a dramatic scene." the Leomon assured Speed quietly, as he noted his discomfort.
As they finished their meals, Speed said that he'd like to truly show off his abilities. In that moment, Lantis thought that he really might like that. Just... to power down for a little while and let someone he liked just carry him forward for a little while. Yeah. That'd be nice.
Unfortunately those thoughts were disturbed by one of the digimon that clearly bothered Speed spoke up and asked him a question. Lantis listened at the limit of his patience, but his outer shell was breached by the fact that Shurimon at least spoke of remorse.
While Lantis cared quite a lot about Speed that the fact that these digimon had hurt him so much made him angry, but, there was also the fact that people could change. And so Lantis took a deep breath and composed himself.
"I appreciate that you'd like to bury the hatchet with past wrongdoings, but, I'm afraid that this is no easy cure." he replied, folding his arms, but didn't grow angry. He simply wanted to state the facts. "I don't know much about what happened, but I do know that you and your friends hurt Speed and his brother Psych in your childhood. I appreciate that you want to make amends for that, but perhaps now is not the right time. However, I will tell him at some point that you do want to make amends, and I hope we can work all of this out."
Lantis turned to leave, but looked over his shoulder at Shurimon before he did so. "You're a good digimon to say these things. Thank you." And with that, he would move to catch up to Speed, if he could.

"He might lose customers if he keeps making 'dramatic scenes' like that," Speed replied. "Though that burger was so good I might just come down here again, maybe even with Psych." Though he did get his fill, his mouth was still salivating over the thought of eating another one of those burgers.
Hayate had nodded when Lantis said forgiveness was no easy cure. "We understand. We did something horrible to him as in-training Digimon, something that I myself am having a hard time admitting. Fusao was our ringleader and Ujarak and I were followers, but that is no excuse. We will be ready to talk when he is." There was no hint of lying or dishonesty in the Shurimon's tone of voice. He was telling the truth.
As Lantis left, he told Hayate that he was a good Digimon for saying these things. He lowered his head. "A good Digimon I am not, but thank you anyways. We hope you and Speed have a good day."
As Hayate went back to his table, Fusao and Ujarak were eager to hear what happened. "I guess talking to Speed went poorly?"
"Speed still refuses to speak to us. And who could blame him? But there may be a chance, possibly. We just... need to give him time."
Outside the dining area, Speed was right there waiting for Lantis, a big smile on his face. "So I'm guessing you're gonna devolve to Rookie for this ride. Do you prefer me holding you princess-style, or do you wanna hop onto my back?"
Whatever Lantis would decide, once the two were ready Speed would start by taking a very slow jog, at least slow by his standards. It was almost like a normal person's jog. This was simply to build up momentum so that Lantis wouldn't be completely taken aback by the sudden rush of speed. Before long however, the Speedramon was zooming through the forest at his usual pace, to Lantis the surrounding areas would be nothing but blurs and messes of green, blue and occasionally brown. "How're you holding up there?" Speed would ask as he ran.

Lantis supposed he agreed with Speed's observation that Max acting like a primadonna might turn away customers, but, given that he had tasted what Max had to offer, and given that the Impmon-X was simply acting out like his dad, Lantis didn't think it'd be too negative thus far.
When Speed had departed, Lantis listened to what Hayate had to say, then nodded. "We all grow, and I'm glad that you feel this way. Of course, I rather care for Speed now, so, all I ask is that you and your friends please do not act hurtful to him or his brother again."
As long as they respected that, Lantis was fine with them. After all, he had messed up a lot with others when he was a rookie Spadamon. While he didn't expect those the had wronged to forgive him instantly, he at least held some hope that there was some way he could atone for those wrongs.
After Lantis left them, he was a little taken aback by how forward Speed was with his suggestion. Initially Lantis wanted to say that he intended to de-digivolve to Spadamon and ride on Speed's back, but, as he thought about it, he changed his mind.
"You know what?" he asked, the Leomon de-digivolving to his rookie Spadamon form. "I've never been princess-held and I like you enough to trust you to hold me properly, so, that's how I wanna do this."
Lantis hardly believed he had actually said this, so he doubled down to confirm. "Pick me up, hold me, then go as fast as you can, babe, I signed up for this, I wanna feel just how fast you can move."
As he said it, Lantis felt somewhat excited. He was eager to see the full strength of his boyfriend. As he let Speed carry him across the land, he felt a great thrill. Speed asked how he was going. Lantis attempted to reply verbally, but the wind dispelled his words too much to be heard. Instead, he gave a thumbs-up to indicate he was happy with the current treatment.

Speed blinked in surprise when Lantis requested to be held in Speed's arms during the run. He only really gave him the choice as a joke, thinking he'd much prefer to be on his back. Oh well, Speed didn't have too much of a problem with it (aside from the very small chance that he gets a case of butterclaws and drops Lantis by accident).
The Speedramon was also surprised to see just how adorable Lantis was as a Spadamon. It made sense, considering how attractive he is as a Leomon, but he hadn't seen Lantis' Rookie form before this point, so it was definitely a surprise. "So this is what it's like to be the tall one... I like it," Speed said in response.
Lantis gave Speed permission to go as fast as possible as he picked the Spadamon up. Depending on how this run goes, he might be wishing he could've rephrased those words most likely. Once he got to his full speed, that was it. The Speedramon was now just entirely in the zone, still holding on tightly to Lantis but there was no stopping him now.
While Lantis would be unaware of where they were at any given moment because of how blurry the world around him was, Speed knew perfectly well where he was going. He ran out of the training grounds and into the Mainframe Hills before zooming down to Rosewood, then Terminus City, then Vander Tower, then the Backup Bayou... Speed had run everywhere there was to possibly run to in the Eastern Timberlands, all within mere minutes!
Speed really felt energized and happy after this, he hadn't had a run like that in ages. After his run, he ran all the way back to the Spartan Training Grounds before coming to a sudden stop, still holding onto Lantis so he didn't go flying thanks to the inertia. He held the Spadamon in front of him. "So whaddya think of that, Lan?"

Lantis chuckled as Speed remarked that he liked being the tall one. "Well, I'm glad you feel like that, hopefully it's something we can experience equally." he said, purring a little with satisfaction. It was something of a deep down desire for him to be loved in whatever form he was in - whether it was the strong and mighty Leomon, or the fluffy and brave Spadamon. That Speed seemed to like him in both forms so far, he really liked that.
And so Lantis experienced what it was like to travel across the lands at such a velocity. He felt the wind in his white fur as they surged forward. Thankfully the acceleration and deceleration weren't too harsh, as the G-forces involved would have likely torn Lantis apart, but Speed took enough care for him that prevented that.
Then, as it came to a sudden stop, Lantis was almost knocked out by the sudden stop, but, he was enraptured enough to look past that.
"That was incredible!" he beamed. "I... nobody's ever done something like this for me before."
It was quite a feeling, to be carried away in someone's arms and have them show such an amazing experience. Lantis liked it very much.
"I think... I'd like to spend a whole lot more time with you, Speed." Lantis finished his thoughts with a grin. "Of course, we must carry out our AEGIS duties, but, I'd very much like to get to know you even better when we can manage it."
