School was out, and once again, Sakura found herself alone. No club activities, no friends, no family, no relationship... just the painful boredom of being alone in the big city. Bored, she checked the news on her phone. Apparently some nightclub got vandalized last night. Well, it didn't concern her. Weird stuff happened every day.
Well, at least the crowded train made her feel less alone. Even if the man next to her had his hand hovering centimetres away from her ass. Seriously? In this day and age? She tilted her phone behind her and took the man's photo in a frankly unsubtle manner before giving the man a cold glare. No words were exchanged, but the man shifted away from the young woman, presumably to ogle some other high school girl.
Well, it didn't concern her anymore. And if the guy was willing to give up so easily, he probably wasn't going to be an actual threat to anyone, and more of a creepy annoyance. So it shouldn't bother her at all. She went back to checking her phone.
Apparently some police officer was attacked in the Greater Shibuya area, but the officer wasn't able to identify the attacker. Pretty bold, attacking a cop, and even scarier that no one was able to see anything. Well, the police would probably increase their presence there, but it wasn't like the young woman was going to go hanging around in such a dangerous area, anyway. None of it concerned her. Her train stopped, and she figured she could check out some shops in the meantime. She figured she could pick up some new supplies, like some thread and notebooks before she headed back home.
Walking along with the crowd, she stared back at her phone. She might as well delete the photo of the pervert. And... there! Creepy guy was now out of her phone, and out of her life! Then her shoulder bumped into someone passing by. She waved as an apology and started to walk away, but she suddenly felt a large hand grasp her shoulder and spin her around.
"Hey, the fuck's the matter with you!?" A man in his late 20's, early 30's with slicked back black hair barked at her. He was dressed in rather expensive-looking powder-blue suit. He was either an eccentric businessman... or somebody worse.
Still, his side was wide open. A single punch to his exposed side and she could disable him long enough to get away. She clenched her fist and lifted her arm up, taking in a deep breath to focus. By the time she exhaled, however, her arm relaxed back to her side as her hand opened back up.
It was too risky. Her arms were too short to deal any effective damage from this range. She would have to take a step in, and with his hand on her shoulder there would be no way that she would be able to do that. And a kick would be too slow and telegraphed. If he even had a modicum of fighting experience than he would be able to catch her leg. Once again, Sakura was just too small and weak to fight back. The man grabbing her wasn't even a particularly tall or large man, and yet he still seemed like a giant to her.
Suddenly memories of the helplessness she felt two years prior came welling up from inside her. She didn't remember the pain or her injuries so much as she remembered the fear and uncertainty over her powerlessness. The color in her face drained completely and she began to shiver uncontrollably.
"Ootori-san, she's just a kid, and you've made your point," Someone behind the man said, but she couldn't quite look past the man grabbing her. "She looks like she's about to piss herself!"
The man grabbing her, presumably Ootori-san looked back for a second before refocusing his eyes on Sakura. "Listen up, bitch! Keep your eyes off your damn phone when walking!" He pushed her back, and in her dazed state, Sakura simply fell onto the ground, her phone clattering onto the floor.

"No!" She reached out to grab her phone, but another foot kicked it and it went scattering off farther away. Sakura stood up, looking around her for the first time. Everyone around her... was so tall. Longer reach, more weight behind their movements... most people just looked at the crowd and simply saw just that. But to Sakura, she saw the potential threats of anyone near her. And most of all, she saw her own weakness.
She tried to follow the path where her phone had traveled, but by some cruel twist of fate, every time she got near it someone else would accidentally kick it further and further away. It clattered down a staircase, no doubt receiving some damage in the process. Sakura chased after it as quickly as she could skipping down the steps at a pace just shy of her tumbling phone.
She managed to catch up to it at the base of the staircase, and let out a sigh of relief. Then she was overcome with a wave of nausea as she crouched down and leaner her back against the wall. Her heart was racing and her body was still trembling from the earlier encounter. She managed to keep everything inside her, but all she could to was tremble against the wall, nearly in tears as a thousand different emotions flooded through her.
It had been two years and she was still so vividly reminded of her trauma every time someone larger than her so much as touched her. And standing at below a hundred and forty-five centimetres, that was pretty much anyone that wasn't a small child. It made Sakura feel weak in every sense of the word.
Her panic attack didn't last forever, though. Once she managed to regain control of herself, she inspected her phone to check the damage. Sure enough, the screen was cracked in a couple of places, but it still seemed to work fine. There was a crack through where it displayed the battery power, though, so knowing when to charge it was going to be a pain.
She stood up and looked at her surroundings once more... to find herself completely alone. There was a set of rails not far from her, so this was a train stop, but the signs of its location seemed strange.
T E R M I N A S... and a bunch of symbols that Sakura didn't recognize. A strange part of the terminal that was completely empty, and she had no idea where it went. Things weren't making sense for the girl. Was she dreaming now? Then she began to hear the unmistakable sound of an incoming train. So this place was still functional, then. The train, some exotic design that Sakura had never seen the likes of before pulled up to the station. She moved a little closer, wondering what kind of strange train was running nowadays. It only pulled a single cart, and its doors opened.
And out came... two strange beings. And they seemed to be in a hurry.
"Close the door, Gracie!" One of them yelled out in a youthful baritone. He was a blue... reptilian creature, vaguely anthropomorphic, with large hands, feet, and head. He had a golden "V" etched onto his forehead. The doors suddenly closed again, and a taller, muscular red lizard creature that walked on two legs suddenly held the door shut as something tried to get out. "Keep it closed for as long as you can, Lan! I'll try and find a weapon, or something!" The blue creature looked around, noticing Sakura for the first time.
"Hey there, sis! You headin' to Terminus? I really wouldn't recommend taking this train, though! It's passengers are kinda in a bad mood right now!" He gave a rather polite bow as if there wasn't anything going on at the moment, before looking around in a panic right now. "Seriously, no swords or axes on the walls, or anything! The human world sucks!" He growled and then turned back to Sakura. "So... don't suppose you happen to carrying around a pair of nunchaku, or at least a sturdy baton? We're kind of being chased by someone!"
The door the red lizard was holding shut nearly forced itself open, but the lizard managed to force it closed by mustering up his strength. "I'm not going to be able to hold this forever, Artie!" He warned in a surprisingly smooth tenor. Then a look of confusion came across his face as he faced the door. "Strange... he's not trying to force open the door an-" Suddenly one of the windows of the train cart shattered and out came... a slender, yellow-furred, clearly crazed-with-anger bipedal fox creature.
"Oh... the broken glass approach... Why didn't I think of that?" The blue lizard muttered out loud before looking back to Sakura. "So... about those weapons? I think I'm gonna need them right now!"

The ridiculousness of the situation had finally caught up to Sakura, and though things were certainly strange she found herself finally able to speak. "I don't understand what you're trying to say? Why would you think that I have a weapon!?"
The blue lizard gave her a curious expression. "Well... honestly, I just figured like it would be convenient!" He answered. "I'm pretty lucky, so normally things work out for me like tha-" Before he could finish his sentence, the fox creature covered the distance between them in an instant and delivered a kick right to the side of the blue lizardman's large head.
"Artie!" The red lizard shouted, recklessly charging at the fox creature. And with precise footwork Sakura could only dream of perfecting, the fox creature spun around to narrowly avoid the red lizard's claw attack. He took a step backward, and the red lizard pressed forward, thinking he was on the offensive.
But Sakura could easily tell that it was a trap. The red lizard creature's balance still hadn't recovered from his reckless charge, and continuing his charge only made him run headfirst into a devastating kick right into its rather large jaw.
"Lan! Hang on, pal!" The blue lizard had gotten up and charged the fox himself. He lowered his head down and... charged in blindly. Both the fox creature and Sakura blinked incredulously as the blue lizard made his charge. And the fox creature simply stepped to the side, avoiding the blow completely, and delivered another kick right into the blue lizard's side. The blue lizard crashed into the red lizard and the pair went tumbling to the floor. The pair slowly stood up, groaning in the pain of their recent ass-whooping. "Huh. This isn't going as well as I expected. You doing okay, buddy?"
"Ugh. Been better, been worse..." his comrade replied. "Round two?"
"Yeah... we'll charge him together!" the pair turned to face their assailant, but Sakura placed her hand on their backs, then slapped the back of their heads.
"Would someone explain what is going on?" Sakura shouted out, so loudly even the fox creature was taken by surprise. "What are you... creatures!? And why are you fighting in the first place!?"
"That's... kind of a long story, you know?" The blue lizard responded. "And if you don't know what we are... explaining it's gonna take a little too long. Especially since we kinda got something going on!" He jerked his thumb towards the fox, waiting surprisingly patiently. "Anyways, I'm Artie, this is my buddy Lan, we're creatures called Digimon, and we're fighting over a minor disagreement!"
"It was more than a minor disagreement!" The fox creature barked back in a rather scratchy voice. "You cut in line, and you ended up stealing the last scone from me!"
"Hey, I had a friend save a spot for me in line, pal!" Artie retorted. "That's fair game! It's not my fault if I had good luck and scored the last one!"
"I wouldn't exactly call this 'good luck'..." Lan muttered out loud. The fox creature crouched into a fighting stance, and the two lizard creatures complied with their own.
"On my count..." Artie whispered to his comrade. "One... and rush em!" He suddenly charged recklessly ahead at the fox creature with Lan following suit in a panic to keep up. And yet the fox creature dove forward, and slammed a paw into each of their stomachs and sent them flying back to where they began. "Okay... that plan didn't work out, either..."
"Any more bright ideas?" Lan asked his blue comrade. "I think I can take another three or four of those hits until you do."
"I just figured we'd keep attacking, and maybe an opening would present itself..." Artie admitted. He turned back to Sakura and asked, "And you're sure yo-"
"No, I don't have a weapon on me!" She retorted. Seriously! What kind of weird fever dream was she having right now!?
"Shame... Well... back to square one! Lan, you try and distract him while I sneak up and attack from behind!"
"Wait!" Sakura suddenly blurted out. "That approach is only going to get yourselves beaten up again!"
"Huh? Why's that?" Artie asked the girl with a skeptical glance.
"Have you been paying attention at all during this fight?" She asked like the pair were idiots. Which they might have been. She pointed towards the blue lizard. "You! Stop lowering your head when you charge the enemy! You're about as fast as him, so keep your eyes trained on your opponent, and attack at the last second! If you're equal in speed then whoever has more information about the other is going to come out the victor!"
"Huh... I guess that makes sense, but..."
"And you!" She directed her finger towards Lan. "You're too slow to catch the enemy, so stop trying to chase him down! All you're doing is overextending and getting counterattacked! You can compensate for your lack of speed by having more patience than your opponent!"
"Really?" The red lizard seemed genuinely surprised by this statement. Did these... seriously not know the first thing about fighting?
"And your stances are too obvious!" She continued her criticism. She stood in front of them, holding her body to the side as she faced towards the fox Digimon for demonstration. "You're clearly telegraphing your intention to recklessly charge! Spread your feet further apart, stand up a little straighter, and limit what your opponent can see! The less information he has about your stance and intentions, the more hesitant he'll be to attack! Either that, or..."
"This lecture is over!" The fox Digimon shouted out in a blind rage. "I wasn't gonna get you involved, but if you're gonna give them advice, then I'm gonna tear you to shreds along with them!" It moved forward as a yellow blur, and appeared in front of Sakura in an instant. Out of pure reflex, Sakura stepped to the side, narrowly avoiding a hand covered in sharp claws. But Sakura Shinryuji's reflexes didn't just end with avoiding the enemy. She spun towards the encroaching creature, lowered her body and leapt forward, driving her palms into his gut.
The force of her strike was only amplified by the fox creature's quick charge, and before Sakura even realized what she had done, she felt the aching impact of the blow travel all the way to her shoulders as her body tensed up and she found herself paralyzed once more. But the enemy she expected a counterattack from only let out a choking sound, too stunned by the young woman's surprise technique.
But two people who weren't stunned or paralyzed were Artie and Lan, who took the opportunity to swing their fists and claws right into the fox's face. He crumpled to the ground after that, while the two threw up their arms in victory.
"How's that!?" Artie shouted out to no one in particular, while Lan let out a primal roar. Then he turned around, tapped Artie on the shoulder and spun around to face the fox creature while it was stirring on the ground. "Shit! He's getting back up! Keep pummeling away, Lan!"
And after several failed attempts, the pair repeated their victory celebration, but with a great deal more exhaustion. Meanwhile, the fox creature simply lay their motionless, his head covered with lumps upon lumps upon lumps. But their brutal beatdown seemed perfectly normal to these creatures. "I gotta hand it to ya, sis! I don't think we could have won without ya!" He grasped her hand, but it was a gentle, comforting hand. Then Lan came up and rested his hand on top of Artie's. If anything, they managed to shake Sakura out of her stupor.
"I... still have any clue what's going o-" A light suddenly shone forth from from their collective grasp, and a strange device appeared in her hand. Blue and red in color, matching the scales of the two creatures standing before her. They had a look of shock and awe to them, until Artie's face birthed a wide grin.
"Y'see, Lan? Told ya I was lucky!"
