Down in Flames [For Glory] [Shade]

Ashen air and the smell of sulfur filled their lungs. The thick black clouds perpetually clouding the sky did little to keep the heat away. Their feet sunk into the dark mud with every step, but came out just as easily, never fully impeding their progress but making it just tedious enough to be tiring. Shame the van couldn't wade through such uneven terrain. In the distance, a storm was brewing, the clouds somehow darkening even more than usual, red colored thunder crackles illuminating the dark horizon every so often...
Five hours ago the trio had been much, much farther away, spending their so rare free time having a rest on the city of Whitewater, each of them drinking a different flavored but equally sweet shake on a coffee store by the beach. Idilic seemed like the perfect way of describing their current situation, really. It was all whisked away however, as a serious of messages began appearing umprompted into Carlos' digivice screen. Numbers. Strange symbols. And a short phrase that kept repeating along with every message. "Where His cradle and coffin become one, the Dark Lord of Sloth must return. What was lacking will be delivered." The messages continued, small pieces of a much larger puzzle slowly unravelling in real time in front of the three. Coordinates. A map. Instructions. This was no spam, no mere prank. This was something else entirely. "...Carlos?" The Guilmon spoke up, for once seeming as concerned and confused as the other two. There was no answer, the man's gaze still fixated on the ever increasing scroll of text and information being not so much sent but practically inscribed into his screen. Finally, the seemingly endless deluge of words and numbers seemed to crawl to a dead stop, the man practically breathing a sigh of relief as he could finally stop to assimilate the information presented to them. Setting his glass aside on the table, he placed the digivice on the center and began inspecting closely every message. It didn't take too long for him to piece some coherence from it after a while, not that it was too hard of a puzzle to crack once he wasn't being bombarded with info anymore. If anything it was surprising how...easy it all felt. Clearly someone or something wanted it to be easy. "I think..." He finally spoke, looking at the two digimon with a grimace, "...that someone really wants the Dark Lord to go visit the Dark Area."
There was a bit of a short, almost awkward silence as the other two fidgeted in their seats, before the impmon finally replied. "This...sounds like something we should listen to, then.""Really?" The man said, a surprised chuckle escaping his otherwise frowning lips. "Nothing about this being "the inane ramblings of a disturbed buffoon" or something? Must be serious, then." Had the imp found some sort of meaning behind all the weird ominous prose? Dio massaged his temple for a moment, before glaring daggers at the man. "Carlos, do me a favor for once and use that brain of yours to think: who else but us ever used the Dark Lord title seriously?"Carlos was silent for a moment, but finally conceded a small nod. He had a point, even if it was a bit of a stretch. Well...it wasn't like they had much else going for today, now was there? "Well...grab your stuff then, we're taking a roadtrip.""Yay! Where to?" The blackguilmon exclaimed, seemingly having forgotten everything remotely serious that had just transpired. Perhaps because of this something resembling a smile seemed to return to both Carlos' and Dio's face as they made their way out of Whitewater and into their van, and would last them all the way up until they finally set foot on the Dark Area three hours later.
As they walked down the dark hills a message would finally pop up into the man's digivice, prompting a quick glance between the partners before Carlos took a look at the message: "Where His cradle and coffin become one, lays the Dark Lord of Sloth, now and forever."
"Ominous." He said after reading the odd writing aloud. Was this their way of knowing they had reached their destination?
If so...what now? He turned to the other two, as if hoping for a more clear answer. It didn't came of course, and it seemed as if they wordlessly reached an agreement on what to do as they all sat on the murky ground to catch their breath. Now they waited, of course. Either for another piece of the puzzle to become known to them, or for their already thinned patience to finally be exhausted.
Had they come all this way for nothing?

Really the only thing out here that would be any lick of a problem for any proper tamer or mon would be the reapers. But they were so far and few inbetween nowadays that it was mostly safe as long as some huge fight didn’t kick off. Even then it would have to be massive, bleeding massive to even gain the attention of some of the scouts. It was rare for them to be on the outskirts too given that most kept their heads low. So as the trio walked along they’d find that it was consistently barren; some wild mons that skirted around them and some orange or green eyes out of the darkness… But ultimately nothing bothered them. Nothing up until they were able to see a bench with a young man sitting there. Well youngish.Rosy cheeks, a soft yet chubby face and a rather average american build. His hair was slightly unkempt but managed at some lengths. He was sitting at a picnic table not too far from where the coordinates they were given by the mysterious connector. There was a heat bag sitting right next to him and he was mid chomp of a burrito when he saw the group. ”Hullo there! You must be Carlos, Dio and Gio! My name’s pete! Care to take a seat? Ozy will be around here in a minute. Had to fix his cloak again. Burs are a pain in the ass.”His voice was something you’d expect to hear from someone that wasn’t so portly; in fact pete looked to be in good health even if he was wearing about three different coats. He must have gotten chills easily given with how he was dressed. Or if he came from a locale that was far hotter than this one. ”Suppose you’re probably wondering why he reached out to you guys. Said something about remembering stuff about his prior rival and told me some numbers to send these really cryptic messages to. Oh and coordinates cause he figured he’d fight Uhm what was it called again…”The man dug around in his pockets and frowned, eventually he’d produce a notepad that had a few scrawlings. Petes writing however was immaculate in comparison to the chickenscratch. ”Right lets see here… ‘The ones who sat at the table of the feast’ or something like that. Uh. I’m not here to fight any of you; I’m just his tamer. Though I don’t know if that’s really true anymore cause my digivice just up and vanished once we got here.”That would be a bit of a problem for pete now wouldn’t it?

At irst glance they didn't seem to notice him, perhaps they were willingly ignoring him on a subconscious level. As if their minds couldn't come to grips with the fact that there was a man having a literal picnic set up on the edge of the Dark Area. They had seen a wide array of wild sights in their time here, but this one stood out like a sore thumb for just how...mundane yet illogical it was.
Worst of all they couldn't simply ignore him now that he had adressed them all by name. This was obviously not a coincidence anymore. The man and imp shared a look of confusion and visible concern, but before they could really reply with anything Gio took the initiative, quickly approaching the table with a smile, eyes locked not so much on this Pete fellow but rather whatever he was eating.
"Hi Pete!" Clearly he didn't seem all too concerned about the man's intentions as he was with getting a treat. The other two were obviously a lot more wary but after Dio loudly facepalmed at the dark lizard's lack of critical thinking, the other two slowly also made their way to the table, somewhat resigned to whatever it could be Pete had in store for them.
The information he shared with them...well it answered some questions but created a plethora of other questions. At least they now knew why and who summoned them there...well somewhat.
"Prior rival?" The man repeated aloud, giving the imp an odd look. "Who did you piss off this time?"
Dio just shrugged.
"It comes with territory I guess. You can't really be the Dark Lord without some jealous peasants trying to steal it from you from time to time." He then turned to the human on the other side of the table, an ever so slightly smug smile on his lips. "No offense."
Carlos sighed, giving an apologetic glance at Pete. It seemed hearing about a rival had fed Dio's ego once more.
"I'd ask if we can just talk things out with him but I'm guessing your digivice banishing's gonna make that difficult."

The young man gave a small wave to the others; their confusion didn’t seem to bother him all too much and he’d give a small laugh at seeing where Gio was staring. He’d produce a burrito from one of the bags and offer it to the blackguilimon. He had bought food for everyone figuring once the fighting was done they could at least hang out or something.
”Oh none taken in the slightest hah. Ozy wouldn’t stop going on and on about it when he hit champion. He’s been working really hard you see; always trying to get up and up and up and well.. Once he heard about whatcha guys did to sloth in the mountains he wanted a piece of Dio here something bad.”
Pete would lean on the bench and motion for the others tao take a seat; it’d probably be a few more minutes before ozy was here anyways so they might as well get comfortable!
”Yeah that’s going to be a bit of a problem he won’t listen and Long story short; I kind of am in a bit of a bind here. See with my digivice I kiiiinda can’t get home real easy but I also really don’t want to. So if you can do me a favor and kick ozy’s face in and maybe even give me a lift I’d really appreciate it. Whitewater or terminus really! In exchange-”
”Foolish Fleshlings and their pathetic partners. It is I Ozymandias; he who has taken the same name as an ancient King of Egypt. Known as a pharoh in your pathetic language.”
Pete’s expression shifted from a full on smile with somewhat cheerful aftertone to an annoyed smile with a slight eyebrow tick. He’d sigh a bit and lean on the table, making a ‘go on’ motion as Ozymandias continued to drone on and on and on. The being eventually making his appearance.
It was… unsurprisingly a Vamdemon-x; one that stood a great deal taller than most of the humans and their partners. He was easily double if not triple the size of an average human male; though instead of blond hair it was stark white and he even had some gold trim instead of the silver! He was definitely a little bit beefier too!
”And that’s Ozy… He’s uh. Well. He’s a lot stronger than before my device broke. He’s been going around loading people in preparation for this.”
”Yes! As only gods should do! I see my rival and his pittance of a brother is here as well! I’ll say this once you filth, take your strongest form and state your terms of combat! It is the least I can do for you answering my Fleshling’s call!”
”Oh uh… I’ve got final destination for after the fight, cause no matter who wins the place is probably gonna be mucked up… Hmm… I thought i Had the deflector in here but I guess not.”
Pete looked somewhat resigned to this and stood up, fiddling around with the card for a moment before pocketing it. He was more worried about the bags of burritos and various stuff he had bought from taco bell...

Other than Gio loud thanks towards Pete and equally loud munching of his newly adquired burrito, the three of them kept quiet as the man explained the situation some more. So it all really started after that ordeal with Sloth. Figures, news travelled fast so it wasn't surprising at all someone found out about that, though this supposed Ozy's reaction to it was...concerning, to say the least.
"I can imagine why. Though I'm sure if he had met the real thing he would have probably dropped any interest in him. Kind of underwhelming for a Demon Lord, really." Dio said with a shrug. Carlos was this close to reminding him about how not only they hadn't technically won that fight, but how the twins had spent most of the actual fight being utterly overpowered by Sloth, but he decided to let Dio have his pride intact for a while longer, instead focusing his gaze back on Pete.
"That's...bad. But you don't seem all that broken up this whole thing if you don't mind me saying. But sure, we can take you somewhere less dead." He replied, giving a look to their bleak and abandoned surroundings, before looking back at Pete, a bit of resigned look in his face. "I don't suppose we can get out of this without fighting?"
Truth be told, something about this whole situation didn't sit well with him. But before he could say anything else or get some sort of answer, Ozy finally made himself known, his tall form towering above everyone else with ease, his grandiose and wordy introduction letting everyone know exactly what kind of mon he was and how he thought about himself. Carlos let out a sigh of both concern and knowing annoyance.
Great, another Dark Lord.
"Wow..." Gio would stare in quiet awe at the tall figure, before letting out a chuckle as soon as he started talking. He got closer to his brother and gave him a playful prod with his elbow. "Heh, you talk just like Dio does!"
"Tch." The imp simply glared at his brother for a moment, as if offended by the comparison. He wasn't this wordy, was he? Regardless his glare soon set back on Ozymandias. He had barely met him for less than a minute, and he already loathed the guy. If not for pretty much everything about his personality, then for how...little he thought about loading others. Doing such in self defense was fine by Dio, even commendable.
But going out of your way to do so purely for power was a quick way to get on his shit list. And he was sure to let him know that immediatelly.
"If you had to load that many people to get like that I can't imagine how pathetically weak you were before." He said, venom practically dripping from each word, as he slowly got up from his seat, beckoning the other two to do the same as he took off his jacket and threw it rather melodramatically to the side. "Apologies, I don't think you can be much of a rival if I never even heard of you, but if it's a fight you crave..."
Carlos got up and extracted his digivice from a pocket of his own jacket. He gave Dio a rather grim look to let him know just how little he wanted this fight, but he knew it was pretty much inevitable. Dio wanted a fight, Ozy wanted a fight and Gio...was mostly happy to be there but clearly was up for a fight as well, though he didn't seem to grasp the possible severity of the situation. Ignorance was bliss, apparently.
Without much else of a word a gentle light wrapped around the two, their bodies growing, the data of their bodies morphing little by little until they looked nothing like their previous shape, the light slowly fading away to reveal their evolved forms, standing a head or two above the Vamdemon were their now quite familiar shapes of a Belphemon and Hadesmon.
Dio gave a look back at Carlos for a moment, before continuing to glare back at Ozy.
"My only condition is that neither party can target any of the humans." A simple, if necessary rule. It wouldn't be the first time his fighting would have been cut short by someone targetting Carlos instead of him.

”See I’d normally agree with you but he’s… Well grandstanding is something he really enjoys and even if he was disappointed nothing’s more yanno… refreshing than crushing something you used to like a lot.”
The somewhat portly man gave a small shrug, munching on one of his own burritos. Hearing dio speak up the man raised his brows just a bit. He didn’t seem broken up about this whole thing, he’d dig around a bit and produce two small chips.
”See the first time this sort of thing happened I was torn up, the second time it happened i was kinda indifferent and now it’s just like. Okay I spose this is my life now. I’ve had three partners and each one of them left me for one reason or another. At least this time this one seems to want me around for a little bit. So I’ll take what i can get? As much as I could tell you otherwise i somehow doubt Ozy is just gonna talk you down or let you walk away.”
Pete leaned on his arm and stared at Ozymandias; shaking his head a little bit before the retort Dio gave him. Ozy snorted a little bit and folded his arms.
”Of course you’d forget about me. And not much weaker than you are now I figure.”
Hearing the only condition was not to target any of the humans the Vamdemon-x rolled their eyes and just shook his hand dismissively at the pair of humans that were off to the side. He wasn’t impressed by the forms they took; even sort of raising his lip in a sneer as he could sense their power. It was paltry compared to what he was capable of.
”And ruin the fun of crushing you? Please.”
The vamedemon-x shifted and clapped his hands together; drawing out a sword that was made of pure darkness. Warping the shadows and area just around him. He’d lower the blade in challenge. Grinning ear to ear as he stared at the belphemon and hadesmon.
”But I accept your condition.”
Log: -Ozy draws out some sword of darkness and readies for the fight!
Passives: ?.?.?: This digimon outright ignores any attempt at imobilizing them; breaking through whatever attempts to dominate his data. He is the master of his movement. Not you.
?.?.?: If something would afflict this digimon with a status effect it's potency is reduced by half.
?.?.?: Just looking at this digimon is enough to unnerve those that fight him. Increasing the cooldown of any move used against him by 1.
Move: ?.?.? This digimon is capable of summoning weapons made of darkness at a whim. They are as strong as you would expect a super mega to be able to create and just about as damaging. Allowing for consistant strokes of light damage. Applies a 'bleed' stack for each strike. Refreshing if it connects. The bleed lasts for two posts and can be refreshed for a maximum duration of five posts.
