Bored out of My Skull [Private, Kazuo]

Sure, it was a Monday, and Mondays meant that Ren and Kazuo were supposed to be in school. However, with their parents out for most of the day working (as was the usual for the parental units), Kazuo had passed Ren a note detailing how he wanted to ditch, and ditch they did. For the entire freaking day.
It wasn't like any important tests were going on the day that Ren was aware of, and if it was a quiz out of nowhere he could just make it up later, as well as make up some flimsy excuse of how he had some ridiculous fever and couldn't really get out of bed (and Kazuo's ―=☆noble☆=― sacrifice of his school time to take care of poor little him, yeah right). However, just as Ren found himself lazing around at home and catching up on lost sleep, he found himself, as he was wont to be, incredibly bored. The numbing lack of anything to do was steadily dampening his mood, and the more he realized it, the more it started to really sting. He lazily reached a hand over to his pack, forsaken at the side of his bed, to ruffle through the contents to pull out a notepad with a pencil in the wiring at the side. He flipped through numerous pages filled with now-senseless conversations until he reached a fresh page, then wrote down in sloppy handwriting, [You wanna go out somewhere? I'm bored out of my skull.] MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS & THQ

Kazuo was planning to ditch school yet again—as was all-too common for his attendance, if he really did hope to get into a decent college or have good grades to show off on a resume—but for today, as with most days, he didn't particularly care to attend. All the lectures were hard enough for him to understand as they were, deafness or no, and just sitting at home and reading the material for whenever there was supposed to be a test was good enough for him. He would have to go back to school sometime in order to meet graduation requirements, but he was hardly pushed to attend even with that held over his head. Whatever the case, Kazuo was something of a failure as a Japanese teenager. Today, this failure was relaxing back at home with his brother. Well, it was more like relaxing on his own while being at home with his brother. He knew his brother was generally a very studious kid when he was at school, so he didn't really know what he was doing when they were home alone. Probably gardening or something... he always said that he didn't know where those plants came from or what neighbors are trespassing, etc. etc., but that said, Ren was not only the worst liar alive but also came up with the flimsiest excuses to cover for himself. Kazuo knew better. Heck, anything with living awareness would know better. So it was likely that he was off taking care of his irises or azaleas or whatever the heck they were supposed to be, Kazuo wasn't a flower dude. So when Ren came around the corner into Kazuo's room with the notebook held up, Kazuo was a little curious what he was actually doing with his time (or not... doing with his time). He thought that the flowers might have been entertaining enough, but then again, he didn't actually know how anyone could derive some absurd value of "fun" from staring at flowers and feeding them all day or something. But here was Ren, showing him the notebook with some sort of intent to go out or play or something. He snatched the notebook and pencil from him and wrote down his response, offering them back once he was finished. [Sure. Where to?]MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS & THQ

[Sure, where to?] came the response, which only served to bring up a huge blank in Ren's mind. "Where to?" was a good question, actually, which he had to pause for a bit to consider before writing anything down.Let's see here... Ren had all the strength of a styrofoam chair, so it wasn't like he could go do something sportsy with his little brother. Kazuo was likely disinterested in Ren's gardening, so it wasn't like he could show him what was up with all those flowers (and besides, that garden wasn't "his" anyway―he had to keep up the excuse of... uh, whatever the last excuse was). The problem was: what should they do?Hmmm... he knew he hadn't gone out all that much, and he did hear at school (when he was there) a few rumors about abandoned places. Most of them were in Greater Shibuya, and he honestly didn't even want to trust his brother to keep him safe from whatever gangsters that might be crawling around at o'dark-thirty (and possibly even at lunchtime). There were one or two places he could think of that he heard that weren't in Gangsterville, but there was just one that he felt was good enough.(Hm, I heard about there being a train that won't go unless you have some sort of something to make it go that nobody has. Wanna check it out?) he wrote and offered. MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS & THQ

Kazuo hung his head at the lame suggestion. Taking the notepad back, he sighed and thought for a few moments of what to write back, then slowly began dragging the pencil across the paper to illustrate his point. (A huge girl that loves gardening and a sucker for urban legends, too? This is my brother? Okay, fine, let's go. I don't even care. At least we're not going to go watch the birdies in the park this time.) It was a one-time thing, and there was no intention of even bird-watching—it just happened because they were bored and there was really nothing else to do at the park that time. Not that that would stop him from holding it over Ren's head at every possible instance. Urban legends just reminded him of the sort of crap people would try to make up about the bathrooms in elementary school, so they just left a bad taste in his mouth. Besides, didn't it take a real moron to actually try to believe them? Whatever, he hoped it was something like forwarding a chain e-mail just to get reactions out of people rather than seriously considering that lightning might strike you and your girlfriend might leave you because you didn't send it to 10 of your most-hated contacts within the hour. Whatever. Kazuo pushed the writing materials back to Ren and stood, stretching himself out, then going to get one of his long sweaters to go out with. "I'm gon'a let you lead," he announced, though he was sure at the time that he was controlling his volume. How the heck do you even do that, he wondered, and how does any deaf person really know if they're acting in-line with their voice? Speaking was frustrating. Maybe he should have just held on to the notebook. MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS & THQ

Ren took back the notepad and looked it over, immediately squinting with a mix of annoyance and disappointment at the text. He quickly scribbled down, (You realize that was your suggestion?) (It wasn't and they both knew it but he had to save face somehow...) (And you realize I'm your older brother and not your older sister, you gross, moldy pancake.) With that, he shoved the notebook and pencil back in his hands, turning to open the door and leave. He had no idea what his little brother had against birds, anyway. He kind of liked watching them, even aside from their kind of annoying calls. (Not that he'd admit it.)
He made his way out of the building and set his path towards the east, where the train station was. He had a good handle over the area after poring over, failing to understand, and learning how to understand what's left and right on a map, and while he certainly would have issues figuring out where he was on a map, he'd still have a rudimentary understanding of how to get from one spot to another on the ridiculously-hard-to-fold piece of hard-to-understand paper.
There was little room to converse on the way since Ren found it much too hard to be able to write while they walked and it'd take far too long to stop every time Ren wanted to make a comment to his brother that he couldn't just make through pointing at whatever he wanted to note. He figured his brother wouldn't be interested in the different colors of birds dotting the sky and the environment, and he was pretty sure he didn't particularly appreciate pigeons for some reason. Maybe he was just attaching their difference in hobbies to his appreciation of the cute little birds, as much as they could afford to learn that cars (or people) weren't actually toilets.
Finally, they arrived at the station, and Ren passed by the different, clearly-in-use trains which were about to leave out, docked, or whatever the case might have been. He noted the heightened security and glanced to his brother, jerking a thumb over his shoulder at the more abandoned terminals in a motion of "should we go?".

It wasn't like Kazuo suddenly gained interest in the train once they finally got to the platform, but he did suddenly brighten up. There was a lot of security that were doing something or another here—Kazuo didn't care what, to be honest—but that was the important thing: this was a place they weren't supposed to be trespassing in. If it was anything to speak of Kazuo's mentality, the very idea that they might be barred from entering was all he needed to want to enter regardless of interference or lawfulness. He gave Ren a nod, then took the initiative to lead him ahead and down to the abandoned-seeming platforms with a playful grin. As they neared the empty platforms, Kazuo began to rub his hands together in excitement. He stopped once they were far enough away from the populous trains filling up, and once he was content with his analysis of the surroundings, he turned to Ren. "If you don't mind, tell me more about the rumors. What thing do we need to get on the train?" he inquired, now a titch too quiet to be comfortably heard over the clamor at the other side of the station. MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS & THQ

Ren honestly couldn't hear him over the din of the train station―he was just a li―ttle too quiet―but he was probably asking about details on the train, right? It's not like he'd be asking for answers to the most recent math assignment here, unless he really was, but Ren decided he was going to roll with the "train query" idea, even though he had no idea about the specifics of his question. He took out the notebook and wrote down, (The train's supposed to have been abandoned since no one knows when and the only way to get on it is some sort of device that nobody can figure out what it is, since all I heard was that "oh, my brother" and "oh, my niece's friend" saw it. To be honest, it seems like the device would be like a cell phone from what I see of the scanner.)He offered it back and looked around the area―and in doing so, noted a certain sheen given off by something hidden under an obelisk nearby. Once his brother took the notebook from him, he went to pick it up and inspect it―a green-and-gray device of some sort, too strange to be a proper cellphone. He considered for a moment trying to turn it in just in case it happened to be that it was someone's lost cellphone. Then he considered the train's mystery panel.Curious, he returned to his brother to show the device to the screen―which the machine replied to by unlocking and opening the doors of the supposedly-abandoned train before them. He took a second to note the train's opening... cautiously entered... "...Oh yeah. I'm good," he announced to the empty train, puffing out his chest and putting his hands on his hips proudly with a grin.MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS & THQ

Kazuo took the notebook from Ren and read over his message. So a cell phone sort of contraption would open the train's doors? This smelled even more fishy than it had before. This was probably part of some ad campaign, not actually a real mystery or anything like that. Yes, if someone found a fake phone that looked exactly like the new brand they were hoping to advertise, then that person could get on the train and get 15% off their next purchase with one of the special tickets inside! Ugh, so annoying. In fact, Ren immediately went to pick up the glinting object that Kazuo had let fall to the back of his mind and went over to the train door to attempt opening it—and it worked. What a weird phone... that definitely wasn't the kind that any sane person would use, in public or otherwise. Why was a company trying to sell such a clunky piece of crap? He blinked, a little unsure of his conjecture. It couldn't be anything but a cell phone. This campaign would be way too expensive for anything else. Okay, you know what, whatever. Kazuo wasn't about his brains, so if he tried to figure it out, he wouldn't get it anyway. Fine. This stupid thing that Ren found was a cell phone, for all he cared. And go buy our new model, it's only half as clunky and useless as this one! Whatever. He stepped on the train after Ren, huffing. "So, now that we're in th' twain..." he grumbled (too) loudly. He assumed it would be very loud in the train since there were so many people crowded around the other platform nearby, but that said, it was so frustrating trying to guess how loud any place was just based on the surrounding people that he didn't always hit the mark. With a smug grin and a puffed chest, he took back the notebook and wrote down, (Well, if you're not going to be looking around, I will ☆) and proudly gave it back to him, taking all of about one stepbefore the train suddenly jerked forward from under them, thrusting Ren onto the floor for want of a better sense of balance. He quickly looked to his brother, obviously and utterly shocked that this thing was starting to move. He thought the train was stationary. He really did. Is this what he gets for trespassing where he doesn't belong? He's sorry, God. He'll do better, he swears. He'll stop cursing and he'll attend class even though it's the most boring thing in the history of ever and he'll even get a girlfriend if that's what God wants. He repents, he repents, he'll go to church in the future... et cetera, et cetera, on and on and on. He managed to slide his way onto a seat where he clung to dear life on one of the bars nearby, praying desperately and waiting for the train to ever stop. MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS & THQ

Okay, you know what Ren? Whatever. Go and try to be a cool kid, but Kazuo knows exactly what an idiot you are anyway. He took the notebook back, using the other hand to slap his forehead. He didn't need to use words to insult his dumb older brother this time. Everyone understands a facepalm, right? And the immediate second later he's on his ass and has no idea what's going on, but he's pretty sure the train just jerked forward and threw him backwards and the notepad went flying to who knows where, he was too busy falling at the speed of can't stop to notice. Kazuo scrambled for a rail or something that could stabilize him, grasping a nearby seat and clinging with all his body against it. He quickly rushed through a million things to shout for—"What the hell's going on? Why'd the train start? Where are we going?"—but the rush of just trying to keep himself from getting thrown out a window or into a seat was too much to let him multitask this. Although the temptation to start swearing up a storm was pretty tempting. MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS & THQ

Many, many harrowing minutes later during which Ren nearly cried on about five separate occasions, the train finally came slowly to a gentle stop. Ren had to take about a fourth of a minute to gingerly let go of his lifeline and stand, falling into a nearby seat from not only the blood rushing to his head but the exhaustion the panic the sudden train's departure caused. After taking a good second or two, he slowly stood and began to make his way around, collecting both the forsaken notebook and pencil but also the strange phone device he had found in the train station. He paused, wrote down (Bad idea.) in the notebook, set it down next to his brother, and stepped off the train, clutching the strange device as he did so. MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS & THQ

Kazuo didn't believe his senses once he felt the train grind to a total halt. The entire past five minutes had been... well, not traumatizing, but certainly difficult, and the idea that something this wild and monstrous could just come to a gentle stop was a little absurd after five minutes cut completely off from sanity. In fact, the instant Ren set down the notebook and began to go outside (in spite of his terrified expression clearly stating his innocence), Kazuo ran up to him and tried to grab his collar with a peeved glare on. "I SWEAR if you knew this was gonna happen and I find out, I'm going to fuckin' do you in," he growled, "and they won't find out until they're all surpwised that you cut class on finals day, cuz you know they ain't looking for you othewwise."Well. On the plus side, he was threatening him at a considerate volume. Probably indicative that Kazuo wasn't actually intending to hurt Ren. Well, probably. He wasn't always the most predictable kid, especially when he was angry. And guesses say that he's probably angry. MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS & THQ

Just as he was about to step off the train, he was spun around and got his collar grabbed, his little brother holding him up by it quite angrily. "I SWEAR if you knew this was gonna happen and I find out, I'm going to fuckin' do you in, and they won't find out until they're all surpwised that you cut class on finals day, cuz you know they ain't looking for you othewwise," he spat (not actually―he was actually pretty good with his t's). Ren held up his hands defensively with a bit of a panicked expression on his face, entirely unsure of what was going on. Oh, he had to explain but his (little brother's) hands were occupied and his little brother was too deaf to be able to listen to his words. But he might want to read them. He looked around for the notebook and noticed it still laying where he set it down. Returning his look to his brother, he pointed over at the notebook in hopes that he'd look over or try to get it for him so he could make excuses for himself and this ridiculous train ride he accidentally got themselves into. If his request ends up denied by his apparently-vengeful brother, he... ehhh, he decides to just―he waves, puts his hand down, smiles very awkwardly... MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS & THQ

Kazuo unenthusiastically let him drop, giving him a scolding glare, then stormed over to where he left the notebook and thrust it at Ren, knowing that his first reaction would be to quickly grab it and keep it from falling. "Yeah, explain yourself or else. And you know what the consequences are. Make it good, punk." Frustrated, he ruffled up his own bangs and began to preen through them in order to distract himself from whomping the life out of his brain-dead brother. But at least while Ren was making up whatever wee excuses he could to avoid having a world of hurt inflicted on him, Kazuo could look around and see what sort of place this train landed them in. This was definitely no advertisement ploy, and he doubted it was anything like a ride for fun: it started up too quickly, it went way too fast, and it could have seriously broken something in one of them if they didn't react quickly enough to the train suddenly rocketing into motion. This sounded seriously ripe for a lawsuit, and Kazuo had every thought in him to actually file for one as soon as he could find the name of the company that had sponsored this ride to hell. The doors politely slid open with a little puff of steam emitting from the base. He didn't care to wonder why the doors were steaming, even if that really could have been another danger to him. Outside the doors, he observed, there were no other trains docked and rather no one at all that he could see. This was interesting. Not a single train in Japan would have only two people there in the transit station unless the station had been closed. That was not the case: the lights were on and everything. "Actually, I'll fogget about it for now. Can you heaw anyone?" Wait, no, he said that wrong. R's aren't supposed to be that forward in the mouth. "Can you hear anyone, I meant."MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS & THQ

As absolutely willing Ren was to start scribbling excuses immediately and either pass his brother's judgement or commit suicide by proxy trying, his brother cut him off with a command to listen in to the surroundings before he got to so much as put his pencil down. He paused, glancing towards the outside of the train, before shaking his head "no" and writing down, (I can only hear you, me (I guess), and the inner workings of the train. No other person in sight, from what I can hear), offering the notebook to his little brother once he was done. He took a pause to look out to the exit of the train, moving to poke his head out of the car and take a better gauge of the surroundings. He took a second to consider what just happened. They went to the rumor-train and found a way to get on, then the train just suddenly started on them and sent them to an abandoned train station a little like the one they just left. Now, they're alone in a building which nobody seems to know what actually lies within.Wait, isn't this just the chance of a lifetime? He quickly went to snatch the notebook from his little brother's hands to quickly scribble down and show him, (Dude, let's explore!)
