Kazuo took the notebook from Ren, grunting in acknowledgement of his writing. He gave him some space to consider what it was that they should do. As much as Kazuo wanted to boast of how entirely independent a person he was, he also recognized that he was at a disadvantage in this environment in which hearing might be the difference between finding a way out and, well, not. Ren suddenly worked himself up out of nowhere and snatched the notebook from Kazuo to scrawl down a quick note. Kazuo accepted it back to read. Okay, so they're in the middle of nowhere, stranded and more than just a little confused, and Ren's first thought is to go exploring? What the heck, sure. No longer feeling it in him to make a fool of himself by trying to talk, he took up the pencil and wrote up a fast—and at least twice as intelligent, he imagined—response, then offering it back to Ren. (If that's what you think's best, dude. Just let me know if there's anything freaky I'm not catching onto, I'll let you know if I see something you don't.) There was something of an understanding they came to over the years about their senses: Ren had the hearing that Kazuo did not, and Ren's sight was a primitive knock-off of the hawk eyes of the deaf Kazuo. Kazuo wasn't much one for detail, but his senses were what they were. No amount of time being completely dumb to delicacy starved him of the powerful development of his sense of sight. He read over his brother's writing and nodded with a grin, clapping both hands together loudly (not like his brother would mind) and walking out of the train with a pep in his step. He had no idea what he was getting into and he was fully aware; quite frankly, though, he didn't quite have it in himself to care. He felt excited by what he saw as some sort of fate-bestowed treat or backstage pass, so to speak―he of all people was able to see what fruit these rumors would end up bearing. That couldn't be just chance, right? He wondered a bit what he did to deserve such drastic divine reward, but regardless of what came up, he just knew that he had a chance to learn what no one else had, and if he wasn't going to take it―well, he couldn't call himself Ren anymore, could he?
