Ever since the elusive Demon Lords began launching attacks across the digital world, more and more Digimon eager to join the good fight visited the Spartan Training Grounds to hone their abilities. It kept Unica and Dinohumon busy, which wasn't exactly a bad thing. Long days, which were typically filled with naps and sun-bathing, were replaced with constant dummy repairs and cooking healing stew made up of the richest berries in the Eastern Timberlands. New faces were always coming and going, and Digimon were constantly digivolving. If it wasn't for the vast amount of time Unica spent at the training grounds, she would've been just ignorant as she'd been when she first came to the digital world. She learned how a single baby Digimon could transform into a wide variety of rookies, and a certain rookie species could evolve into different adults. It was an eye-opening time for her.
It was also informative in the sense that Unica had overheard two new fighters talking about "winged beasts in the Network Plains." Hearing this, the young partner-less tamer perked up and leaned in. They continued to speak vaguely about "Vilemon" and Terminus City's defenses, and how they were concerned that the Demon Lords would somehow manage to take control of the Digital Core. Many of the words they used were still a mystery to unica--she had no idea who the Demon Lords were, she still wasn't totally sure what the Digital Core was, and she had no idea what a Vilemon was. She did, however, know what "winged beasts" meant. Birdie had wings, and she was pretty monstrous. Calling her a beast wouldn't have been too far off.
"Where is Birdie?" Unica asked suddenly, causing both Digimon to turn and stare at the tiny human.
"Hm?" the first hummed.
"Birdie?" the other asked.
Unica flapped her arms like a bird taking flight. "Birdie," she repeated.
"The Vilemon?" the second Digimon asked. His question was answered with a single, determined nod. Again, Unica had no idea what a Vilemon was, but she believed that somehow the two were connected. "The Network Plains. The most recent wave is coming in from the east."
Unica chirped a quick "thank you" before turning and running deeper into the Spartan Training Grounds in search of Dinohumon. It didn't take longer to find him. He was paroling the dueling fields, ensuring that fighters were following the rules and no one was in need of medical assistance. "Dino-Human! Dino-Man!" Unica hollered as she approached. The large Champion level slowed to a stop and glanced down at the tiny human before him.
"Hello there, little one," he began, "What can I do for you?"
"Where's Network Plains?" Unica asked, eliciting a peaked eyebrow from Dinohumon. With all the talk of war and Demon Lords that had monopolized seemingly every and all discussions at the training grounds, Dinohumon was concern for the well-being of his young, frail, partner-less ward.
"Why would you need to know that?" he asked, his voice still calm and steady as he inquired.
"Birdie!" Unica exclaimed.
Dinohumon's body tensed every so slightly and he was forced to exhale a sigh before speaking again. "Do you remember what I said when I first permitted you to stay here?" she asked. Unica thought long and hard about it before solemnly shaking her head. "That Birdie is a murderer, and I cannot allow any friends of hers to stay here. If you insist to ally yourself with her then I must ban you from returning."
Unica's eyes watered as she continued to stare up at her mentor.
"Do you understand?" he asked with finality. Unica nodded slowly but did not move. She pleaded to him with her eyes alone, and Dinohumon sighed again. He had to admit that he'd grown fond of the young girl, and she could be of some help around the training grounds, but there was so much at steak if Unica realigned herself with Birdie. He couldn't risk one of his other "children" from being hurt or killed by that murderous avian. "Now then, if that's all..."
Unica nodded again and Dinohumon continued walking, patting the young tamer's head as he passed.
