Darkness surrounding the buildings around Terminus, once uneasy feelings around the city were replaced by sounds of merriment. Specifically around one museum with one of the biggest displays around the area. Digimon from all over had come to look at the new exhibits from the recently opened museum. One mon concealed by the darkness wasn't there for the sights or even the exhibits. No one digimon named Luna, always one for justice above all, helping digimon in need. Making sure no one did anything bad was now here to steal one of the most prized painting. Holding a pair of binoculars and staring out into the museum as the lights rang out through the darkness, her core heavy with the choice she made she quickly became her Lekismon form before hopping from rooftop to rooftop as silently as she could. Her thoughts rang back to about a week ago when she promised to do this.
It was just a normal day for her, looking for Dust, Hanging out with friends. Everything was the status quo for now. But she heard someone let out a cry of frustration, following the cry led her to a Jijimon. They seemed angry at a flyer for some new museum opening up, when she asked about it he initially dismissed her, but gave her another look as she was in her Lekismon form, seemingly coming to an agreement with himself he asked her to meet him later at his place, suspicious Luna initially didn't want to go but reminding herself of that frustrated cry she elected to go anyway. (Definitely not because of the MPC plot calling for it.)
Meeting him she was greeted warmly, sitting down he decided to tell her what was wrong. "You see, back when I was younger I was a thief, infamous around the digital world. I stole from many, some undeserving. One thing I stole was this, the prized painting owned by the new museum's owner." Getting up he grabbed the painting from another room, Luna had no idea about paintings but she recalled it being on display in the flyer. "If you stole it why is it still on display?" the Jijimon shook his head sighing. "I replaced it with a fake one, however the fake is almost a complete replica. I'm sure once it's put on display for critics the small flaws will be found. The owner doesn't deserve something like that so here's my request. Sneak into the museum, steal the fake painting. Leave this." Handing her a small envelope with a mask on it. "It was my calling card, I'll be nearby with the real one so when they come looking and find me I'll be arrested, the right painting shall be returned."
Luna had to think about this, for all she knew this Jijimon was lying to her, however there was a pained note to his voice, almost dead like he's been living with guilt his whole life, she held the envelope and nodded standing up. "Alright, I'm no thief but I'll do what I can." the Jijimon nodded hitting his staff against the ground. "There's a week before the museum opens, I'll show you the basics. The rest I'm sure you'll be able to improvise." With that her training began, for a full week she practiced till she had the basics down, even some advanced stuff.
Now here she was a week later, standing on top of the roof near the museum she felt a lump in her throat, part of her didn't think she could do something like this. However she knew it'd be for the greater good, psyching herself up and slapping her face it was time to get to work. Looking up at the night sky she felt the moon's presence, the light of the moon making her stronger. "Please, avert your eyes from the crime I shall commit." she muttered to nobody as she hopped over on top of the museum roof. Walking around she pulled on the glass windows littered around the roof, nearly all of them were locked save one near the back.
Opening the window Luna looked down into the building, it was empty as the museum hadn't officially opened yet, bystanders were waiting outside for at least thirty more minutes. Looking around there seemed to be quite a few guards around the area, she wasn't able to scout the place considering it was closed but she figured the painting would be in the main hall, which is the largest hall so probably nearby. Standing at the window she reached back and pulled one ice arrow out, while the moon was shining she could pull one without having to wait so she had to make it count.
Aiming at a fusebox near the back of the building Luna lined up the shot and threw the arrow right above it. Waiting a few moments the ice slowly started melting, dripping water onto the fuse box causing it to spark up. This further destroyed the arrow till it fell and shattered on the ground before. The guards, surprised, looked in that direction and even a few walked over as the lights in the room gave out. Luna hopped down grabbing a light near the before she landed to reduce noise and slipped through the doors nearby to the main room. Standing in the room it seemed to be relatively unguarded, reaching back to a pouch of dust the Jijimon gave her she opened it up before tossing it towards the painting showing her several lasers littered around the area.
Looking around Luna looked for a route to the painting in the middle, the lasers were too close for her to move there as Lekismon but degenerating back into Lunamon left just enough room for her to squeeze past most of them, hopping up to the painting she became Lekismon once again and picked up the painting, looking at it to her it looked exactly like the one Jijimon showed her. She wasn't an art critic though and quickly stashed it under her arm leaving the calling card behind. Now it was time to make some noise. Looking up she saw a large window leading outdoors, perfect. Bending her knees she jumped up grabbing the side of the window and kicking through it. This however did what she wanted and made the lasers go off. Plus the noise of the window shattering alerted everyone nearby.
Luna stood on the roof rushing away back into the cover of darkness hopping roof to roof till she got to the area Jijimon asked her to meet him, sure enough there he was sitting with the alternate painting holding his staff with his legs crossed. Luna hopped down catching his attention. "I have one question before I head off, this painting is seemingly perfect. Why is it so important you'd ask a stranger to return the real one." the Jijimon, hearing the sounds of guards and everyone looking for them simply nodded to himself. "This one, the painter gave his all, his life. His core to making this painting. That fake has none of the soul that went into this. That is far more valuable than a good look alike."
Luna had to accept that answer as the guards closed in, the Jijimon stood up, holding the painting above his head with one arm and staff in the other leaped farther then Luna expected onto the roof. "The Phantom Thief Jai lives once more, catch me if you can." He taunted as Luna slinked off into the darkness going the opposite way, everything went to plan and Luna got away with the fake painting. Outside Terminus Luna took a seat looking at the painting, she wondered if she should keep it but her logic got in the way and with a quick throw and one good solid punch she destroyed the fake painting with one good punch.
About a week later while Luna was once again in Terminus, wandering around the scene of the crime it appeared everything worked out the way Jijimon said. He was caught and the painting was returned to its rightful place. The Jijimon apologized for what he did and didn't mention Luna at all claiming he worked alone, with that it seemed Luna was done with her hopefully one and only job as a thief. "Still he wanted to return what he stole, guess even a thief has honor." With a good day at a museum Luna once again returned to her goal of finding Dust.
