Journeying to the village he grew up with his old friend at his side, Mandrake had a lot on his mind after two seperate events involving the same being seemingly made of shadows. Both times his mother had been mentioned which made him wonder if the mysterious being was telling the truth or lying to manipulate his emotions. Perhaps the Jijimon who raised him would have more answers. What would surprise him is the answers he wasn't expecting.
As Mandrake and Lothar arrived in the village Mandrake grew up in Jijimon seemed to be waiting for them at the entrance to the village. The Jijimon came up to them and excitedly hugged Mandrake as he said "Mandrake, my boy, nice to see you again." When the mega digimon released Mandrake he pulled back and looked at both Mandrake and Lothar before he said "It seems you have digivolved since I last saw you and have also found Lothar in your travels too. I recognize his mental signature anywhere."
Looking at Jijimon, Mandrake said "Jijimon I have come home after dealing with a horrifying being that seems to be made of the very shadows themselves."
"A being of shadows you say?" Jijimon asked bringing a hand up to scratch his chin as he began to get lost in thought. Mandrake and Lothar had remained silent while Jijimon was thinking until he then said "I want both of you to come with me. I have something important to tell Mandrake though it wouldn't hurt you to know this information as well Lothar." With that the mega level digimon turned and began walking. Mandrake and Lothar briefly looked at each other in a puzzled manner before following Jijimon. Curiously they didn't go to the home Mandrake lived in with Jijimon when he was small but a forest near the village instead.
The trio entered the forest and walked for a while before coming to a stop. Then Mandrake asked "I don't get it, Jijimon, why have we come out here?"
Jijimon turned toward Mandrake and Lothar and took a deep breath before he said "You know Mandrake that I took you in when you were a Keemon. What you don't know is that you were in this forest when I found you."
"You found me abandoned in this forest?" Mandrake asked figuring the shadow being's words about his mother were mere lies but Jijimon was not done yet.
"No, Mandrake, I found you after your mother had been destroyed and her data was scattering to the winds but there is more I have to tell you. That is if you are ready." Jijimon said somberly as he waited for Mandrake's response.
Mandrake was quite for a moment. His mother had not only been in this forest but destroyed here as well and Jijimon had found him and taken him in, yet there was more to this tale. "I'm ready, Jijimon, tell me what you need to."
Jijimon nodded and said "Now before I tell you boys everything I want neither of you to interrupt. So please say nothing until I'm done." At Mandrake's and Lothar's nods Jijimon then said "Long before either of you boys were born I was a Piximon that lived in the village. One day I went into the forest to find some medicinal herbs so I could restock my supply. That was when I found the most beautiful digimon I've ever seen. She was a LadyDevimon with eyes as blue as sapphires. She apparently was sent out in the direction of our village by a dark lord that could manipulate the shadows but, by reading her mind, I realized she was just trying to get away from the being."
Mandrake's eyes widened in surprise but he said nothing. There was a LadyDevimon with blue eyes out here? Could she have been his mother? If so it would seem the dark being was telling the truth about that at least. Then Jijimon continued "She and I would meet out in this forest on a regular basis and the two of us eventually fell in love with each other. Then one day she vanished and I assumed the worst but I continued to come to this forest if she showed up to meet me. That day came a couple weeks later and she had digivolved to a Lilithmon with blue eyes and I, as you both know, became Jijimon. She was injured and carrying a small bundle in her arms. When she collapsed on the ground I realized she would not live long with her injuries. Though I was sad to know this she told me we had managed to create a child together. Going over to the bundle I saw it was a Keemon wrapped in a blanket. That Keemon was you Mandrake."
Mandrake and Lothar stood there in shock at the information that Jijimon had given them. Jijimon was believed to be Mandrake's adopted father by the entire village but he was Mandrake's actual father the entire time. Seeing both Mandrake and Lothar in their shocked state Jijimon said "I was going to tell you everything when you digivolved into a rookie, Mandrake, but you were so determined to find Lothar that you'd left the village before I'd gotten the chance to do so."
At this point Mandrake and Lothar seemed to recover from their brief state of shock and Mandrake said "I'm not mad that you didn't reveal to me that you were my father all along but did you conceal your identity as such to protect me from my mother's former master?"
"It wasn't a matter of concealing anyone's identity, Mandrake. I have a feeling this being could of figured out the identity of at least your mother soon enough since she worked for this being." Jijimon said.
"He was able to figure it out after analyzing a sample of my fur while I was Impmon." Mandrake said as a memory of his first encounter with the dark being entered his mind briefly causing him to shudder.
Jijimon reached over and pulled Mandrake into a hug before he said "I'm sorry that creature who was a part of your mother's life is now a part of yours."
"Not just any part. He was the one responsible for her murder." Mandrake muttered as tears started to flow from his blue eyes as he returned the hug from his Jijimon father. Lothar stood quietly nearby as father and son spent some time grieving before returning to Jijimon's home.
The next day, as the two friends readied to leave for points unknown, Jijimon approached Lothar and said "I know I don't have to say this, Lothar, but look after Mandrake."
"Don't worry. We've done a good job looking out for each other so far. I guess we'll see you the next time we're out this way." Lothar said as Mandrake came up alongside him. Then the two friends began walking off. Jijimon watched the duo as if he knew something that no one else did but said nothing as he went back into his home. If either of them wanted to say what he knew, they would but only when they were ready.
