"Aliens?" Honoka repeated, staring blankly at her classmate.
"Fuckin' aliens," He confirmed. Honoka narrowed her eyebrows at the boy and he backpedaled. "Freaking aliens. Sorry."
Honoka shook her head, and continued guiding the mop onto whatever residue that was on the floor along the practice building's hall. Some slimy substance that simultaneously managed to be both sticky and slippery at the same time. Most likely some prank or experiment made by the science department that had gone horribly wrong. Whatever it was, it reeked, and Honoka and her classmate were the ones that had to get it off the floors before homeroom started.
"I know it sounds crazy, but here me out!" He insisted, taking his sixteenth break from cleaning. Honoka thought that she might as well be cleaning by herself at this point. "Something similar happened to my little brother over in the junior high building! He passed out, and when he woke up, the school had blamed him for vandalizing the roof! Except he didn't do it!"
"Well... of course he'd say that, Takeshi-kun..." Honoka replied, shooting her classmate a skeptical glance.
"But that's the thing! He claims he saw some sort of alien creature before passing out! If he were lying, there's no way that he'd come up with such an obvious lie, so it's just gotta be true!"
"Come on, we both know that there's no such thing as aliens!" Honoka rather gently insisted. Digital beings from another dimension? Definitely. But little green men that liked to vandalize facilities full of teenagers? Very unlikely.
"Whatever..." He sighed as he leaned against his mop instead of actually using it. "This sucks though... why did we have to get stuck cleaning this gross-ass hall? I can barely breathe in here!"
"I didn't get stuck with anything," She corrected. "I volunteered. And you're on cleaning duty today regardless, right?"
"Yeah, but I don't have to get up this early in the morning for that!" He complained, finally moving his mop along the floor. And mopping the spots ahead of him. Honoka let out an exasperated sigh.
"Takeshi-kun... I think I can take care of it from here. So you can take off if you want to! I'll cover you if I need to!" Chances are, she'd probably get done faster without him, regardless.
The boy's face lit up with a smile. "You mean it!?" Honoka nodded with a friendly smile. Takeshi moved in for a hug, but Honoka immediately took a step back, wrapping her arms around her mop's handle as if to shield herself from something. The boy got the message, awkwardly stepping back and saying "Thank's Nijika-chan!" before dropping his mop on the floor and taking off.
And that's when Honoka realized that she was truly, finally alone. No other students in the practice building because of the mess. No crazy classmates with conspiracy theories. And no Digimon spirits inside her head, making rude comments about everyone around her and distracting her from class. Their senses were linked to Honoka's, so they had gone dormant because they couldn't stand the smell.
Ever since Lili and Lulu took residence inside her head, she had forgotten what peace and quiet was like. So she took this precious time, mopping up the floor while quietly singing some pop song that had been stuck in her head for the past couple of days. Literally in her head, thanks to her Spirits.
Yep. Definitely all alone.

Except Honoka wasn't alone. At least not for long.
Rebecca was there when the Numemon suddenly invaded the school. Of course, the kids didn't KNOW they were called Numemon, and just saw them as little green slime monsters. Still, Rebecca definitely knew what they were, and she was glad that the third floor where her classes were was almost untouched by them. Still, the first and second floors were covered in Numemon slime and pink sludge, and even a couple classrooms had been vandalized. She got the full effect of the attack.
The young black-haired third-year girl actually brought a mask to school so she wouldn't have to smell any of it, and a lot of other students did the same. Rebecca couldn't imagine how scared these kids must have been during it...
Since she got to school pretty early, she decided to check out what the damage was in the practice building. It was the same story as everywhere else, except there was a pink-haired first year student cleaning the walls alone. Taking a deep breath, Rebecca would walk up to the girl. "Um, excuse me," she asked the girl in a quiet voice, almost a whisper, "do you need some help cleaning up? I heard about what happened..."
She also noticed that this girl was humming along to a song as she cleaned. A song that was performed by White Wolf, AKA Rebecca's idol alter ego. "Also... was that a... White Wolf song you were humming along to?"

Honoka had been so caught up in the bliss of her isolation that she hadn't even bothered to keep a lookout for anyone nearby. So when another girl had approached her... she didn't take it so well.
"Eep!" She let out a very brief yelp of surprise as she jumped back. Unfortunately, her foot landed on the freshly-mopped section of the floor slipping and forcing the girl to fall forward. Instinctively Honoka thrust her mop out ahead of her, driving the mop's head into the wall to keep her from falling onto the floor. She sure as hell wasn't going to fall on her face after what happened the other day.
"That's... um..." It took her a second of recognize the girl because of her mask. But... she was a third-year right? Honoka didn't know her name, but Honoka thought that she had at least knew that much.
"Yeah! That's her name! I've had some... friends... listening to her music the past couple of days, and her songs can be pretty catchy!"
She gave her a nervous look before answering her previous question. "But, you don't need to help me out, senpai! I can handle this on my own! I appreciate the offer, though!"
Admittedly, in her precarious position, her circumstances didn't quite match up with the confidence in her tone.

"AAAH!" Rebecca was startled as well, purely from Honoka jumping back from being surprised herself. She jumped back as well, also having her foot land on a freshly mopped section. While Honoka somewhat saved herself from falling, the third year fell right onto her face badly. "Ow..."
Agumon and Gabumon, Rebecca's twin Digimon, both heard what was happening outside of their V-Pet. They instinctively wanted to ask Rebecca if she was alright, but managed to keep themselves quiet as to not alert their presence to whoever may be around at the time.
"S-Sorry about that..." Rebecca apologized as she picked herself up, making sure her feet weren't on any other wet parts of the floor while doing so. She was definitely going to watch where she was stepping for now. "I'm Story Rebecca, from Class 3-C, in case you were wondering..."
The third year felt a bit cheerful when the other student confirmed that she was humming a White Wolf song, saying that her songs were pretty catchy. Rebecca blushed lightly, which was hidden by her facemask. "I'm a big fan of hers... also, why are you not wearing a facemask? Does the smell not bother you?"
Rebecca did not believe this girl for a second when she claimed that she could handle this mess on her own. In response, Rebecca said nothing, and simply picked up the mop that the other student dropped and started to clean. "Ideally the entire school should be helping to clean this. Do you know what happened?"

Honoka would have helped Rebecca up, but she was still in her own predicament at the moment. While Rebecca managed to carefully get up, Honoka pushed forward with her mop to set herself straight, barely able to remain standing. She introduced herself, and Honoka responded with a smile.
"Nijimura Honoka, a first-year! It's nice to meet you, Senpai!" She answered. "Though I suppose the circumstances could a little bit better, don't you think?"
Honoka admittedly didn't really bother to catch the names of the artists of the songs she liked, but it seemed like Rebecca was quite the fan of the artist White Wolf. She supposed she understood why, though. Lili and Lulu seemed to be fans, and they only heard the one song from an autoplay while studying.
Distracting her spirits with music was the only way she was ever able to study. Lulu couldn't stand it when Honoka sat down for too long, and though Lili occasionally tried to be helpful, Honoka had quickly learned that the only thing bright about her Lillymon spirit was her personality and sunshine abilities.
Rebecca asked about why Honoka wasn't wearing a facemask, and she simply shrugged. "I'm used to dealing with all kinds of strong scents, I guess. It's a little noxious, but it's nothing I can't handle!" Between the flower shop and living in a rather unkempt part of town, Honoka's nose was a little tougher than most. Plus she had come this far, and the girl was too damn stubborn to put one on.
Still, Rebecca had picked up a mop and started helping anyway. Honoka wanted to tell her to cut that shit out right away, but she supposed she shouldn't try and tell her senpai what to do. "Thanks!" She said, trying to keep her pride out of the situation. "I guess if the two of us can keep from slipping and falling, we might be able to get somewhere, shouldn't we?"
Rebecca had asked her what had happened, and to be perfectly honest, Honoka wasn't really sure. "I uh... got kind of caught up in some business yesterday, and ended up being late for school, so... I don't really know what happened. I just assumed it was just a science department prank gone wrong... Though a classmate of mine insists that it was aliens!"

It would have been a very sad sight for anyone who happened to be walking by to see. One first year girl struggling to stay on her feet using the mop, and another third year girl who already lost that battle and was now laying on the ground face first. Probably wouldn't be all too surprising if some pictures of the girls like that surfaced online later that day.
After that awkward situation was sorted, the pink haired girl introduced herself as Nijimura Honoka. There weren't many students at the school with pink hair so she stood out a bit, where Rebecca blended in with her black as night hair. "Hmm, yes, it would be nice if we met in a cleaner place... where I didn't make a fool out of myself." Rebecca's voice was very quiet, almost to the point of whispering.
When asked about the facemask, Honoka said that she was used to strong scents so the air wasn't anything she couldn't handle. Then it began to click in her mind. "Hey, um, you don't... happen to work at that flower store, do you? Hanasaki Rainbow? I like to stop there sometimes and smell the flowers whenever I walk past." Rebecca would never go inside though... hell, she'd run and hide if anyone ever saw her from within the shop, probably marking her as that one weird girl.
Now for the main business: cleaning up this pink gunk. Thankfully, while messy, it could be done by two people before classes start. Honoka said she was late that day so she didn't really know what happened, though her classmate insisted that it was aliens. "No such thing... though it could have been monsters. You know, like those ones that appear on the news. Was it the same classmate that just left the mop here?"

Honoka probably wouldn't have minded even if her picture was taken in her rather precarious position, but thankfully the messy job was working in their favor - most likely, there wouldn't be anyone else around to take any pictures. She managed to win her battle, but for her senpai... well, Honoka just hoped that she had fallen in a cleaned section. Otherwise Honoka wouldn't be the only one whose pink would stand out in a crowd.
"Well, I guess there's plenty of foolishness to go around, so at least you're not alone!" Honoka offered as a consolation. Sadly, optimism wasn't the first-year girl's strong suit. Her work ethic, on the other hand, "So how about we make this a cleaner place, so the next pair of clumsy girls don't go through this, okay?" Rebecca seemed embarrassed, but as someone who's taken more than her share of unintentional tumbles in her life, it was just another fact of life to the aspiring gymnast.
The third-year girl had brought up her family's flower shop, and Honoka raised an impressed eyebrow. The Rainbow was in a rather messy part of Shibuya, so unless her senpai lived in a rough neighborhood like Honoka, then she must have a surprising amount of guts. And Honoka would of recognized her if she stepped inside, too. As jaded as it was, most of their customer-base was comprised of hopeless romantics and adulterous husbands. Still, a fresh face couldn't hurt. "You know, it smells a lot better when you're inside the store!" Honoka stated with a wink. "So feel free to stop on by sometime! The only things that bite are the roses, we promise!"
Having made her sales pitch, Honoka still had a job to do. So she got to work, half-listening to her senpai as she did so. She brought up the possibility of monsters, which caused Honoka to pause her work for a suspicious amount of time. Was this possibly the result of a Digimon? Was this just the skunk equivalent of a Digimon, expelling this disgusting substance to defend itself from... whatever? What the hell exactly did she miss yesterday!?
"It probably wasn't any monsters of the sort!" Honoka insisted rather nervously. "I mean, I get that school can be boring sometimes, but they'd have to be some awfully petty monsters to just vandalize things to this degree, right?" Sadly, Honoka understood just how petty some little alien monsters could be. Still, from what multiple people seemingly more experienced than her had stated, openly talking about Digi-stuff was a no-no.

The senior classmate smiled when hearing Honoka's words. "Yes. Let's try to get this cleaned up before our morning classes start." Rebecca would then continue to mop the mucky floor until it was clean and pristine, all while wondering if this would go faster if Agumon and Gabumon could help out as well...
When Rebecca mentioned that she liked to walk past the Rainbow flower store, Honoka mentioned how it definitely smelled better when you step inside the store. The thought of walking into a new store made Rebecca tense up somewhat. "No no no, I... d-don't do well inside of new stores. That's why it's either my grandmother or my brother who does our shopping, not me..."
While they were working, Rebecca had brought up the idea that monsters were the ones that made a mess of this place. Honoka insisted that the monsters would have to have been pretty petty to make a mess such as this. While Rebecca did know some monsters that were that petty, she just shrugged it off. "Yeah, you're right... no such thing as a petty monster, right?"
"So they made a mess in here as well," A sudden voice called out, making Rebecca let out a small "Eep!" in surprise. If either girl were to turn around, they would see a boy around Honoka's age, with his eyes relaxed and his green hair in a ponytail, a boy Honoka would recognize as Hachi. "I didn't know you were put on cleaning duty, Honoka."

"It's okay! We rarely get many customers, so if you were to come in, then I'm sure with wouldn't be too overwhelming!" Honoka stated with a comforting smile. "Besides, you deserve to treat yourself to a place that actually smells good, don't you agree?"
While the girls continued their cleaning, Honoka couldn't help but let her mind wander. Ever since she first discovered the time disparity between the human and digital world, Honoka used it to her advantage, using it for her studies, gymnastic practice, and even just to nap after a particularly exhausting day. Not to mention flight practice - she was able to fly with Lili well, but the faster, yet volatile Lulu insisted she master aerial maneuvers.
She wondered what kind of potential utility her spirits would have performing everyday activities, though she supposed that a flower lady or skimpy butterfly lady would kind of stand out in just about any activity she tried. She supposed she could use Floramon to shower the flower shop with a sweet scent, or something...
Still, deep in her thoughts, she didn't even hear Hachi speak from behind, however she caught Rebecca's reaction out of the corner of her eye. She gripped her mop and spun it around reflexively, splattering water mixed with whatever the gunk was made out of across the hall. She pointed her mop towards... a familiar face.
"Oh... Hachi-san..." She muttered, easing her hold on her dangerous weapon and lowered her mop back to the floor, trying to hide her obvious overreaction. And after that, was silence. She wasn't really sure how to talk to Hachi, honestly. Honoka pegged him as someone who liked to march to the beat of his own drum. Despite being in the same grade, she wasn't really sure how much they had in common, save for a strange little excursion to a fascinating land. And any conversations regarding that little escapade would likely go above their senpai's head.
But something he said struck a note with Honoka. "Wait, do you know who did this, Hachi-san?"

"Yeah... I suppose you're right..." Rebecca concluded when Honoka stated that there weren't many customers in the store all at once. "I'm not the most social person out there but lately I've been making progress in changing that. Maybe going to a store on my own is just the test I need..."
As they were cleaning, Rebecca couldn't help but notice that Honoka looked kind of zoned out while she was cleaning. Rebecca could definitely relate, as she would usually let her own mind wander off to things like dark fantasies about bad social situations, or her schedule as White Wolf, or even reminiscing about her adventures with Agumon and Gabumon.
I hope they both aren't too bored in the V-Pet.
When Hachi had spoken up, not only did he spook Rebecca, but Honoka as well, as the pink haired girl spun her mop and aimed it right at Hachi, the dirty water just barely splashing on his face. Of course he didn't flinch at all, just simply wiped off the water with his sleeve. "I suggest that you not aim your weapon towards an ally. And no, I do not know who exactly caused all this, but I do have a feeling."
"Hachi...?" Rebecca asked, not adding the -san at the end.
"Ohayou, Rebecca," Hachi responsed, also not adding the -san.
"Ah! O-Ohayou," the girl awkwardly responded as she bowed. "I, um... haven't seen you around recently."
"Likewise. I suppose fate just decided to not have us run into each other until now."

"Definitely!" Honoka agreed with Rebecca. "And I bet it would help if there was someone you knew there, as well, so I guess it's a good thing we met, senpai!" She flashed a smile. "Besides, even if I'm not working there that day, my father and big brother are kind and inviting as well, so you won't have anything to worry about!"
Honoka's shilling for the store was over now that Hachi had arrived. Something told her he was more into bugs and stuff than flowers. For some reason.
"S-sorry about that..." She gave a short apologetic bow to the boy as he wiped the water off his face. He didn't seem too bothered by it thankfully, because why would he? It was only filthy water, after all! "Well, if you have any ideas, would you like to share them with us..." They were at school, so Honoka supposed Zaan-kun would have been more appropriate. But why change now? "...Hachi-san?"
As Honoka put down her dangerous weapon, she looked back and forth towards Rebecca and Hachi. Did they know each other? Well, it really wasn't her business, so she went back to her duties. This floor wasn't going to clean itself, and class was going to start soon!

"...yeah, maybe I'll visit sometime after school today," Rebecca replied with a soft smile, as Honoka was doing a fairly good job at advertising her family's store. "I think I'll be able to get a couple of friends to go with me as well. Maybe even my boyfriend can come with. I don't know if he's into flowers though."
Now Hachi had entered the scene. The young man raised his right arm with his palm facing towards Honoka as the girl apologized for getting the dirty water on his face. "No need for an apology, really. How long have you known Rebecca, may I ask?"
"We just met, Hachi," Rebecca responded before turning back to Honoka. "Our parents were good friends so we spent a bit of our childhoods together. I'm indebted to his family after his father supported us financially after..." She stopped speaking after that.
"You do not need to speak about it if you don't want to," Hachi reassured the third year. "Honoka, may I speak with you privately please?"
If Honoka were to accept the invitation, the two would walk out of Rebecca's range of hearing as she continued to clean. From there, Hachi would pull out his phone and play a video to Honoka:
The video shows the school hallways but they are definitely messy. Multiple figures are seen; two male humans, a blue robotic Digimon, a pink bunny-like Digimon and two red dragon Digimon, one covered with fur and the other with scales. All four of them are seen walking into the bathroom together before the video ends.
"There's more Digidestined at this school than I initially thought, it seems."

Honoka nodded in response to Rebecca's answer. She listened as she went into further detail, and just nodded when she cut herself off. It wasn't really her business after all, and she didn't feel the need to pry into someone's private life, especially someone she had just met.
Hachi had pulled Honoka aside, once again disrupting her from her work. She wasn't sure if she was ever going to get done at this rate. Even so, whatever it was seemed important enough for the boy. He showed her a video of a group of humans and Digimon. She had to do a double-take when she recognized one of the boys on Hachi's screen.
"That boy came to the flower shop the other day..." She commented for no particular reason. "And that Shoutmon was there as well..." Well, he looked around high school age, so it wasn't a surprise that he would be attending here. She only hoped he was able to focus on his studies in a Japanese school. He didn't seem to have much of a grasp on the language yet.
Still, something about the video bothered Honoka. She looked up from his phone and gave Hachi a worried look. "But Hachi-san... Where did you get this video?" The concern on her face began to change as she narrowed her eyebrows towards the boy. "And why was it recording outside the restrooms?" If she recalled, Hachi's Spirit form could make itself invisible. "Hachi-san... you weren't using your spirits to do anything untoward, were you?"
Honoka was most definitely missing the point entirely, and she didn't want to think that Hachi was that egregious of a person, but she wanted to make sure, just in case. Besides, ever since she got her Digivice she had met plenty of other Digitally-aware people, so it wasn't a surprise that a few attended school.

"Oh, so you know them?" Hachi responded when Honoka said she knew the long haired kid with the Shoutmon. "You missed quite an event yesterday. A legion of Numemon can mess up anything," he would say as he swiped to the next video, which was of the Digimon from the previous video fighting the Numemon swarm.
Honoka then started asking questions about where he got the video, and why he had it. She asked if he was doing anything inappropriate with his spirit. "If what you're asking is 'did you want to record people in the restroom', then no. That is where they happened to go after the Numemon all retreated."
Still, it was quite clear that Hachi was pretty much a spy now, able to gather intelligence on many different Digimon related things in the human world. There was probably a reason why he was doing this, but there was no way he'd indulge in that information.
"I know Rebecca over there is a Tamer as well," Hachi said. "Not surprised if you didn't know, she hides it very well. From everyone but me, that is. Having a hard time deciding if I'm gonna tell her about myself or not... well, I have business to attend to. It was nice meeting up again, Honoka."
And with that, Hachi waved goodbye to Rebecca (who waved back) and the boy left. Now the question is what was Honoka going to do with the newly found information that Rebecca was also a Digimon Tamer?

Post by Honoka Nijimura on Oct 15, 2020 10:30:29 GMT
Honoka wasn't sure what to think of the video she saw, only that she disapproved of Hachi's little spying tactics. Sometimes people needed to have their secrets, after all. And even though Hachi always acted confident all the time, he could get himself seriously hurt if he got caught up in the wrong person's business, too. Plus, she really should have tried to get the information on all the other people in the video, as well. The least they could have done was clean up the mess, after all! Why did they leave someone else to do that work!?
But before Honoka could ask the boy any questions, he dropped the bombshell that Rebecca was a tamer, and she nodded. Well, as much of a coincidence as it was, lately it seemed like everyone she met with seemed to be connected to a Digimon in someway. Hell, she wouldn't be surprised if Takeshi-kun ran off to the Digital World or something.
And before she could properly respond, Hachi took off, and Honoka nodded towards the departing spy. "It was good to see you, too. Please be careful, okay?" She offered, figuring that she wouldn't be convincing Hachi of much of anything. It's not like she even knew him that well, regardless.
She turned back to Rebecca, continuing her business. Honoka wasn't sure what to say, really. If Rebecca was simply hiding that fact because she thought Honoka was normal, then she supposed she could just ask Rebecca outright. But if Rebecca simply didn't feel comfortable revealing it regardless then she didn't want to pressure the poor girl.
So she continued mopping in silence for a couple minutes before speaking again. She would have to be subtle about this. "You know, Rebecca-senpai, I'm starting to think that it might have been monsters, after all," She stated. She reached into her blazer's pocket and briefly flashed her D-Tector Digivice before putting it pack in. "For some reason."
She shrugged, and went back to mopping. There. The secret was out.
