Artoragon continued to soar over the rocky landscape, his massive, dragonic form casting a gargantuan shadow over the few remaining Digimon that still resided. The terror on their faces was evident even to the titanic dragon that barely paid any mind to the lesser creatures.
Flying a safe distance away from all the other smaller, weaker Digimon, Artoragon landed in a massive clearing of scorched earth, something he had created for himself the other day, much to the protest of the Digimon that had been living there previously. But those Digimon weren't able to protest anymore.
Except for one, apparently. Just as Artoragon's wings had begun so slack, a bipedal-wolf Digimon leapt from the shadows, jumping to the dragon Digimon's stomach and swiping his sharp claws across his belly. And to Artoragon's surprise, the WereGarurumon's claws had dealt damage. A comparatively small gash appeared on his stomach. It was most likely going to leave a scar.
"You're going to pay for everything you've done, you bastard!" He yelled out as gravity forced the wolf Digimon to descend back to the ground.
But once it healed, it would be one of countless scars across the blue Examon's entire body. And it wasn't going to be the last. Artoragon didn't recognize his attacker. Yet he didn't believe the wolf Digimon to be mistaken, either. Nor did he blame him. But it was a challenge nonetheless.
The scar-ridden dragon gripped his spear, and impaled the WereGarurumon before his feet even touched the ground. There was no fanfare, nor was there regret. Artoragon simply went back to business.
Artie's eyes opened to the starry skies as he sat up in a panic. The Vmon's entire body was shaking, but it was thankfully a cool night. He looked over towards the Guilmon not six feet away from him, sleeping soundly. After it stopped shaking, Artie rubbed his hand over his stomach and let out a sigh of relief. No wounds. No scars anywhere on his body, really. He wasn't in some rocky landscape, either, but the Dragon's Den, his new home not far outside of Rosewood. It was little more than a wooden deck in the middle of the forest, but it was still his home.
Sakura had returned to the human world to attend school, but had promised to come back tomorrow. Except Artie realized that he had forgotten to tell his human partner about the time disparity between the worlds, so for Artie and Lancel, it would most likely be a few days until she got back. And naturally they ran into one of Artie's old buddies. It wasn't Bediver's fault, but meeting him had stirred some old memories of days long past. Days Artie would rather forget. And once the Agumon Hakase had cleared up the last little bits of business, he'd be staying with them from now on. So Artie had to find a way to deal with that, too.
Welp, it was the middle of the night, but Artie was a little too worried to go back to sleep, so there was nothing to do but wait at this point. He was sure there was some kind of harmless trouble he and Lan could get caught up in once the Guilmon woke up.

It was one of those nights that silence enjoyed the least.
The sort that were packed with problems; the sort that were packed to the brim with patrols. The sort that you couldn’t rest of waiver for a moment. That being said? She was glad that she was on the end portion of her patrols. All that's left now was the eastern timberlands. She had already gone through two other areas this week and this would be the third. There was little for her to do other than train, patrol and figure out her various forms.
But in such a peaceful place; the mon wasn’t going to take any chances. There could be danger; there could be problems. But she decided that for the sake of the wildlife that she’d remain around ultimate. Her endpoint was rosewood and she could see that it was far off in the distance.
The shutmon made her way through the forest, hand on her sword and her goggles on. If there was a fight she’d be ready for it; if there was a problem she’d be ready for it. Pushing through the underbrush the shutmon paused as she was greeted with a strange site.
A vmon and a guilmon sleeping on what looked to be a wooden deck. She’d blink a few times and pull out her map; was there supposed to be a housing area set up this far from the city? She’d furrow her brow and mark something down on her map; if this was going to be a structure then she needed to inform the others about it. With the knight’s fortress so close it’d be a problem if they didn’t know about something like this! She figured that once it was a proper house they’d probably be able to see it above the foliage.
Stuffing the map away she’d step forward, one hand resting lazily on her pommel while the other came up for a greetings. Her face split ear to ear in a grin as she figured that these mons were no doubt friendly! And from what she could tell the Vmon looked to be conscious… so greeting time?
”Sorry to intrude on your dwelling; didn’t know it was out here. You guys from rosewood?”

Barging into someone's home in the middle of the night could be seen as a very rude and highly intrusive act... but those weren't the rules for the Dragon's Den. Instead, when the Shutmon approached the pair, Artie gave her a nod, then looked over towards his sleeping companion.
"Hey, Lan, it's time to wake up!" He said, gently reaching over and stirring the Guilmon awake.
"Four hours, nineteen minutes, and sixteen more seconds, please..." He muttered as he attempted to shake off the drowsiness.
"Lan, we've got a visitor!" Artie declared. The Guilmon's eyes opened wide as he sat up and stared at their guest.
"Then we handle this visitor the usual way?"
Artie shook his head. "Nah. You can take care of things here. I'll handle support this time." The two stood up and stretched their limbs as the Vmon took a few steps back and the Guilmon approached their guest rather menacingly. To be safe, Artie reached his hand inside a container, pulling out their greatest weapon they had on them.
Lancel opened his mouth, revealing a row a sharp teeth before shouting out, "Welcome to the Dragon's Den! Even if it's the middle of the night we accept all visitors!" The Guilmon raised his hand and Artie tossed him their greatest weapon... of hospitality. Lancel offered their guest a small carton of chocolate milk while Artie closed the refrigerated container.
"Lan, you forgot one thing!" Artie warned the Guilmon. Lancel gave the Vmon a blank stare before remembering what it was.
"That's right! My name's Lancel, but you can just call me Lan! And this is my buddy Artie! What brings you to this place, stranger?"

Silence didn’t know what to think of what was in front of her; was it a home? Or just a project? Kind of hard to really ascertain from ag lance for the moment. But noting how they were acting the shutmon’s hand slid from her sword. She was in no danger here; in fact these two looked to be kind of cooperative in a sense.
Though at hearing them speak to one another she’d blink slowly and raise a brow; they were acting kind of strange; well some would call it suspicious but up until the greeting the two were doing a good job at being somewhat befuddling in their mixed messages.
”Well thank you. I didn’t really expect to find anyone out here. Not with rosewood being so close at least.”
The shutmon rubbed her chin and stopped a little bit away from the pair; though when offered the carton of milk the shutmon didn’t turn it down. Thanking lancel for it; long patrols did work up quite a thirst after all!
”Nice to meet you Lan, Nice to meet you too Artie.”
The shutmon smiled, took a moment to drink some of the chocolate milk and then would answer the question. Giving her plate armor a soft thump to add to the effective weight she ‘held’. Or rather to confirm the fact that she indeed was doing what she said.
”Well this is surprisingly smack dab in the middle of one of my patrol routes. My name’s silence, I’m part of the knights of the rose. We’re based out of the eastern timberlands so it kinda makes sense we’d do patrols through it yanno?”
The shutmon would snicker a bit and drink the rest of the carton of milk, once again thanking the pair before stowing away the trash in her infinistorage. It was useful and she’d clean it out of the trash segment later!
”But I’ll definitely mark this place on the map so that the patrols don’t bother you guys in the future. Or at least without knowing when you’ll be awake or around!”
Silence chuckled a bit and shifted her weight; she didn’t look tired for someone that had just been on a long patrol. In fact she looked like she could keep going for a good while!

"No one really comes out here very often - good or bad, but home's home, you know?" Artie responded with his usual smile. Having someone to talk to did wonders for making him feel better. Nightmares belonged to his dreams, and bad memories belonged in the past. Besides, this was about as interesting as things got.
"It is very nice to meet you, Silence!" Lancel replied rather loudly, considering he was only a couple of feet away from the Shutmon. Artie chuckled a little at the Guilmon's awkwardness and moved up close to the visitor.
"Sorry, Lan can be kind of weird around people. He's a good guy, but not much of a conversationalist. I've been trying to help him improve on all that, but as you can see..." He gestured over towards the Guilmon, who had stopped paying attention to them to watch a single speck of dust float around his head. He swiped at it a couple of times in attempt to catch it, but the dust naturally was blown away by his attempts and floated to the deck below. "He, uh... kinda lives in his own little world sometimes!
"But I ended up winning this property from some rich guy in Rosewood in a poker game about half a year back, not long after Land and I left the Village. It was my first time playing, too!" He proudly puffed up his chest for a second before breaking out into a short fit of laughter. "I guess I can be pretty lucky sometimes! For example, I got such a fascinating visitor in the middle of the night!" Artie gave Silence a wink.
Meanwhile, Lancel lowered his body to look closely at the floor, inspecting it for the single dust mite. He unintentionally breathed in, however, and violently shook his head back and forth as he felt a tickle in his nose.
Artie couldn't keep a smile off of his face. "Lan, buddy, let's bench the vacuum routine for now, okay?"
Lancel let out a sneeze before nodding to the Vmon with a dejected look. "Okay..."

”I’d say it’s more of a blessing than a curse. Far enough away from rosewood for privacy but I hope you don’t mind a walk if you need anything”
The shutmon chuckled a bit and relaxed her posture; she didn’t seem too bothered by the two of them; in fact it was downright pleasant. She had never really heard of a place called the dragon’s den either; if they were going for some inn pitstop type of deal that’d also be really nice too. Some place to relax or the like. She’d flick her ears towards Lan and that grin of hers spread a little wider. Awkward or not that's kind of adorable; reminded her a little bit of her kids being excitable.
”Likewise Lan.”
She’d tilt her head to one side as the guilmon chased around a thing of dust; definitely someone very young or at least very absent minded. The shutmon crossed her arms and shook her head; that grin never going away.
”If only we all were so lucky; it’s alright. All sorts of mons from all sorts of places. Not the strangest one I’ve run into I’ll tell you that much!”
The shutmon let out a soft laugh and then hearing about the story she couldn’t help but trail that into a snicker. Lucky and the fact that he won it from someone better off also made her a bit amused. Rich folks always took that sort of risk when they thought they were perfectly safe.
”Well that’s quite a stroke of luck on your part then! Especially if it was your first time playing. Spose I should watch out if you want to play a few rounds of it huh?”
She’d chuckle along with Artie and then raised her brows at that last part; a fascinating visitor in the middle of the night? With that wink she’d let out a soft rumble and if allowed would pat the Vmon on the top of the head.
”Well thank you Artie; but past my work I’m nothing special!”
The shutmon shifted her weight and given the safety of the location she felt it reasonable to let herself digivolve down to renamon. The white furred mon stretched a little bit as her ‘weight’ changed and she seemed a little more chipper if not a bit more energetic!
”So do you two have a plan for this little abode?”
Further still if she was allowed the renamon would take a step up on the wooden desk, inspecting it with a curious look on her face. There was a lot of things that she imagined you could do with such a place...

"Nah, going for walks is pretty fun! You get to meet travelers every now and then, and there's nothing wrong with meeting new people! Well, new people that don't try to rob you, but that almost never happens!" Artie joked with a chuckle.
"I've known Lan for as long as I've been alive in this form, and he's good people! And once I teach him to be a little less awkward around other people, he'll be good and sociable!"
Meanwhile, Lancel had gotten rid of the dust mite by snorting fire from his nose, and as trails of smoke emanated from his nostrils, he seemed to notice his tail swishing back and forth. He grabbed onto his long, scaly tail, almost fascinated by his own appendage.
"But you shouldn't worry so much about having to play me at the table!" Artie answered Silence with a sly grin. "I'm just a beginner, after all! What are the odds that I would be lucky two games in a row, after all?" He accepted the head pat and just smiled back at her. "And I'll be the judge of that! Stick around for a bit and I'll see how special you are!" He offered her a hand as de-digivolved and would help her up to the deck if she let him, though he no doubt knew that she didn't need it. But there were rules of hospitality that he had to follow!
"We used to not have plans, but..." For an instant all the joy and bravado he put forth faded away as he let out a sigh, though he mustered it all back up once he spoke again. "We met a new friend not so long ago, and I have a feeling things are gonna be changing around here. It's... not really her fault, but I have a feeling I'm gonna be meeting some more old friends soon..."
