"Whatever it is that you're selling, my husband and I aren't buying any of it!" The cranky old lady's voice shouted out from behind the closed door.
"We're not trying to sell you anything, Mrs... um... Babamon... but your neighbors were just a little concerned for your safety!" Sakura tried to explain. This wasn't exactly her wheelhouse, but Artie insisted that she be the one doing the talking. Something about getting her acquainted with the Digital World. "You haven't come outside in over a week, and they're just a little concerned. Do you think you could at least open the door and talk to us for a little while? Pretty please?"
"No! Go away before I sweep you under the rug like the last salesmon!" She threatened.
"I just said that I'm not a..." Sakura sighed before stepping back fully ready to give up. She turned over to Artie and Lancel. The Vmon gave the girl a supportive thumbs-up while the Guilmon simply nodded. "Do we really have to do this? This old lady seems perfectly fine without anyone needing to check in on her!"
"Something's gotta be up," Artie explained. "Her neighbors even went so far as to put out and pay for someone to check in on her instead of doing it themselves, after all!"
"Maybe because they don't want to deal with her themselves..." Sakura muttered under her breath. She looked back towards Artie and said, "But we can just tell them that she's fine. And she said it herself that she's still got her husband, so it's not like she's lonely or anything!"
Lancel tilted his head to the side before speaking. "But according to our employers, Babamon has been living alone for the past five years..."
"Oh... Then... I guess I could give it another try, then..." Sakura begrudgingly turned around to give it one more try. But clearly, she and her partners weren't cut out for this on her own... WC: 326

"So this is Rosewood, seems like a nice place. Makes me wonder why we never came here before now, Vemmon." Kazumi said as the red head looked around as the pair passed various businesses and digimon going about their day. Some digimon turned curious gazes at the pair but did nothing else.
"M-Maybe it's because I didn't know where we would end up w-when we boarded the Trailmon considering we picked the Trailmon at random. P-Perhaps we should at least plan ahead with some of our adventures, Kazumi." Vemmon replied as they continued on until the saw a human with two digimon trying to convince a Babamon to exit her home. Apparently those efforts weren't going that well as Babamon went back into her home.
"Excuse me but why are you guys bothering that digimon?" Kazumi said politely but, being the blunt instrument she tended to be, she made Vemmon want to facepalm. The little purple digimon at her side sighed wondering how things would play out.

And to make matters worse, a human and her partner Digimon had shown up to question their presence! Sakura was at a loss. Would she even believe their story in the first place? The girl wasn't too sure. Thankfully, Artie and Lan seemed to want to handle things.
"Hey Lan, what do we normally say in things like this?" Artie asked his big red buddy.
"We don't talk to no cops!" Lancel barked, stepping in front of the duo with a furrowed brow.
"Not quite, buddy!" Artie responded with a chuckle. He turned to the pair with a friendly smile on his face. "Don't mind him, he's just a little bit eccentric sometimes! My name's Artie, and this is my buddy Lan, and this gal over here is our partner, Sakura! We've just been hired by her neighbors to check in on her, is all. Poor old lady living by herself, and not coming outside for weeks can be a little disconcerting, you know?"
"But she's not exactly making it easy for us..." Sakura muttered, silently debating just kicking the door down.
"Is there even more of you now? Don't make me call my children on you! They'll destroy hooligans like you in an instant!" WC: 520

One of the dragons with the human seemed to think Vemmon and Kazumi were cops. 'A cop? I have to admit that I've never been mistaken for one of those before.' Vemmon thought as he appeared to be amused by that statement. Then the other dragon, apparently called Artie, explained that the dragon called Lan was eccentric. Then they began explaining the situation regarding Babamon.
"I'm Kazumi and this digimon with me is my partner Vemmon." Kazumi said in response to Artie's introductions. "Maybe we can help though I have to admit, I'm not sure how considering she doesn't want to leave her home."
At the yell of Babamon threatening to call her children on them, Vemmon said "I'm s-sure none of us want to resort to fighting her children. M-Maybe she'll talk to me since I'm a digimon that hasn't been b-bothering her." Sure it was wishful thinking on the soft spoken digimon's part but it was better than his pessimism from before. Walking up to the door he knocked politely and waited for Babamon to answer the door.
"Perhaps we should get out of sight and at least let Vemmon try to reason with her." Kazumi suggested as she backed out of immediate view of the door but could still see everything that was going on.

"I'm not too sure about that... We're supposed to be checking in on her, right? Would hiding from her, only to surprise her later really work out for the best? I don't think that tricking the old lady would be the best way to get her trust..." Artie gave Kazumi a skeptical glance.
"It's literally better than anything we've tried before," Sakura insisted, stepping aside and motioning for the Vemmon to make his move. "Artie, Lan, let's move out of the way and let this... stranger work his magic."
"I like magic... but most of the time I just get tricked. I hope that he doesn't try to trick her..." Lancel pondered out loud, receiving a pat on the side from the Vmon.
"Hey buddy, it's good that you're talking out loud more often, but let's try to keep those random thoughts concerning other people inside your head, okay?" He gave the Guilmon a gentle smile before turning to the red-haired woman. "So... Kazumi, was it? What brings you to this part of town? Other than helping some strangers help an old lady, of course!" "I doubt Vemmon means to trick her. He's not known for being a mean little guy. I think he only wants to help though I'll admit, his suggestion does seem quite odd." Kazumi said as she watched Vemmon's knocks become louder but still remained pretty patient and polite.
It seemed Lancel was a bit odder than a little eccentric but it seemed he meant well enough so Kazumi wasn't to bothered. He wasn't the only oddball she crossed paths with since she met Vemmon but that mad scientist could come off as both creepy and from another planet. That was the vibe she got from Vemmon's body language at the time anyway.
What were she and Vemmon doing there? The only way Kazumi could think of was the direct approach as she said "Vemmon and I came to this place randomly when we came upon you guys. We kind travel around randomly though Vemmon says we should plan our trips sometimes."
Speaking of Vemmon his knocks were the same but his normally soft spoken voice had raised into a soft yell that still didn't sound threatening as he said "M-Ma'am please come out and talk to me. I d-drove off the hooligans at your door." Hopefully Artie, Lan, and Sakura wouldn't take being called hooligans personally but judging by his intimidating appearance despite his harmless sounding soft spoken voice, it seemed he was an interesting oddball himself.

"Oh... so we're hooligans, then...?" Lancel asked, taken aback and a little hurt by Vemmon's comment. His eyes were watery as if the red dino was about to start crying. "So we're the bad guys, then?"
"That's not what he meant, buddy!" Artie consoled his partner, placing his hand on the Guilmon's side while pushing him out of view for Vemmon to make his attempt. "We're only pretending to be hooligans so we can check up on Babamon!"
"Oh, so we're lying to her!" Lancel exclaimed. "If we're tricking old ladies, then that makes us not bad guys, then?"
"Lan, buddy, let's just focus on the task at hand, okay?"
"'Kay!"
Vemmon made his quiet plea, and all of a sudden the Guilmon decided to make his lie even more believable. "You drove us hooligans away this time, Vemmon, but we'll have our revenge!" He yelled out with a growling voice. He gave the rest of the group a dopey grin. Artie restrained himself from bursting out into laughter while Sakura simply gave the Guilmon an incredulous look.
"Lan... we're supposed to have already driven off, remember?"
"Oh! Then in that case... You drove us hooligans away this time, Vemmon, but we'll have our revenge!" He cried out as if he were much further away.
"That's not gonna help..."
But Lancel's addition didn't seem to matter, as the Babamon continued to yell from behind her door.
"You drove them off, did you? Well, what do you want, a plate of cookies? Now I have one annoying Digimon on my front step instead of a bunch! So beat it before I call my forty-seven grandchildren on you!" WC: 870

The guilmon known as Lan's behavior made it hard for Kazumi to hold in her amusement as she covered her face to concealed the force of her giggles which kept them from being heard. Vemmon was having much better luck holding in his amusement though he found Lan just as funny. Tricking old ladies didn't appeal to him but maybe if he was honest with her now this job would be easier.
"I d-don't need a reward for my efforts, ma'am. I w-was just worried when you were being pestered. M-My intention was not to annoy you in the slightest. As f-for your forty seven grandchildren, isn't it a l-little much to send a small army against a youngster that means you no harm or d-disrespect." Vemmon said as he hoped his talent at diplomacy, though not fully blossomed yet, would get Babamon to calm down and maybe even talk to him.
From out of sight, after Kazumi had recovered from her case of the giggles, she watched her partner with amazement before she said loud enough for the others with her to hear "I have to admit the little guy may be a great diplomat one day with more practice. He's sure better at this than I am. Let's hope Babamon will listen to his words."

"Hey, I gotta admit, he's definitely got a way with words," Artie admitted, grinning at Kazumi. But his face turned more serious as he lost his smile. "Unfortunately..."
"If you really didn't mean any harm, you'd get off my property, because right now you're being a pain in my ass!" The Babamon shouted from behind her closed door. "If you want me to stop threatening you, go away and never come back! How hard is it to understand that I just want some peace and quiet?"
"Unfortunately... all the smooth-talking and logic in the world can't break through the attitude of a cranky old lady..." Artie lamented.
"Do we break the door down?" Lancel asked as if it were a perfectly normal activity.
"We can't do that!" Sakura answered. "If she really wants to be left alone so badly, then we should just leave her be. Besides, if she has enough energy to get this angry, then clearly she's feeling fine! There's a reason her neighbors decided to hire someone to check in on her instead of doing it themselves, and somehow I think we've found out why!"
"That... might be for the best..." Artie stated, looking back at the door with uncertainty in his eyes.
But before anyone could leave, even through the door, they could hear a sharp snapping sound, and the sounds of an old lady screaming in pain. "MY BAAAACK!!!" WC: 1100

When Babamon yelled at him Vemmon backed away from her door a bit and scratched his head. She was not an easy digimon to get through to and the little guy looked confused on what to do next. She was a mega digimon and if she became violent he had no chance against her alone, never mind her supposed army of grandchildren. It made him briefly wonder how many kids she had to have that many grandchildren.
"It sounds to me that her neighbors are cowards that just passed the job onto the first person or people handy. If they really cared about her welfare they would have handled it themselves." Kazumi said with a sigh. Then when she heard the suggestion of breaking the door down she said "I agree with not breaking down the door. No matter how nasty she has been she has right to her privacy."
The sound of Babamon's back going out caught Kazumi's attention but before she could move Vemmon forced his way into the cranky old lady's home and scrambled to her side before he said "M-Ma'am? Are y-you okay?" Sure the door wasn't broken and he may have made a big mess out of things but he hoped his general would stay outside in case things got ugly.
"What is he doing? Has he lost his mind?" Kazumi said as she still stood there dumbstruck. Not knowing what to do she stood there hoping things would work out.

Surprisingly, the door wasn't locked, so all anyone had to so was just turn the doorknob. Vemmon would go inside the Babamon's home, only to find a tiny old lady Digimon hunched over and nearly collapsed. "Who said that you could just waltz in here, sonny?" She managed to gasp out rather defiantly in a pained voice. "Get out before I scream for my 94 great-grandchildren come after you!"
At that point, Sakura had left Kazumi behind and also stepped inside. It was her job to look after the Babamon, after all. She didn't want to get in the way of Vemmon and Babamon, so she simply looked around her little home. It was little more than a one-room shack, with shelves nailed into each of the walls, covered in picture frames of various Digimon with smiles on their faces. They looked relatively well-kept like she took the time each day to make sure they were clean.
The floor, however, was a different story. Random bits of trash or food crumbs were scattered all across the floor. There was a rocking chair in the corner of the room with a large assortment of crumbs and food wrappers strewn about across the floor. "This is... Well..." Sakura wasn't sure what to say at the moment, but her partners had stepped in and managed to fill in for her silence.
"Wow! Well, if you're gonna call your family and tell them to destroy us, the least we can do in the meantime is to help clean this place up!" Artie said with a smile. He turned over to Lancel. "Hey Lan, how about you and Vemmon help her have a seat?" He pointed towards the rocking chair. "You know. After you clear the trash off, first!" WC: 1300

Ninety four great grandchildren? Just how big was her family anyway? Judging by the looks of the place it was unlikely her entire family could fit in here in the first place even if it was cleaned. "M-Ma'am, when I heard you cry out I only came in to try and h-help you." Vemmon said seemingly at a loss.
Meanwhile, Kazumi saw the others run in and the goggle wearing red head followed after them. To say the state of Babamon's home was quite a surprise. Artie then suggested that they could help clean the place. Vemmon moved over and took ahold of Babamon's arm waiting for Lan so they could move her to the chair. Kazumi decided to help them by cleaning off the chair before she said "Alright I got the chair clean now move her over hear carefully."
With any luck the feisty old digimon wouldn't make their efforts difficult but who knew what would happen next?
