Sakura hated running.
She understood its purpose and benefits, but the actual sensations she felt from the activity was nothing short of loathsome. And yet, despite all her grievances, it was the only thing she could think to do.
Apparently, her new friends in this new world wanted her to train them for some reason, even going so far as to refer to her as "teach". And for as uncertain as she was about doing so, apparently there was some kind of magic toy thingy that appeared from out of nowhere that meant that she was destined to do so or whatever. She really didn't understand it very well, but it wasn't like Sakura had anything better to do, either. And the two running behind her weren't exactly unpleasant.
But still, she hated running. Running along the plains with Terminus City off in the distance, she realized that she hadn't really pushed her body since... back then, and she was paying the price for it. Her stamina just wasn't what it used to be.
Sakura's hands fell to her knees as she stopped to catch her breath. Dressed in a pair of sneakers, running shorts, and an old, sleeveless, black shirt with the faded image of some winged-serpent, she turned back to her partners casually jogging up to her. A tall red lizard and a shorter blue one.
"So... we done now?" The Guilmon asked without a trace of exhaustion.
"I thought you said that we were going to be training, but all we've been doing is running around the plains," The Vmon complained, a little bit of sweat running down his scales. Something Sakura thought strange considering his reptilian-like appearance.
"That's... umm..." She couldn't get out a sentence without gasping for air. "It was... just a test to... see the extent... of your stamina!" Ironic, considering that compared to the two Digimon, she probably would have failed her own test.
"So... did we pass, teach?"
"And is there a written portion? Because sometimes my hands get all shaky and I accidentally set the pages on fire!"
Sakura spent perhaps a little too much time thinking about the logistics of that particular scenario before shaking it off and answered. "Y-yeah! We can get back... to the real training soon enough! Just... give me a minute!"
She had agreed to help the two become stronger. But... how exactly was she supposed to do that? She had never really... taught anyone... much of anything before.
Well, thankfully there wasn't anyone around to see how much of a jackass she was making of herself.
...right?

The beauty of the plains was a concept that was only able to truly be grasped by few individuals with a profound sense of aesthetics and whatnot. Otherwise, have you ever realized that this place somewhat resembles the background on a personal computer?
That was the final thought that a Jazamon, nameless for now, had before her attention was stolen by a troupe of individuals, humanoid and Digimon alike, running through the hills! It appeared to be akin to a training montage in some of the movies the Jazamon had viewed in the past.
They had been running, and you don't exactly run in the most peaceful part of the world here without reason, right? So the Jazamon...proceeded to run after them! And given her nature as a machine? She had plenty of stamina, even if it took her a bit to catch up.
So, she slowed down once she had felt she had gotten close enough, before trotting over to Sakura, the Veemon, and the Guilmon.
"INQUIRY: WHAT'RE YOU DOING? IS THERE ARSON INVOLVED?"
...Yes.
This was a very loud critter.

Perhaps if she had been thinking less about her hatred of running, Sakura would have noticed a metallic bird-like creature follow them. However, the only thing that alerted Sakura to the Jazamon's presence was, well... her rather loud voice. She nearly shrieked in surprised, the heartbeat she had just gotten to slow down suddenly attempting to escape her chest. Lancel and Artie seemed considerably less surprised, however. "W-wait a second! Who are you!?"
"...Cloudas...? Nah..." She heard the Vmon mutter under his breath before shaking his head. Instead, he gave the Jazamon a friendly smile before waving and speaking up. "Yo! How ya doing?"
Lancel, on the other hand, could only respond in kind. "Response!" The Guilmon yelled back as loud as he could. "We're currently training right now! And I don't think arson is involved, but we're apparently still training, so the night is young!"
"What kind of training involves arson!?" Sakura cried out at Lancel's ridiculous statement.
The Guilmon tilted his head and thought about for a couple of seconds. "I dunno. Arson training?"
Artie chuckled for a nervous second while he watched the human girl's jaw drop from the red dino's answer, and turned back to the Jazamon. "We're just a trio of guys and gal working on getting stronger, is all! I'm Artie, this is my buddy Lan, and the human is our partner, Sakura! But we just call her teach!"

Zoinks.
Fear!
That was the last thing that the Jazamon would ever want to end up inciting in anyone, even if they were a foreign lifeform, a Veemon, or a Guilmon. "RESPONSE: I AM 'SUPER,' THANK YOU FOR YOUR INQUIRY." For how robotic her speech was, she sounded happy to be engaged in conversation!
"FURTHER INQUIRY: IF YOU ARE TRAINING, THEN MAY I, JAVA, JOIN? IT WOULD SERVE AS GREAT CALIBRATIONS!" That technically served as a proper introduction on her end. But only technically. "IT IS AN HONOR TO MEET YOU, MISS SAKURA, ARTIE, LAN. I AM JAVA. NOT JAZAMON, SIMPLY JAVA."
She was quite insistent upon this, and somehow still maintained the impressive amount of...decibels throughout ALL of her sentences. Can this Jazamon even quiet down? Who knows. "WHAT IS NEXT UPON THE TRAINING ITINERARY???"

"W-well... you see... Suddenly having someone join the training could be kind of troublesome, and..." Sakura wasn't sure how to put it lightly. Should she be honest and state that she had absolutely no idea what she was doing in the first place? That she hadn't even thought about martial arts or training or the like ever since her last year of middle school, and that training other-dimensional lizards was difficult enough, let alone a robot bird? Well, that would have been a little too forthcoming. And besides, while she was still sorting out the rest of her words, Artie had already spoken up.
"Of course you can join in, Java!" Artie stated with a grin, turning back to Sakura. "The more the merrier, right, teach?"
"I don't know who's getting married, but I don't mind if Java joins in!" Lancel added.
"Well... then... if everyone is okay with it, I suppose we can... try something completely different!" Considering that she hadn't thought of anything to begin with, the number of things she had to think of remained the same, after all. "Do you have any martial arts experience, Java?"

"...INQUIRY: IS THIS TRAINING FOR MARRIAGE? I DO NOT BELIEVE I AM PREPARED TO BE SHIPPED." Nobody will ever know if Java had processed what Sakura had been saying because Lancel's comment right after Artie gave affirmation towards her joining the training, which in and of itself was a righteous success, because somehow.
The mere mention of marriage made Java assume shipping, whatever that was, was on the table? Which...it probably wasn't. "I REGRET TO INFORM YOU THAT AS I DO NOT HAVE LIMBS OUTSIDE OF MY LEGS, I HAVE NO MARTIAL ARTS EXPERIENCE OUTSIDE OF PECKING THINGS. IT IS TRULY A BRETHREN MOMENT ON MY PART TO JOIN TRAINING WITH NO SUCH THING, SO I APOLOGIZE."
It was at this moment that the Jazamon cursed her being a mere Jazamon.
One that could not evolve and one that probably would not gain any thumbs to do anything with for a long, long time.
"DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS, THOUGH?"

"Shipping?" Lancel asked, his head tilted in confusion. "So is someone getting married on a boat? Or is it one of those mail-order spouses?" His tail swished back and forth in curiosity as he seemed to ponder these new opportunities in life, while Artie simply tried to chuckle away his confused partner's misconceptions. "Oh... but now I want to eat a really big cake... for some reason. Can we train while eating cake, please?"
"What kind of training involves eating cake!?" Sakura replied incredulously. Normally she wouldn't have even responded to the ridiculous request, but she was trying to stall for time in order to get herself out of this rather strange situation.
"I dunno. Delicious training?" Lancel answered. Then he was suddenly hit with a font of inspiration. "Or we could all become bakers instead! That's training, isn't it?"
"Hey, buddy, let's just focus on what teach has to say, okay?" Artie consoled the Guilmon with the rapidly-growing appetite. "Besides, don't you remember what happened the last time you tried to eat a whole wedding cake?"
Lancel gave a begrudging nod. "The fires lasted for seven days. And they still never found the last fragment of The Dwarven Orb."
"That's right. You were in so much stomach pain that you created a whole fantasy adventure in order to escape it. So let's just focus on what teach has to say, alright?"
The spotlight fully placed on Sakura once more, she could only ponder in silence. How exactly was she supposed to teach these three? Unless there was some paleontology website that listed a style of dinosaur kung-fu, she wasn't sure how much help she could offer her scaly friends. And as for her new metallic friend, she had even less of an idea.
"Well... pecking probably isn't the best method to approach enemies..." Sakura simply stated, hoping her musing could potentially spark some new ideas. "But your body is made of metal, correct? So I imagine you would be able to put some serious weight behind each of your blows..." She knelt down closer towards Java, inspecting her wings and legs.
"So... are you able to fly with these wings? If so, you probably wouldn't have to worry too much about defending yourself. You could simply fly up and dive-bomb an enemy the moment they let their guard down. Your own weight could grant you enough power, and gravity itself would give you the speed required to compensate for your lack of range..." The girl seemed to fully nerd out as she erroneously pondered the aerial possibilities of the flightless Jazamon.

So many terms requiring definition! It would have been overwhelming for Java if she weren't a machine. She was pretty sure she had the processing power for this. And if she didn't, she could just go download some more, right?
"TO TRAIN WHILE EATING IS TO SPLIT YOUR FOCUS. IT IS DECIDEDLY NOT POGGERS TO DO SO." There was a pause from the Jazamon. "INQUIRY: WEEK LONG FIRES? DWARVEN ORB?" This was...curious. She wished to learn more.
Sakura talking however brought the Jazamon back to the subject at hand, though, and she jumped a bit! "CORRECT! IT IS MADE OF DIGIZOID. BUT IT IS NOT VERY STRONG AT MY CURRENT LEVEL...I CANNOT FLY, HOWEVER. I CAN ONLY GLIDE AT BEST WITH MY WINGS DUE TO THEIR CURRENT LENGTH AND MY WEIGHT."
A simple correction, but it was enough to get the Jazamon thinking in a tactical sense. "MUCH OF MY COMBAT CAPABILITY COMES FROM MY BEAK AND MY WHITE LIGHTNING ATTACK--SOMETHING ONLY I, JAVA, AM CAPABLE OF AT PRESENT. WHITE LIGHTNING IS ABLE TO TEAR THROUGH NEARLY ANYTHING AT THE ROOKIE STAGE. BUT IT'S SUPER TIRING TO FIRE. THAT'S...REALLY THE ONLY RANGED ABILITY THAT I HAVE." It was worth noting that Java was doing her best to move her wings in order to properly articulate the weight of what she was saying, something that may be difficult to catch thanks to the robotic intonation of her voice, and the overall...loudness that the Jazamon brought to the fray. But regardless, there was one thing that could be valuable in here. More knowledge for the master. What could be done with it?

Lancel tilted his head in confusion. He clearly didn't understand what this poggers thing was, and Sakura didn't quite feel like explaining it, either. But he seemed to move past it easily enough. "Well... even though I don't really get it, I guess you could train to eat and train at the same time! Wouldn't things work out then? You wouldn't have to waste time training anymore!"
"You mean 'eating'."
"Right! You could do more of that!" Lan gave a dopey grin as he turned back towards Java. "Well I don't remember the entire tale because my stomach was hurting a bunch, but the Dwarven Orb fell onto my lap and a group of Grumblemon came to take it back. But I became friends with their king, we hunted down a dragon for some reason, and I think there was some big battle at the end. But I didn't really do much there. Oh, and the king died."
"Cake-induced fever dreams aside, what do you say we continue on with this other conversation!" Artie recommended while patting his red buddy on the back. He turned back to Sakura. "What do you say, teach? Got any ideas?"
Sakura had been silent for the most part, deep in thought analyzing the information Java gave her. Sadly, she wasn't a computer, so it would take a bit of time.
"Well, it seems like you've got things handled with your lightning attack, but it seems kind of unreliable at the same time. Especially if your opponent dodges it and you've wasted all your energy for nothing...
"But you claimed you were too heavy to fly, right? So you've got a decent bulk to you despite your small size!"
"That's sounds like shaming-"
"Shush, buddy..."
"So if you can't fly you must have an excellent sense of balance since you have to run around with just your legs, after all," She looked at Java for a thoughtful moment. "If you have the sense of balance for it, you may want to rely on your kicks..." She wondered if anything she said made sense to the mechabirb. Sakura didn't have too much experience in this regard - in Digimon physiology or as a mechanic.

"AH. I SUPPOSE I SHOULD PAY RESPECTS TO THE FALLEN MONARCH, THEN. FOR IT IS A TRUE TRAGEDY TO LOSE ROYALTY TO SOMETHING SO...MUNDANE AS BATTLE." Did she really just call fights mundane while trying to hijack/drop in on some training? Probably. Java was not the brightest light in the world.
Moving back towards a fighting style of sorts for the robotic entity, Sakura did manage to get the fine points down here. She was ultimately a dodo in nature. Unable to fly and with a mostly unreliable beam, she was restricted to brawn most of the time.
"YES. IT IS ALL FROM METAL. IT IS NOT BEING FAT IF I AM, IN FACT, MADE THIS WAY." Why be made with a defect, though? "...KICKING...THIS SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION WITH FUTURE ROUTINES. WHAT DO YOU PRACTICE KICKS ON, TEACHER? I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE IT A SHOT, AS THE FLESH-BOUND 'MONS LIKE TO SAY."

"When we lost King Grumblepants the mole people lost a great ally that day..." Lancel stated, a hand over his digital heart. Sakura and Artie exchanged looks at each other. She tilted her head and gave him a look that inquired whether the Guilmon was joking or not, and the Vmon just shrugged in response. Sakura just shook her head and moved on, leaving Lancel to mourn his fallen comrade, however imaginary he may have been.
Java had asked for tips in practicing, and she had to pause for a brief moment. She had always just trained in her grandfather's dojo, so she never really thought about where to practice in a foreign world. She supposed she could find all the proper materials here in the Digital World, however. In fact, they could all get constructed on or nearby the Dragon's Den. If they needed the money, she could take Artie and Lan to do a couple of jobs around Rosewood and...
She had gotten off track. She had to think in the moment. "For starters you should just try slowly kicking in the air, like this..." She stated, lifting one leg and slowly throwing out a kick near her head-level. Her stamina may have gone away from her, but she still had her technique and coordination, thankfully. Sakura was more grateful that she was wearing her running shorts and not a pair of jeans, thankfully. "Compared to me, your limbs are much shorter, so you'll have to find a stance that you're comfortable with."
The irony that the pipsqueak human was calling another creature small wasn't lost on her, but she would rather focus on the task at hand. Meanwhile, Artie tried to emulate his teacher, losing his balance and flailing his arms about wildly before somehow managing to stay on his feet. "Whew... Nothin' to it!" Lancel, on the other hand, aggressively launched his leg into the air and fell onto his rear in an instant, looking confused as to what just happened.
"Unfortunately, there isn't too much help I can offer you as far as finding a stance," Sakura admitted. "My body's not made of metal, and I don't have a tail, so I don't have the experience necessary to help you in that regard. Sorry."

"I WOULD DEFINITELY POUR ONE OUT FOR THE MOLE IF I COULD. I AM SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS, MY NEWFOUND FRIENDS." Java would place a hand wing over her metallic chest much like Lancel was doing, except not quite. The robotic critter was, thankfully, paying more attention to Sakura than anything, so when she began her demonstration, the Jazamon would nod.
"I SEE. THAT IS FINE. MINISCULE AS YOUR HELP MAY BE...IT IS HELP. AS SUCH. I AM GRATEFUL TO YOU, TEACH." She would crouch a bit, getting into what could be called a competent stance for someone who had no idea what she was doing and was also a robot, before she would try throwing out a kick with her leg aimed for the air.
This would go on for a few minutes. Before she would switch to the other leg to throw more kicks out. Eventually, Java figured she could throw a kick while getting into her stance, and started to practice that, too!
Sakura had to be proud, right? There was no way the metal bird could predict any of this...

"Pour what out? Apple juice?" Lancel asked while tilting his head curiously. "I wouldn't want to waste apple juice on someone who died... It's just too delicious..."
Artie and Sakura paid the Guilmon no mind as he began licking his lips. Java began to practice kicks, taking a stance that Sakura wasn't entirely too sure of. Then again, she wasn't a metal bird, so she wasn't in any place to judge. She turned to her scaly comrades, and crossed her arms. "And as for you two, how do you guys manage to fight?"
"Roar menacingly!" Lancel answered without hesitation. It seemed like he had already worked this out. "And then run away at the earliest opportunity!"
"And failing that, we bop 'em in the nose enough times that they decide it's not worth attacking us anymore!" Artie finished with a half-hearted grin. "Not the most deadly strategy out there, but it's worked for us so far!"
"Unless the enemy is faster than us!" Lancel added very helpfully. "Or stronger than us! Or if they don't have noses! Those kind of guys are just the worst!"
"Right..." Sakura wasn't sure where to begin. Lancel and Artie proved to be... rather incompetent in the first and only fight she had ever witnessed them have. If she hadn't freaked out and distracted the Renamon by accidentally unleashing an ultimate move on it, then the two dragon buddies would probably be fox food at this point. She had a feeling that these two were gonna be a long term project.
But as she looked over towards Java to check up on the mechanical avian, she noticed quite a bit of progress. She moved over towards the Jazamon and nodded approvingly. "That's good, but try to use your wings to counterbalance your weight. Kicking the air is one thing, but kicking an actual target can throw your balance off."
She stood in front of the short bird Digimon, crouching down a little, though she didn't have to crouch much. The sixteen-year-old was shrimpy has been mistaken for a primary schooler more than once in her life. She held her hands out. "Try kicking into my hands. I'll block whatever you throw at me, so just try and kick and adjust your weight accordingly!"
Was it a good idea for the small human girl to become a metal bird monster's training dummy, probably not, but what's the worst that could happen?

"YES." Apple juice was absolutely what Java had meant but really, any kind of liquid in a general sense might work here. Perhaps...? She had never attempted to do this pouring out thing before. The mechanical bird paused her kicks as Lancel answered the Teach (trademark)'s questions with...that.
"THAT PLAN A SOUNDS LIKE IT DOES NOT ACTUALLY RESULT IN VICTORY. IT ONLY SUGGESTS RETREATING. EVEN THEN, PLAN B DOES NOT LEAD TO TRUE VICTORY, ONLY IRRITATION AND DISSUASION. YOU NEED TO FLEX ON THEM. YOU MUST ASSERT DOMINANCE LIKE A SLEEK, DEADLY BIRD OF PREY."
THEN! Sakura actually had some sort of idea when it came to figuring out what to do with her. "I SEE. THIS IS BECAUSE THE TARGET ACTUALLY HAS DENSITY. WEIGHT. MY LEGS WILL EITHER MOVE THE TARGET, OR BE MOVED. LIKELY THE LATTER. I WEIGH IN AT A RATHER LIGHT WEIGHT CLASS FOR A ROOKIE LEVEL. OF COURSE, I WILL TRY TO PULL AS MUCH OF MY KICKS AS I CAN. FLESH IS MORE...LIABLE TO FALL UNDER THE WEIGHT OF METAL."
With that warning out of the way, Java would turn towards Sakura, lower herself into her stance, and threw a few kicks, aimed at the shrimpy girl's hands. Notably, they were not quite as quick as the ones from before. Likely to make it less liable to harm her.

Java's criticism of Artie and Lancel's combat tactics, while valid, just caused the two of them to shrug just a bit. "What!? We do? But Artie says that 'the most important part of a fight is when it stops'! I didn't know we had to beat them!" Lancel looked over at Artie with fire in his eyes. "Then we should get super strong, and be the strongest Digimon in the world so we can flex our asserting dominance on birds and style on our enemies!"
"That's... it really doesn't matter who's flexing or asserting dominance, you know?" Artie assured the Guilmon, though he seemed a little more than flustered at the moment. "We don't need to have that kind of strength, okay? So long as we're just strong enough to survive and be happy, that's all that matters, okay buddy?"
The Guilmon looked back at the Vmon with a degree of uncertainty, but after a couple of moments the red dino gave the blue dragon a goofy smile and nodded. "Okay! If you said so then it must be true!"
"Ah... I really wouldn't put it that way, but thanks for the vote of confidence, I guess!" The Vmon let out a nervous chuckle followed by a sigh of relief, and the pair turned their attention towards their teach and Java.
Sakura had crouched down to a level low enough to catch the metallic birb's kicks, and held her hands out. Looking at the robotic Digimon's talons, she probably should have covered her hands with something, but all she had planned to do was go for a bit of a run. Running into a robo-bird and teaching her high-kicks wasn't on her agenda today.
Thankfully, Java was going fairly slow, so she could easily catch the bird's kicks with ease. She put forth a fair bit of resistance at first, pushing back Java's kicks with some force, then started to relax her catches, letting Java's kicks force her hand back before letting go.
"That's good! Keep it up!"
And she couldn't help but smile a bit. It had been a while since she had participated in any kind of activity like this, and she had never been in a teacher role before. Every time she even thought about martial arts a knot in her stomach would twist and turn until she couldn't stand it anymore.
But if things were always like this, in such a relaxed atmosphere with such positive comrades, maybe, just maybe... Well, that would have to be thoughts for later. But what was Java getting out of all this?
