Unbearable heat. Unfamiliar surroundings. Uncontrollable situation. These three elements summed up the predicament this young man, called Shohei, found himself in. He'd already travelled for what seemed like miles under the heavy rays of a sweltering sun, across sand dunes and through a vast emptiness, only to discover a small oasis with a single palm tree sprouting from the ground and a perfectly circular watering hole. As the teenage boy finally converged upon this secluded sanctuary, he knelt down to the pool and drank of its crystal clear waters. Once he quenched his thirst, Shohei wearily lowered himself down, resting his back along the trunk of the tree while staying withing the cool confines of the tree's casted shade. "Finally, I can think. Now where in tarnation..." he thought to himself, completely confused by his newfound environment.
Only hours ago, the boy could've sworn he was experiencing a luxury only afforded to cityfolk; an internet cafe. He had journeyed all the way from his small, rural hometown of Enbetsu in Hokkaido to visit his brother, Souma, in Shibuya. While Souma was attending his university classes, Shohei decided it would be a great time to understand the culture of the city. Therefore, he stopped into this cafe, and placed himself right in front of one of their many computers. But that still wouldn't explain how he got to this kind of place. "Now this all feels real, but maybe I'm just dreamin' all this mess" he pondered to himself, as he stared out towards the endless nothingness of the golden-colored dunes. "If that's the case, then I just need to wake myself up! But how would I go about doin' that?".
The young man had no answer for this question, besides attempting to wake up through full-muscle tension. He held his breath and tightened his body until he was red in the face, but exhaustion soon set in and Shohei eventually tipped over onto his side. He laid there, defeated, as he wondered just what in the world all this was supposed to mean.
