Warm Rebooting (Mandrake)

It seemed the quiet of the island would not last long as a presence sensed by Mandrake caused the Wizardmon to go rigid with his sapphire blue eyes wide and wary. He and Lothar turned and saw the massive wave but the MarineDevimon was what had their attention. The MarineDevimon was riding the wave with seemingly no trouble keeping balance. What made Mandrake and Lothar relax was that he was calling out toward Yuko and she seemed to recognize him and called back. Then they learned her partner Jokah was here as well as an IceDevimon but it was likely MarineDevimon and IceDevimon were mercenaries that worked with Yuko and if that was the case it meant Jokah was likely to be able to reach at least the ultimate level, maybe higher.
Though Lothar remained silent when asked if they were friends of Yuko, Mandrake stepped in to handle things as he said "We just met her a short time ago so we're not exactly friends but we mean her no harm."

MarineDevimon narrowed his blood-red eyes, before giving them the same trusting smile he had given Yuko. “That’s good enough for me!” “Could you take us to where Jokah is?” Yuko requested. “BOGUS!” The aquatic devil exclaimed, which seemed to be his way of saying yes.
After a short walk around the island, MarineDevimon lead the group to a small cove surrounded by jagged rocks and palm trees. “DUUUDE! IceDevimon, look what I found!” Another demonic Digimon clad in white spandex and the signature leather belts of the Devimon line approached them, a cowbell hanging from his neck ringing obnoxiously with every step it took. “Wow! I cannot believe. What I’m beholding. It’s Yuko Himura. The one and only.” He spoke in a thick New Yorker accent, slurring half his words and making awkward pauses in-between. “Yeah, it’s me. These Digimon helped me get here. Their names are Mandrake and Lother.” Yuko handled the introductions. “As you can probably tell, this is IceDevimon. Don’t ask why he talks in that weird voice.” “I don’t. Know.” The fallen angel claimed with a vacant look in his fuchsia eyes.
“IceDevimon, stop fooling around! I’m in dire need of your air-cooling services. Those Vilemon are useless!” A rather camp voice berated him. It was none other than Jokermon himself, lying on a beach chair, while a throng of very subservient Vilemon were fanning him with leaf fans and feeding him fresh grapes like he was a Roman emperor. He wore a Hawaiian shirt over his usual jester’s ensemble, and a pair of sunglasses. “Jokah, it’s… it’s me, Yuko.” The human teen hesitantly said. Upon seeing her, the clown-like Digimon pouted and lied on his side. “Don’t bother me. I’m on my sabbatical.” He grumpily said, before gesturing for one of his Vilemon servants to bring a glass of refreshing lemonade with a crazy straw into his mouth.

It seemed that Yuko knew some strange digimon but they seemed non agressive. Which was good considering how the more digimon involved in a fight the uglier things tended to get. Following MarineDevimon and IceDevimon they eventually came upon more than one Vilemon fanning what looked like a clown wearing spandex. After an encounter Mandrake and Lothar had involving ten Vilemon the day Lothar digivolved, the two of them were a bit wary of the little demons. They were able to keep their wariness concealed though. 'So this is Jokah, huh? I don't know why I'm surprised judging by the name alone.' Mandrake thought as the clown like digimon seemed to be ignoring his partner. Now that Mandrake was close he could telepathically sense his presence so what Yuko said about his ability to keep others out of his mind seemed to be true.
"There is no need to be so rude. Yuko has been looking for you." Mandrake said politely while calling the digimon out on his rudeness.

Mandrake was the first to call out Jokermon on his rude behavior. Yuko had come a long way and almost lost her life to a volcanic eruption while searching for him, so him not even looking her in the eye was a tad unfair. Yet, the girl couldn’t shake off the feeling that she kinda deserved this sort of treatment.
“DUDE! Yuko’s back! You should hug each other and stuff!” MarineDevimon tried to patch things up between them to no avail. “Don’t be a stiffy stifferson, Jokah-sama. ‘Cause no-one likes. A stiffy stifferson.” IceDevimon added, ringing his own cowbell.
Yuko clenched her hands into fists that shook, holding back her tears as she stepped in front of Jokermon’s chair. “Look, I’m sorry, okay? I’m sorry! I shouldn’t have given up… I shouldn’t have cut ties with you the way I did. It’s just… Things changed, and I didn’t know how to handle it. Junpei and Mika-kun moved to different towns. We said we would keep in touch, but we never did. While I had them, I felt like my life had some kind of meaning outside of being a Tamer. I don’t know what to do, Jokah… I know you don’t need me, but… I need you.” The girl poured her heart out, panting afterwards and staring at her partner with begging eyes.
Silence fell, the Vilemon and the two Devimon variants looking at both sides of the conflict worriedly. Jokermon slowly removed his black shades, finally looking back at his Tamer. And then his red lips curved into a wide smile. “Apology accepted! I, the Demon King of the Digital World, hereby declare that my own sabbatical is over!” “Really?” The delinquent’s pierced face visibly brightened, as she was overjoyed by the news. “Let us celebrate this sensational reunion! Who wants refreshments? Make it quick!” The demonic clown clapped his hands once, prompting the Vilemon to start serving tropical umbrella drinks to anyone who wasn’t a dirty Vilemon, including Mandrake and Lother.

Lothar's ears folded back as he was beginning to find the ringing of IceDevimon's cowbell an annoyance yet he said nothing but, judging by how his tail was twitching, anyone who knew anything about felines in general would know how annoyed Lothar was despite him not saying anything yet.
Mandrake noticed Lothar's annoyance but focused on Yuko as she apologized to Jokah. It seemed their reason for separating was more complex than the Wizardmon initially thought. Apparently the clown like digimon forgave his partner and had the Vilemon pass some drinks around Mandrake and Lothar accepting the drinks politely. "Looks like things have worked out for you, Yuko, despite the nearly being crushed by raining rocks. Even with my telekinesis I doubt I would of been able to stop enough of the rocks to keep you from being crushed. It's a good thing that Lothar is such a good runner as well as being physically strong."

“These drinks are TOTALLY AWESOME!” MarineDevimon loudly proclaimed, holding the glass with one of his giant tentacles. “They’re a bit warm, though.” He added. “Hold your tongue, big creature. Allow me to cool it for you.” IceDevimon outstretched his long arm, using his icy powers to freeze the drink, turning it into a smoothie. “I do enjoy. A cool drink. Very refreshing. Wow!”
“Am I legally allowed to drink this?” Yuko asked, taking a small sip and confirming that there was some alcohol mixed in with her beverage. “I’m a diabolical supervillain, darling. Do you really think I care about drinking laws? Bahahahaha!” Jokermon laughed jovially, slapping his own knee like he had just said the most hilarious joke.
His smile turned into a worried frown when Mandrake spoke. The fiendish jester dropped his glass on the ground and immediately grabbed the shorter Digimon by the shoulders. “What do you mean raining rocks? Was Yuko-chan’s life in danger? Open your stitched up mouth! Speak, man!” He shook the poor warlock, his tone strongly resembling a concerned parent.

A drink that was a little warm didn't bother Mandrake or Lothar. Though it seemed Yuko wasn't legally old enough to drink even by Japan's standards. Super villain? Digimon and their human partners didn't always share the same alignment but Jokah could have been kidding about saying that, who knows? To be fair neither he or Lothar knew this group all that well so they couldn't really judge.
What surprised both Mandrake and Lothar was when Jokah grabbed Mandrake by the shoulders and began shaking him causing the illusionist to drop both his drink and staff from the force of the shaking. The shaking was brief as Lothar chose that moment to step in and pull Jokah free by his shoulders. "All right that's enough." Lothar said as Mandrake bent over to pick up his hat, which had fell off while he was still being shaken by Jokah, and brushed the sand off it before placing it back on his head.
Then he used his telekinesis to lift his staff and grabbed it from mid air before he said "A volcano on the mainland erupted and caused rocks to rain down but as you can see she is unharmed. Lothar, you can let him go now." Lothar wordlessly released his grip on Jokah's shoulders but his brown eyes kept a wary eye on Jokah.

Jokermon let out a girly scream as he was grabbed by Lother’s strong, beefy hand. “Eyaah! Take your dirty paws off me, you brute!” The clown showed his claws, in a manner of speaking, but since the Leomon had actual claws he could hurt him with, he knew better than to try and escape.
Luckily, Mandrake explained everything, and the situation was resolved without anyone being hurt. Jokah rubbed his shoulder after the feline warrior had released his iron grip on him. “All’s well that ends well then! You should have just said so in the first place~” The flamboyant pierrot cheerfully said, regaining his silly grin. He suddenly pulled a new drink for Mandrake out of his jester’s hat, which he offered to his fellow Demon Man Digimon. He wasn’t the only skilled magic user around, it would seem. “There you go, my vertically challenged friend. We can now let bygones be bygones.”
The self-proclaimed Demon King returned to his seat, putting his sunglasses back on and signaling one of his Vilemon servants to prepare a new drink for him. “You two have my gratitude for saving the human I ca- caaa- caaaar-” He stuck his tongue out, having some apparent difficulty getting the words out. “... care-fully selected to be my vassal! You’re welcome to stay at my island resort for as long as you like.” “I think they probably have their own things they need to do.” Yuko pointed out, finishing her drink. “And for that matter, I’m pretty sure you don’t actually own this island, so we should get going too, before we get in trouble.” She added.

Mandrake had to admit that the Jokermon's surprisingly girly scream was amusing though he hid his amusement well. The funniest part was that Lothar had barely touched Jokah when he separated him from Mandrake. What wasn't funny was when Jokah had called Lothar a brute. Though Lothar merely rolled his eyes in annoyance, Mandrake said "I assure you, Lothar is far more than a mere dumb brute. His gift for forming strategies has worked to our advantage more than once."
When Jokah had mentioned Mandrake should have said something in the first place in regards to the situation involving the previous mentioning of raining rocks, Lothar growled softly as he said "It's kind of hard to explain oneself when they are being violently shaken."
Ignoring the tone Lothar had taken, Mandrake then said "Well, as you know, when it comes to digimon height is hardly an indication of their power." The self proclaimed Demon King seemed to actually care about his tamer even though he had a hard time admitting it. He and Lothar had an idea how hard it was to admit such feelings.
When Yuko said that Mandrake and Lothar likely had things they needed to do, Mandrake said "Lothar and I were just passing by with no particular location planned so don't worry about that." Then when Yuko mentioned potential trouble, Mandrake asked "If the trouble your talking about is a digimon I would of likely telepathically sensed it's presence or will soon enough or is there something else you're worried about?"

“You’re a strategist, huh, Lothar?” Yuko asked the soft-spoken Leomon, playfully nudging his sides. “We probably could have used your strategic skills earlier, when we were searching for Jokah.” “YEAH!” MarineDevimon loudly agreed. “Always do the thing you’re good at! Don’t sell yourself short, bro! Me? I’m like a drifter flowing with the river of my soul, man!” He tried to make a surfer hand gesture with two of his nasty claws.
Mandrake asked if they were worried about being attacked by wild Digimon, to which the Clown Prince scoffed. “Bah! Let them come, I say! Now that the team is complete again, our power is unstoppable!” He didn’t seem to exaggerate this time, despite being intimidated by Lothar earlier. Perhaps there was more to this clown than met the eye.
“Well, if we’re gonna annoy the locals by being here uninvited, we might as well enjoy this beach…” Yuko said, leaving her backpack on the ground and proceeding to slowly take her shirt off. “Yuko! Decency!” Jokermon covered his eyes with a flustered expression. No doubt to everyone’s surprise, she was actually wearing a black, modest by Japanese standards bikini underneath her clothes. “BODYLICIOUS!” MarineDevimon expressed his approval by shouting. “No beach party is complete without babes in bikinis! But I respect Yuko, so I won’t objectify her.” He added in a lower voice. “When you travel to the Digital World, always bring a swimsuit. That’s one of the first things I learned.” The girl explained with a cheeky smile, before making her way to the shore and dipping herself in the water. “Oooh, the water here is pretty nice! C’mon, guys, who wants to join?” She called out to the others.

"Being a strategist is just one of my hidden talents." Lothar said. One thing Mandrake knew since he met Lothar is one couldn't always judge a book by it's cover. It was also as if Yuko's nudging of his ribs didn't bother him. Mandrake knew it wasn't because he didn't feel it but it seem Lothar was now more in the mood to talk as well.
"I wouldn't say you're unstoppable because no matter what level you reach, there will always be someone better. To think otherwise is needlessly arrogant." Mandrake said as previous memories came to mind.
Like everyone else Mandrake and Lothar were surprised when Yuko began removing her shirt. They were aware of most human's having a nudity taboo which was why such an act was a shock. It seemed that Yuko had been wearing a modest bikini underneath her clothes. "Yes, I suppose always having swim wear on hand would be useful for humans." Mandrake said as she made her way to the water. After swimming to the island Mandrake wasn't in the mood for another swim. Walking over to a tree on the beach Lothar was sitting under, Mandrake sat down next to the Leomon. The two of them kept an eye on Yuko while she was in the water.

The two wandering Digimon preferred to relax under the shade, and Jokah obviously didn’t intend to move from his seat, which got the young delinquent all pouty. “Aww… C’mon, guyyys! Doesn’t anyone wanna join?” “I DO! CANNONBAAAAALL!!!” MarineDevimon yelled at the top of his lungs, jumping sky high with a big dumb smile on his ugly mug. “Nononononono!” Jokermon frantically waved his hands, but it was too late. The sea devil crashed into the ocean. Given his kraken-esque size, the impact sent a hefty amount of water splashing all over the beach and on the demonic clown himself, soaking him wet. “Oh, bother… Not again.” The Demon Man Digimon lamented.
Yuko, meanwhile, was laughing with all of her heart. “Hahaha! Dude, that was great!” She said, pulling her wet hair behind her heavily-pierced ear. “DUUUDE!” MarineDevimon exclaimed, wiggling his tentacles happily. “DUUUDE!” The girl cupped her hands around her mouth and yelled back at him. “DUUUUUDE!” “DUUUUUDE!” “DUUUUUUUUUUDE!!” Truly, what a riveting exchange.
Clicking his fingers, Jokah willed a magical, floating hair dryer to appear out of nowhere, dealing with the whole dampness issue. He then turned to Mandrake and Lothar. “A Demon King like me can use some entertainment from his royal subjects. So, how long have you two known each other?” He asked them.

Though Mandrake and Lothar didn't want to get into the water and, neither did most of the others, that wasn't a problem seeing as MarineDevimon not only joined Yuko in the water but did so with an enthusiastic cannonball that created a large wave that soaked Jokah. It seemed as if the tree they were under was just far enough away to avoid the worst of the tidal wave so they weren't very wet.
After listening to Yuko's and MarineDevimon's conversation involving an exchange of only one word, Mandrake turned his gaze to Jokah as he dried himself with a hair dryer that came seemingly out of nowhere. It seemed his magic was very different than Mandrake's. When asked how long they have known each other, Mandrake said "We've known each other since we were merely children. In fact I met Lothar when some bullies were trying to beat me up."
"Those bullies scattered when I knocked out their ringleader." Lothar added.

“Oooh, childhood friends! How lovely~” Jokermon cooed, clasping his hands together and batting his one visible eye. His expression then got somewhat more serious. “I had a friend like that too once, a very long time ago…” He sighed, putting his sunglasses back on and looking up at the sky.
According to Mandrake, Lothar had saved him from a group of bullies and that’s how they had met. The colorful jester nodded in understanding. “I see, I see. There is nothing worse than a bully.” He said, before grabbing his hair dryer and angrily throwing it at one of the Vilemon, hitting it on the head. “Fan faster, you nincompoop! What am I paying you for!” “Y-yes, Jokah-sama!” The Vilemon fearfully moved its leaf fan faster. “He’s not actually paying us…” It whispered to Mandrake and his friend. “What was that?” Jokah raised a stern eyebrow. “N-nothing!” The Vilemon cried out.
Yuko soon got out of the water and walked up to them. “Well, that was fun. Oh, a hair dryer. How handy!” She noticed the discarded device and picked it off the ground, using it to dry her wet hair. “So, what are you guys gonna do next?” She asked Mandrake while doing that.

There were worse things then bullies as both Mandrake and Lothar now knew but at that time they were only children. "I suppose it depends on your definition of a bully. What we've been through in recent months has gone well past bullying by now." Mandrake said with an uncomfortable shiver as Lothar placed a hand on his shoulder in an effort to comfort him. "So what happened with you friend?" Mandrake asked when he was once again calm.
When Jokah demanded the Vilemon fanned faster and the Jokermon managed to intimidate them, Lothar said "From what I see you're no better than a bully towards those Vilemon. Maybe you should treat them better." That was normal for Lothar to stand up against those that were bullying others.
Before Lothar could say anything else, Yuko came out of the water and picked up the discarded hair dryer. Magic was probably how it ran without being plugged in. 'Magic sure is strange at times.' Lothar said. Though Mandrake preferred using illusions to deceive opponents, he had offensive forms of magic to make up for his lack of close range abilities in until his ultimate form. When Yuko asked what Mandrake and Lothar planned to do next, Mandrake said "I'm not sure. We usually travel around randomly. As you humans would say it we go wherever the wind takes us."
