"Hm... sure. We'll be doing Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for your practice."
Iko gave a nod - both to her, and then to the Shutmon who had just jumped down from the stands. "Its easy to lose track of time for something like this. Honestly, when I was practicing with K, we had a bad habit of going quite a few more rounds than we should have, at times. Maybe a clock with an alarm would keep us more in-line for that sort of thing?" The wolf was at least willing to work with Silence - and as Coal gave that almost defeated sigh, the Ankomon would step forward, and put a gentle hand on top of Coal's head, ruffling the top of her fur.
"You're on the right track. Don't wear yourself out." I know, right? Amber's much more into this than I thought, too.
Mikemon would give a smile, putting the device away as he'd give a nod over to Holly. "They're alright, Coal just wanted to get a bit more practice in or something."
"Wonder what she did today. I know my sis is not into this physical stuff as I am... hm?" It wouldn't take long for a portal to open up right inside the front door, and through it - presumably - Coal and Silence would make their entrance. Mikemon would give a smile towards Silence, before turning to face Coal, giving a small tilt of his head. She'd feel a small tingle as the doctor's eyes scanned his data.
No fatigue from physical training, but: "Hm. Silence, make sure that she eats and drinks up, at least in a little bit. Looks like she's spent a lot of time using her 'magic'."
"Hm?"
"Like, if you kept your 'light' on for a long time, you'd feel just as tired as you do now, Amber."
"Really?" The fox gave a blink, idly creating a dancing light in her palm - finding it a bit hard to focus. "I didn't think those both pulled from the same place..."
"Its all energy. Its gotta be created from somewhere!"

”All right. That leaves… a lot of time for resting and thinking things over…”
Coal woozily shifted in her seat, almost falling over from trying to stand up. Silence tilted her head to one side as Iko spoke; so when he sparred with her previous iteration the two of them had a bad habit of sparring for more or longer rounds than they should have. Silence would rub her chin and then nod.
”An alarm would do well or alarms if you’re going to do a long day like this one.”
Coal rubbed at her face and then felt her face turn red as she felt that hand on her head. SHe’d bury her head into her fluff and mumble a little bit. She wasn’t expecting that and honestly that had a decent effect on making her fur fluff outwards a bit!
”A-ah… All right. I’ll keep trying… T-thank you Mr. Iko...”
”Probably something to do with her shadows if I had to bet. She’s been really into that stuff.”
Holly leaned on her hands and stared quietly at the portal that opened up. Coal looked absolutely beat and silence looked rather cheerful. Returning the smile with a quick grin; coal on the other hand would shift tiredly blinking as she felt that tingle as her da scanned her data.
”Well given that was pretty much all she was doing today I’d be surprised if that wasn’t the case.”
She’d give a gentle pat on the back to coal and then lead her to sit down, going off to the kitchen to go get something ready for everyone. While she wanted to talk more she also wanted to make sure her family was well taken care of!
”Today was mostly me just trying to fill a circle with the shadow from a candle. It… was a lot harder than what I expected. Is there any hot water left in the shower? I… could kind of use one.”
Coal managed a small smile, trying not to look too tired but she was really failing there. She had been pushing herself all day today and holly would give the top of her head a gentle pat.
”Lemme go make sure things are ready for that then… since silence will be a bit with the food I figure.”
Coal hearing that smiled a little more, leaning back in her chair with a sigh. There was so much to handle here! So much to work with! And none of it was stuff that she was used to.
”...So it’s all about finding balance with the two… what did you work on today sis?”

Indeed - training was done for the day. Now it was time to rest, recover, reflect - and spend the rest of the day not training, so the two would be nice and refreshed for the next session. Three days a week honestly seemed a little bit intense for the two of them, but if they could keep up, the effort would do a lot to catch the two up to speed!
"Yeah, there should still be some hot water left. Just be careful standing up, alright?" Mikemon gave a smile, nodding to Holly as both the Meiphemon and Shutmon left the room. The doctor would excuse himself back to the office, needing to get through a bit of paperwork. That left Amber and Coal alone for the moment, and as the Black Renamon-X asked her yellow sister what she did today, Amber beamed. "Well, did you know Holly knew how to build things? You see..." It would be a few weeks later.
Though Amber and Coal were still definitely green behind the ears, the two had definitely made a fair bit of progress - and more importantly, gotten used to the schedule in front of them! Amber was made to go through longer and increasingly difficult sections of the obstacle course, and Coal might have finally gotten that circle down - meaning she would have moved onto direct sparring with the Ankomon. Though Iko pulled his punches, he by no means went 'easy' on her, being quick to exploit blind spots and weaknesses in Coal's form to keep her on the back foot.
As for Amber? She'd learned enough about her balance that, when Holly came back to the obstacle course that Wednesday, she'd already see the yellow fox balanced on a stable, yet narrow, tree branch.

Coal was grateful in the fact that they were done for the day; she felt sore in places she hadn’t even thought she had! Even though she physically hadn’t done anything there was quite a bit of her energy that had been used. She’d exhale softly and nod her head; returning that smile to her da as he spoke.
”I might just take a bath if that’s the case…”
Coal mumbled a bit and leaned back in her chair, sighing softly. The both of them were probably really sore for various reasons! She’d rub at her face and blinked a bit at hearing that holly knew how to build things!
”No I didn’t… I just thought she was a good study…”
Coal would lean forward, rather intrigued about what amber had to say about their older sister. What other things was that strange goat like digimon hiding? What else could she do? She’d have to ask sometime!
The schedule wasn’t too bad to get used to; thankfully the first week or so was all that it took for coal to get used to it. Using her off days to recuperate and read up on things. Trying to figure out her abilities without exerting herself too much…
But the direct sparring with iko was something that she really wasn’t sure how to handle; she wasn’t very good at fighting it seemed. Even with iko going easy on him it’d be difficult for the wolf to overlook such outrageous spots and weaknesses in her form. It was frustrating enough for her to find that she was constantly on her rear and rubbing at a spot that the wolf was able to get in through her ‘defense’.
”H-heck… closing that gap is hard…”
Holly seeing her sister like that only made her grin wider and wider, she’d motion for her sister to come on down to join her and would take her to the other side of the course. Motioning at some of the newer stuff she had come up with for her sister. It looked like one of those wipe out courses that you’d see on reality television save a little softer.
”Got a few things today, your balance is excellent but it’s about time we start working on your reflexes and abilities!”

"That's the nature of what our abilities do, Coal."
Watching Coal get back to her feet, Iko would briefly rub his nose with the back of his hand. "Our shadow abilities work best at middle range. Close enough where our shadows can strike the enemy, but far enough away that we're out of direct combat. Anyone experienced enough is going to try and press in close - and if you don't know how to defend yourself at close range, without using your known techniques, you're going to be at a huge disadvantage."
As an example, Iko would step in, shoulder right up against Coal's collar. "If I'm right here, and your first instinct is to channel your shadows, you're going to end up right on your back. And if an opponent is able to push you down on your back, your front side and stomach are exposed for a 'blast' or a direct follow-up from the enemy claw. You need to be capable enough to stay alert and on your feet... so c'mon."
Iko stepped back to his initial position. "Try it again." As for Amber?
As Holly showed up, the yellow fox would hop down, and follow along with Holly. The Meiphemon had continued to build more and more onto the course. More ropes, more buffers, more platforms... and were a few clones out there still maintaining the platform? The yellow fox looked up at them, before looking back at Holly as she spoke.
Reflexes? Abilities? "You mean we're going to be doing stuff other than obstacle courses today? I mean," the fox motioned to the exceedingly long course at this point. "This is fun, but Coal's already onto actual fight practice!"

”Y-yeah?”
Coal dusted herself off, looking up at the wolf with a curious expression on her face. So she should be trying to keep that middle range as best she could right? The wolf wasn’t making that part very easy but that was the entire point! She’d furrow her brow and scratch at her neck. Just like how her ma had been handling the two of them in that practice bout; she had been trying to stay close with the both of them.
”Right… using my claws or… well body in general I guess.”
Another blink and she’d look to that shoulder pressing against her collar. He had the right of it and she couldn’t help but want to do exactly that. So she needed to work on creating distance rather than channeling her shadows.
”I think I get what you mean.”
The renamon-x shifted her stance and frowned a bit; so if her weaknesses were apparent and her openings were just the same… Maybe if she used those to draw iko in she could perhaps work with where she knew he’d go for. There were a few spots in her defense she knew about that she could work with… So drawing him in would be part of the challenge here.
She’d try for that first just to test the waters… if iko bit well she’d close in on him. But if he didn’t or avoided that entirely she’d likely be on her back again. Or maybe she’d be able to catch him just in the knick of time…
Jeez this is hard…
Holly nodded her head a few times; they indeed were going to be doing other things that obstacle courses today! She had a few ideas on how to work improving them and then… Well hearing that amber found it more fun than challenging caused the meiphemon to pause.
”I know she’s onto the fight practice, but I don’t know if I should be the one to teach you how to fight sis. My… particular type of fighting style isn’t exactly the best for someone starting out.”
She’d rub at her neck and then give a small shake of her head. She could teach amber basics but if she went too deep… Amber might end up on the path holly wanted to avoid herself!
”But i suppose there isn’t any harm in teaching you the basics and working from there. Thankfully one of the parts of the course is a large round bit… just gotta remove the weights that would knock yah off...”
Holly mumbled to herself and rubbed at her chin, turning to go to that exact platform she was talking about before. Even bringing with her one of those early weights that had knocked amber on her arse quite a few times!
”I’m going to teach you something very important; Something that my ma and da taught me. Something about focus and patience. So just watch me for a minute all right?”
Holly would set down the ‘weight’ on the center of the mat, gesturing for her sister to take a seat. She’d draw her fingers together, slowly bringing along some energy from her form into where she was concentrating.
”At the center of your body is a powerful mass of data, known as our core. This fuels everything our body does, it’s where we draw our energy from, where our abilities and memories lay. With the right bit of practice and your own personal touches…”
The meiphemon would slowly draw her hands out, a crackling length of energy appearing in either of her hands. Forging together a single spear out of the stuff. She’d tap at the mat before tossing it at the dummy. There was a brief flash of energy and all that was left of said dummy was a smoking husk of pillow stuff.
”You can do just about anything you can put your mind to. From what I recall, Silence said that you were able to do something along the lines of diamond storm. I want you to show me how you draw it out and I want you to show me the other things you may have figured out since our training started. If not… I have a feeling I can help you draw out this abilities of yours. Given that I’ve been doing more than just take your times or watch you do flips for three weeks.”
Holly tapped at her clipboard and offered amber to start on a new dummy. The meiphemon was being patient with her sister and if the other wanted to started to fight… Holly needed to know what she was working with!
”Light is a strange element. But I think out of everyone in our family other than coal… I’m the closest one to helping you figure out how to use it. And once we figure that out… then yes I’ll start helping you learn how to fight. Okay?”

"Unfortunately for something like this, thinking about it and doing it are two entirely different things."
It didn't take long for Iko to settle back into his stance, and as Coal went back into her's? Iko narrowed his focus. He could tell that Coal was trying something - usually, she was quick about correcting mistakes that the wolf pointed out - but what it was, honestly, wasn't too much of the wolf's concern. As Coal 'thought' about it, Iko decided to test Coal in a different way.
He'd close the distance. And if he could get in range, he'd move to shoulder-check Coal against her mane, leaning most of his weight against that front shoulder. Off-hand, he might have looked off-balance - but if Coal sidestepped, she'd suddenly find the wolf's arms going wide. Either way?
This was an up-front effort, to try and simply sweep Coal off of her feet, either with a push or a tackle. "I mean... I have to learn fighting from you at some point, right?"
Amber gave a furrow of her brow, but the moment that Holly agreed, the yellow fox found herself beaming! She'd follow right on along to that round platform, and once the two were on top of it, the fox would flick her ear. She intently listened to the lesson at hand - listening as Holly spoke about the 'Core', right at the center of the body. Amber took a seat, gently pressing a hand to the middle of her chest.
"Dad works a lot with that sort of stuff... 'anything we can put our minds to'?" The fox blinked, wonderinf it it was really so convenient. "As it is, I really only know 'light'. As for how I do it," the fox would stand, press her palms together, and focus. At several points around the fox, the familiar crystal of diamond storm began to appear - but instead of launching forward, the 'gems' - pieces of glass - simply floated in the air. With another 'pulse', the light energy in the prisms built up, and sent forth condensed beams of light towards the dummy, leaving deep singes on the tough surface.
"... I basically... 'tell' light what to do around me." The fox gave a nod, raising her hand. This time, the light traveling to her arm began to bend around, causing it to vanish from sight. "I can create it, somewhat, but I seem to be better at making it do what I want? Its hard to picture, I guess - I mean, light's everywhere."

”Isn’t that the case with most things though? Easier to think about but harder in practice?”
Coal furrowed her brows, looking unsure for a moment. Really how would she address this issue? It was a lot harder in practice, this body wasn’t really physically powerful. Relying mostly on it’s abilities. Her attempt at trying something new was instead interjected by Iko doing something else entirely.
He wouldn’t have an issue closing the distance; Coal looked dubious and a little worried for a moment. Iko brought his shoulder to try to check her; making her side step just enough to where he’d miss… Only for one of those arms to clonk the side of her head and causing her to tumble into the dirt rather unceremoniously. If it wasn’t for the fact she wasn’t wearing her goggles or glasses they probably would have gone flying.
”....Ow…”
She’d mumble a bit and rub at her head with a hand, looking to push herself back to her feet. She wasn’t bothered by failure or being on the ground more often than not. Maybe it was because she didn’t know better or perhaps it was just the fact that losing didn’t bother her at all. She’d take her ready stance after a few moments; her thoughtful expression was back and her eyes were sweeping over Iko’s form…
”A lot harder to put into practice…”
But rather than wait and see what he would do, she’d move forward in a controlled manner. Eyes watching what he was doing carefully; her brow furrowed deeper in thought and she’d put one foot forward. Bringing one of her hands around to try to clonk iko in the side, if he blocked or adjusted to that maybe she could follow through with a kick or… maybe a shadow of some kind?
”I spose you would have, but most of the things tI’m going to teach you you wouldn’t learn from a usual fighter. Maybe I should bring you to the person who’s training me for proper fighting...”
Holly wasn’t against taking her little sister to go see people that were better than her. But as it stood Gaius already had his hands full when it came to training people. That and it would require Amber to enrol in school… which she wasn’t sure if the twins were even thinking about it.
”Mhm, he’s the leader in his field. He’s in fact one of if not the only one of it. I might be studying for the same venue but it’s difficult that’s for sure.”
Holly sighed a bit and shook her head. That was besides the point; she believed firmly that amber could do anything she thought of. If she only really knew light and only really knew how to do it. But holly believed firmly that her little sister could do anything. She’d watch her sister, noting the way she moved, how she could sense that energy. She’d tap her chin and shift to watch her.
Seeing the prisms hit the dummy wasn’t the important part, not to her at least. She’d hum a bit and nod her head.
”So you can recreate what some people call diamond storm but with light, pretty cool. You can also create light and make yourself vanish… Oh that’s not an issue for me to imagine things; I’ve seen some nonsense I’ll tell you that! Heh.”
Holly chuckled a bit and rubbed at an ear, moving over to sit next to her sister. She’d put a finger to her chest and slowly trace it over to the shoulder, following an energy path, down her arm and to her finger.
”What we should be focusing on is the way you use energy and how to appropriately work with it. But to know how much energy you have to work with we’re going to have to fight a lot and I’m going to have you use energy until it’s hard for you to move okay? I’m also going to show you tricks, tips and moves that you can use against people you need to fight. No using this sort of stuff on family or friends.”
That last part seemed very serious and on point, the eyes of the meiphemon staring hard at her sister as though asking and telling her that this was the rule. It was ironclad; if they were going to have coal and amber train with one another at one point… Well amber would probably have to either tone down the moves or not use them at all.
”I’ll also teach you the flow of energy points, that way you can understand attacks and where they’re likely to come from. A trick I learned from my own teacher. And he… was very rough in that implementation I’ll tell you that.”

A lot harder to put into practice.
Though they were sparring, Iko wasn't too rough of a teacher. As Coal picked herself up, Iko would reach out a hand to help pull her up, and make sure that she was still stable, balanced, and ready to keep going. The wolf would take a few steps away to re-set his stance. For the next attempt, Coal decided to be the aggressor, aiming to swipe her claw at his side. In response, the wolf's movement was rather minimal, adjusting to take the hit with his bicep. The hit forced him to dig his feet into the dirt, the wolf giving a nod.
Make every swing towards your opponent's center of gravity. If you can't calculate that, then make sure the core is in the 'path' of your attack. The opponent will be forced to block or dodge, giving the aggressor the advantage. Alright, Coal...
"What do you do from here?" "Dad's the only one in his field? But don't scientists compare notes and stuff?"
How would the doctor know what he was doing was right, without reference? Was he relying on Holly, or were there others with close enough fields? Bah, Amber thought too much about that - her dad was impressively smart, regardless! For now, all she could really do was show her abilities to her older sister, and listen to her advice. She gave a chuckle when Holly called her attacks 'pretty cool'.
But what Amber really caught onto was that claw, tracing from her 'core' down to her arm. Amber was listening - she learned that much from mom - but something 'clicked' in her head just in that moment. To help herself from being distracted, Amber repeated what Holly said: "No using this stuff on family and friends... I mean, of course, of course, I don't want to hurt them." Amber's unfocused gaze tightened up, nodding to ensure Holly that she understood. "And... I get what you're saying. But let me just... try something first."
"I mean, you know me. I'm going to be distracted until I get this out." She would chuckle, but then her 'focused' expression would return, as the Renamon-X would turn away from Holly, and raise her arms, palms pointing outward. "From my core outward... follow the path right through my arms..."
A deep breath. The yellow fox would hold her position - and this time, instead of the glass prisms appearing around her, a single 'disc' appeared right in front of the fox. It might have appeared to be a shield at first, but it was too thin, too fine and fragile, and barely bigger than one of her palms. "Focus it onto one point... let it build up..."
From her palms - and, further up, from her core - light energy would flow out right into the disc. Unfocused at first, it would soon converge right onto the central, most concave part of the created lens - and once it built up? Holly would see a bright, multi-colored laser fire right on outwards, over the edge of the mountain - the energy intense enough that it left a small swath of melted snow underneath its path! Amber gave a blink, seeing the lens vanish, looking carefully down at her hands.
... And she gave a laugh. "Wow... dad was right. One shot, and my arms feel like I helped mom move that bookshelf again!"

Coal managed a small smile and accepted the hand that iko offered. She was stable, a little woozy on her feet but mostly ready to keep going. They had been at it for the better part of the day now. It would be around time to take a break normally but coal felt like she was close to something. It was rare for coal to take the initiative on things and this was no different. Her attack aimed at his side was met to his bicept. She’d run her eyes along iko’s form for a moment and furrow her brow.
”From here there’s several openings to exploit. Your legs are wide open cause you blocked, I could follow throw with a shadow off of my body and work around your arm… Or use your own shadow to attack you from behind while you’re distracted by my physical attack.”
Coal however didn’t do any of the things she said, pulling back her fist. She looked a lot more into this than normal. In fact she seemed to move past her usual stutter as well.
”It also wouldn’t be hard to blast someone close quarters with my eye or chain them and make it more difficult to move. I have a lot of options.”
But for her the question was what could she do?
”But against you… I feel like anything with my powers would be met poorly or with you bapping me. So I’d want to keep the momentum, cause I was coming in maybe…”
She’d look down at her feet, looking uncertain and shifting her weight from leg to leg.
”I don’t usually do kicking but it kinda feels like that’s what I should do in that sort of situation. Can I have that set up again?”
”Well not like he’s the only doctor or scientist but when it comes to the core stuff he’s the lead and the one that people ask for things. A lot of the time he has to do guess work and has to be really careful. Like with me when he was looking over my meiphemon form it wasn’t naturally occurring; so he was worried where I got the data from would have some negative effects due to it’s strength.”
Holly shifted her weight and flicked her ears forward as the other spoke up again; she didn’t want to hurt her friends or family. Making the meiphemon smile warmly; that unfocused gaze tightened and the other wanted to try something. She’d shift to one side to watch; grinning like a fool as she repeated what holly had suggested.
Seeing that disc appear holly thought it to be a defensive move, leaning this way or that. But it was too small, too fine and too fragile. She’d watch the other, a clipboard suddenly in her hands and seeing that bright multi-colored laser fire out over the head of the mountain holly let out a low whistle.
”Da helped you with that? Mmm; a lot of power to work with if you melted all that… Can you do it on command? Could you focus it down a little more? On the dummy?”
Holly moved over to her sister, squeezing at her forearm, bicep and shoulder. Even going so far as to poking her with the pen to sort of see what reaction she’d get; if it was that sort of soreness from one shot… What would her other abilities do if she did them over and over? Or put too much into them?
”You have a lot of power but your control might be a bit lacking; not terribly uncommon… Reminds me a bit of someone too. Or at least what I was told about them...”

"Not a bad eye... but there's something more direct you need to consider when working with shadows. Raise your arm as if you're going to block."
Iko, of course, didn't move in for a full swing with his next example. Instead, he gently put his hand right on Coal's bicep - right where he blocked Coal - and started from there. "Hook your forward, pivoting foot right against the side of the enemy's front foot. Then, directly from the point of contact..." Iko would pull his hand back, just as an example, "... use the shadow you created, directly against the enemy's arm, to bind their arm to yours."
He would use a tendril to hold the arm in the bind - and for the next bit, would give a gentle pull. Not enough for Coal to actually tip forward, but enough that she could see that her balance was compromised. "Use a sudden pull. Catch your enemy off-guard, and force them to trip forward - and as they fall into your arm, use your free hand to take a swing at their exposed temple."
Again, Iko didn't follow through, giving less than a tap with his knuckle at the side of her head. Past that, though? He'd release Coal from the binds, and would give a nod - first to the Renamon, and then to the stands. "Garlond, get a few of the padded dummies. Do you want to show her how to use her legs, or do you want me on that?" Dad's history aside, Amber's focus was quickly on her own technique. Indeed, it was a draining one to use, but for a rookie, definitely looked powerful. Amber slowly found herself standing back up straight, blinking as the Meiphemon started to poke around her frame.
"Hm? Well, no, no-one showed me how to do it. I mean... you kind of did?" Amber tilted her head. "You told me about energy flows, and that all sounded somewhat familiar, so I just tried it myself. I wanted to see if I could make something of it if I just put all of my energy forward, and... yeah, yeah, let's try it on a dummy."
It would take a minute to set up, which was fine - Amber needed a breather in order to focus on that again! Once it was set up, though, the fox would run through the steps again. "On command... not really, not yet. I'm probably still thinking about it too much."
But she was able to draw it out again - and just as before, a full-power blast soared right on through, striking the dummy right at the front - causing a deep singe, before it managed to almost explode on contact, with the built-up energy, and set the cloth surrounding it on fire, the broken dummy tumbling into the snow.
Amber blinked... and fell to a knee, supporting herself on a palm to catch her breath.

”Something more direct?”
Coal’s brows shot up and she’d do as she was asked, blocking much like how iko did. So if she hooked her forward pivoting foot… and then from there. She watched him quietly; taking in everything that he was saying. Such a minute action that had a big option. Using that shadow she created against the arm she could bind them together.
Just like iko was doing now, she was pretty much just going along with what he was doing. Watching her feet and noting how off center she was. A simple push would make this an issue, a single pull and… Wow he certainly had a lot to work with. Feeling that tap against her temple she’d look up at him.
”So in almost four steps you not only throw them off balance you also are able to open up an opportunity for another attack to a weakpoint… Interesting. But if they have armor or a hard head wouldn’t it be better to attack somewhere else?”
She’d turn her head to see garlond, who had been reading something stand up. Closing his book with a snap and a smile.
”Mmm. I believe it would be in her best interests if you were to show her Sir. My own training is focused on a different and strange combat style if you recall?”
The renamon didn’t move all too much; going to the side of the arena and punching into a pad that lay there. A few moments later the wall would slide open to show an array of dummies; some lightly armored, others heavy and one that even looked to be like an omnimon… minus the legs.
”But if she ever wishes to learn how to control finite points at long distances you certainly can rely on me Sir.”
”I wasn’t sure if you were going to put that into application so quickly, so kudos sis~”
The meiphemon smiled a bit and watched her sister; with the dummy being set up and ready for the other… Well it wasn’t too long before amber shot out a full powered blast. Striking through the dummy and setting fire to the cloth. She’d pat at the cloth and looked around, making sure that all the fires were put out quickly. She’d eye the broken dummy and with Lily’s long tail like body would scoop it up to place it back on the mat.
She’d then quickly go over to her sister, squeezing at their arms. Checking their forehead and writing down a few notes. It wouldn’t be a moment later that the meiphemon offered them a bag of jerky. The cuts were thick and they were treated with something that if the renamon bit down would find their reserves coming back a lot faster than they should have.
”Yeah I thought as much, drawing from your core in such a direct way you’re pulling more than what you’re intending. Two shots isn’t going to make much of a difference in a long fight but we know where your ‘limit’ is. ”
The meiphemon wouldn’t stop fussing over her sister, even going so far as to check her eyes a small flash light testing to see how her pupils responded to the stimulus.
”So now my question is, do you want to keep going and training this? Or do you want to move on to practical training?”

Coal had improved a lot over the past few sessions. She was more consistent with her shadows, stuttering a lot less in his presence, and consistently asking important questions. Iko, of course, obliged her with an answer. "It really depends on the type of opponent. If there's any holes to exploit in the armor, like a Knightmon, what you really want to do is try and intersect your shadow with one of the openings."
"And if not, in the case of a machine Digimon or similar? A throw would be pretty effective, countering their weight if you're able to pull it off."
Iko's ear gave a flick with Garlond's answer. His specialty was with a strange combat style? As the Renamon would open up the supply room, Iko would give a nod - but as Garlond would try and step away, he'd reach, and would pull gently back at the fox's gloves. "Well, if that's your answer, then it wouldn't hurt you to join in on this practice lesson, would it?" Iko would give a chuckle - and in short order, three practice dummies would be set up.
If Garlond stuck around, he'd now be instructing for two! "Of course, its important to consider your legs as an option, but be warned that any time you position a kick, you're putting your center of gravity at risk by shifting the center of gravity to your ankle. Really, I only want to teach you two kicks."
He'd start with a short, low movement kick, right to the 'feet' of the dummy: "A leg sweep..."
And then, a more animated kick at the ribs. "... and a roundhouse. I'll help you two with the form, but this will take more practice than you'd might expect..." It was definitely draining stuff.
Amber would gladly take the jerky, taking a large, hearty bite out of the tough meat as she slowly worked her way back up to her feet. Additives or not, it was tasty, and a good way for the yellow fox to get back some energy. "So its only something I should do when I have a clear shot - y-you can stop checking my arms now, sis." The fox would pull away slightly, definitely a bit fussy. As for her question?
Amber considered it. "I guess... I know invisibility, and how to get a good angle on the opponent, and am good at 'middle' and long range with what I can do, but..." She tilted her head. "Maybe I'm weak if people get close to me? Like, I can't pose myself or focus, and I can only teleport a few times... what do I do if the enemy gets close?"

Coal’s improvement also came from familiarity with iko, if she had to switch trainers constantly it would have gone a bit poorly. The stuttering and other bits were also because she wanted to learn and this was one of her only things that she did out of… well anything at all really! Hearing his answer the renamon considered; if there was armor exploit the weaknesses. If it was a machine digimon or something that didn’t have glaring weaknesses… countering their weight? She could do that if given a good pivot point.
”So like with ma; her shutmon form is pretty armored and so is her renamon one. But there’s gaps in any armor. So if I targeted those gaps with the shadows it’d go better? Hmm. I’ve never seen a machine digimon or anything of the like but I’ll have to take your word on it.”
Garlond paused when the wolf tugged at his gloves; managing a brow raise as the other spoke. It couldn’t hurt? He sposed not. Given that his role was to be a butler for knights after all…
”It wouldn’t hurt no. I presumed that your focus was on coal but perish the thought at turning away an opportunity to learn.”
The renamon stuck around, his arms folded behind his back as he watched the wolf. Coal nervously shifting from one foot to the other; sure she had seen garlond almost every time but compared to iko she barely knew the mon. She’d keep her eyes on iko, watching the leg sweep and the roundhouse. Garlond found his brow raising and it wasn’t too long before coal made her first attempt…
But she wasn’t incredibly successful, her momentum on the sweep was stopped by the ground and she’d send herself flopping over with a rather surprised grunt. Garlond looked worried for a moment but after a few attempts she’d manage to do the same thing that iko did. Albeit with less impact.
Garlond on the other hand didn’t even have a problem, easily following suit. Though his form seemed to be a little rusty given the fact he hadn’t been fighting as often as the others.
Coals attempt at a roundhouse just ended up with her over extending and landing flat on her back, which prompted Garlond to help the youth back onto her feet for attempt number two! Then three… then four… Then twelve. Eventually she’d manage to get the momentum to where it wasn’t having her flop on her back but her kick didn’t have quite the same amount of power.
In comparison? Garlond’s roundhouse was solid and with a heavy thwack the dummy curved inwards at where the renamon had hit. In comparison to coal? Garlond had a serious amount of power in his frame for a butler. And even if he didn’t have the training that Iko was presenting he was a quick study; maybe even quicker than holly was in some aspects. Given that his entire life was well.. Around folks like this.
”Hmm… Little much on my part.”
”...You bent the metal.”
”That I did. But then again in comparison, I’m a champion renamon and you are a rookie. There is bound to be differences in strength.”
Coal blinked a few times and garlond gave a shrug. His rookie form was very unbecoming so he preferred to remain in champion. Coal rubbed at her chin and glanced to iko; furrowing her brow after a moment and then nodding. Something had clicked.
”A round house and leg sweep can tie together right? Like if you keep your momentum one can tie into the other? It’d shift your center of balance a lot wouldn’t it?”
Holly pulled her hands back and let out a small chuckle; to the twins she had always been a bit physical. Making sure that her presence was felt, heard and seen at all times so that they’d be comfortable around her.
”A clean shot, so the opening of a fight, in the midst of one or near the end when they’re tired. Sorry about that.”
Hearing that she had invisibility, how to get a good angle and that she was good with middle n long ranges? That left one thing. Close range. Holly’s face went from a somewhat cheerful smile to a downright thoughtful one.
”What you can do is focus on their weakpoints, pressure points, data flow, energy flow. What your fighting style should do is make it so it’s hard to keep close to you or want to be close to you. In short? You want to be the sort of fighter that forces them to stay away.”
Holly shifted her attention to the dummy and frowned a bit. How was she to help her sister here? How would she show her what she meant? The meiphemon sat crosslegged and considered for a moment.
”So what I’m going to do is teach you all of that, teach you where to hit things in just the right way to force them to stay away. But I’m going to tell you this; if you do it right or do it wrong there’s the chance that it’ll do more than just hurt them. It could potentially kill them. So don’t you dare use this if you spar with coal, silence or da. They’ll have their own fighting styles you can learn from too and you can blend it all together. But this will be your ‘base’ if that makes sense?”
Holly's tone was serious, beyond so. To the point where there was some dark look in her eye. She didn't want her sister to get hurt in the same way she did and she was willing to go the extra step to make sure that was the case. But in comparison to the training that iko had coal going through holly's was a bit more broad and less focused. Given that she was trying to cover so much...

"Well, I'd say its more accurate that there's 'weak points' in armor instead of gaps. Even thick cloth over the spaces would be enough to prevent shadows from easily pushing in."
That point of advice aside, it was time to move onto practical lessons. Part of the reason Iko wanted Garlond in on this lesson was the 'similarity in shape' that he had with Coal. The 'clever butler' usually picked up on things like this rather quickly, and if Coal had a better point of reference to compare herself to, maybe she'd pick it up better herself.
The wolf watched Coal first, and gave her a few pointers regarding her weight distribution and balance. She was far from perfect, but she also had next to no experience in actual fights, so it was to be expected. As for Garlond? The low kick seemed to come naturally, and the high kick ended with a resounding 'thwack', even the metal beam inside of the dummy beginning to hum as it vibrated back and forth.
"... Sometimes I forget that you're champion." Iko gave a small chuckle, and bent the beam right back into place, before giving a shrug and just tossing the whole thing into the 'scrap pile', back in the closet. He listened to Coal, and returned a half shrug. "Potentially, but it is a large swing of weight, and even difficult to master in training, let alone utilize in an actual fight. But you don't just have legs. If you make them pay attention low, then your claws should land better, right?"
He gave a smirk. "You're getting there. The next few weeks you're going to be working on physical combat and grapples..." Focus on weak points?
That... honestly, Amber didn't expect to hear that. What Amber thought was that she was full of weak points, and she wanted to know how to best handle those. But the description of the fighting style made sense to her: she wanted to be skilled enough in close range that the opponent didn't want to be closer here.
And Holly was willing to teach her just that - but quickly followed it up with a stern warning. A warning that could only come from weeks, perhaps months of experience... and Amber gave a nod.
"Alright. But I mean, it'll be difficult to practice unless I have someone to practice on more than dummies, so..." She mulled it over. "... I'm guessing I'll be working with your clones, then?"
