Kitsumaru trudged along through the forest with determination written all over his face. He was going to be reunited with his partner, even if it killed him. He hadn't run into much in the Digital World this time around, though his past experiences were quite some time ago. He had arrived on a Trailmon not too long beforehand, and was really wishing his journey could end right there.
Kitsumaru was searching for his partner whom he had parted ways with quite some time ago. Recently, he had begun wishing that he could be reunited with his partner. Whether it was the result of nostalgia or purely because he was bored with his current, adult life, he knew one thing for certain: Patamon kept life interesting. He loved Patamon and had been through so much with him. He spent a lot of time regretting his past choices.
The trees began to thicken and a thick mist began to dominate his surroundings the further he trudged. He began to hear rustling about him but he wasn't going to stop to find out what it was about. He thought he saw some small plant-like beings scurry by him but was not phased. He was determined to search every nook and cranny of the Digital World until he found his partner.
As he neared what seemed to be the thickest part of the forest, he heard a booming voice.
"Please halt and state your business here."
Kitsumaru stopped and cleared his throat.
"H-hello. My name is Kitsumaru Amane. I'm searching for my partner, Patamon. It's been years since I've last seen him and I have had no way to find him since parting ways."
The voice echoed back to him.
"Well. You seem to speak genuine words. I will allow you passage so that you may search for your friend. The Village of Beginnings is just as good a place as any to begin your search."
Kitsumaru wished this had been the first place he looked. But, if anything had happened to Patamon, he would have ended up here. Kitsumaru felt the air clear as the fog lifted. He could now see a small clearing in the trees up ahead. He ran quickly and found himself in a small village where a large, sentient tree was standing and grinning at him.
"My name is Cherrymon," said the tree. "Had I known you were a lone human I wouldn't have stopped you."
Kitsumaru shrugged and gave a nervous laugh. He began to scan the area, taking note of the large toy-like structures and digitama scattered about. Nothing looked quite familiar about any of the digitama. Kitsumaru thought that maybe Patamon's egg would make itself obvious if he happened to have reverted to a digitama.
Kitsumaru slowly lowered his head. He began to think about every single scenario that could have happened to Patamon. Patamon could be captured somewhere, lost somewhere, in the Real World looking for Kitsumaru, in a digitama somewhere else, or worse; Patamon could have been defeated and could have had his data loaded or completely eradicated.
Kitsumaru felt his face get hot and his eyes began to water. Cherrymon looked at Kitsumaru with sympathetic eyes and walked closer.
"Your friend is your partner, isn't he? Perhaps it's time to consider finding a new partner, my child."
Kitsumaru refused. His search had been going for months. He wasn't about to give up. He clenched his fists and grit his teeth. He wasn't going to let it end like this.
Kitsumaru suddenly felt a soft, warm feeling wash over him. It felt familiar. Patamon was here.
