The trio watched in jubilation as Taomon was hurled towards Bezil who had finally run out of tactics. They shielded their eyes when Bezil unleashed his all-powerful Lightstream, completely obliterating Taomon as it shot up into the sky, like a flare lighting the night sky. After a few seconds, the pillar of light died down, and when it did, all that was left was dust and echoes of data dancing into the wind.
The battle was finally over. They had won.
Justice looked up into the sky, feeling vindication. He closed his eyes and clasped his hands together, giving a small prayer for all the Digimon that were consumed by Taomon and Daomon. Their suffering was over, they were at peace now.
“Descansa en paz,” he concluded, ending his prayer. He was thankful of Bezil for asking him to come accompany him on this mission, and was proud to call him as a friend...no, as a brother. That was something he meant to say back at camp, but he was uncomfortable and awkward about his place in the family that he backed out. But now, with certainty, he was proud to call him, Matty, Jimmy, Owen family.
Vee and Gummy flopped onto the sand, panting. They were worn out, exhausted as the fight took about everything they had, but they were proud. They gave it their all and, sure, they almost died doing so, but it paid off beautifully. They looked at each other, and without saying a word, broke out into a weak laughter as they gave each other a fist bump.
With their hearts calmed, the two glowed, rapidly shrinking down as they devolved. But instead of returning to their Rookie forms, they went a step further, devolving to their In-Training forms: DemiVeemon and Tsunomon.
Gummy perked up hearing Bezil’s voice. With his heart racing, he got up and began bouncing his waymake his way towards the larger Digimon.
“Bezil…” he called out. As he got closer, tears began to stream down his eyes as he picked up speed, despite being drained.“Bezil... Bezil, Bezil!”
Despite the massive size of his boyfriend easily dwarfing the tiny orange Digimon, he bounced forward, poking his horn against Bezil’s foot.
“Don’t you ever scare me like that again!" he yelled. “You scared me to death! I thought you were gonna be her meal when they put us in a corner! I was gonna kill you if that'd happened! I’m so...I’m...so…” His voice began to waiver. His stabbing changed into the Tsunomon smushing his face against his boyfriend’s foot in a warm embrace. “I’m so glad that you’re ok…” His words were slightly muffled since his face was against his leg, but his cry of relief was just as loud. “When she started torturing you, I couldn’t do anything to stop her. I thought-'' Gummy struggled to talk, he was crying into him as he smushed his face even more. “I thought…” Another trailing comment, and he began to sob.
Watching this, Vee couldn’t help but tear up as well. He never saw his brother like this before. He was always the Digimon that said crying was a waste of time, but now, he was sobbing to his heart’s content. It made him happy, seeing that his little brother wasn’t the stoic, gung-ho Digimon that he used to be.
He made his way to Justice, oblivious to what was happening behind him, and began nuzzling his leg, grabbing the young man’s attention.
“Vee? Is that you?” He asked, looking down at him with a puzzled expression. He’s never seen Vee take on this form before.
“Yup, it’s me," Vee replied. "This is my In-Training form, DemiVeemon. It’s the form before Rookie. Gummy’s taken a form like this, too.”
Justice turned around and saw an orange, furred spherical Digimon with a slightly curved horn crying into Bezil. He gave a weak smile. “Heh, I learn something new everyday from you all. You never cease to amaze-”
There was a sudden movement, a flash of pain, and Justice was on the ground clasping his bloodied arm, and coughing so violently he could taste the coppery flavor of blood in his mouth. His breathing becoming haggard as he collapsed onto the sand, wheezing in pain, making Vee jump up in fear.
“Justice, Justice!” He exclaimed, shaking his shoulder with his tiny stubs for arms. “Bezil, Gummy, come here quick! Justice is hurt really bad!”

Bezil blinked as he saw Gummy approach him in his Tsunomon form. It was a little strange at first to see him like this, but as he felt the warmth he normally felt when Gummy was close by, this strangeness soon faded and he relaxed a little.
Gummy was angry with him, and justifiably so. Bezil had assumed all would be fine as they headed into an unknown situation, and had failed to scout it out first. It was only luck that they had survived. But he didn't say anything until Gummy had finished, and the Tsunomon's speech turned from anger to relief.
Bezil still on his knees, when Gummy started crying, Bezil reached out gently and picked him up, gently rubbing his cheek against his, a few tears dropping from his eyes too, from joy and relief. Even with Gummy in his weakened state, he felt just the same to him.
"Oh Gummy, I'm so sorry this happened." Bezil said, sniffling a little. "If I knew what they were capable of I would never have led you here, that I promise." If Bezil knew then what he knew now, he would've mustered a whole army of Ultimates and Megas to take these monsters out. "I've been an idiot..."
For the time being though, he was glad to have this little moment with his boyfriend. It was his love for Gummy being put under question and then confirmed that had partly allowed him to evolve to this state in the first place. And, in this moment, it was as real as ever. "I love you so much, Gummy, I really do." he said.
There was a distraction then when Justice started coughing up blood. Bezil turned to him at once and gasped. He forced himself back up, gently cradling Gummy under his arm, then limped over to the wounded human.
"No... Justice..." Bezil breathed, then determinedly readied himself to assist. He gently let Gummy down on the ground, then began to focus his energy. Bezil felt deep down that he had a new power now, one inherited from his parents - the ability to heal. It took a lot of energy to do so, and he didn't know exactly how it worked, but, he knew he had to do it quickly. One of the first things that his father Owen had taught him about humans is that if they bleed red, then they were seriously injured, and needed medical attention at once.
"I think I can heal him, I'll try..." Bezil promised to Vee and Gummy, then raised his paws, either side of Justice, a gentle blue-white energy glowing between them. He tried to use what little knowledge he had to power the technique, focusing on abstract thoughts. "Heal... mend... restore..." until the relevant technique became evident in his mind.
"Lifekicker!" he declared, and a wave of healing light shone over Justice. For a few seconds, this light would close his internal and external wounds. Alas, this technique was too much for Bezil's exhausted state. The Arresterdramon had reached his limit, and before his healing could carry out in full, he suddenly burst with light, shrinking down to his rookie Gumdramon form, and he collapsed to the side, panting.
"Was... that... enough?" he asked, hoping he had at least done enough to save Justice's life for now. In the corner of his eye, he saw a shadow from above. He estimated that it was another digimon approaching. But since that digimon felt like someone he could trust, he didn't take his eyes off Justice, hoping he had successfully healed.
Bezil attempts Lifekicker on Justice, but the effort causes him to de-digivolve to Rookie halfway through the treatment.
Lifekicker - Bezil by now has the ability to heal, just like his parents. Sends healing data on the way to a wounded ally. Restores a moderate amount of health to 1 ally. [Cooldown: 2 turns].

While it was a bit awkward for Gummy at first, him being in his Tsunomon form and Bezil still in his Arresterdramon form, towering over him. He didn’t mind. In fact he was more embarrassed himself since he loathed the form. It made him look weak, defenseless, easy to pick on, but as he embraced his boyfriend, it didn’t matter. Right now, he loved this.
Gummy looked up to Bezil as he picked him up and felt a twinge of guilt, for his bright yellow eyes were streaming tears down his cheek. He wasn’t angry at him, moreso at himself. Had he not underestimated those fiends and not spite them to evolve further, all of this could have been avoided. But they were alive, bruised, tired, but still alive and breathing. That’s all that mattered.
“Oh Bez...we’ve all been idiots,” Gummy said, nuzzling his cheek against his, “but you’re still my boyfriend - my big, strong boyfriend, so don’t beat yourself up; I’m the one who gets to do that.”
He closed his eyes, tears still rolling down his face. He felt warmth between the two growing stronger as they relished in this moment. It was then he realized something: him evolving wasn’t just triggered by Justice’s resolved heart, but his love for Bezil. That was proof how close they’ve gotten, and no evil was going to get rid of it, no matter how hard they tried.
“I love you too, Bezil,” he muttered.
Their moment was interrupted when Justice collapsed, coughing up blood. Gummy eyes widen in horror hearing Vee scream out. He hopped over to his fallen tamer after Bezil set him down, his face contorted with horror.
“What...the hell…!” Gummy blinked in disbelief. “I thought we shielded him with our wings against Doumon’s blast.”
“W-we did, but I think the sudden whiplash of the attack did more than just hurt him on the outside." Vee replied, on the verge of tears. Hearing Justice struggling to breathe made him feel worse and worse, remembering Gummy's injury back then. “Not again...not again...”
They watched as Bezil extended his hands and cast a blue-white energy over Justice. His wheezing and staggering breath slowly ceased as most of his wounds slowly closed up. They heard something in his chest audibly snapping back into place. Was that the cause of him struggling to breathe? Either way, it seemed like his major injury was mended for the time being, but they didn’t know how long it’ll last.
Bezil then devolved back into his Rookie form, drained of energy. Justice began to wince and groan in pain as he slowly came into consciousness. Gummy sighed in relief, happy that his human was ok, but for Vee, tears dropped down his face as he nuzzled his cheeks against his.
“It’s all my fault!” Vee wailed, covering his face with his arms. “I’m not good enough to be his partner.” He sobbed.
The twins then noticed a shadow approaching them from above. Like Bezil, they didn’t take their eyes off Justice, noting the silhouette’s familiar scent.
Justice slowly opened his eyes, seeing the shadow descending from above…

Bezil couldn't help but chuckle at those words. "Heh, yeah. That's something we can do later." he said about beating each other up. "After all, you, me and Vee reached Ultimate at the same time, yeah? Isn't that awesome?"
He thought that was something that was a net positive from this situation that might please Gummy after all.
In the next immediate crisis, Bezil noticed that Vee took Justice's injury the worst. The DemiVeemon crying 'not again'. Did... something bad happen before that they didn't tell him about?
Still though, Bezil had focused everything into saving Justice, and for the immediate moment, it seemed that he had succeeded. Even if his healing technique had not been completed, it seemed to take Justice out of immediate mortal danger. As Bezil de-digivolved to rookie, he was at least grateful to see that Justice was no longer bleeding, internally or externally. But it was still clear that he needed further medical attention.
As Justice flinched and returned to consciousness, Vee made an emotional outburst. Bezil moved to comfort him. "Don't say that, mate, you were awesome out there." the Gumdramon tried to reassure him. "It was a battle. A damn hard one. And we all got out of it alive thanks to you. And I mean that."
While it had been a team effort, of course, Vee had performed excellently in Bezil's eyes. Then, the shadow from above turned out to be the person that Bezil was most pleased to see right now.
"Dad!" he cried, seeing the MachGaogamon close in for a landing. Yes, it was his father.
As he landed, Owen surveyed the situation. He could sense the traces of two fallen digimon, and saw that Justice, Vee, Gummy and Bezil were still alive, but exhausted. An enormous battle had just occurred here. One dangerously close. Before he said anything, Owen gave a soft growl of frustration that he had not arrived sooner, and silently cursed everything that had led to this happening, but, he calmed himself, knowing that those that he cared about were alive.
"Bezil, what was that just now?" Owen asked his son. "I saw a huge blast of light, it was almost exactly like your papa's Lightstream attack. Was that him?"
"No, dad, that was me." Bezil said, sitting up with a proud expression on his face. "We all just evolved to Perfect just now."
"You did?!" Owen asked, glancing at Vee and Gummy, now in their In-Training forms. He could feel the energy in the air that this was the most likely case. "I see, well, great work, mate. But... Justice, is he okay?"
"I... I think so." Bezil admitted. "He was bleeding a bit earlier, but I used the last of my energy as Arresterdramon to heal him, and I think it's stopped..."
Owen examined Justice carefully. Yes, he had been bleeding, and he showed signs of burn damage, but, for the most part, he was out of immediate danger. Still, Bezil's healing had been incomplete. And Owen thought it would be best to mend the remaining problems before he'd fly them back to Ys.
"Okay, Justice, hold still while I do this. Don't worry, I've healed loads of times before, but I need to be careful with humans." the MachGaogamon said, gently. "I can't heal you completely right now, you'll need rest and treatment for that, but I'll take away the pain as best I can."
Owen then closed his eyes and focused like Bezil did. A similar blue-white light shone between his hands, and with a chant of "Emergency Bolster...", he would perform his well-practiced healing technique on him, that would soothe the pain for now. But it would need a good rest, medical treatment and time in safety for him to heal completely.
With that done, Owen turned to the three digimon. "I got here as fast as I could. I got it out of Bixby that he sent you here. I tried sending you a message through your NexT module, Bezil, but you didn't answer, so I flew here."
Bezil gasped, then reached into a pouch he wore on his waistbelt and pulled out his NexT - a module given to every member of KIZNA. Bezil then saw with dismay that his father's message had been sent 30 minutes ago with no answer. Bezil had silenced his module as they had moved in to check on Kyubimon and Youkomon.
"Dad... I'm so sorry." Bezil said, feeling shame and guilt fill him. There was no excuse for the neglect and foolishness he had got them into here. They had all come very close to death. Owen sighed in response, then reached out and scratched between Bezil's ears gently.
"Oh you silly bugger... don't apologize, you're beyond that now." Owen said. "Just... make sure you've learned lessons from this. You're a grown up digimon now, there's nothing further I can teach you myself, but, you still have lessons to learn, and I hope this has been one of them."
Bezil paused for a moment, a little stunned that he had made such a mistake that he thought his father would have been enraged about, instead he was speaking calmly.
"It has been, dad." Bezil said in reply. Owen nodded, then turned to Justice.
"Justice, are you feeling okay now? Can you talk?" Owen asked gently.
Owen arrives on the scene as MachGaogamon.
Owen uses Emergency Bolster to complete the healing that Bezil attempted earlier.
Emergency Bolster - Owen raises his power fists so the yellow light turns green, sending a green ray of energy over himself or an ally. The effect of this heals a moderate amount of damage, and also increases their defense by 25% for 2 turns. [Cooldown: 3 turns]

Vee slightly nodded at Bezil’s reassurance. He was right - it was a battle where anything could happen at a moment’s notice, and all that mattered was that they’ve got out of it alive. But what about the next time? What if they encounter an even sinister Digimon that was even more powerful, would he still be saying that? Would they be even strong enough to fend off a fiend like that?
Vee sniffed loudly, and rubbed the back of his tiny arm underneath his nose. “You say that, but...forget it.” Vee turned back to Justice, eyes half open. Gummy blinked, a bit surprised by his brother’s tonal change. He felt that something was off, but didn’t say anything. Vee sighed. “All that matters is that we got out of it alive...”
Then, the mysterious shadow from above soon came into view, revealing to be none other than Owen, Bezil’s dad, in his Ultimate form. They knew that data signature was familiar.
“You saw his attack all the way from where you were coming from?” Gummy inquired, then smiled. “That’s my Bezil for ya! Just wait til he catches up to you, old man. Then you’re gonna have to retire.”
Now for the pressing matters - Justice. He was conscious, but discombobulated. He could barely hear Owen as he struggled to keep his eyes open. He felt the same comforting ray washing over him, soothing the pain he felt. Justice began grunting and groaning, slowly coming to as he heard Owen’s voice rang through his ears clearly. He blinked his eyes slowly and saw the MachGagomon, Bezil, Vee and Gummy watching over him.
“O-Owen…” he groaned, slowly lifting his body up, only to wince in pain. Vee and Gummy blinked in concern, gesturing to him to take it slow and easy. “I’m feeling a little better, thanks to you and Bezil, but honestly, I still feel like shit. I...didn’t even know I was hurt this bad. I was so focused on the Digimon we faced that I ignored the pain. Next thing after, I felt something stabbing my lung; I could barely breathe, and-”
He paused, catching his breath. He looked down and his eyes widened, seeing that he was missing a shoe, and the other one charred. He groaned. “Dammit...these shoes cost me ¥25,000.” He rested his hand on the sand. “That’s a paycheck down the drain…”
Gummy sighed, seeing that his tamer was more upset than his sneakers were ruined instead of worrying about how hurt he was. “Honestly, Specs…”
Vee looked away, not saying a word, still upset about what happened to Justice.

Bezil thought that it was probably the right choice to leave Vee alone for now. They had all gone through a lot just now, and it'd be best for them to process it in their own time.
Owen thought the same and turned his attention to Gummy. "Well, it was charged up pretty strong. Hikaru demonstrated it to me when we were showing off our battle skills to each other. When charged up that much, I'd say that attack can be visible from space." He chuckled when Gummy said that Bezil was catching up to him. "Well, I look forward to that day." he said in response.
Then Justice finally spoke. Owen and Bezil paid attention to him. Bezil gasped at just how hurt the human was without reacting, but Owen sighed, giving a gentle smile.
"Yep, that checks out." he said, carefully patting his shoulder. "That's what happens to a lot of soldiers, they don't register their own damage until the danger's passed." he paused before looking between the four of them. "I only wish I got here sooner, but, you all handled yourselves excellently. I'm proud of you all."
Then Justice turned his attention to his shoes, which were badly damaged in the battle. Owen was initially confused by this, but then he remembered that he had never seen a human without their shoes. And thus the MachGaogamon assumed they were as important to them as clothes.
"Oh, it'll be fine, mate, I'll buy you some new ones." he said, quickly, then realized that he may have spoken too soon. "...that is, when I ask Jimmy where exactly I can buy shoes from..." he continued awkwardly.
Well then, now that they were mostly recovered from the battle, Owen would kneel down and offer Bezil, Justice, Vee and Gummy a lift onto his back and resting in his mechanical hands. "When you're all ready, I'll fly us back to Ys. We can sort everything out there."
"Okay, dad." Bezil said, resting astride his father's neck. With that, once everyone was secure, Owen would ignite his jetpack and take to the skies, heading to their home in the North.

Seeing his brother becoming reclusive, something that was completely out of character for him, Gummy wanted to cheer him up, but couldn’t find the words, so all he could do was empathize with him. He wasn’t really good at this kind of stuff. Heck, cheering others up was Vee’s specialty, so how do you cheer up the person who cheers others up? ‘Maybe...he’ll feel better if I give him some time.’ Gummy thought to himself.
Justice saw this too, but remained silent. He turned his attention to Owen. “Huh, I think I’ve heard something like that before. I didn’t think something like that would apply to me. It felt like I was pumped up with adrenaline.” Owen then expressed how proud he was of all of them, to which Justice gave a soft smile in response.
And then, shifting to the worst of the casualties: his shoes. Justice can only cringe at his remaining shoe, all charred and ruined; the sight alone made him want to cry. He had got those pairs of Jordans for retail before the price for them tripled, so if he wanted to replace those shoes, it would have to cost him an arm and a leg.
Hearing Owen said he’ll be happy to replace them, Justice lit up in surprise, only to narrow his eyes in disappointment when he revealed he didn’t know where to buy shoes from. He sighed. “I’ll tag along with Jimmy then, but it’s on your damn tab, old man…” he said, weakly laughing.
“Maybe if you didn’t wear those nice sneakers and wore some old ones, you wouldn't be feeling like this,” Gummy said, shaking his head. “I mean honestly, what’d you expect would happen, especially in a desert of all places?”
Justice flicked at the Tsunomon’s forehead in response, not appreciating the nagging. Gummy could only puff up his cheeks and frown.
With everything said and done, it was time to get out of her. Owen opened his arms, inviting the trio so he could carry them. Vee and Gummy hopped on right away, waiting for Justice. Now comes the difficult part: standing up.
“Ok, but don’t expect a miracle here...” Slowly, he got up, taking a knee. As he stood up, a flash of pain coursed through his legs and torso, making the young man grit his teeth in response. He staggered onto the MachGaogamon’s hands, collapsing soon afterward, making Vee and Gummy gasp at just how hurt he really was. But instead of reacting in pain, Justice gave a weak laugh. “Another win...for the history books.”
Gummy sighed again, moving next to his Tamer as he closed his eyes, the exhaustion finally taking over.
After that, Owen took off, heading back up North to Y’s. Justice relaxed, closing his eyes as he felt a breeze wash over him. He opened an eye and saw Vee sitting by himself, looking down. Without a word, Justice gently scooped him up, surprising the DemiVeemon as he gently pet the top of his head. “Vee, I’m sorry I made you worried. I know you hate seeing Gummy and I get hurt, but you can’t blame yourself for something that’s out of your control. I know, I should have gone a safe distance, but to be honest, just seeing you guys try your hardest for me made me want to do the same thing. I just felt safer just being alongside you two. You and Gummy protected me as best as you could, and for that, I’m truly thankful for. Like Bezil said, you were amazing out there, so don’t beat yourself up. In any case, thank you for always keeping me safe..."
Tears began to drop from the DemiVeemons eyes as he reached out his arms and hugged Justice, sobbing from relief. Justice hugged him tightly, softly shushing him in a soothing tone. “Shhhh, it’s ok…”
Looking up to Bezil, and Owen, he closed his eyes, enjoying the smooth flight. He was thankful that Bezil asked him to come with him. He was thankful that Owen came. To have someone drop everything and rush halfway across the world to save them meant a whole lot to him. That was something he was missing with his old family. It was at this moment that he truly felt like he belonged in Owen’s family-that he did not take him in out of pity--because he genuinely cared about him, and that alone made him tear up.
“Thanks...dad.”
