Lise gave a small smile as Yuko asked how she first became a chosen. "Well, it's rather embarrassing, really, but, I'm rather proud of my class that you haven't heard the tale yet." she began. "The truth is, I encountered a large egg on the way to work one day. And, as luck would have it, the egg hatched halfway through my class. It was quite the kerfuffle, but, thankfully cooler heads prevailed and it became something of a little secret between me and 10th Grade English..." she tapped her cheek with her pen before adding with a grin. "Perhaps it was my luck that quite a few of my students were also Chosen, so they knew how to deal with it." she chuckled before adding, "And some of my students were also digimon with holosuits."
Ah, quite a class that was. Lise remembered it fondly. Ideally it wasn't her preferred way of discovering she was a "Chosen", but, she supposed that there could be worse ways of finding out. At least this way, she still retained her job.
"And I gather you're curious as to who my partner is." Lise continued, remembering that Yuko had asked something to that degree earlier. "Well, I suppose I'd best make it clear to you now we're both in the know. Akio, or should I say, Ark, please come in, and then power down your holosuit?"
The eager teaching assistant obeyed, making sure the doors were closed before the young man transformed down into an orange dinosaur wearing a white labcoat and a square academic cap.
"Himura-san, this is my digimon partner, Ark." Lise said, and would wait for her reaction. Ark gave a nervous grin and a wave through his oversized sleeve.
“It can’t be more embarrassing than my own story!” Yuko snickered, before letting her teacher proceed with her story. A Digitama hatching in the middle of her classroom indeed sounded like a huge pickle. Luckily, Lise’s own students turned out to have been Tamers, so no harm, no foul. “See, things didn’t turn out so bad after all. I guess I’ll have to meet the rest of your Chosen students at some point… including those that are Digimon.”
One had to wonder why there were apparently so many Chosen people in Yuko’s age group. Maybe there was something about their school specifically that drew the magical digi-gnomes - or whoever it was that handed Digivices to humans?
No use mulling it over! It was time to meet Lise-sensei’s partner… or rather to re-meet them, since it turned out to have been her assistant Akio-san the whole time! The punk girl got off her seat and crouched on her knees to get to Ark’s eye level. “An Agumon that’s also a professor… That’s so fitting! Jokah said that some Agumon get involved with academia, but I didn’t believe him. Nice to meet the real you!” She said, extending her fist towards Ark. Hopefully the academic Agumon would be educated in what a ‘fist bump’ was.
When Yuko mentioned meeting the other chosen in her class, Lise looked up to the ceiling in thought, raising a finger to her mouth as she pondered. Perhaps she should actively encourage the chosen students she taught to keep together, rather than keep all of this an unspeakable secret? Of course if she did do that, then that could cause a lot of ethical problems as well. She'd have to think about that carefully.
"That's a good point, Himura-san. I'll have to consider that situation carefully though." she replied, gently. "Personally I think it'd be wonderful for us chosen and our partners to meet up in confidentiality, but, remember, there's some heavy forces out there that are watching out for us. DATS in particular, if you've heard of them."
When Ark revealed his true form, Lise was somewhat glad to see that Yuko took it fairly well, going as far as offering a fistbump. Ark grinned, curled his claws and bumped his fist against hers. He had learned enough about humans to recognize this gesture as something of a casual, masculine greeting.
"Thanks! Good to meet you in full as well." Ark replied, grinning. He then turned to Lise. "So, uh, not to rush you or anything, but, it is getting a bit late, you know?"
Lise agreed with this thought at once. "Alright then, Himura-san. I think perhaps we could maybe conclude this meeting here and call it a resolved matter? Of course, I'd like to settle some further questions in future, but, I think for today's purposes, we've resolved an immediate problem of misunderstanding, would you agree?"
Before this meeting, Lise had been completely unaware that Yuko had been a Chosen. Now that she was aware, much of the problems of her academia were now illuminated, and that gave Lise some relief in that she could maybe be of help going forward. While she wanted to assist more thoroughly, alas, the bureaucracy of Shibuya High was a thing, and Lise couldn't risk her job over bypassing it.
This day certainly hadn’t gone as she had expected. Between finding out that one of her teachers was a Chosen, and that many of her other students were also Chosen, Yuko felt like she had just made a bunch of potential allies. On top of that, Lise was actually very nice and didn’t scold her in the slightest for being so lousy at school. She had more questions for her, but alas, Akio/Ark pointed out that they should get going.
“Yeah, that sounds fair.” The Himura girl nodded in agreement. Granted, they hadn’t specifically addressed what Yuko needed to do in order to do better at school and for her grades to start improving, but she had gotten off the hook, so she couldn’t complain.
Before leaving the teacher’s office she had gotten called into, the young delinquent turned on her heel and bowed respectfully before the older woman. “Thank you for everything, Sensei. We’ll keep in touch.”
Genuine respect for an adult not related to her by blood… Today really was full of surprises!
