”Lets see here…”
Chalice let out a soft sigh and looked over the clipboard that she had brought with her. Sixer was sitting in front of her, hands resting on her lap and staring quietly at the mastemon. They had been seeing one another on the regular; mostly for appearance sake but today seemed a bit different. Progress maybe?
”You’ve been sticking to the diet I asked you to?”
That I have doctor.
”Hmm… A field-test is probably in order sometime soon. One where I can have someone i trust monitor you without interruption Tsk tsk…”
Chalice sighed a bit and paced briefly; reading over more of the information on the clipboard, flipping a few pages and frowning. She had almost forgotten about the whole crystal nonsense. She’d sigh again and wave at sixer to leave for a moment…
”Go wait in the lobby, I have to finish some tweaks for a project. Crystal reverb barriers… tch you think this tech grows on trees…”
...Yes doctor.
Chalice mumbled to herself, leaving a somewhat confused looking meicrackmon leaving to go sit in the lobby she had just come from. She didn’t really have much planned for today; some patrols of the area around sanctuary and some light reading but… That’s just how life was for her now.
Chalice on the other hand? She had to send a message to a very particular blackgatomon about the barriers. Stating that they’d be ready for pick up and delivery pretty shortly. And that she’d even have some assistance in setting them up this time around! The last three times X-00 was supposed to help but his maintenance always seemed to come around at just the wrong times…
That being said, at least they wouldn’t have an issue finding the Scientist’s office; given that it had been moved to be under closer surveillance by the district directors. They still had an issue trusting her given her connections but… such was the price of success.

Syre: Thank you. The ones at the practice arena seem to break all the time with how hard the wolf uses them.
The light joke aside, this was honestly just a normal field trip for the BlackGatomon - and one that was often trivialized by her having an infini-store. She knew Chalice personally, or at least the closest of any of the guild members, so it often came to her to pick up any odds and ends that they ordered from the odd scientist. It worked out to be cheaper than normal means, and with how closely Chalice was being watched by Terminus, everything was usually nice and above-board. And hey, today they'd even have an extra hand with moving stuff around!
It didn't take long for Syre to take a portal to the office. She gave a quick knock on the front door, and pressed her way inside, nodding to the eccentric scientist at the desk. There was a nice, big smile on her face as she made her way inside. "Thanks for taking the time to push up this project. Iko's been getting rather 'rough' with his other practice partners since he has to be so 'gentle' with the fox. Same deal as usual?"

”Well if he followed standard tuning procedure they should at least last him a few months with this batch…”
Chalice couldn’t help but snort at that particular joke; she knew how the knights were. She knew how a lot of the people that fought were actually. Especially those with access to arenas. She’d tap away at one of the barrier links, it needed a frequency adjustment and it should be good… but then there was also the case of the ‘base’ link which was being a bit fussy.
It wasn’t a surprise that chalice was under close watch and by terminus of all groups. Hell her AI counterpart hadn’t seen the light of day since the start of this mess and she really wanted to get her hands on them. She’d flick her eyes up to syre who had given the door a knock. A small smile crossing her face; if the knights were to be reliable bunch maybe someday they could help her get her place back at the lab and maybe even that AI! Someday… not soon though.
”The fox? I was under the assumption that Silence graduated from fox to wolf. Unless you all have another member I’m unaware about. And no problem, the amount of work that terminus pushes on me is silly, ranging from keeping track of the members in sanctuary to working on their pet projects. You wouldn’t believe the sort of things they have me do…”
Chalice shifted and pressed a button on her desk; the phone light shifting from red to green. She’d clear her throat and then speak; seeming a little unsure why she even sent sixer out of the office if syre was so quick to come in!
”Sixer? If you could the knight is here, uh. The one you’ll be helping.”
Honestly how was she supposed to really say it any more awkwardly? It didn’t take long before the door syre had just walked through was pushed open again. The clacking of sixer’s feet was easy to hear even from a distance but perhaps it wasn’t so strange that it wasn’t exactly something everyone would pay heed to. The meicrackmon variant ducked her head as she stepped in and paused upon seeing syre.
”...”

At Chalice's opening comment, Syre found herself rolling her eyes. "Really, you need to look outside the lab a bit more, Chalice. Silence had twins, and one of 'em is already practicing with the Knights." Keeping that smile on her face, the feline gave a shrug.
"Eh, busy work is busy work, and keeps the funding rolling in. I mean, I'm not going to pretend these barriers are the most 'inventive' work, either - hm?" Oh, right, the help! Syre was used to Chalice calling her employees by code names, so the odd name 'Sixer' didn't raise any alarms or familiarity from the feline. It wasn't until the figure came in, that Syre found herself blink.
... Syre recognized her. It took a moment, but Chalice wouldn't miss that 'flash of realization' in Syre's eyes, seeing the MeiCrackmon. Still clad in the parts grafted into her - and perhaps even barely realizing that it was 'Syre' who was there. And it probably came as no surprise that Syre shot a small glare in Chalice's direction.
Right. Right. Calm, stay centered. She gave a friendly smile towards the MeiCrackmon.
"... You remember me?"

”Look I’d love to, but from one project to the next they’re keeping me on an extremely tight schedule. If it wasn’t for Malganoth I wouldn’t even have an office, it’d be bars and some suppression shackles or collar. And really huh? She gonna join you think? What about the other one?”
Chalice adjusted one final thing and then let out a huff; the frequency needed tuning again and so she’d set about doing that on the third one since it didn’t seem to match the others. She’d pause while punching in numbers and glanced towards syre.
”They’re not inventive but they at least sell well. And they’re at least keeping the crystal stuff from spreading further while we figure out how to reverse it for inanimate objects. You’d think it’d be easier than doing it to living mons but noooo...”
Chalice huffed again and adjusted the frequency again; grinning as she found the right one and set them to resonate with one another for a brief moment. A small flicker of a data stream between each ‘pole’ and the mastemon looked up.
Syre’s flash of recognition; that glare and all the mastemon could do was give a small unapologetic shrug. It was inevitable that syre would meet sixer and if anything… the two of them would get along fairly well she felt. That and sixer needed to stop ‘moping’ in sanctuary…
Sixer on the other hand? She recognized the blackgatomon only from seeing her very briefly; it was burned into her memories. The impmon. The human. The dinosaur. The mastemon. Then it was just a blur of faces. She’d rub at her face with a hand and upon that question sixer would slowly nod.
Being able to communicate with syre was going to be difficult. Sixer looked hesitant for a moment but drew out a tablet. She’d hook a small cable to the back of her neck and text would immediately start scrolling across it; allowing for her to ‘speak’ in a way.
”It’s not hard. You’re one of the first faces I remember seeing. Chalice. Some human. Some impmon. Some dinosaur. After that it’s just blurs and my sisters. I don’t… I was never told your name but I’d recognize you anywhere.
”To be fair, telling you her name at the time would have been counterproductive. Given that you were still a mush of memories and-”
”Doctor that’s quite enough. I don’t care for excuses.”
Chalice gulped a little bit and adjusted her glasses, giving a small nod of understanding before going back to tweaking the barrier links. She was almost done but sixer had one last thing to do. She’d offer her hand to syre and a pair of words scrolled across the screen of the tablet.
”Thank you.”

Honestly, Syre didn't know what she wanted to think about the situation right now. Her initial reaction was, more-or-less, just a twist in her heart or her gut about the situation. But to Sixer, she kept a smile, and stayed gentle with the MeiCrackmon in front of her.
She could only speak in scrolling text, but that alone was enough for Syre to give a smile. She was remembered, even if the cat never gave the MeiCrackmon her name. Her ear flicked at Chalice's response, but unlike Sixer, Chalice ignored it:
"Well, then let's get off on the right foot, then? My name is 'Syre'." And for the purposes of that screen, she'd also spell it out in Digital Script as well. Chalice had a bit more adjusting to do on the barrier devices, so Sixer had all of her attention.
... And with those last two words? Syre would gently put her hand in the black MeiCrackmon's, and gave a nod.
"You're welcome. I'm glad to see that you're doing this well - honestly, I was worried for all of the Digimon trapped in that lab. But, it's nice to see you on your own two feet."

Sixer was for the most part the last bit of what remained of vivian; so the heart-twisting and the entire mission that had led up to her discovery probably rang strangely for the black-gatomon. Sixer didn’t have a clue about the relationship syre had with one but it was a nice feeling that someone didn’t run off screaming or stare at her for too long for once.
”It’s nice meeting you syre. But as you heard… My name is sixer.”
A slight shift in her brow and a gentle stretching of the mask over her face indicated the the mon had given the other a small smile. Hearing that they were happy to hear they were doing well only made sixer bow her head ever so slightly.
”Well the ones that had families to go home to went home and the clones are all well taken care of out in sanctuary. And thanks, it’s still taking a bit of getting used to. My balance keeps on trying to revert to when I had… well not guns for legs.”
Sixer shook her head; she’d be chuckling if she could but! This was somewhat of a serious affair and it was probably for the best that she wasn’t able to do so. There was a small but firm shake before sixer retracted her hand.
So where are we taking these? I was told I’d be helping but not where they’d be going.”
Sixer adjusted herself and shot a look over to chalice who was fiddling with the last one again. She seemed somewhat pleased and sixer could only narrow her eyes ever so slightly. It took a lot to trust this scientist; a lot to trust that they weren’t just using the readings on sixer to do something else… elsewhere.

"Well, nice to meet you, Sixer."
Syre kept that smile on her face. After the initial shock, it seemed that the cat had more-or-less mellowed out, blinking curiously at Sixer's comment. "The rest of them too... well. Hopefully they have luck adjusting back to that." Syre meant that - there were some that were even further gone than Sixer, some of which were clones, but potentially some that were not. And the grafts were definitely a serious affair, not something that Syre wanted to laugh at.
"Oh, right - effectively, they're just going 'down the hall." Syre tapped at a portal device at her waist. "Just up to the Knights' base, in the storage area. I'll show you where we're dropping them off - got a whole corner set up to drop 'em off."
With that, Syre would briefly turn back to a more casual tone. But... really, what could she say here?
"... Let's push back all the 'stuff' that happened. Before all that, Sixer - who were you?"

”It’ll take some time; but i have faith that they’ll be all right in the end.”
Sixer felt her core flutter a bit and she couldn’t help but inwardly sigh; some of those clones would never be better. Just mindless drones for the better part. Chalice herself had stated that the damage was incredibly deep and that working on them would take a huge amount of resources. Resources she didn’t have. So the ‘worst’ of them were sleeping while they figured out how to reverse the damage to their personalities and memories. If they had any to start with.
Sixer cocked her head to one side; knights? There were knights in the digital world? That made the meicrackmon blink slowly and she’d rub at one of her ears. So they were going to some knight base? That sounded… wait why would knights need barriers even?
”Knights? You’re a knight? A knight of what? You don’t look like a royal knight.”
Her answer was pretty clear on where they were taking them; she’d tilt her head… To hear that question. Before all that happened? She’d rub at her chin. Who was sixer? She’d furrow her brow and glance at chalice who was still kneedeep in her barrier nonsense. She’d be no help and sixer couldn’t help but fidget.
”I… know that I sang. I know… my name was vivian. But… that didn’t seem right to keep the name. I think… I was a popstar or something? I… don’t really remember a whole lot past that.”
Sixer looked visibly pained as she was trying to remember what exactly he did. She could remember bright lights, flashing and a lot of loud music that went with her songs… but there wasn’t much past that. She couldn’t remember who she performed for, how popular she was… or if she had any siblings or who even her father was.
”It… was kind of nice.”

"Oh, sorry - went about that a bit more casually than I should have." Syre gave a small chuckle, scratching the back of her head as she read that monitor. "I'm a 'Knight of the Rose'. Not a Royal Knight - rather, we're acting as assistants and mercenaries for the purposes of protecting the Digital World. Which, yes, includes dismantling those sorts of laboratories."
That was about the best that Syre could explain it off-hand. As Chalice wrapped up getting those barrier machines fine-tuned, the feline continued to listen to the Mei's story. Her name, before it was 'Sixer', was Vivian - and she was a singer.
A singer. A singer. Who now lacked vocal cords and was turned into what looked like an incomplete war machine. As Sixer nostalgically looked to the past, Syre found herself looking at the consequences of the present. Where Sixer found herself in a new form, even ashamed of her previous name.
She liked who she was - or even who she thought she was. And Syre? Well, she simply said it how she thought it was:
"If... if it could be more than just a memory or a dream, would you want to go back to it?"

”It’s all right, not really a topic that can be broached on without some floundering. Lord knows you’re doing a better job than chalice does.”
Sixer shook her head and then raised a brow; a knight of the rose? She hadn’t heard of them before. Assistants and mercenaries for the purpose of protecting the digital world? She liked how that sounded and honestly hoped for the best in regards with all of that.
”Well. It’s nice knowing you all are out there doing that. Would make a lot of people sleep easier I feel.”
Sixer sat there quietly’ the little bit that she could remember of her previous life was… well as she put it? Nice. The flashing lights and the feeling of content laced every memory. Even if it hurt to think about all of them. But it was a pipe dream for her; she didn’t have a voice and couldn’t sing to people looking like this.
But then hearing what syre had to say? What she had to ask? If that memory or dream could be more than that? Would she go back to it. Sixer sat there processing the question and inevitably rubbed at her face with a hand.
”I… don’t know. I think I would like to try someday. But it’s… I can’t talk and singing takes much more than just saying words. You put your heart and soul into it. And as I am I don’t have much of any of that.”
There was a soft exhalation of air; almost like a sigh but not quite. She couldn’t even really make sounds. The meicrackmon wrung her hands and gave a small shake of her head.
”I don’t know if it’d be fair to the ones I’m protecting if I just up and left to chase a dream like that. Wouldn’t be fair to them to have to struggle on their own.”
Sixer shifted and started to pick up the varied smaller barrier links. She didn’t know how to continue off of that and chalice wasn’t stopping her so… It wasn’t hard for her to carry everything and have her tablet sit where syre could still read it if she wanted to. Chalice on the other hand looked now extremely bored and was just merely staring at the two. She wasn't going to put her own opinion in all of this. She knew sixer would just glare at her again if she weighed in...
"Yeah that's all of them... Same account then?"

Perhaps Syre shouldn't have put Sixer on the spot so quickly.
It was natural for her not to know, of course. With what Syre knew about the lab, it was impossible to know if Sixer even was this 'Vivian', or if she was a clone of her - or, perhaps 'Vivian' was simply a construct of a dream that she had while suspended in one of the laboratory's storage tubes. But it was clear that there was some longing for something more, something 'bigger', and that she felt chained to her current position.
"... No-one's saying you have to abandon them to pursue it." Syre moved to grab a box of her own, after opening a portal up in the hall. It was really as simple as stepping halfway through the portal, setting down the device, and stepping back to get another one. "And I'm not saying you even have to do what you did before. I'm sure you already know this, but maybe it'll help to hear it from someone on the outside."
"... You're 'you'. Whether its Vivian, or Sixer, or whatever you want to call yourself. All I want you to do is believe that you can be whatever you want - regardless of your current condition."

Sixer didn’t truly know the answers to the things that syre was asking her, she didn’t know what she really wanted to do. She knew that the singing and happy days that were behind her were something that she looked fondly upon. But she also knew that… Well that a lot of it she couldn’t even think if it was hers or not. It was frustrating to her and yes she felt like she was chained to her current position but there was a part of her that… well liked the freedom she was given.
Then… how could I support them while doing that? They need a leader and I don’t think a pop star singer could...
Sixer huffed a bit and then stopped herself; she flicked her ears forward as the other continued on. So she didn’t need to do what she did before, she didn’t need to abandon them and she… was her regardless of her being vivian or sixer. Whatever she wanted to call herself. Maybe… maybe the goal wasn’t so much to become who she was but was to become someone she could be proud of?
I think sixer is a moniker I can be comfortable with. I think vivian is the goal of what I want to be. I… don’t know what I want to be. I don’t think I ever really thought about it like that way.
She’d set down another box and mull it over, looking unsure of herself for the first time that Syre would have lain eyes on her. The furrowing of the brow; the splaying of ears; it was far too reminiscent of another. She’d roll her shoulders and continue on; moving those boxes. The tablet jostled to remind their ‘owner’ that they were still connected.
”So lets say I wanted to be a singer. But I wanted to be a fighter too. How do you think I’d go about that?
Maybe it was less of a ‘how’ and more ‘when’ than anything else. Sixer was already a fighter born and bred and the grafts would only make her more than she ever was. Dangerous to a degree that would be insulting to some but worrying to others.

Syre wasn't going to pretend that this was going to be easy.
Far from it. Reaching for your dreams and your goals was a long and arduous task, and looking for the answers to questions such as 'who am I' was often a frightening thing. Syre wasn't perfect at it herself, and she was hardly a deep font of wisdom that could be drawn upon for all of the answers. But what Syre did know was that it could be done - and there was no reason for Sixer to abandon her dreams and happiness because of the current circumstances. Perhaps the world would be unfair and block the MeiCrackmon at every turn...
... But wasn't it better to try?
"Figuring out who you are, or want to be, is not an easy thing. But its something that you have to keep in mind." It was natural to be unsure at this point, and Sixer's next question was a curious one. What if she wanted to be a singer and a fighter?
"That's... hm." Setting down the box, Syre would cross her arms, thinking it over. Putting the hypothetical aside, what was the practical way to go about it? "... Its a bit of a tone shift, but I guess the first step would be to seek professional opinion about how you can get your voice back. Once you know the details on that, it would be a measure of weighing the 'cost and risk' versus how important it really is to you."
Syre blinked, gave a sigh, and shook her head.
"I really, really wish this could be any easier for you."

Sixer didn’t know how difficult it truly would be to pursue her dreams; how much she would have to work on every little thing. She knew how rough it was as it is and how she was. She was already used to the world viewing her unkindly and in fear given the state of things. But that didn’t stop her from operating now… so why would it stop her from reaching out?
”That sounds so corny, did you read that in a fortune cookie?”
Sixer couldn’t laugh but there was obvious mirth in the words; her eyes had softened a bit and was there a small tug of a smile behind that mask? Sixer tilted her head to one side as syre seemed to consider her question. So seeking out a professional opinion to how to get her voice back? She’d turn her head to where chalice was resting, still fiddling with one of the last barrier bits.
”...I have a doctor scientist at my disposal, but I can’t say that I trust her entirely. Maybe it’d be better to reach out to less… questionable sources about it. And how important it is to me huh? That’s one way of saying it…”
Sixer found herself musing over this last bit and simply stood there, hands on the box and hearing syre speak again… She wished it was easier for her? Sixer gave a small shake of her head.
”Anything worth doing and worth pursuing is never easy. My sisters would agree with me there and I think they’d want to see me work towards this. I think… if I was able to become a singer they’d find their own paths and be able to look up to me.”
It had finally clicked after a little bit and she’d furrow her brow; there was a lot of work to be done. A lot of things she’d have to work on. How would she approach this? She felt that the biggest hurdle right now was her appearance and not the fact that she had no voice…
”I think another issue is my appearance; I don’t exactly think it screams ‘pop star’. Well... unless you're into cowboys and guns...”
