For once, Airi hadn't been kidnapped and brought into the Digital World. No, it was just a little more sinister than that. She had just gotten home from one of her wanderings where she heard a knock on the door. And when she answered, it was none other than her trusty sociopathic partner waiting on the other side with a smile.
"Good evening, dear child of mine!" Sable greeted the nine year old with a smile. Airi blinked in surprise for a moment, then immediately went to slam the door in her face. Sadly, the nun Digimon was quite a bit tougher than she looked, and she held her hand out and stopped the door in its tracks. "Oh, you should know better than to try that, my little mascot! It's been ages since we last met!"
"And I'd prefer it if it were ages more," Airi answered coldly. "What do you want?" Through the open door a corgi came running through and immediately began nibbling at Airi's ankles. She had to kick the dog away but it only encouraged the damned mutt to try harder. "And I see you brought your lapdog,"
"Oh, Chihaya is just showing her affection, little one!" Sable stated with a smile. "We've been watching you for a while now so she just wants to say hello!"
"Wait, what do you mean you've been watching me?" Airi asked after a moment's hesitation. Sable being sneaky never seemed like a good thing.
"Well, my dear child, it's clear that you want nothing to do with me, and it would be plain brutish of me to take you to the Digital World by force-"
"Not that it's ever stopped you before."
"So I wanted to have a little leverage from now on!" She finished as if Airi never interrupted. She reached into a pouch on her person and handed Airi a few photographs. One showed Airi picking a lock in the Greater Shibuya area. It was clear that the little girl was up to no good. Another was one of Airi pulling her hand out of a businessman's pocket, wallet in hand.
"What is... How did you...?" Airi was a little surprised that Sable had taken such impressive photos, honestly. They were more than a little damning for her.
"And if you turn them around, you'll see your name, address, and school written down on the back, sweet child!" Sable added. "I'm sure that you wouldn't be punished too severely because you're such a small child, but if my information, your grandfather is paying for your apartment, correct? And your father is currently spending time in prison? I don't think he'd appreciate having his precious little granddaughter engaging in such criminal activities! And to think what would happen to you at school! There wouldn't be a school around that could trust such a larcenous little cretin!"
Airi gave Sable a cold stare for a solid minute while the Sistermon continued on with her gentle smile. "What do you want, then?"

~Present Time~
Airi didn't really get the whole "beauty of nature" thing. Looking at the lake around her, all she saw was a giant body of dirty water. And the ground she stood on was wet and squishy, and her socks were already soaking wet. Sable could have at least told her to wear some boots or something, but she either didn't care or just wanted Airi to be miserable as she was blackmailed into coming to the Digital World once again.
And as Airi felt the sweltering heat that was building up all around her, the little girl had to debate the pros and cons of juvie. It may very well beat having to follow Sable pretty much anywhere. "How much longer are we gonna be walking, and why the hell are we in here in the first place?" Airi asked in annoyance. Sable turned around and held up a finger to her mouth.
"Stay quiet, little mascot," She whispered back, leaning down to Airi's level. "We're here because a group of rather aggressive thugs have been claiming this area as their own for some time. Now that we have your little soldier boy, your pet bird, and Chihaya, we're going to convince them that this isn't the best place to set up their little organization."
Airi stopped in her tracks. "Wait, so we're... taking on... some... Digimon yakuza?"
"Hardly," Sable answered quietly. "As far as I know, it's only a group of two, maybe three Champion-level Digimon. They're more a group of hooligans that have been plaguing the passersby. And by plaguing I mean robbing."
"I see," Airi noted. Still, something wasn't right. "So I guess my next question is... why are you getting involved in all of this? Something tells me you don't give a damn about some small-time muggers near a lake?"
"It's a bayou, child, and I don't care about it so much as I care about the bandits themselves," Sable explained. "They've avoided capture for some time, so perhaps they might have some skills that could prove useful to me."
"So you're gonna pick a fight with them to what... test them?"
"Essentially. We should be able to have the upper hand with that little toy of yours," Sable pointed towards the Digivice around Airi's neck. "So if they're too weak or uninteresting, then we can simply dispose of them and be hailed as heroes by the locals. If they can prove to be useful, however, then that means you're going to have yet another friend!"
"...Wonderful..." Airi muttered. "As if you needed any more thugs..." She looked over towards Chihaya, still in her holosuit form. Tank treads and soft, muggy ground didn't mix so well, after all.
"Silence, child!" Sable whispered, stilling her movement. Airi did the same, focusing on her surroundings. She didn't see anything, but she could hear the sound of... was that metal clashing against each other? It sounded just like a swordfight you'd hear in the movies. "That's the sound of a battle," She explained while her mouth crept into a smile. "It seems we may have more of an upper hand than I thought!"

As it turns out, sneaking up on someone in the middle of a battle was surprisingly easy. That was good information for the little girl to have, especially since sneaking up on someone meant you could sneak away as well. Which was something Airi would have rather done. Yet at Sable's insistence, she, the Sistermon, and the holosuited Tankmon all hid behind some brush as they approached a pair clashing swords.
"Ya-sha! Ya-sha! Ya-sha!" A lizardman-like creature garbed in some kind of kendo garb yelled out, holding a wooden sword in either hand and making a swing after every syllable.
"Yasyamon," Sable explained without Airi needing to ask. "Those blades may be wooden, but they're still sharp, nonetheless. He's also one of the problematic Digimon I told you about."
"And the other one?" Airi asked. She looked at the Yasyamon's opponent, a significantly shorter figure wrapped in a brown cloak, deflecting each swing from the opponent with a single white katana.
"Most likely an outsider and potential victim," Sable noted, narrowing her eyes on the cloaked figure. "But their movements... they're narrowly avoiding each of the Yasyamon's swings while staying close in order to counterattack. They're likely waiting for Yasyamon to tire out and strike when his guard is down, and the fool's just buying into it. It almost reminds me of..." Sable's eyes widened in a stunned realization, and for the first time Airi thought she saw a sense of dread in her partner.
"Sable... you know who that is?" Airi asked in an attempt to break her partner's silence. It seemed to work as Sable looked down towards the little girl.
"Child, we need to get out of here, now!" She insisted, stepping backwards and attempting to retreat. Yet her footstep wasn't silent, and in a flash the cloaked figure spun around and threw a white dagger over towards Sable's direction. As they did so, Airi caught a glimpse of the creature underneath the cloak. White robes, similar in design yet contrasted to Sable's black robes, with a sky-blue hood with a mouse motif as opposed to Sable's black cat design. Whoever this creature was, she was clearly related to Sable in some way.
"Damn it!" Sable cursed aloud, pulling out her guns and deflecting the other Sistermon's dagger with their cross-shaped handles. Then she gripped them tightly and aimed them towards the other combatants.
"You're mine now!" Yasyamon yelled out as his opponent turned around to attack Sable. He dove forward and raised both his swords into the air.
"Damn it all!" Sable repeated, unloading her bullets towards the diving Yasyamon. They weren't enough to deal much damage to the Champion level, but they were more than enough of a distraction for his other opponent. She continued the momentum of the spin she did to attack Sable to a full three-sixty degrees, reversed the grip of her katana, and sliced towards the distracted Yasyamon.
"Azure Fang Style - White Clover Horizontal Slash!" She announced for no particular reason, doing a one-eighty to turn her back towards the Yasyamon as a massive cut went across his belly. He screamed out in agony as he clutched his wound and ran off into the murky brushes beyond.
"Th-this isn't over!" He yelled out as he made his escape. But the other Sistermon didn't seem to care.
"It's good to see you again, Sable!" She simply stated with a calm smile as she sheathed her blade. Sable remained quiet for a minute, the reached down to pick up the blade that she got attacked with, and threw it back towards the other Sistermon, pointy-end first. She simply caught it with two fingers before hiding it back into her sleeve.
"Yes. It's so good to see you again, sister!"

Airi never really experienced a family reunion before, but she had a feeling that this one was particularly awkward. Sable, never one for remaining quiet when she could hear own voice instead didn't utter a peep while the Sistermon's sister didn't quite know what to say.
"So... who's the child?" The Sistermon Ciel asked out of the blue, gesturing to Airi.
"Oh, this is... Well..." Yeesh. If Sable was going to be the one doing the talking, then this was going to take forever. And Sable mention that Yasyamon had allies?
"Hi there!" Airi called out with a wide, sunny smile. Sable wasn't acting right, so she figured she should perhaps put on her act as well. "I'm Hirano Airi-chan, but you can call me Airi! Me and Sable are partners! We got a Digivice and everything, see?" She help up her black and silver Xros Loader so the Sistermon Ciel could get a good look at it.
"I see, so that kind of stuff happened to you..." She muttered somberly, suddenly shaking her head. "But never mind that, I haven't introduced myself yet!" She walked over and held out her hand, kneeling down to Airi's level. Airi shook it, and noticed that the Sistermon's grip was firm, yet surprisingly gentle. "I'm Azura! Sable probably never bothered to mention me, but we're twin sisters! It's nice to meet you, Airi-chan!"
Come to think of it, Airi did recall Sable spinning some kind of story about having a couple sisters in the past. One of them died, and she went her separate ways from the other one. "Actually, she did mention that she had a couple of sisters before, but she didn't really go into any detail..." Airi pondered innocently. The little girl saw a chance. Sable had some dirt on Airi, but meeting her twin sister was an opportunity to get some dirt on Sable. Leverage was only as good so long as no one else had any on you, after all.
"Yeah, we did. Her name was Ivori..." Azura confirmed, her head down in solemn remembrance. But she lifted her head up and walked over towards Sable, patting her sister on the shoulder. "But it looks like you were able to move on and finally find something for yourself! I'm proud of you, sis!" Her face was still sad, but she forced a smile nonetheless. Then she looked around and said. "That bandit will probably bring some reinforcements soon. We should change locations before catching up!"

Azura had led them to a deeper section in the woods. She said it was a more secluded section... though how a section of the forest would be more secluded than another escaped Airi. But still, no one seemed to bother them as they set up a camp for the night. It wasn't much longer than the group shared a meal, and sat around a campfire.
"Eh? Sable really did such a thing!?" Airi exclaimed, so surprised that she almost dropped her innocent little girl voice.
"Yep! She wrote up a whole thirty-page document in why I should be banned from the temple, and everything!" Azura confirmed with a grin.
"It was not thirty pages!" Sable protested, grabbing the Sistermon Ciel's ear and yanking as hard as she could. "It was one page, written up as per HolyAngemon's orders!" Azura let out a gasp as she suddenly grabbed Sable's wrist and pulled her into an armlock.
"Still, want kind of sick, twisted person tries to evict her own twin sister?" She asked with a playful smile, bending Sable's arm further back. But out of toughness or sheer stubbornness, the Sistermon Noir refused to relent.
"Maybe if you weren't such a slob, then I wouldn't have tried to take such drastic measures!" Sable countered in a pained voice. It was clear she wasn't going to be breaking out of her sibling's grip any time soon. "Do you know how difficult it is to keep your living quarters tidy, only to have your third be so messy your trash spills over to my side?"
"Oh, come on, it wasn't that bad! I cleaned it up every now and then, remember?" Azura loosened her grip on Sable's arm, letting her sister pull free. Sable looked like she was going to punch the Sistermon Ciel in response, but she thought better of it this time.
"Twice. You cleaned it up twice during our entire childhood! Ivori was the one that cleaned up after your messes the rest of the time!" Sable stated, pointing towards Azura with an accusatory glare.
"Yeah, well, that's twice more than you ever cleaned up my room!" Azura countered.
"And why the hell should I have ever cleaned your room for you!?" Sable shot back in a near hysterical voice.
Meanwhile, Airi couldn't help but marvel at Sable's complete change in personality. She always exuded a false persona, to be sure, but Airi had always thought that the Sable underneath was just some cold, calculating sociopath that only ever saw other people as tools. But seeing her with her sibling, she was showing more emotion than she had ever shown before, even when she was going over-the-top grandiose statements.
But what was with the sudden change? Sable acted so different around her sister than she did with literally everyone else... was this the effect that family had on you? Airi... couldn't really answer that question. It wasn't like she ever had the experience herself. So Airi huddled closer to the campfire, curling up into a ball and watching the two siblings bicker and argue. Azura had a mocking grin while Sable continuously scowled, but Airi could tell that the two of them her hiding smiles underneath it all.
It was enough to make the little girl jealous. Just a bit. WC 2550/3000

Airi didn't remember when she had fallen asleep, but when she woke up the morning sun was glaring directly through her eyelids. And as she stirred, she rolled to her side, only to roll onto something and hear a sharp yelp. Chihaya, still in her corgi form growled angrily and bit the little girl's hand.
"Sheesh, I'm sorry, okay?" Airi yelled, bopping the disguised Tankmon on the nose before her jaws finally relented their grip. "Dick..." She muttered, standing up and looking around. Sable seemed to still be asleep, while Azura was nowhere to be found. She supposed the Sistermon Ciel was just an early riser, or something. Either way, Airi had only one thought on her mind. She needed to use the bathroom.
She wouldn't be caught dead just going in the woods, though. Not when there were birds, bugs, and even the fucking trees could be sentient. She wasn't sure about what kind of public indecency laws there were in the Digital World, but she would rather not be put on some list somewhere marking her as a pervert. But she thought she passed a public restroom in the middle of the woods earlier. Why it was there of all places she didn't know, but she wasn't going to complain. She had Sarge and BLU-J on standby, so she could probably make the trip on her own.
So as she wandered to where she thought she came from, she couldn't help but overhear a conversation from afar.
"Sorry to bug you, missy, but you that little human and other Sistermon looked like they needed a rest. I sure would hate to bother them when they're trying to sleep like that!" Airi didn't recognize the voice, but managed to get a peek. The Yasyamon from earlier was standing there, alongside a few other imposing-looking Digimon. One looked like a black bird-looking creature holding two short swords. Another looked like a round, armor-clad creature holding two rapiers. While the last one, and the one speaking, looked like some kind of demonic, hairy samurai.
Suddenly Airi felt a hand grasp her shoulder. Sable suddenly stood beside her, staring at the scene playing out. "Musyamon, Gladimon, and Karatenmon..." She pointed towards the respective Digimon, but did nothing else.
"And you won't get a chance to. This is your whole posse, right?" Azura didn't look in the least bit intimidated, despite being outnumbered. "I figured if I waited around a bit I'd be able to take you all down at once, so I let this guy escape," She jerked her thumb over towards Yasyamon's general direction.
"You're pretty cocky, aren't you?" Musyamon asked with a chuckle. "But look around you. Maybe you're stronger than any one of us, but it's still our seven blades you your one!" Each one pointed their weapons toward the white-clad Sistermon. WC: 3020/3000

Despite Azura clearly being outnumbered, Airi stared at Sable, who did nothing but watch as her sister was swarmed by the four sword-wielding Digimon. Yet she could still see a strange look on her face. Was Sable actually concerned for someone else's well-being?
Well, it would have to wait. The Digimon that Azura fought previously, Yasyamon, charged forward, swinging its two wooden swords haphazardly. Azura stood there until the very last second, and like a flash of lightning she deflected the Digimon's two blades with a single swipe of her blade. But that was what her enemies wanted. In an instant the round, armored Gladimon rolled forward and stabbed at her legs with his two rapiers. But it seemed like the Sistermon Ciel predicted something of the sort as well. She broke her stance, stepping back away from Gladimon's attacks, but that was where her luck ran out. The black-feathered Digimon with two short swords, Karetenmon, swooped in and dug its blades into her back. Azura let out a short scream of pain before regaining her focus and twisting her body to swing at the black bird Digimon. It looked like the swing would have split the Champion-level in two, but Musyamon rushed in, swinging his katana and blocking the Sistermon's swing.
Karetenmon flew back to a safe distance while Musyamon retreated as well. Azura found herself surrounded once more with nothing to show for the previous exchange, save for a couple of stab wounds.
"Damn it, Azura... Don't die like this...!" Airi heard her partner mutter under her breath.
This time it was Gladimon to approach first. He despite his short and stocky build, he moved in liquid, almost serpentine motions, and was poised to strike. Azura raised her blade to defend herself, but at the last second the silver sword Digimon jumped back in a feint as Karatenmon attacked from behind once more. But Sable's sis wasn't a complete fool.
"Not this time, bastard!" She yelled out, driving her elbow back and slamming it into the bird Digimon's beak. He let out a yelp of shock and pain, but the Sistermon wasn't prepared for Yasyamon and Musyamon to close in at once. The three blades struck out at once, slicing up the Sistermon up pretty good. She let out a pained scream as she staggered, but still stood strong. She swung her blade wildly, and the two cautious Digimon jumped back.
"You can tell how this is going to go, right?" Airi turned to Sable in a fierce whisper. "They're just gonna wear her out until she finally goes down! Unless someone shows up and evens the numbers a bit!"
Sable was quiet for a moment before answering, "It's easier this way. She'd be an obstacle to me in the future, anyway..." But still, the Sistermon Noir's cold sweat and shaking hands were more than evident to the little girl.
At this point, Azura was already getting worn down, so when Karatenmon and Gladimon rushed her, she couldn't defend herself properly. Instead she took what cuts she could and tried to counterattack, but the two Digimon were able to cover for each other and back off safely.
"You look tired!" The Musyamon commented in mock-concern. "But don't worry, sweetie, it's gonna be all over pretty soon!" He turned his head over to Yasyamon and nodded. The wooden-sword-wielder chuckled, and charged forward once more. As he got closer, he lifted his blades up to strike, but in an instant Azura jumped forward, reaching out with a bare hand. But in an instant, a knife appeared and impaled the attacking Digimon's face, mask and all.
But moving right behind the Yasyamon, was Musyamon, and with one swing of his blade, sliced up Azura's sword arm. The Sistermon Ciel let out a shriek as she dropped her blade and clutched her arm. Then Gladimon and Karatenmon moved in, slicing at her legs. She collapsed to her knees, falling before her three foes.
"What the hell... you shouldn't be losing..." Sable muttered through gritted teeth.
"What a shame. We lost two swords..." Musyamon laughed, bending down to pick up Azura's blade. "But at least I got a new one, and this one's got a nice weight to it!" He put it up to his face, sniffing the handle. "And it's got such a beautiful scent to it, too!" He raised the blade up and looked down at his fallen foe. "So... got any last words, sweetie?"
But Azura just knelt in silence, her face resolute, but her eyes defeated. "Do whatever you ha-"
"You useless bitch!" The combatants' attention was turned towards Sable, the Sistermon Noir charging towards the battle. Her black robes suddenly gave off a faint pink glow as a trident appeared in her hand. Half her robes turned a pinkish color as she lunged towards the Musyamon.
"What the... who the hell are y-" But the demon man Digimon jumped away from Sable's thrust as the Sistermon Noir stood in between her sister and their enemy.
"Sable!? What is going on... How did you get tha-" Azura looked over towards the trident in Sable's hands, but she got interrupted when Sable spun around and slapped her across the face.
"You weren't supposed to actually lose, you weakling!" Sable chastised, grabbing the Sistermon Ciel's collar and yanking her up to her feet. "You were supposed to win like you always do, no matter how inconvenient it is for me!"
"Wh-what are you going on about!?" Azura asked in surprise, but then she realized something. "Wait! You were watching this entire time!? And you didn't do anything to help beforehand!?" She clenched her fist and drove it right into Sable's cheek. "What the hell, sis!? You seriously let things get this bad before stepping in to save the day!?"
"Heh, so you weren't alone after all! Well it doesn't matter too much if there's one or a hundred of you, you're still going to... to..." The Musyamon spoke up, but it was clear neither Sistermon were paying him any mind.
"I'm sorry if I don't disappear in the middle of the night to go off and hunt a bunch of enemy Digimon I can't even defeat!"
"Hey... We're kind of in the middle of something right now..."
"No, I'm the one who doesn't watch her own sibling get outnumbered and assaulted just so she can make a dramatic entrance! That is so typical! You always have to make things look good for you instead of just doing the right thing, don't you!"
"Hey!" Musyamon barked out, gesturing towards Gladimon and Karatenmon. "If they're going to ignore us, just finish them off!" The two Digimon moved in towards the bickering Sistermon.
"Excuse me, but you're the one that's always going, 'Just leave the fighting to me! You wouldn't be much help, anyway!' So you're welcome, sis!" Sable retorted, stepping out of the way of Gladimon's swing and smacking him with the butt of her Trident.
"Uh-huh! And you're totally doing this out of the kindness of your heart!" Azura shot back. She reached out and grabbed Karatenmon's wrist, twisting his body around.
"I was saving you, wasn't I?" Sable answered, lunging her trident forward and impaled the off-guard swordsbird through the back. He slumped to the ground as Azura let go of his wrist, then pulled out a dagger. Gladimon moved forward to attack Sable while she was distracted, but the wounded Sistermon Ciel put her foot out to trip up the small knight Digimon. He fell over, and she knelt down to stab him.
It was then that Musyamon struck. But Sable wasn't the only one getting fed up with standing around. "What the hell is with this situation!? Just watching you two argue is getting annoying!" Airi yelled out, pressing a button on her Xros Loader as a Tankmon, Commandramon, and Mailbirdramon appeared before her. "Shoot that bastard with the two swords!" And the three Digimon unloaded their bullets, cannons, and lasers into the Champion-level.
Musyamon roared in pain and surprise. His new sword was blown out of his hands and soared into the air. Both Sistermon jumped up to catch it, but Azura's injuries betrayed her. So instead, Sable caught the blade in midair, dove down towards the Musyamon, and sliced the demon Digimon in two with one falling swing.
"And I've had quite enough of you getting in the middle of this!" She barked as a light blue aura mixed in with the pink aura. "Does anyone else want to attack us, or can we resume our conversation, please?" Sable looked around with an enraged glare, but there was no one else save for her minions, and Azura. Seeing this, she let out a sigh and took the time to regain her composure. She slowly made her way towards the Sistermon Ciel, and planted the blade into the ground before her.
"Typical Sable. Always has to make a big impression..." Azura mocked, pulling the blade out of the ground and sheathing it. "Seriously, there's no one else here but us, so why bother with all the grandstanding..." Her balance shifted as the rush of battle wore off and she collapsed under the weight of her wounds. But Sable was there to stop her from falling. Azura let out a deep breath and whispered. "...Thanks..."
"Don't mention it," Sable responded. Airi wasn't sure, but she swore she saw a genuine smile from the black-clad Sistermon. It didn't take long for Azura to recover. Or at least, for Azura to say she was fine. Her arm was hung into a sling as she began to wave her farewell to the pair.
"So... I guess this is where we go our separate ways, huh?" Azura stated.
"Yeah, I suppose so..." Sable answered nonchalantly, as if she was kind of annoyed that Azura hadn't left already.
"So... about that trident. It looked a lot like... How did you..."
"I can't really say for sure," She answered rather snappily. "But I'm not going to argue with the results. After all, it's like she's looking after us, right?"
"Heh. Yeah. She wouldn't let something like death stop her from doing something like that!" Azura answered with a solemn smile. "Well... take care!" And with that, the Sistermon Ciel turned around and took off without another word.
"You wanna tell me what that was all about?" Airi asked after she had left. But Sable simply gave the little girl one of her condescending smiles as she pat her on the head.
"Oh, my little mascot, you don't need to know that!" She answered, back to normal. "All you have to do is look cute for me and hold onto that little device of ours!" And she began to walk away herself. "Come along dear, there are still more leads that we can recruit!" Final Word Count: 4828/3000
