The sisters had been the human world for a while now, yet were perhaps just a little too cautious for their own good. Instead of introducing themselves to their human partner right away, they instead decided to watch her to see what kind of person she was, disguising themselves as stray cats. And it turned out that she wasn't that awful of a person. Ever since she noticed them, all of a sudden they found random bowls of milk and cat food sitting outside various apartments.
So Pepper had thought up the perfect plan to introduce themselves to Reiko. They'd drop her Digivice at her doorstep, where she would discover it when she went to work. She'd hold onto it all day, wondering what it was, and when she got home they'd make their introduction and explain their significance to each other. It was the perfect introduction for Pepper and Snowflake. But sadly, fate laughed at Pepper's plan. Reiko certainly discovered the Digivice when she left in the morning, but instead of keeping it, she simply examined it for a couple of minutes... and threw it in the trash.
Which led the BlackGatomon and her Gatomon sister this this point in time. A landfill where some river was supposed to be, digging through trash in a possibly futile attempt to find it. Both cats were covered in trash and Pepper was barely able to keep herself from retching.
Her sister, however, seemed far more adept at digging through the trash, yet seemed more entertained with playing with a crumpled-up cardboard box instead.
"Focus, Snow!" She glared at the filth-ridden white kitty with her amber eyes. Pepper wanted to just jump out of her fur and skin to get away from all the filth, so the fact that her sister was so comfortable with it was doubly disgusting. "We're not going to find it if you fool around all day!"
Snowflake gave the BlackGatomon a cold stare for a minute, before slapping aside a torn plastic back and looking underneath. "Nope. Not here." She stated, resuming her attempts to restore the cardboard box to its former uncrumpled glory. "It was your stupid plan, so it's your stupid responsibility. I'm just here to have fun. If I find it, I find it. Otherwise I've got better things to do."
Though she would have preferred that Snowflake recognize the gravitas of their circumstances, she supposed that Snowflake had a point. So Pepper covered her nose with a gloved paw and went to digging through the largest trash pile she had ever seen.

Jomei had come to know Shibuya River very well; he walked by it every day, sometimes along it, and was intimately aware of all the little side areas and branches, where he should and shouldn't step, where animals liked to hang out. Which alleyways were dead ends and which lead back into the city. Where the delinquents like to hang out. The best places to hide that didn't leave him with a minimum of soaked socks.
He walked along the concrete wall bordering the river, a slight spring in his step, though still careful not to slip and fall in. He'd just finished a delivery a moment ago - a pretty light package, but one the client was very specific about regarding secrecy. He didn't ask any questions - and he got a pretty nice tip for it.
He was pondering on just how to spend it until the scent hit his nose. It was an unpleasant smell, but one he was used to by now. It was an unfortunate fact that a portion of the river was now a dedicated landfill. It was a place he generally avoided, though had to pass by frequently when he took this route. And he didn't plan on breaking that routine.
Until he heard the voices.
He couldn't quite tell who was talking, but he was sure there were at least two different people talking. And it sounded like one of them was much more focused on finding something than the other. He couldn't see who they were - and he knew better than to just walk straight in there, but it sounded like they needed to find something pretty important. He wasn't exactly skilled at going through trash - the only time he ever did it was after dropping his phone in a trashcan, and that was after getting help (from someone who offered him food first out of pity) - but it wouldn't hurt to have more eyes and hands to search with, right?
He kept his distance from the obstructing trash pile, walking around it slowly. "Hello? Is someone there? Do you need help looking for something?" Better to announce himself first, rather than surprise them; he even made sure that his footsteps were loud enough to hear. People could do a lot of things when they're scared - even if it was just because some little kid in a hoodie asked if they needed assistance.

The pair's ears twitched as they heard someone's voice and encroaching footsteps. It was most likely a human, so it would be best to hide.
"What do you want to do?" Snowflake asked in a whisper, her eyes narrowing with a fierce determination to do something. Pepper was sure that her sister didn't want to hide. "If it's just one human, we can take them. I'll slice up one of their legs, and you can slice up the other. Once they're too weak to stand, we can both go for the throat and take them down for good. And since humans don't dissolve into data, we can just leave the body lying around here and-"
"Okay, stop!" Pepper harshly whispered back, slapping her sister's nose with the back of her gloved paw. Snowflake let out a hiss as she recoiled back. "First off, I don't even know why or how you came to learn that, and secondly, we're not here to hunt any humans! We're on the humans' side now, remember?"
"Not if we don't find the Digivice," The Gatomon pointed out with a smug grin.
"Shut it!" Pepper retorted as the figure began to get even closer. They couldn't see each other yet, but judging by what the human yelled out earlier, they were willing to help. But most humans didn't know anything about Digimon, so they would likely freak out if Pepper approached. Which meant that they would have to trick them somehow...
So by the time the human made it within sight, the only thing he could see were two cats wearing gloves, strolling about the trash pile. The white one looked just plain bored, while the black one was all stiffened up from nervousness as she looked over towards the small human.
"M-m-meow...?" She offered super convincingly

As Jomei turned the corner, he could hear some whispering, though not well enough to tell what was being said. Probably about what to do now that someone noticed them. He stopped his advance, giving them a moment to talk things over, only to finish walking around once they quieted down. And once he was around the pile he saw...
A pair of cats. He stood in place, looking over the pair of weird-looking cats, one white, the other black. He never saw any cat breed with paws that big, or with hair on the tips of their ears, or with long two-toned tails. Could cats even be purple?
Maybe they were a designer-breed. He'd seen a lot of pictures of designer-breed dogs that looked bizarre, and they looked the same to each other - just with a color change. And both of them had gloves on their forelegs. Which meant these were probably lost pets.
The white one seemed nonchalant about him being there, but the black one looked scared stiff - even its meow sounded nervous. Jomei grinned, kneeling down. "Hey there, big guy!" he said, offering a hand. "I'm not gonna hurt you. I just wanted to check out what was going on back here."
"Do you guys know where the people talking here went? It sounded like they needed help finding something." He surveyed the area, looking for any places they might be hiding. There were a few places they could've gone, but they were far enough away that they rush at him without him noticing first.
While he was being cautious, he lacked the usual anxiety he had when talking to new people; animals were much easier to talk to than people. Cats could be mean sometimes, but as long as he didn't antagonize them or approach too quickly, he could guess how they'd react. They couldn't swear at him or make fun of him
"Don't suppose it was you two talking, was it?" He let out a small chuckle - of course it wasn't them. Cats couldn't talk. He knew he wasn't going to get an answer, but what harm was there in just talking to them? "Are you two looking for something too?"

Pepper saw a small human turn the corner. In a blue hoodie. He seemed to be looking at the pair for a odd amount of time. Did he already find them suspicious? Pepper began to panic internally the longer the boy remained silent. Had she already screwed it up? Was her "meow" not nearly convincing enough? Was there a tribal dance that human-cats did when greeting regular humans? There was so much that Pepper didn't know and that she didn't prepare for! She should be ashamed of herself, for not preparing for this exact and easily predictable circumstance!
But the boy knelt down and offered his hand. So it seems he was convinced of Pepper's cat-ness. So Pepper nodded and grasped the boy's hand, shaking it firmly before freezing up once again.
Oh crap! She had just shaken his hand out of habit! Human-cats don't shake hands! Curse her innate civility!
"M-m-m-meow!" Pepper repeated, jerking her paw back in a hurry while forcing back a nervous laugh.
It didn't seem like he knew that they were capable of talking, as he seemed convinced that there were others nearby. And Pepper didn't want to make him think otherwise, so when he asked if there was anyone else nearby, she just shrugged, like all cats do.
The boy seemed to let out a joke that hit right on the mark, slamming right into Pepper's panic button once more, but the boy laughed shortly afterward, easing some of the BlackGatomon's nervousness. He asked if they were looking for something, and Pepper had an idea!
If they could get another pair of hands helping, they could find the Digivice in no time! But... how would she be able to get the boy on the right track? She wasn't so sure... perhaps she could draw him a picture of the Digivice? That would probably work... but she didn't have anything to write with, so that plan was a bust for now.
But thankfully, it seemed Snowflake was here to the rescue! Or... at least here to do something. She leaped down from a tall pile of trash, approaching the boy with fishbones in her mouth. She dropped the bones right at the boy's feet, and began mewling rather pathetically, staring up at him with pleading, bright blue eyes.
What did Snowflake mean by this, most likely something along the lines of... "Go find me some food, lowly human!"

He smiled when the black cat shook his hand...before his eyes widened as he realized he was shaking hands with a cat. He had to look down to realize that the cat was the one grabbing his hand, not the other way around. The cat seemed just as shocked, as it pulled away and made another awkward meow. "I...didn't know cats knew how to do that," he mused aloud, standing back up.
These were definitely someone's well-trained cats. Or at least this one was well-trained; the white one still seemed to be doing its own thing.
He took his eyes off the cats for a moment, to see if the people who were talking before came out from wherever they were hiding. Still nobody; chances were that they just left the place or just didn't want his help, and were waiting until he was gone to continue their search. Unfortunate, but he could understand it; he'd probably act the same way in that situation.
His attention went back to the cats when he saw the white one move in his periphery. It trotted over to him, dropping something by his feet. He had to kneel down once more to get a good look at what they were...only to realize they were bones. "...oooooh! You guys are hungry! That's why you're rooting around here; you're looking for food!" He felt a little silly not realizing that was the main reason any animal would be looking around a landfill.
The puppy-dog eyes were completely unnecessary in convincing him to help, though they melted his heart all the same. "If you guys want, I can get you some food. There should be a pet store nearby with plenty of cat food...though I dunno if it's gonna be as good as the stuff you usually eat." Someone with cats like these must have a lot of money; they were probably used to expensive pet food. He wasn't sure if he had enough for that kind of stuff.
Maybe he'd be lucky, and these guys would have inexpensive tastes. "It'll probably taste better than anything you'd find in here."

The pair of totally-normal kitties looked up at the boy with bright, hopeful eyes, but after a couple seconds Pepper nudged Snowflake off to the side, putting some distance in between the boy and the kitties.
"What exactly do you think you're doing?" She whispered a quietly as she could.
"Two words; free meal." Snowflake answered as if the question was obvious. "I've noticed something while in this world. When people think we're just regular cats, they practically jump at the chance to feed us."
"The only one that does that is our human!" Pepper corrected her. "Remember that 'landlord' creature that keeps trying to chase us out? Not all humans are gonna be nice to us!"
"But this one wants to feed us. So keep your head down, accept a couple of headpats, and let's fill our stomach!"
"Aren't you forgetting something?" Pepper asked impatiently. "Something a little more important than free food?"
"There's no such thing," Snowflake answered, and Pepper couldn't be sure whether her sister was being serious or not. "But you don't need to worry. It's not like it's going anywhere. And maybe the kid will happen to trip over it or something. Couldn't hurt."
Pepper couldn't help but growl at her sister's words, but she supposed that Snowflake had a point. It's not like they were making much progress by themselves. Perhaps they'd be able to find a way to ask him to help along the way towards this "pet store" place. So the BlackGatomon nodded, then made her way back to the boy, with her sister in tow.
"Mrow!" She stated excitedly, circling the boy's feet as if to say they were with him wherever he went.

The two cats seemed pleased with his offer - and they both looked pretty hungry. Poor guys must have been hungry for a while; was nobody feeding them? Surely, some other people were willing to help feed strays, especially ones as distinctive as these.
But then the pair moved a small distance away after one nudged the other. Jomei just awkwardly stood there as the two cats seemed to be communicating with each other. He couldn't hear them very well - and he wasn't trying too hard to eavesdrop on some cats; it wasn't like he was going to understand them if he did.
And yet, what he did hear sounded familiar. Kind of like the voices he was hearing before. But maybe he was just hearing things. No way those cats were the ones he heard talking, right?
Whatever the case, their "conversation" came to an end. And if the happy meow and the circling around his feet meant anything, they were willing to go along with him. "Alright, just follow me! Just...don't go around my legs like that when we're near the river. It gets kind of narrow and I don't want any of us falling in there."
With all that said, Jomei would leave the landfill the way he came. It was fortunate to finally get away from the bothersome stench of trash; he hoped wasn't there long enough for it to stick to him, and he definitely had to clean the hand he shook hands with. He had it in his mind to get those cats washed too, but he wasn't sure where he could go to do that - or if he even could do it, considering how much cats apparently hated baths.
With not much else to do along the way, he decided to try and strike up a conversation. One-sided, but it'd be something. "So why'd you guys go away from home? Did you run away, or did you just get lost? I dunno exactly where you live, but I might know the area you're from, so maybe we can go there after you're fed." Probably the more affluent area. Even if the chance of finding the exact house was close to 0, there was still a good chance of finding their owner.
It always felt nice when he could talk to someone without feeling judged. A person would probably think it was weird that he was asking questions like that, but these weren't people. He didn't feel uncomfortable being so forward with cats.

The duo looked at each other for a moment. Snowflake nodded, while Pepper just shrugged. She was getting a little hungry, but this wasn't the time for eating! There were more important things! So Pepper decided that she would have to make sure to put whatever antics Snowflake was planning back on track.
Meanwhile, the Gatomon just yawned and lazily followed behind the boy. They didn't want to trip him up, after all. So the simply kept their distance behind him, whispering to each other as they did so.
"So... if he thinks we're just regular human-cats, why is he talking to us? Human-cats don't have some sort of secret language with humans, right?"
"Who knows? He's probably just stupid."
"Yes, that must be the case!" Pepper agreed.
The boy continued to ask them questions, assuming he wasn't being judged, while Pepper resisted the urge to roll her eyes. Well you see, good sir, we left our homes because we felt an unusual connection with a human from this world. We happened upon a strange Digital Device and gave it to her, but apparently humans are airheaded doofuses that throw away objects of incredibly significance.
It wasn't exactly like she could outright say that, now could she? Well, Snowflake would probably like that. In fact, she was surprised her sister hadn't already blown their cover just for kicks. But it was most likely because food was involved. Unlike Pepper, Snowflake had a strong desire to constantly shake up the status quo, yet her values were easily compromised by her base desires.
So as the boy explained his plan to help the two cat Digimon, Pepper simply nodded along without paying much attention, following the boy as he made his way out of the landfill and towards wherever he was heading.

Jomei giggled to himself as it almost sounded like the pair were responding to him. He even swore he was hearing those two voices again, and looked back for a moment to make sure they weren't somehow being followed. Nobody but the two cats following him - no way they would be hiding either; there weren't any decent hiding spots in this part of the river. "Well, whatever's up with you guys, I'll make sure you guys at least get fed. It isn't fun being so hungry."
It wasn't much further to the pet store, and Jomei wouldn't make any more one-sided conversation for the rest of the way; just a little further along the river, then through a hole in a fence that lead into an alleyway big enough for him. A little further through the alley, and they'd find themselves in a street. Less than a minute later, they'd arrive at their destination: a basic-looking storefront name the "Kitty Corral". "This is the place," Jomei stated, looking back to the pair, "I dunno if they'll let me bring animals inside though. I've never actually gone in here before. So maybe you can wait for me out here?"
With that said, he'd make his way inside, careful to use his un-shook hand to open the door. The first thing he'd have to do was use the bathroom to wash his hands. Then he would look around for the right food on his own, which took enough time that one of the store employees approached him to help him. It took a while for her to get him to explain the exact situation, involving a lot of him flubbing over his own words as he struggled to explain that he was just getting enough for a single meal for two cats that weren't exactly feral, but he didn't know whose they were. He struggled to hold eye contact for more than a few seconds, and he looked guarded throughout. It would take five minutes of talking for him to explain it all in a comprehensible way, and it would be clear he was very uncomfortable with it all.
It would all be in view of the two cats if they looked inside.
But with that done with, he finally managed to get what he was after: a few cans of wet cat food, and even a double-bowl they would let him borrow for the cats to use. His face was a little reddened from the situation, and once he was through the door, he let out a massive exhale.
"A-alright," he said, looking back to the cats, "I hope this is enough. We gotta give the bowl back when you're done though; she'll be watching you guys." He pointed to the window, where the employee was watching - and looking very concerned about these cats.
He'd lay the bowl down in front of them, opening a couple of cans and dumping the contents in each of them. "Let me know if you want more!"

The two cat Digimon simply waited patiently for the boy to get them food, standing outside some tacky-looking pet place that smelled like... human world stuff. Well, it admittedly smelled better than the two trash-covered fuzzballs currently waiting around for food. Well, whatever the boy was saying to the employee, he sure seemed to be taking his time. So it gave the twins a chance to speak once more.
"So what's the plan?" Pepper asked her sister. She was the one who wanted to go along for this food trip, but Snowflake stared back at her and shrugged.
"We eat food, then we think up a plan," She answered.
Pepper shook her head, wanting to slap the white Gatomon upside her head. "That's not a plan! What's the point of this little expedition if we can't even communicate with the only person who can help us?"
"Well, we can communicate if we really wanted to. You're the one who's against opening up your mouth and speaking to him."
"Because most humans would freak out if a Digimon spoke to them!" Pepper reasoned.
"We're Digimon. We can subdue a small human."
"That's not the issue!" Pepper countered, face-pawing her forehead. Even if she wanted to, it's not like she could do it in such a public location now!
"Cute little kitties!" They heard a little girl's voice cry out from nearby. A distracted Pepper jumped back in surprise as she bared her fangs out and hissed at her. She stepped back as well. She didn't look to be very old, maybe even younger than the boy they were traveling with.
"You, human," Snowflake calmly stated, staring at the little girl. "Help us find something we're looking for, or else." The little girl's eyes widened and she ran away crying and screaming towards a pair of adult humans. Snowflake nodded to Pepper and admitted, "I see. Humans do freak out."
Pepper stared back at her sister in stunned silence, and at that point the boy had returned from the inside of the store with a double-bowl and some cans of wet, squishy food. He dumped them into each section of the bowl. Pepper looked up towards the boy in disbelief. Did he really expect them to eat this swill? And without any utensils?
Apparently, as Snowflake simply scooped up a paw-full of come slightly-fishy food and began eating out of her gloved paw. Pepper just shook her head at her sister's manners. What a barbarian.

Jomeilooked up for a moment, overhearing the cries of a little girl a good distance away. She seemed to run over to a pair of adults - her parents - who looked back at him. He was quick to look down, though peered back to see what they were doing; just walking away from the pair. Was she scared of the two cats? Hopefully they didn't cause any trouble while he was busy.
He looked back down to see the two cats had wildly different reactions to the food he presented.
The black one made it very clear that it did not like what it was given. "You don't like this stuff?" That tip he'd gotten didn't last as long as he'd hoped. Cat food was expensive. "Sorry...this stuff is pretty pricey. With what I got left, I don't think I can get anything that looks better than this." Maybe he could get a refund for the other cans, but even then, it wouldn't leave him with a lot to work with. At least the other cat was a lot less picky about his meal choices, so it wasn't a total waste of money. It was enough to make him smile a little, but he still couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at how it was eating the food out of its paw, rather than just out of the bowl. Yes, its paw was a good size for that, but he was pretty sure that wasn't how most cats ate food. Or most animals with paws.Must have been very well-trained.All he could really do was wait for them to finish. If the black one would even eat any of it. "If you won't have any of it, I think they can instead. Guess you were lucky enough to get to be a picky eater; I either have to eat what I get or else I won't get anything!" Which sometimes meant he had to eat something he really didn't like, but that was better than going to bed hungry. "When you guys are done eating, we can go back to finding where you live. Your owner must really be missing you guys, and I'm sure they got better food than what I can get you." It was just a matter of waiting for them to finish eating up...and seeing if they wanted more; he'd be more than willing to dump some more in there if they were hungry enough to finish them. As Pepper gave a thoughtful look to the boy, she began to realize something that had she really wished that she hadn't. This little human simply stumbled upon them, offered to help them, and even went out of his way to spend his own money and buy them food. And considering that they met at a landfill, chances were that he didn't have a whole lot of it left. She looked over to Snowflake, the disgusting little cretin that she was, and saw that she had no qualms scarfing down what was given to her. So it couldn't have been that bad. She would feel pretty guilty if she didn't eat this food given to her, after all.
So she scooped a paw-full of cat food with one paw, held her nose with the other, and chomped down on her share. Even with her nose blocked off, the taste was absolutely wretched. Seriously, human-cats eat this stuff? She swallowed the last bits of food in her paw and let out a gasp for air as she finished eating. She looked down to see a little bit of food left in the bowls, and saw that Snowflake was going for the last of it. Stupid guilty conscience.
But that wouldn't be entirely fair, now would it. She shoved the Gatomon away from the food, causing her sister to roll back a bit. And while Snowflake hissed in anger and shock, Pepper lifted up the bowl with her front paws and held it up to the boy.
There was still a little bit in the bowl left, and it was only fair that the little human get fed as well.
"Mrooowr..." She added as an apology.

Awider smile found itself on the boy's face as the black cat finally decided to try some of the food, eating in the same "grab first, put in mouth after" manner as the other cat - further reinforcing the idea this was something their owner taught them. Though he really didn't expect it to pinch its nose at the same time; this must have been a very smart designer breed.
Even when it looked like the cat absolutely hated it, he was smiling. "Well, at least you tried it out!" he chuckled, "Guess you can let your friend have some-" Oh. It wouldn't even let the other cat have any of it, pushing it away when it tried to eat what remained. It was even handing (pawing?) him the bowl. "I didn't realize you hated it that much." The smile had gone away, but now he had a more neutral expression; even if that one didn't like it, at least it got to eat something. And the other ate a whole can's worth. "Well, maybe that'll keep your tummies happy until we find your owner." He accepted the bowl, grabbing the two empty cans and the two unopened ones. "I'll take these back, then. You guys just wait a minute, then we can get back to finding your owner." A quick fit of curiosity lead to him sniffing the cat food - and he reeled back almost immediately. Most cats were apparently supposed to like this, but it smelt like the garbage dump to him. He was glad he never got desperate enough to eat pet food.He made his way back inside the store - aided by the worked, who'd watched all that had unfolded, opening the door for him. She seemed to stare at the two "cats" for a moment before closing the door. Getting the refund itself wouldn't take as long as the initial purchase, and to his fortune, he got more than half of what he'd spent; he knew he shouldn't have gotten that much back, and was probably getting it out of pity from the woman, but he said nothing about it - people didn't like it when he tried to argue against charity. With his head hung low, he gave a small thanks to the woman before exiting the store. "Alright," he half-mumbled, "We gotta find your owner now. I'm guessing someone with designer pets as smart as you guys have to be from Western Shibuya. You know, where all the rich people with big houses are." Only place that made sense to him. "I guess cats as smart as you would recognize which house is yours, 'cause I don't think they'll appreciate me going door to door." Not unless he was specifically delivering something to them. The boy didn't seem to get what Pepper was trying to accomplish, as he simply stated back at the twins with an unreadable gaze. He took all the food back, not even taking any for himself. He must not have liked that flavor of food. He even went back inside the store to do something. He seemed rather content, but the BlackGatomon was rather concerned that the boy didn't eat any food himself. The Digimon loathed the idea that the boy was looking out for the pair, despite that they didn't really need his assistance feeding themselves. Even in the human world, there were vending machines...
That was it! "Snow, when the boy gets back, stall him for a little bit! There's something I need to do!"
"Hmm? Why? Wait, what am I supposed to-" But the black kitty Digimon was already racing down the street, turning the corner and towards a vending machine she saw along the way. There was food and stuff inside of these things, and all she had to do was put some bits in and...
Why was there no place to insert her Bits in? She stared at the vending machine for an incredulous moment, shaking her head. Of course the vending machines here sucked! Out of frustration, she kicked the side of the machine with her hind legs, sending it tilting off to the side. For a frightening moment, it looked like the machine was going to tip over entirely, but it thankfully swung back in place, shaking violently as it did so. Several bags of chips suddenly lodged themselves free from the containers of the machine, dropping down within the kitty Digimon's reach.
Welp... it wasn't the right way to do things, but it was how things turned out. She reached up inside the machine to grab three bags, as a stunned group of onlookers just stared at Pepper. Nervous, she simply went, "Um... M-meow?" before darting off.
And by the time she got back, she heard a terrible mewling sound, as she saw her sister writhing on the ground outside the pet store, clutching her chest as if she were having a heart attack. As Pepper arrived, however, she suddenly hopped back up to her feet as if everything was normal once more. Welp, she sure hoped her sister was distracting enough.
"M-mrowr..." Pepper commented, holding the three bags of chips in her mouth as she dropped them at the boy's feet.
