The Mainframe Hills. A place with gentle sloping hills. Though there were lakes, they were spread about far enough to be unlikely to cause trouble with their activities for today. Lothar brought the vintage convertible to a stop and looked at Mandrake as he wondered if the cunning illusionist would catch on to driving as easily as he adapted to new forms of magic.
When Lothar stopped the car Mandrake looked toward Lothar blue eyes meeting brown before he said "I can't believe you know how to drive, Lothar. Did you learn from your parents before you went off on your own?"
Lothar nodded before he replied "Indeed they did. They spent time teaching me how to drive shortly after I digivolved to Elecmon figuring it may come in handy someday. After I got the hang of driving I left their care to look for you."
"It seems that you haven't lost your touch after not driving for more than a few months." Mandrake said as the pair unbuckled their seatbelts and got out of the car before switching places. Now Mandrake sat in the driver's seat and Lothar was in the passenger's seat. After adjusting the seats it seemed Mandrake was ready to begin.
LJ giggled from his digimon version of a car seat and said "Pa-Pa? Da-Da go vroom?" LJ spoke with excitement which caused Mandrake and Lothar to chuckle at their son's words.
"Yes, LJ, but hopefully slowly and carefully until I get the hang of driving." Mandrake said as he turned to look at the purple Punimon.
"Vroom! Vroom! Whee!" LJ giggled happily.
"His vocabulary is really coming along, old friend. I wouldn't be surprised if he digivolves in the coming months." Mandrake said after he turned to face forward again.
Lothar then said "I agree but he has always been an astute little one, hasn't he?"
"Yes, he has." Mandrake replied in agreement before he then said "Let's get started, shall we?"
"Yes, let's get started." Lothar said before he began instructing Mandrake on what he needed to do to get the car started, stopped, and various other things one needed to know while the car was moving.
Mandrake looked at the buttons on the dashboard and asked "What about these buttons, Lothar?"
Lothar looked at the buttons Mandrake mentioned and said "The one on the left activates the Evac Device but since we don't need to escape the car, we don't need it right now. The one on the right activates the Jet Engine so the car can fly if we need it too."
"Let me guess, you already know how to fly the car?" Mandrake asked clearly amazed that his boyfriend had gotten such a part for the car.
"I kind of practiced before reuniting with you and LJ after buying the car and parts. In this case it's like driving but in the air. The only hard part would be landing." Lothar answered.
"Then I guess I'll get the hang of driving before we move on to flying." Mandrake said as he started the car and began slowly driving along. Slowly and carefully Mandrake drove the car making the occasional turn here and there. Gradually he began driving faster but no where near dull speed. After reaching about sixty miles per hour he felt going faster was not really necessary.
"Whee! Vroom! Vroom!" LJ exclaimed clearly enjoying himself as it seemed Mandrake was doing fairly well driving. Though it was unknown how well Mandrake would drive when dealing with traffic, this was a good start.
After driving for a while Mandrake noticed it was time for lunch if the stomach gurgling and LJ fussing were anything to go by. Stopping the car, Mandrake and Lothar undid their seatbelts, opened the car doors, and stepped out of the car. Seeing a pond nearby, Mandrake walked over to it while Lothar retrieved LJ from his car seat. Looking into the pond, Mandrake saw various fish swimming about. Focusing upon his telekinetic power, he lifted multiple fish out of the pond until he had enough for his family. Most were for Lothar and LJ since his appetite was relatively small by comparison.
As he returned to where he parked the car, he noticed that Lothar had already got a campfire going far enough from the car so that it wouldn't catch fire. LJ sat near Lothar as he had already prepared the wood needed for the spit so the fish could be cooked. Soon the fish were cooking and Mandrake said "I was thinking that after lunch I could try activating the Jet Engine of the car. At least after armor digivolving to Thunderbirdmon I have a rough grasp on how to fly."
"The trick is flying by engine is different than flapping wings to sustain flight." Lothar said LJ hopped into his lap.
"Then I guess I'll fly carefully until I get the hang of it. The only part that worries me is the landing."
"I suppose, when in doubt, you can just slow down gradually as you come in for a landing." Lothar suggested resulting in Mandrake nodding in agreement.
Soon the fish were cooked and lunch passed by without incident for the small family. After the fire was put out they all got back into the car. When everyone was secure Mandrake turned the car on before activating the Jet Engine by pushing the right button on the dashboard. Good thing he remembered what Lothar had told him earlier. The wheels transformed into engines and the car slowly lifted off the ground while the steering wheel transformed into something more akin to what one would use to control a plane. Seeing as Mandrake looked puzzled, Lothar gave him a quick rundown on how to steer the car in flight mode since he knew at least the basics of how to fly the car.
Mandrake spent about an hour flying around before he was ready to land. An hour was all he seemed to be willing to take at this point. Slowing down he looked at the button that transformed the car and saw it was blinking. Pressing it again when he was slowly flying over the ground, the car transformed back into its normal form as Mandrake carefully landed. Mandrake and Lothar decided to spend the rest of the day there seeing as Mandrake's driving lesson went pretty well.
