Walking through the hot sands of the folder desert, Tsumi has had enough time to grow accustomed to her two digimon companions. To her left is a golden-armored dragon digimon on two legs named 'Caliber' the Zubamon. To her right, a fuzzy bipedal digimon called 'Dauntless' the Ludomon.
Tsumi seems to be taking this heat the worst, sweating profusely and drinking from a water bottle every few minutes just to keep herself from shriveling up...but her digimon seem more or less used to it.
"Just don't think about it so much, Tsumi." Caliber says, raising a clawed finger. "First rule of comfort! Ignore being uncomfortable! Always! No hesitation!"
Dauntless only groans. "Oh shush, that's not true at all. Sand keeps getting in my armor....it's annoying me." He says to his twin as Tsumi can only look at her digivice...
The reason she was out here...the device was showing an arrow pointing in the direction they were headed, like a compass...And she had no better to do, not being able to find this 'trainmon' or whatever it was called. If anything, she was hoping that whatever this arrow on her screen led to would answer some of her questions as to why her father had the device in the first place.
"Tsumi!" Caliber calls, pulling her out of her trance to look at the distance where the golden digimon was pointing.
"...Ruins?" She asks at the sight, seeing what appears to be a destroyed ancient city in the distance. Looking back at her digivice....yeah, it was pointing right towards it. "It's about time. We can get away from the sun for a while." Ludomon says with a shrug as his metal tail lifts out of the sand to flick away some of the hot grit from its cracks and joints.
"Yeah. Lets just keep going. If there's a city, there's gotta be another water source nearby...the least we could get from going through it, if I'm not " Tsumi notes as the group ventures onward....
A Short 30 Minutes Later....
The first steps into the ruins were all it took for Tsumi's digivice to beep, and the arrow to shift direction just a bit to the left...which was....South? Probably? Tsumi couldn't tell, and didn't know how the digital world's sun was positioned...sadly.
"Well, I guess we go that way..." Tsumi says with a sigh. "Why?" Caliber asks as Tsumi looks to him. "What else are we going to do?" "Get stronger!" Caliber cheers without hesitation as Dauntless shakes his head. "It's not as simple as that. We need to grow our data, and collect data from defeated enemies in order to get stronger. Both of which are by no means easy." "Big woooords. Stoooop. What you're saying is so simple! 'Hey, we need to fight'!"
The two digimon banter with eachother in a back and forth manner as Tsumi leads the way through the ruins.
And so they walked past, and around building after building while following the arrow. Time passed even more and noon turned into evening...but finally, another beep from the digivice.
"Oh!" Tsumi cries as the arrow on her screen turns into a circle. Her two digimon pause and tug on Tsumi's shirt as she stares at the screen of her golden divice.
"Tsumiiiii!" "TSUMI!" They both cry, as the girl looks ahead to see... a giant temple, with statues of swords lining a stairway up into the building. Chunks of the sandstone building are missing from time and weather's daunting assaults. "Whoa..." She says, looking at her digivice as it goes dim...this is where she was led to, it seems.
"So...I guess we go in?" She asks with a small nod from both of her partners.
When entering the temple after a semi-long staircase up, the gates slam shut behind her with dust rising from the earth below from the disturbance. Tsumi tensed all over, wincing...
Then, a voice. Booming, commanding, filled with power. "WHO DARES ENTER THIS TEMPLE!?" it yells as all three intruders can only freeze.
"I SHALL SLAY YOU WHERE....WAIT...."
The voice quiets down, before continuing. "The golden one, and the armored one...they both possess data similar to my own. I can feel it. . . Very well. You must have come for the eggs. I'll see to your trials."
A gate opens on the other side of the mostly empty room that is lit up only by the natural evening sun overhead. The entire temple is made of sandstone and decorated with blades of all sorts, from katana to greatswords.
"Go. You are to reach the next room before the sun sets. That is your test, golden one. Then, the armored one will have their chance. "
"Wait!" Tsumi cries with a frown. "Who are you!? Why was I led here?" She asks.
"....You will soon learn. Not today. Not even when you pass the test. But know that I am an ally. NOW GO!" The voice cries.
"Let's do as it says. The doors behind us won't be closing any time soon, Tsumi." Dauntless says, walking into the next room, followed by Caliber. Tsumi can only take a deep breath before also walking through...
To see a room filled to the brink with bamboo. All directions, coming from every wall and the very floor, bamboo...
"Uh..." Tsumi says, squinting to look through the sea of green in front of her. She can see the tiniest hint of a door, about 20 feet away...so not that far at all.
"I get it!" Caliber cries with a raised fist. "We have to hack our way through! It's a test of sharpness! YEEES FINALLY!" The small golden monster cries. "Tsumi, I'm trusting you. TWENTIEST BLADE!" he cries, warping his body into a golden blade and floating in place.
Tsumi flinches at the light while Dauntless only sits down against a wall. "Have fun with that." He says while shifting his shield-hat over his eyes for some shut eye.
"YOU CAN TURN INTO A SWORD?!?" Tsumi asks in disbelief as she looks the golden weapon up and down. She begrudgingly grasps onto the weapon with both hands, with a voice resounding in her mind. "Of course I can! I'm Zubamon, the Twentiest Data and the soon-to-be most powerful weapon in the digital world. Now lets cut through this bamboo and we can get outa here for a meal!"
Tsumi only nods, her entire body surging with the Zubamon's energies...it seems that just holding him was enough to make her feel a bit stronger.
"Alright Tsumi. Just remember your kendo training. Legs in position...shoulders back...." She takes a deeeeep breath. "HA!"
With a downward strike, a CRACK can be heard resonating through the room as the first stick of bamboo is chopped. "HA!" She cries again, hitting the same piece of wood a few feet away to let a section fall to the floor.
"One down, Tsumi!" Caliber cries telepathically.
"HA! HA! HIYA! HA! HYA!"
One hour later....
"...ya....hi....ugh." Tsumi groans, leaning into the sword in her hands. The poor golden digimon has had to de-transform several times now from the strain. Tsumi was also worse for were, only being halfway through the thick bamboo field within the room.
"Tsumi, we can keep going..." The sword speaks, shimmering with energy. "We don't have much more time till night. We gotta get through!" "I can't..." Tsumi wheezes..her lungs hurt, her back hurt, her arms hurt, her legs hurt, everything was sore...
"You gotta! Don't you wanna see why your digivice took you here?" "Yeah..." "And how will we see that?" "By going through that door?" "Yeah. So LETS GOOO!"
Tsumi takes a deep breath before straightening her stance. Shoulders back...legs positioned... "HIYA!"
One more hour later...
"Almost.....done...." Tsumi huffs, hucking the sword at a piece of bamboo. With the usual crack, and thud, it falls to the floor.
"Let's take a break. We have time." Caliber says telepathically, transforming back into his usual form to stand besid Tsumi. All around them were chopped up bamboo stubs with countless chunks of the wood on the floor. Dauntless sits where he has been the entire time, snoring into his helmet while lazing about.
"Yeah..." Tsumi says, sitting back into a piece of bamboo. "Yeesh, this is tough. Will doing this really be worth it?" She asks with a frown.
"Well, if we're let out...sure? I've been itching to train like this anyway." "No, I mean in general. What if I find no answers? About my dad, about this place, why I'm here..."
"Don't worry about that. It's an experience with us, after all. All else fails, we can just go back and eat again. Then we can go see the real world."
"I suppose...Hey Caliber?" "Yeah Tsumi?" "Uh...you and Dauntless seem to know a lot about this world, and a few things beside the fact. Plus, you seem dead-set on becoming some legendary weapon.. doesn't it take some time to come to a goal like that? What's going on here?"
"Oh, that's a simple thing to answer. We probably weren't just born. See, when digimon die their data gets all scrambly and messed up. In that state, it can be changed or eaten...chances are Dauntless and I had our data eaten at some point. Memories and all. with little bits and pieces left." She nods lightly. "I see....Are you okay with that?"
"well, I don't really remember what I had, so I'm not really upset. It's like asking if you miss not being alive, yanno?"
That one caused Tsumi to raise a brow. "That sounded too smart for you. Isn't this something that's more up Dauntless's alley?" "Hey now! You asked me, and then verbally bash me. That's not very nice."
They both get a small laugh, closing their eyes and resting for about 15 minutes...
...
"Alright! Lets get this going!" Tsumi cheers loud enough to wake up the Ludomon on the other side of the room. "Yeah!" Says Caliber as he transforms into his sword-form.
As she does, a golden aura surrounds her. "Now, I'm going to give you some of my power. I think you can handle it. Just reach into your heart, and scream!"
"HIYA! TWENTY SCRATCH!" She cries, slashing the sword as a blue hue shines from it, easily cutting through two pieces of bamboo. Then again, again, again, not stopping until...
"The door." She says, letting Caliber change back as she opens the barrier between rooms. The door is black with gold detailing, depicting an armored man defeating and wielding a dragon in the form of a blade.
As it opens, light shines through, and....
There stands a powerful figure. A living statue, a golem of strange design...A Golemon, complete with metal helmet.
"Are you the one who trapped us here?!" she asks. The creature only groans through a mouth of stone, bits of gravel falling to the tiled floor below.
"Survive." Is the only thing she hears from the booming voice that had greeted them earlier. This Golemon must be under that voice's control...or rather, the one who owned the voice.
The beastly digimon begins to march forward with enough weight to shake the ground below it. Stone spikes emerge from its back, and its stance becomes hostile as Dauntless steps forward. "Alright Tsumi! My turn!"
With both shield-arms held forward the ludomon shouts, saying "GREAT SHIELD!"
Then, same as Zubamon, the shield-digimon turns into light, warping his body into that of a shield rather than a sword. A dark green with neon purple detailing, and a "01" on it in paint.
Tsumi doesn't hesitate to hold it as Caliber also turns into his sword-form, which Tsumi also grabs, not expecting to put it to use, but...well, what she gonna do? Leave it behind?
"It will pull its attacks if you block with your shield. But don't expect it to completely whiff the attacks."
"ARE YOU INSANE?!" Tsumi cries as the first attack comes towards her. "Quickly!" She hears in her mind from Dauntless, quickly raising her shield arm.
The impact of the stone digimon's fist sends her to her knees, but the attack is held back by....a lot. It seems that this thing isn't wanting to outright kill the group. "Gah!" She cries.
"Don't wait on him! Move!" "MOVE!"
She rolls on the floor as the second attack comes, using this chance to look around the room...Round, decorative blades of steel lining the walls, lots of space, made of stone. And a door on the other end of the pseudo-arena.
She begins bolting towards the door, one downward fist landing right behind her, causing the ground to quake.
She jumps because of the nearby impact's force on the earth below her, having lost balance and opting to just roll with the impact. But then there she was, in front of the door. With a gasp, she stumbles to her feet and opens the gate to reveal...
A pair of digitama eggs. One appears to be wrapped in a band of gold, the other appears to be clad in tightly-bound and dried leather.
"Take them. Defeat the Golem, and leave. We'll meet again, when you wish for more power." the mysterious voice calls.
The temple shakes, and begins to crumble. The wall separating the arena and this mysterious chamber grows cracks and strains. Tsumi quickly runs to the eggs after straightening her glasses, her digimon transforming into their normal forms as she does.
Her digivice beeps in her pocket, emitting light. She pulls it out, and begins to push any and every button. "C'mon, c'mon, do something!" She says with a bit lip.
The wall crumbles and the knight of stone begins its advance towards her. Dauntless and Caliber stand beside Tsumi with determined glares. "TSUMI! I'LL SHATTER THIS THING!" "I'll PROTECT YOU!"
The light from the digivice grows more intense, and the pair of digitama eggs float upwards a few feet before exploding in light themselves. When the glow of the digivice and the eggs make contact with one another, the light begins to warp like fluid into the two digimon. The leatherbound egg for Dauntless, and Gold-Clad egg for Caliber.
"DIGIVOLVE!" Tsumi cries in desperation.
And so they do.
Both of them go through massive changes, bodies warping and energies growing. Armor shifts, powers intensifies, and finally...
"ZUBAMON DIGIVOLVE TO...." the final changes are made, a gateway of data shifts over the golden digimon to finalize the change with an "outer shell" changing them into a golden armor-clad eastern dragon digimon. "GOLDEN GINRYUMON!" Caliber cries.
"LUDOMON DIGIVOLVE TO...." The same is done for Dauntless, complete with a ring of data completing their outer shell into a similar, but dark-armored eastern dragon digimon. "GINRYUMON!"
They both hover in place for a while, separating Tsumi from the Golemon.
They're quick to charge forward in flight, circling the golemon while spewing blades from their mouths, slowly chipping at the stone monster.
Eventually, they fine an opening- a crack on one of the Golemon's spikes on his back. "SHINING SKEWER!" Caliber cries, flying straight into it while clad in blue energy. Then, everything went silent. No movement, no cries of battle...then, the Golemon becomes nothing but a set of 1's and 0's as it returns to data, vanishing from the naked eye.
both of the digimon de-evolve into their in-training stages, falling towards the ground....only for Tsumi to catch them, having run underneath them with all her might. "JEEZ! I was so worried! Are you two alright?!" She says, hugging the two baby-level digimon.
"Yeah, we're fine." "Yeah, perfectly fine." They both say, looking around the now-crumbling building. "We should go, Tsumi. Now."
A giant slab of stone falls down beside Tsumi, causing chills to run over her body, and enough energy is found to run to where she came from. Through the arena, through the room of sliced bamboo, and out the main door that was now wide open.
And right as she leaves the building, the supports give and it all falls...any remaining secrets gone in the rubble.
"Well....there weren't any answers for me, but we got those weird eggs...wait, where are they?! WAS THAT REALLY A ONE TIME THING?!" "No! They're in your digivice now, Tsumi." Dauntless says, bouncing out of her arms. "We can digivolve to the champion level now! Albeit, a weaker version of the champion level. Eventually we'll learn to do it on our own."
Tsumi lets Caliber bounce out of her arm as well, looking down at her digivice with a small frown. "That's....good....but what was that voice that gave it to us?" "Beats me. Sometimes stronger digimon are able to command weaker ones like that Golemon. Whatever it was, it had to have been really strong!" "AND I COULDN'T FIGHT IT!" "You would have died." "Of joy. After winning."
While her two digimon continued to bicker, Tsumi could only look at her digivice.... 'Why did this lead me here....Dad? Are you up to this? Or...' She shakes her head, and frowns. 'No. They have to be related somehow.'
"Tsumi! Let's go back to Rustport and eat! I miss my legs!" The Kakkinmon named Dauntless demands. "Yeah, and I want my strength back! Let's GOOOO"
Tsumi just giggles, and nods. "Yeah, alright. Lets go."
And so they ended their journey for the day, heading off towards Rustport. The sun sets and night greets the digital desert...the group will most likely have to set up camp before they get back to town.
All the while, a mysterious and tiny shadow watches them from behind a stone pillar from the ruins. A pair of glowing eyes looking at the twin digimon...a tail flicks behind it, and with a single jump it completely vanishes. It seems that this gang of newly-introduced younglings has a stalker...
