“Hm.. ‘Credits for Science’.. Eh?” The kokabuterimon’s skepticism screamed loudly despite his disinterested and monotone reaction to the flier Zoya held up for him. It looked like a piece of paper she had snatched off of a light pole or building wall. Which could very well have been the case given they were walking the streets of the busier part of Terminus City.
“Credits!” announced the woman lively as she jabbed a finger onto the paper to where monetary symbols were printed. “I do not have yen to spare for this world. So we must make credits, friend!” Overall, Zoya seemed pretty happy with herself at having found some kind of work that she could actually do. Still being new to the Digital World the woman was still soaking in all the new sights and mind bending phenomena.
“..but if we spent less time drinking in pachinko parlors..?” It was a rhetorical question to be fair, and one that Kapitan fully expected to remain unanswered. Despite his insectoid eyes not having any pupils as well, he was sure his question and his stare bored straight into the human’s soul.
“Like I said: I do not have yen to spare!” Zoya said cheerfully enough, even going so far as to hold her hands up to her sides in an easygoing shrug. “So we must be self sufficient in this world. We do this small job, and that is a big step in the right direction!” Her hands moved to confidently rest upon her hips as she nodded assuredly.
“Okay? So what is the job, then?” The digimon didn’t want to admit it, but his curiosity was getting the better of him.
“Participate in the survey!” She gave a thumbs up to her partner believing the credits were already theirs. “Able bodied and healthy people only! That is me!”
“That is a guinea pig!” shot back Kap incredulously.
The laboratory’s address turned out to be a tall office building in downtown, and from its outward appearance nothing marked it as anything special. The directory next to the elevators on the first floor listed various businesses located throughout the building, but only one was listed for the tenth floor.
“That is the one, Byte Enterprise,” Zoya said as she confirmed the information with her flier.
“Curious that they are the only ones on that floor?” asked Kap out loud as he tilted his head to the side. “The other floors do not seem like they are low on businesses?”
“Hard to say,” commented the woman as she turned to thumb the call button for the elevators. “Maybe they had some recent vacancies? My boyfriend said that sometimes that happens in his office.”
“Is that so? I see. When will you let me meet him, anyways?” Stepping beside his partner Kapitan glanced up at the numerical displays above the closed elevator doors.
“When you choose a less intimidating holosuit. Even if I introduce you as a friend it will still look strange.” Zoya folded her arms across her chest, giving the bug digimon a weary look. This was not the first time they had this conversation.
The only response she ended up getting was a mumbled excuse as Kap shook his head.
The elevator ride was brief, and upon their arrival to the tenth floor they both were surprised to step out onto the laboratory floor. There were no walls or dividers, other than the outer four that gave the building its box shape. Everything minus the elevator shafts had been gutted and removed. White tiles covered the floor and bright white lights were evenly spaced out in the ceiling above. Various machines that looked like they belonged in science fiction, even here in the digital world, took up most of the space. Cables and tubes ran to and fro along the floor haphazardly, and some even hung down from the ceiling.
“Cool,” breathed out Zoya as she tried to take in all the sights.
“Ugh,” came Kapitan’s more tired response to the inorganic jungle surrounding them.
“HELLO!” Boomed in an artificial voice from behind the two. The owner, a calcumon, hardly seemed bothered by the startled reaction it earned from its visitors, and happily prattled along. “Welcome to Byte Enterprise, where we’re engineering the future and upgrading the present. What is your directive, today?”
“Directive?” echoed Zoya as she tried to regain her composure from the sudden jump. “Uh, we are here about this flier?” Removing the paper from her pocket she then unfolded it and held it up for the robotic digimon.
“Directive confirmed! Please follow me.” Without waiting the calcumon floated off down a path between all the machinery. “Will you both be interacting with this exercise?”
“No, I will not,” answered Kap as he followed behind Zoya.
“Disappointing, but adequate!” chimed in the calcumon as it motioned for Zoya to stand on a raised portion of the floor, spanning about fifty square feet. Once the human had done as asked the digimon tapped away at the buttons on its arms. “Payment will be transferred upon completion of the exercise!”
“Hey, what is this exercise anyway-” A flash of blue light cut Zoya off causing her to hold up her arms defensively in reflex. She shuddered as she felt a tingle rise up her spine. Lines of blue light formed a grid in the air in the space she stood in, filling up all of the raised portion of the floor up to the ceiling.
“Digital cloning! You may feel a moment of discomfort. Please stand still.” The calcumon’s fingers continued to tap away.
“Hey, is this safe?” asked Kapitan as he looked up to the robotic digimon.
“Variably,” answered the calcumon honestly but impassively. “The clones are perfect physical replicas, and memory has been successfully duplicated before as well. Personality abnormalities have proven to be the only setbacks at the moment.”
As the calcumon spoke another Zoya materialized in the grid of light in front of the human. The clone was even dressed like her, down to the rolled up flier hanging out of a back pocket. Zoya herself was amazed by what she saw, and reached out a hand slowly to touch the clone as it became conscious and self aware.
“Wait, what was that you said?” Kapitan didn’t have to wait for an answer. He watched as the clone smiled at Zoya before grinning to itself in a smug manner. Before Zoya’s hand could touch the clone, the clone grabbed her arm, pulled, and spun, flipping Zoya onto her back. “Zoya!” The bug digimon took a step towards the raised platform, but the calcumon blocked his path with an outstretched arm.
“Setbacks,” echoed the digimon as it tapped away at more buttons on its arms rapidly. “The human will assist us in correcting these abnormalities.”
“Excuse me?!” gasped out Zoya as she quickly rolled out of the way of a dropping foot from the clone. “What is this?!” The woman quickly backed off with her fists raised, staring at her double in disbelief.
“The scan that copied her data has also compiled a list of available functions, here.” A holographic screen opened up in front of the calcumon as it gestured to the information populating its display.
“Are these.. Fighting moves?!” asked Kapitan in a dubious voice. “And I am required for some of them! So I am going in to fix your mess!”
Character Breakdown:
Float like a butterfly and sting like a beetle! This dynamic duo adapts to the situation as required. Even when fighting separately the two power each other up with friendly bickering, and can deliver powerful blows to the opposition when swapping in or out with each other. Their fighting style is very much up close and personal with Zoya having coached Kapitan in a kickboxing style her brothers had taught her. Kapitan has further developed his skills to be adept at grappling, which can be a potent combination for finishers with his high damage output. Zoya on the other hand specializes in rapid combos wearing the opponent down for Kap to take advantage of.
Command List: Zoya
Basic Attacks
A quick jab with Zoya’s fist. Repeated uses string into a quick but lightly damaging combo as she alternates fists, and finishes with a cross punch after two jabs.
A frontal kick, striking with the ball of the foot. Good for poking at enemies who keep their distance, or forcing an enemy to back off.
A roundhouse kick aimed at the body. Generally the heaviest of Zoya’s stationary basic attacks.
Lowers her upper body briefly before unwinding a heavy uppercut. Effective at countering sloppy aerial opponents, or taking advantage of delays in enemy attacks. Briefly staggers opponents on the ground, or knocks them out of the air on successful hits.
A low kick to the opponent’s leg from the side aimed at destabilizing her opponent. Effective at halting unguarded advancing opponents.
Gets low and sweeps the legs out from under her opponent. Successful contact will knock down an opponent.
(in the air) Superman Punch! A heavy cross punch that can floor airborne enemies if it lands or stagger back unguarded standing enemies. ‘How does a Superman Punch work when you’re jumping backwards in the air’ you ask? Never underestimate sheer force of will and countless hours of hero training!
(in the air) A forward facing jumping kick that aims high, regardless of the direction Zoya is jumping. Can knock down aerial opponents if it hits.
(in the air) A fully committed dropkick with both legs to the front, regardless of the direction Zoya is jumping. Zoya will take a brief moment to stand back up after landing on the ground. Deals heavy damage and knocks down opponents if it successfully connects with a target.
Zoya steps forward with a haymaker punch from her back hand. Good for pushing blocking enemies back or circumventing the blocks of inexperienced fighters.
Hops forward with a sidekick. A good maneuver to avoid low attacks while keeping up the pressure.
Leaps forward with a flying knee attack. Usually aimed at the head, but can be useful for wearing down an opponent with an unexpected body shot. Can stagger enemies back if it connects with a target.
Zoya quickly steps forward spinning as she does so, and delivers a backfist aimed at the head.
A quick hop backwards. Useful for making distance if trying to avoid slow heavy attacks.
Spins to perform a back kick aimed high. High damage, but if blocked it takes a brief moment for Zoya to reset her stance.
Throws
+Grabs an opponent by the shoulders before headbutting them in the face, and finally strikes them in the chest with the heel of her palm, knocking them backwards and down.

Counter
+Parries a standing attack with her hardlight baton before countering with a punch to the opponent’s face, knocking them down. Zoya is left exposed for a moment if the counter fails.

Hops forward with a side kick, then spins for a reverse kick with the opposite foot, and finishes with a front kick, pushing the opponent backwards.
Special Moves
+++Taunts the enemy while pointing at them, telling her opponent there’s still time for them to back down peacefully. When used against someone smaller than herself, Zoya will instead make a show of putting a hand against her forehead and sighing, lamenting that the situation deteriorated into violence. Zoya’s bravado increases her movement speed slightly for a short duration.
Character Swap
Jumps into the scene with a flying kick, landing where Kapitan makes room for her. Takes a moment to stand and point at the enemy saying a heroic one liner. Can hit an opponent during her entrance for light damage.
