Two Egos Collide! (Private)

Carlos had to admit, Mary wasn't wrong. It was almost like giant egos came naturally to impmons in general, even the mildest examples he could think of sure showed a good deal of self love.
"Eh, you got that much right." The man said with a shrug, lightly slapping his own open palm against the short digimon's paw. Sure, they weren't on the best of terms but he wasn't about to leave her hanging either, that was just needlessly rude!
Truth be told, Carlos barely acknowledged Teach's little rant at first. "Great, they really are two peas in a pod." He thought to himself while rolling his eyes, knowing full well Dio would do the same in their places were switched. And of course fear was strong, it's what helped keep even the dumbest of creatures from jumping into certain death.
Usually.
When his indifference changed however was when Teach began getting a bit more personal. Blaming him for Dio being in this state. Though to be honest, while Carlos certainly did not believe a single bile word spewed by Teach for a second, it didn't mean he wasn't bothered by them. Honestly, were he not under threat of being zapped, he might have tried to interrupt him with some foul language. Unfortunately he was forced to sit there and take it, his angered expression only changing into one of concern as he saw the pirate's sharp tail aiming for his partner's chest.
What could only have been a couple seconds or minutes for everyone else, for Dio it instead felt like an eternity. Locked in this void of black skies and white noise, he felt any more time here would only make him go mad. No matter how loudly he yelled, he couldn't hear anything other than that vile purring. That is until he barely heard a voice, only slightly audible above the deafening sound.
"Pathetic."
His eyes went wide as he glanced around, trying to find the source of the voice. Nothing, just pure blackness...and a pair of yellow eyes glaring daggers at him in the distance. He reeled back in surprise, but soon stopped himself. The purring didn't belong to those eyes.
"Pathetic." The voice repeated, the eyes slowly getting closer to him. He tried to back away but his feet wouldn't move, as if the sand had suddenly turned into glue. "Look at you. Scared, whimpering wretch. Who could even look up to you?"
The voice taunted him as the eyes were practically on his face now. Now it made sense why he couldn't make out anything besides the eyes, the body the voice belonged to was as black as the void the imp was stuck in. Not that he needed it to recognize who the voice belonged to.
It couldn't be Gio. It wasn't Gio. He wasn't even this articulate. Yet it didn't matter, because that's who was standing right next to him, glaring at him with a hatred that was almost as palpable as the darkness surrounding them.
"Oh no, look at that, someone's not having a good time. You're going to cry now, little bitch?" A different, mocking voice spoke from behind Dio, and he didn't even need to turn around to know who it was. Not that he could, it was like his entire body had been frozen solid. "If you can't even save yourself, why would anyone bother to help you? You're dead weight. Completely full of hot air and nothing else!"
He felt a gloved hand slapping him on the back of his head, making him go down face first into the dirt. He couldn't even move enough to roll to his side, not that it mattered as he soon felt something kicking him on the stomach, forcing the imp to roll and face back upwards, only to be stared down by both Carlos and Gio. Both glaring at him with those unnatural eyes, Carlos grinning with sadistic glee, Gio without a single emotion besides contempt.
"You always be calling names and talking big, but when push comes to shove?" "Carlos" shruged, giving a knowing look to "Gio".
"You deflate like a balloon and need others to clean up after you."
Dio wanted to yell, to get up and bite their ankles, to run away, to just do anything to make this all stop. But he couldn't. He simply couldn't move a muscle. All the while the other two continued, pressing their foot down against the imp's chest.
"You can't get up."
"You can't fight back."
"You can't even scream."
"Why do you even bother breathing at this point?"
"Everybody pities you."
"Everybody finds you insufferable."
"Everybody would be better off without you."
"Everybody who?"
"Everybody you ever cared about."
All the while two black tendrils had slowly crept up from the duo's back, slowly intertwining into a single twisted, jagged yet sharp stinger of an appendage. Dio didn't even have enough time left to attempt to move before he felt a searing pain as it plunged deep into his chest.
It almost came as a relief to be able to scream, even though the sheer flash of light in his eyes nearly made him go blind, and the fact he had something sharp piercing him through his chest. He finally fell to his knees, as if the sudden weight of everything he had seen made itself manifest on his shoulders, all the while he clutched at his chest where he had been stabbed, small trails of data pouring out from it.
"DIO!" This was enough. It didn't matter what they had said to eachother or how they felt, seeing his friend in this amount of pain was enough for the man, who quickly rose to his feet. Gio though? He didn't even wait, he took off immediatelly, his eyes practically pure yellow now that his pupils had turned into angry slits. The small lizard practically ran on all fours as he rushed from his seat and straight for the captain, his face distorted into a pure feral expression of primal hate.
"You leave. Him. ALONE."

Who would've thought that the pet still have a voice to scream? At this point Teach already did what he want so he might as well toy with whats left of the so called "Dark Lord" of course there was a pesky little annoyance running his way and unlike the "dark lord" Teach was aware of the problem the Guilmon could be but fortunately he had his crew for this situation.
As the black Guilmon sprinted towards the captain Mary dropped her "good" frog facade and without losing a second she took a jump forward and shoot an electric sphere towards the rampaging dinosaur, if the attack hit she would turn and make a sign of "I'm watching you" to Carlos before hopping to the Captain's side
"Listen kiddo" Teach addressed Gio "I don't have a problem with you because so far you've been a good guest unlike Mr. Dark Lord, so I suggest you to lay down and stay quiet unless you also want to face your worst nightmare"
With that said the Captain turn his back and leave Gio under the watching eyes of Mary again, as said before Teach has done what he wanted and now it's time to have some extra fun after all not every day you get to flex this hard on someone like today, he walked towards Dio and look him down with a smug grin who knows what he saw on that little lapse of time but it must've been pure horror to froze him like that
"Rise and shine Mr. Dark Lord we are not done yet... Unless of course this is the limit of what you can do~"
As all this was happening Anne finally stepped out of the cabbing holding a plate with several juice boxes that she quickly dropped once she saw everything that was happening, to say that she was feeling horrible was an understatement and so the bird was going to put an end to this but first she flew towards Carlos perching herself on the man's shoulder
"OK I think we can both agree this has gone far enough, right?" She tilted her head looking at the Tamer "I'll create a distraction as soon as I do grab your partners and jump into the raft, I'll take you back to the Whitewater afterwards, deal?"
Whether the human accepted or not the little bird was already on the air about to drop in the middle of the whole commotion and just like before she started singing and dancing around which prompted all rookies on the area (so basically everyone but Carlos) to dance along with her, this was the chance for Carlos to make his move and if he for some reason decides to not do anything at the very least the bird has reach a cease fire for the moment.

But it didn't matter what Teach said, to Gio it was all worthless. As stiff and unresponsive as his muscles were from that shock, the only thing keeping him from listening to a single word from the pirate was how much red he was seeing and hearing, his mind transformed into a engine fueled by hate. Even as he futilely tried to get back on his feet, in between snarls and heavy breathing he still found the energy to talk back to the pirate.
"Shut...up. Shut up!" He growled in a low voice, a far cry from the peppy attitude he had shown but a couple seconds ago. "Picking on others and...acting angry when they call you out on it...you're no better." He dug his claws deep in the sand, slowly but surely getting a grip as his body began to become less numb. While it was somewhat vague who that last comment was aimed at, it was clear his anger was almost exclusively aimed at the captain...almost.
Dio wasn't faring much better meanwhile, unable to do much right now other than clutch at his open wound and glare daggers at the other imp. He wasn't sure what hurt more, his head, his chest, or being brought this low by a common thug like Teach. He would have loved to have a clever comeback to his taunts, or even enough strenght to toss some more sand on his face. But no, he wasn't in any shape to do that much...besides off the power he was focusing on his free hand that is. All he needed was some more time before he could his fist deep into Teach's rotten core.
Or at least that was the plan, but Anne had other plans. After quickly instructing the tamer she took flight and put herself in the middle of the action. A moment later, Gio would find himself dancing obliviously her song, so would Dio if he could have gotten back on his feet, but he seemed too content by the music to do anything harmful anymore. This was Carlos' chance and he wasn't going to ruin it. He rushed for the small imp first, cradling his small body in his arms before trying to place him somewhere over his shoulder, the dark lord hanging limp from the man's body like a sack of potatoes. Gio was considerably harder to lift, considering the size and weight difference with his far smaller brother, but Carlos eventually managed to lift him, keeping him from falling by partially carrying the weight with his knees. With a quick and very thankful nod of his head towards the bird, he quickly (or as much as he could carrying two rookies) made his way towards the raft, and let himself fall back first into the small boat, momentarily losing his breath as the weight of Gio crushed his chest.
Hopefully though they'd be able to get out of there soon, but it was anyone's guess what would happen with them once the trance was broken...

It didn't took too long for the bird's attack to take effect and put the captain and frog into dancing uncontrollably, this for sure was going to spell out problems for Anne later but at this point that didn't matter she just wanted this to be over and go back have a good time and think of adventures, this time the captain has gone too far for the bird's taste.
Once she saw the tamer grab his partners and dive into the raft the Piyomon flew towards her tower and picked up a rope before diving down towards the trio of guest, she would give the rope to Carlos and ask him to tie it to her talons and hold tight the other side of the rope, once that was done she would take fly and if Carlos hold tight she would pull the raft at first slowly but soon it would move at a decent pace helped by the waves of the sea
"All good down there?" She asked looking at Carlos
After a couple of minutes the two mon left on the small island would be free from the dance fever that they got put in buy the bird, saying that Teach wasn't angry would be a lie as the captain was fuming by the treason of her navigator and chef! Mary on the other hand wasn't so bothered by her friend doing it and more that she couldn't make a quick deal with the human and take something from him
"Easy there cap'n, you prove your point take the win and let's eat something" Said the frog as she pick one of the many sandwiches that were on the sand
"Look! I do not get the chance to gloat as often specially against this partnereds dorks, why is it so bad that I want to have my fun without getting stomped in one second?" The captain complain taking one of the juice boxes
"Eh? We'll get our chances in the future I'm sure of it, maybe we should prove our strength in numbers rather than just raw strength?"
"A bigger crew would be nice yes... OK this is an order, let's finish all this sandwiches and juice boxes then proceed to think of possible crewmates for our Pirate group!"
"Aye aye cap'n!"
After an hour or so flying they would start reaching the coast of whitewater and the Piyomon would make a bee line there almost diving into the sand completely exhausted as she rarely flies this much or carries that much weight, she would just lay there face down on the sand catching her breath looking at the group within the corner of her eye
"Could you please untie me before leaving and tell your friends to not hurt me, maybe?" Honestly she didn't know how the two mon would be feeling but better not get caught up in their rightful anger "Once again let me apologize on behalf of my friend and captain... If... If I can do something else to repay you I'll do it..." She said huffing and puffing slowly standing up tho the trio could easily tell how exhausted she was due to how her wings were just hanging by the side of her body not even making an effort to move them

Their journey was a short and uneventful one, barely interrupted by the odd small wave crashing against the boat, or the heavy breathing from the unconscious imp. They made their way back to a different shore soon enough, and when they did Carlos was quick to carefully place the twins down by the shade, before turning back to the tired bird and, after a moment of consideration, helped her back into the boat too.
"Don't...don't worry about it, ok?" He said, shaking his head. "You helped us out and that's that, you're fine in my book." While he himself wasn't entirely sure of what his feelings right now were, he still figured it was better to at least try to bury the hatchet between at least one member of the crew. Her help was undeniable.
As he turned away from her to check on the other two, he'd find the twins had begun to slowly get back up, looking a bit confused as to their sudden change of location.
"Wh-what...happened?" Dio was the first to ask, blinking slowly as if waking up from a long na
"She put everyone but me into a trance and helped me get you two out." Carlos replied, pointing to the Piyomon, to which the two twins reacted in rather predictable fashion: Gio seemed rather happy for this, beaming at the bird whilst wagging his tail back and forth, whilst Dio...well he gave her one hell of a glare, before looking back at Carlos with just as much of an intense look.
"And that changes things how?" Clearly, her stunt hadn't been nearly enough for the imp to forgive her over her previous slight.
"Dude, can you give it a rest?" The man said, clearly not wanting to keep this petty party going.
"Are you kidding? I was barely getting started! Why did you do intervene? Bet it was to save her precious captain. I had him, I was this close to-"
"No you weren't! Look at you." Carlos interrupted the imp, clearly growing more exhasperated by the minute, though still somewhat still sympathetic to the imp's plight. "He could have hurt you badly."
"This?" The imp looked down at the gaping wound on his chest, the one he had been clutching with one hand this entire time. He turned away from the human as he shook his head, "It's a flesh wound, I've had worse...but now I've been made to look weak." He added trying to take a couple confident steps to show his point, though this was somewhat lost at the clear wobbliness of his movements. Gio quickly moved to his side, trying to offer his shoulder for Dio to lean on. The imp looked at him for a long while however, his expression an inscrutable blank.
"Did I ask for help?" He finally saod back in a trembling tone, prompting a confused glance from the guilmon. Before he got the chance to answer however he found himself being shoved away by the imp, his movements somehow not lacking in strenght despite his weakened look, as if the rage in his look was enough to move mountains.
"DID I EVER ASK FOR HELP?" He practically screeched out, pushing the lizard again and again. "Did I ever, EVER ask any of you to get involved?!"
Gio looked perplexed, hurt, even though the strenght of the imp wasn't anywhere enough to actually hurt or even push him around. Carlos by now had had enough, and put himself in between the two brothers, though that didn't stop Dio's fruitless shoving any.
"Dio let's settle down...you're being-" But Dio had enough with his attempts at diplomacy.
"OH. Well EXCUSE me! Would you rather we sit like nice pets? Hug it out and talk our differences it like nothing bad ever happened? That sure worked out great for you back there, didn't it?!" The imp's tone grew more and more angry with each word, to the point he was practically seething by the end. So much so even Carlos found it hard to retort, being too perplexed at the sheer anger in the imp's voice.
"Dude I-"
"No! I'm sick of that, sick of you being a passive observer that still tries to be all holier than thou when everyone else struggles! Of course you can't mess up if you NEVER DO ANYTHING!"
"That's not what-"
"And why are you still defending her?! Just because she did one good thing?" He interrupted yet again, now angrily pointing his index at the bird, almost as if mentally throwing a fireball at her.
"...at least she tried to stop things."
Both human and imp paused for a moment, exchanging an equally surprised look before they turned to look at the black guilmon. Gio now glared back, an upset grimace on his muzzle as he squinted at the imp, his eyes looking a bit brighter than usual. As if holding back tears.
"Yeah you heard me! And she wasn't the one that started a fight out of nowhere!" He added, stomping on his foot while confirming the duo's suspicions. Carlos' shock lasted longer than Dio's however, as the purple digimon was quick to snap out of it and retort to the guilmon's angry callout.
"Out of nowh- are you kidding me?! They picked it first! We didn't frame anyone in front of the cops!" He exlaimed, indignation dripping from every scale on his body.
"Oh, I guess I didn't hear the part where they also said they would burn our home." The dinosaur said, an uncharacteristic amount of venom in his words.
"That's...that's different!" For once Dio seemed at a loss for words. "I wasn't gonna...it was just intimidation tactics!"
"So you're just a bully like he is!" The guilmon spat, his loud and indignant tone finally high enough to meet Dio's head on. Something the imp did not take kindly to at all, his tone lowering as his voice seethed.
"Don't. Compare me. To that fucker."
"THEN STOP ACTING LIKE HIM!"
"Guys holy shit! Settle down, you're just..." Carlos said, trying to use his arms to keep the two twins away with a small degree of success. "...let's calm down a bit before-" But once again Dio turned his attention to him, even angrier than before.
"Before we do something? Heaven forbid, we actually DO something for once. That's your solution to everything isn't it? Be a passive observer, thinking you're oh so above everything just because you do jack!"
"Dio enough! You're being irrational!" Carlos said, unable to act calm any longer.
"WELL EXCUSE ME, MISTER RATIONAL! Would you rather I sit next you and drool on your lap like a good pet?"
"Well, if that would make you less of an asshole then-"
"Stop! This is all wrong..." Now it was Gio's turn to try and keep the two apart, now looking more upset than angry. Which only seemed to anger Dio more...
"Oh what's wrong, is the dummy feeling overwhelmed now? Would you rather go back to having sandwiches with the enemy? Maybe hug it out and nap? Would you rather go back to that gilded cage of yours and be his dumb pet? I bet you have plenty experience with that!"
"I'm...I'm not a-" The guilmon now stammered, unsure what to even say at this. He had never been confronted about that before and now all of the sudden Dio just...threw it all in his face for all to see. How was he supposed to react?
"Then act like it! Have some damn dignity for once! Use your damn brain if you have it-" He didn't get to say more as a hard palm smacked him on the face, silencing him. The imp froze for a moment, completely in shock as he slowly raised his glance, looking at the human with...confusion? Disdain? Everything at once? Even if he had had something to say, Gio managed to say his word first.
"...of course I don't." He said, his voice shaking yet almost completely void of emotion. "You're...always so perfect, aren't you? Always so cool, so smart and strong. Why an idiot pet ever thought he could help? You don't need help." He turned from the duo, slowly walking in the opposite direction. Slowly sure, but with no signs of stopping.
"You're beyond help."
Carlos was the first to move, his hand reaching out to grab at the digimon's claw, but as his grip clenched shut the dinosaur's body turned to soot and smoke, an amorphous cloud that flew away faster than Carlos could blink, let alone chase after, leaving him to stare in shock at the wild shrubbery in front of him, completely at a loss. This felt like a nightmare, it had to be one.
"...never asked anyone for help." He heard the voice of the imp mutter behind him, the slightest hint of regret in his tone. Not that Carlos cared at this point. With almost uncanny speed he turned back to face the imp right next to him, his face one of hurt and anger. So much so the imp looked taken aback for a moment, his frown trembling for a moment, betraying the fact that for the first time in a while he seemed to regret the weight behind his words. Perhaps that's why, almost in an attempt to save face, he turned himself away from the man, and too began walking away, without another word. Carlos was not having it however.
He reached forth and tightly grabbed the imp's tiny hand, his grip probably strong enough to cause the creature at least some discomfort.
"Don't you dare walk away from this." He snarled, though his voice soon broke down. "Please just...talk to me."
"...now you try to do something." With what could only be described as a mocking cry the imp's hand slip from the man's grip, leaving his small red glove in Carlos' hand as he began sprinting away, as if the wound on his chest wasn't there. Carlos tried to run after, before being met a handful of small burning embers narrowly grazing his cheek, forcing him to stop as the burning pain began. He noticed the imp stopping as well, looking back at the man with regret in his look...before he bit his lip and continued running, soon dissapearing into the trees and leaving the hurt man behind.
Carlos stood there for what felt like months, years. His mind still trying to process just what had happened, if any of this was a real or not. After five long minutes he eventually punched some buttons on his digivice, and returned from the digital plane to the Earthly one, at some point assuming this entire situation to just be a bad, bad dream. Eventually he made his way to his appartment bed, before letting himself fall into it without even bothering to cover himself with blankets. He wondered if the other two would be doing the same at this point as he closed his eyes.
It took until the morning sun to hit him in the face for him to finally accept this was not a dream.
