The great glowing orb that was the digital sun slowly began to set on the horizon as evening slowly took hold of the Server Woods, not that it was readily apparent for anyone within the greenery, as the depths of the forest were already plenty dark for the sun to really make much of a difference. Still, as the few visible patches of sky began to turn from blue to a dark orange, Carlos would take a look above, then down to his side, facing the imp and lizard walking beside him. They had set out on a sort of hiking trip as a bit of a self imposed training to prepare themselves for whatever Knight business they might had to deal with in the future. And what better way to improve on a bunch of areas at once than surviving on the wilderness?
"Now what?" The imp next to Carlos asked, looking back with eyes tired at the man. The guilmon to him tilted his head. "Are we going home already?"
"It's getting late." He replied, as he took off his backpack and began unloading it's contents into the ground. "We should set up a camp now while we still have some light."
"Can't we just get back to Shibuya and come back tomorrow?" Dio asked, a hint of annoyance in his tone.
"Something something...time dilation. And come on, it's way more fun this way." The dyed hair man said with a shrug, turning his attention back to his camping equipement.
Dio let out a yawn, but didn't try to think of any more convincing comebacks, instead letting himself fall on his rump as he contemplated the man struggling to set up a tent. The blackguilmon looked closely, curious but unsure of how he could begin to help, if indeed Carlos even needed help. After around twenty minutes of work their place to sleep and stay the night was set to go. Dio didn't even wait for the sleeping bags to be fully prepared before he practically threw himself inside the tent, already intent on taking a rest and call it a day.
As for the other two? They quietly sat outside the tent for a bit longer, taking in the cold but quiet and relative calm of the evening light of the forest. Carlos considered for a moment making a fire, but eventually decided against it, figuring if anything it would probably attract unwanted attention. So he simply sat there, eyes fixated on the small patch of sky that was still visible between the many branches and leaves of the treetops above.

Sunset.
The end of the day. The impetus of the evening. For some it was the end of a day of tribulations, tribulations that had been ingrained to the point that they were routine. For the one who had seen the abyss, it was just another horrible night to bear a curse.
A curse passed on through the ages.
Everything was a blur for the Kotemon as he trudged through the Server Woods, but he found himself in a place where his vision had cleared. No longer assailed by what could be, what will be, and what ultimately was not to be. This was a familiar place...
Yes, this was where you fought them. Your best friend. Your own daughter. The people who'd stick their neck out for her.
And yet those people'd come back after that. At the very edge of the would-be campsite stood the Kotemon. A relic of a time long past. "...You look well." A familiar, robotic voice droned on. Well, familiar to Carlos and Dio if they cared enough. To Gio? This would be someone completely unfamiliar. Why was he brought here? For what...purpose? How long would it be until the visions started again?

As the sun set more and more and the shadows of the trees grew more in size, it slowly dawned on the man just how quiet the forest got at night, so it should come as no surprise how startling it was for Carlos and Gio to suddenly hear a rather monotone, almost robotic voice speaking up at them. They quickly looked around, their eyes darting across the nearby trees, bushes and branches, only to be then met face to face by a kotemon looking at them from within shadows of the forest.
"H-hi there?" The man both greeted and asked cautiously, a bit too taken aback by the rookie sneaking up on them to really register anything else. Gio meanwhile seemed rather nonplussed by this, all thing considered: beyond his initial surprise all one could disern from his expression as he looked up and down at the kotemon was just a general air of confusion, unsure what to make or how to feel about this new arrival.
"Who goes there?" The rather whiny voice of the impmon soon cried out from inside the tent, a hint of annoyance in his voice probably due to being denied a power nap. By now Dio had heard the small commotion going on outside the tent, and had poked his head out to check on the other two. As his eyes met the lightly armored digimon outside, his expression quickly shifted between a surprised and aprehensive one, to a squint of his eyes.
"...we've met before, haven't we?" He said, steping out of the tent and standing next to both human and guilmon. That observation seemed to trigger something in Carlos' memory, because his expression soon changed as well, as he finally began to put two and two together, sparse images in his mind slowly coming together to make a full picture.
Mae. A rabid swordsmon. This very forest. They had already met this kotemon before, or at least one very, very similar.
"You're..." Dio started, before falling silent for a moment looking deep in thought. He had this Kotemon's name on the tip of his tongue. What was it again? Creepy? Capo? Whatever the name, it was obvious where he knew him from at least. "...that guy. We fought you way back when Mae lived here. Big angry digimon with a weird arm."
"Yeah!" Carlos exclaimed, nodding as his mind finally connected the dots. "It's...sure been a while hasn't it?" He added, sounding just a bit unsure . "Are you related to Mae?" The guilmon suddenly questioned as he finally opened his mouth, giving the others a confused look. "I mean they kinda smell and feel similar..." He said, trying to explain himself. Dio merely shrugged as a response, looking rather unsure himself. Were they related? Probably not something one should ask as an introduction, but then again Gio's tact was never exactly his strongest skill.

The Kotemon stepped forward and into the fading light to be greeted with the other Impmon (the beta male) from that day staring at him from the tent. "Yes. We have." He replied. Short and sweet.
It was a bit amusing that the Impmon could not recall his name. For he couldn't really remember Dio's name either. "At least one real world year has passed since that day. I owe you all for that." ...Monotony aside, there was at least one twinge of being grateful within the Kotemon's voice.
"Plus, I've gotten better from the lack of an arm." Amazing, right? And no need for a funny mechanical arm out of nowhere. The BlackGuilmon, though...He was new. The Kotemon stared. "In a sense, yes. The one called Fatebreaker is made from half of myself." If he had a face, one could bet their entire ass that he'd be cringing his goddamn eyes out by this point.
"...It would not be inaccurate to call me a cat dad." A rather hollow joke in his honest opinion. "Are you related to the Dark Lord over there?"

If nothing else, it was good to know not only that this Kotemon was indeed the same from before, but that he was just as direct as ever.
"Don't mention it. You didn't seem like yourself, so it's not like you're responsible for your past actions." Dio said with a shrug, his tone sounding genuenly humble and sincere for a change, or at least not particularly smug about the whole ordeal. He meant every word surprisingly enough, and seemed a bit surprised but content at Kappy's arm speedy recovery.
Gio meanwhile noded a bit at the kotemon's reply. He didn't quite see the family resemblance between him and Mae, but then again Gio didn't quite look like his brother either, so that was kind of a moot point to bring up, even for him. As for Kappy's question?
"Yup!" Gio gave another strong nod of his head, patting the imp's head as he did, much to Dio's visible annoyance. "We're brothers!"
Dio would then point his index at a spot near the center of his chest, prompting Gio to do the same. It was around where their cores should be.
"Half and half, not unlike yourself." Granted, it probably was far more complicated than just that, but such details were a given. What certainly wasn't a given however, was a question that kept gnawing on the back of both the impmon's and human's mind, and they would be quick to point it out.
"So what you doing here, if you don't mind me asking? I think you said something about going to see the world back then."

...He didn't agree with that.
He didn't agree with that at all.
"Bullshit." The Kotemon's voice grew more strained. As if there was emphasis put there. "There exists a certain degree of accountability which I hold myself to. Lack of agency doesn't excuse attempted filicide, Dark Lord."
Yet, even despite the snippiness? One could not help but feel a smile wash over the tired critter at Gio's display of brotherhood towards the annoyed former Demon Lord. "Aye. Though, I've since regained the half used to make...Mae." That was about as simple as it could be put. But, Carlos did ask the good question.
"You're right. I did. And I went. I saw...much. Time flows differently here than in the world of the Humans, seven times faster. And things have changed...drastically since last I recall. The Demon Lords began moving again. One of the great Sovereigns came down, while another was given form and bested. I even heard word of things heating up on the other side." A bow of the head. "Good work in containing your successor, Sloth. You three, the knight's daughter, and the Fatebreaker all the same."
...How did he know this?
He was never here for any of those. He was never here for any of this. How...?
"...History being made. History I am a stranger to. I was only going to my favored spot in the Server Woods to rest my head a bit."
...
He didn't really have the heart to tell them he was going there to die, now, did he? Heartless as he was...
"What of yourselves, though? What has got you camping out in the literal haunted woods?"

While initially a bit taken aback by the kotemon's snippiness, it was hard to fault him for it. He knew there was plenty of reasons to blame himself for what he had done back then, regardless of being in control or not. Dio didn't quite agree with that sentiment, but knew better than to try and force him to chace his mind on it, so he simply gave an understanding nod. His next words adressing his and Mae's "half" however made the imp raise an eyebrow.
"Did Mae give that half back or it just sorta...happened?" He asked, too curious by the vague wording to be afraid of a long winded answer. Though regardless of if Kappy answered or not, what he did answer told them plenty about how the strange digimon had spent the last months, clearly making up for the time lost and seeing how things had changed in the world. He even let the trio know he had heard about their later exploits against a Demon Lord no less. It was hard for the trio not to share a smile over this, even just a little bit.
"Thanks. Couldn't have pulled it off without the help of your daughter and the rest though." Dio said in a quite rare moment of humility. Credit where credit was due, they were only here now thanks to the group's combined efforts...that and as much as he hated to admit it, it's not like he had done much himself against the current Sloth. Really, he was thankful Kappy wasn't aware of how...poorly his attempt at a fight with the giant demon had gone, or if he was aware he was at least nice enough not to rub it in.
Though Gio's smile would soon falter for a moment, replaced by a thoughtful expression at Kappy's final choice of words, specifically about being a stranger to history. Perhaps catching something the other two hadn't (or perhaps didn't want to bring up), or maybe just overthinking for once, the lizard couldn't help but innocently ask with a tilt of his head, "...are you feeling ok, mister?"
As for their reasons for being here yet again and on a camping trip, no less?
"Nothing too crazy surprisingly, just a hiking trip to a place we haven't been to in a while. Maybe a bit of nostalgia too." Carlos replied, giving a small shrug. "How about you? Walking down memory lane or just back here by chance?"

"Wounds heal." Was all Kappy had in him to reply on the topic of...halves. Weird as it was. He would not dare take more from the Meicoomon, for she had suffered more than enough for one lifetime, right?
"Of course. Many great feats over the course of history are rarely accomplished alone." That wasn't meant to be an insult. It was merely...fact. Definitives. Kappy was not going to mention how futile fighting one of THE Seven was in the visions, but the fact they survived one was...something to note. Of course, Gio saw fit to question the stranger.
"No. I find that at the moment, fear courses through my veins. Yet I do not feel like I'm about to falter." A simple answer. "Memory lane, and settling a score. Nothing...so simple as hiking. Though I wish it were that. I am only a stranger to history. An old man who's story should have ended long ago. Yet there remains one loose end. One final page in a tale much too long. I go to face it. And I go to die with it."
This wasn't the author being meta or anything. They swear.

As the conversation shifted away from any demonic related exploits, it didn't take much prodding on Gio's part to find out what Kappy was up to. His answer however was...far from reassuring.
The mood shifted considerably after that. A complete (if slightly awkward) silence fell upon the trio, any joviality in their expressions sapped away and replaced with just a general sense of uncertainty and most of all, concern.
It was hard to gauge how literally they were to take Kappy's words (specially the dying part), but from what little they had seen of him, he didn't strike them as the kind of mon to mince words or sugar coat things, so if he was being this blunt it was probably something to take if not at face value, then seriously at the very least.
Perhaps it was because of the ensuing silence and uncertainty on how to answer that Gio was yet again the one to eventually reply first. "That's...I'm sorry." He looked down, seemingly conflicted, as if unsure how was he supposed to feel or act about this whole thing. It didn't last long however, as he carefully made his way around the other two and out of the tent, before standing next to the kotemon, a smile and a nod accompanying his next words. "Can I go with, mister? If it's something that you're afraid of, there's no shame in asking for help. Carlos taught me that."
"I mean...do you even know what he means by that, Gio?" Gio simply shook his head, a look of blissful ignorance in his eyes. Clearly all he wanted was to help out, regardless of context or consequences. Carlos sighed, "Well...if that's alright with you. He seems pretty set on going and I'm not about to let him go alone again so..." With that the man too left the tent, taking his place close to the lizard.
True, neither him nor the twins really knew him, nor his reasons, nor his long story. For all they knew offering for help would only make things tougher on him. Yet they couldn't bring themselves to do anything less. And as for Dio's response to their sudden show of empathy'
"Eh why not, we weren't doing much anyways. It's your choice, Kappy." He shruged as he glanced at the kotemon. "Do be very clear if you don't want help though, these two idiots aren't ones to listen easily."

Indeed. There was not much one could say in response to that. Kappy had indeed never been one to mince words, and if he was led here...then he could only be one hundred percent serious, which in and of itself was kind of a problematic thing to even think of. Or put down!
The next question did bring pause to the Kotemon. He had been about to turn and depart to his demise, assumedly, but...Help? Asking for help was something he stopped doing a long, long time ago.
"...If you really insist. I would not wish to lead heroes to their own demise." There was something ironic about that statement. Yet, he didn't seem too...set on the decision. As if there were something guiding that allowance. And at the same time, something...stirred within the depths of the woods. Something that could be felt from where they were.
Isn't that scary? It's like posing artificial situations for the sake of drama. Except here, it's something that scared even the 'mon with a very flat personality.
"She stirs." The Kotemon uttered. Quietly. "Come. Strangers or not, this tale ends tonight." He decided, setting off. Assumedly with the King and the Lords of Sloth in tow. There was also something pretty goddamn ironic about Sloth being made to move. Deeper into the forest. Relevant Passives:

"Heh, how bad could it be?" Dio shrugged in response, a confident smirk in his face barely concealing the concern Kappy's quiet musing instilled in them. It was clear he didn't like their chances, though while this was mostly lost on Gio who was simply glad that the Kotemon didn't turn them down, Carlos's mind meanwhile latched onto a different word.
"Heroes"? Well, that sure had a nice ring to it, even if Carlos couldn't help but internally roll his eyes a bit at this. Their actions, while obviously far from being self centered weren't something he would call "heroic". To him something like that implied a complete level of altruism, like diving head first into a burning building in search of survivors, hardly something equivalent to taking up jobs with the hopes of monetary compensation, even if all of them were good natured and with the best interest of the digital world in mind.
Regardless of his somewhat conflicted feelings on the subject the man merely walked besides his partners, who in turn followed after the kotemon. It wouldn't take them long to feel...something. A subtle change in the air at first which soon became a thick atmosphere pressing down on them, like the change in air before a heavy storm. It was hard to pinpoint but whatever it was only got stronger as they went deeper into the woods. Even Carlos could notice whatever was out there...and in turn, the three couldn't help but know that it noticed them. In hindsight, camping out here suddenly didn't seem like such a good call anymore.
Even after Kappy's vague yet sufficiently ominous statement about "her"(?), they didn't dare ask for any more details, perhaps hoping whatever they were about to face would somehow end up not being as bad as they feared. An unlikely possibility to be sure, but better than the alternative.

"...Pretty bad." Came Kappy's reply. Whether there had been truth in his words about them being heroes, they were still something he'd call that. Even if they were admittedly poor heroes sometimes. They may not have been altruistic, but they were willing to step up and do the right thing at certain points. That is what made the foundations of a hero. The air chilled before them as they proceeded further and further into the forest, the dread setting in. Out of the corner of one's eye, they could notice something else watching them. A teenager, about sixteen, yet something about HIM was off in that...he seemed black and white. He seemed like he should not be there. A blink of the eye, and he was gone. Was...Was Kappy not going to mention that? No. That was unimportant. They seemed to walk for minutes, before Kappy suddenly came to a stop, as that sense of dread seemed to make itself strongest. He held a hand up for his company to stop, as from seemingly nowhere in the darkness of the woods, someone stepped forward. A woman who seemed a bit younger than Carlos. Brown hair (though obviously dyed) red eyes (contact lenses, definitely!), some height to her despite being Japanese. "Oh, hey, there you are, Kapps! I've been looking allover for you. Who're these guys...? Did you make some friends?"The dread was still there. The dread was ever stronger than before. And Kappy seemed frozen at this. Why? Was this his tamer? He even muttered something under his breath. "...You're supposed to be gone..." Relevant Passives:

At some point during their seemingly endless walk, the three of them could have sworn they saw a black and white, young ish looking figure looking at them from the bushes in the distance, but it was always gone the moment they turned to look directly. Where they seeing things now? Seemed like too much of a unhappy coincidence for that to be the case, really. Palpable dread, cold wind, and now freaking ghosts. Wasn't life in the digital world grand?
After some more walking they'd eventually reach their destination, or at least they assumed so judging by Kappy coming to a sudden stop. It didn't take much for them to know why, as they were quick to notice the seemingly normal human girl standing in front, all too cheerful and happy to see the small lightly armored lizard. A feeling he clearly did not reciprocate.
Somehow this out of every possibility that Carlos could conjure of what was waiting for them was worse than any other thing, the ghastly appearance in front of them seeming both too mundande yet incredibly out of place to be...real. Carlos couldn't help but think of a documentary he had seen years ago, about the bizarre creatures that lived at the deepest pits of the sea, in particular about the angler fish leading attracting preys with a pretty spec of light in the middle of the darkest abyss...
"Er...hi?" He cautiously greeted, more to fill the silence than anything. There was something incredibly off and unsettling in the air. And even if he had been dense enough not to notice what was wrong here, one needed only to give a quick glance at the twins to notice. Gio's entire frame was now lurching forward, his hands hanging almost low enough for his claws to reach the ground, his pupils now turned into cat like slits as a low growl reverberated through his tense and rigid body, his gaze never once looking away from the odd girl in front of them. This almost out of character behaviour would have been bad enough, yet Carlos knew it wasn't unfounded.
Kappy's own barely audible mutters only confirmed it further.
"You're not human...are you?" Was all Dio said, his words forming a question that he already suspected the answer to. The two brothers would take a single step forward, and another to the side, standing in between her, Carlos and Kappy.
"Whatever...whoever you are, please come clean." He said, hand grasping tightly at the digivice on his pocket, as if that would somehow help him steady the increasingly loud beating of his heart.

Did either of the three who weren't him knew what this was like? No. To them, it was seeing something that was not as it was. Something making a mockery of the dead. For Kappy...It was like being confronted with your failure. 1 day out there is seven in here. Aizawa Reika had died two human years ago. An eon longer here. The haze persisted, even as the woman kept up her smile. "Not gonna introduce me to your friends?" She'd ask Kappy, who remained silent. The woman was only met with a cold glare. "...Oh, I get it, now." That came after Dio had figured it out. The air behind the woman began to shimmer, as she let out a rather sinister giggle. "A smart meal, but...a empty one, nonetheless. Besides, you don't even deserve to know the name of this mongrel's...greatest failure. Oh, he loved the tamer...Yet he killed her. That's what you'd say. Right." It was at that moment that everything went to hell. For lightning sparked, touched the Kotemon as he stepped forth. Yet where claw would touch the ground, sabatons of blackened Digizoid would instead, as a Tactimon would bring down his ENTIRE SWORD, scabbard and all, upon the effigy. "Do not mock her." It snarled, yet... That moment of rage was all that was needed. The shimmering seemed to shatter akin to glass, like nothing had been there at all, as a Raguelmon that looked like SOMEBODY ELSE the twins might now leapt forth, the stinger swinging forth to pierce the chest of the Tactimon. "Dog." Was all it stated. "Be a rabid beast." It snarled as the Tactimon let out an enraged roar. The Raguelmon meanwhile kicked it away, leapt back, and opened a rift, escaping through it like a very convenient plot device. Kappy looked as if he were trying to speak, but... Words failed. Something was being held back. Yet not forever. Prepare. "...K-Kill me..."
A lot happened. The human was not real at all. Instead, a Raguelmon was revealed. It resembles someone you know, a little bit. But only malice pervaded it. Kappy warp digivolved into his mega level, Tactimon, and attempted to squash the effigy, only to be stung by the Raguelmon and afflicted with an unknown attack that seems to be eroding at...something in him. It will not last.

It didn't take a rocket surgeon to realized these two not only knew eachother, but likely shared some painful history. Her words and his reaction was evidence enough. The three were obviously missing context but...did it matter? They had come all this way already to help Kappy, and that's exactly what they were going to do...or at least that was the plan.
Before they could even do anything however Kappy took the initiative, discarding his rookie form for a more imposing mega one, yet that proved to be of little help in the end.
"NO!" Was all the man could muster out as he saw the tactimon be pierced by that stinger tail. A painful sight, especially for Dio, as he could feel an equally painful cold shoot through his entire being at this. It all brought all too unhappy memories, as if he needed any more reasons to despise this creature. Not that it mattered, as she dissapeared as quickly as she had first appeared, leaving through a crack in reality leaving Kappy behind with either a taunt, or an order. And clearly, something else inside the Tactimon. Something vile that prevented the heavy atmosphere of pure dread from leaving the trio, something very clearly made him a ticking time bomb.
"Carlos. Digivice, now." Dio said in an even, emotionless tone that did little to hide the way his body was trembling in...rage? Fear? Sadness? Regardless it took Carlos a moment to reply, his eyes locked on the Tactimon as his brain still seemed to try to rationalize what was happening, to convince himself this was but a bad dream.
"B-but...Kappy's..." Gio stammered, sounding as hesitant and distraught as Carlos looked.
"...we can't just..."
"I KNOW!" The imp finally snapped, cutting both off. "But we've seen this before, and you and me know both how it works, and how it all ends. Either we fight or we all die." They had been through this song and dance before, as painful as it was there was only one way out. Even the snarling Gio seemed to understand it on some level, even if he wasn't around for most of their unfortunate encounters with less than savory Meis.
The man grit his teeth, taking his digivice out. "...sorry Kappy..." He said as the light from the device lit the surroundings with a dark fire, the twins now taking on forms that could match match the Tactimon in size and hopefully power.
After that there were no more words, no more delaying the inevitable, nothing they could do but silently promise with their actions that they'd try to make what was to follow as quick and painless as possible. He deserved better, but at the very least he deserved that much.
The Belphemon swiped his claw forward, the chains coiled around his arm loosening and aiming to whip against their foe, hoping to both weaken him and keep him in place. Why keep him in place? Well it would become obvious enough as soon as the Hadesmon digged his now glowing tail into the ground, an equally bright glow coming from behind the dark clouds above as a massive sword split the skies and came down upon the tactimon, the ensuing shockwave sending trees and branches flying back, Carlos only managing to stay somewhat unscathed thanks to Gio's frame shielding him from the blast.
Even with such measures they feared, nay they knew this was unlikely to be enough...but hopefully it would make the next fight easier, if such a thing was even possible in this less than desireable situation.
Ask and ye shall receive. The twins switch into their mega forms asap and channel all their fear and hatred for a certain machine against Kappy, Dio trying to weaken and root him with Chains of Torment, while Gio tries to give things a swift end with Yamato.
Chains of Torment: Wielding one of the many chains coiled around his body, Belphemon whips the flaming chain in a sweeping motion in front of him, causing medium damage up to three targets in front of him. Additionally, the afflicted targets will be rooted in place by spectral chains for one post. Four posts cooldown.
Yamato: Gio stabs his bladed tail deep into the ground and opens a large portal in the sky, from which a single sword of massive size (35ft) falls and attempts to crush the target. Due to its massive size it deals heavy damage in an area where it lands (affecting up to three targets), and deals massive damage to anyone unfortunate enough to be hit directly. Can only be used two times per thread, and Gio is completely rooted in place one turn after the summoning. 5 turn cooldown.
Cooldowns:
Chains of Torment (0/4) Yamato (0/5)
