"I dunno, are you sure I can be able to even learn how to fight?" Kazuo the otaku Tentomon asked his human partner Yuji Moriyama as the two of them spent their free time exploring the Digital World together (something that Kazuo was originally against but Yuji had enough points in persuasion to convince the bug otherwise.) At least right now they were in a fairly nice and green area.
"You said you wanna be like one of those anime heroes, right?" Yuji responded in a confident and reassuring tone. "JoJo? Luffy? Naofumi? Well then you need to learn how to fight. Don't think of it as fighting for survival, it's like practicing your video game skills."
"Except you don't usually get hurt playing video games. Or you are able to and I just haven't found out how yet."
Yuji sighed and rubbed the back of his head. "Well if I can't convince you, we're going to need to find others who can. Maybe we can find other humans involved with Digimon that we can learn from. Usually if a human is involved, they have a Digimon partner or they can become a Digimon themselves!"
"But what if they're mean?!"
"Then we'll just leave and not have to talk to them again. How long have you shut yourself away from the world?"
"Almost my whole life. Or what little of it I can remember. I don't think I've been alive that long, kekek."
"Huh..."

The gorgeous vistas of the Mainframe Hills. Toki closed his eyes and took in the nostalgic scenery. This was one of the first places he had ever seen in the Digital World, back when he was still a nervous, shy wreck of a person who felt like people had better business than to assist or look after him. How far he has come in just a few short years. Someone so timid ended up becoming a mainstay of this strange incredible world. If he was capable of it, then surely anyone was.
He sighed a bit as he thought about how so many people would never see this place, let alone know it existed. Was that for the best, or was there a place for his argument that humans and digimon should coexist on a larger scale? That was going to be a long fought battle, he was sure of it, but one he wanted to attempt.
However, his inner musings were interrupted when he saw a young man with wildly colored hair with what he assumed to be his Tentomon partner. Curious, he stood up from where he was relaxing and decided to approach the two. He gave the two of them a friendly wave "Hello!" He greeted. "Always nice to see a new face around here. My name's Toki Akiyama. Who are you two?" He asked, disposition friendly as ever as he stood across from them.
Far be it for him to assume since it was a big world and all, but he has definitely never seem these two before. He wondered if the human was new to the Digital World and just got his partner relatively recently. "May I ask how long you've know the Digital World?" He asked Yuji.
He looked down at the Tentomon and waved as well "In any case I hope the two of you have been getting along well. If there's anything you two want to know about then I'll do everything I can to help out."

In an ironic twist, Yuji and Kazuo heard a voice calling out to them as the two discussed finding someone to train with among themselves. They both turned to the source of the voice to see an older male human calling out to them. A slight smirk then formed on Yuji's mouth. "Well isn't this an ironic situation, huh? We were talking about finding a human here, and then one comes up to greet us."
"Does this mean one of us has wish-fulfillment powers?!" Kazuo excitedly asked, his antennae shooting straight up in surprise.
"No no, it's just a coincidence," Yuji said as he tried to hold in his laughter. The human would then introduce himself as Toki Akiyama, before asking for the names of the Tamer pair in front of him. "My name's Yuji Moriyama, and this dork here is my partner Kazuo."
"Hey, your names kinda sound the same! Yuji Moriyama, Toki Akiyama... Toki Moriyama, Yuji Akiyama..."
Yuji chuckled at the Tentomon's amusing mumbles. "Don't mind him, he's always like this." The man Toki then asked how long he's been in the Digital World. "Actually, not long at all. Kazuo and I just met a couple months ago, so we're still kinda new to this whole thing. Let me ask you a question now: judging by how you're by yourself, I'm assuming you're a Spirit User?"
Toki then offered to share anything that the two might want to know about since they were new to being partners. "Hm... we are actually looking for other humans to train with and learn from. See, Kazuo's not really a fighter, but I figure it wouldn't hurt for him to at least train a bit. Do you know anyone that could help us with that?"

Toki waited as the two of them talked among themselves for a moment and found amusement in the Tentomon, Kazuo's, theory. He chuckled softly "Nice to meet the both of you. Yuji, Kazuo. I suppose our names do sound similar don't they? A lot of shared characters between them."
"A couple of months! How exciting." He beamed happily at the relatively new duo and nodded at Yuji "You'd be correct in your assumption! I'm a Spirit User, have been for the last...let's say four years! It's hard to keep track of time at some points." He said nervously. He pulled out his digivice and sure enough it was the usual model for a Spirit User, colored blue and white.
"Train? Well..." He thought about that for a moment and had an idea "Well I wouldn't be opposed to train with you! It's been a long time since I've met someone who's as new as you are so it would be my honor to help you with whatever you need." He bowed politely. "The Digital World is a beautiful, wonderful place but it's also full of many dangers. Knowing how to defend yourself is vital. Now...while I don't have experience as a tamer like you, just know that you're more than just a glorified cheerleader. Don't let anyone ever tell you that. Your bond, your passion, your love for your Digimon partner is what fuels the strength and determination to become stronger for one another."
He brushed his hair a bit "Aha...I'm sorry, I already went off on a lecture didn't I? Forgive me, it's a habit. In any case ask me any question you want and I will do everything in my power to answer. I'll even spar if you're up for it!"

"Similar characters? They may as well be the same name," Kazuo stated. "You'll have to forgive me if I mix up your names."
"I mean, you always call me Yuyu anyways," Yuji pointed out to his not-so-bright bug friend. "Are you gonna start calling him Toto, like the dog from Wizard of Oz or something? Even if you do, I don't think you're gonna be mixing up our names in any circumstance, bud."
"I..." Kazuo raised his claw up, but lowered it back down when he realized he didn't really have a counter-argument for this situation. "Yeah, you have a point, Yuyu." This conversation would give Toki a taste of what Yuji and Kazuo's dynamic with each other would be like. He better like what he sees... or rather, hears.
Speaking of Toki, the young adult man seemed to be a very positive soul, excited at the prospect that Yuji was still new to being a Tamer. He did confirm that he was a Spirit User, and had been for four years now as he showed his D-Tector, a standard model for Spirit Users. "Four years... I wasn't even quite out of elementary school yet, I don't think." Yuji would show off his model of Digivice, the D-Spirit, which he wore on his wrist. "I have no idea why mine's a different model from any other Digidestined person I've met. I don't even know if it does anything differently or not."
When Yuji mentioned how he and Kazuo were looking for a trainer, Toki himself would immediately offer to do so. Before Yuji could get the chance to respond, Toki would then go off on a lecture about how Yuji was more than a glorified cheerleader, which Yuji already kind of pieced together at this point in time, so Toki wasn't saying anything new here. Apologizing for the lecture, Toki would offer to answer any questions the duo had, or potentially even spar with them. Yuji and Kazuo definitely did have questions, but of different varieties.
"Do you know what kind of functions the Digivice has, and how to access them?"
"Have you ever done cool things, like face against really bad Digimon? Do you think... I could do something like that?!"

At the very least, the two partners were getting along. To him, anyway, he could never know for certain until getting to know them some more. So far so good, though! It was like a comedy routine with how the two got along. He simply waited for the two of them to be done speaking as he enjoyed the banter. The idea of being called Toto got a bit of a chuckle out of him "That would be a new one. I don't get many nicknames, honestly. I'm surprised given the nature of most of my spirits."
Toki brushed his chin thoughtfully at Yuji's uncertainty over his own digivice "Does that matter? It's how you use the power you're given that truly matters. As for how to access new functions of the Digivice...that's difficult for me to clearly answer as my journey to collect spirits had put me in a slightly different position in how I got new functions and forms. I'd say, though...that it will point you in the right direction when you're ready. Mine did whenever a new spirit manifested somewhere and lead me to one."
Then Kazuo had his question, one that made Toki smile softly as he thought about the battles of the past. "Oh, countless times. I wanted to mean something to people...so I threw myself at a lot of dangerous situations even if it might have been a bad idea...MetalPhantomon, Megidramon, Matadormon, Cherubimon, Craniamon, one whom I only know by Surtr...there are many I've fought, and I have the battle scars to prove it." He saw a bit of himself in Kazuo, though Kazuo was more hot-blooded and outwardly eager. "Now though, I'm glad that my efforts have been a positive influence on the lives of others here."
"I think you're more than capable if it's what you want to do. It's admirable, but know that it's also very dangerous, Kazuo. You'll have to train a lot and be ready to accept that there are things you can't do alone, if at all. This is not to discourage you, of course...just realize the long road you're about to tread to become stronger alongside Yuji." He said before he looked to Yuji "And you? What do you want to do?"

"To be honest, I don't even know why Kazuo calls me Yuyu," Yuji admitted. "It's just a thing he's done ever since we met. If anything, it's kinda adorable that he does that. Doesn't seem right to force him to call me by my real name if he doesn't want to, right?"
This Toki was definitely the philosophical type. When Yuji asked about his Digivice's model and its potential abilities, Toki simply said that it was more important on how Yuji used the power of the Digivice. While Toki did have a point, there didn't seem to even be much power to it yet at all. Toki also said that he was unsure of this Digivice's other functions since his was a different version. Yuji would then look at his Digivice and start pushing buttons. "I know this thing has a space to put Kazuo in for convenient travel, but-"
Yuji's speaking would then be interrupted by a sudden holographic display that appeared over the Digivice, probably no bigger than an average tablet. Based on the information on said display, it was clear that Yuji had activated the Digimon scanner function. "Okay, so this is how I can learn about a specific Digimon, nice. Now I just... need to turn it off..."
While Yuji dealt with that, Toki looked towards Kazuo and explained how he had thrown himself into many kinds of situations in the past. He faced against Digimon like Megidramon, MetalPhantomon, Cherubimon... each Digimon he mentioned made Kazuo's face light up more and more. "So you're kinda like a Shonen protagonist, a strong warrior capable of protecting others and fighting any mean Digimon who stands in your way! I wanna be like that... but I'm not sure if I can."
Toki would continue, assuring Kazuo that he was capable of whatever he wanted to be, but also warned him of the dangers that lie ahead of him on this path, and that there are things he couldn't do alone. This made Kazuo a little bit more unsure of himself, but he would certainly reflect on those words before they left his head. The little bug wasn't good at remembering some things.
As Yuji finally turned the scanner off, Toki faced back towards him, asking Yuji what he wanted to do. "Well that's a loaded question right there. I guess I just wanna explore the Digital World and help others, see where it takes me."

"Nicknames can be a healthy sign of affection to be quite honest, so I think it's just his way of saying he trusts you." Toki affirmed with a nod. He crossed his arms and watched Yuji mess around with the digivice. To be honest he was surprised he hadn't done so until now. At the very least, he knew about the scanner function "I love the scanner. It's fun to learn about different Digimon species." He said happily.
Toki rubbed the back of his head and blushed a bit at Kazuo's admiration "I suppose I am, aren't I? The whole existence of the Digital World feels like something out of an anime or video game...I'd like to think I'm known for more than just the Digimon I've managed to defeat. I want to spread a philosophy of kindness and unity. Work together with Digimon to create a better, more peaceful world. I realize that power is important to Digimon and becoming stronger is almost a necessity to back up your ideals...but everyone has their own strength. To me, one could have the power to destroy mountains and fight with the strongest in the world, but if they are cruel or delight in causing pain and suffering, they're weak. Being evil and being weak are one and the same as far as I'm concerned."
He thought about what else to say, not wanting to drone on and on "I believe in you, Kazuo. Nurture not only your combat skills, but your spirit. Your heart. True strength comes from what you do with the things you are capable of."
He smiled at Yuji's answer "Well that's as good an answer as any! If exploring and helping people is what you want to do, then that's wonderful! That's how I got started when I wound up here. I fought for others, grew stronger over the years and here I am. If I can do it, I believe anyone has the potential to."

"...that's actually very refreshing to hear," Yuji responded to Toki about the nickname thing. "I'm not scared of Kazuo, but I do get the occasional random nightmare sometimes involving bugs. After waking up from that I... well, half expect to see a scary version of Kazuo floating above me. Nothing but random nightmares, though."
"Nightmares are never fun," Kazuo said, shivering slightly as his pincers were placed in front of his mandible.
Toki brought up his own love of the Digimon scanner as Yuji was having trouble trying to get it to turn off. "Yeah, this thing is gonna come in handy- is it obvious that I haven't messed around with this thing, by the way?"
"He thinks he'll accidentally turn me big or it'll make a loud sound or something," Kazuo added with a shrug.
As Kazuo shared his admiration for Toki, the spirit user explained how he wanted to spread kindness and unity throughout the Digital World, working together with Digimon to create a better world. Kazuo's eyes practically sparkled as he listened to Toki speak, his admiration growing more and more. Even Yuji was impressed as he happened to share many of Toki's beliefs, only difference was Toki acted on those beliefs and basically DID become a Shonen hero like Kazuo said. Toki then looked down at the Tentomon, telling him not only to hone his combat skills, but also the bug's own beliefs. He instinctively placed his right claw on his own chest, feeling greatly inspired by the words of his superior. "I... I will try not to let you down, Sir Toki!"
"Hey, you Spirit Users got a form at the same level as Kazuo at all?" Yuji asked. "Was thinking if anyone would be a good sparring opponent for Kazuo, it'd be you."
"Oh, I would love to spar with Sir Toki!!!" The little Tentomon definitely seemed excited about the prospect of learning combat skills from the person who just inspired him. Would Toki be able to deliver?

"Being faced with something so new and strange can bring about a lot of uncertainty, so I don't blame the stress and the subjects of your nightmares. Rest assured, I have a feeling the two of you are getting along just fine, and that friendship will only bloom further with time." He said with a sage-like nod. "If you ever need someone to lend an ear about these nightmares though, I'll do my best to listen."
Toki shrugged at Yuji's experience with the digivice "We all start somewhere, don't we? Soon you'll be able to navigate its features like the back of your hand. To be fair, you probably will get bigger once you start attaining higher forms so if that happens its more a cause to celebrate than anything. Loud sounds...? Not likely. I never came across something like that in mine, anyway."
Kazuo seemed to admire Toki. Admiration was something Toki had to learn to expect, but he was still getting used to accepting it as an inevitable result of his actions. Being called Sir was uncommon, but he didn't mind. Then Yuji asked if he had a form around Kazuo's level "A rookie, right? Of course! And I'd be glad to spar. Give me just a moment then."
He stepped away and held out his free hand, a strand of data spiraling around it as he swiped it across the D-Tector "Spirit Evolution!" He shouted as in a flash of light, his form was surrounded by data, and from that mass a slightly shorter rabbit-like Digimon appeared. He took in a deep breath and exhaled sharply as he struck a martial arts kata "Turuiemon!"
The gauntlets on his fists were slightly different from usual examples, being made for striking as opposed to cutting, but otherwise he looked normal for the Digimon type. "Aaah it's been a while since I've used this form!" He said, stretching "It's honestly kind of relaxing."

Yuji shook his head upon hearing Toki's offer to help with the nightmares if need be. "I appreciate the offer but I don't think I'll need any help with these nightmares. Had them from time to time as a kid before I even met Kazuo. They're don't even always involve bugs anyways."
Toki then commented on Yuji's Digivice, saying that soon he'd be able to know all the features like the back of his hand. "Yeah, I don't think that time is gonna come anytime soon. And suddenly growing big isn't exactly what I want Kazuo to do in a cramped three bedroom apartment in the Shibuya district. I'm sure you can tell how disastrous that would be."
"If I am gonna Digivolve, I would prefer it to happen in the Digital World as well," Kazuo spoke up. "I tried buying things from shops when I first came to the human world and non of the humans liked me very much. I might be even scarier as a champion!"
Much to Kazuo's excitement, Toki had agreed to a spar and used his D-Tector to Spirit Evolve to his Sprite form Turueimon, a purple rabbit-like Digimon with a fighter's gi and fighting gauntlets. "Alright Kazuo, go ahead. I'll be right here to help and support you, okay?"
"Right, Yuyu," Kazuo said, opening his wings and taking to the air, moving away from Yuji to have him not end up in the crossfire. "Let's start of with... Super Shocker!" A powerful blast of red energy would then shoot from Kazuo straight at Toki. If Toki were to get hit with this blast, he would notice how it would legitimately hurt, and is not weak like Kazuo had claimed to be... Kazuo uses "Super Shocker" on Toki.

Toki smiled and understood Yuji's response, though couldn't help but chuckle lightly at his worry over Kazuo getting larger "Ah yes, that would be awkward...don't worry though, I'm sure things will work out in your favor in that regard. Even when Kazuo digivolves he will always be able to return to his Tentomon form whenever he wants to."
He tilted his head "You tried to shop yourself? Hm..." He thought for a moment "It would please me for humans and Digimon to be more open with one another...this enforced ignorance of the Digital World will only hurt in the long run if you ask me." He said, scratching at his chin.
It's been quite some time since Toki had fought in his rookie form. Something like this was honestly kind of fun to do low stakes sparring in! He smiled brightly as the fight commenced. He stood his ground for a moment as Kazuo prepared his attack. Toki's fists glowed a radiant light as he pounded them together. He ducked and dashed forward, weaving through the arcs of electricity. Some of it, however, arced across his body, sending waves of pain up and down his body. He grit his teeth and fought through it as he hopped forward. "Knuckle Duster!" He shouted as he would attempt to bring his right fist down on Kazuo before following up with an uppercut with his left. How he put his body and pivoted his legs into each strike showed much martial arts experience.
Regardless of the outcome, Toki would do his best to stay at a reasonable distance from Kazuo. Close enough to get in for an attack, but far enough to see things coming. Combat was like a dance, where the prowess and wits of the combatants clashed together. In this form, they were both equals. This was going to be a fun exercise for the both of them.

Toki is struck by the arcing electricity of Super Shocker before he counters with a close-range one-two strike from Knuckle Duster.

"I think it's too convenient that there haven't been more stories of large Digimon deciding to cause havoc in the human world," Yuji said in response to Toki's comment about the "enforced ignorance" of the Digital World. "It's way too easy to travel back and forth between the worlds as is, and I know about DATS and AEGIS but they can't exactly stop all of them before they can even happen, can they?"
"It would be nice to shop for games and manga on my own without scaring people though," Kazuo replied. "Holosuits feel really strange to wear for me."
Now with the fight truly beginning, Kazuo was surprised to see Toki dash through his Super Shocker attack, so he wasn't prepared for the attack that the Turueimon countered with. Both hits collided with the Tentomon's body with the uppercut causing Kazuo to be sent back a few feet due to the sheer force of the attack, landing on the ground half way and sliding the rest of the way.
"Kazuo!" Yuji instinctively yelled.
"Ow..." Kazuo groaned, sitting up from his position on the ground. "I'm alright, Yuyu!" Kazuo would then pick himself up, staring right at Toki. He at least knew one oi the Spirit User's moves now, and from this distance he could probably tell what kind of move he could make. Maybe if Kazuo got a bit closer...
Kazuo flew up into the air, dashing towards Toki at full speed. However, the Tentomon's movements would be very hard to telegraph as he was flying in a zig-zag pattern, moving seemingly at random. Once he got close enough Kazuo would curl up into a ball, with only his outer shell showing and spinning rapidly towards Toki in hopes of striking him directly. "Rolling Guard!" Kazuo is struck by "Knuckle Duster," taking full damage.
After recovering, Kazuo uses "Rolling Guard" on Toki.

Toki thought about what Yuji had said. Two organizations by themselves can't hope to regulate and manage every single Digital World phenomenon on their own. Eventually hiding it will be impossible and the longer it goes on, the harder it will be to explain to those who aren't already in the know. All it takes is one major attack to turn those who don't know about Digimon against them. The thought upset him, but this conversation could continue after the sparring had finished.
Toki took a deep breath as his eyes tracked Kazuo's movements throughout his next attack. He couldn't help but smile as he saw a clever use of ability to try and take advantage of a situation, though Toki had plenty of tricks up his sleeve. He did a backflip and pushed himself into the air with his hands as he tucked his legs close to his body.
He aimed to land around Kazuo's path and called out the attack "Strike the Earth!" before he stomped onto the ground. The ground rumbled slightly as a shockwave burst forth around the impact around him. If Kazuo wasn't careful he would barrel directly into the attack's radius.
"Good!" Toki said as he tapped at the ground with his foot "You're looking out for potential weaknesses. You saw from one attack that I could potentially be at a disadvantage to fast moving, unpredictable attacks due to my close quarters strikes. Always be wary, however. Everyone could potentially have something unexpected lying in wait for you. Still, good! Very good."

Kazuo could see it as he used his zig-zag maneuvering to try to get an advantage on Toki. He could just barely see Toki's eyes still tracking him even as he used quick movements to appear unpredictable. Kazuo knew better than to underestimate Sir Toki; he was planning a potential counterattack. He just wasn't sure what.
The solution was seemingly simple, however: just get the hit in before Toki could properly launch the counterattack. Shouldn't be too hard to pull off, would it?
It seemed that it would be though, as Kazuo watched Toki leap into the air and extend one of his legs out in a stomping position. It was going to be now or never, so Kazuo decided to go all in and start to use his Rolling Guard move as Toki was still in the air. This move would either result in victory or getting hit by something even nastier than the last attack.
Once he was in his ball form, Kazuo's speed would increase ever so slightly thanks to the momentum that he had built up. Toki stomped his foot right in Kazuo's path, shockwaves being sent around the Turueimon. If Kazuo was even a second too slow, that shockwave would definitely push him back and end his attack. Kazuo landed on the ground...
...and he seemingly disappeared. Right at the moment where Toki would notice a large dug-up patch of dirt in front of him, Kazuo would suddenly shoot out of the ground behind him. "Heave-!" Kazuo would call as he slashed his claws upward at Toki, hopefully causing him to go slightly airborne, "-Ho!" A second downward slash attack would immediately follow, slamming Toki into the ground if he was airborne at that moment. "That was close..." Kazuo avoids the shockwaves by digging underground, before digging back up behind Toki and using "Heave Ho!" on him.
Moves Heave Ho!: Kazuo slices up the target with both claws, first swiping up then swiping down.
