A Prince's Parley [Gummy/Hikaru]

Bezil looked at Gummy with concern, but didn’t make too much of a fuss. He knew that Gummy wasn’t the type to appreciate being coddled, but still, Bezil had to make a gesture that showed he cared, gently patting Gummy’s shoulder where there was no bandages. If he was really hurt, then help would soon be on its way if needed.
What Gummy said next to Hikaru made Bezil’s cheeks go as red as cherries. He didn’t think he’d say something like that in front of his father, and he felt very flattered and happy to hear those words. In response, Bezil gently leaned against him and rubbed his cheek against his, before saying “Heh, most of the stars in the sky will be gone before that light goes out, my darling.” he said in response, then hoped all of a sudden that neither Matty or Jimmy would find out about that sentence. It was hard to think on the spot for things that didn’t sound that sappy while still meaning the same thing.
Hikaru seemed to be taking the meeting quite well. Bezil was glad, although he blushed again at the mention of children. That… hadn’t been something he’d been thinking about before now. He tried not to, just appreciating how pleasant it was to introduce Gummy to three members of his family, but, somehow, thinking about going for a kid felt oddly pleasant. Not right now, but, once they both felt ready, it’d be wonderful to have their own family too.
Still, now wasn’t the time to think about that. Bezil was glad of Hikaru’s suggestion to have a stroll around the city together. “Sure! Sounds great.” Bezil said, as Haku finished his checkup. The burns from the lightning strike had mostly healed, and other than the occasional twitch in his wings and a dull ache deep in his digicore as it recovered a little more and more each day, there was little cause for concern. The furred Gumdramon took his herbal soup twice a day to assist with that as well. Still, he wouldn’t push his luck, it’d still be another week or two before he’d risk returning to his Adult form on a permanent basis.
Bezil turned to Gummy. “It’d be great, babe, you deserve a good tour of Ys.” he smiled. “There’s so much to see in this place, and we find even more of it every day, since it’s an ancient city we recently excavated. Of course we have to close off new areas and scan them for dangers before we open them properly, we don’t want to set off any ancient traps or anything like that.”
Bezil quite enjoyed exploring new parts of Ys as part of his KIZNA duties. He hadn’t come across anything particularly dangerous yet, although it was another activity put on hold in his recovery. And also he thought he’d very much like to be seen in public by the citizens of Ys with Gummy at his side.

Gummy appreciated the soft gesture from Bezil as he recoiled from the painful, yet somewhat comical blow to the head. It would have been really embarrassing if the furry Gumdramon wrapped him into his arms and tried to sooth his pain away, especially in front of three members of his family, and they just met him. Something like that was reserved when they were alone. Besides, he wanted to be cool and impressive in their eyes, not vulnerable. A little pain won’t kill him. Seeing Bezil’s face turning to a bright pink made Gummy grin ear to ear. His ears stood up in surprise when his boyfriend bunt his cheek against his, making the hammer part of his tail glow a dim blue. “Well I guess I’ll make your light forever-lasting, Bez Bez~” , he teased, reciprocating gesture. It was always fun teasing Bezil since he found it amusing getting him all flustered up. Though he would be light, not wanting his boyfriend to turn red as a tomato. Gummy perked up in attention as Hikaru talked. The mention of children made his eyes widened. That was something he hadn’t given much thought as well. It wasn’t something he was opposed to, but it wasn’t something he was with 100%, not yet anyway. He didn’t know much about parenting, but the responsibility of raising a child requires sheer commitment, unconditional love, a fair mind and open, and patience. That all required maturity, and Gummy felt he was lacking in that area. That all will come to him in due; he needed to focus on the here and now. But still, it would be pretty nice. “Treat the citizens like part of the family’, huh?” Gummy repeated, looking out at the city through the window, internally musing. Man, who knew being a part of royalty required so much responsibility and to be so...open. Would that mean he’d have to socialize and befriend everybody? Seems a little egregious if that was the case. Ending the speech, Hikaru offered to take the two on a tour of Y’s, to which Bezil encouraged that he would like. “Sure. We didn’t have anything planned today anyway, so a walk around town sounds good,” he replied. “Wait, so there’s more to this city than meets the eye? Holy...how did a city like this go missing for so long...and buried? That’s insane. Now I’m starting to wonder why this place was abandoned in the first place.”

Hikaru smiled. "Well that does reminds me of Owen," he mused to Bezil. "It's funny how much you resembled your Dad."
But enough of that. Hikaru looked glad for somethig. "...Hmmm, it's seem that your image of a royal family is a bit different than what you see from us, then, young man?" Hikaru addressed Gummy. "Then, let's see... answer me honestly. What... do you think, is the most important thing for royal family then? You may think of that as we go on. Well then! First let's take an air cab shall we? To the outside! The city is really huge after all! If you're going to walk on your foot as child stage, even if I gave you one week you're not going to finish travelling the entire city!"
Outside, Hikaru would use his D-NexT to call a special extra sized air taxi, which is literally just a gondola-like structure with drone propellers. It's designed to be more stable than drone thankfully.
"Now then, everyone! Please get inside! I'll tell you what you need to know about Ys. Anyway, for the meantime, let's see... Jill, do we have any schedule today?"
"Right. Your schedule is actually cleared, but... there's a request to inspect the attraction and foods in economic district. Afterward, a lecture at the academy... and finally the crafting district said that they have found a possible sector of the city that are more... mysterious. They're asking what should we do about it."
"The craft district, and not KIZNA itself?"
"Indeed. The one who found it apparently triggered a secret mechanism to an ancient storage or something.... It's unknown what the contents it at the moment, and they're waiting for your authorization."
"Alright, looks like that's an idea. Let's see... How about we go to the craft district, afterward to take a family meal, and after that... lecture. Sounds good to you guys? Ah, sorry Bez, it's not that I don't want to spend times with you and your boyfriend, but I think this is the best way for Gummy to familiarize himself with what we're doing, and how we operate... and you know, in case you took the reins he would know what to expect."

Bezil really enjoyed this little moment with Gummy, to the point that he didn’t really care how Hikaru, Haku or Jill would take it. This was a digimon he loved, and even if they were being kinda mushy together, well, it was a feeling he enjoyed. And that was a value he knew his family understood – as long as there was nothing evil to it, it was fine. Hikaru even mentioned that it reminded him of Owen, and this made Bezil swell a little with pride. After all, he had… kinda held Owen as idealized behaviour in this kind of thing, and this kind of feedback from Hikaru about his feelings for Gummy made him very happy indeed.
Bezil noticed that Gummy seemed to act a little unsure about the prospect of children of their own. Gummy had perked up, but reacted otherwise very little. Perhaps he was weighing it up in his own mind? Well, now was not the time or place to talk about it in detail, so Bezil was fine with that.
Thankfully Gummy was open to the idea of a tour of the city, and better still, he seemed to be quite curious about it. Hikaru would then arrange for an air-cab to take them on the tour.
Gummy asked how in the world a city as big as this could be buried and undiscovered for so long. Bezil paused for a moment to think of how he could explain this in a non-boring way to his boyfriend, then he remembered something that he had learned from Earth that should be exciting to him.
“Okay, babe, you know how on Earth, they have Earthquakes and Volcanoes that change their landscape over time?” he began. “Well, we think something similar has happened in the digital world recently that has done a similar change, only instead of everything shaking and being covered with lava, old data has emerged from being trapped from underground, and a really major event has made such a city like this be revealed. We in KIZNA were the first to secure it, so we want to make sure it’s properly taken care of, explored safely, and eventually populated.” he turned to Hikaru after he said it. “That’s the plan isn’t it, papa?” he asked, hoping he hadn’t left anything out that might give Gummy the wrong impression.
Bezil listened to Jill’s reading of the schedule, and was interested in the mysterious event in the crafting district. “Is there anything serious about it? Like energy fluctuations?” he asked, concerned. Energy fluctuations were generally the sign of something more dangerous within Ys, that often required an evacuation of the normal population until specialists could figure out what was happening.
Hikaru then apologized for taking time from Bezil with his boyfriend, but Bezil smiled. “It’s okay, papa, we’ve had plenty of time together this past week to pay off for something like this.” he assured him. Besides, he thought that if Gummy grew more familiar with Ys like this, it’d make him even more comfortable with being around this mysterious ancient city, and thus make their time together even more comfortable and natural.

Gummy listened to Bezil inquisitively as he explained how such a massive city like Y’s became hidden underground for so long. Apparently a large event happened that caused ancient data to erupt from under the earth, like a giant geyser, eventually unearthing parts of the city. Bezil compared this event to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions in the human world, which made Gummy perk up. “Oh! I think I recall Specs studying about ground activity like that for his classes,” Gummy replied. “I think it was called tectonic activity or something that causes the ground to move, and in conjunction, volcanoes and earthquakes to happen. There’s even a volcano near Tokyo that humans call Mt Fuji, but thankfully it hasn't shown signs of blowing its top off.”Internally, Gummy became surprised that he knows something like that. He was the Digimon that didn’t really care for education. So whenever Vergil studied, he’d be in the closet on his phone watching videos. Perhaps he picked it up unconscious whenever Vergil quizzed himself out loud. The king took notice of the Gumdramon’s vacant perception of what a royal family is, to which he scratched his head in response. If someone were to look at him with a magnifying glass, he’s the last Digimon to be associated with a royal family. Thankfully though, Hikaru gave him some time to ponder over the question, much to his relief. Walking outside with the others, he watched in amazement when Hikaru summoned a boat with the ability to fly, being the transport for their tour. Guess being the king has its quirks after all. Once everyone was on board, Gummy made sure his safety belt was on as they began to ascend, but even so, he instinctively placed a hand on Bezil’s lap for safety. He was used to flying, but not flying that was out of his control. Once he got used to the feeling, he began to ponder on the king’s question, thinking long and hard, until he thought of an answer. He looked up at Hikaru. “If I were to take a guess, I think the most important thing for a royal family is trust and the ties that bind—family. For a large family like yours, and especially for a king, all of the responsibilities everyone does begins and ends with trust. Every choice that’s made, whether big or small, the Digimon of this city put their utmost faith in you because they know what you do is for the benefit of them. Sure, power and acknowledgement is important, but without trust in their leader, everything falls apart.”
He continued. “And for the ties that bind, everyone in a royal family has a role to support the king in their official business. From what I’ve seen so far, Jill is in charge of the paperwork and manages your busy schedule, Bezil’s older brother here is not only a doctor for the family, but for everyone I’m assuming, and Bez Bez is not only a prince, but one of the admins of KIZNA, so that’s requires a lot of duties there,” he finished. “Did I...hit the nail in some places, or did I completely miss the mark,” he asked Hikaru. It was a rather difficult question, so he hoped he got some of it right.

"The data actually suggest that... unlike the most tectonic activities or eruption whatsoever... Ys... instead chooses to emerge from its deep slumber." Jill commented. "Or better said, when it was in dormant state, the then ghost city vanished from sight like an optical camouflage... and suddenly, one day... it just returned... along with the massive mountain it encased in. Our scientists still trying to dig the reason of this... but what we found was pretty shocking. While inside is indeed protected from any battle, what happened on the outside was the reverse. The crust suggested a battle that caused a disaster strong enough to cause the city to be encased in magma and mineral alike... We're trying to see if there are anything inside."
Hikaru nodded.in approval at Gummy's knowledge. "That is how it is... what we know is the city is... actually a living artifact. A bonafide artifact in size of a city. How big is it actually? No one knows, but we'd like to find out. That's why new area starting to crop up like that. While we trust the city security, and the will of the city itself... it's still dangerous to dive to something unknown by yourself."
"No, there's no sign of energy fluctuation or anything... but if we... put it in certain description... let's just say... it doesn't fluctuate, but at the same time... it's active? I dunno how else to explain it, but I think the operative amanger over there could explain it better than me. I checked the file they sent me and.... believe me, I think you'll be surprised how deep this city goes." Jill answered
Gummy's answer is... interesting to say the least. Hikaru looked at him curiously. "I see, so that's your answer..." when the young mon asked if he missed the mark completely, Hikaru shook his head and smiled gently. "No, I think you hit the right marks... just not quite there yet. Let's say you get the important notes hit right, but the subtleness is not there. I'd rate that 89 out of 100. Great, but could use slightly more polishing. But there's no real 'correct' answer on this, you see... It's more of a question of what kind of priority you put to certain image.
Personally, this is my view, alright? Personally... Indeed as you say, trust is important... but if you dig one step further, where does the trust coming form? The people. Sometimes when a royal is given their title and power, they forgot about their own circumstances, and suddenly they had this desire of making themselves even more wealthy than what they have at the moment. But they forgot, "wealth" isn't equal to "prosperity". By monopolizing everything, you will find that the money in your hand have less value than if everyone is prosperous. So a royal's mission isn't to simply run a country. It's to make everyone prosper. We're not born in this world equal, as some people would like to put it, no. We have our circumstances. We have our culture, we have our... differences, and that's what makes pluralism and why we're so different. You and Bezil, even if you're both Gumdramon, your upbringings are different, your circumstances are different, and there's also difference in status, correct?
But exactly because of that 'no one is born equal' I made it my mission... 'Even if people are born different, we'd like to make them to have equal chances of reaching happiness'. That, to me, is my mission as a King. We're simply trusted with this role that we have. Beyond that, we're merely just visionary fools I guess!" Hikaru chuckled at that.
"You're only slightly wrong on something. I was born a commoner, you see. Not only that, I was born with data defect that causes me to berserk now and then, and only after my first death I managed to get it sorted out. I was born commoner, and it wasn't until after Perry was born-- ah, that's my seventh child-- after she was born that I ascended to the throne. That means... from Logan to Persephone, they're born as commoners. It wasn't until Matty and Jimmy that we established ourselves as royal family. That's why... I told my children: If this royal business is to heavy for you, you don't have to try too hard and leave it all to me. Live in a good way, create bonds and be positive influences, and the most important of it all: be happy. There's no need for you to assume a grander position just because you're born to it."
Hikaru looked outside momentarily, there's a twinge of melancholy. "And so my 12th child took that offer, and now she's living life of a commoner in Luminas... while some of my kids decided they'd like bigger responsibility! Well, life is full of choice indeed! You have chosen to be with my son and I can't thank you enough for that, seeing how happy he is!"
Yet despite that, Hikaru's eyes looked slightly sad, and a bit moist even, as he looked toward the sky. "...Yes... I just... hope that whichever choice they picked... they would be happy... as a father, I can't stress that enough. Be happy, please be happy, even if distance separated us..."
Haku looked at the other way, oddly silent, while Jill sighed in melancholy. It's seem there are something that happened that caused Hikaru to feel this melancholic.
But thankfully it's seem that they're about to arrive. So there's no need of this awkward silence.

Bezil was surprised to hear Gummy come up with a fact about the human world that he didn’t know about. He internally chastized himself for that, of course Gummy would know things that he didn’t, he was a digimon with his own experiences after all. Still though, it wasn’t something he had heard from him before. He had to figure out quickly what to say about this to show both his surprise and approval without sounding dismissive or patronizing. “Gosh, I didn’t know that humans in Tokyo lived that close to a volcano. Good thing you caught onto that fact, Gummy, I reckon we digimon could lend a hand if it went off.”
Yeah… considering the capabilities of digimon that Bezil knew of, yeah, they could combat a volcano if they really put their effort toward it. Bezil hoped that was the case.
As for Jill’s theory of how Ys came into existence, it made more sense than what Bezil had made of it so far. “Huh, yeah… certainly feels like there’s something intelligent behind all of this.” he remarked. “After all, we haven’t encountered anything we can’t handle so far. If it was completely random, we could have just unearthed 3 treasure chests and then an armed atom bomb, or something like that.”
The furred Gumdramon rubbed his chin when Jill said that there wasn’t energy fluctuations, but still, signs of something active that was concerning. “Hmm. Maybe we should learn a little more about how power is distributed around this place?” he asked hesitantly. “Make sure we don’t flip a random switch and it triggers a doomsday launch.”
When Gummy answered Hikaru’s question, Bezil found himself unable to say anything in response. It was like… when he had first met Gummy, there was this wonderful, passionate, intelligent part of him hidden behind a rotten hedge of envy and rage. But, hearing him say such a brilliant statement in response to what he thought being King of Ys meant… all he could do was gently nuzzle his cheek against Gummy’s with approval. It was like that rotten hedge had been torn away.
Bezil then listened for Hikaru’s reply, and he raised some further good points. He spoke of his other children, Bezil’s brothers and sisters. And the mention of one of them made him a little sad. Bezil sighed from sympathy. He only wished there was a way that Steyr could have been happy within Ys, but, he had made his decision to turn his back on them for now. He only hoped one day his little brother would come back. Bezil would not judge him harshly in any way, he just wanted to be in a position to help him, any way he could.
“It’s a difficult subject, Gummy, I’ll tell you more about it later.” Bezil promised his boyfriend. With that said, the Gumdramon wanted to move the subject on. “Are we near our destination, papa?” he asked his father.

“Oh yeah, there are more cities in the human world besides Tokyo that are situated near volcanoes.” Gummy added. “It puzzles me as to why humans decided to build such huge cities and live right next door to what are basically mountains of fiery death and destruction. Maybe it’s because of the scenery or something, because Mt Fuji looks beautiful all the way from where we live, so maybe that’s the reason.”Despite living in the human world for an entire year with Vergil and Vee, it was clear that Gummy still had a long way to go in fully understanding the human world. While the Digital World was simple and easy-to-understand, the human world was as complex as a jigsaw puzzle, filled with complex people that don’t look very too hard ahead despite their accomplishments. Even so, the Digital World was still filled with hidden secrets that not even the Gumdramon himself couldn't fathom, like how the City of Y’s was actually alive. How Hikaru and Jill said it so casually made his mouth slightly agape. “F-For real?!” Gummy asked. He quickly leaned over, looking at the city below. “How can something like this, something unalive, be alive? Does it have emotions? Can it...feel pain? ‘Cuz if so, Specs is not gonna believe this the next time he decides to hawk up a loogie.”After thinking over Hikaru’s question and answering it to the best of his ability, the king looked at him with a curious glance, making the Gumdramon visibly sweat. Much to his surprise, and thankfully, relief, king said that he had hit all the right marks, missing a few details. Bezil in response to this nuzzled his cheek against his. His face broke up into a light shade of red, his tail glowing a dim blue. As random as it was, he very much appreciated it, especially from his boyfriend. Gummy then listened to Hikaru further, and to his surprise, the Dorumon was not born into royalty. Rather, he was born just like any other Digimon: ordinary. It wasn’t even until his seventh kid that he became king. Not only that, the entire family could decide whether or not they wanted to be a part of royal business. This took the Gumdramon a bit aback. Man...he was entirely wrong about the king before. He thought he was just another stereotypical king that would judge him due to his status as a commoner, but no. Just looking at him and how he talked to him made his worriedness slowly float away. The mention of Bezil’s other siblings cemented that even more, as he noted Hikaru’s change of tone from wise and exuberant, to a bit of sorrow, and seeing all three family members' reaction only confirmed it. Gummy opened and closed his mouth several times before he closed it fully, unable to find a response that would be suitable. Perhaps it was for the best. Gummy gave a nod after Bezil said that he’ll explain the subject to him later. For now, he decided to sit in silence, looking at the trawling city landscape until they reach their destination.

"Fertile soil," Hikaru answered to Gummy's musing. "Humans builds civilization based on what they started first as. They will not flock toward a safe ground if it means they'll starve. Something like it's better to risk your life and survive than to die in misery I guess? Let's say... in winter where it's cold, they probably think that it's better to live where the source of the heat were, and on top of that near volcano, it's much warmer perhaps? There are also probably hot springs around which makes it far easier to cope with the cold. Humans basically lives where their resources at. Edo, for example, where Tokyo is in now, was a fishing village. As the village grows it became a town, and after town grew it became a city. Growth of a settlement also factored by whether the people managed to evade disaster or not. If they can't, then they won't live there."
"But, there are a case like Vesuvius and Pompeii," Jill added. "Sometimes a disaster gets into unprecedented level that people had no idea they're living in a very dangerous zone and ended up bringing demise to their city and themselves."
"Such is life, however," Haku mused "sometimes there are things that slips your notice or perhaps you just don't know how to process the information. Lack of information available at your disposal will bite back to you. It's impossible to be all knowing, but it's great to have as many information at your disposal."
Gummy's lingo is a bit confusing for the king. "...Eh?"
"He means spit at the road or something" Jill explained.
"...Uuuuh it's illegal to spit on road of Ys. Unless emergency like case of poisoning or something. Doing so will make you have to powerwash that spot for five minutes if you're caught. The city's will personally won't act to it, but... yeah, you know... it's really just gross to spit on road that people tried really hard to maintain? If you want to spit, spit on grass or something," Hikaru answered.
On question of whether they're close, Hikaru simply pointed below.
"We're already at the drop site, just need to descend."
The door soon opened and Hikaru walked out from the door.
"Ah, your majesty!"
"At ease," Hikaru ordered the kneeling Mojyamons with safety clothes. "I have heard your problem. Please report."
"Sire! Basically, we found this building that might be a relic of the past... well, the warehouse, specifically... We have been using it since a long while to put our items,a nd there have been this shuttle that stays closed no matter how hard we tried to open it. There were no mechanism at all, at least we thought so, but..."
"What caused the mechanism to trigger?"
"Um, we have no idea, but we... suspected that it might be 'sound'."
"Sound, huh?"
"Yes. You see, the worker admitted they have been whistling before the door opened. There wasn't any report of any sound of click prior to that."
"....................Sound... interesting. Please lead us to the place where the worker is whistling there."
"Right away, sir... hey, you!" the Mojyamon foreman called the whistling Mojyamon who looked like he wishes that the ground could eat him up right now.
"Now now, no need to be that harsh. Really, it's a great thing that you find something like this. I commend you."
"Y-yes, forgive us, sire!"
"Geez," Hikaru smiled wryly. "Really, you guys are too tense. Anyway, show us the place, please."
Without delay, the Mojyamon guided Hikaru toward the spot. "I was whistling here while taking a break," the Mojyamon admitted. and then he pointed at a stairways down. Hikaru remembered this place... that shutter have never been opened before this. Like Jill said, no data reading, just... energy. It feels like powered by the city. "Hmm, interesting... I'm going to check around then... Bezil, Haku, Jill, go around and scan the place with your D-NexT. If you find any mechanism around this room, do tell."

Bezil listened as his father answered Gummy’s question. So, apparently in the human world, the land around volcanoes was very fertile. That made sense to him. “So, high risk, high reward?” he asked. While Bezil did try his best to learn about civilization and such, he still had much to learn about the matter. But he was beginning to understand such concepts as why people would gather in areas where there was lots of resources and shun those that did not. After all, there were hardly any civilizations in the Shining Sea, where all there was for the most part was crystals and sand.
And of course, there was the risks behind it. The story of Pompeii on the human world had at least captured Bezil’s imagination once he had been told the story behind it – ancient humans living in ignorance until the very end, when the volcano erupted and killed most of them, their petrified remains lingering for the world to see and learn from afterwards.
Bezil then gave a nervous chuckle as the rule about spitting was brought up. “Yeah… best do that in a tissue.” the Gumdramon advised.
He then watched as the Mojyamon approached, giving a report to Hikaru. From the looks of things, a situation had arisen, and it was up to them to figure it out.
Bezil gave a nod when he was given direction by Hikaru, pulling his D-NexT from his pocket. “I gotta do some work now, babe. Can you please help out by sticking with papa in case something pops up?”
Bezil hoped Gummy didn’t feel disrespect here. In fact Bezil was showing quite the amount of trust by asking him to help out Hikaru while he did scanning of the area with his D-NexT, which he then took care to scan the area thoroughly. After all, he, Haku and Jill were solo digimon. Hikaru and Gummy meanwhile couldn’t evolve easily without their human partners nearby, so Bezil trusted they’d be fine together.

Yeah Gummy listened to Hikaru’s explanation. So the reason why some humans settle near volcanoes was because of the fruitful soil the land yielded, huh. As Bezil so casually put it , it was a high risk, high reward scenario; humans are provided fertile land which can result in a higher crop yield for farmers, so the more crops that are planted, the more food they’ll have. But that comes with the risk of the volcano potentially exploding, discharging lava and thick poisonous gases that can kill everyone around the immediate area and destroy the society they worked so hard to build. “So that’s why there are Digimon living at the Spears of Megiddo...” Gummy said. “Perhaps humans aren’t so different from Digimon after all when it comes to sustaining each other.” Of course, as mentioned earlier, the most powerful Digimon can become submerged in lava and leave without a scratch, which is one the the reasons why they occupied the island in the first place. Humans on the other hand will definitely not survive that. Gummy gave a raised eyebrow at the rule about spitting on the road. “Yeesh, that’s a crime? Heh, I guess that makes my tamer a wanted man from the law,” he joked. They arrived at the excavation site, and soon enough, they were greeted by a Mojyamon, who gave his report to the king. Apparently, the entrance to a structure that they had uncovered opened up by one of them whistling. Kind of like a secret passageway. Seeing how Hikaru, Bezil, Jill, and Haku were going to do some work, Gummy was content on staying right by the entrance until they were done, until Bezil asked him to stick by Hikaru. Gummy blinked in surprised. “Um...okay. I don’t really see how I could help in any way, but if you say so…”Gummy walked towards where Hikaru was doing his investigation and simply looked on as he did, nonchalantly easing his arms behind his head. He didn’t see the reason why he should stick by the king. For safety reasons? If so, then wouldn’t he be safe at the entrance? And if it was to watch for the king’s safety, then he really didn’t see a need to. He is the king after all. He should be able to watch out for himself in case something were to happen.

"More like the risk are pretty much mitigable... able to live thanks to the resources but in danger versus living in barren land but safe. Basically they're prioritizing situation where they can survive, even if it's unstable compared to a stable situation but unable to sustain themselves in that stable situation," Hikaru answered. "In the flipside, you can say that Ys is built on completely opposite sort of philosophy: We have enough resources to sustain ourselves in the long run, so as long as we got safe place then it's all we could ask for. However, in the end we got both of them: a safe place, and enough resources to sustain everyone. In the north too, whcih is like almost asking for a miracle."
Hikaru chuckled. "It's not a crime per se, but it's definitely an offense that will get you slapped with a fine. Either that or you clean it up. Well, really, like I said, if you really must spit, spit somewhere like patches of grass or something. Though, hey, you can jokingly write him a ticket.'
In the storage, Hikaru checked everything out... slowly.
"Oya?" he noticed that Gummy is standing right behind him and smiled. "What's wrong, young man? Bez told you to stick with this old man?" he chuckled. He probably already quite guessed what's going on. Gummy probably thinking "what's the use of him sticking around close to Hikaru anyway? Protection? The king is probably plenty strong." He probably didn't really think anything would happen. It's Ys after all.
"In that case I think your boyfriend wanted you to learn the rope, I think... not on the idea that you join us as a team member, no... more like, he wanted you to look on what our duties are. Every action have a meaning in it. One that you do unconsciously actually have meaning, no matter how miniscule, right?"
As he speaks, Hikaru resumed on scanning around.
"Say, young man... did our action baffled you? Like "why are the royals like this?" or like "why are they working when they could just have fun on the castle, lazing around?" for example, does it ever cross your mind? You can speak freely on that one." There's no malice in Hikaru's tone. He's genuninely curious. Hmmm, nothing on this side. He walked further.
"Hmmm.... where is it, where it is..." the guy whistled, so could it be that there's any sound receptor device somewhere? Or perhaps that this entire storage is equipped with sound recognizing device? In that case, should he play bagpipe?

From the moment Bezil set off from Gummy and Hikaru, he cringed as he realized that Gummy would probably feel a bit lost as to what was going on. Damn it, he should have explained a bit better, but, he hoped his papa would sort things out. After all, Bezil was carrying out what he asked him to do, so maybe this was Hikaru’s method of having a one-on-one chat with his boyfriend?
Yeah, that was most probably it. Hikaru just wanted to get to know Gummy a bit more in private? That was a valid thing to do. Bezil thus focused on the task he was given – scan as much data as he could about the anomaly. A ‘shuttle’ of sorts that had been completely unresponsive until it had been activated by a sound – a worker whistling.
“Hmm…” Bezil remarked after some scanning, but nothing substantial showed up in the meantime on his D-NexT. Just some garble that could probably be decoded later. However, the clue from the Mojyamon gave him an idea.
“Hey, Haku, Jill, do you think it would be a good idea if we whistled and see what happens?” he asked his brother and sister. “Our D-NexT’s might be able to pick up some activity… although it’s something we don’t know about so it could be risky.” he admitted. He would have ordinarily gone back to consult with his father, but he thought that it might be better for him to spend a bit more time with Gummy so they could get to know each other a bit better. If Haku and Jill agreed, Bezil would try to whistle as best he could, but if not, he’d remain silent and inspect the shuttle more closely.

As King Hikaru, Bezil, Jill, and Haku continue to inspect the ruins, Gummy couldn’t help but exhale a sigh. If there was one thing he wasn’t prepared for when meeting the rest of his boyfriend’s family, it was a research expedition. They were all in their element, completing their tasks while he was the third wheel of the group, or in this case, the fifth wheel. He had no idea what was going on and why it was so important. Honestly, he really felt like he should wait outside until they were done. Besides, this was their assignment, their responsibility, and their city. The former two had nothing to do with him. But Bezil asked for him to stick near his dad, so even though he wasn’t thrilled about it, he opted to keep him company for the time being. When Hikaru eventually noticed him sitting on a rock, Gummy immediately jumped to give the king his full attention. “Y-Yes, your majesty,” he responded. “He wanted me to stick by you in case you needed a hand with something. And he didn’t want to exclude me from the task you all are doing.”
To learn the ropes? Well if that was what Bezil had planned, then shouldn’t something like this be for a day where he had prior knowledge of and was prepared for, not when he was in the middle of an outing with his family? The Gumdramon said nothing and nodded to the Dorumon’s question. The Gumdramon scratched the back of his head when Hikaru asked if their actions so far had confused him. “Hmm. A little bit, I guess, but not for the reasons you suggest,” he asked a bit hesitantly. “Like…how you guys operate. It’s different from the world I know. It's different from how old man Owen does with Matty and Jimmy. He’s more lax and more adventurous, and you’re more, well…kingly. Going from his side to yours is like going to two different families to be honest. He has his way and you have yours, which is that of royalty and the call to your people’s everyday needs.”
He began to walk around the ruins, looking at the ancient inscriptions that he couldn’t decipher, but were still intriguing to the Gumdramon. “To be frank with you, I don’t think that’s something I’m cut out for to be honest,” he continued. “I mean, to your son, I’m his lover. Someone that treasures a lot. But to you all, I’m just an outsider you just met, not even thirty minutes ago, unsure of whether or not I can be trusted at all, and I don’t blame y'all. Hell, I feel like if Jill searched up my history if that even exists, she’ll kick me out of here, no questions asked."“So it’s not that your actions baffle me, because it’s completely understandable. Each and everyone of you has a role to fulfill. I think it’s my place in your kingdom that leaves me perplexed. I’m not sure if someone with a violent background such as mine would fillthe role you would like me to take.”
