Uninformational Technology [Johan/Terminus Job F]

A generational gap was usually something one would keep reserved for the likes of the Human World. After all, Digimon -were- the very improvements in technology they wanted to be sometimes, right? At least, that's what Hisato had thought. Unfortunately, there was a notice slapped to one of the HUNDREDS of bulletin boards throughout the largest city in the Digital World that took such a notion and shattered it about as hard as Scarab reportedly shattered a feline's pride. Okay, maybe not that hard, but still. INFRASTRUCTURE HELP WANTED! THIS IS A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR OF TERMINUS, WHO SHALL REMAIN UNNAMED FOR THE SAKE OF AN AIR OF MYSTERY!AS YOU MAY HAVE REALIZED, A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF OUR BEAUTIFUL TERMINUS' TECHNOLOGICAL NETWORK IS A TOUCH...OBSOLETE. IF TIME DILATION IS CORRECT, THEN WHAT WE HAVE BEEN USING FOR OVER A HUNDRED AND FORTY YEARS IS ABOUT TWENTY YEARS OUT OF DATE IN HUMAN WORLD STANDARDS.WE VIEW THIS AS ENTIRELY UNACCEPTABLE FOR OUR CITIZENS, AND HAVE THUS SET ABOUT UPGRADING OUR INFRASTRUCTURE TO BETTER MEET PERSONAL STANDARDS, UNLIKE THAT UNSCRUPULOUS HARLOT, HODD TOWARD. I WILL FIND YOU, YOU CANNOT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT.AS SUCH, WE REQUIRE AID FROM YOU, THE CHOSEN CHILDREN AND THE GOOD PEOPLE OF TERMINUS, TO AID US WITH ENSURING THE CONTINUED PROSPERITY OF OUR TERMINUS.PLEASE HELP I THINK BABAMON MIGHT HAVE CAUSED THE TRAILMON NETWORK TO CRASH TRYING TO APPLY UPDATES OH YGGY-"...Do you think that the Mayor just records these vocally?" The voice of the blue Stingmon behind him nearly startled Hisato, but a swift recollection of the fact that Scarab actually -favored- that form prevented that. "Probably." The teenager responded with a shrug to cap that off. And without another word, he'd head off in the direction of a number of addresses at the bottom of the notice.
That's how we get to the now, pretty much. The duo were setting up new computers at a lab within one of the many probable schools within the city. And it was going...slow, but hey, at least things were working! There were a retinue of other Digimon helping out, but so far the task seemed pretty simple--ensure the computers were all up to date and able to access everything required per a checklist.
And for a nice sum of bits, too.
Now we know the real reason Scarab agreed to this shit.

Much like Hisato himself, Johan assumed that the creatures literally made out of data couldn't possibly have technology that was considered out of date, right? However, his assumptions were too indeed shattered much like Hisato's when he and his partner Dokamon read one of the many flyers scattered throughout Terminus asking for assistance in updating the infrastructure of the city. The flyer read as if the "mysterious" mayor himself was speaking directly to the pair.
"Hodd Toward...?" Johan mumbled to himself as he read the flyer. He felt like he had heard that name somewhere else before... wasn't he the head of the game company Bethany Esda? Yeah, that was probably it. Dunno how a Digimon from Terminus would know about him, though.. Johan looked down to his left, where his partner Dokamon was standing beside him. "We know a few things about tech, I think we should go help them."
"Hm, I agree," Dokamon said with a nod. "I cannot think of many others who know as much about this subject as you do. We do not have any additional tasks for today either, since we've already picked up the parts."
The young man smiled and nodded before the two headed off for one of the addresses at the bottom of the flyer. And as if it were fate, Johan and Dokamon ended up at the exact same school that Hisato and Scarab ended up in. The AEGIS agents would walk up to the computer lab entrance, with Johan knocking on the door a couple of times and opening it a few seconds later. "We're not too late, are we?" Johan would ask as he and Dokamon walked in.
From the others' perspective, they would see a messy-haired teenage male walk in, dressed in seemingly all dark-grey. From his trenchcoat to his turtleneck to even his pants and shoes, they were all dark grey. The only other color on his outfit were his light blue tie and accents on the trenchcoat of the same color. The color scheme seemed to match almost perfectly with his partner, who was mainly light blue with robotic arms and legs and a black vest... and a seemingly permanent scowl as well, a great contrast from the human's young and hopeful-looking face.

Fate worked in really strange and funny ways, but it could have been worse. Nobody knew how but it could be worse. The lab itself was in a very organized state, One of the Hagurumon working on the computers gave a wave to the recently arrived Johan and Dokamon, while a peculiar sight in the form of a VERY familiar Stingmon was seated at one of the desktops. ...It was running an installation process of the tenth iteration of the standard Terminus operating system. Said to actually be new.
But others might know it as 'Windows 10, But It's Not A Complete Pile Of Shit.'
"Morning. We're basically running software updates on these bad boys for money because Hagurumon don't have opposable thumbs. And they can't accept Captchas, either." The Stingmon grumbled, flipping through a newspaper. "It's true." One of the Hagurumon uttered. "I had to call emergency services the last time I saw a Captcha."
What a digital dummy. Hisato was dressed in his usual shirt/black pants. So, he really didn't look out of the ordinary or very striking. His corner was full of computers in the installation process, while the rest...hadn't gotten started yet. There was one question to be asked, though.
The heck was -that- Stingmon doing here?

Johan wasn't exactly sure what he was expecting, but it surely wasn't this. The young man's heart skipped a beat when he opened the door to find a very familiar looking blue Stingmon sitting at one of the desktop computers. There was only one blue Stingmon he had ever seen, and that was during a Golden Week some time ago, an event which would go down in infamy. This Stingmon... he was one of the terrorists that Johan briefly saw on the telly before the signal was cut off, presumably by someone at DATS.
The Stingmon grumbled about how they were essentially upgrading the software on the computers for the Hagurumons because they didn't have opposable thumbs and couldn't get past the captchas, with one of them saying he had to call 9-1-1 last time he saw a captcha. Johan smiled and nodded awkwardly. "I just, uh... gotta take care of something real quick," Johan said in his usual British accent before stepping out of the room, leaving Dokamon in the room. If the others were to ask about it, Dokamon would simply shrug.
On the other side of the door, Johan quickly pulled out his D-Terminal and messed Sophie, the director of AEGIS, on Tamernet about how he was face-to-face with one of the known terrorists from Golden Week, asking for assistance. Thankfully Sophie responded relatively quickly, saying to keep an eye on the Stingmon and to make sure he didn't do anything dangerous. Johan took a deep breath. Okay, I can do this, he mentally told himself.
The AEGIS agent would then walk back into the room as if he didn't just come face to face with a terrorist. "Sorry about that, had to message someone quickly. I'm Johan Walker, and this is my partner Dokamon. So you're simply upgrading the computers? As good a place to start as any."
Johan and Dokamon would then each sit at a separate computer, each getting to work at installing the latest operating system. Once one was at the installation process, they would move on to the next. Johan and Dokamon seemed to be starting the installation on the computers relatively fast, almost as if it was child's play for them, though Dokamon was considerably slower at this than his human partner. At least both of them would be open for conversation as they worked.

"Alright. Sure." Yeah, Scarab was pretty sure the human recognized him from somewhere. But, given they were in a civilian institution right now? It was something to bring up later. Besides.
The law was always on your side so long as you don't strike first...Right? Eh. Better not to risk anything. "Aw. Man. I wonder. What. Could possibly. Be more important. Than computer updates. Man." One of the other Hagurumon uttered. He. Uh. He might be very much a fan of punctuating.
When Johan had re-entered, Scarab waved a hand. "All good. And yeah. Better software means it runs more modern stuff which works pretty great for educational stuff. ...Being here does feel a little weird, though. Especially when you're someone who was homeschooled and had nothing like this."
There was truth to that. But, Hisato took notice of how quick the work had proceeded thanks to the addition of two more pairs of hands. Well, one and then Dokamon. "Thanks for the hand. I...don't think I've seen either of you around here before? I'm Aizawa Hisato, nice to meetcha." There goes that guy's attempt at starting conversation. Scarab meanwhile kept to his one computer.
Suddenly, the newspaper had become a lot more interesting to read through. "...Man, I can't believe Garfield's dead." Scarab muttered. What a bunch of hacks.

No one really seemed to pay much mind when Johan excused himself from the room. Dokamon himself was confused though, since his partner's departure really did seem very sudden. He was distracted from his pondering when one of the other Hagurumon spoke up, in a speech pattern that made it sound like he was punctuating every other word in the sentence. The blue robotic Digimon raised an eyebrow.
Emergency services after seeing captchas, speaking with far too much punctuation... Dokamon thought to himself. Are all of the Hagurumon this bizarre? Silence's Hagurumon is pretty tame, aside from his cowardice of course...
Of course all was good when Johan walked back into the classroom and started getting to work. After getting done with a few computers, mainly transferring over to the next one while the previous one installed the new OS, the other human in the room came up to greet the young man, thanking Johan and introducing himself as Aizawa Hisato. He looked to be Johan's age as well. "It's no problem, technology is my specialty. Helps with my part-time job as well. Dokamon and I mainly stay in the human world, only coming to the Digital World to do research and pick up new tech parts to experiment with." Johan turned away from Hisato to look at Scarab. "Your partner looks... familiar to me. It's not often you see a blue Stingmon. Any theories to what may have caused his color to change?"
Speaking of the Stingmon, Johan was getting fed up how he was just sitting at the one computer reading the funny pages while his computer took a long time to install the new OS. "Here's a suggestion," Johan told the Stingmon, "try moving onto other computers while yours is busy installing the new software. It'll make you look less lazy."

Once more, Scarab did think it was odd when Johan made an exit. But he didn't pay much heed after he came back. The Hagurumon seemed to just get back to whatever it was they were doing, though one whispered "Do you think these bits are gonna get old?" to another. His response?
"No. For we are hilarious, and all shall quote what we say for decades to come."
Of course, it was all a whisper. Scarab leered at the Hagurumon. "...I'm starting to have second thoughts about you guys being scared of Captchas." He grumbled. More on this a bit later, though.
For Hisato had dared to engage in the most perilous task of all. Social activity. "Great to hear, because I...uh. I barely know what I'm doing here. Setting all this up seems easy enough, unless there's more to it than just putting the recommended settings." It wasn't like there was much reason to not go with that. At the notion of his partner, though? "Yeah, uh...He gets that a lot. He's trying to turn over a new leaf. Former mercenary and...some other assorted stuff."
So it wasn't like Hisato -wasn't- aware his partner was a terrorist. "I actually have one stretch of a theory--given Digimon have parents, one of his might have also been blue? ...Wouldn't know otherwise, though."
Scarab looked up from his paper. "...I mean. Sure? This one's just slow." The Stingmon gave a look to Johan's uniform, and...Hm. It looked fami-... "...Huh. Forgot AEGIS operated in the Digital World too sometimes. Doing community work too?" The Stingmon decided to ask that while he got up and moved to another computer. Yeah, just...gonna install that too...

"I am finding their behavior to be very questionable," Dokamon would discretely mention to Scarab, seeing that the blue Stingmon was starting to get a little bit suspicious as well. "The Hagurumon my Tamer and I know is most likely not scared of captchas, himself... though he is scared of plenty of other things."
While that was going on, Johan didn't even look away from his task while the other human Hisato admitted that he had no idea what he was doing. "Heh, you picked the wrong job to sign up for then, it seems. I'm more knowledgeable with computers than others my age so just setting up the OS on these computers is like reading a chlidren's book. Not that it's hard to do for an average person at all, mind you. Just follow the instructions and you'll do fine."
The subject of Hisato's partner came up next, the human mentioned how he was trying to turn over a new leaf as he was a former mercenary. What Johan would say next would be for Hisato's ears only. "Former mercenary, huh? I don't have evidence to back it up, but if I'm right I may have to add "terrorist" to that resume." He turned away from the computer and looked right into Hisato's eyes, his tone of voice now sounding less like young genius and more young "Men in Black" operative. "Was your partner involved in Golden Week at all? I saw that broadcast, there was a blue Stingmon and a red ExVeemon before the signal was cut. If that was him, and he tries anything dangerous, I'm authorized to neutralize him with force if necessary. All seems well and good now though, so I don't expect a problem to arise. But still, I feel I should warn you."
Once that private talk was over, Johan moved on to Scarab himself. It didn't take long for the bug to recognize Johan's AEGIS uniform, asking if he was doing community work as well. Johan shifted back to his usual tone of voice. "No, actually, my partner and I saw a flyer in the street and decided to help out. Probably for the best, if I am being honest."
"It helps that Johan is obsessed with all things technological and digital," Dokamon commented while he was working on another computer. "If anything, the blue Stingmon might grab his attention the most." Oh right, they hadn't got Scarab's name yet...

"If I'm being honest? ...I feel like they're putting on an act. It's for little more than humor." Scarab put one theory out there. The truth of the matter was that the Hagurumon were bored, read that robots can't do captchas, laughed, and also decided it'd be hilarious to freak out at the sight of one just so they didn't have to do work and focus on other efficiency issues.
"It's understandable, though. Every mon's got fears. I'm no exception to that. ...Won't pry further, however. That might be a bit rude."
Meanwhile, Hisato leveled a stare at Johan. Not one of derision or malice, but a knowing one. That was information that he already seemed to know. And his tone became equivalently as...serious.
He held no smile on his face. Just a perfectly neutral expression. "He was. I know that because I was at the Square when everything happened. I'm not...sure what circumstances led to him becoming my partner, but I was not that happy to find out the blue worm I met at a library pretty much re-enacted one of those western comic books with some panther." It was at that point that the azure Stingmon tilted his head over to the lads. Antennae meant he could hear a -lot.-
'Neutralize.'
Did they know who the fuck they would be dealing with?
Did they not know the fact that he was -obviously- holding back at the Squa-...Actually, no, that part might not be commonly known. "It hasn't been all bad, though. I'd...say he's been on his best behavior. Except he hates crossing over to the real world." Hisato's little monologue (?) concluded there.
"Yeah, I think the council's problem here is manpower. Not many have...incentive to help with a huge task like this. So, offering a bit reward's a good start. Plus, helps people learn how to install operating systems. Easy as that is. Engineers must be having a field day." Scarab nodded. "Scarab, by the way. ...That's my name. ...And yeah. That's something I'm known for. I'm told I get it from my father."

"It may be because I do not find many things to be funny in general, but if it is a joke I do not find that humorous at all," Dokamon said with a slight shrug. The Hagurumon had to have known that this task would not be particularly fun, so in Dokamon's opinion it would be best if they found other ways to entertain themselves while also being efficient in getting the task done properly. Then again, Dokamon wasn't exactly like other Digimon in that sense, so maybe he just wasn't getting it.
Meanwhile, things got pretty tense between Johan and Hisato. Not tense as in one may attack the other, but tense nonetheless. Johan had told Hisato that he knows what Scarab did on Golden Week and warned him that he'd take action against Scarab if he did anything that warranted it. Hisato expressed how he wasn't happy about what his partner did, but also that he's been on his best behavior and dislikes crossing over to the human world. Johan nodded. "I'll take your word on it. I don't think it's his or your intent to pull anything like that again. Now, back to the task at hand..."
Scarab would continue to speak, stating how not many would have incentive to help out with something like this. "Makes sense that they'd put up flyers with rewards being mentioned then," Johan said, installing the OS on another computer. "I've messed around with the Digimon OS's for a while and they're both similar and different from the ones in the human world. I know how they work now, but it wasn't easy to learn."
Now officially revealing his name to be Scarab, the Stingmon mentioned how he was told he gets his blue-ness from his father. "Digimon genetics, that would make sense. A Shoutmon ally of ours has a Hackmon son that has blue eyes instead of yellow, and we know a Gumdramon with a Gaomon father who inherited the yellow eyes and has fur instead of scales."
"It's fascinating, there's the template for Digimon that most go by almost to a tee, and then there's Digimon with the same basic shape but with either slight or major modifications. Do you know who your father was, Scarab?"

"Understandable. Humor's a bit of an acquired taste, and not everyone's jokes are going to hit the right...beat? Yeah. Beat." Scarab didn't seem surprised. Dokamon was plenty robotic in a few ways, but humor probably was not a strong suit either way.
...Which...yeah.
Sometimes it was like that. Meanwhile, over with The Boys, yes, the atmosphere was tense in a way, there wasn't really much else to it. Sure, it was a bit of a heavy subject to reveal 'Oh hey, the guy that beat up a cat in a square that I was enjoying Golden Week at with some dog is also my CHOSEN PARTNER' and all...
But there was some mutual understanding from all parties. Scarab tuned that conversation out upon noting that the agents'd take Hisato's word for the matter at hand. Cool. "You know, if this world came from computers, then it'd probably make sense the operating systems are like the ones we have. Kind of like how offspring inherit different traits." Biology class knowledge, wooo.
Speaking of that? The subject seemed to have shifted to genetics all around. "That makes plenty of sense--I've noticed a few Digimon inherit small traits depending on which parent was which. I've heard of dragons with fur as a result of having a parent from the Nature Spirits family, and others." He took a pause. Would it really be wise to just divulge that?
"A blue TigerVespamon. My mom was a Dorbickmon--Cloudsong of Fianna. She lives in Rosewood, if you two go there. I visit sometimes. All that stuff about templates, though. That's the first time I've ever actually heard of it."
It was admittedly a little interesting. Most did not question what goes into making a Digimon. So, this...Was breaching a lot of ground that both of the lads knew little of.

"In recent memory, there has only been one Digimon that has been capable of making me laugh," Dokamon said to Scarab. "You've probably heard of him. A Dorumon named Hikaru, last I heard he's the king of Ys. I remember it was his general attitude that amused me, something involving bagpipes."
Now that the tension between the two humans had lowered drastically, Hisato theorized that the operating systems are so similar because this world essentially came from human world computers. "That is what I was thinking. The Internet could've played a big part in shaping this world as well, making Digimon out of information on various human world creatures and things. I'd be interested in seeing this world in its infancy if I get the chance."
Then the topic would switch to Digimon genetics in general. Scarab claimed his father to be a blue TigerVespamon, and his mother a Dorbickmon, which was pretty much a big and scary red dragon. "A bug and a dragon... aaand all my brain is doing is giving me mental images of dragonflies," Johan admitted as he sweatdropped. "And you haven't heard about templates? I suppose what I'm referring to is the default image the Digi-Scanner would give when scanning a Digimon. The "canon" look of one, in layman's terms."
"Johan has been studying Digimon and the Digital World for quite some time now. Interesting how he decided to join AEGIS instead of the Digital Field Club, though his hacking skills are handy for the line of work AEGIS handles."
While the group talked, Johan and Dokamon continued installing the OS onto the remaining computers until... well, they ran out of computers. Now all that was left to do was finalize the setup on the computers that finished installing the new OS.

"Oh, yeah, the king. Eh, I can see it. The guy's got charisma to the point where I'm pretty sure he can bring a smile to anyone's face. Bagpipes might be a cultural thing, I wouldn't know."
Thank god for the dissolution of the tension between the humans. Hisato had honestly come here to help the Hagurumon, not to end up in the midst of trouble. Then again, these things tended to lead to trouble one way or another. "Well, there's always Old Terminus. Word has it the portal there contains a gate to a prototype Digital World." Might be more to that, and more to certain other things, but...that was all Hisato knew right now. "But it's still an interesting subject. Ancient Digital World history..."
"That's just Demon Lords and Knights, I bet." Scarab muttered.
"Yeah, from what I know, Scarab came from a Digiegg that formed from a lot of battles between the two." Hisato stated, before Scarab would cut in. "Same way as my brother, really. And 'canon' appearances is just how most of the Digimon of a species look. No one will be one to one the same, I think...But, that's one way to view things."
A hacker? Huh. "AEGIS is a good line of work for hacking, I think...? Can't really study the world if you don't have one to study. Plus as far as I know, the Field Club's an open-source deal. Anyone can contribute to that library." He'd nodnod.
Indeed, the final steps for a lot of the computers was just to finalize the setup. Something Scarab was able to do with relative ease. Hisato was just hitting buttons to do it, himself.

"The king truly is someone I truly respect," Dokamon said with a slight smile forming on his face. "It is hard for me to feel emotions other than a few negative ones such as anger and annoyance. If I had a choice in the matter I'd choose to be someone more like one of the other AEGIS agents, if I'm being honest."
Hisato brought up something that definitely peeked Johan's attention: Old Terminus. "I've heard of Old Terminus, but I didn't know about this portal though. Dokamon and I will have to check it out soon, if we get the time."
Demon Lords and the Knights... apparently Scarab's and his brother's eggs were formed from battles between the two. "I assume you are referring to the Royal Knights? I can't find a lot of information about them, only legends and stories. I don't think they exist, but an ally of mine told me about his encounter with the Demon Lords, so I'm open to being proven wrong."
"It's not that I necessarily 'hack' for AEGIS, at least not all the time," Johan explains. "Part of my job is making sure all our systems are up and operational, and I occasionally look for cracks in the security system in order to patch them up right away."
"One time he accidentally set off the alarms in the middle of the night while doing so," Dokamon nonchalantly said.
"...you just had to bring that up, didn't you?"
"Yes, I did."

...Scarab couldn't really help but wonder if that was resentment he felt from Dokamon. Resentment towards his inability to...be. "...Sounds rough." The Stingmon stated. "Yet you know what emotions outside of anger or disappointment are, right? So...You at least know what they're like whenever you do feel them."
It was tough to triangulate where exactly he was going with this, but it was mainly the idea that maybe Dokamon held some more humanity(?) within than he may have thought. Of course, he didn't know Dokamon very well. This was guesswork.
"Yeah, they're reportedly only legends, but given the 'administrator' of the Digital World is said to reside up in the heavens, it wouldn't surprise me if those legends actually walked the world at some point. They might not exist now, but their mark definitely does."
Meanwhile, with Hisato...Yeah, he may have realized a bit too late that there may have been more to the job than just hacking. That was on him. "Right, right. Testing the limits of a security system's a pretty vital part to making sure it works. ...And I guess sometimes it involves setting off alarms too."
What else, what else...They were pretty much done here, huh? "Yeah, definitely look into it. I would, but the place is...probably not a place I'd fancy being in longer than I have to." Even if curiosity was something that he'd admit that he held for the place.
