It takes one to snow one [Omen]

Omen tensed up as the critter reached down to give her a pat on the head. The action kinda caused her hood to fall back, revealing a full head and ears! Oh. Silence was the name of the two girls' mother. Interesting. Kinda like how her name was Omen...Was it? Hm. Odd. "...I will have to ask she doesn't crack me in half, though. Wispmon are fragile creatures, according to Uncle Joker."
"Ooooh...So the opposite of my mom. She's friendly but we both like having some space most of the time." The Wispmon mused aloud. Grilled cheese? "I...do not know what that is, but I'd like some. It sounds like a nice companion to tea--especially raspberry tea." Yeah, Holly'd definitely know Mae's favorite tea by now.
She looked to Coal. "So your dad and sister are as small as me? ...I can't picture that. It's weird." Omen concluded, before she thought for a moment. "How do you know my mom? Er. How did you meet her, I mean?" She decided to ask that of Holly. What could go wrong?

Holly couldn’t help but stare for a moment and then just chuckle at the cute little mon in front of her. She hadn’t expected that to be fair; most mons that had clothing had it worked into their data so it was firm set in how they were. But that? Well heck that was just adorable!
”Figure of speech; she’ll probably just give you a big ol hug. And really? I’ve never met one before you.”
”Kinda like me and my twin sister then… we both like our space too. Though Amber likes to draw a lot more and I just uh…”
Well coal didn’t really do much of anything past reading and looking at maps of the digital world. She had been wanting to travel for a long time and couldn’t really do that at the moment with all the hub bub all over the place!
”It’s a hot sandwich that’s made mostly out of cheese. I can show you how to make it too! Doesn’t even take that long.”
Holly’s smile continued to earn it’s place on her face; she knew that tea choice was one of mae’s favorites. She had to wonder if that meant that omen had a similar taste palette to her mother. Coal rubbed at her neck and managed an somewhat awkward smile.
”Well Da is a mikemon and Syre is a black-gatomon. Holly here likes keeping to her higher levels like meiphemon or meicrackmon but her meicoomon is just about your size too. Amber is a renamon just like me and Ma is a renamon that tends to switch around between that and shutmon. So kinda varied as a family goes. Oh! I could get a picture of them if you’d like? There’s one around here somewhere...”
Coal knew of a few pictures actually; one of them was on her desk of when she and her sister had been born. It only had the four of them in it since syre and holly were both busy when the picture was taken. Holly blinked a bit and let out a small laugh at the question posed to her.
”Well I met her in the great library back when we used to live there. Suffice to say we met over some books but we also watched anime from time to time together. Haven’t really had the chance to hang out with her as of late… last time I saw her she was turning in some job up in luminas. Though I don’t think we’d count fighting sloth as ‘hanging out’ unfortunately. Even if it was nice to see her again.”
Holly would go over to the stove, fiddling around through the various pans that were kept in it’s underbelly. There were a few large ones but she seemed to settle on a fairly smaller one. Good enough for making a pair of grilled cheeses at a time if she really wanted.
”Your mom is one of the few people willing to stand up for what’s right in the digital world; even if it’s hard.”
Holly would motion for the two to come over to watch what she was doing; first went in the butter to make sure that the sides wouldn’t stick once melted and would also make the bread a little more tasty. Then came in the ‘bare’ sammiches. She figured just basic grilled cheese would do, no fancy cheeses until they figured if they liked them or not!
What holly failed to mention was that her mother was just like that; but she also failed to mention that silence wasn’t her mother. That was a topic that the family hadn’t broached upon for coal or amber yet and it certainly wasn’t the time right in front of company!

"Well, um. Emphasis on rare. Most aren't ever seen outside of the forests, I hear." Omen seemed a great deal more relived now that she had proper assurance that she wasn't going to be snapped in two by one singular hug. Otherwise, she seemed interested in hearing the explanations plus learning who was what.
Granted, she had no idea what a Mikemon was. Only a vague image in her head. She had seen a Gatomon before, though. Just picture that, but black like Coal, perhaps. But, what interested her the most was Holly's answer. Mae had been evasive on how she knew Holly or Syre, like she didn't really want to speak about it. Omen didn't really know why back then, but she did remember that Mae never really trusted her versions of events.
"She's...very busy. And stressed. I know she cares for her friends a lot, but I think taking care of me plus work leaves...very little time to do otherwise. It's part of why I've been doing things on my own a lot, too. And you are correct, I would not call a crisis hanging out either. I think." She took a pause, though. A pause to reflect upon Holly's words as she was beckoned over with Coal.
One of the few.
...
Why were there few? There...there should be more, shouldn't there? "Are there so few because of how hard it is?" A simple question. One that took precedence over everything that wasn't cooking.

”Really now? Hmm… probably doesn’t help that I don’t get out to the forests much...”
Holly rubbed at her chin somewhat thoughtfully; maybe an excursion to one of the many forests was in order down the line? She was curious enough of a person to want to know more about species of digimon. It’s part of the reason she was studying the D-reapers after all! She wanted to know about them too!
”Yeah that sounds about right. Maybe I could help her out sometime, free up some time for her…”
Holly found herself huffing a bit and coal would lean to watch her sister make these grilled cheeses. There was more than enough food for everyone and holly was quick about making a pair of sandwiches for each of them. Though holly would make sure that the food was cooled enough before her guest and sister could take them. Holly paused however when omen asked her that question.
Holly’s silence mixed with her working on the sandwiches felt deafening for a moment and holly couldn’t help but sighing a bit. Coal tilted her head, staring up at her sister while wondering what they were going to say.
”Somewhat. Sometimes people don’t make it back. Sometimes they fight so hard and so much that they give everything including their lives. Sometimes a simple mistake in the wrong place is enough to cost them everything. But those that make it through push forward for the ones that can’t anymore.”
Holly was talking like she learned from experience but with such a heavy topic the meiphemon couldn’t help but chuckle a bit.
”And yes I’d say that it’s also because of how hard it is on people. Some get to stop or focus on something different that’s still a part of supporting those people that are willing to do so much. Part of the reason I’m working on becoming a doctor but… slow going.”
”She’s been doing studying since I could remember! Lots of really hard books.”
Holly would shake her head; keeping a smile on her face while she set up the table for the three of them. She’d put down plates and figured that they wouldn’t need silverware for the grilled cheese… unless omen liked eating stuff with a knife or fork but Holly doubted it.
”What about you Omen? What do you have in mind for yourself or are you like coal here and just want to travel a lot?”
”Hey! I’ve only been out around town and to the desert that one time…”
”I remember~ you wouldn’t stop talking about dragons for weeks!”
Coal felt herself turn a bit red and she’d fidget; yeah that time int he desert was nice and one of the places she didn’t mind. Her fur wasn’t as thick as her mother or sister but… it seemed to be well suited for when it was nighttime there!

Perhaps the fact they were even seeing a Wispmon was a once in a lifetime occurrence. That's what practically everybody told Omen regarding that fact, anyways. She thought nothing of it. They'd see her a lot more times.
"I don't know how successful that'd be. She's...very dedicated." To the point where there were a few colleagues of hers that couldn't BELIEVE that the Fatebreaker and her roommate had kids! Not that she was about to blab about that. Snitches get stitches, and bitches get scritches, after all.
The sandwiches were pretty much done when Omen had asked what she had, and it was evident to the small Digimon that it had manage to give Holly a palpable sense of...pause. People gave their lives in these fights? It...sounded like it should matter a lot more, yet people come back eventually, right?
She did not realize yet that some of those who fought were humans. Who were not afforded such a luxury. "I think I get it...a doctor, though, that takes a long, long time...No matter where you are." Human universities and Digimon universities took in-world years. So, Holly must have been cracking at this for quite some time.
"What I want...Um. That's a tough question to answer." Omen stated, as she hopped up to sit at the table, her tail grappling her sandwich as she started to monch it. "I never had much aspirations, but...I think I want to see what life has for me. I don't think I've been around long, and there's just...so much to do. To see. So many to meet, too..." Omen trailed off.
"...What happened in the desert? Dragons?" She asked Coal, tilting her head.

”Well even then, doesn’t stop me from wanting to help a friend.”
Holly gave a small shrug and smiled down to omen; she could believe that mae had a kid. She was far more mature than holly was and… well if she had to compare them to anyone she’d probably compare mae to her own mother in terms of maturity or combat prowess. You didn’t make it as far and as long as she did without some true grit. The mephemon paused and rubbed at her face with a hand. There she went about thinking about her mother again…
”Your mom sounds pretty cool. Maybe I can meet them sometime? When… uh she’s not busy of course.”
Coal rubbed at the back of her neck wondering quietly what type of mon that Omen’s mother was; she knew very little about her sister’s various friends and even less when it came to their forms. If it was something humanoid and not monstrous? She’d probably struggle a bit.
”Yeah. I’ve been studying for… Hmm. A long time now I guess. Way before coal and amber were born.”
Before she was capable of super mega, before she was capable of making jade. Her basic studies had started around the time that she had stopped being an assassin for that guild. Maybe six months or so after that fact? While she remembered how the events lined up the actual timeframes were a little wonky. Coal tilted her head a bit as her sister seemed to be in deep thought. Even though she was munching away at the grilled cheese along with her guest.
”A good answer, don’t let anyone force you to be who they think you should be. But even if you don’t have aspirations who’s saying you need them? Just enjoy what you want and do what you want.”
Holly managed a smile to omen and would continue eating her portion of the grilled cheese sandwiches while coal nearly sputtered out her own. Having to drink some of her own tea to make sure she didn’t actually do so.
”I ah… uhm… erm...”
”Oh she used one of Silence’s portals from where she was patrolling by mistake. Ended up in the desert for like a week and hung out with a dragon from there for most of it. Afterwards she wouldn’t shut up about them.”
Holly grinned a little bit and leaned on her elbow; her sister was blushing like mad and seemed to shrink just a little bit. Holly reached over and rubbed at the top of her sister’s head.
”First real outing she’s ever had. Coal’s only been to what? The desert, vander tower and snowflake. Not a lot of places really…”
”W-well that’ll change when I start traveling! Just have to save up a little more and get a few more maps so I don’t get lost!”
Coal nodded her head a few times too many and felt like she was shrinking back into her seat. Almost looking like she was going to fall out of it; her face was bead red and she obviously had something in mind for her travels but… what would that be even? Most of her travel plans seemed to include others… just in case.

A good response, all things considered. Omen offered one solitary nod towards Holly at that. "Sure." She told Coal. "She lives up in Luminas, and she's not...very hard to miss if you're ever up there. Mom usually wears a white robe when she's up there--she told me it's a uniform of sorts. One of the few things she has that can persist between forms." Omen nodnodded!
Of course, studies took a while no matter what, so it wasn't surprising at all that Holly had taken quite some time to do her thing. "Nobody can stop me from being me." She reaffirmed. "So...Yes. I agree."
Hung out with a dragon...? Hm. That sounded interesting. "What were they like? Were they a nice dragon? Did they live in sands?" Omen didn't even sound like she wanted to tease Coal or anything. She seemed legitimately curious about this. "I've never met a dragon or anything, so...forgive my undying curiosity." A pause.
"...You don't need to answer if you don't want to." She gave a nod of understanding. Coal seemed so flustered! So, it was probably best to give the option of proverbial escape so the poor girl didn't die of embarrassment.
"Maps, food, and...Hm. Maybe a travel buddy? Those always help." She'd also offer!

”Well if I get to go up there sometime I’ll have to look for her!”
Coal nodded a few times along with omen and then mused over what she could even learn from omen’s mother. She probably had a vast array of knowledge that largely differed from her own siblings or parents. She’d flick her ears and turn to holly.
”Eheh. But i don’t think that was in question was it?”
Holly glanced at coal who seemed to be a little out of sorts with the question and the direction the conversation had taken. She’d gulp down her food and sighed softly. Well there was a lot to go over wasn’t there?
”They were very nice! Very gentle, very warm and friendly. Most people would be scared but I could tell from her core she didn’t mean any harm. She showed me around a bit, but she lived in a cave with her family; I got to meet them too and I just… really wasn’t expecting it.”
Coal seemed a bit exasperated; not everyone from around here would have had the same reaction. Heck most in that situation would have ended up in a fight or perhaps coming to terms that they were lost without any way of getting back. Holly on the other hand grinned a bit and reached out to rub the top of her sister’s head.
”Well once you’ve proven yourself a bit more I figure they’ll let you travel around.”
”I know… and uhm. Well I don’t have many friends but I would definitely want to travel with the ones I have! Or at least someone willing to put up with going kinda slow!”
Coal would beam very brightly while finishing up her grilled cheese; she seemed like she had put in a lot of thought to traveling. Why was she stuck in one place was also a good question… Though it seemed like that particular topic wasn’t being broached on at all.
”Maybe we could travel for a little bit? Do you have anywhere you’d like to see omen? I want to see the whole digital world. Top to bottom!”

"It...tends to go one of two ways. You either run into her, or she runs into you. She always claims it's just the way things go, but...I feel like she just goes out to peoplewatch if need be." It was kinda like one of the more...violent anime that Mae kept on. But let's not dwell on that, right?
"That also kind of matches up with the description of a lot of...Digimon that Mom's met. Specifically this black Dracomon who's family she helped. Definitely not the same one given you're talking about being a girl dragon and the one I'm talking about being a boy." Omen nodnodded. "...Still, it sounds like you had a nice time despite the unexpected trip. I'm...happy for you."
Well, did she have anywhere that she wanted to go? This was a question that was kind of up to her speed... "I don't have many friends either, but I do cherish the ones I do have very deeply...I usually travel alone, though. So I don't mind going slow. Namely because I'm only being slow for myself and nobody's telling me to go fast except myself." Omen took a long pause then and there.
The next part was pretty important, wasn't it?
"I think I'd like to explore the Empyrean Skies some more. Or maybe the Blossom Isles. Or the Tyrant's Labyrinth--I hear there's a lot of stories there. I want to see the whole world too, but I think it's okay to start small before going everywhere else. Does that make sense?"

”I mean isn’t that how you run into most people? I mean. I don’t run into many people because I stay mostly home but uhm… yeah! People watching is fun too; though here it’s mostly miners and they don’t like it when you stare.”
Though it probably didn’t help that coal’s eyes were a little different than most. She’d tilt her head to one side as omen brought up the black dracomon that her mother had helped. Yep that definitely didn’t sound like anyone she knew. She’d give a small shake of the head and adjust in her chair.
”yeah that’s definitely not avalon. She’s a really cool vorvomon. Really friendly and does art! If you’re ever around the desert and run into her you should tell her you know me! She’ll probably like to hang out with you too! Do you remember the name of the Dracomon? And… yeah I had a really nice time; just it was really really hot compared to what I’m used to. Thank you Omen.”
Hearing that omen didn’t have many friends but she cherished the ones she did have resonated with coal quite a bit. She’d give a small smile and nod her head along while omen spoke. Traveling slow and alone also seemed like a good idea too.
”I suppose that makes sense; make your own pace for your own life and adventures. Though I bet that you’ve seen some cool places too?”
Empyrean skies. Blossom Isles. Tyrant’s labyrinth. The first one she knew but the others she didn’t. She’d bite the inside of her cheek and furrow her brows.
”I haven’t heard of the Blossom Isles or Tyrant’s labyrinth. But I think that’s also cause a lot of the pamphlets and information I have are kinda outdated. But that does make sense to me that you’d want to start small. I think if I had to pick a place to go…”
She’d adjust a bit and produce a small map; tapping it against one of her paws with an earnest smile on her face.
”Rosewood or the beaches around whitewater sounded kinda nice. Really chill locations… That or tokyo.”
”...You’ve considered traveling to the human world?”
”Just so I can see what their culture is like. It’s probably a lot different than ours.”
Coal would chirp a bit and note that her drink was getting low. She’d offer to refil the other’s while getting up but if they didn’t need a refill she’d just do so on her own.
”Though… traveling right now is off limits. I really hope that Syre finds that guy she was looking for…”

There was a point to be had there. In that that was indeed how most people just run into people, but given how Mae operated, that was also the main way she even so much as worked in the field. Run into the right people at the right time. Regardless, Omen tilted her head at the revelation of Coal's friend.
A...Vorvomon. Those were the more obsidian-like dragons of the Digital World. Omen knew them as also being quite recent, like Jazamon, but not quite. "Mom never got the name of the Dracomon." She clarified. Omen recalled that detail quite clearly...Much like everything else. "If I'm around the desert, I'll seek her out. A dragon doing art sounds cool!" It...honestly did. Omen was curious as to if she had any specific methodology behind it.
Though, that was for later. "I've been to all of those. I don't like the beaches too much--though I think that was because of the company I had. Half good half bad. Also loud noises. Tokyo is okay, it's huge and easy to get lost in but there's a decent safety net in the form of a lot of digitally aware humans. Rosewood is...my favorite of those three. It's calm, quiet, not much happens, and there's always something developing thanks to the community."
She spoke plainly, and from memory.
"Who's your sister looking for?"

”She’s really cool, really friendly. Probably also one of the only dragon types I’ve met unfortunately. I don’t think any around here count…”
”Well silence does have a few dragon forms but I don’t think she exactly counts heh.”
Holly chuckled lightly and Coal would rub her muzzle with a small nervous smile underneath it. Hearing that the dracomon hadn’t a name to it also meant that it’d be harder for her to find them. Coal would nod her head and hearing that omen would search out the desert if she was in the area? Well coal beamed brightly at that!
”Be sure to bring some shiny stuff, she seems to like that. Or at the very least maybe some food. She has a habit of searing some of her food.”
Coal chuckled lightly and hearing that omen had been all of the places coal wanted to go? Well coal’s eyes lit up and the renamon-x leaned forward. Loud, noisy and good because of company? That made sense. She looked like she wanted to take notes but also hearing that tokyo was HUGE? Well she wanted to go even more now! Rosewood being calm and quiet… well that made sense right?
”Well isn’t rosewood really safe because of what’s around it too? Or well… just so many people wanting to protect it? Uhm…”
Coal paused and looked to holly who blinked; right there was that whole orion business that they couldn’t really talk about. Coal opened up her mouth and she found herself cut off by another somewhat more stern but friendly voice!
”A very bad digimon that’s done a lot of bad things. I’d say more but say too much and we’re liable to give away information. You must be omen; Holly said you’d be coming by.”
The voice belonged to a somewhat cheerful looking shutmon. Wearing what amounte dto a mix of leather, fullplate and a regal looking cloak. A sword sat on her hip; one that wasn’t the stereotypical sword you’d see on their back and the two that would be on her forearms? They were no where to be seen. Likely sheathed or under maintenance.
”I’m silence. Coal’s mother.”
Coal would get up and after a moment go over to her mother to give them a big hug; one of which was returned with the renamon-x being lifted off of the ground.
”Patrol ended up being a bit shorter than I expected. Have I missed much?”
”Just some tea and grilled cheese!”
”Heh. Well maybe then I’ll make sure to treat you three to something nicer than grilled cheese later.”
”They weren’t that bad…”
”Oh I’m just teasing holly.”
Silence chuckled and set down her daughter, moving over to the table after picking out something to drink from the fridge. She’d flick her ear and look omen over; smiling warmly after a moment.
”You look quite a bit like one of my squires…”

The gist that Omen was getting out of this was that dragons outside of the Valley of Dragons were...pretty rare in general. That was an oddity that she'd likely need to look into a bit later. "Shiny stuff and...food, got it." Maybe steak? People always liked steak barring certain circumstances.
"Rosewood, from what I understand, is so safe because of the sheer amount of effort that went into it by Digimon considered heroes of the world, and civilians alike. At least, that's mom's hypothesis on it." Omen nodnodded, before a new voice sort of caused her to jump! And turn in Silence's direction whilst doing so.
Omen had seen Shutmon before, but Silence was one that she had never seen in her life--a snow white wolf decked out in armor that befitted a knight more than anything. "I figured. The name was not spoken with any undertones of kindness. Hi, I'm Omen. It's nice to meet you, Miss Silence. Coal and Holly have both been really nice to me."
Plus... "The sandwiches were pretty nice. Simple to make, too. But, I'm not one to turn free food down!"
Did she really bear such a resemblance to someone else, though? Omen stared a little at Silence at that. "Huh, really? What's your squire like? Wispmon in general are pretty rare, so I-I'm moderately surprised that I'd hear about another one so soon!"
How'd Silence respond to that?

”She’s pretty friendly too, so I doubt she’d do much more than want to talk to you if you ran into her.”
Coal smiled a little bit and adjusted in her seat; hearing that the location that she had been talking about had been built by not only heroes of the digital world but also civilians made sense to her why everyone would be so protective of it. Not having a clue that her mother’s prior iteration was one of those people that had put their life on the line for the very place the knights called home.
”That makes sense… I might want to see if anyone there could give me a more indepth explanation or maybe see if anyone has recorded stuff… I like knowing these sort of things. Blame holly for that.”
Coal shot her sister a look and holly couldn’t help but chuckle; the meiphmon certainly had entertaine coal’s curiosity more than once. With omen jumping to silence’s appearance the shutmon couldn’t do much more than grin at that response. She wasn’t exactly the sneakiest wolf out there but… there was certainly the amusement laying there.
”Nice to meet you too. I’m glad, I’d be surprised otherwise.”
Silence gave both holly and coal a grin, the latter of which earning a small ruffled batch of fur on the top of her head. She’d flick her ears and let out a small laugh at hearing that bit about the free food. There was always food here and both parents made sure of that in one way or another!
”Well our door is always open, so if you need to or would just like to stop by I don’t think anyone would argue with setting out another place for the meals we have.”
Then came the topic of Silence’s squire; the wispmon relative of Leucrotamon was just as rare as it’s prior iteration. But the question of what he was like? Silence had to think about that for a moment, counting on her fingers…
”He’s loyal to a fault, Vicious in combat, dark and fairly Zealous. The sort that you’d expect to be kept on a tight leash. Though he does a good job of keeping to himself there’s rarely a time where I don’t feel him following me. He’s very overly protective of those that he calls friend.”
”...He’s also really good with kids.”
”He’s really good with you or at least puts up with you sweetheart. I don’t know how good he is with others yet. He can be a bit wild but.. I appreciate his appetite for combat and learning.”
Silence eventually decided to take a seat, setting her hands on the table and grinning at omen.
”His name is a bit longer than yours too. But I think it’s because he’s a bit edgy. Can’t really fault him for that though given how others treated his early evolution in the Village. Sepulchure. If you run into him you’ll know…”
Silence couldn’t help but turn her head to holly who would let out a little cough. The both of them could feel the squire’s signal. It was slight and moved around a lot but it was obvious that he was just out of range of the town. He didn’t like to come into them for multiple reasons.
”Maybe sometime I can have you meet him. Though I have to admit knowing the rarity of wispmons and their evolutions makes me wonder how similar of styles you two would have in combat… if at all.”
Silence rubbed at her chin; a strange sort of look in her eye. It was a mix of curiosity and well… There was a little bit of that wild nature she had herself; the sort that wanted to fight but also wanted to teach. Silence was… well. She liked to fight but she liked to make sure that those she cared for or that others cared for were well off and well protected.
