As Punimon and Tsunomon he is an energetic and playful digimon with bit of an affinity for mischief, though it is never of malicious intent. Even from birth he seems to be quite astute and observant. After digivolving from those forms his love of mischief has lessened but is still there. He is intelligent which allows him to adapt well as a strategist. He is a friendly guy with a that can come off as charasmatic and charming. He is somewhat flirtatious when he sees someone he is attracted to but, since he is relatively young, his flirting will sometimes backfire. When it does, he doesn't let it get him down for long with him easily recovering for his dissapointment Due to being the son of Mandrake and Lothar he was taught to be streetwise in both the Digital World and Human World. However he can also be a bit reckless and hotheaded at times and can get into trouble because of it. As a fighter he is disciplined and serious but he can be arrogant at times which can lead to trouble for him.

In his holosuit LJ takes on the form of a teenage human of African descent. He is tall but not near as tall as Lothar in this disguise. He also has a lean body with a slight muscle tone with short black hair and brown eyes. He wears a black short sleeve tee shirt and a green jacket over it. His shoes are also the same shade of green that his jacket is. His wears grey jeans to complete the outfit.

Ever since Mandrake and Lothar got back together they began journeying together and, sometime after achieving their respective champion levels of Wizardmon and Leomon, the two childhood friends had begun to feel more than a sense of friendhip for one another but neither would admit it to one another. After various crazy escapades the two finally admitted thier affection for one another and soon they created a purple egg as a result of their feelings for each other. A few weeks later LJ was hatched from a purple digi egg in an isolated cabin in the Digital World that belonged to Lothar's parents. Mandrake and Lothar went to that spot to find a quiet place for their child to be born. His parents were fascinated by his unique color scheme as well as the fact that he seemed to start life as a virus type variant of Punimon.
One of the earliest adventures he can remember was back when he was a purple Punimon when he and his parents, Mandrake and Lothar, came across an old house while traveling through a storm. What he remembered most was two mean digimon one was a SkullSatamon and the other was his Guardromon butler. It seemed the SkullSatamon meant ill will and though he didn't understand much, LJ knew how scared he was when he and his parents were captured as the SkullSatamon planned to kill LJ and his parents. Somehow the family managed to escape much to LJ's relief and, after resting somewhere else, continued on adventuring. After traveling with his parents for sometime the young digimon eventually reached his rookie form and decided to adventure on his own and he hopes he'll never face such terror again.
