"Hmm, if we can't get someone to ferry us then at least storing your digimon can be an option. One of the upgrades the car has is flight. That and Kshin can ride in the booster seat my son used to use." Mandrake said as he set his staff under the table in front of the couch.
Lothar had come out with a clean and still sleeping Kshin cradled in his arm. "It seems Kshin was more tired than we thought. The entire time I was washing him in the sink he didn't wake once." Lothar said as he sat down next to Mandrake gently setting Kshin in the Wizardmon's lap. Kshin's only response was to snuggle into Mandrake's belly.
Mandrake used his telepathy to quietly fill Lothar in on what he missed while he was cleaning Kshin before Mandrake said "Whether we get a boat or not we probably should make sure we have enough food for such a journey. By boat we should reach the island by the end of the day and by air we should get there in at most a couple of hours."

"Well, I can help carry some snacks in my backpack, so the three of us should be good when the time comes. And we can help chip in to pay for someone to ferry us if needed. We don't have a lot of Digital World money but every Bit helps, right?" Hana stated, unaware of the pun she had just made.
"As it turns out, some collectors in Terminus City are really interested in buying stuff from the Human World. Remember that Etemon that was obsessed with collecting old CD's?" Data added. "That guy was kinda weird."
"Yeah, he REALLY needed to learn the meaning of personal space." Hana agreed with a grimace. "We're getting off topic, though. Before we actually head out to the island, I really do think we should take some time to train Data and Rush. If they're gonna have a chance against the pirates, they'll NEED to at least be able to reach champion level, whether naturally or with a digimental. Either way it'll take some time, though."

"Lothar and I probably have enough money to pay for a ride on a ship since we have saved up quite a bit in our travels." Mandrake said as he was now gently rubbing Kshin's back causing the youngster to softly trill in his sleep.
When Data mentioned an Etemon with issues with personal space, Lothar said "Mandrake and I came across a MadLeomon with issues with personal space before our son digivolved to his in training form. He was pestering Mandrake until I knocked him flat."
At the mention of training and obtaining digimentals, Mandrake said "Having a digimentals for Data and Rush would come in handy especially if Ouryumon's minions are at more manageable levels and if my illusions alone aren't enough to deal with them."
Kshin began to whimper in his sleep as if in the grips of a potential nightmare. He snuggled closer to Mandrake and, to the Wizardmon's surprise, began to nibble on his clothing until he became relaxed again. It seemed the chewing behavior was soothing to Kshin.

"Well, I'm still willing to help chip in. It wouldn't feel right to make you have to shoulder the whole cost." Hana said with a small frown. "We may only have about... 2000 Bits, but we're willing to use them to help Kshin."
Data and Rush both nodded in agreement with Hana's words.
"Anyways, here's my idea for what our next step. I think we should split into two groups for the time being. Data, Rush and I will go out and try to track down a digimental, while the three of you look around to see if you can find someone willing to ferry us to the island. Once we've accomplished both of those, we can arrange to meet up and set sail to the ruins. Do you and Lothar have a way we can contact you if we split up?" Hana continued.
"Ah, yes. Divide and conquer. That could work." Data stated in agreement.
When Kshin started nibbling on Mandrake, Hana was almost overwhelmed by the adorableness of the action. "Aww, that's so cute."

"Don't worry about money for the ship. I'm sure Lothar and I can handle it since we have over 36,000 bits. If you spend your money you should worry about spending it on things to benefit yourself and your partners, Hana." Mandrake said.
"As for splitting up, I think that would be a good idea. That would give you guys time to find a digimental for each of your partners and perhaps make some more money for use in case of emergencies." Lothar suggested.
"Don't worry about problems with getting in contact. Lothar and I plan on staying here in Whitewater for a little while anyway. That and when you three get back to Whitewater I'll know due to my telepathic abilities so I'll be able to not only sense you guys but communicate with you telepathically to instruct you about where to meet us. In the meantime, Kshin will be safe with us so don't worry." Mandrake said as he looked at Kshin as he was nibbling. The action was indeed cute but the little one had managed to get over to his bionic arm and was nibbling on that. Of course Mandrake didn't feel the action since it was an artificial limb but gently nudged Kshin away from his left arm with a gentle push. By then Kshin was not chewing anymore in his sleep and seemed to be comfortable again.

"Yeah, alright. That sounds good to me. As parents, you guys would probably be better able to take care of Kshin." Hana conceded. "We'll come back and get in touch with you once we find some digimentals. And once we do, we can head out to kick some pirate butt."
Hana started moving towards the door, but was interrupted by Data.
"Slow down there, partner. I know you're anxious to get going, but we're not quite done here yet." Data sternly told his partner, before turning towards Mandrake. "Sorry to keep bugging you with questions, sir, but since you have acquired digimentals of your own, do you have any advice that could help us in tracking down ones that we can use? It would help if we knew what signs to keep an eye out for."
"Oh, yeah. That would be a good thing to ask. I guess I got too excited." Hana admitted sheepishly.

Hana's eagerness to get things done reminded Mandrake of how he was somewhat reckless as Impmon. Looking back it seemed so long ago despite being a relatively short time in human terms. Data managed to reel in his eager partner though as he asked for more information on digimentals. When Data asked for advice pertaining to said digimentals, Mandrake said "Don't worry, Data, you are hardly bugging me with your questions. After all what was the human saying? I think it was 'knowledge is power'. In a way I understand the need for wanting to learn. I guess that was one way I am like my father but getting back to the topic of digimentals, while some of them are hidden from sight there are others out in the open. However, I have heard that the digivices that humans carry can detect energy signatures from things like digimentals. They tend to give off less energy then things like the various anomalies."

"Thank you, that that will definitely help us a lot." Data gratefully stated, bowing slightly towards the Wizardmon. "I do believe that is all we needed for the time being."
"Yes, thank you very much. Operation: Armor Hunt will soon be ready for liftoff." Hana added excitedly. Rush nodded in agreement, hopping up and down excitedly. "When the time comes to head out, we won't let you guys down."
"Calm down, you guys. Don't burn yourselves out before we even leave the building." Data wearily chided. "You both need to learn to slow down a bit. Honestly, why do I always end up being the sensible one."
"Sorry, Data. I just really want to get started. The digimentals don't find themselves, you know." Hana replied.
"That doesn't mean we should just charge in recklessly. We need to think things through, and come up with a plan." Data retorted.
Poor Rush was left on the sidelines, confused about the argument between Hana and Data.

Mandrake nodded as Data said thank you and then the Wizardmon replied "No thanks are needed. If only everyone was as willing to help those in need then both the Digital and Human Worlds would be far better places."
It seemed both Hana and Rush were excited by the information they received and appeared all to eager to begin there journey for their digimentals. Both Mandrake and Lothar understood the excitement of adventure all to well seeing as the pair never stayed in one place permanently. Mandrake looked down at Kshin as the little one began grumbling before opening his eyes and looking around. "Where am I?" Kshin said in a confused but not frightened state.
"It's okay, Kshin, we're at a hotel that Mandrake and I were renting a room for. You were so tired that you even slept through the bath I gave you." Lothar explained as Kshin blinked his bleary eyes before nodding in understanding as he realized he was perched in Mandrake's lap but the blue eyed Wizardmon didn't seem particularly bothered by it.
"Don't worry, Kshin, you didn't miss much during your nap. All we were doing was planning a trip to the ruins of the city from the map your grandfather managed to leave us." Mandrake said as he gently rubbed Kshin's back. Then Mandrake turned to Hana and said "Data is right, Hana. While it is good to be excited about going on adventure, in the Digital World one must be more careful than when in the Human World."

Upon hearing the Wizardmon's words, Hana's enthusiasm quickly deflated. "You're right. You're both right. I really do need to take this more seriously. This isn't a game. We're actually going to risk our lives to stop a group of pirates. I get so excited that I forget just how serious things can get. I guess I haven't been a very good friend, have I?"
"It's alright, Hana. You are forgiven. I can hardly blame you for getting overexcited. I sometimes forget that we haven't even been together for a month yet. Rush and I will always be here to help you, as long as you let us." Data reassured. "Everyone makes mistakes, so let's just chalk this up as a learning experience, okay?"
"Yeah, okay." Hana replied, wiping away the tears that had started forming in her eyes. She then reached over and gave Data a warm hug. Hana looked over at Rush, and held an arm out, signaling him to join in. "Come here, you goofball."
Rush jumped on the other two as he joined the hug, and ended up knocking all three of them to the floor. This caused all three of them to start break out into laughter.
"I love you guys so much." Hana stated happily.
"I think it's safe to say the feeling's mutual." Data agreed.
"Love brother. Love Mama. Love, love, love!" Rush happily added.

"Don't feel too bad, Hana, life is always a learning experience no matter how old you get. Life is all about learning from your mistakes and growing as a person." Mandrake said watching as the girl enveloped her partners in a heart-warming hug. Not wanting to interrupt them despite Rush calling Hana Mama, Mandrake reached over silently taking Lothar's hand with the Leomon gently squeezing his hand in response.
Kshin, who was not paying attention to Mandrake's and Lothar's display of affection, looked as if he was trying to puzzle out why Rush called his tamer Mama. Scrunching his face in concentration for a few moments he then said "Hey, Hana, why does Rush call you, Mama? You aren't a digimon." Ah the blunt honesty that came from being young.
Mandrake and Lothar chuckled at Kshin's statement but did not cease holding hands. If Hana wanted to explain she would. It was that simple to them.

"Well, no. I'm not actually his mother. He just kinda sees me as one, I think?" Hana said, unsure of how to answer Kshin's question. As she sat up, it was obvious that this topic made her a bit uncomfortable. "I don't really know how to explain it."
"Mama is Mama. Egg hatch. Rush See Mama. Mama hug Rush. Mama loves Rush, and Rush loves Mama!" Rush tried to explain.
"Rush sees the world a lot differently from most people, be they human or digimon. What I believe happened is that since Hana was the first person he saw when our egg hatched, he sees her as our mother. Sort of like how certain animals imprint on the first thing they see after being born." Data clarified.
"Thanks, Data. I tried to explain that I'm not his actual mother, but Rush just refused to accept it. 'Mama is Mama!', he'd say every time I tried." Hana said in exasperation. "But I do see him and Data as family, so it isn't really a big deal. I've just learned to roll with it."

"It isn't completely unheard of for some digimon to imprint on those they first see, Kshin, but it doesn't happen often." Lothar explained to Kshin.
Kshin nodded as he took in the information provided before he said "So that means Rush is normal despite acting odd since I've met him."
Though Kshin seemed to be taking in the information well Mandrake said "Not only digimon act odd by some standards Kshin. Humans do as well but it is still wise to be cautious even though not all strangers mean ill will some do whether they're human or digimon."
"My mom once told me though weaker there are many ways humans and digimon are similar though Hana is the first human I've been near." Kshin said. It seemed that he lacked prejudice towards humans that other digimon sometimes had. Which was good seeing as Mandrake and Lothar were bound to come across others.
A thought then came to mind as Mandrake opened up a mental link to Lothar for the sake of privacy and telepathically asked "Lothar I was thinking about Kshin. Since our son LJ has began traveling on his own and Kshin has no one being an orphan, how would you feel toward adopting him?"
"I wouldn't mind taking him in. He is too young to be on his own and needs someone to care for him but I think we should deal with the pirates first before we make it official." Lothar said back over the link before it closed.
"Mandrake, Lothar, are you two okay? You seemed to zone out for a moment." Kshin said wondering what was going on.
"Yes, Kshin, we're fine. I was just talking to Lothar with my telepathy about plans for after the pirates are dealt with." Mandrake answered. Though Kshin was curious of the conversation he said nothing. If it was important he would likely be told later.

"Well, you don't have to worry about Rush. He may act differently from other Digimon, but he's friendly and easy to get along with. Unless you're a bird. Birds just don't seem to like him for some reason." Data said.
"Yeah, we still don't know why they hate him so much." Hana agreed, getting up from the floor.
"Birds are bad! Birds are bad!" Rush added. He curled up on the floor as he was reminded of his previous encounters with some angry birds. Hana went over and rubbed his back until he calmed down.
"Oh, I just thought of something! Mr. Mandrake, since you've got some digimentals yourself, would you be okay with helping us practice using them before we head out to the island? Once we find some, I mean. Obviously." Hana asked.
"Indeed, getting some practice in would be a good idea. As long as Mandrake is okay with helping us, I don't see any problems with it." Data agreed.

"Being friendly does make it easier most of the time when dealing with others, I've learned that myself." Mandrake said shortly before Rush curled up on the floor as it was obvious he was enduring previous bad memories involving birds.
Kshin walked to the end of Mandrake's lap as if trying to figure out how to get down and, noticing the Dorimon's dilemma, Mandrake used his telekinesis to lower Kshin to the floor. Though Kshin was surprised he put that aside for the moment as he walked over to the distressed Rush and nuzzled him before he said "Don't worry, Rush, I'm sure not all birds are bad. There has to be at least one that would want to be your friend. There are many bird digimon in the Digital World after all." Kshin didn't know what kind of bird upset Rush but he was trying his best to make him feel better.
"I would be glad to help you practice though my armor champion form of Coelamon isn't very good on land since it is an ancient armored fish." Mandrake said with a chuckle before he continued "So I can use my armor ultimate of Thunderbirdmon as long as I hold back my strength."
"At least holding back your strength is relatively easy for you, Mandrake, since you don't kill others when you fight." Lothar said as Mandrake gently squeezed his hand.
