It took her a while to notice, but the other customers in the convenience store were definitely avoiding her. Was it because Matsuri was looking extra cute today? She had found a new (for Matsuri) hair ribbon in the trash, so she decided to wear it before coming in. Sure, it smelled a little bad, but it wasn't much worse than how Matsuri usually smelled, and she had already gotten used to it, so it didn't bother her anymore!
Something in her backpack began to squirm, and a light rumbling could be heard. He was getting really hungry, and Matsuri could relate. But they were almost out the door, and they just had to be extra careful! Matsuri was wearing a really baggy coat with a buncha pockets, so there was a good chance she could get away with-
"Hey! Young lady! You have to pay for those!" Oh. Oh no! The manager was onto her! She tried to hurry out the exit, but the manager had a longer stride and managed to get in front of her. "Excuse me, miss, but are your parents nearby!?" The manager didn't look like he had any intention of moving out of the way as he blocked the door.
"Oh... I don't have any parents anymore, mister!" Matsuri answered in a surprisingly cheerful tone. "But I have to get going now, so can you move out of the way, pretty please?"
The manager's eyes softened as Matsuri answered him, so Matsuri thought that he might be a really nice man! But he wasn't nice enough, sadly. He reached over and grabbed the little girl's wrist. "Then you're going to have to wait here while someone calls the police!"
Oh no! Matsuri was told that if a stranger grabbed her then she should yell for the police! But the police were gonna come to arrest her! And Matsuri wasn't ready to go to jail just yet! She still needed to learn to make a shiv, or picked out what her prison name was going to be, and she still wasn't sure what if she wanted to get a tattoo or not! "Oh... But... Ah..." She looked like she was going to break down and cry, but she got her act together and yelled out, "Go, Mr. Piggybutt!"
And from out of her backpack, a little pink blob of a creature with her ears crisscrossed at the forehead poked her little head out of Matsuri's backpack. It gave the manager a smile which grew wider and wider, until a gigantic set of horrific teeth were bared towards him. The manager let out a scream of shock and horror, letting go of Matsuri's wrist and jumped back so far he fell over.
"It's time to run!" Matsuri yelled out, making a mad dash out of the exit.
Matsuri ran for a really long time after that. Like, a whole ten minutes. But they finally got their prize! Matsuri ducked into a back alley, reached into her pockets and pulled out two chocolate bars! They were wrapped in a gold foil, so that meant they were better-tasting than the silver-foil ones, right? She unwrapped one of them, crouching in between the narrow space between a trash bin and a pile of cardboard boxes. She set her backpack on the side, letting Mr. Piggybutt out putting the little pink creature on her lap.
"Toko toko!" The little pink creature proclaimed, making whatever little animal noises rabbit-pigs were supposed to make. At least, that's what Matsuri thought it was. She had found it abandoned in the streets, so she started taking care of it. It had big ears like a rabbit, and it looked like a pig's butt, so she named it Mr. Piggybutt!
Matsuri handed Mr. Piggybutt her chocolate bar, and almost immediately the little creature began chomping down without reservations. "No, no! You can't eat it all at once! You have to save some for later!" Matsuri tried to reason with the animal. But it was to no avail as the creature devoured the entire chocolate bar within seconds.
Matsuri sighed. Ever since she and Mr. Piggybutt became friends, Matsuri had to steal food a lot more often. And she was running out of stores that she could walk inside of. There had been too many close calls lately!
But Matsuri Usatora wasn't someone who worried about the future! Nope! She was gonna be just fine!
