Reward: Bits
Dylan:
Personality: Dylan was a fish out of water for a good while before his story began, ever since moving to Japan six weeks before his story began in earnest. Even though his current level of Japanese is remedial, he is expected to become more proficient with the language with practice, experience, immersion, and maybe a good tutor if he can find one. This language barrier has inhibited his social life a bit, which is part of why he's so strangely drawn to Shoutmon. "Confused" is how Dylan would describe his default state of being since learning about all things digital, and his freshness to this whole concept is clearly affecting his focus. It's hard to look both ways before crossing or keep his mind on an exam when so many grander questions long to be answered about digimon, the digital world, and other people who are a part of this strange secret society. All of these things are not helping him achieve the thing he currently strives for most: a sense of normalcy. On the other hand, the fact remains that on some deeper level Dylan is self-assured and ambitious. He knows from Shoutmon that digimon who get power from humans, as well as the humans themselves, have a tendency to go on and do great things in at least one world. As much as Dylan doesn't see himself as some chosen hero, he has to admit that when it comes to the world of potential that fits in his back pocket, he can't help but be... curious.
Personal History: The fact that Dylan moved from Boston to Tokyo just six days prior to his legend's beginning is old news. More recently, he fortuitously met a Shoutmon while he and some other digimon were mixing it up in a flower shop. It wasn't long after that things got very digital very quickly. A week later, he became embroiled in a large-scale Numemon incursion in his supposedly-normal school, which is also when he learned there were digimon shrewdly disguised as humans among the general population. Ever since learning this Dylan has become very wide-eyed and observant of people around him, like he's always trying to suss out the digimon in the crowd, which is a break from his old default to disinterest in the world around him. As his story progresses, this boy will probably become even more vested in the world as a whole rather than just the parts that exist within arm's reach, and that's without factoring in Shoutmon's constant demands for Dylan to visit him there. It's a given, of course, that Dylan and Shoutmon will embark on some sort of music project, but it's not clear whether it will evolve into a traditional live act or a strict duo with Shoutmon. The possibility of a trio also exists, especially since at present Shoutmon and Dylan live about two miles and one portal apart. It wouldn't be unlike Shoutmon to go and bring in a new face without asking first...
Shoutmon:
Personality: "Yes," is all this section would say if it were written by Shoutmon himself. A more accurate but similarly brief assessment might call him a "firecracker." Shoutmon has also been called a "wild card," a "brain," a "smartass" and a "reckless idiot," which are all about equally correct. A Shoutmon with a love of music is practically a given; a Shoutmon with a love of heavy rock like this one is the only one who could have been partnered with Dylan. Shoutmon has taken to his newfound partnership with Dylan with a mountain of enthusiasm, which has rather inflated his own sense of self-importance and personal pride. Shoutmon is eager to prove himself to Dylan, which is a big reason why he has been so gung-ho in most of their time together so far. Shoutmon's mood is very easily swayed, with only the of stimuli able to make his demeanor flip like a switch. Long-term exposure to Dylan, someone who prefers a calm and stable environment, could either cause a great deal of friction down the road or, more optimistically, it will help them both find a healthy middle ground. At the moment Shoutmon doesn't really know what it means to have a Tamer, but he's taking it in stride with gusto just like most of his experiences in life. He'll have to figure out exactly what he wants out of this partnership eventually, though; without some guiding principle beyond how "totally freakin' epic" it is, Shoutmon is liable to run into a crisis of purpose down the road. As grim as that sounds, forging his own path in this crazy world is Shoutmon's whole experience. This task does not scare him - it thrills him.
Personal History: Before linking up with Dylan, Shoutmon lived a transient lifestyle. Nowhere in particular was home, but that was OK because in the same sense the whole world was his home. When a digivice appeared in his and Dylan's hands, the size of Shoutmon's playground only doubled. Chances are that if one named any random town in the digital world, Shoutmon could in turn name his favorite place to have a good time and at least one local acquaintance... as long as the place isn't in the human world. Shoutmon has hardly set foot in the human world, in fact - the times that he has have only been fortuitous right-place-right-time placements when Dylan most needed a digimon by his side. It's almost certain that as he and Dylan grow closer they will bond over music and even start some musical project together. Unlike Dylan, however, Shoutmon has no personal ambitions of fame or glory. It's hedonism in a sense, but whatever leads to a pleasurable, fulfilled life is all that Shoutmon is after. If Dylan is the one to take the lead from there, that's just fine with him. The only thing Shoutmon would personally demand out of his own future is to get closer to Dylan and, together, make it a bond worth having.
