It was a snowy day for Valentine this year. It was only a very gentle slow falling snow though, like in those romance movies. A few days prior, Yori signed up for a date on something called Tamernet. She wasn't sure at first, meeting new people wasn't her forte and she never really dated anyone in her life. However, her Digimon partner, Shiro convinced her to go with it saying that she needs more friends. He also told her that he would her phone to sign her up if she wasn't going to do it.
Yori spent a lot of time looking at herself in the mirror. She was putting on her trademark heavy eyeliner and tried to mess with her hair before giving up and just doing the same thing she does every day. As for clothing, well that was a bit complicated. She knew that it was going to be at a restaurant and a rather fancy as well. Seeing that most of her clothing are not very high end by any means, she did had one thing that could be called fancy. It was a small purple robe that was knee length. She could wear leggings underneath it to fight off the cold. She debated for a bit on if she would put her arm warmers as well. In the end, she just took a very long patterned black and white scarf and a small almost military kind of jacket. That was pretty much the only thing she had so would have to do. Looking at her feet, she then realized that she didn't have anything fancier than boots. Taking a small pair of leather boots, Young Yori was now ready.
Now that she was ready, the girl with purple hair sneakily went out of her house avoiding her mother in the way. Once she got out, she took her phone and traced the best way to get to the restaurant. She looked around her for a bit and was surprised by the number of people holding hands. Her first reaction was rolling her eyes but she had to admit that it was kind of cute. Taking little time to get to the said meeting place, Yori mentally began panicking. She hoped that whoever her date was would find her a least a tiny bit pretty.
It didn't take long for her to arrive at the destination. It was getting a bit chilly but she wasn't going to let that make her go away seeing that she did all that preparation for this one valentine's day. Yori couldn't help to look inside from the large windows of the restaurant. No one was alone in it and all smiling and most likely enjoying their time. She would stay in front of the window for a bit longer before turning back and look at her feet. Asking for a picture on the Tamernet would have been a good idea but that was way too late now.
Sighing heavily and crossing her arms, she didn't notice that there was someone that seemed to be waiting for someone as well. The girl looked at her for a moment before opening her mouth.
"Erm, hi?" She tried to get her attention without looking too creepy. "Are you, erm... Waiting for someone?"

For such a high-end restaurant, Reiko was criminally underdressed... unless denim suddenly became fancy without her finding out about it. She had drawn the ire of many more couples around, each of which were significantly better-dressed than the twenty two-year-old. But it was freaking cold, and there was no way that Reiko was going to wear her fancier clothes at a place where she ate. It just wasn't worth the trip to the laundromat afterwards.
So the young woman stood around with her hands in the pockets of her denim jacket, along with her dark-blue shirt underneath and a pair of jeans that she thinks that she might have only wore once since it had last been washed. Denim was pretty much the only thing that she owned that didn't have cat hair on them nowadays, for her two freeloading cat pals decided to create makeshift bedding using her laundry baskets. But they didn't like the feel of her jeans and jacket. Eventually she would stop by a pet store and get them some proper beds, but first she needed on her rent and after that she needed to get some groceries and supplies and...
Reiko turned her head towards a young woman talking to her. Dark purple hair, sharp nose, lots of eyeliner. Kind of skinny, too. Was she some rocker or something? She supposed that even musicians dated on Valentine's after all...
"Ah, sorry..." She supposed she was standing in her way, so Reiko moved a little to the side to let her pass. But she didn't move. Oh, so she was waiting for someone, too... "Oh yeah, I'm still waiting for a date right now..." It seems like the young woman hadn't quite put two and two together. Making a mental grocery list took some effort, after all!

Yori looked at the other girl for a moment a bit unsure if this was her date or not. By the look of it, it didn't seem like they were going to the same place but who was she to talk about fashion. The girl with purple hair took a step back before blinking a few times. She just looked at the person in front of her from head to toe with her mouth slightly open. "Oh." She simply said a bit surprised as her eyes met the eyes of the older lady. The thought that she might be the one that she was waiting for did pass through her mind. "I'm also waiting for my date..." It was easy to see that she was quite shy. Crossing her hands behind her back for a moment, Yori then took a slight bow and quickly realized that they were most likely indeed waiting for each other. "Oh!" Her cheeks went a bit red as she tried to apologize. "I'm so sorry! I think you are my date!" She said a bit too loud.
To be fair she wasn't sure why she was apologizing but she had no clue what to do. "I'm Yori Reiko." She then managed to say before moving her hands toward the lady in blue. Both her hands reached forward for some kind of awkward shake or holding. It was easy to see that she wasn't good at introductions or perhaps any kind of human interactions. Now she felt like she was a bit over, or underdressed, with her dress. It was most likely too little for this weather, but she really wanted to look pretty and her cheek got a tad redder while shivering a bit.
"You look nice!" She then said nervously. That felt like it was the right thing to say. After saying that she stared at the older lady in the eyes for maybe a bit too long for comfort. Truth to be told, even if she knew her name was Reiko from the Tamenet, she somehow did not picture her being a girl. While she didn't mind it but it was kind of awkward that she asked a girl, and a pretty one on top of that, to be her Valentine. Her eyes got bigger for a moment. She not so secretly hoped that the person in blue wouldn't mind that they set a date with a woman as well. If so, it was going to be very awkward.
"Erm... Do you want to go inside?" Yori finally asked timidly. Her face turned to look at the window of the restaurant and really felt that maybe they shouldn't go inside, it looked way too fancy for them now. It was then that she realized a very big mistake from her. Her left hand quickly dug into her jackets but felt nothing at all. The girl with purple eyes had forgotten to bring money of any kind. She swore silently and looked at the ground for a split second. "Actually, how about we erm... walk a bit?"
Hopefully, she might be able to not buy anything until she finds a clever way to tell her date that she was very, very unprepared for this special day.

As Reiko watched Yori put two-and-two together and realize the circumstances at hand, Reiko simply shrugged in response. Yori introduced herself, but to be perfectly honest, Reiko never bothered to learn her date's name. They were gonna introduce each other to themselves anyway, right? "Well... even if you aren't my date, you'll do. I don't want to wait any longer. And if we're not each other's dates... I guess our actual dates can just hook up or something..."
Yori bowed and then offered Reiko her hands in some sort of weird handshake. So Reiko just held them and shook each on in what was clearly an awkward moment. But she didn't seem particularly perturbed by it in the slightest. And then Reiko realized she hadn't introduced her self. "Oh yeah, I'm Reiko. Reiko Suzuki. Nice to meet you..." She didn't even acknowledge Yori's compliment or respond with her own. They were going for a date. Of course they were going to look nice! But at least the introductions were out of the way! And now was the time to go inside and have a nice meal, except...
Apparently her date didn't want to go inside. Instead she wanted to... walk around a bit? Even though she was clearly underdressed? "You sure you don't wanna go where somewhere less... outside?" She thought about it or a moment, and realized that a meal probably wasn't the best first impression for poor Reiko to make on a stranger. She had a bad habit of... not getting food into her mouth. It was seriously frustrating sometimes.
So Reiko shrugged again and nodded. "Well... let's go for a walk, then. Got a place in mind?" She slipped her jacket off and handed it to the young woman. Reiko's date clearly looked uncomfortable, so maybe this would help things out a bit? Reiko was wearing a long-sleeved shirt underneath, as well as a tanktop underneath that, so it wasn't like she was going to freeze any time soon. And even if she did start to get cold, she'd just take it back. Well... unless Reiko was such a bad date that Yori ended up running away with Reiko's jacket. But that would just be rude!

Yori bit her lower lip as her date asked if she would rather go someplace other than outside which made way more of a fun idea than just walking in the cold. However, knowing that she didn't have any kind of money on her, the poor girl was trying really hard to find something clever to say and do. They could go walking but she knew that it was just a very temporal solution. It was quite easy to see how embarrassed she looked with her red cheeks. "Oh." She then said as she took out her cellphone. "I guess we can ask Google for nice places to go..." She began typing on her cellphone for a few seconds trying to find spots that would be nice to see. They could go to a few parks that she knew well but they could also go toward the shopping mall. At least there's a roof there but probably crowded as well.
"We could, erm... There's a nice park not too far from here." The girl with purple hair said before putting back her cellphone into her jacket. "We could you know, walk and talk? That's what people do on first dates right?" Yori adjusted her long scarf and then rubbed her hands together. "Unless you are hungry? I mean, I'm not against eating food... Just not this one?" She said pointing a the fancy restaurant next to them. And then, Reiko showed her the jacket she was wearing. Yori already had a jacket but it was a nice move from her date. She hesitated for a moment before smiling and nodding. She took it and placed it on her shoulders. "Thank you, Reiko." She said with rosy cheeks. "Don't hesitate if you get cold though. Don't want for you to get sick tonight."
After taking one last glance at the restaurant, Yori then gave Reiko her full attention. "So, let's go to the park?" There was a shy smile on her face but a genuine one. She then looked at Reiko's hands and moved hers toward them. She was about to hold hands but didn't fully commit to it not knowing if it was too soon for them to hold hands. "Erm, oh right, park, this way." And with that, their date has officially begun. Her plan would be to just walk until they get either bored or cold or the two and then maybe transition to the shipping mall.
"So... What do you do for a living?" She would ask while walking. "I've just finished high school and erm, just not sure where to go next?" She tried to not sound too pathetic but felt that she should say the truth about her current situation. "I mean, ever since I went to the Digital World..." She then stopped herself. A part of her brain knew that Reiko most likely knew about Digimon as well seeing that they both used the Tamernet but the other part was questioning if they could openly talk about it. "You did go to the Digital world before... Right?" Her voice got lower and almost to a whisper with this question. She held on to her breathing for a second hoping that she didn't say something that would make the date very awkward and they just began it.

So she wanted to go to a park? It wasn't exactly out of the cold, but she supposed it was a romantic enough place. Probably a bunch of other couples there, too. So Reiko would have an idea what to do if he wasn't sure what to do. Still, this girl had some seriously rosy cheeks. Did she always have them there and Reiko just hadn't noticed them yet? Well... it probably wasn't because of anything important. "Sure. Let's go."
Reiko nodded along when she spoke. It would be weird to go on a date with a stranger and not talk at all. Well... in this set of circumstances, at least. But Reiko wasn't particularly hungry, so she just shrugged as she turned her back to the restaurant. Reiko had been in one or two dates like that previously back in Cali. Her offer of her jacket was accepted, and Reiko nodded. "Don't worry. I don't want to get sick, either."
Yori's attempt to grasp hands with her date went completely unnoticed by the oblivious Reiko, however. And her hesitation was finalized when Reiko stuck her fingertips in her pockets. Stupid trendy jeans, and their lack of pocket space. Next time she was going out in a pair of men's jeans, date or no date.
Yori brought up the subject of careers, and that was an easy enough question. The question Reiko had been thinking of was "Your mother shows up on your doorstep with a dead body. Do you call the police or help her bury the body?" So... this one was probably a bit more appropriate. "I'm an actor," She answered. "Small television bits, mostly. I've been in some shows in the west, too. I grew up in L.A."
Yori talked about her goals, or rather, lack thereof. Which was fine. It's not like Reiko had goals of her own. She was just doing what she always did. Though she did talk about that other world. "Yeah, I've been there before. My cats took me there. For a little bit. Met a wizard and a lion man and their son. They were pretty chill." She probably could have done a better job explaining that whole situation, admittedly.

Yori wasn't looking at where she was going as she was pretty focused on her date. She did however made careful steps toward the park. She has been there a few times so she knew how to get there quickly but she didn't pick that route. Instead, she took a more scenic path to it while listening to Reiko telling her that she is an actress. She began wondering what it would be to act for a living, probably too much pressure for the girl with purple hair though. She was used to smiling and all that but she certainly can't cry on command or show any other kind of emotion. Yori doesn't really watch television so she didn't have a clue if she saw Reiko acting before. Probably not. Nodding at when she said that she came from L.A, the young adult titled her head to one side. "I've never been outside Japan." She admitted. "Not even sure if I can point where erm, L.A. is on a map." All she really knew is that it's somewhere in the United States. "Do you like being here?"
And then Reiko told Yori that she got to the Digital world because her cats took her there. She blinked a few times before opening her mouth but didn't say anything at first. She wasn't sure if she was making a joke or really went there with her cats. She was about to say something when Reiko said that she met a wizard and a lion-man and their son. The Digital world was a very strange world so that did sound kind of plausible. Strange but still, not unlikely. After a few minutes of walking, they finally made it to the park. The snow was still falling slowly but it was actually pretty to be fair.
"So, erm." Yori began speaking softly at first. "Have you ever been on a date with an erm, woman?" She asked as her eyes looked at Reiko's. "I mean, I've never dated anyone before..." Again her cheeks were quite pink right now. She looked at her feet for a moment before going back to looking at the girl next to her. "I've never been much of an erm, dating person I guess? I mean, I'm wasn't that popular with boys or girls, in school. In fact, I wasn't popular at all I guess..."
After saying that, she quickly shook her head and went back to smiling mode and laughed a bit at herself. "Sorry for rambling." She then said. "How about you? Was school any different where you grew up?" Yori wasn't sure if Reiko had school in the States or in Japan but figured that she would tell her by answering that question. She also had no real clue on how old her date was but she certainly looked like she finished high school.

Reiko simply followed Yori along as they walked. She had no idea whether they were taking the scenic route or not because quite simply, she wasn't too familiar with the area, or Shibuya in general. But Yori seemed to know where she was going, so it all seemed alright. "Honestly, I couldn't pick out a bunch of provinces if you brought me a map of Japan, so I can't blame you. And the only reason I'm in Japan is because my mom was from here. I think traveling can be overrated, personally. It can be a big hassle." Not to mention the hassle of going to that other world, where nothing seemed to make sense sometimes.
Yori asked whether Reiko had dated any girls before. She shrugged and nodded. "Mostly dated guys. But I did date one girl in high school. She had... less-than open-minded folks, though, so was only doing it to be rebellious, and... it wasn't meant to last. We still stayed friends, though I haven't really kept in touch with her after moving here." Yori spoke up a bit more, then apologized for rambling. She wasn't really talking too much, though. Weren't you supposed to talk about yourself during a date?
"Never went out of my way to date anyone, honestly, but if someone asked me out I'd say yes. So I've been on a few. Mostly guys who were in high school, though. Who only have a couple of things on their mind. So it wasn't really meaningful or anything." Technically, she never finished high school, though, so she never got the complete experience. "And school was... the same, I guess. Well, all I really know about school in Japan is when I audition to play a student. Never put on a uniform until I was over twenty. Kind of weird, I guess..."

Yori nodded a few times as Reiko told her that she wasn't better than herself in geography. Unlike the older lady, Yori actually thought that travelling the world might be fun. Not that she would survive on her own but still, could be fun. Maybe in a few dozen years, if she can stay alive for that long. Her mind began to wander between which country she would like to visit and where to go next in this park. After listening to Reiko about her previous relationship experiences, Yori felt kind of silly having nothing to tell her about her current situation. Nonetheless, it was still interesting that she didn't seem to mind at all that they were two girls dating. As Reiko talked about not keeping in touch with her ex, she realized that she too didn't keep in touch with well, most of her high school friends to be honest.
After walking for a bit, the girl with purple hair spotted a set of swings and a bench. Looking at both of them, Yori smiled and leaned a bit toward Reiko. "Which one do you prefer?" She asked while pointing to the bench in then the set of swings. The bench would be safer but swings can be more amusing. Although, she was in a dress so she would have to be careful but then who is going to peek on them anyway, right? If Reiko would not mind either, she would go toward the set of swings. It has been a long while since she wanted to play around in this park. Most of the time she would be just there drawing or just idling around. Today, she was going to have some fun though!
"I never really questioned myself having to wear a uniform at school. I thought that all schools were like that. It made it easier to pick what to wear but yeah, I'm also happy I'm not in school anymore..." She then paused to gather her thoughts. "Although, I guess I should look for a college someday..." To be fair, she never even thought that she would survive high school so thinking of going for higher education was way low on her to-do list. "So... you said that you dated a girl once... How it is? I mean, like how was erm, kissing?" She then asked with a shy smile and pink cheeks. "I mean, kissing in general. I'm not an expert at that erm, yeah kissing..." In fact, she never did kiss anyone ever in her life. She would say that it's disgusting with people kissing with their tongue but as she got older, it did look like, erm adventurous?
After a second, she quickly shook her head and spoke in a higher pitch voice. "Oh! I not saying that I want to have a kiss!" She realized that asking about how a kiss feels like, she was kind of asking Reiko for now. Which she didn't want to do right now, but she was still curious. Maybe at the end of the date, if they get that far into the date. Her cheeks went from pink to red as she tried to hide them by looking at her feet. "Oh, I'm so sorry." She apologized. "I hope that didn't make you erm, not wanting to continue our date?" Yori made a kind of a funny face of both being scared and embarrassed at the same time.

Yori was fairly silent after Reiko told her about her previous relationships. Well... Reiko heard once or twice that you weren't supposed to talk about previous relationships on a first date, but... she's the one who asked, after all! Well... Yori didn't seem to mind after all. Though Reiko silently wondered if Yori would leave with her jacket if Reiko said something to piss her off. It wasn't really expensive or anything, but... it was her only denim jacket.
Yori guided them to a choice of swings or a bench to sit down on. The bench was probably cold... and the swing would probably get warmer because if moved or something... right? She wasn't quite sure how that worked or whatever, but a butt in motion would warm seats better, she supposed. Reiko pointed to the swings, and Yori seemed to approve. Alright, +5 affinity or whatever gained! Reiko never really spent a lot of time in playgrounds growing up, though. She was too busy getting into trouble, really. And when you bounced around between foster homes, making friends could get troublesome.
Yori would talk about her school life and... lack of plans after school. She seemed kind of awkward or something. Did she get picked on a bunch because of it? Well... nothing Reiko could really do about that, so she shrugged. "Maybe. Depends on what you wanna do. Going to college without a goal in mind is probably a huge waste of time and money... so I hear. I never went, so I'm probably not the best judge."
And then Reiko raised an eyebrow when Yori brought up the concept of... kissing? "Ah, well, my first kiss was in the sixth grade. It was my first boyfriend I was his first girlfriend and we were excited about being a couple. And we figured that kissing is just what couples did, so we tried it," She ran her finger across her lip. There wasn't a trace of a scar anymore but her cheeks were flushed from the memory. "I went for a closed-lip kiss and he tried with his mouth open, and his teeth cut my lip. So my first kiss was... bloody?" She shrugged, figuring that was the answer she probably didn't want to hear. Still, Yori seemed more than embarrassed, but Reiko just shook her head. It was fine, right? "But by the time I dated... my female friend... I had more experience. She did too. And kissing a girl's pretty much the same. Watch out for bad breath, don't let your partner eat a lot of garlic, and just go slow so you don't accidentally headbutt them."
It was probably obvious by now, but... Reiko wasn't really the romantic type.

Yori was slowly moving a bit on the swings but was mostly just sitting there. To be fair, she was getting a bit cold around the legs but didn't want to move too much. She was regretting wearing a dress right now but it was her fault that she didn't bring money with her so that they could be inside where it's warm. In any case, she wasn't going to let that ruin their one date. Reiko's advice of colleges seems logical, higher education isn't cheap especially if she just there to waste time. It would be something to muse on but not today.
The girl with purple hair couldn't help but giggle at Reiko's tale of her first kiss. Poor her, that might have made her hate kissing. Yori didn't even think that this could happen but then, all she saw was movies and it's always a perfect kiss if there's any kind of perfection in the art of kissing. The younger lady nodded with a smile as Reiko told her about her first kiss with her female friend. At least it sounded like it was way better than the one with her first boyfriend. Yori began wondering what her first kiss would be like, and also with who she would share it. Looking at her feet for a second before slowly moving her attention to Reiko's feet. The thought of them kissing did come to mind but she was way too shy to ask or start the kissing process.
Anyway, she still felt that that might be best left for the end of the date. Right now, they had to get to know each other a bit more. Yori took a second to think about what she could ask next seeing that Reiko didn't seem to mind her questions at all. "What do you think of pets?" She asked while playing with her hair. "I think you said you have cats?" the younger girl wasn't so sure about this as she has a terrible memory. "I mean, I know that I will never be able to keep a pet alive for more than two weeks, Thankfully, Shiro, my Digimon partner, is not a pet so that's good I guess." She then paused to gather her thoughts. "I guess maybe I could have a low-maintenance pet... Or a pet rock." That last part was half a joke, half a truth. "I wonder if Digimon thinks of us as a pet... I mean, actually, I don't know."
"Speaking of Digimon, I wonder what do they do when we are not around. Shiro told me that some go with their partners in both worlds but I can't imagine having him around me in our world. He's quite big. Yori then giggled once more. "I do wish I had a friend like him around here as well." She admitted with a smile. "Sorry, am I rambling?" The girl then asked not noticing that she was talking all that time. "It feels good to talk about them with someone else too."
"How about you?" Yori then asked while looking at Reiko's eyes. "What do you think about the Digital world?"

Even though she looked like she wanted to be on them, Yori looked like she was uncomfortable on the swings for some reason. Well... it wasn't exactly like Reiko could exactly Yori her pants or something. Not a whole lot she could do in that regard, sadly.
And when Yori began looking around bashfully after Reiko spoke about her kissing career... she had a feeling what was on her mind. But Reiko decided to play dumb for a bit. Kissing some starry-eyed girl after just meeting her probably wasn't the best idea. Reiko wasn't exactly planning on getting to first base... especially when the National Anthem hadn't even started playing yet.
Thankfully, Yori managed to change the subject! "Oh, pets? I... guess? I've got two cats. Snowflake is every bit the cat's cat, and she's a little mean, but harmless enough. And Pepper likes to clean up after me when I can't be bothered to do it. My apartment's gotten a lot cleaner ever since they showed up..." Then she realized something. "Oh, they're my Digimon, by the way, not actual pets. Which is good, because cat food is expensive..."
And then Yori got to discussing partners. "Snowflake likes to kill the rodents around my apartment. So she's actually helped make things cleaner. Oh, but there haven't been as many birds around lately, though. And sometimes there's a bunch of dead rats at my doorstep. And Pepper... she probably... reads books... or something." Come to think of it, what did Pepper do all day? It's not like Reiko had cable or anything! Did she just surf the internet all day? Reiko should check her browser history when she got home just in case. She can't imagine an alien cat creature knowing much about internet security.
And as for her thoughts on the Digital World? "It's alright. I haven't explored it much. I'll probably get around to it... eventually." Truly, the words of a great adventurer.

Yori first thought that Reiko was really talking about her pets when she mentioned Snowflake and Pepper. And then she said that one of them cleans up after her which got her pretty confused. Fortunately, she did clarify that she was talking about her Digimon partners which made much more sense for Yori. The girl with purple hair nodded a few times and then smiled. It did seem that maybe having Shiro around in this world could be fun but then, he's way too big to fit in the door. Perhaps he could look like a cat as well. That thought made the girl laugh a bit.
As for going to the Digital World, Reiko didn't seem to have much of an opinion about it. Which was fine, to be honest. It could well be brand new for her as well. Yori then looked at the sky once more. Too bad that the snows were hiding the stars above. After a moment, the younger girl nodded to herself. "You know what? How about we do grab something to eat?" She then suggested. "Nothing fancy but we could go to the mall and find some greasy food." She wasn't the girl to go for fast food very often but this was a special night anyway. "What do you think?" She then asked. "Unless you prefer to eat something else, I'm good with that."
Yoru didn't tell her that she had no money on her but she could always repay her if that date goes well. It not like she was going to go for the most expensive meal neither. Just something like a burger maybe. The girl did a small hop to get off the swings and then wiped the snow from her dress before rubbing her hands together. "Shall we?" Yori asked as she extended her hand toward her date. For some reason, she felt much more comfortable now so maybe holding hands would be fine for Reiko as well.

Reiko looked up at the sky during their brief period of silence. She didn't really lament the lack of a starry sky, though. She could view the stars at any time of the year if she wanted to. But tonight she got to watch the snow fall. Reiko didn't exactly consider herself the romantic type, but that was special and stuff, right?
Hmm... Yori wanted to get some fast food. Greasy, messy fast food. Which wasn't really Reiko's ideal first date meal. Aside from the fact that it was greasy junk food, Reiko wasn't exactly known for being an... inoffensive eater. And she'd rather not make a huge mess in front of her date. Wasn't great for a first impression!
